A little less football news to chew through today, but look, I’ll put in a shift regardless because that’s the type of player I am.
Bukayo Saka scored an absolute screamer against Austria to take the game for the mighty England. The 90 was quite uninspired if I’m honest. Gareth Southgate giving minutes to everyone felt a bit weird, no one needed to see Pickford between the sticks. It was fun watching Grealish draw fouls, people just love to kick him, a bit reminiscent of our very own Jack back in the day. He’s an awesome player, it’ll be very sad when he moves to Manchester City this summer… and Arsenal fans, please stop pushing him as an option on the internet, it’s depressing. Not as depressing as reading fans thinking they are too good for Raheem Sterling. What the fuck is wrong with people?
There’s big talk that Spurs are trying to lure Mr Conte out of self-enforced retirement to have a crack at Daniel Levey’s ‘CAN YOU HELP ME WITH A TROPHY’ problem. This move isn’t as banterous as Roberto Martinez. Conte worked wonders at Chelsea in season one, before things went south. He turned Inter Milan around. His pattern tends to be, step into a mess, win something, complain about lack of signings, get fired or retire as a result of petulance.
I honestly don’t know why he’d go to Spurs. Levy isn’t exactly free with the cash and the Spurs rebuild job is a big one. We’ll see though, who thought he’d replace Poch with Mourinho? Maybe Levey will give him control over transfers? Always remember he oversaw Morata, Zappacosta, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, and Ross Barkley.
There is a tantalizing rumour in the French press via Loïc Tanzi that we’ve been talking to Luis Campos about moving to Arsenal. I think we could all agree that a move like that would be immense for the football leadership at Arsenal. No one moves a club quite like him. A hire like that seems almost a little too smart for Arsenal, so I’ll hold judgement on that. He fits the bill though. He knows how to identify value, he’s good at picking coaches, and he’s built transfer eco-systems on small budgets… and won titles.
Arsenal will head to Florida this preseason for a Florida Cup with Inter, Everton, and Millonarios. UK Arsenal fans complaining they can’t go. Can you believe that? THIS IS NOT FOR YOU, NOT EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND YOUR NEEDS. I’ll be jumping in a camper van and heading down. I might even do some LGTV interviews. Should be fun.
Martin Ødegaard does not know what to make of Carlo heading back to Madrid.
‘He is a coach I know and with whom I had a good relationship when he was last there.’
‘In that sense, it is positive. But beyond that, one day has passed, so I do not know too much about what he thinks about things.’
The hiring of Carlo is a control move by Perez, so you’d imagine if the President likes Martin, Martin is what he’ll see in the side next season. There is also talk that he’ll be sent back out on loan again, so we’ll see.
Kola is coming back. Schalke can’t afford. Hopefully we can bin him off like we did Mesut Ozil.
The club announced the players released.
Men’s and women’s first-team squads:
Dani Ceballos
David Luiz
Leonie Maier
Martin Odegaard
Mat Ryan
No shocks there.
Let’s finish out on a FRESH podcast. Get your ears on it. I talk with Johnny about transfers out of the club, Willy Saliba, and the moves we should be making this summer. It’s a good one. No Arteta talk.
Almunia Sounds like it could have been worse then. It might be a turning point in their fortunes. I was reading your thoughts and making subconscious comparisons with Arsenal and Arteta but while there are similarities, there are also some differences which you covered off. I much prefer international football when teams in our corner of Europe are hitting the heights. Scotland had a solid draw with Holland but 10 man Wales didn’t fare so well against France. They ve got this young Cardiff kid called Colwill who might be the next Ramsey. Anyhow mate, I’m glad you survived the… Read more »
Arteta out yet??
Rap or you know the club dismissing the manager after our worst season in recent history to move for Conte.
Oh god .we’re not back on that again. It’s obsession.
Any signs of some ruthless behaviour/ activity on the part of Arsenal yet?
Marko,
We are a classy club. We don’t do things like that.
You know, better rot in mid-table than sack an underperforming rookie manager just because he was a club captain, Pep said a good word for him, and he has a nice hair. Must be better than going all guns blazing for manager that has won the League title in every club he’s been in.
There is a huge difference between Zaha/Iwobi/Aubameyang/Pepe and Laporte. The firsts always had a cultural link to their birth or parents country. That link may be tenuous. For example Zaha did not speak French well enough to understand his countrymen. Aubameyang, Pepe speak French with a typical French accent and not an African one. However their parents did raise them with some links to their country. Laporte had no such connection. He was not even Spanish. He just received his citizenship, in emergency following an appeal by the Spanish FA. That emergency appeal was based in the fact he was… Read more »
Leeds,
Renato Sanches has had a good season, but not an extraordinary one. Galtier has used him in specific situation that fitted him and the teams. He was not an automatic starter.
If he can’t be an automatic starter at Lille, He is unlikely to be a starter at any top 4 club or club with top 4 aspiration. Also the way the team is setup he may end up not be an upgrade on Xhaka.
Where does this idea that big teams benefit from not competing in Europe? The top 4 sides in the league for as long as I can remember tens to compete in Europe (apart from Leicester in the league winning season, though they aren’t considered one of the traditional big side).
Also what’s with the shameless player of the season crap on Arsenal.com? Quite pathetic eh. Read the fucking room. First time out of Europe in 25 years and you’re celebrating player of the season?
“Any signs of some ruthless behaviour/ activity on the part of Arsenal yet?“

