DAVID LUIZ OUT – ARTETA & EDU PASS FIRST ‘RUTHLESS’ TEST

by .

Happy Friday to you ALL.

David Luiz is out at Arsenal.

A good leader at times.

An inspiration to a generation of Arsenal kids who saw him as a mentor and a legend.

The absolute correct decision for Arsenal FC as we head into a big summer rebuild.

I don’t want to bag on the player, but the reality is for all his big game skill, he was mistake-prone, unfocused, and problematic if he wasn’t getting exactly what he wanted.

Moving him on is a big move for Edu and Arteta. It’s the first break on the grip that Kia has had on the two of them. It opens up a space for someone like Saliba. It allows us to start addressing the ‘unforced error’ table he’s had a massive had in over the past two years.

This move was also correct from an injury perspective. Arsenal lost Luiz at the most important part of the season, we got him back, then lost him right after. Big players need to be fit. Luiz is on the back 9 of his career, he’s not getting fitter or faster.

I am very, very happy. This sets the tone for the summer providing we don’t walk right back into another hellish deal for some other older player looking for a retirement deal.

There are lots of rumours bubbling around. I think we’ll move on Bertrand as cover for Tierney, we’ll sign a right-back, we’ll look at a good central midfielder or two, and I suspect we’ll find competition for ESR for that #10 spot.

We need to move on the players that have baggage with Arsenal.

We need to age down the squad.

We need to find players with big personalities that want to grow with one of the most exciting young crops of players in Europe.

This summer could be exciting, we just have to trust our novice leadership team actually learned the lessons of the last 18 months.

Big, big if… but this is a great start.

In other news, how awesome is the new Arsenal kit? Literally the best part of the season is the new shirt.

Right, a quick one today, see you in the comments.

‘Gasperini is a miracle worker’

Yeah but he’s old and Italian.

I swear, some of the shit you read on here, lol.

Leicester with a Premier League and FA Cup within 6 years, they should be a top 6 side instead of Spurs

Sid

Fans have a low tolerance toAnti football, which Tuchel has, you can get away with losing if the football is interesting

raptora

Pretty happy for Leicester. Proper ran club.

Ps

So, how does that 1:0 win for Lecester against Chelsea compare to AFCs performance?

36% possession, one shot on target.

Lots of adulation on the BBC.

Praising how the club is (currently) run too.
Ignoring the fairly recent history regarding financial irregularities

Duzie

Diet Klopp might prove to be a bottler. Chelsea are unforgiving!

“”””Nice to see a club with an owner who cares and a manager not on a work experience scheme.”””””

Well said.
Cant argue with that. And if Rogers for one moment takes his foot off the pedal, they will already have a Potter /Gerrard line up to replace him.

Leicester go from strength to strength. £100 million training ground complex too.

Their Turkish center half is a proper player too.

Does Gasperini speak English?

If not, he’s disqualified per the Emirates Stroller doctrine

Yea looks like Napoli maybe the ones to drop but we still have Atlanta next week too.

Would love it if Juve were the ones to miss out

Linker re Vardy “winning trophy after trophy in a Lecester city shirt”

What, one premier League title and now an FA cup?

raptora

Vardy’s decision to stay at Leicester proven as the correct one.

Arsenal are shambles mid table team happy with their noob fraud of a manager while Leicester have won a cup and have been playing UCL football for years.

Said it once ill say it again. In these modern times. In these mediocre midtable times for Arsenal. Currently we are Everton. We hope to be Leicester ( FA CUP Winners and more importantly Top 4 contenders). And we absolutely dred becoming a Newcastle.

Did not understand why Brendan Rodgers(the bottom squealer),brought on Wes Morgan-a defender (well past his prime)? Was it for sentimental reasons? The VAR decision worked in Leicester’s favour. If not for that and Chelsea’s goal stood,Leicester might not be celebrating right now. The bottom line is,why would Brendan Rodger’s bring on a veteran defender, defending a 1-0 lead, with minutes to spare against a robust Chelsea team who are in the Champions League Final? Worrisome,by my perspective.Against CL opponents you’d get punished for that decision -9 times out of 10. He-Brendan Rodger’s got away with his tactical substitution today. In short,he’s not a Klopp,Pep… Read more »

Correction, they haven’t been playing UCL for years but they have done remarkably well. Top 4 on the cards along with an FA Cup is a phenomenal season for them. Only City can be happier if they win the UCL.

Hope Leicester get top 4 as well but they need to strengthen the squad quite a bit and replace Vardy.

How does a millimetre or so affect that equaliser?

VAR control centre and criteria is not fit for purpose.

Chelsea effectively have to win all their league games, should Liverpool do the expected and win their last 3, to qualify for the CL from top four.

