Lololololl… it’s preseason people, take a walk outside if you are upset over a run out in the park on July 13th. This season really is going to be a painful one if we’re dropping big tears this early on.

The negatives? No one wants to see Willian and Kola in our starting 11. Kola is gone. Bin him. Give him a free. Willian? Well, we’re stuck with him, let’s be clear, Fabrizio Romano and the ITK crowd have his exit very wrong. No one will pay his monster salary and I doubt he’s taking a pay cut… I just hope Arteta doesn’t spend 4 months realizing he’s probably a dead player.

The positives? We saw a whole bunch of debuts happen and some of the kids look pretty decent. None of them will be with the first team squad come the opening day of the season, but it’s great to see them considered. I felt for Okonkwo, he hashed up a back pass that led to an early goal, but that’s being young in a vital position… mistakes happen.

ESR looked good, Arteta said he’s 100% staying. He’s not often wrong on who is staying.

Pepe missed a penalty, but he was dangerous all game despite not scoring.

Our next game is at the weekend and we’ll have a chance to see what Stevie G is all about. More fitness in the legs, hopefully at least 11 sales, Tavares will join and we’ll get to see him for the first time. Imagine that, a good back-up left-back?!

My bigger worry is the lack of big-name signings. It feels like we might want to see Ben White as soon as possible. I think most England players will get 4 weeks off, so I’m not sure we can speed that reality up. Also, are we moving on a creative player? If it’s Maddison, make it happen. If it’s Aouar, do the damn deal. Messing around trying to save wages won’t be an excuse mid-September if we have 3 points on the board.

Glad to see that Bukayo Saka is still winning fans on the internet. I was sent this quote from Theodore Roosevelt, hated myself because I am a critic, but then thought about Bukayo.

Whatever the result or performance last night, Arteta or Arsenal would receive no credit., that is obvious. Results in pre-season games count for nothing. You can be Man C in those and start the season like Fulham.

Why the need for big-name signings? Who are we trying to impress? Ourselves? All that’s needed are the final pieces of the jigsaw. If they fit, who cares if we’ve never heard of them. Better to move on than over-pay for a ‘name’.

Pre-season is important for fitness and tactical work. 95% of which will be done on the training field to get players up to match fitness for the start of the season. As well as fitness, bleep tests etc, they will work on team play, combinations, set-pieces – that’s why it’s important.

I couldn’t care less that we lost. But my problem with it is a lot of players that played aren’t or shouldn’t be part of next season. So why are they playing. They can train with us till we get rid of them but playing them is stupid. AMN, Nketiah, Kolasinac, Willian and bellerin all played when we are about to sell them or are leaving for free. AFCF – that did make me laugh. As all us slightly older (cough) contributors well know weight management gets harder as you get older. Not that 30 is ‘old’ as such but it’s not 21 either. Laca seems to have the sort of body shape that needs a lot of hard work to keep the weight off (i.e. stocky). It also suggests that he may not age well in that regard and a contract extension would be ill advised. The result yesterday is irrelevant and the match is about fitness but that doesn’t mean fans can’t have concerns about Arteta’s approach.

Putting AMN, Nketiah and Nelson in the line up so they’re in the shop window is debatable but there is some logic behind it. Putting Kolas in? There really is no excuse.

Ultimately what this comes down to is some of us who can see clearly are seeing the exact same bullshit and mistakes being taken into the new season as what we saw last.

Soares is another what the fuck’s going on player. Signed permanently by Arteta last summer as back up when we need back he’s dropped, we’ve just signed another LB back up and are supposed to be in the market for a first choice RB when Chamber’s was being used last season.

The game was pretty meaningless yesterday.

On another day Arsenal win that match 4-2 and nothing is really said about it.

They had chances and opportunities to win by at least that scoreline and overall the team as a whole showed pretty good attacking intent throughout.

And winning 4-2 would have meant nothing as losing 2-1 meant nothing.

Ishola Arsenal it seems alongside quite a few on here haven’t grasped just how strapped for cash the majority of clubs are. It’s all well and good saying a player is worth this or worth that but unless there is a buyer then there is no value. As of now, the expected transfer fees will be consisting of £8m Tavares, £17m Lokonga and £55m White. A total of £80m.

I could imagine us selling Xhaka, Maitland-Niles and Nketiah for £12-15m each or a total of £40m. With the £40m we’ll buy Neves.

It’s reminiscent of the Summer we bought Xhaka (40m), Mustafi (37m), Perez (18m). The worst way to spend £95m.

This Summer, the way it’s shaping up imo, £80m NET spend and we’ll get White, Neves, Lokonga and Tavares. Terrible!