Letting go of 55 employees and the mascot during the pandemic probably qualifies.
Not to mention the fired tea lady’s name was Ruth.
I think we’ll go for Aouar in midfield, providing we can convince him It’s risky, only completed 90 minutes 6 times this season, regularly subbed early in the second half, and had his application and professionalism called into question on a few occasions It’s a high risk, high reward, type of gamble, 23, 170 appearances for Lyon, played and performed well in the CL He’s got pedigree, talent, and a decent amount of experience, but the last thing we need is another disinterested mercenary, with an overinflated ego I think we’ll target a press resistant technician, rather than a ball… Read more »

Rich, where do you see Aouar playing for us?
Rich, Arsenal can use the same strategy they used in convincing Partey to join.
Just explain the intricacies of the Arteta process to Aouar and he should be all in………………or fuck it, just quadruple his wages and be done with it.
Talisker 10 is growing on me…
This bissouma fella scored one goal and registered 0 assists last season.
Partey 0 goals and 2 assists.
What would their roles be in the midfield together? I get control but you need a little bit of creativity. Not exactly coq and Santi is it.
Also imagine being all guns blazing next season, Pepe and Auba banging thems in then oh, we lose 4 first teamers and a second string CM fir weeks.
Just listened to an Arsenal lounge podcast with Fabrizio. For those who don’t know Fabrizio is probably the man with the most connections in World football, especially Europe. He is the best transfer journalist there is. I’ll list down some key points – Bissouma is a potential target but he is not first choice. Fab says it’s because we are looking at a different type since Bissouma is a bit similar to TP ( Paraphrasing). We are working to sign our 1st choice. As Rich stated it could be Aouar but personally I dont think it is. Nobody knows right… Read more »
Talisker 10 is growing on me…
China1, good man. Enjoy.
Its why I am on team Anguissa. He is more of a dribbler, moves the ball well into attacking positions. Strong as well, can do the dirty work. mobile. 6’4
Put Buenida in front of TP and Anguissa..
Or this?

That team would be sick.
Guns Central midfield, if we get the right players, then we could move to playing with 2 No8s in certain games, particularly at home Also think he could play as part of a 2 man midfield next to Partey, similar role to what Cazorla played for us at the start of 2015/16 + 2016/17 seasons, before he got injured My concern is that you never know how players will adapt to the physicality of the league, I thought Ceballos was a really talented player, and when teams stood off him, he was a real joy to watch The issue he… Read more »
Tom,
Yeah it was pretty ruthless of Arsenal’s Executive Management to have got rid of Pedro’s best inside source at the club: Ruth the tea lady.
He’s never been the same since then, with a clear absence of the old insight he used to have….
Tom, Ruth’s sacking was particularly controversial as she had been in the job longer than her assistant Doris, whose job was spared following a strongly worded letter from an anonymous blog author. No one knows the price paid by said blogger to the management of the club for this favour. Sad news about Alan Miller, today.
I was out with him and some Middlesbrough players when they played Inter in a preseason friendly ,centuries ago.
A great laugh was had by all,I still have the picture of a shocked Ravanelli at our antics.
Well played Big Alan, a top man.
I think Aouar is just as big a risk as Pepe was and there are enough red flags about him, even if you discard half the shit you read as gossip and slander, to stay clear. If Arteta believes Buendia is a good fit to his system, whatever that might be, than paying the PL premium for him might be worth it. People who scoffed at Norwich for turning down Arsenal’s opening bid perhaps need to re-adjust their perspective and not think of Norwich as a Championship side that just got promoted, but rather a football club that finished only… Read more »

