MOTD2 – Can you believe that we will be the 4th game on. Typical Spurs biased BBC……..

Leedsgunner

Professional performance, goals from two different players – good for team morale. Arsenal effectively shielding Lacazette through his dry patch until he could find the net again. My hope is that Laca will repay his teammates by finding the net against Liverpool on Wednesday. Personally I’m not looking past Wednesday. A draw would be great, a win at home would be immense. Odegaard was fantastic and Ramsdale was good except for a couple of moments. In my opinion, I would play ESR on Wednesday and rest Martinelli, although he was full of running, I thought he sort of tried to… Read more »

I’m enjoying the ride and literally taking it a game at a time.

I’ll probably get hammered but having watched the highlights for Watford on MOTD 2 I have to confess to a liking to their strikers, I can see both Dennis and Hernandez fit into our team. That boy Hernandez is an excellent poacher and he knows how to finish… and that’s who we need a finisher. If Watford goes down, I would love us to submit a cheeky £10m bid and see if we can fit in Cucho Hernandez into our system… considering he’s only 22. Yes he isn’t a huge star but that means he won’t come in and have… Read more »

Agree regarding the Watford front three. They would only have to move next door! Dennis was excellent!

Leedsgunner

*hammered for this…

Emiratesstroller

Was at the game.

The team performance was excellent and both Partey and Odegaard in midfield now look like a class act.

There is of course still room for improvement. We need still a replacement for Xhaka and of course a goalscoring Striker next season.

However, I am growing increasingly confident that we will finish in the top four. If we qualify
for Champions League and the owners provide requisite budget I feel sure that we will have
the makings of a highly competitive team.

I’m enjoying the ride and literally taking it a game at a time.

Literally as opposed to figuratively?

Great win for tets and the boys! Ode is a beast. Partey is really showing some class. Great goal and he’s getting bloody close to one of those screamers. The defence, even with Cedric, was calm and collected majority of the game. A few little stutters but nothing major. Xhaka nothing special but solid, he even made a run through the middle and just couldn’t pick his spot from distance. Good to see ESR back and healthy. Saka is just an absolute menace. Martinelli sometimes a little too direct but it was not a bad day at the office at… Read more »

As was mentioned here during the game and I’ve said previously: Xhaka is only fit for the bench with this emerging team. He gets in the way and holds up quick attack attempts further. With this team minus Xhaka & Cedric we can take points from L’pool. Whether Arteta sees it that way is a different matter. Probably not. Anyway, great win with some scintillating football and Ode becoming settled and will become a legend for us going forward much to the chagrin of the Ode naysayers here. He was my MOM yesterday. Pool game if Tommi still out as… Read more »

Some things to keep in mind. Arteta chose Ramsdale. Everyone laughed. Arteta chose White. Everyone complained. Arteta chose Gabriel. Arteta chose Ødegaard. Some doubted. Arteta chose Partey. I doubted. Arteta chose Tomiyasu. Arteta hired the set piece coach. Our young and homegrown players are improving in all phases of the game under him too. All track back, press, make intelligent, controlled runs. Pep style. Time to give a little credit to the man’s judgement of talent and how he can make it work within the team. Another reason to be excited about the summer recruitment, especially if we’re in the… Read more »

Alright! I’m back… thanks Pedro. Keep getting binned for whatever reason. Throughly enjoying this team. So much coming together for this young team but Ode-a-God, as I call him is really on some form right now.. It’s rare to see such talent at such a young age who is also an immense leader. Great time to be a fan! Leeds- I never got a chance to reply to your comment before I was binned but I appreciate your welcome the other day. Been reading Le Grove ( fantastic job btw Pedro) and the comments religiously for 3 or so years… Read more »

Hats off to Arteta. Of course he’s made mistakes as you would expect with a new manager. But he’s got a hell of a lot more RIGHT than wrong.

Great job Mikel, let’s get top 4. Then we’ll be able to attract the next level of players.

New top quality ST.
Replace Xhaka.
Replace Cedric.
Replace Pepe.
Replace Leno.
Replace Elneny.
Integrate Saliba.

Gonsterous

I really hope we get more signings like tomiyasu. No one flashy or with a big name. Instead, someone who comes in and wants to prove he is world class and gives us 100% on the pitch in every game.

TallestTiz

WTF is wrong with Lokonga?
As poor as Xhaka is, Lokonga can’t displace him?

kjelli

When you think of it; Xhaka literally never tires for the whole 90 min. He will be hard to replace, but
the more you watch Neves, he’s the perfect replacement .. and would thrive in ucl.

Gonsterous

If we make it to the CL, we will need at least another 5 top class players. With our restricted budget, there will be no place for ready made expensive players. Fingers crossed edu and arteta have identified some proper gems.