Let’s get this into perspective.Leicester won the EPL in 2015. The expectations surrounding Leicester should be higher,at least within the club and the expectations of their fans.. To be fair when Arteta grows up and gets some actual experience he might become a good football manager.

Currently it’s just like having a college leaver on an intern scheme and like most interns he got the job through connections.

I hope he is working for free like most interns – if not we need David Milliband on the case.

Ps

Leicester were playing Championship football less than ten years ago. Everything they have achieved has been exceptional considering everything. I am sure they will go from strength to strengthen and make themselves European regulars in one competition or another. They are excellently run, to the point where we should be taking serious note of how they operate and use it for ourselves.

London gunner

Rich

Problem is we can sign better players but if they are managed by a donkey it won’t make any difference.

Brendan does have a better squad but not by much and he shits all over arteta with his management skills and tactics

andy1886

PhD2020, to be fair to Leicester we played for twenty straight years in the CL and only made a serious impression in a handful of those even with some terrific teams so to expect Leicester to make much of an impression in Europe is a bit unfair.

WengerEagle

Porto aren’t a great comparison PHD. They are a financial powerhouse in Portugal and get to hoover up a load of the South American talent that aren’t available to Premier League clubs due to 3rd Party Ownership strings. Near guaranteed to qualify for the CL every season along with Benfica due to their duopoly over the competition [shout-out though to Sporting who won the league this year for the first time in 20 years]. Waiting for Pedro to say Brendan Rodgers copied tactics from Arteta .

Tom

“Let’s get this into perspective.Leicester won the EPL in 2015.The expectations surrounding Leicester should be higher,at least within the club and the expectations of their fans..“

That’s not how I see it.
They only won the title because the league top teams were retooling, Arsenal only signed a keeper, and the refs helped them out some, because they went along with the media spun Cinderella story based on the bookies odds, which I believe were 5000-1.

Leicester are punching above their weight.

I think playing one game a week next season will give us a better chance of making top four and I see teams like West Ham Leicester really struggling to cope. It’s mentally draining , especially the europa cup, playing on a Sunday , playing catch up. You have to have a large but manageable squad, also greater risk of injuries, look no further than wolves this season.

DivineSherlock

I would say Chelsea were predictable and Tuchel got his lineup wrong. If there is a glaring weakness , you would attack that . Leicester did that , its not genius of Arteta . Also Leicester has had more injury problems than us . If he had everyone available he wouldnt have played that way.

Leicester know their place in the food chain and play their cards to perfection accordingly. Every Leicester player knows they eventually can use their platform as a springboard to making more money at a bigger club in due course, so they don’t make waves when their potential transfer is delayed for a season or so. They don’t sell them wholesale like Monaco did after winning their title in France , but rather one at the time. Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez, Maguire and Chilwell went for a combined total of $300m over the five seasons and due to careful planning Leicester have… Read more »

I’m not saying that Arteta is a genius, but it is interesting comparing the narrative in the media and amongst fans.

If Tuchel did get it wrong against AFC and LCFC that’s on him, but the opposition still has to exploit it.

Re LCFC’s travails, we had similar in 2005 v Man Utd. It was far from pretty, Man Utd were comparably better than this Chelsea.

There is currently a lack of consistency in this Chelsea team, despite the improvements since Tuchels appointment. He is still using someone else’s recruitment, although is familiar with those from the Bundesliga

” It’s mentally draining , especially the europa cup, playing on a Sunday”

If that’s the case how come Leicester have been in the top four for most of the season while being in Europa League.

Ps

Lesser, or younger players may relish the chance to play in the Europa.

Look at the performance of the AFC youngsters, particularly in the earlier rounds, compared to the more experienced players

Well first of all it’s hard atm to think of Leicester players being “lesser” than Arsenal ones at this time and secondly Leicester had a very poor result in going out to Slavia Prague in the first knockout round of Europa League. Some accused them of not having that real hunger for the Europa League due to being in the top four for virtually all season in EPL. So not quite relishing the Europa League.

Just look at the points totals from the Leicester title winning season (81) and the seasons right after to get a better picture what it would take for them to be competitive with City and Liverpool once both Pep and Klopp really got going.

If Leicester winning the title in the first place was a miracle, then there is no word in the English language to describe them making 100 points a season after.

Ps

@DivineSherlock

Some of the pressing in the Chelsea AFC game was good to see.

Some of the attacking decision making was poor. Should have had more potency.

AFC got away with some things defensively (mind you Adams et al used to frighten the bejeesus out of me at times).

Chelsea were fairly impotent all told and only rallied near tye end.

There are comparisons to todays game, and much to worry Chelsea for the UCL final.

Pep should mot take things for granted though
