TUESDAY ROUND-UP

by .

GOOD MORNING.

How are you today? Still sad? Still raging at the dickheads that ruin nice things for England?

Be all of those things, but it’s time to get things back on track. The Arsenal are about the start preseason and there’s simply loads to talk about.

William Saliba did leave to go to Marseille for his third loan back to his home country. Call me mean, but I think this is a weak move from the player. If you think you are ready for a starting spot in our back four, and you’re told you are not ready, go to a Premier League club and make a statement. Maybe the offer wasn’t there… but I suspect it probably was. What tipped it? Comfort? Or a lack of desire? We’ll find out next season. Good luck to that man.

There is VERY interesting news that Joe Willock has seduced MIkel Arteta with his outrageous run of form at the back end of the season. The coach wants to keep him as part of the Arsenal plans next season. I’m not sure about this, we’ve been here before, this is AMN all over again. If there’s £25m swimming around for him this summer, we should probably let him go. I suspect this is negotiation tactics from Edu. We don’t need to sell, but we’ll lose him if the money is right.

The Arsenal Admin is playing games with our heart. Smith Rowe is getting a new number. Will it be #8 or… #10. Really hoping he lands that #10. What a statement that will be from the club. No way he’s not signing a new deal with that sort of prestige on his back.

Question is, what would that mean for a HUGE name like Maddison? Surely that would end that idea? Would Maddison at #8? For double money, I’m sure he’d take #67. I mean, I am still struggling with the idea that Arsenal are going to find £70m for anyone this transfer window… especially with the bargains going on in Europe. But we’ll see, I didn’t expect us to move hard on Ben White this window, but that seems to be happening.

Balogun has been given the #26 this season and promoted to the first team. I’d love to see him land minutes this season, so I hope if he’s the third striker, he’s picking up time in a season slim on games. He has an edge athletically that Auba and Lacazette don’t have.. so it’s a big chance, but he really has to make his moments count next season. Stand up, be counted, make a difference.

Short and punchy one today. I am recording a Twitch Stream Podcast with Johnny a little later. Tune in at 6pm GMT, come with questions, enjoy the live vibe of it all.

I won’t be surprised if we spend a whole load of cash this summer. Kroenke knows we don’t like him, he has to apologise for the whole super league debacle, for no Europe, AND he has Spotify guy along with some Arsenal legends all breathing down his neck. It wouldn’t be surprising if he makes a statement by blowing some serious cash. I just hope it’s in the right areas and on the right names.

Mark S

Have a good day Le Grovers!

andy1886

Very mid-table.

Mark S

DM! You showed up my friend. Record is still in tack. Hope you’re having a good summer!

Chika

For years, Wenger claimed signing established players would hamper the growth of the youngsters at the club, and fans rightly berated him for it. Ironically, same fans are now opposing the need to sign a CAM this summer simply because we have ESR.

Marc

DM

Does Kroenke even know or care anyone’s pissed off? What would be a driving factor is low take up of ST’s but if that was the case we’d have pulled a deal off sooner to get those tickets sold.

andy1886

DM – I expect that Stan’s ‘remorse’ regards the ESL evaporated as soon as he realised that most people have pretty much forgotten about the while debacle already. Expect that Ben White will be our star signing this window and I’m pretty sure that we aren’t going to be addressing our midfield woes this window. Happy to be reminded of this if I’m proven wrong!

Marc

andy

All of us sceptics will be happy to be proven wrong this summer.

Chika

I also expect us to have a huge summer!

DM

I wasn’t so much making a prediction that we WILL spend big, I’m just saying I won’t be surprised if it happens. I mean, I also won’t be surprised if it doesn’t 😂

It’s very possible and even quite likely that Kroenke doesn’t particularly care that we hate him, but when you combine all the factors (especially lack of European football of any sort — that hits the club’s prestige) I just think it might be a good summer for him to think, ok let’s do something here and see if we can get everyone on board.

DM

Mark S

I was here after your 4th comment but there was no point rushing when you’d already got the trophy lol (I think the record is 73 or something so I won’t panic just yet 😜).
All good thanks mate, hope you are too.

Jim Lahey

Has there ever been a more press-resistant footballer in the premier league than Santi Cazorla?

