Welcome Rúnar

by .

A very quick post from me today because I have just finished up a pitch and I have zero mental strength to give.

Arsenal signed Icelandic keeper, Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson from Dijon. He’s been given the number 13 which would indicate to me he’ll be the number two this season. I can’t say I’ve been thrilled by his numbers. I’m no expert, but conceding two a game with the second-lowest save percentage in the league doesn’t exactly reek of sauce… but, we’re living in a world where Mustafi was our most important defender this year. So we’ll see.

I’ve seen a few people saying that the keeping coach making these reccos is doing what Raul did with players. Big fat NO here. Our keeping coach is an actual expert. His rep is on the line with this signing, so you’d expect if he’s going big on this name, there’s something we don’t know about… or he just likes handsome blonde boys?

He’d better be good. No one likes to see their majestic ex save a penalty on his debut and keep a clean sheet. MISS YOU EMI.

Arsenal head to Leicester in our first cup game of the year. I’m surprised they kept the tournament going this season if I’m honest. Is the schedule not beastly enough? I have no idea how Mikel is going to treat it. Does he do a Jose and gun for it? Or does he treat it like Arsene would… give it to the kids to shine. I think we’d all love it if we went the junior route with a bit of experience. It’d be nice to see Balogun, even if he is going. Patino, Azeez, Saliba, Kido Taylor-Hart, Ozil… plenty of potential that could excite.

The main thing I’d like to come away with is a win, then ZERO injuries. It’d also be nice to see a performance after our clunky 90 against West Ham.

Dave Ornstein reaffirmed our intention to sign both Aouar and Partey. It feels a long way off right now, but these things can rapidly change as you know. He also confirmed what I’ve been telling you for a while, Reiss could be loaned (I was told sold).

A clunky old week. I am tired. Need to beer. See you tomorrow. xxx

Is Eddie on the pitch?

Vickingz

Almighty lenoooooooo

Luteo Guenreira

I hold my breath every time Kola looks for a back pass to the keeper.

Vickingz

The great lenooooooo

GunnerDNA

“HI anyone have a stream that is good for the game?”

$40.00 for the year subscription for ESPN+ and you asking for stream?

Buzzy

Surely they can at least put a televeision on the sidelines so the ref can review it..we should be ahead and deservedly too

Luteo Guenreira

OH look at this guy with his forty dollars. Fancy aren’t you

Useroz

WTF. Leno like duck up and knocked out Luiz.

Is EMI on the bench??

Habesha Gooner

Leno needs to communicate with his back line. Probably why he fumbles the ball when catching.

Vickingz

Leno at his age is still making secondary school goalkeeper’s mistakes

Champagne charlie

The Kolasinac and Holding combo doing wonders again with looking after the football.

Nelson

Luiz injures his neck again. All Leon’s fault.

Bojangles

Dna

Ít not jút the money

MidwestGun

Nah Luiz is fine.. you can’t hurt somebody with a soul patch by a simple elbow to the ear hole.

Radio Raheem

Leno certainly commanded that area.

Nelson

Save by the post.

MidwestGun

Saved by the post.

MidwestGun

Indeed. hahaha

Luteo Guenreira

Leno so good he knew the ball would bounce right off the post into his hands, no need to move.

Vickingz

Leno is just an accident waiting to happen

G8

How’s that leno’s fault? He shouted and luiz ducked his head and got caught on the neck
Seriously people!

Steveyg87

Very scrappy game as you would expect. Besides being able to put in a pass, I can’t see what Elneny brings to the table

TheLegendaryDB10

That post did a better job than Leno!!!! 😀 😉

Habesha Gooner

we need to play long and go again I. the 2nd half.

Steveyg87

Willock in danger of being hooked off at half time

London gunner

What’s everyone’s playing ratings so far is pepe having a great game?

Can’t watch the match right now

G8

Midfield sucks as usual, no composure no creativity and no energy.

MidwestGun

I don’t know about all the player ratings but Saka has been our best player. The rest pretty average.

karim

The ref’s a joke

Nelson

Pepe didn’t do shit. Saka is our best player. Reiss Nelson is not bad.

Trask

Some bang average players out there. Asides from Saka and maybe Nketiah(at a stretch), I don’t see any of the Hale end making it in premier league football

How ridiculous has AMN been

Dude is gash

Useroz

Given a choice, wouldn’t keep anyone other than Saka, Luiz, AMN.

A completely nothing midfield.

No wonder media talking a Nelson loan. Should be sold. Same as Willock.

Where’s Eddie??

Pepe is a worry. AFC won’t recover half of the £72m …

Jamie

Decent 1st half performance from the lads facing a team higher up the elite power rankings.

Useroz

Yeah. Sell the ref too.

Champagne charlie

London

Average across the board. Look useless down the right hand side, the left has been where all dangerous actions have come. Centrally is industry > quality. Most issues we’ve faced have been our own sloppiness.

Saka and Nelson combining a couple of times and look the more penetrating. No on the Pepe masterclass, that ones still brewing.

