REDZONE FEARS BUBBLING

by .

The year is 2021. The future is bleak, face masks and Purrell are the currency of the land. West Ham United are genuinely an excellent side.

Imagine these visions in 2018?

West Ham had a good run out against City, beating them for xG, but losing the game. It’s kind of brutal that TV isn’t aligned better between European football and the league. How can you have City playing the first game of the day after a Champions League run out? Truly brutal.

Arsenal and Leicester are in similar boats this Sunday. I mean, bar the fact Arsenal had to do two away legs in the Europa, with our home leg being further away. Again, why does it have to be the first game of the day? Every little helps. The competitions need better alignment.

The big watchword amongst Arsenal fans atm is ‘THE RED ZONE.’ This terminology was big on Le Grove in the early days. People didn’t think it existed when we were calling for Arsenal to get a S&C coach to fix the injuries (remember Wenger getting a witch doctor in to solve the issue?). Well, now people are very much accepting of sports science. The basic premise… when you are fatigued, you have a higher chance of soft tissue injury. The fancy GPS kit they use helps staff understand where a player is in terms of their limit. When you hit the RedZone, there’s a higher chance you could ping something.

The corollary that many of us are worried about is the breakthrough of Jack Wilshere, when Wenger played him 54 times and the player never recovered… and the breakthrough season of Bukayo Saka, with Arteta being unable to drop the teenager. This is Wilshere.

‘I remember having conversations with the physios in my first year in the Arsenal team. They were like: ‘Look, you’re playing a lot…’ I told them: ‘I want to play”

“I was living the dream. I was 19, playing for Arsenal. We were challenging for the league, in the Champions League. No one was going to tell me I needed a rest. That’s one of my biggest regrets – I wish I’d listened to physios a little more, learned more about my body”

It’s very worrying. Arteta is under pressure and playing for the short term. Keeping players fit and healthy during their development is a longterm thing. ‘The player said he wanted to play’ shouldn’t factor. If I child wants to eat a bonfire, you don’t let them, unless you are a weak leader.

This Sunday feels like one of those plotlines in a film.

‘Come on Bukayo, just one more time. Do it for the boys.’

The Leicester game is another Cup Final, not because we’re going to do anything in the league, but because this project needs a major scalp after a rough run of games. Killing Brendan Rodgers title run after he shithoused us earlier in the season would be totally dreamy. He needs Saka if he has a single hope of it.

The manager knows he’s tired, his response is that fatigue is part of the game. Wenger, Ferguson, Pep, and pretty much every manager out there would say the same… but there needs to be a balance. Unai Emery fucked his top 4 hopes when he overplayed Aaron Ramsey after he returned. That sort of marginal error can kill you.

The only temptation on offer is that after today, it’s a 5-day rest until we play Burnley, a game you’d hope we could rest him.

Then it’s straight back into the Europa mixer for a doubleheader against Olympiacos, which is conveniently wedged between Spurs and West Ham United. This next batch of games is where the money is made. 6 wins and the season is saved. If we have a horrendous run, pick up some injuries, and drop out of the Europa, it’ll be a bloodbath with the fans.

This is football. Glory or death. No in-between.

Loan watch is going well. William Saliba has managed 10 games in a row, he’s certainly answering fitness questions and his fanbase is growing. Also worth noting that Dino Mavrapanos is doing well. Lots of admiring glances for one of Sven’s bets. It’d be great if one of them slipped into the squad next season. Both young, both have high ceilings, both have resale value.

Short one today. Before I go. A couple of things.

This internet is a shithole. There are literally thousands of basement dwellers whose only power in life is being mean on the internet. These cowards sometimes pop up in my comments section. I’ve had people send me e-mails this year complaining about it. I am always happy to be alerted to bad actors. If I get the mail, I sort it, every time.

What I have to reiterate, over and over and over again, is this: I am just a part-time writer. I work a fulltime job dropping New York 70 hour weeks. Advertising is where I make my money, not this website. I make ZERO money from tweets, podcasts or blogs. I am also a left-leaning snowflake. If there is someone saying mean things in the comments, trust me, it’s not because I am down with those comments.

