WEDNESDAY ROUND-UP

by .

Let’s start the post with the sad news that Ray Kennedy passed away. The midfielder started his career at Arsenal before moving on to further greatness with Liverpool. He was a bit before my time, so I can’t really pay my respects in the way some of the posters below likely will, so if you leave a comment, I’ll add some of them to the post during the day so people can understand better what he meant to the old school Gooner faithful.

Let’s lighten the mood.

Arteta doing a ‘banter’ with the freestylers? The kid looks like David Beckham and he is well impressive. Can’t believe I didn’t see this? PR brainstorm must have been fun.

‘Mikel is a bit… you know… serious. Could he do a banter?’

‘I’m not sure he does the banter’

‘What if we scripted him and let someone else do banter for him? Would the banter halo effect do the job?’

‘Genius’

Make of it what you will, but what I do think is interesting is that Arsenal Comms is finally modernising its approach to PR around the club. These content creators have massive reach, they bring in younger audiences, and they can do a job normal media simply cannot.

Back to serious with a splash of vengeance?

Someone tried to rob Garbriel Magalhaes with a baseball bat.

Gabriel didn’t give him an inch, fought back the attacker, and the little bitch fled the scene… only to be caught by DNA evidence.

Not many attackers get much change from Gabriel, amirite?

Quite scary for these footballers. They are a target. You do worry someone will get badly injured at some point.

There’s a little bit of transfer news. We’ve bid for a winger called Ianis Stoica. This from his owner.

‘I currently have [an offer of] €7.5m (£6.3m) for Ianis Stoica,’ Becali told as.ro., before confirming that it was Arsenal that had made the bid.

‘And I want €10m plus 20% [future transfer clause].’

From the 10 mins of scouting, it looks like the sort of profile that would attract interest. He does everything that Lacazette does, but with more power and speed. Mostly, these rumours are there to whip up a bit of interest, but this one seems super specific. We’ll see… something has to give in January, because our attacking options aren’t the best at the moment and there could be a few exiting the building.

It’s one day before our MASSIVE showdown against Manchester United. I’ll be back with some pregame juice.

It’s a short one today. Watch our pod-tent (geddit?). We’ll be coming at you with an ON THE WHISTLE this Thursday. HAVE A NICE DAY. x

“Ish –You’ve committed a fair amount of content this evening to Emi. He’s gone. Don’t be a Pierre.”

I’ve got a long way to catch up with your fixation with Martinez.

These posts tonight will just be a pittance in comparison to your overall overload of obssession over Martinez on here.

LoveSausage

Ishola,

Me too. With the new and improved back line I’m less worried that Richarlison will punish us. But our attack still sucks. Martinelli could terrorise their defenders but I don’t see him getting a full run.

Champagne Charlie

Ishola lecturing another poster about obsessing over a player is really quite something to behold.

Emi Martinez is a cuck who had his best opportunity to be undisputed Arsenal #1 in 9 years only to tell us to swivel and push for a move to Aston fucking Villa where he earns triple his Arsenal salary and has no competition. Embarrassing he’s mentioned with any warm regard at all.

Champagne Charlie

Only a quarter of the way in, but I’m going to have to tip my hat to Dissenter for what is fast looking like the most comical endorsements of a pair players in some time.

Romero and Saul were unashamedly heralded, and they’ve been absolutely pathetic since they arrived. Saul ‘the real class of the Atletico midfield, not Thomas Partey’ Niguez has been hauled off at half time in both of his PL appearances to date.

When it comes to players, safe money is against whatever Diss is offering up as sage advice.

Nigel Tufnel

I thought Saul was a very solid player, I don’t how know he’s fallen so hard, so fast.

Romero.. is that the anti Ben White some here were w@nking over? Using as a cudgel against Arteta?

Why is every teams acquisitions so brilliant to so many, but ours are so mistreated? Even Tottenham players? Shame on you whoever you are.

It has to be childhood trauma that causes that behaviour now.

“The Athletic understands the Premier League club offered the 22-year-old an extension to his existing contract on Tuesday, only for the striker to reject the offer on Wednesday. It is understood that there is no shortage of interest in Nketiah and his decision to leave is not motivated by finances but over a lack of first-team opportunities. Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has said that he wants to keep Nketiah at the club, but the striker has yet to feature in the Premier League this season.” WTF is Arteta talking about wanting to keep Eddie, back your nonsense up with… Read more »

It’s safe to say in hindsight we had an excellent summer My comments this summer were Ramsdale – he was expensive for a keeper and we wouldn’t have needed him if we’d just committed the #1 to emi White – incredibly expensive for a player none of us were talking about last season Tavares – happy with that business Lokonga – happy with that business Tomi – seemed pointless if we really wanted him for his ability to play CB considering we already have loads of CBs Ode – at the upper end of acceptable in terms of pricing but… Read more »

Apparently lots of chatter we’re going big on Vlahović… I’m trying to bring him in January… because if we wait until the summer, the fear is we’ll get blown out of the water.

So my question is this… any Florentina fans amongst the Grovers here? Or Serie A watchers?

