DEEPSTATE REBELS EXITED + ESPN RUN EDU SECRET RECORDINGS (NOT GOOD)

by .

Gooooooood morning! Arteta dropped some intel about some of the reasons we struggled early in the season.

DEADWOOD DEEPSTATE. Think I stole that from someone on the Arsenal Vision Podcast. Now it is mine.

The allusion was that certain players that aren’t here now were the problem.

I cannot imagine which part-time social media manager on £350k a week that could have been?

I cannot imagine which binned players might have been causing those issues?

I cannot imagine which players exiting might also have had a role?

The mess of the squad at the start of the last season led to dramatic decisions. Those decisions against big names were obviously going to hit the morale of the squad. You’ve all worked with a dickhead who hands their notice in and determines to burn the house down.

‘THIS PLACE IS A HELLISH VACUUM OF PUSS THAT IS GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM’

Actual quote from Sandra from accounts at my place.

The biggest issue, Mesut Ozil, was a problem because he was the king. Everyone knows that when the King is dethroned, you have to kill him, because their prior power will always be a threat to stability. The German was too big for Arsenal at that point, he was hurt by the rejection, so it was clear he’d be a problem internally and externally.

Form has picked up since we rid the squad of bad eggs. Things have been better since we discovered the power of creativity in our midfield. We controlled games far better with Thomas Partey in the side.

Everyone is whining on about how 23 games of form doesn’t count for anything. Well, let’s see how that pans out next season, but also dig a little deeper into some other elements.

Leicester beat us with their only run into our box. We smashed them at their place.

Fulham beat us without having a shot on target.

Wolves didn’t deserve to beat us chance. Self inflicted Wolves.

Spurs beat us off 5 attempts at our goal and 30% possession. It was palmed off as ‘genius’ at the time, but let’s be real, it was luck as shown by Jose exiting the building a few months later.

Burnley beat us off 2 shots on target.

Everton beat us twice.

Villa beat us twice.

Basically, a lot of very lucky stuff happened against some very average teams this season.

Turn 3 of the above games into more positive results and the last game of the season sees Arsenal in Champions League spots in our worst ever season.

Hardly a stretch, right?

Think how much better life will be if we have a settled squad come the summer. Creative players from the start. An Auba not dealing with family issues and malaria. Young players a season on.

Arsenal will sell a whole collection of players. I’m not sure reading the praise of the manager is indicative of who we are keeping, it’s a negotiation tactic. Do we really think Madrid believe their future hinges on Odegaard? Doubtful… but it’ll pump his price. Same for the players Mikel is saying are under contract. We are less desperate this summer, which will lead to bigger fees (or actual fees).

Arsenal will no doubt try and make Martin a centre piece of our rebuild this summer and I’d agree with that. I’d certainly prioritize him over the Norwich fella at £450m or whatever they are looking to charge for him.

Then we’ll go for a right back, which has basically been a dead position all season. A nightmare for many reasons, but mainly because we’re lopsided when we attack. If we can bring Tierney levels to the right, it opens a whole world of possibilities.

Ryan Bertrand is perfectly acceptable cover on the left (Leicester after him, so should be safe).

Then we need to address that midfield. I have no idea who we’ll look for in that role, but hopefully we have another press resistant player that can move in the role.

Shake out the deadwood this summer.

Have a 6 week preseason and bond the leaner group.

Make sure everyone is excited and knows their own personal plan.

There will be no excuses next season, but I don’t believe there will be a need for them.

The players are backing the manager. Look at the vibes in the training ground video for David Luiz’s send off.

The club is going to bat for the first team again this summer.

I think we’re on the up.

Final word for the Edu story doing the rounds. The gist is he was taking orders from someone banned from Brazilian football for corruption when he was over there. I don’t understand enough detail to give a running commentary, but the basics are pretty clear, he took orders, he knew who from.

Arsenal relevance:

  • It shows real lack of leadership to keep quiet when things like that are going on. The guy giving orders was behaving like Pablo Escobar from jail. Shocking stuff.
  • Subservience to shady characters is clearly part of his operating system.

Speaking up about tough things that don’t feel right is part of any big job. I’d say ‘imagine if that was Arsenal’ but let’s be honest, we’ve seen people fail to speak truth to power in our football braintrust to great cost. Shocking deals, cosy agent relationships, huge wastage that a layman could have predicted.