So when you email me. Please consider this is just a big hobby on a site that looks sleek, modern, and clean… built for a 2.0 world.

Finally, some exciting news. I’m going to be a contributor for The Gooner. Layth has kindly given me a little bit of space to drop thoughts. I’ve always loved the fanzine. The jokes, elite banter, gossip, and the sketch on the back of mag was always a treat when I’d go to the games with my dad and football fam back in the day. Fanzines were and are a massive part of the footballing experience, I’m glad it’s continuing, but it could always do with your support. Sign up here, it’s money well spent.

On that note, see you in the comments. I’ll be here with an On The Whistle Podcast tomorrow.

Leicester have been horrific. They really seem to miss Maddison. It shouldn’t take away from our high-energy, positive performance though

  2. Dissenter

Arteta doesn’t know how to manage a squad propery
Maybe that will come in his third season

Good result today but at 3-1, why not give Gabe a run in?
Has to be frustrating for back-ups in the squad.

  3. Dream10

Odegaard is a precise passer, but does not make the runs in behind that Smith Rowe does. Probably means Pépé/Aubameyang on the left will be on the menu for the next month.

  4. Gonsterous

    Martinelli, balogun, saliba, guendouzi.
It maybe safe to say, arteta does more harm than good to the club. All this is done because he’s looking to save his skin in the short run and isn’t interested in the long term vision for the club…

  5. China1

Bellerin will walk back into the first team and Martinelli is finished at arsenal.

You can make arguments for whether Martinelli should be first choice, second choice, third choice, whatever – but there is no serious argument for how he is such a low priority player so as to be a complete irrelevance. What’s happened is nothing to do with football and everything to do with arteta

Whether it’s a personal vendetta or what I’ve no idea but literally from the time Klopp and ronaldinho started talking up Martinelli arteta stepped in and sunk him like a stone

It’s shocking mismanagement of this player. If this was about footballing reasons he’d have loaned him out in Jan. A tone of clubs would’ve loved to take him. Instead he wants him wasting away with no football for his own personal satisfaction to show him who is boss or some other BS

  6. Dissenter

If you’re resting players and decide not to start them
What’s the point of subbing them in when the game is all but won… you did ‘t need them
    Let them rest

Give other players those opportunities to keep your squad happy.

Excellent performances by the starters, especially Willian by the way./

  7. Jamie

Outside the opening few minutes, we’ve dominated most of the play.

Credit where it’s due, Arteta got just about everything right. Pity Marti can’t buy some minutes when we’re 3-1 up, but we’ve won a game few thought we would a couple hours ago.

    Pretty thrilled, tbh. Great result.

  8. S Asoa

    China

Second that. Man is a perverse

  9. Kroenkephobe

Forget their goal – apart from that, practically nothing negative happened. We played beautifully and thoroughly deserved to win. Willian rekindled that essence of what made him a hero at Chelsea. A fantastic team performance in the circumstances.

    End of.

  10. Bob N16

All this criticism of Arteta on a day he rotated 6 players who have come in and done well, rested Saka and beaten the third placed team away.

Fucking whiners! All you can say is ‘what about Martinelli? ‘Unbelievable.

  11. China1

I actually think this auba substitution is not because arteta wanted to bring him on but literally just to send a message to Martinelli that he’s nothing to him

On what logical basis would you bring on auba when he must be knackered, the game is already won, we risk injuring him etc?

If you wanted to not bring on Martinelli for practical reasons at least you bring on a defensive player to close the game out like chambers. At least there’s an actual basis on which to make that decision

But bringing on auba in the 80th minute today was literally vindictive and I’m frankly disgusted because it’s now just so obvious that this is nothing to do with football

Arteta needs bringing down a peg

  12. Gonsterous

    Martinelli?

What about balogun, saliba, and guendouzi??

Arteta more interested in saving his arse than developing for the long term benefit of the club. When a manager never wears the colours of the club, you really have to question their commitment to the club or are they in just for the money?