By all accounts the man was a gentleman. Watched this today, the first few mins are particularly pertinent to his Arsenal days. Mentions a high profile friendly when at boro, might be the one to which you referred.
Almuniasaynomore
People familiar with the situation said Doris was seen at a local jeweler watch shopping just days before the faithful decision.
Buendia a decent signing but hardly a top signing? Doesn’t get me wanting to pull my tool out and giving it a wobble.
Will help us get top 7 though. Mainly a RW too, so good cover for when Pepe is dancing in Africa next winter in the AFCON.
Guns Something has to give in our forward line, the balance is wrong, and we’ve got a surplus of players Smith-Rowe, Willock Saka, Pepe, Willian, Nelson Martinelli, Aubameyang Lacazette, Nketiah, Balogun 11 players for 4 positions is too many, particularly without European football, we need to purge 4, just to bring in one Nketiah + Lacazette + Willian + Nelson, seem like the most likely candidates to depart, even though I think Nelson will develop into a really top player We need to make a decision on Willock, create space and give him minutes, extend his deal and send him… Read more »
Avi, who would you consider a top signing and more importantly why would they come to Arsenal?
This will be a really underwhelming window. We have set up to fail including by not being in Europe
CT
“Willock will leave if an important bid arrives.”
And then we will use the money to help fund the signing of Aouar, who managed to score 7 goals in 30 appearances in the weaker French league.
Seems like a plan that’s doomed to fail if you ask me….
Tom
Id absolutely throw the kitchen sink on Grealish and give him assurance of making him the talisman and building the side around him to hurl us back to the top
Tough sell but that’s the sort of deal to take us top again.
Im telling you now, We won’t make top 4 with the likes of Buendia and Bissouma.. Absolute midtable players
Bissouma doesn’t have a single EPL goal or assist so far.. Tackle merchant
Hakimi,Grealish and a proper CF and we’re back swinging dicks with the top clubs again
Anything short of that and is just anoder season of boring midtable slug. You can take that to the bank
Grealish is a pie in the sky for more reasons than just money.
He gets a lot of freedom at Villa to do his thing and that’s how he likes it.
Put a lot of tactical constraints on him the Arteta style and he won’t be nearly as productive at Arsenal as he’s been at Villa,
Get Cunha from Hertha Berlin, Guen might put up a good word for us (LOLz).
Powerful player. Scores a lot, dribbles, mighty long shot, if teams defend in numbers he’ll make runs in the box.
Just turned 22 yo, 10 days ago. Scores for fun in Brazil’s U23 NT.
This player will be worth a lot of money in a year or two. Now is probably at ~30m with some bonuses.
Tom, Truth is stranger than fiction! You reminded me of a joke and it is Friday after all……. A middle aged couple from a rural village were on a rare day out in the city. A general dislike of urban hustle and bustle meant that this was a place they were most unfamiliar with. Fact we’re in a bidding war with fcking Aston Villa for a player is a big enough insult on its own
Buendia is a decent player by all means but still far below the kind of talent we need to elevate this club I’m afraid
His level is the likes of West ham, Villa and Everton. How low have arsenal really fallen? Very sad
Avi, Hakimi is going to afcon with Marocco isn’t he.
That would make five Arsenal players………. Rich is gonna blow a gasket.
Not signing an absolute quality player that could be the difference between top 4 and midtable mediocrity because of some tourney is about the most ridiculous stuff I’ve read on here for a while now and I’ve come across some real whoopers
I mean how many games are we talking about here? Ffs
Players that would improve the team massively especially in the mentality department (where the manager is feeble) include the likes of B. Silva and Grealish. But we will of course sign players with question marks such as Onana and the unproven from clubs making big profits on the deal.
Pierre I would love to extend Willock and send him out on loan. See how he does over the course of the season. But right now, Aouar is a much better plan than Willock. I know everyone likes to bring up the 8 in 8 and I’m very happy to see an Arsenal academy product with that record. But in his current state, Joe Willock is a 4th choice CM and 3rd choice AM for Arsenal. + We dont know if it’s going to be Aouar or someone else. I prefer Neuhaus for that pivot role alongside TP. Thank God you aren’t in charge of of our transfers. People sniff at players like Buendia because they play for a lower team. But players elevate their games when playing with better players. Van Djik, Mane, Wijnaldum, Robertson all picked up from lowly teams. And they were key cogs in a champions league and premier league liverpool side. I bet you haven’t watched him play once.
Selling Willock is a Gnabary level mistake.
I’m telling you for free!
“”””For those who don’t know Fabrizio is probably the man with the most connections in World football, especially Europe. He is the best transfer journalist there is.””””
Who does he think will win the Transfer Window Trophy this year?
Avi, incorrect I’m afraid.