This story is a bad reflection on Edu, but an even worse one on our leadership. Did anyone check in with people that had worked with him to see if he was a determined leader, or a soft touch people pleaser?

I doubt anything will come of it, but at the very least, I hope Vinai V, Richard G, and Josh K are keeping an extra close eye on who we are talking to this summer. The number 1 interest should always be Arsenal FC, that clearly hasn’t been the case with a lot of the decisions we’ve made over the past 4 years. The weaknesses on show in this story aren’t hard to trace back to some if the things we’ve seen at Arsenal (subservience). It is also a worry that he can be so comfortable working with a man of corruption. It’s a canary in the coal mine. Let’s hope we’re not on the receiving end of one of these stings in the future.

You’re like myself, to get over being an Irish Arsenal fan, double whammy there, you look for joy in football wherever you can get it. I hope those underdogs all triumph tomorrow also. And Bati is the only milan fan I know,I don’t know anyone who likes Juve so for that reason alone I hope ac make it (even though Gazidis is a bollox).

Dream10

There has not been a lot of info on Per while he’s head of the academy. A lot of responsibility in that role. I’m skeptical of him like I am of Arteta tbh.

Have a feeling Milan will miss out on CL. Atalanta will take out their anger on them from their midweek cup loss

So Steve boulds been sacked, interesting there is seemingly accountability for u23s performance but at 1st team level any excuse will get you by. Whatever you think about his coaching performance, brutally exiting another club legend just makes another reason to hate the “regime” at Arsenal. Let’s just forget about this much used bollocks marketing term “process” and call this little lot, legohead, per, edu, vinai and the kroenkes what they are, a nasty little regime. Unbecoming that arteta survives and bould gets shown the door. The process is a big panic and all this lot are about is consolidating… Read more »

Edu bad, arteta good is that the sum total of the analysis ?

Its funny as fuck that these ‘rebel’ players were mostly wenger buys. I also love how people grasp so strongly on our defensive stats, irrespective of the fact our style of play has taken a massive hit as well as our offensive game. Our squad is average, in comparison to our past squads. But we definitely had enough in the squad to get more than 1 point from burnley and get at least a point from villa over 4 games. For me that ia squarely on the manager. Too ‘smart’ for his own good. Just chopping and changing the first… Read more »

I would like to see Kola Toure brought back to Arsenal as a Coach.

He was an intelligent and successful footballer at both Arsenal and Man City and has already

Pedro, I genuinely hope you’re right about next season and I’m wrong. But this post feels like one of those “If grandma had a d*ck, she’d be grandpa” arguments. Also, it’s fine to bring up all those times we’ve been unlucky this season and didn’t deserve to lose. But then, for the sake of consistency, you should talk about all the times we got a result when we didn’t deserve one. Chelsea away comes to mind. There was no tactical masterclass there – we got lucky. Ten men sitting in Berne’s lap for 90 minutes. No press – our players… Read more »

Really?

AMN, Torreira, Guendouzi, willock, mustafi, martinez, ozil, kolasinac and Sokratis are the players that are not at the club presently.

3 wenger signings, 3 Emery signings, 3 academy players.

Can’t not post on game day and having read many of the posts this week from golf courses I have a couple of predictions: Pedro has a secret thing for Philippa Dawson, great grand daughter of Woolwich Arsenal’s first chairman, who I recently learned was trained in NYC as an actress, and now subsequently Tony Attwood has adopted Pedro who has a dedicated allegiance to Untold with Le-Grove with (Arteta) past and future posts falling in line to the Attwood Arteta delusional thinking: “I’m right and everyone else is wrong with all things Arteta” This season Attwood planted Untold’s favourite… Read more »

Talking to my son after golf yesterday and I said to him, we’ve been lucky this season only missing two games: the recent Palace – Arteta’s serving of Deja Vu and one of the early non entity EL cup games.

My son replied dryly, “really dad, how lucky have we been?”

It’s very rare my son renders me speechless.

Have to say he’s right – there are very few games from all comps that has offered real memorial moments, with Arteta’s boring handbrake football over 38 PL games.