  13. G8

    Good away win, decent performance
And no Vardy Steptoe customary goal
    Shame with Martinelle freezing!
    Arteta out!
    Come on Burnley!

  14. raptora

So why are we not getting performances like today’s on the regular? Thought our squad is shit. We bossed a Leicester at their stadium. How and why are they 12 pts ahead of us? How and why are West Ham 8 pts ahead of us?

Very good today. But far too inconsistent. We have the required quality of players to finish in top 6 and play in Europe next year. Rest is on Arteta.

  15. englandsbest

Brendan’s bubble has burst! (Is it me, or have Leicester become a sly mean bunch since his arrival?)

And for those on here who ought to know better: quit wailing and start believing.

  16. China1

Bob no I’m very happy with the overall performance and win. Lots of big positives today which I’ll take all day. But that doesn’t excuse the BS that comes with it

  17. raptora

Martinelli’s situation puts a dark spot on today’s game. Arteta is a dipshit and who wants to have a bad person as the manager of their favourite team…

  18. Leftside

Does Arteta have any daughters and have they liked any photos of Martinelli on IG?

Jheeze talk about petty. I’m not a fan of Eddie but what’s happened to him, Reiss? Balogun?

  19. Bob N16

China, it’s the lack of balance and perspective that grates. I would have preferred to see Martinelli get far more minutes in the last couple of months but the fact that he didn’t come on today is hardly worth piling on about. People have their narrative can become blinded to reality.

  20. Gooner_grower

    raptora

Martinelli’s situation puts a dark spot on today’s game. Arteta is a dipshit and who wants to have a bad person as the manager of their favourite team…

What would you say if Martinelli came back into the team in some time and starts performing excellently. I can almost guarantee that will happen. If Arteta had something against Martinelli, Martinelli won’t even be on the bench. He would be out of the team.

  21. S Asoa

” “Freudian slip eh old boy?”What was a Freudian Slip? ”
    Let start breaking it down.
Freudian is seeing a c–t in the crook of the elbow

Freudian slip is when you actually try to slip it in therein
    ,😂😂😝

  22. TheLegendaryDB10

    Really happy with win.

We played well and took advantage of Leicester.

Cedric and Xhaka have played well, and Willian has finally had his first good game with us. It took him the 2/3rds of a season.

I wonder if openly saying that he would have preferred to stay with Chelsea has made him realise the enormity of saying this.

My first reaction was, why did you not take the 2 years and stay? He made the decision to move as more money and the 3 yrs he wanted were on the table.

I am still being cautious as this could just be a one off from Willian.

  23. LittleG

Chuffed for the result but like pretty much everyone else (AKA Bob) don’t get the logic of not bringing on Martinelli. His pace would have been perfect given the game and the way Leicester were chasing. Just hope Arteta was positive about Pepe as he will be about Willian. Generally supportive of him but think he has an awful lot left to prove!

  24. MuddyGooner

A few nervy moments at the end but really happy with the outcome.
Wasn’t feeling confident with the line up but they proved me wrong with that display.
Please let the good form continue.

  25. TT

Just stop this fucking whining. Martinelly didn’t play because he is a junior striker at the club. Only in the minds of some Arsenal fans is he a world beater.

I don’t give a fuck what Ronaldo, Klopp or someone else has said. The Arsenal coaching staff see him on the training ground every day but ohh some ❄️ of fans think they know better than the trainer’s at the club. Fucking morons.

  26. Radio Raheem

Didn’t Martinelli give an interview some weeks ago that appeared to contradict Arteta’s on his fitness and readiness to play? 🙄

  27. Gooner_grower

I really feel happy about the result today and much more confident in Arteta, much more than I have been since recently. He got it right with Willian, with Pepe, I am sure he will get it right with Martinelli.

