PREDICTABLE PATTERNS DO NOT BODE WELL

by .

We’ve entered the deadzone part of the season.

There’s nothing to play for. The football has gone back to being shit again. Arteta is playing the November hits because he’s more concerned over proving out his fantasies that his big summer misses will click for him.

A lot of fans didn’t like what I penned yesterday. Many people preferred to focus on the woodwork and missed chances. I can’t have it.

That was a shit performance from a starting line-up we all had a bad feeling about. Not just that, it was another example of Arteta having different vibes for different players. Senior players are allowed to be shit for 80 minutes… young players get yanked early if there’s a sniff of a bad day at the office.

… we didn’t lose though. This is a results business you might say. Well, for me, that’s not actually what we’re judging Arteta on this season… this year was supposed to be about performances and it was a chance to monitor patterns in his approach to the game.

We can all tolerate mistakes. Every coach makes them. What you can’t abide by is the same mistakes being made over and over again.

Gabriel Martinelli should be starting. There’s no data out there underpinning a reason why we’d start a low energy Willian ahead of him. It’s blind favouritism.

The Premier League is dead. There’s no reason for Arteta to put out a senior team tomorrow. This squad isn’t capable of maturity. If Arteta puts senior players in tomorrow, they’ll see it as a punishment, and we’ll get a nothing performance again (just like we did against Villa last season).

Tomorrow, against the worst team in the league, we should be putting out players we need to learn things about. Azeez? Why not. Joel Lopez? What do we have to lose? Martinelli? Yes please. New deal Flo Balogun through the middle? Why the fuck not. Cal Chambers as a centre back? He can play ball, start him. Mat Ryan? Should be. Rumours are Leno wants out, could anyone care less right now?

I don’t gives a shit about going 11th to 9th. I don’t care about Willian, Lacazette, and Auba right now. I care about moving on fromt his dreadful pattern of mistakes that Arteta is presiding over.

The fans will forgive kids, they’ll forgive players trying… they won’t forgive a manager picking the same players that let him down over and over again. They won’t forgive the man who promised to be protagonists stepping into tomorrow with a negative approach.

Willian does not give you control.

Mo Elneney does not give you control.

Power, pace and hunger gives you control.

Time is earned as a coach. It is a reward for good performances. We tracked well for about 12 weeks. Now the wheels look like they’ve fallen off. If we’re heading out of the back end of this season bumming results, then it’s hard to say there’s been progress.

Winning the Europa League cannot be a plaster for a flailing manager. Performances need to be there, with these players, otherwise we’re heading for more misery. We’re not simply looking at the old guard of players dropping howlers now. Thomas Partey has gone from Rolls Royce to Ford Cortina. Cedric, an Arteta signing, cost us the other day. Bernd Leno has dropped his level. Gabriel has gone from world beater to embarrassment. These are on Arteta’s watch. It’s not good enough.

A good way to get performances is by reading the room and picking a squad that wants to be at the game tomorrow.

Lose to Sheffield United and we are in the Unai Emery death-spiral.

Let’s see what the coaching staff have got, I have very, very low hopes we’ll see something unpredictable. That’s a shame. Arteta has been the architecht of his own hill and he’s determined to walk up it slowly ready to end it with the Sword of Senior Deference.

Very meek.

Would take Lingard if it was feasible.. anyone?? West Ham is probably more attractive than Arsenal mind..

“He’s signed or extended almost all of these senior layers who are supposedly turning on him”

Or persuaded to stay.

He’s a dope isn’t he.

As was said earlier he has strengthened their positions and weakened his own in regards who is going to be shunted out of the club first.

WengerEagle

I don’t have much love for Bellerin but he’s hardly a top 3 get rid this summer, is he?

Ahead of Chambers, Kolasinac [incredibly is still on the books for another season] and Toreirra?

Dissenter

Can we reasons get a good fee for Bellerin?

I fear that all the stories about PSG and Barca being interested are just tripe.

WengerEagle

And Mavropanos has quietly had an impressive campaign at Stuttgart out on loan.

Would be criminal if we were to opt against giving him any sort of chance in the side and sell him on the cheap.

Ishola70

The senior players were always going to be the ones that turned on him of course.

And he prefered to play tough guy with the younger players because that is an easier option.

But tbf to Arteta it was probably a case of how many battles he thought he could take on with some senior players at one time. Not easy.

WengerEagle

Barca is nonsense because they paid good money for Dest who has had a good season.

PSG is plausible given how crap their full-backs are. Florenzi a Roma reject is their current best RB option, a converted one at that.

Would still be a little surprising though considering anyone with a bit of sense that has watched Bellerin for any length of time since his injury-return can tell that he’s lost pace and looks far off the player he was for his first couple of seasons for us.

We wouldn’t get much for him anyway.

Dissenter

Westham won the lottery with Soucek last summer.
I believe he cost them about £19 million with add-ons.
It’s give the hammers a balanced defensive/central midfielder duo. He interchanges with Rice so effortlessly and contributes goals.

Moray

Ishola, Arteta is learning a big rule of management. Which is, everyone is out to cover their own arse.