James

So nice to see so much positivity in our fan base at last. Unlike some others blogs out there where fans refuse to see progress. Some people still think Arteta is the same manager he was when he joined us just 2 years ago. I personally feel he’s grown alot, don’t get me wrong there’s still some growing to do but that comes with experience. It so refreshing to hear the players talking so positively about him too, that can only be good sign for the future. The only disappointing part of the day for me was Newcastle couldn’t eek… Read more »

I think Arteta sees Sambi more as a 6 than an 8. He might be considered an alternative to Partey. And Arteta does take time to introduce younger players. Martinelli had to sit on the bench for over 6 months. I think Arteta likes that Xhaka is just progressing the ball for now. He will want somebody better in the summer though.

Pierre

Yesterday was the first time i saw a real on field relationship developing between Odegaard and Partey., i hope this continues to develop . What this allows us is to play football in the centre of the pitch , something we have seen very rarely under Arteta. This opens up so many possibilities for the way we can attack teams . Previously we were too predictable , everything out wide, usually ending with a cross into the box. What we are now seeing is inticate passing through the centre of the pitch and in and around the box, better movement,… Read more »

Hi Grovers I’m Junior – Tony is my dad. Now before anyone gives me a hard time please remember you have only had my dad posting for about 6 years, I’m 13 – do the maths and spare a thought for me. I was watching the game with my old man yesterday and I noticed how poor Cedric Xhaka and Laca was. Cedric is poor defending and little better helping Saka or who has moved onto our RW. Xhaka was so slow my grandma @77 can probably run past him. Laca’s main highlight was the penalty and should be replaced… Read more »

James -agreed. Arteta is young as a coach and just like young players he has to progress. The mistakes he has made he will and is learning from

I also think managers get to a point later in life where they no longer have the energy to put in a real shift

Look at Wenger last 10 years, GG at Spurs, maybe Mourinho now

DivineSherlock

Tielemans or Neves would be my guess on replacing Xhaka . My personal choice is still James Ward-Prowse . Even Stuart Armstrong, if you have seen him ,is really good , no fancy names but PL ready and good squad options to rotate. I doubt we go for someone outside the league like Fabian Ruiz , maybe we should put a cheeky bid for Camavinga who knows maybe Madrid gives us another gem .

Pierre

In reality , the position we are in now is the position that Wenger was abused for by le grove and the WOBS. Personally i see many similarities in the way Arteta is giving the players the confidence to express themselves on the ball, something he had been criticised for , and rightly so, in the last 2 / 3 years. Our position appears better due to the fact we have had a couple of 8th place finishes, though of course Wenger maintained a top 4 position whilst qualifying for the champions league places 18 years on the Wenger didn’t… Read more »

shaun

it’s Partey time , put your money on Partey for a 30 yard thunderbolt against liverpool

shaun

I would go cheap in the summer and get value if Laca stays bring in Dennis from Watford and Ward Prouse from the saints

Gonsterous

Pierre

Yah Wenger was in this position but failed to get to the next level. Its why he was fired. If arteta fails to get to the next level, he will face the same consequences too.

Arteta is doing well and I hope he continues to do well because we can’t afford another rebuild with a new manager.

Samesong

Love Pierre way of getting people reeled in lool

Wednesday be a big game. Think the game will be closer than expected. I must say even though we may lose this. those games narrowly lost to the big boys are the most frustrating than getting battered.

Here;s hoping to three points.Or at least a draw.

Pierre

I’ll give Arteta his due , he is willing to put his head on the line when making big decisions about players leaving. To let Aubamayang leave in january without a replacement could have blown up in his face, and i suppose it still could if things take a downturn in our results and also Aubamayang continues to score at a goal a game or thereabouts… Champions league is the holy grail for Arsenal this season , anything else now will be a disaster for the club as there is no guarantee that we will be in such a good… Read more »

Ward prowse is a good shout. But he is 27. We need someone under 25 that can come in to his prime when the likes of Saka and Martinelli are going up a level in two years time. Tielemans is my choice, just by virtue of having an incisive passing ability better than a lot of CMs that we can get. He could play that Xhaka role in a 433 much better. And we would have another passing threat from there besides Odegaard. What he lacks a bit is defensive nous. But we would be an offensive juggernaut for most… Read more »

Gonsterous “Arteta is doing well and I hope he continues to do well because we can’t afford another rebuild with a new manager.” This is true, though Arteta will be given at least another 2 seasons to try and finish what he’s started. Shame that Arteta didn’t decide on the youth process when he first arrived as the first 18 months were wasted on going down the experience route.. Willian , Aubamayang ( new contract) , cedric, Mari and Xhaka(new contract) have proved to be poor decisions that took the club close to the relegation places at Christmas 2020. Let’s… Read more »

Lots of football to be played still and keeping key players injury free is vital. There is no break away team from 4-6th at the moment.