  28. S Asoa

” What would you say if Martinelli came back into the team in some time and starts performing excellently. I can almost guarantee that will happen. If Arteta had something against Martinelli, Martinelli won’t even be on the bench. He would be out of the team.”
Martinelli has proved himself. Lots have spoken glowing of him ,so keeping Martinelli out would be akin to Arteta stepping into his own shit. Arteta is not that dim

  29. Leftside

Pepe’s performance today and when he has been good has been in spite of Arteta, not because of Arteta. What is with this weird sycophantic love for Mikel, bang average player in a forgettable part in our history and even worse as a manager.

We played well got a good result but Arteta’s man management is abysmal. There was no need to bring on Auba today, we got away with it but on another day we may not. Posters are more than justified in their concerns about this egomaniac.

  30. TheLegendaryDB10

    Agree with China1.

When Arteta went all ballistic and publicly said that he would go on a witch hunt to reveal who was speaking up or whatever it was (I really can’t remember the backstory for some reason) clearly showed how vindictive a person Arteta is.

    A terrible trait to have.

I can only agree that there must be a reason why he is not playing Martinelli as it cannot be for footballing reasons.

When he did play, he put in more of an effort than Willian was.

  31. S Asoa

” I don’t give a fuck what Ronaldo, Klopp or someone else has said. The Arsenal coaching staff see him on the training ground every day but ohh some ❄️ of fans think they know better than the trainer’s at the club. Fucking morons. ”

    But wait
    Are we lemmings ?

Look at what happened to Ozil.

  33. China1

Asoa arteta has picked Bellerin and Willian for 90% of games this season despite both of them barely stringing a few games games together in a row all season

Arteta is more than capable of cutting off his nose to spite his face

  34. AFC Forever

Pedro was right. You chose to ignore his warnings about ‘red zone’ because you are divorced from the reality of football, you are fantasy football fans.

Well Arteta proved this morning’s moaners don’t understand football. He made the changes you all complained about pre-game when you insulted him, but he was right. Leicester didn’t & lost players to injury. The changes made us fresher and the tactical changes nullified Leicester who offered little. That was a superb performance. Arteta deserv s praise however much that hurts your egos.

Unfortunately, some of you are a disengenuous mob driven by an agenda, so you have to find something to bitch about. Now it’s fake outrage about Martinelli not playing or attacks about Pepe not playing previously.. You couldn’t make it up. Win 3-1 away to Leicester & you still moan, refusing to give Arteta credit!

If this result and performance has pissed you off, hang your head in shame. Fucking embarrassing if you are actually a Gooner & not one our regular trolls..

  35. LoveSausage

    Pedro – you called it.

It’s telling that the whingers in the comments can’t even enjoy a game like this. Instead they’re talking about Martinelli conspiracy theories and how Pepe is improving despite MA. The same people who wanted to crucify Pepe and were calling for MA to be sacked for giving him his chances. Pathetic.

  36. Mark

Listening to the Thick-le fans ( no mistake) talk about Gabriel. He’s a top defender! Better than Holding, Bellerin and Cedric.

Thing is you don’t write a player off after one or two mistakes during a game. Everyone makes mistakes during the game. He does far more good than bad. He’s a starter for me.

  37. Gooner_grower

    AFC Forever

If this result and performance has pissed you off, hang your head in shame.

so right, AFC, couldn’t agree more. It seems like all of Arteta’s bets are paying off

Listening to the Thick-le fans ( no mistake) talk about Gabriel. He’s a top defender! Better than Holding, Bellerin and Cedric.

I agree. Gabriel is a very good defender.

  39. S Asoa

How much is Arteta being paid for doing better than what fans been moaning about ?
Plus the cost of StatsDNA and an army of supporting staff !
Compliments to some fans being so far ahead and moaning , since only thing to do in Covid times

  40. Bergkamp63

7 of our 12 games left are against the bottom 6 & CP who are 8th bottom currently.

    The other 5 games are
    Liverpool H
    Chelsea H
    Spurs H
    Everton H
    West Ham A

All the teams around us and above us have to play each other.

It’s not over yet. It never was until the end of May.