Is the hype over Vlahović justified? How does he compare with Alexander Isak or Karim Adeyemi?

Leedsgunner

If you had a choice to bring only one of Vlahović, Isak or Adeyemi who would YOU choose and why?

Nigel Tufnel

Fair enough China. I’ll be honest, myself, as all of us here, didn’t know much about any of these guys. I remembered Ramsdale was an impressive shot stopper playing for bad teams and I was surprised nobody seemed to remember that part. His distribution.. — …who notices opponent keepers distribution? Nobody does. I will lay claim to the fact that I said here that the way we were bidding for Ramsdale, he was being bought to be the number 1. People did seem to see the sense in that. Basically everyone was wrong about White. Very wrong. I didn’t know,… Read more »

My days just got busy so I’ll be keeping things short for a while.

No Idea what Arteta is going to do selection wise, so I’ll say if Arteta gets the selection right and executes a sound in-game management I see us getting a score draw: 2:2.

For me no Auba or Ode (he’ll get kicked off the park) to start. Maybe subs depending how the game is going.

I’m an Ode fan but Manure will be fighting for places now RR is about to show up.

Tony

3am KO for me, so will watch around 7 when my son goes to school.

LoveSausage

Leeds, Definitely Vlahovic for me. He’s physically very strong, can play with his back to goal as well as penetrate, and he has a good shot. Everything you need from a CF in a modern 4-3-3. Isak is a great player too. Very strong dribbler. He looks like a guy who might get bullied off the ball but he’s stronger than he looks. He doesn’t score enough goals though. If want to give ESR and Saka time to grow into their roles, I’d go with a CF who can take a big responsibility for the goals. Haven’t seen enough of… Read more »

Not only does the lad in the video look a bit like Beckham he sounds like him too.

If you want to watch another arteta video, watch him with the sidemen (group of lads on YT), it’s funny and he teaches them a few drills that I have seen arsenal players perform when they post those training vids.

Got a new phone so it’s quite awkward to type, as I’m still getting used to it. Sorry if there are any typos, I won’t be correcting them

DivineSherlock

What a midweek , everyone around us dropped points in a winnable game . Massive opportunity to be in a outright top 4 spot and land a killer blow to Utd . Big performance needed at OT .

Sid

Its tight betweeen 4th and 9th, Arsenal need to show their longstuff, go in hard, stretch that gap, make the other moan in agony, pound them hard.

Pierre

Am i the onlyy one disappointed by the results last night. I was really hoping Chelsea , city and liverpool would drop points, chelsea and city scraped through. Liverpool were my pick for the title, keep salah and van djke fit and they will be a very difficult team to beat.. It’s pretty obvious that these 3 are a class above the rest but that doesn’t mean they are unbeatable, far from it. Fatigue and injuries will take their toll for the top 3 when the games come thick amd fast from February onwards, that is why it is vital… Read more »

Untd will be a different beast tonight. Players will be looking to impress the new manager. I would be more than happy to take a point. None of our strikers have any sort of form, it could be a tricky night

Sid

Arsenals season depends on how ESR ‘s fitness and to some extent Saka’s fitness, is managed.

Habesha Gooner

It will be a hard game tonight. But if we believe we can beat them then we will.

Best line up I would go with would be an Arteta favorite suited for this game. A 343 in defense and 4231 in attack formation.

Ramsdale, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Tomiyasu, Partey, Sambi, Tavarez, Saka/Martinelli, ESR, Lacazette.

I think this is the best formation to get protection and a counter attacking threat. A draw won’t be the worst result for us. Protect Tavarez with Tierney in behind him and let him run riot.

Habesha Gooner

They aren’t our rivals though. Leicester Westham and Wolves along with Brighton all drew. All of those are below us and we need to move ahead of them. Those three are in a league of their own right now. This isn’t the season we can catch them.

Terraloon

Pierre Liverpool still haven’t significantly rotated their players whereas both City and indeed Chelsea have.I read that Chelsea made 6 changes for Sunday and we’re missing several senior and probably starters when fit from both games. Chelsea are suffering injuries due to the number of games and physical demands that problem I would suggest will soon face most PL teams This series of games will seriously challenge most squads . Playing 8 games in the next 29 days will give little time to recover to plan indeed already I do wonder if Arsenal should have given the likes of ESR… Read more »

Habesha “Those three are in a league of their own right now. . This isn’t the season we can catch them.” I said they are in a class of their own, but actually this is the season we can catch them as we have no European football 2 victories sets us up for a nice run of league games untiil the new year Southampton home West ham home Leeds away Norwich away Wolves home. And that’s why these next 2 games v United and Everton are potentially season defining.. I’m not sure we are good enough as I think our… Read more »

We aren’t there yet even with a season out of Europe. We need Saliba to come back, a backup RB, a great CM to rotate, a CF, a LW and a RW to replace pepe. If ESR and Saka are injured our season crashes. And that is why we aren’t going to chase them. Liverpool are scoring a ridiculous amount of goals per game and they have a decent bench. City and Chelsea have two Starting XI players. We need more reliable players besides Saka and ESR in attack.