Tee

“raptoraPosters like tee will argue anything against an opinion that calls Arteta out. He’ll come back with his English isn’t good enough next.”

The problem with you Marc is you throw jibes when cornered which is why I don’t engage a poster like you.

I asked raptora a question and he politely answered me.

Swerve for I don’t have time for a poster like you.

Keep gathering apostles to make your stale point

Marc

Tee

You will let me know when I’m cornered won’t you.

“For years, Wenger claimed signing established players would hamper the growth of the youngsters at the club, and fans rightly berated him for it. Ironically, same fans are now opposing the need to sign a CAM this summer simply because we have ESR.”

One in the last blog, was even asking why Wenger didn’t loan out cesc because of viera to butress his Saliba point.

Just have to lol when cesc is being compared to prospects like Saliba and Guen

Tee

“Has there ever been a more press-resistant footballer in the premier league than Santi Cazorla?”

I think Silva, ex man city player was also press resistant like carzola. You rushed them and get embarrassed with their quick feet and low gravity body movement

AFC Forever

Jim

“Has there ever been a more press-resistant footballer in the premier league than Santi Cazorla?””

Not that i can think of. One of the finest technical players I have ever seen. His biggest asset was the fact he was genuinely two footed. He is very much like Messi in the way he moves the ball from foot to foot at speed, proper ‘baller. The way football has changed to a positional, possession based game he would have been in his element.

Chika

Tee

“Just have to lol when cesc is being compared to prospects like Saliba and Guen.”

When pushing a daft narrative, common sense is conveniently ignored. Saliba has showed some promises, more game time in a settled squad would benefit all parties, what exactly is Guendouzi good at? lol

Tee

We need a functional CAM for the forward line to make it this coming season. Not like ESR isn’t good enough but it will be suicidal for us to totally lean on young and coming star (injury prone at that) for a whole season.

ESR needs to be managed all through the season to avoid breaking him down.

AFC Forever

Tee

“You rushed them and get embarrassed with their quick feet and low gravity body movement”

Yes. Cazorla was only 5ft 4″ same as Maradona. David Silva was around 5ft 6″, Messi, Iniesta & Xavi similar stature. No coincidence the way they moved the ball so quickly and could turn on a sixpence (for anyone who remembers those coins).

Mr Serge

ESR signing will be great news I would like to see xhaka and bellend go by the end of the week and bring in their replacements asap we need pre season to get the ideas over and whoever signed needs to quarantine

Rich

“Has there ever been a more press-resistant footballer in the premier league than Santi Cazorla?””

Certainly not at Arsenal, we’d have won the title in 2015/16, if Cazorla had stayed fit

Chika

I’m guessing Lokonga is currently isolating. Hopefully we sign two more players for the midfield.

Tee

“When pushing a daft narrative, common sense is conveniently ignored. Saliba has showed some promises, more game time in a settled squad would benefit all parties, what exactly is Guendouzi good at? lol” Which is why when one points to error in their narrative, they termed you an Arteta fan just like in the days of Wenger – akbs. The funniest of it all is the same sets are now using Wenger’s achievement (the ones they ridiculed) to make their point. Wenger making top 4 was laughed at by the media and in here but now appreciated when we are… Read more »

Chika

I’m not sure who these fans are who don’t want us to sign another attacking midfielder?

I want Odegaard, some wanted Buendia, others want Maddison, but we certainly need a quality attacking midfielder

Direct competition for places in healthy

Putting ourselves in a position where we’re 1 injury away from having no final third technician, would be gross negligence

We seen that script for the first 14 games this season, and it wasn’t pretty

Sly

Tets finished 8th with a weak talent pool and a team bereft of quality in the midfield
No quality signings on the horizon so far
What will the reaction be if he finishes 8th to 10th with the current team
We are based on talent pool a mid table team

Tee

“I’m guessing Lokonga is currently isolating. Hopefully we sign two more players for the midfield.”

Yes

According to the twitter itk, Lokonga’s deal is done and we are prepared to finalize White’s deal after agreeing personal term.

Still waiting for who we buy for the most important part of the puzzle – CAM

Chika

“Which is why when one points to error in their narrative, they termed you an Arteta fan just like in the days of Wenger – akbs..”