  41. S23

Elated with that showing,Cedric is so much better than Hector,Willian had his best performance in an Arsenal shirt,Pepe was great, even after the first goal Mari looked decent.
What a difference to the usual Sunday routine of being pissed off all day.
Wish Arteta would say what he dislikes about Martinelli, though.
Am hoping we push on from this, but fear it could be the old adage a broken watch is right twice a day.

  42. Bleeding Guns

Fucking shameful from some on here. We just got through a tough tie and the most folk can think up is “where’s the sub for Gabe”. Stuff it already! Enjoy the blasted win! Kid’s still growing and your feelings don’t necessarily reflect his!

  43. AFC Forever

    Graham62

Yes. That was a bit more like the Willian Chelsea had. He’s such a talented player but he’s not seemed interested. Let’s hope he’s found his mojo.

  44. S Asoa

Spods are playing Poch game from memory looks like. Different from Mourinho bore-fest. Also back to high scores. Hopefully Mourinho will kick in and bury them

  45. China1

Also how can anyone act as tho artetas judgment is without question

He had this same group of players just above the relegation zone not long before Christmas. How good was his team selection then? A couple of months on and we can’t doubt his judgment because he sees the players in training apparently

Let’s forget Martinelli and if anyone can explain why arteta would bring on auba in those circumstances I will be extremely impressed considering:

    1) the game was already won
    2) auba has played a tonne of games lately and should obviously be rested
3 auba has been on good form and doesn’t need playing into form
    4) auba could get injured in this game which could dramatically impact our season
    5) we didn’t need to bring a CF on at all in terms of the game
    6) if you want to make a tactical sub surely then you bring on a defensive player like chambers or whoever to see it out?
    7) we have a few squad players not only Martinelli who could surely do with minutes for their development? If not Martinelli why not Eddie?

Again by all means celebrate the win – it was excellent – but this auba substitution was either monumentally dumb/bizarre or simply vindictive. Choose your poison

  46. vickingz

No one should come here and say that MA has improved pepe, how? By playing him on the right flank knowing he plays best on the left flank? Same way he’s improving martinelli, Esr, nelson, balogun and co? He’s desperately wanted willian to put in a decent performance so he could be shoehorned into the team at the detriment of whoever, same thing he’s done with ordegard to Esr’s detriment. Arteta is toxic, we ain’t winning not overly because the players are shit but because we have a coach who’s so egocentric and stubborn, he’s new to the power world and he’s presently being intoxicated. Arsenal football club, I stan.

  47. salparadisenyc

Very solid win with that level of rotation, another pull back after going down. Impressive. First goal mental, almost as if we wanted to them to score, another mistake punished too maximum.

All you can ask for after is big response and thats just what happened. Willian looking like Willian of old, Pepe caused many problems still think he goes down way too easy but it worked to effect today. Only big question on day is why no Martinelli?

    Lining up nicely for Spurs.

  48. AFC Forever

    Bleeding

“Fucking shameful from some on here. We just got through a tough tie and the most folk can think up is “where’s the sub for Gabe”

It’s immaturity. They came on before the game criticising the team selection because they think they know best. They can’t accept they could be wrong, it hurts too much. Dreadful fans.

  49. Pepesuave

Fucking shameful from some on here. We just got through a tough tie and the most folk can think up is “where’s the sub for Gabe”. Stuff it already! Enjoy the blasted win! Kid’s still growing and your feelings don’t necessarily reflect his!

Nobody is saying what you’re claiming, as you know. To come on here crying because Arteta did something great today shows you up mate. Why can’t you enjoy the win you cry baby?

  51. Mb

This might sounds over ambitious but we have comfortable matches coming our way.

Burnley A, West Ham A, Sheff United A, Fulham H, Everton H, Newcastle A, West Brom H, Crystal Palace A, Brighton H – all winnable!

Spurs H, Liverpool H, Chelsea A – tough but still winnable. Spurs’ a must no matter what, liverpool is in bad form and Chelsea can be beaten/drawn.

    10/12 wins – 67 points – should be enough for top 4.

  52. Bergkamp63

Only those who have nothing in life outside of this blog are the ones with a chip on their shoulder.

