William Saliba has broken his silence after about 16 seconds. The French centre back has this to say on his loan move to Marseille.
“I don’t think I left for England too early. I don’t care about all that,”
“I chose OM because it is the right choice. I pushed to come here. We will see what will happen next season”
Remember when I told you players choose their loan deals? There you go. I think it’s like an employment law thing or something. Whatever, William made the decision he’d head back to France for the third time and I have to say, I think the decision is a bit meek.
If he was serious about a career in the Premier League, he’d have taken a move to Southampton or Newcastle, learned the language, acclimated to the cuisine, and developed his game. Instead, he opted to go back to a low-intensity league and deliver more of the same. Very, very odd.
The more worrying thing? Marseille, a club in dire straits financially (unless dealing with Arsenal), have made some centre back signings that might make you sweat if you are William.

They already have Duje Caleta-Car and Alvaro Gonzalez on the books, though one might leave. Saliba has jumped out of a club with severe centre back congestion, into one that will have purchased three. There were already rumours that Sampaoli told Saliba he has things to work on and that he was concerned about his experience. I really, really hope he doesn’t end up sitting on the bench for 3 months, because you can be sure he’d have landed more minutes at Newcastle, who seem very happy to play younger players.
In other news, more of a general Arsenal gripe about some of the average opinion that goes around on the internet. Namely, anything Arsenal do is a joke, anything any other club does is a spectacular show of ambition.
We’ve had it with Ben White, who was a rip off because:
- We had our pants pulled down by Brighton
- There were bargains to be had in Europe
- People didn’t know about him
Then Spurs go out and sign Romero for £5m more, a player from a slower league, with a similar rise to prominence… and no one bats and eyelid.
Yesterday, the mask really slipped. People just want to complain for exposure even if there’s no statistical grounding in what they are saying. Aston Villa signed Danny Ings, out of the blue, for £30m.

The challenge on Wesley Fofana was an absolute disgrace. I cannot believe some of the things that have gone on during preseason. To break a fellow professionals bone in any scenario is horrendous, to do it in what looked like a petulant retaliation in preseason? It’s unforgivable. Thankfully, it looks like just a break so it should be a clean recovery, regardless, this sort of action needs a punishment to match the crime.
The Arsenal transfer front doesn’t appear to have moved very far. Leicester have said no to the players we have on offer, though one would imagine our collection of centre backs might be more interesting to them now. I really hope there’s genuine intent for them to sell and that we have a deadline on this, because it’ll be messy if we don’t sign anyone.
There are a few ‘voices’ on the internet that no one has ever heard of talking about the Ramsdale deal, indicating the scouting has come from the keeping coach. Please… people have to stop believing every handle with more than 6 followers. If we’re interested in Ramsdale, it’ll be because the scouts have seen something they value for the system. Maybe it’s the passing, maybe it’s something interesting Wilder (who is an innovative coach) was doing… whatever it is, the recco won’t have come from the keeping coach. If you want further confirmation that Arsenal are doing things properly, take a read of what the agent of Ben White said.

Since the Villareal debacle didn’t move Pedro of his Arteta infatuation, even Artetas dismissal will not end Pedro’s defense of him and we can look forward to a boring lengthy past time recollection of Arteta’s great accomplishments, as others have done with Wenger even though he did produce great moments at the club. Tony, I totally agree with your long comment. It’s being painful for a while now to read Pedro’s posts and I too enjoy reading comments more than posts. Can’t wait for new season to start, with fans back we should see some #artetaout banners by the end of October, and see useless cunt down the road by the end of year hopefully. And then we should Pedro’s being him normal self by the end of next year, when all the tears will be wiped after loosing his football god.
Several clubs can’t or won’t spend. Arsenal being in London is in a strategic position financially to weather the storm. Club needs to have guts to seize the moment. Top players from Europe will be available cheaply. Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe are all available. Beneath them there are other stars available.
Arsenal should not dither on sales first. Such an opportunity may never present itself again.

When Partey and Elneny go to AFCON, we’ll be relying on Lokonga in his first season. I remember when Fabinho joined liverpool, he hardly played in his first season so he could observe and bed in. If not careful, there could be a few months when we fight relegation next season.

A gameplan is to improve the team and squad . That comes with operating a stable team backed by a solid bench and the recruitment of the right players who want to play for us.
No-one believes that “Rome is built in a day”. It takes time to build such a team and no doubt mistakes will be made along the way.

The comparison between Laca and Ings can be lost when you apply same stats between Laca and Firmino. The money was borrowed by KSE to refinance the stadium debt what that then did was release the debt reserve account which in turn released monies to buy Partey. This is not true at all. Arsenal had a debt service reserve ratio of 23M as per the covenant of earlier debt. When Arsenal refinanced the debt deal the reserve became free. This is something I talked about a few times here as to how Kroenke could free up 23M per year either through an unsecured loan from the owners or by refinancing our debt deal.
I think the only nailed on certainties next season is the top four will be at least 3 of City , United, Liverpool and Chelsea then it is open season for whoever can get their squad strengthening right and have luck with injuries. In the second tier mix I reckon we have Arsenal, Spurs, Leicester, Villa Everton, and maybe Leeds if they have bought well, whilst teams like Burnley and Wolves are always going to be potential banana skin games as might Norwich.
Okay, here’s a specific question, what formation is MA going to play this season? We know he wants to play a 4-3-3, he’s stated that. We have the players to do so, so why the 4-2-3-1? Is he risk adverse? The excuse was that our defence wasn’t secure enough for a 4-3-3, but with the addition of a £50m CB to add to our £30m CB purchased last summer and with Tierney a solid defender what is the reason for not going 4-3-3? EB – ‘common sense’ told you that £100m Grealish ‘isn’t all that’. Given that Pep obviously disagrees I might think twice before listening to it in the future.
If we do have 60-70 million to splurge on Maddison, and if we had taken the 10 million offer on xhaka, we could have potentially added an AM (Auour) at 25 million (now even his coach has said it publically he can leave) and would have had 60 million to get a CM and RB.
What would you rather take – maddion+xhaka or AM+CM+RB?

CG I am not sure what you are suggesting from last post. What I do know is that there are plenty of billionaires floating around who are dependent on valuations of their businesses in current market if they want to borrow money. Many Banks are reluctant to lend on that basis even if the business appears to be doing well. They want proper security not notional wealth.
