WHY HAVEN’T WE CANCELLED SALIBA LOAN? + INBOUND DEALS GOING TO THE WIRE

by .

OH MY WORD CAN SOMEONE STOP THE LEAKAGE.

You spend 10 years saying off-the-cuff things like, ARSENAL SHOULD JUST BIN THE DEADWOOD, then someone gets the keys to Arsenal and just does it, and it is TERRIFYING.

Edu has lost his damn mind this month, he’s handing out P45s like the club is going into liquidation.

Cal Chambers was sent packing to Aston Villa. No rumours, no ITK links, just BOOM, see yah later Cal.

There was talk that we let him go for nothing, but apparently, that’s not true, we landed a fee for him and obviously, they are paying his wages. He’s a top human, everyone likes him, but he never clicked at Arsenal. Mad to think he’s 27. He’ll forever be 22 in my mind.

This morning, there’s talk that Eddie is going to Newcastle. This is a crafty move from him. The player is looking for £90k a week. Arsenal were probably squirming at the number because it’d make him hard to sell if he didn’t improve… Newcastle won’t give a shit. They need goals, they are the richest club in the world, Eddie could be the difference between relegation and staying up.

You do have to say it’s a weird move for him outside money. He hasn’t been able to make an impact in our side, how is he going to deal with Mbappe in a couple of seasons?

Who cares, if there’s a fee, we’re laughing.

Well, laughing until you look at the state of our squad.

Now, you can’t call Arsenal a circus. You can’t call this window shambolic. The club cannot be accused of anything incompetence… until we see where we land.

As it stands, we’re moving on players that don’t play. They are bodies, sure, but don’t confuse the situation… not one of the players moving on is good enough or fits the system.

Ainsley is a body, not the difference between a win and a loss against Liverpool.

Eddie blew his chance and cost us points at Everton and the next round in the FA Cup missing 6-yard opportunities.

Cal Chambers just isn’t at the level we need. Ben White gets the nod ahead of him at right-back and he’s not good enough at centre back.

We have shifted on bench security, not players that could help in the run for top 4.

That said, we are very, very thin right now.

I’m struggling to see where the internal promotions come from. Bierith, Patino, Hutchinson, and Salah all look like fantastic talents, but it’s a huge ask to expect them to deliver right now. Rekik has never played in the Premier League.

Matteo G is no-go because of his previous with the coaching staff and backroom team in general.

William Saliba should absolutely, 110%, without doubt, be recalled this instant. We spent £28m on him, he’s been in 8 Ligue 1 team of the weeks, he absolutely fits our system, and we need him. I don’t give a shit if he plays 5 games, he is a better option off the bench than Rob Holding right now.

… but if Marseille made sure he was there all season, then we are screwed. If we’re screwed, that feels like a lack of foresight from the club.

How much business can we do in three days?

How far along are we with deals?

What is the plan?

We are playing a very high-risk game right now. I don’t disagree with any of the exits, but I think I speak for everyone: If we don’t sign anyone, we have done some damage to our chances this season. Even psychologically you have to wonder what the players are thinking right now.

Still, there has always been action with Edu. There has always been a plan with Arteta. The two of them haven’t ever exited a window without the goods. Even if the goods are not that good.

… and remember, Mikel Arteta is extremely ambitious. He wants to win the Champions League with Arsenal. He wants to manage at the highest level. I’m not sure he flew out to America to tell Stan to bin half the squad to save pennies.

We have to trust the process right now. Put the THIS IS RIDICULOUS tweets in draft mode. Save the doom for 4 days time. The players are on holiday right now, we have 2 weeks until our next game, there’s plenty of time to do deals.

… I am calm. Honestly. Totally ok and stuff.

Right, before we go, let’s talk about Spurs. Look at this tweet.

That’s why you don’t hire Conte. He’s not a team player. Imagine spending £15m a year on a manager and having to worry he’ll throw a hissy fit if he doesn’t get exactly what he wants. He’s only worried about himself. What a child. I mean, I like it, but more fool Daniel Levy for signing a manager that basically laughed off Spurs in the summer.

It’s also amusing that some of the fan base spent last season saying, ‘if Arteta is so generational, why does he need to recruit to make Arsenal work?’ Conte is literally one of the greats of a generation and he is threatening to walk if he doesn’t get some players.

Honestly, I couldn’t think of a worse combination in football than Daniel Levy and Anotonio Conte. MAD that they hired a chequebook man child.

Right, see you in the comments.

Poor Fiorentina supporters have lived that dreamare, w Chiesa, Bernardeschi, Chiellini, Melo but have to think Vlaha up there with Baggio on the pain spectrum.