It’s not difficult to spot who they are !

  53. Bleeding Guns

I’d ask not to let your personal feelings about the coach get in the way of lauding a good team performance. We had some of our slackers put in a shift and win against a well coached outfit. Most don’t like Arteta, can’t wait to see him crash and burn. He’s on glass for all his decisions and honestly, I don’t blame fans for feeling that way. He’s certainly done little to assuage our fears on his game management skills. Can only think he sees a short-sighted need to establish his position through dubious decision making. Why bring on Auba at the end of the game? I don’t know, I’m not the coach. I don’t know a lad who works in the position either, but you won’t see me foaming at the mouth over a good result. Support the lads!

  54. Mb

    Bergkamp63

I might have missed it. Indeed it’s not over yet, top4 is achievable if we keep playing like today and a bit of luck.

  55. AFC Forever

After we let in that soft goal, we seemed to get better. Off the ball we was excellent today & whenever we won the ball back we broke quickly. We were much more aggressive & dangerous today.. Players who came in looked to prove a point which is what you want, there was no sulking.

  56. LoveSausage

    China1

I don’t see anyone saying that MAs judgement shouldn’t be questioned. I question it plenty. But there is a difference between questioning and constantly looking for proof to support your agenda against the guy. IMO, your Auba comment falls in that category. Was it a smart move by MA? Probably not. But you’re really making a meal out of it buddy.

  57. Chika

If Martinelli had come on, I swear people would have still found something else to moan about.

Never about the positives, always about squeezing out perceived negatives. Only a complete fool would conveniently believe Arteta has a personal vendetta against Martinelli.

Leicester are the last team you want to be 1-0 down to
We have to come out and they will exploit those gaps
    I’ve had enough of Arteta

    Yeah right !

  59. Words on a Blog

Great team performance after (another) shaky start.

Really enjoyed watching Pepe and (of all people!!) Willian slicing the Leicester defence apart.

Odegaard coming on nicely and settling into his role.

I thought Arteta got his selection and his tactics spot on.

Hopefully we now go on a decent run and that it’s not another false dawn.

  60. James wood.

I wish PEPE was a stone and a half heavier
gets knocked about to much but his quick
feet often get him out of trouble.
He still is our best option for a goal does not always
do the obvious but is not frightened to do something different
    when it comes of great.?
We still look like a team of strangers far to often safe ball
    is the way .?
Good win against a injury hit team.

  61. The Godfather

Dunno why some of you are bring ostriches.
    Arteta is a buzz kill.
Bringing on Auba was sheer stupidity.
There was no reason for it when you have a young gun chomping
    at the bit to play.
Call it like it is: the man is clueless both for the short term and long term.

    Saka
    Martinelli
    Guendo
    Balo
    Smith Rowe
    Tierney
    Gabriel
    Saliba

In those young guns, we have a very solid future if a proper coach
    can harness and mould them.

That one we currently have ain’t fit for purpose .

  62. Jamie

“I never get tired of being right”

Don 3 hours ago: Arteta out.

Don 10 mins ago: This is the blueprint.

  63. China1

    AFC learn to read

I’m complaining because of a ridiculous substitution not because of the win. The win was excellent and even most of our dross (Willian and xhaka included) played well (bar xhaka for their goal

You seem to be incapable of differentiating between a good team performance and an obvious problem that arteta has – these are not mutually exclusive. He can oversee a good win and do some dumb shit, as we saw today.

  64. Freddie Ljungberg

Was sceptical about that line up like everyone else but it paid off, Willian actually had a good game and Pepe was great, don’t think it matters too much whether he plays on the left or right, more important is who is surrounding him and getting a run of games.

Cedric needs to start at RB from now on.

Seems like maybe Arteta has finally learned now that he doesn’t have to cram all his favourites/highest paid players in at the same time. Play one of Auba or Laca, not both, play one of Ode or ESR not both unless we go 433 with a fit Partey behind them.

