I think we have to reserve judgement on Mari, but we all saw once thing even in his brief cameo. Given that Saliba is not going to be a feature this season, we are left with Luiz, Mari, Chambers, Holding, Sokratis and Mustafi as Centre back options along with Gabriel.

That said, I think Auba should be doing better. Early doors though, long season, plenty of time to regain some form etc.

We were between a rock and a hard place with Auba. It was always going to take huge money to make him stay and with that sort of contract there is always the risk that complacency sets in. On the flip side, when you have a player who has consistently scored 25 + goals, how can you let that player go, particularly when the goals from elsewhere are few and far between. Unless we were signing a Haangaland or the like, most people on here would have said what the hell are we doing.