Unfortunately, he learnt it at Arsenal and we will be stuck with several old men on huge contracts, who think they are undroppable, despite being consistently shit.

Moray

Bellerin has a marketing and brand value above what he does on the pitch. I know it’s pathetic, but it will factor in to the price when we sell him.

WengerEagle

Moyes deserves manager of the season if he can sneak this West Ham side into Europe.

Incredible achievement given he hasn’t had a reliable goalscoring CF to work with as well.

WE

Always said Mav was a good defender. We have a very good group of centre back. Mari is my absolute favorite.

Luiz, Mari, Saliba, Mavro, Holding and Gabriel is a very good mix of defenders.

Dissenter

Regarding Jesse Lingard
When a player is the middle of a purple patch, it seems everything joes goes in for him.

Some of the goals is scoring are difficult to replicate in my opinion.
If United are smart, they will this crazy purple patch to swap him for Declan Rice to replace Pogba.

Chris

Got to hand it to Moyes when he had become a figure of fun in some areas of the British media, and has been much maligned throughout the latter part of his career. This is his level no doubt but he deserves respect for what he has done at West Ham since returning, probably a little bit of motivation from not keeping the job the first time around.

6 CB’s is still a lot but I suppose we could loan Saliba out another season and have 5 to work with.

Unfortunately I reckon we’ll sell Mavropanos because of the decision to buy Mari.

So are we convinced Brenda isn’t a bottler? This result stays and it leaves West Ham a point back, Chelsea 2, and Liverpool 4 behind them in 3rd.

Would be just the thing for Leicester to miss out on top 4 once again after spending the season amongst it.

WengerEagle

United would be mental to replace Pogba with Rice.

Former is leagues the better player.

Dissenter

Leicester have a pack of better teams chasing them down.
I wouldn’t put my money on them to not lose out.
Liverpool and Chelsea will make too 4, Westham and Leicester will miss out.

R.S.P.C.Arsenal

I’m not artetas biggest fan. But I back him 100 percent over this player rebellion .
I’m guessing it’s auba . Laca n xhara ..at the forefront prob Luiz.
Four players I would be happy if we lost this summer.
Play youth all team they are the ones who will listen n learn .

WengerEagle

Leicester’s remaining fixtures look pretty daunting compared to West Ham. Cannot really afford to lose this today.

Their last three matches of the season are Man United [a], Chelsea [a] and Tottenham [H].

Whereas West Ham’s all look extremely winnable besides Chelsea which is a home game for them.

Chris

Our of all the players some might want to shift, Bellerin may be one of the most realistic ones, given his profile and apparent firm interest from abroad.

However if he goes we have to consider if we would be happy to move forward with Cedric and or Chambers as our right back options. I am fine with either as squad options but full time first choice? Not so convinced.

Dissenter

Wenger Eagle
Are you sure you’re not understating Rice’s qualities
Pogba is the better player but he’s not done much at United and his drama, I fear my have gone too far.

Rice alongside Fernandes may be a better pairing than Fernandes-Pogba.

Arteta’s first mistake was changing the personnel and system after the first lockdown . Never change a winning side is the rule but Arteta decided to be clever( in his mind) and change the personnel and the system. Changing to the wing back system was a disaster despite the FA cup victory. The fa Cup success meant that Arteta had belief in this defensive set up and ultimately it destroyed our season and may cost him his job. We all know who were starters prior to lockdown, Eddie was our main striker ( 5 starts , 5 wins , 12… Read more »

I think Chambers has had a proper run at Arsenal
Like AMN, he’s surplus to requirements and we should stop all these experimentations at mediocrity.

Sell, Sell, Sell
What the point of trying to reinvent Chambers. He’s a central defender who’s excess baggage. He’s been at Arsenal now for 4-years?

Declan Rice is a quality midfielder and will only get better..

Champagne Charlie

Just so we’re clear, if Leicester don’t make CL that’s another bottle job from Brenda? I think it is..

Dissenter Rice looks a good player but I’m not convinced of his ceiling being particularly high yet. He’s been compared to Mount but for me Mount is a far better player. His fundamentals are very good and he has an excellent attitude/mentality but technically I’m not sure he’s particularly good. Pogba’s technical ability is outrageous, he beats players with ease which is the one thing that Bruno Fernandes struggles with as he lacks that bit of pace and guile to win one vs one battles. Rice-Fernandes on paper looks good but there’s no ball carrier there. Bit static against teams… Read more »

Weagle Bellerin rumoured to be off to PSG for 25 mil end of season. Makes sense to me, lesser league, manager will want a few PL players, he’s got the mentality to hack it at a top club if not the outright ability. Probably needs a change of scenery a bit like Lingard after a decade here. AMN, Willock, Chambers, Mavropanos, Kolasinac should all follow. Rice is DM/CM while Mount is more about ACM.

WengerEagle

Marko

I like Saliba too but given how this season has unfolded I cannot see him being a starter for us next season.

Mavropanos is also 3+ years older than him. He’s much more seasoned and ready to make an impact. Saliba is only 20 and very raw still, don’t see how loaning him out for another season would be a bad idea.