WengerEagle

Are Juve a bitter rival of Fiorentina? Genuinely do not know but seems odds considering how little success Fiorentina have had and it’s not a local one like Torino.

WengerEagle

Grant every Italian club hates Juve.

Kroenkephobe

Time for some gloating. Having been at Highbury some time in the 90s on NY Eve to see dear old Johnny Jensen score his first (and only?) goal in a terrible 1-3 setback against QP ha ha ha, I might also be one of the few amongst us that saw Saliba play for Arsenal. I was at home channel surfing on a hot summer’s day one weekday afternoon a couple of years ago and came across that friendly against MK Don’s and saw Saliba play. A rarity. I’m blessed…

Kroenkephobe

Free Willy…. Saliba

Chika

Saliba saying he got a “good slap” could also imply a reality check, contrary to how he expected to stroll into the team.

MidwestGun

Sal- I’d say it is up there with one of the biggest dick moves of all times. Makes Rvp look like an angel in comparison.

WengerEagle

”Watching some of the reels of Saliba. I can’t help but feel he can do everything for which we spent £50M on White.”

Dare I say it once again, maybe wasn’t the smartest move to send Saliba on loan again and Mavro off to Stuttgart for the loose change in Minislat’s pockets and spunk £50m on White when we literally do not have a midfield.

WengerEagle

Bernadeschi is terrible Sal, Juve did them a huge solid there.

Chiesa not so much.

MidwestGun

Eagle- well he is getting death threats and needs a police escort from all the angry Fiorentina fans so that’s pretty bitter.. I’d say.

Double Double

Mb
Totally agree, definitely the model we’re heading for and maybe just have to patient with any drop off, while they try and close between academy and 1st team

Looking back thru that lens sure but at moment not really.

Like I said Baggio the real stinger, left entering his peak.

Good to see you, Kroenkephobe.

What Arteta/Edu have done this Jan window is simple and straightforward: they have ‘raised the bar’. Formerly it was a ‘get rid of the uncommitted’, ‘the old and past it’, the ‘trouble-makers’ etc…. This window it’s about shedding players who don’t or can’t meet the highest standard of excellence. Something that we have all hoped for. No matter how good a manager is, personnel counts most of all. But a risky business. and more so, if you don’t have millions to back your fancy. Nobody pretends that everything has gone according to plan – least of all Edu/Arteta. It seems… Read more »

Fiorentina fans are weird lol, imagine threatening a 22 year old Serbian lad that has no prior allegiance to your club than 3 odd years with death threats because he wants to better his career? He’s not the first and he won’t be the last to join Juventus from a smaller Italian club.

Large masses of football fans are complete morons.

Double Double

Terra,
Agreed, but like Mb I think they’ll have a settled, literally, 1st team and any shortfalls will have to be made up by academy. Never going to sign 10 players, might get 1or 2 premium additions and then I think that’s it, sink or swim! Might see a couple of prospects really step up

WengerEagle

Sal

I hope that Batistuta is treated like Jesus in that city is all I can say. Football fans are so entitled and will not show players an ounce of loyalty once their form dips/they ruin themselves with an injury.

It’s a cruel business and clubs will not hesitate to dump non-performing players with fans also backing these calls so why are players especially foreign ones with no ties to clubs expected to show loyalty?

WengerEagle

Even Batigol had to leave Fiorentina high and dry to win that Scudetto with Roma let’s not forget.

Generally agree with your post Pedro, but Ainsley wasn’t just “a body” He was MOTM against Norwich and Watford at home this season. As for Liverpool, you were able to see last time we encountered them that no matter who plays, we’re a class or two below them. What we’re getting ourselves into is situation where our ‘ first 11’ know that no matter how badly they played, they’ll start next match, unless they’re injured. So for a team that is supposedly flirting with 4th place, that strategy seems to show lack of an ambition. There might be argument that… Read more »

It really can be such a cruel business, you need to get yours while you can.

Cesc springs to mind returning to Barca with many a Gooner showing all kinds of poor behavior which only escalated with his next move to Chelsea.

MidwestGun

Eagle – true.. but.. it would be different I think if they were at the bottom of the League and handn’t offered him a more then reasonable offer to extend. Vlahovic is basically saying F you half way through the season after saying he wanted to finish it out with them this season to help them get into CL many many times. Now he is like nevermind. I said all that. Makes him a dick. I mean death threats as a fan always makes you a moron, regardless.

