Well, here we are, the unofficial first game of the season kicks off today. Leicester City take on Manchester City at Wembley in the Community Shield.
City really is the team to beat this season. Things are settled, they’ve added Jack Grealish, they’ll add Harry Kane by the end of the month. They are basically unstoppable
Leicester are recording a tricky third album. Rodgers has bottled top 4 right at the end twice now. He’s either going to take his team to the promised land of Champions League football this season or it’s just going to be his thing that Leicester will be also-rans.
I think most people are excited by Leicester recruitment because they basically buy up all the players fans like on Championship Manager. Patson Daka has been on our radar for a while, can he go some way to replacing Jamie Vardy’s output? What will Soumare do for their central midfield after a decent showing for Lille? WILL THE ARSENAL FANS LIVE TO REGRET BERTRAND?
Worth noting Leicester have sold absolutely no one for cash this window.
Arsenal news was very slow yesterday, our fearless Technical Director was once again posting pictures of himself on vacation, this time, the jetsetter was in Mallorca. I know… we’ve lived in a Covid World for the last 18 months, people can work from their phone… still isn’t a good look. Can someone not tell him to shut off his IG Stories?
The big link today is Bernado Silva. No doubt an excellent player that can do all the things we want because he’s been coached by Arteta. We’d be landing a top talent, someone that is schooled in the system, and Arteta will know his character intimately.
… but I like Maddison.
I know, I know, both would be great… but Maddison is on an upward trajectory. He’s won one FA Cup. He’ll be hungry. He’ll slip into our very English vibe. He’s 3 years younger.
BOTH would be good. I just think the statement move is Maddison
Outside that, it’s mostly quiet. Eddie has an injury that has ruled him out for a month. Partey is back in 3 weeks. Gabriel M is still out. I don’t think an injury stops Eddie moving out of the club though.
MARTINELLI WON GOLD AND CELEBRATED WITH BRUNO.
Right, not much else to talk about. We’re under a week away from the start of the season, time to kick it up a gear Edu.
As a player I like Trippier a lot and he would add a lot to Arsenal, particularly from set pieces.
If we can get him on a swap deal with Torreira or someone, then I’m all for it. I would be disappointed were we to put down hard cash for a guy in his thirties though.
Dissenter Fighting the good fight all alone . Christian Romero is the Serie A defender of the year , in the Copa America XI , played a stellar role in the final despite being injured and won it . Has played in CL . I dont like the fact that he has gone to Spurs one bit , Just like Modric . I hooe flops hard but to suggest Ben White is better than him is very very idioitic opinion.
*I hope he flops hard
Guns
Depends on the cost but Trippier as a stop gap would be better than what we have for 2 seasons.
But if he’s another Luiz type of deal financially, then forget it.
Tony
The ‘we were the 2nd best team since Xmas’ is such a transparently BS talking point, when you consider the underlying stats during that run were not that good and we were lucky, as brought out in this piece.
Tim also rightly points our shit midfield is the reason we play passive football. But apparently, improving the midfield was not the priority this summer.

Pedro Nigel Tufnell? Really? You’ve turned your alter-egotism up to 11 with that one. Who’s next? David St Hubbins as an Arteta knows best or Derek Smalls as an acid flashback crazed Shrewsbury fan? This exchange with Tom about Leicester does not reflect well on you. You understand perfectly well Tom’s point that in the here and now – a present day snapshot if you will – the Filbert’s are a better run, higher rated club than Arsenal, Spuds, Everton, Villa, Wolves, Forest etc. Unquestionable. And players who care nought for history also see that. They are motivated by money,… Read more »
pvhc As soon as we went for £50m White I knew the rest of the TW would be scrambling financially to fix the midfield. Now although we’re linked to Madders and Silva but I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up with Xhaka and a band aid player rather than what we really needed before we started the White negotiations. @China1 Sorry for not being there to lend support but ES’s comments now have to be looked through the lens of his ridiculous financial arguing yesterday and the day before on how Stan K. put money in the club. So consider the source when making an argument to someone that could have the density of a Pet Rock. ‘ So he is now following the same pattern as most other billionaires who buy football clubs.’
What is the actual evidence that Stan is now following the same approach as Roman, the Qataris or the City owners?
Because we bought white? Did he pay for white out of his own cash? Did he pay for anyone out of his own cash? Has he demonstrated a willingness to personally bankroll several expensive signings to drag us back to the top?
Until he’s done that these words are nothing more than hopeful.
For example we were told by Pedro and the media we were gonna be able to spend 150+m this summer Yet 70m in we’re hearing ‘we have to sell to buy’ and ‘one out one in’ Until Stan personally throws cash at us to fix our problems all of that talk means less than zero That we spent 50m on white doesn’t mean we’re now spending in the big leagues if as a result of this transfer we can’t outright afford to sign our other major targets, does it? Let’s see the club spend 150m net with Stan taking on… Read more »