Too bad he didn’t come to these conclusions much earlier in the season or our position in the table could have looked much better, we’re not as bad as 10th.

Even though Willian was good today he still shouldn’t be getting minutes ahead of Pepe ever, unless he needs a rest and that’s been happening all season to the detriment of the team.

Would really like to see more of Martinelli too, just hope he doesn’t lose faith when he can’t get a look in.

Terrible defending from Mari for the Leicester goal btw, hope Gabriel and Holding are back as the first choice pair asap.

If it bothers you so much ignore the whingers.

Likewise ignore those whinging about whingers.

And I’ll take my advice too 😀

Happy with our win vs a Leicester City who have always been a tough customer to face.

I think rotating was effectively the key to our win. It was very Arsenalesque to see Leicester players dropping like flies with injuries.

And I am going to have to say it again: Willian really surprised me today. I was really thinking he was going to give us another “I don’t give a shit” performance. He did the exact opposite and pulled his finger out of his arse and helped us win. That free kick that led to Luiz’s headed goal was a beauty. I do hope that he gets his act together and moves on from the fact that he has left Chelsea. He never was a bad player.

The usual gobshites on here depressed because Arsenal won !
Arteta pissed all over Rodgers today with half his team missing .

The only people who are belittling the club are those accepting the mediocre state of arsenal hanging around mid table and calling other fans “entitled”!!
The only people who belittling the club are those who could find any excuse to spare Arteta from any blame despite all the shitty results
Supporting the club dosnt mean you have to indulge yourself sucking Arteta’s balls, I mean sauce!

I didnt realise it had been so long since we beat Leicester away in the league. I’m sure we beat them in the League Cup earlier this season though or was that last.

After the City farrago, you posited the idea that Arsenal would/could win their next two games. I was sceptical but you were right. Really pleasing to be here after last weekend which was desperate. Most pleasingly, today’s game suggests that we actually have depth in the squad.

Would be intriguing to know the real backstory on Willian ie how well he trains and what led to that performance. Leicester were certainly a lot less energetic than usual perhaps allowing him more time.

Cue the usual suspects claiming they are right, everyone else is wrong, everything Arteta touches turns to gold and complaining about how everyone else chooses to support the club. Would be nowhere to be seen had we lost.

Everyone on here is happier than we would have been had we lost the game. You’re no better a fan than anyone else.

Bale with his second goal. The Spuds are going to be an even bigger challenge in 2 weeks time.

And I wouldn’t be surprised to see Maureen play both Kane and Bale like he is today.

We better be on our A game. That game away vs Olympiakos is not going to help us.

I will be curious to see how MA handles both games as they are both equally important.

Pleased with willians and pepes fight they showed today

Still think there are the usual indecisiveness with Pepe which was demonstrated in our 3rd goal. He should have worked a position and shot. As it was his pass was into such a tight area where ode flicked to willian and his shot/cross was deflected to Pepe

But good team performance and I think Pepe can push on a little bit more

Where is our on the whistle piece ?????

70 hours a week is just part time tbh lol

Congrats on your slot in the gooner also. I’ve been reading this blog when Geoff use to run it and it’s always been too class including the transition to you running the show

The points I took from today’s game was

1)Early on , too much down the left , as soon as we atracked more on the right , thing’s started to happen.

    2) Mari should be a nailed on starter.

    3) why doesn’t ” clear and obvious” mistake apply to when Arsenal get a pen…twice in 3 games VAR have overturned an Arsenal pen that was mot “clear an obvious”

    4) why did the ref give the drop ball to leicester when we had possession of the ball in the Leicester penalty area when a player went down with a head injury…

    5) why are Arsenal players going down holding their heads when they haven’t been touched , except for heading a ball..
Embarrassing or what , Tierny ,Luiz and xhaka were guilty of this .
Surely we don’t have to resort to such behaviour to win a game of football.

    6) much better from Willian , not brilliant but his confidence is growing ,which is only good for Arsenal football club.

“ Everyone on here is happier than we would have been had we lost the game.”

Isn’t that the point of being a fan ?