Nothing against Mari or Holding but as any intelligent footballer knows it’s about winning rather than clean sheets. And Gabriel-Luiz pairing had a higher win % than Holding-Mari pairing. This is a stat I saw a couple weeks back so don’t know if it holds true even now. Anyhow, Holding and Mari really add very little to our build up play, they may be the more solid defensive pairing but Gabriel and Luiz also play important roles in our build up. I’d be very disappointed to see the club go in for a Luiz replacement. If Saliba can’t be given the opportunity next season to play, he likely never will.

He isn’t some academy player who could sink, he has been playing top flight football in France and has been impressing by and large. He is literally a free option to take Luiz’s spot.

Arteta def doesn’t like real legends of the club eh. I heard they’re replacing him with a street vendor from copacabana beach. A friend of Edu’s apparently

andy1886

It seems that what MA learned from Pep was ‘keep opening the cheque book until you get it right’. Hardly a realistic approach at a clib like Arsenal. City spent £428m on 11 defenders in the last five years before they managed to find a decent blend that didn’t include Vincent Kompany.

Buy a back up LB by all means (young, hungry – not aging semi-retired), buy a RB if Bellerin leaves (but sell one of Soares or Chambers too). But any request for yet another CB should be given very short shrift.

andy1886

*club, not ‘clib’.

It is staggering of all the players/ legends from the Invincibles era, that could be managing Arsenal.

No wonder why we dont score too many at home and are midtable.

Raulishuss

Pierre artera has so many faults you don’t need to accuse him of been mean because he’s not playing fucking Cedric you labelled him a nothing signing and here you are. Cedric might just not be in the best physical form or some tactical reasons. Arteta has played him so many times to dispel any accusations that he doesn’t like him or Cedric broke any code

Emiratesstroller

Pierre

Both Chambers and Soares are “squad material” right backs. Neither is remotely good enough as starting X1 players for a top team.

Arsenal need to recruit a first string right back if as is assumed Bellerin is leaving this summer. This is from my perspective one of three priority signings that the club needs to
make.

China1

Skysports are saying arteta has sacked bould for only coming 10th with the arsenal u23s

The irony is strong with this one…

andy1886

Raulhuss, not sure about that, he’s played ten games in the PL this season including those coming on as a sub.(twice). Performance wise he played well enough for some people to call for him to be our starting RB. Lately however Mikel decided he’s rather play Xhaka at LB at the detriment to our midfield so barring injury there must be something going on.

China1

Yeah no more CBs

How many times must arsenal hoard players in a particular position for no obvious reason and certainly no benefit

We need a balanced squad not a squad that is top or bottom heavy

Actually I thought cedric was doing pretty well but for some reason Arteta has decided he would play xhaka at left back and saka at right back.

Make of that what you will , but it all points to Cedric breaching the non negotiables as his performances were good enough for a right footed left back .

China1

Cedric and chambers are both adequate backups and chambers is utility as he can play cb and even dm too. He’s not gonna pull up trees but he’s a useful homegrown squaddie

China1

Tbh if you wanna save money we can just say chambers is backup Rb and soares is backup lb

Chris – agree, CM is the big one for me. Just one player of real quality in there could make all the difference to get Pepe, ESR, Saka and GM into dangerous positions more frequently. Partey would probably improve and elneny would not be the worst in a supportive role I’d also prefer to see Auba replaced with someone more suited to the lone CF role, as I think that’s the second area we have really been lacking this season – our best, most arsenal-like attacking moments have usually been when Laca’s been in the side because of his ability… Read more »

Hopefully it’s true and the players force Arsenal to be ruthless.

Davi

Yeah, i’m starting to rate chambers. He always looked too slow for RB under Wenger, but looks fine now (I guess because the team has been more defensive in general so he gets more protection?). His crossing is dangerous and he’s always looked up for the fight in defence and attack.

Dissenter

Arteta can’t sack Bould though, that’s Edie and Mertsacker.

Chambers is not a starting right back, he’s adequate cover but the problem is that we still have Cedric for another three years and he too is a a solid RB No club needs TWO back up RBs on very good wages. You miss the point.

We need an upgrade on all three right backs currently at the club. I am assuming that Bellerin will be sold this summer and possibly Chambers or Soares will leave as well.