Official PL stats say that last season Bissouma scored 1 goal and had zero assists (probably not a surprise given Brighton’s inability to finish chances). Overall he has two goals in two seasons.
Anguissa scored zero goals last season but had 3 assists.
You’re right though, neither are going to help us much in the last third.
On the subject of Aouar from all reports he seems to be a bit of a d*ck and his a greedy d*ck of a brother as his agent. Avoid like the plague.
andy1886,
Yeah, Aouar is a bit of dick.
Inevitably we’ll buy him for £40m, he’ll sparkle for a while, then have a massive fall-out with Arteta, who’ll sideline him, permanently.
Then Pedro will fully justify Arteta’s decision – on the grounds that Aouar is a total twat, and englandsbest will wholly endorse Pedro, whilst “Cazorla” will call anyone who disagrees with Pedro’s assessment a cunt.
Thank God you aren’t in charge of of our transfers.” Imagine this nonsense! Araenal is currently one of the most poorly managed club in the world for years now,I mean the club are canceling out contracts and giving out players for free because some incompetent fcks have been running it to the ground and yet you come out with this tripe! Simple question do you see the likes of Bissouma moving the needle for this football club yes or no?
Would love Grealish but as pointed out, Mike Arteta system is very rigid. Not much freedom for our mids whatsoever is allowed. So, Grealish would be great but he would have his wings clipped by Mike.
If the goals is to get us creating and scoring again, Mike needs to have an epiphany and allow his players that freedom again.
SO I can see Bissouma sitting back while our attackers do their thing or getting Anguissa to do the same, and also provide keep passing and movement.
But who the F knows… apparently there is a mystery number one target.
Almunia
Nice gag that one. Made me smile. Might give that app a go. But homemade inter-family sweepstakes for ridiculously small amounts of money are unbeatable. The initial draw is akin to watching the third round draw of the FA Cup. So fucking exciting.
Kroenkephobe
Unless you draw North Macedonia or Hungary!
We both know money is irrelevant, it’s all about family bragging rights,no price can be put on that. Good luck with the draw, let us know who you’re declaring for.
Avi “andy1886Simple question do you see the likes of Bissouma moving the needle for this football club yes or no?” 100% yes.. At this present time it is vitally important that we control the midfield area, and Bissouma and Partey will give us that control.. Both Technically good, disciplined , comfortable on the ball, can read the game well and will give good protection. The question that some ask is will they produce goals and assists, the answer is no , but it is of no importance as I believe that having 2 quality centre midfielders who are positionally perfect… Read more »
Avi Whatever you say man. But I detest the idea that you can’t find gems at lower clubs. You don’t have to buy superstars. I know everyone would love grealish this summer. But Buendia might do better than him for us. No one knows what is going to happen. So far we have failed because we sign big name players based on reputation. Avi we have no chance of getting Grealish at all villa owners are rich they do not need to sell
Hakimi is too expensive as well we are not shopping at Harrods
The RB from Ajax and the Anderlecht kid is a cheaper alternative to bisouma
He may be a top player so worth the gamble
I know Pedri is the new kid on the block but what’s happened to Puig he was impressive the season before.
That’s the kind of thinking out of the box signing that could move us forward on the relative cheap.
For those scared that Anguissa is barren and his shots at goal ends up in throwing, it is my pleasure to inform you that he just scored against the Almighty Super Eagles of Nigeria in a friendly match.

Conte is gonna turn spurs down he is not confident they are ready to win trophies

Buendia links are serious it seems. I am very happy about it. He is a player on the up. And he will elevate our game even with Arteta in charge. We need some flair and creativity along with a player who takes risks. He will definitely help us move forward.

Yes, we probably deserve better than Buendia in near future but right now this guy is way better than what we have in terms of whats missing in our play.. I agree, although in the same way that covid is devaluing players’ wages and transfer values, it’ll also inevitably reduce wages of managers too.
Also of interest is the varying extents to which national leagues will be affected financially. French clubs (sauf PSG) for example are meant to be on their knees so there could be an exodus of talent and a re-levelling. It’s not great here either although TV revenues might remain high.

Conte ‘unconvinced’ by Spurs and Levy’s project, LOL.
I’m stunned that he wasn’t reeled in by their rich history and prestige as well as Levy’s track record of glittering success which speaks for itself, that sole Dairylea Lunchables Cup title win back when Woodgate still had knees, Sancho and Foden were ripping it up in the Under 7’s, smartphones were yet to even exist and Bush was president.
I’ve been basking in the schadenfreude on the Spud’s Sub Reddit where they are all in mourning, lmao.