Or they throw insults at you and later claim it’s banter. lol

englandsbest

Really pleased Willock is back on board. He typifies energy with a capital E. Harnessed properly, he could be the driving force in midfield we lacked.

Tom

“Has there ever been a more press-resistant footballer in the premier league than Santi Cazorla?””

Aren’t we lucky then ?
We had one of the most press-resistant footballers and now we have one of the most press- resistant owners.

WengerEagle

Ozil did very well in his first 3 years here but I can’t help but wonder how Cazorla would have gone on to do full time in that CAM role that he excelled in 2012/13 for us.

12 PL goals along with 11 assists. The best single season that a midfielder has put up for us since Cesc’s 2009-10 season.

Tee

“Or they throw insults at you and later claim it’s banter. lol”

Lol.

No one in is common sense has posted here claiming Arteta flawless but which ever part of the fence one may be, one has to be sensible enough to criticize with evidence not the shallow-rooted stuffs one reads here from the same sets of posters.

Tom

WE
Getting Ozil probably extended Santi’s Arsenal career which almost ended in a tragedy anyways.

Sly

Willock doesn’t seem to offer much else other than being a driving force
Doesn’t create, doesn’t retain the ball or defend
We should sell if a good offer 20M+ comes in

Tee

“Aren’t we lucky then ?
We had one of the most press-resistant footballers and now we have one of the most press- resistant owners.”

Don’t know if the kroenkes would back the manager with funds to take us back to glory like Pedro has alluded but I knew Arsenal has entered trouble when I read he said he didn’t buy the club just to win trophies.

AFC Forever

Rich “We’d have won the title in 2015/16, if Cazorla had stayed fit” Arsene Wenger said it was the worst injury he had ever seen. He had to have a metal plate in his foot and a new Achilles made from rolled-up hamstring….!! It all started after an infection set-in when he had an operation on his ankle. “Every time they sewed me up, it split again; more liquid. They did a skin graft but they didn’t see what was inside – the bacteria eating away, eating away. They never found out which bacteria it was.” God only knows how… Read more »

I don’t know the number of years left in his contract, but I will love it if he goes back on a season long loan to conclude if his Newcastle performances were just purple patches.

Useroz

Watching a pre-season training clip and gutted to see the usual dross crowding out the place ,this time in Scotland…

Why are the like of bellerin, willian, soares, kolac, elneny still around? Or amn,, nelson etc who may not have long term future at the club?

Yet, where’s Saliba?? Hey, yes, we are asking you, the generational hypocritical sauce! Didn’t we all hear during interviews he’s supposed to be assessed during pre-season?

This is bs…

WengerEagle

Santi legit was close to getting the leg amputated IIRC.

Came back to put up 15 La Liga goals and 19 assists in two seasons for Villarreal in his mid 30s, legend.

Tee

“They never found out which bacteria it was.” God only knows how he played again!!”

Glad he is back doing his thing. Read he just won player of the season in Qatar.

WengerEagle

Tom

Yeah he lost a bit of zip after a couple of years here and was more suited to the deep-lying playmaking position.

Shame that he was nearly 28 signing for us.

Sly

Wenger knew how to build a midfield
Must have rebuilt us 6 or more times to stay relevant
Legend

Tom

If Kroenke worried his wig covered noggin with bad press the Rams would still be in St Louis.

Br0wnie

Can anyone suggest a good streaming site for today’s game?

AFC Forever

Weagle

Yes, at one stage that’s what he thought. Apparently they gave him the wrong anti-biotics, they were for another bug and not the one eating his tendon. Horrible. As you say, amazing he played again at that level. Plenty of guts for a small bloke.

Tee

Why are the like of bellerin, willian, soares, kolac, elneny still around? Or amn,, nelson etc who may not have long term future at the club?”

They are still Arsenal players till they are either sold or loaned. So, I don’t think there’s anything bad in them appearing for the preseason training.

We can’t keep moaning selling out our players cheaply them complain again because they are not ostracized from the preseason.

We will loose the remaining little coins we are expected to get from their sales.