Arsenal midfield goal scorers since the start of the 2019/20 season…

Xhaka 2
Odegaard 1
Ozil 1
Torreira 1

The last Arsenal midfielder to score 5 league goals in a season, Mesut Ozil in 2018/19…

Ripped from Twitter.

Mount is an outrageous talent. About an 8 at everything he does.

shooting, finishing, dribbling/beating his man, passing, combination play, first touch, technique and of course athleticism, pace, strength, engine, reading of the game, movement, positioning, freekicks, corners.

Complete player tbh.

Rich

We should stay well clear of Lamptey

He’s been out since December with a hamstring injury, then had to have an operation, and won’t play again this season

That’s a big red flag for a player who’s all about pace, stamina, and needing to repeat the intensity of his sprints

Matty Cash at Villa looks like a really good player, or Max Aaron’s at Norwich

WengerEagle

It’s not a direct comparison Ishola.

More so on their ability to rise to the top in their respective positions. Mount looks exceptional, already one of the best players in the league and Chelsea best this season by a mile.

WengerEagle

Agree on Mount LG.

Genuinely have a selection headache on your hands for the summer with Sterling, Sancho, Foden, Grealish, Mount, Maddison, Rashford all competing for three attacking slots in behind Harry Kane.

I would probably have Rice and Mount as your deeper CM with Foden/Grealish as the CAM and Sancho and Sterling as the widemen.

Southgate seems very fond of Rashford though so he probably will get the nod over Sancho.

Wiglaf

Get over it, Pepe is a dud and the sooner we sell him the better. Charlie I don’t want to… Surely that makes it worse that Partey was supposedly so good for Atletico and not so great for us. Rich

I like Max Aaron’s, when I say Lamptey I mean players of that ilk aka under 22 and with a big ceiling. Think Cedric is a perfectly fine senior RB, and now we need a talent.

I don’t get the Hakimi thing. Personally feel we’re a long way off needing to spend 40 million on a RB. Need to rework the front 4 and bolster CM with that money before getting a sexy RB.

Dissenter

It seems Saka may miss out of the England Euros squad because he’s looking like he’s played one game too many at the tail end of the season.

It’s in Arsenal’s best interest that he get a good summer rest. I hope he doesn’t get picked as “alternate” to garner experience.

WengerEagle

Pope, Tripper, Maguire, Stones, Shaw, Rice, Mount, Grealish, Sancho, Sterling, Kane.

That side is as good as anyone in the Euros.

France and Portugal maybe edge it on experience.

Wiglaf

*Is a little inconsistent and smacks of double standards

into the red

Curious about Auba. I find it very hard to believe he has ‘flu’, given the almost total absence of the virus this winter because of the lockdowns. I expect he is saving him and Pepe for Thursday after their performance in the last ten minutes. But why give excuses for him not playing tonight? Or has he fallen out with the touchline dracula again?

Wiglaf

I mean for me personally, I’m fully aware foreign imports need a season, sometimes two to really find their feet.
I’m willing to give Partey that even as he approaches 28.
But I just find the double standards a bit perplexing

Ishola70

Well I said on here when Mount first broke into the Chelsea team that he looked the business but he went a bit erratic for a while which can happen with young players and then he started getting questioned but he came on stronger than ever before this season.

His body language when he first broke into the Chelsea team was the clue. Always positive along with the ability.

Talking of body language that Havertz is terrible in that respect. Like a young slug. He was awful again against Porto along with Werner the other week.

andy1886

WEagle, poor defence though which will catch us out. Maguire is a lump and Stones is still defensively suspect. Kane isn’t the same player internationally and Sterling on a bad day couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo.

english team is stacked with talent but its about how they play togther the chemistry. I don’t think Southgate has the sauce

Rich

Hakimi looks made for the PL

But could be another Bellerin

Bellerin was one of the most dynamic players around, but was on the slide before his injury

And without that dynamism, and extra yard of pace, he’s nowhere near the same player

Take away Hakimi’s or Lamptey’s turbos, and what are you left with?

You could make the same argument about Tierney, who’s absolutely electric, but we’re going to have to make sure we don’t break him as well

WengerEagle

andy Yeah perhaps. That’s the obvious weakness, soft at the heart of defence. Stones has looked great this season but largely because of Ruben Dias one suspects. Good thing is that you have so many options if Sterling is playing shit. You have Rashford, Foden, Sancho, could even slot in Grealish wide or Harvey Barnes. Portugal look very strong too. Spare me the economics and budgetary chatter, you haven’t a clue. It’s nothing to do with penny pinching, it’s everything to do with prioritising more important positions on the football pitch given a lack of monetary firepower

We aren’t Man City, or Chelsea. There won’t be 250 mil on new players. So of the modest money available you aren’t going to convince me that 40 million on a RB is going to move the needle as much as 40 million on an attacker or creator.

Rich

Buendia looks like a good player

But we don’t need another wide player?

We’ve already got Saka, Pepe, Willian, Nelson, Aubameyang, Martinelli
