NEW KIT > NICER ON PEOPLE

by .

We’re heading into a weekend game with a team harder than Hibs and still things are dragging like a bag of feathers through tar.

The good news about this transfer window is there isn’t much choice when it comes to signing players. We don’t have enough quality to survive the season. We have one keeper, we don’t have a serviceable right back. We’re back to having one creative midfielder. Our midfield is still painfully limp. If the club wants to move back to the promised land, they’re going to have to start kicking things into gear.

The painful story doing the rounds in the media is it appears our interest in Martin Odegaard has not completely fizzled out. The Norwegian creative was very much the priority at the start of the summer and there is clearly still a feeling the youngster might be booted out on loan again when Carlo realises he’s not going to make the Champions League winners this season. I don’t like this sort of gamble because it shows that we’re not learning from past mistakes. We did this last season, spending all summer chasing Aouar, only to miss out, then have the least creative start to a season since 1887.

When is the cut-off point? Who are the players we’d miss out on if we wait? What are the consequences if it doesn’t happen? Do we have time to enact a back-up plan?

I cannot be hearing Arteta bemoaning the lack of time with new players… because we have known about this summer for a long time.

Waiting is a luxury a broken squad doesn’t have. We should be moving faster than this. Easy for me to say… but come on, hard not to lazily correlate Edu and his yacht parties with minimal action in the transfer window. Hungover, hating life every morning, palming off his duties to the super-agents… we’ve been here before.

Even the positives feel a bit wet. Arsenal is prepared to go all out for Locatelli… but the player wants Juventus. The back-up? Neves apparently. Like heading out to Oxford Street with your mum to buy your new sneakers in Sports Direct.

Again, all rumours, but the heavy rumours have been pretty accurate so far this window

The only thing we can truly temper these problems against is that we finished 8th. The fact we’re trying to spend big on quality players at all is pretty exciting. Romano said that Locatelli appreciates our efforts… a bit of a pat on the head, but there you go.

Finally, the new kit. I like it on people. The red is powerful, the players look good in it, I think it would be gut supportive. Not my fave, but totally acceptable.

BIG QUESTION. Why do the kits get leaked so early? Is there nothing Adidas can do about that? ESPECIALLY THE RENDERS.

Locatelli to Neves? Sexy? Hell no, but I think that’s an optimistic view.
I’d rather have Bissouma.

Dither about Odegaard, miss out on Aouar. Waste time dreaming of Maddison- end up with……Buendia. oh no, he’s gone to Villa.

Bad luck. Too much Arsenal-like dithering in the air

Real Madrid are not going to send Ødegaard on loan again. They will want hard cash currency and unfortunately Ødegaard should not be near the list of players to solve our immediate problems.

The last time Arsenal spent millions that they did not have on a slow, one footed midfield player, with problem to adjust with the pace of the EPL, the DoF got sacked and ultimately it cost the manager his job. I hope that Arsenal would not be stupid enough to repeat the mistake, anyway I would be fine with the sacking outcome.

You really wonder what the “team” who are supposed to be doing transfers both in and out of the club do for most of the year. The transfer windows do not stop teams buying players – they just can’t be registered to play. Whilst I appreciate the Euro’s were always going to slow things down I still don’t know why we didn’t have one or two lined up incoming or outgoing. We’ve got a really tough August with the season now exactly 4 weeks away. The rate we’re moving we’ll be starting with Xhaka still in the team and no… Read more »

“We have one keeper, we don’t have a serviceable right back“ Come again? Bellerin, Cedric, Chambers, and AMN are on the books. You could comfortably pick 2 of those and negotiate a season trying to crack top 4. The area for concern is midfield. We have Partey/Elneny only, with Xhaka half out the door, and Torreira crying somewhere in the corner. Lakonga isn’t moving the needle next season, he’s part of rebranding the player profile (important) and at best will be surprisingly good depth. ESR is the only playmaker at the football club. This is a huge issue coupled with… Read more »

ESR has shown some durability last season but kind of faded towards the end of the season. Came in with a bang in Jan. WE do need a CAM sharpish as a knock to ESR in the early stages screws us up pretty bad. The slowness of every TW is an indicator of how poor we are in the market.
By now, we should be finalizing deals for all targets… unless we are going for top players who were at Euros and need to start biz with them

This transfer window is slow because everyone is waiting for a first move to free up some cash. The Euros didn’t help that process. Sancho is the only big move to date that I can think of. Anyone else so far? I may be wrong but assume Edu is waiting to sell (Xhaka? Willock? Torreira? or dump Willian???) to generate the cash to buy players. Otherwise, he risks getting stuck with releasing players for free or getting very little. The Kroenke’s won’t like that, and he knows it. THAT might actually get him sacked. Have little to nothing to contribute to the political talk on here but always enjoy reading it, the views from both sides of the fence.

It’s slap bang in the middle of summer and there is literally nothing Arsenal to talk about, it amazes me that there are people that have an appetite to talk about us every single sleepy day of the window but fair play to them.

I personally always welcome the change of pace when other topics are broached on here when there is little happening.