Sly

Looks like hibs game is streaming on espn3 or fubo tv in the US

Br0wnie

Found it. Arsenal.com

Sly

If we don’t get upgrades in CAM/CM and RB I’m predicting an 8th to 10th finish
Would probably be fair too
All the other top 6 teams looking stronger

AFC Forever

“Wenger knew how to build a midfield. Must have rebuilt us 6 or more times to stay relevant”

Yes, he did. You only have to look at some of our games or a collection of goals on youtube to see how technical our players were back then. The technique and movement off the ball was unreal. We’ve been lucky to see some amazing players over the years.

Watched an Ozil Sanchez compilation yesterday, jeez they were good together.

Guns of SF

Insigne is another press resistant type. Similar build and style to Santi and Silva

quick feet, small and nimble.

Sly

No quality coach in their right sense of mind would look at the current team and say I want a piece of that

Sly

Arsenal as we know it and as a global brand with quality attacking football was all down to Wenger
He lost ground over his last 6-8 years but if we are fair he was close, real close to winning his next title having to deal with injuries to Ramsey/diaby/ cazorla in their respective seasons
We lost an opportunity to replace wenger with this useless board when klopp/ pep were available
Gonna be in the wilderness for awhile I’m afraid

Emiratesstroller

It makes me laugh that the Italian Press suggest that Inter Milan are so poor that they can only
afford to take Bellerin on “loan with an option to buy” him.

Yet this club has just sold Hakimi for £54 million to PSG!!!

AFC Forever

Sly

I keep saying the same thing. This wasn’t a great squad he inherited, unbalanced. To play possession-based football we need better players at a higher technical level. All the bad decisions over the last god know’s how many years have been heaped on Artetas shoulders & he’s been made the scapegoat. Hopefully, when the windows over we will have a better pool of players for him to work with. Time will tell.

Leftside

All very slow on the transfer front, yes there is time as you say but we’ve been here before and seen how it can end.

AFC Forever

The club will be charging UK fans £7.99 to watch the friendly with Hibs tonight on Pay-Per-View. Kick-off 6 pm, coverage starts at 5.30 pm.

JOEL

There is no doubt that Willock should be sold to Newcastle or at the very least loaned with a promise to buy.
Keeping him will result in little more than bench warming for the coming Season and will see a massive drop in value. His goals for Newcastle probably doubled his transfer worth and Arsenal should make the most of this…Once again they are seen to have no clear cut plan…Nothing new there…Other than a desire to keep players past their “sell-by date”…Ramsey Sanchez and latterly AMN,Bellerin and Nelson,

Muppetman

£8 for a friendly is criminal. I personally wouldn’t pay that to watch a prem game.

SAGG

Kolasinac and Willian still.in the lineup, this club really has becoma a.laughing stock, and Arteta too.

If they are leaving why use them in preseason? If they are staying IS EVEN WORSE FOR US.

Every single day Arsenal show how they are working extremely hard to achieve a.worse.season than the last one.

Jim Lahey

For me, Santi was the best footballer I have ever got to witness play. Was a joy watching him at the Emirates.

Also strangely enough I got to see him play against my university, in 2011, for a pre-season friendly with Villareal! Scored too if I remember!

Sly

I have to agree to an extent AFC
Arteta has enraged me with his decision making as a coach over and over again but leaning on the side of objectivity
Who would want to manage this current squad and what can they realistically achieve with it
Judgement time should be after a rebuild and a season

Sly

Shouldn’t shock anyone we’re struggling with sales
Our players are not appealing
Simple as
Flog them and move on

Guns of SF

I agree, take what we can get. Time is ticking. Need to purge this team

WengerEagle

Only a mug would pay £8 to watch a meangingless friendly vs Hibs.

Br0wnie

Looks like Arsenal are trying to showcase players they want to get rid of and looking at young players today. No Azeez? These players should be gone by now. I guess it shows how much of a chasm there is between what Arsenal value them at and what the market is willing to pay

AFC Forever

Muppetman

“£8 for a friendly is criminal.”

I have to agree. The club needs to repair some of those burnt bridges. They should also respect the fact a lot of people have been hit hard financially with the pandemic and times haven’t been great. Be interesting to see the uptake because let’s be honest it is completely meaningless it’s just a bit of fitness. £2.99 would have been more realistic but even so, they could have streamed it free.