Whatever is our budget needs to be spent on the First X1 at the club. From my perspective
the three positions are RB, CMF and AMF.

The backup squad X1 is less of a priority this summer. Players like Bertrand and Ryan can
be recruited at minimal cost. We have adequate cover in our squad unless we are qualifying
for Europa League.

@Dissenter

I agree. He deserved that much at least. Problem is we all know what a cunt Arteta is. Little man syndrome.

I can see that Chambers has learnt from Bellerin how to defend a fast winger. He doesn’t get too close to the opponent so that he’ll have a better chance to stop the opponent’s advance. The down side is that the opponent has more room to cross the ball.

Chris

Andy

You outline the reasoning for not signing a player like Bertrand perfectly. Nice work.

Besides Tierney unfortunately doesn’t have the best injury record so we need someone on the up as back up, not someone on the way down. I’d rather be using Cedric there if nothing else.

Nelson

Holding is not a good CB to support playout from the back. He has improved defending. He is now not only defending the space but also covers the opposing striker.

Mb

IMO, the most important thing for Arteta should be to find his playing XI. There is no Europa & FA Cup. It’s just premier league, 38 match run once a week.

The signing on fee would be spread over the course of the contract so basically takes the wages from £60k per week to over £100k per week, we then find ourselves after a season asking why we can’t get the player off the books when he’s either not good enough or we’ve got a better… Read more »

Marc, absolutely.

Apart from Kola another prime exmple is Willian. There’s an argument over how much he’s paid ranging from £130k pw to £200k+ pw and the simple explanation is that his wages ARE £130k pw BUT including the signing on fee (which as you say is spread over the term of the contract) takes that figure up to £200k+ pw.

Either way you look at it it’s a crap deal and Bertrand would similarly be a crap deal.

And that’s not even considering he’d have little motivation and is likely to deteriorate physically over the next two years (he’ll be 32 on August 5th). He’s also another short term fix and we’d be back in the same position in another couple of years anyway (although we should have won the CL by then of course).

It’s a shame that Jordi Ossei Tutu was injured fairly early during his loan spell at Cardiff. He has the makings of a decent attacking RB (initially as a back up) but that injury has probably set him back a year in his development. Chambers has surprised me this year with his technique. He controls everything at any height/strength and his crossing has been astonishing at times. I also think Soares generally does a good job but he could do with being taller and therefore better in the air. He’s a bit of a gobshite but Connor Roberts (RB) at… Read more »

Gabriel playing tiki-taka..

Mari plays Sean Dyche football ?

I’m not sure which is the more ridiculous statement…

Well said.

Rob H will probably lead out his midtable team later today against Brighton.

From Chambers to Cedric, to Willian to Bertram to Luiz immature videos to Edu and Arteta the club stinks of utter and abject mediocrity.

‘Be excited’, ‘trust the procees’, ‘ruthless’and ‘non negotiables , I have had a belly full of this bullshit.

Just get the season over and dont finish 7th.

Soares is passable as cheap cover for Tierney. Chambers covers incoming RB. If we recruit well at RB and CM then I’d accept the backup FB arrangement

‘’ Pierre both Chambers and Soares are “squad material” right backs. Neither is remotely good enough as starting X1 players for a top team.Arsenal need to recruit a first string right back if as is assumed Bellerin is leaving this summer. This is from my perspective one of three priority signings that the club needs to make’

I’m not sure I agree mate about finishing 7th. At the moment, most of us recognise the utter shitshow that this season has been. I want it over too, having had genuine fears of relegation just before Christmas. Arteta has been a truly terrible manager and has no place in the club.

But come August I think we’ll all be craving seeing Arsenal in action. If that includes watching the likes of Balogun and Azeez beating some team of wankers I’ll take that. The alternative is nothing.

Sorry a team of wankers in the europa conference…

Gabriel is for Sean Dyche brand of football and Mari for tiki taka. Pablo Mari is the best defender we have by some margin. I love how he plays. Gabriel is like Paulista/Vermaelen, aggressive but error prone and a thick head at times.

Bould was sacked by Mertesacker, not Arteta. Bould really failed to deliver both as a first team coach and a youth coach, can’t complain about him being sacked.