History isn’t post 1990 or post 2004, history can be last season, or the year when city blew away the record for most points (or was that pool?) History is the last 10 years, and we have been mediocre. We can stick with the Arsenal are a big club bs or we can be realistic and say, we are losing our status as a big club and we need to change. The typical approach of other billionaires is to throw money at the clubs in order to jump start success without care for short term profits
Arsenal have spent money but haven’t shown any serious ambition in the way they’ve done it. If Stan suddenly cared about success and his ego, he’d find a way to bring us in 3 quality players for the starting 11 and stop adding around trying to save pennies on the dollar on things like sales.
I’d rather see us win the CL or PL than have every fan tell me how rich our history is.
Fking heard all of that from pool fans for the past 20 years. At least they are making strides in the right direction now.
When Chelsea and city owners came in it took them just a couple of years to produce league challenging teams
Stan has been here decades and it’s been a very slow and bland drift towards mid table. There is no evidence as yet he has become a sugar daddy owner
Well I’ve made a cock of myself.
I meant history isn’t just pre 1990 or pre 2004 not post
Stan is literally profiteering off of our history .
The only tactic left for the fanboys is muddying the waters like supreme leader did supported by his underling.
Far too many have become blinkered in terms of history and as they say can’t see the wood for the trees. It’s all well and good putting a positive spin on matters but ES like Untold hasn’t quite grasped the precarious position that Arsenal now finds itself in. Sunderland we’re a massive club where are they now? Notts Forest were a massive club what about them ? Very well said.
Stan has not only been unambitious but I believe his lack of commitment to the club- not just financially, but also in his poor recruitment and lack of engagement with his ‘asset’ – has actively held Arsenal back over the years.
As I’ve said many times before, managers and staff have to work in spite of Stan.
The man is a hinderance rather than a help.
It’s not really acceptable for arsenal football club but sadly, there’s nothing we can do about it.
MD-Gunner First the transfer window closes at the end of this month. There are over three weeks for the club to complete both its incoming and outgoing business. Second we bought three new players who despite your concerns were needed. We required a first string centre back to replace Luiz, a second string left back and also a central midfielder. I think you acknowledge that money is somehow now flowing from KSE. Most acknowledge this cash as being loans and that fact that debt is being loaded as being a concern you clearly don’t see it that way
If it is a loan then it mirrors RA operating model if it’s just , well a cash injection like City so one way or another Arsenal are now operating in the same way as one or the other of 5hses two clubs so are Arsenal now tagged as club that is financially doped ?
Arsenal set fire to approximately half a billion pounds in dross signings and wages alone in the last decade. If even half of that had been invested wisely we’d have likely competed for a couple of titles if not actually won a couple. And we managed that without being dopers. We’re just a very badly run club
Terraloon I understand corporate law as well if not better than you. I am perfectly well aware what “limited liability” means, but the reality is that Arsenal are not a twopenny halfpenny investment. The club has cost Kroenke well over billion to buy and finance. He is not walking away from his investment and letting it go bust. There’s also zero evidence that Stan won’t tire of seeing the club struggle and get deeper and deeper into debt without tangible improvements either financially or on the pitch (due to club mismanagement of finances and football left right and center) and then demand the club start balancing the books properly again but having a couple of summers where we sell off the Crown Jewels like Saka and Tierney That’s exactly how he was happy for us to run in his first 10 years here and now suddenly people think he’s become this massive benefactor plowing huge sums of free… Read more »

All loans taken out by Kroenke appear to have been relatively short term and in many cases
have been already repaid. .
You are applying constantly conspiracy theories about his debts.
For the record Arsenal’s bank balance for year ending June 2020 was still £110 million notwithstanding losses incurred.
I doubt that there are many other football clubs with such large bank balance.
If you want to see a club with serious debts take a look at the Spurs balance sheet. Their
borrowings secured by 4 charges [there were previously 17] totals almost a billion.

If I was Stan I’d be very seriously wondering why wenger was able to run off a selling club model, buying mostly cheap no namers or bargain deals for somewhat known names and for several years have the club finishing in the top 4, making a fortune and having more prestige about owning a CL playing team Now he’s seen that setting fire to all our savings and reserves on 40+m players has delivered us absolutely fuck all beyond a couple of FA cups, our position on the table has tanked with a very concerning trend, we’re losing significant revenue… Read more »

In 2020-21, the entire season was played during lockdown so it is expected that we will be losing close to £80M in match day revenue. Your antagonism to Arteta seems to be a bizarre expression of loyalty to Wenger (and Ozil). They are the past, Arteta is the future
You plucked Farke out of the bag on the basis hat he has yo-yoed Norwich back and forth and sold players at a profit. That may suit a small Club, but not Arsenal. Arteta’s aim is far higher, a return to the elite. Not a yo-yo, a permanent place.
I’m not too bothered about the accounts, kroenke does not take money out the club, all he cares about is the asset value. I have been an Arsenal Supporter since the 1950s. I had reservations about Stan Kroenke, because of his lack of emotional attachment and knowledge of football, but there is no
evidence that he is a crook or opportunist.
I detest the way that Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City are run. Man Utd have been
bought by people who leveraged the club, because they have no money. Abramovich is an
opportunist and like most Russian Oligarchs a crook and Man City are owned by a State
Enterprise which have no business investing in football.
Serge, saw a tweet from a nobody to that effect but when the Times report it you’d think there was some substance behind it.
A club as prestigious as Inter Milan losing all its big players despite winning Seria A, unbelievable.