WengerEagle

Sal I didn’t begrudge Cesc the move even though that one stung more than any other move imo as Henry was 30 when he left, Cesc was only coming into his prime years and would have dominated the PL. Even then fans had a little more grounds to be disgruntled given Cesc was here since he was 16 and we basically made him the player that he was in spite of Barca who cast him off and didn’t believe in him. Vlahovic has been sustaining a shit Fiorentina side near single-handedly and has only been there a few years. He… Read more »

Middy

Yeah I mean he’s a dick for saying that but it still doesn’t warrant the ridiculous reaction from fans, he’s not Batistuta ffs he’s had 1-2 good seasons there. He’s 22, he is a kid. Fans hanging on these kid’s every word are pretty short-sighted.

Silly to expect him to turn down Juve really, they are still in the CL after all and with him will likely contend to the end for 4th.

Redbearer

Not many cult heroes these days… and that’s really shit imo…. players who stay loyal and stick it out will always get my approval…. agents these days invariably poison players minds with money over matter and my love for the game is quickly diminishing… someone needs to get a grip but it’ll never happen since the fat cats will always take advantage and fill their own pockets first.

MidwestGun

Moving within the League always makes it lot more volatile and controversial as well. Had he waited until summer or even moved to Real Marid or Bayern or somewhere like that.. doubt there would have been as much bitterness. I can see why they are angry.. Doesn’t mean you should be a moron about it. I still booed RVP when he scored against us. And I was angry Cesc went to Chelski of all places at the end. That was just wrong. My brother still gives me shit about that..

Mr Serge

So Bruno is having a medical at Newcastle we were obviously never interested or we would have made a bid

TallestTiz

Like I said some days ago
Vlahovic’s agent milked a lot from Juventus
Infact, the plan was for a free transfer with huge bonuses.

As per Fabrizio Romano

Official details of Dusan Vlahović deal from Juventus statement ⚪️⚫️ #Juve

€70m guaranteed to Fiorentina to be paid in 3 installments

€10m potential add-ons to be paid next years

€11.6m agents fees plus additional details

Vlahović will earn €7m net per season as salary.

WengerEagle

Juve are about the best that Vlahovic will end up at if we’re honest. Bayern have Lewandowski and Real Madrid have Benzema/Mbappe soon.

Juve are down in the dumps but still by FAR are the biggest and most popular club in Italy.

WengerEagle

Yep, loyalty in modern football is all but dead.

You will not be seeing any more Fergie’s/Wenger’s or De Rossi’s/Totti’s/Gerrard’s, etc.

Invincibles

The rumours and stories are all coming together now.

Apparently the “good slap” Saliba got was from Auba. He aimed for Arteta but he is so out of form he missed and hit Saliba instead. But Arteta was so incensed he froze Auba out.

MidwestGun

True… not much loyalty these days. I blame the internet.. it’s in every sport these days. Players know what opportunities are out there globally and in real time. Used to be you stuck it out with what you know or your hometown. . At least Vlahovic didn’t have a Lebron James … “the decision” like press conference.. haha I remember Cleveland fans wanting to rip up all his jersey’s as well.

Ok guess Ill check back in later see if we signed anyone yet.. not holding my breath.

Habesha Gooner

Well pur transfer window will come to a weird end. I reckon we will get the striker. It us not going to be easy to convince Lille or Real Sociedad for either David or Isak. But they will get it done. They would have to considering we are loaning out Auba and selling Eddie to Newcastle. And Everton won’t sell Calvert lewin. If those targets fail expect us to panic buy someone like Cody Gakpo or Marcus Thuram. But I don’t think we are signing a CM. None of our targets are feasible now. Neves, Luiz, Renato, Bissouma all wouldn’t… Read more »

Back to the transfer business.. I can’t help think the outs and ins aren’t linked. The outs are what we should have got done in the summer but for whatever reason we didn’t, maybe players have realised there isn’t much point, we’ve lowered asking or other clubs are just desperate. He plays further up, essentially occupies same space as Saka or in a front two alongside Ronaldo when he was at Juve. Could see Arteta deploy him as a second striker, great with ball at his feet gliding thru space in ways KDB operates.

Based on Spurs pursuit would be hilarious as well.

David.D

I think Sailba has mentally burnt his bridges with us. Sending him out on loan again was the last straw for him and he must think Arteta doesn’t rate him.
He is playing every week for Marseille.
Why on earth would he want to come and be 3rd in the pecking order behind white and Gabriel.
Huge shame we will never see him play for our first team.
He has all the attributes to be a success.
Arteta proper fucked him over.
Sailba doesn’t get treated like that with a manager of the charisma of Klopp or Wenger.

If you want a good ending to this Saliba saga, then you let him finish his loan at Marseille without drama.
With good man management, the strained relationships with Saliba can be repaired. If he gets a fair shake next season and is treated with merit, he will sign an extension.