.

DUIFG

Bit of a joke of a club how they have arranged this pre season.

Firstly the fact they are selling it is just laughable.

Secondly for members haven’t even got a code and it’s now cut off. Tried calling but nobody picking up.

Average man

Tom

“Shame that he was nearly 28 signing for us.“

WE , yep………one of those Wenger signings few had imagined might’ve worked out , but did it ever.
What a joy to watch.

AFC Forever

Weagle, yep can’t imagine there will be many shelling that sort of cash. They even have the cheek to offer a 4 game friendly package at £27.99. I think it’s taking the piss to be honest. It proves that they don’t give a toss about us, that is a really poor PR decision.

CG

Willian in at Hibernian
William Saliba should be though.

Abominable man management and inept strategic club planning not to give the £30 000 000 defender a chance in these dead rubbers.

After all, what is the actual point of them????

Rich

………….Okonkwo
………..Clarke Mari
Cedric Elneny Kolasinac
………..Niles Nelson
….Willian …….Aubameyang
…………..Nketiah

DUIFG

The Ben white move must actually be done, otherwise it’s pretty bonkers we basically signal to btown we are desperate for a new cb so they can hike price.

Saliba is done here, no need to chat about it any longer , will be off for a 15 20m next summer

andy1886

Watch Willian pick up a knock ruling out a move this summer…

Marc

Has everyone suddenly developed a sense of humour or have Arsenal finally completely lost the plot?

£8 for a preseason friendly – don’t even know the words.

Marc

Why is Kolas playing – it’s hardly a case of putting him in the shop window.

Marc

We have pre season friendlies against the Spud’s and Chelsea in a few weeks – it’s part of some charity thing. £8 for them would be one thing.

AFC Forever

Marc

Yep, £8.00 to watch a pre-season run-around-the-pitch-for-fitness game. It is one of the most meaningless games of football you are ever likely to see and they’re treating it as PL game. Whoever made that decision has highlighted what we already know.

Rich

I’ve always liked Nelson, was considered one of the best young talents in the country just a couple of seasons back

There’s no doubting his talent, a move of some kind is likely, but could easily become another Gnabry situation down the line

Was considered to be alongside Sancho as the biggest talents of that age group, he’s gone off the boil a bit, but at 21, there’s still plenty of time

Dissenter

Have you guys considered that the club may be operating on fumes currently, after 1.5 years of COV devastation?

That may be why they are selling the games
When they come to Florida, the games wont be free either.

Marc

AFC

It’s not even a case of had no football for a couple of months, want to see the new marquee signing, want to see some of the youth players.

There’s a couple of players I’d prefer to never see play for us again and half the outfield players I don’t ever expect to see play for us in a competitive match again.

Tom

“£8 for a preseason friendly – don’t even know the words.“

Marc, try these words then : Ben White for £50million , every little bit helps.

Dissenter

Inter have to be wash with cash right now
Surely, they have the means to get Bellerin on an outright transfer
Bellerin is probably eyeing the elegant fashion shows of Milan, all the running he’ll do is on the catwalks.

Marc

Dissenter

And yet we’re preparing to spend £50 million on a CB?

Sorry can’t have it both ways.

Marc

Tom

So only £49,999,988 to go then!

Br0wnie

Maybe they’re hoping for 6.25 mil viewers today

Terraloon

ES It makes me laugh that the Italian Press suggest that Inter Milan are so poor that they can only afford to take Bellerin on “loan with an option to buy” him.Yet this club has just sold Hakimi for £54 million to PSG!!! They only need 6,250,000 people to buy this game, and Ben White will be all ours

They’re likely trying this out for future reference, when they cut out the middle man, and start screening their own content

If they’re charging £8 for a meaningless pre-season game against Hibs, I shudder to think what they’ll charge for a PL game in future

Surely it’s better to sell to 3 people at £3 than 1 person at £8

Elmo

Rich

They know the only people watching a pre-season friendly are price-inelastic fanatics. There aren’t the other 2 consumers willing to pay £3 so you gouge the guy who ‘cannot not’ watch for £8.