Tom

Saka stands out, Pepe devoid of any confidence not helped by players around failing to make the right pass when he’s open.

MidwestGun

Too Bad Martinelli.. is injured. This game is screaming out for a direct player with a eye for goal.. That’s why Saka has been good. Martinelli in combo would have been really good.

Radio Raheem

Elneny has done what the position he’s playing demands. He has looked assured.

Low bar but this is the best I’ve seen Nelson play for the senior side.

Saka and Elneny decent performances.

Leftside

Pepe really needs midfielders who can pick him out

Nelson

Of our front three, Reiss had 3 shots on goal, two on target. Both Pepe and Eddie have zero shot on goal.

Useroz

Leno can trademark his punches. Punching his own defenders that is. Same thing in the West Ham game. Shocking.

How could people not bringing up the EMI. It’d become an enigma. Too bad.

Tom

Leno continues to struggle catching high balls. Great save with his legs early on but the ball he dropped while steamrolling Luiz was never really in his gloves.

Radio Raheem

Pepe should have taken Willock’s reverse pass on his right first time. Best moment of the first half.

MD-Gunner

Don’t care much for the competition but it tells us what kind of squad we have and it is definitely shitty and pitiful with the exception of Saka. Have to close my eyes every time Kola or Holding get the ball. AMN is perfect in giving the ball away. And again we are perfecting the U shaped playing pattern and having zip creativity on the pitch and bench. Don’t tell me among those duds Ozil and Guenduzzi can’t find a place. There is something else the reason why they are not in the squad besides fitness and playing ability because… Read more »

TheLegendaryDB10

Average first half. That first 29 mins were dreadful but got back in the game.

After that it was meh.

Midfield issues the same. But but when you got a back passing/ sideways passing machine in Elneny and a very average player in Willock, we are not going to go very far.

I totally agree that best players so far are Saka and Luiz. (And the goal post. :D)

TheLegendaryDB10

29 mins should be 10 mins….

Leftfootcurler

Arsenal played well, just lacked passing quality and composure.

Willock is a weird player. He is a CM who doesn’t like the ball. Should offer himself as a passing option to his team mates rather than going on runs.

Saka, Nketiah and Pepe are there to make runs.

Encouraging from Pepe.
He doesn’t play because his off the ball movement and positioning is like that of an 18 year old.

But he has shown small improvements in this game.

Tom

“How could people not bringing up the EMI.”
Gee, I don’t know, maybe because he’s sold and not coming back.

Pepe should have taken Willock’s reverse pass on his right first time. Best moment of the first half.

That and Nelson’s strike that nearly found net.

azed

Right now Guendozi >>>> Willock.

We are a cup team and going by our last two displays top 4 is looking like a mirage.

Danny

Has Eddie touched the ball yet?

Nelson

That’s part of the problem. Pepe plays right wing but can’t shoot with his right foot.

Leftside

The best thing I can say about Willock is he is extremely fortunate that Arteta seems to find him useful.

Nelson

Eddie can’t hold up play at all!

andy1886

Just a reminder that AMN is better on the left than the right. With Cedric a crock (and not that great from what we’ve seen) perhaps the sell Bellerin mob might realise that we’d just have to buy a replacement anyway.

MD-Gunner

We should get paid to watch those clowns romping on the pitch. Madison will do us in even though as soon as he gets the ball several Arsenal players surround him.

Jay

Eddie nikita is a championship striker, why fans so crazy about him? as for willock he’s not gonna make it at arsenal.

Marc

andy

“Just a reminder that AMN is better on the left than the right.”

Well as we have Saka and Tierney who should be options in front of AMN for LB or LWB where does AMN fit into the pecking order?

London gunner

Cheers charlie

So worrying how our second team the quality takes a massive nose dive.

An injury to tierney and auba and we are a mid table side.

karim

“Lucas (Torreira) still training with arsenal but from what i talk with him, his arrival to atletico madrid is inminent” Mario Rebollo, asistant in uruguay NT

MD-Gunner

I can see this going to penalty shoot out and then the Emi vs. Leno debate will heat up.

salparadisenyc

Maddison just dropped a beauty of a 9 iron there, nearly to the cup.

Jay

Eddie nikita, willock, Nelson all should be sold, you would be lying if you think they are going to make it at arsenal.

Marc

London

I like Tierney but our issue with him has been injuries to other CB’s and Gabriel / Saliba not being ready to start meaning Kolas is picked. Having Tierney and Saka as options for LB or LWB is good enough for us right now. It’s other positions I’m worried about.

Nelson

Pepe was wide open and Willock didn’t see him.

Champagne charlie

London

Agree, I think our first XI quality is issue enough, when you look at the class below it’s all competence and industry versus any standout quality.

Good ground zero to start from in that sense, but we’re crying out for some panache moving forward. Individual quality is thin on the ground, makes Pepe’s lack of consistency and invention all the more prevalent given how much we sunk into him to provide just that.

Tom

This is what I mean Pepe open on the edge of the box doesn’t get the ball, instead his teammate takes a speculative shot into crowd on his weaker foot.

Useroz

Well said Jay. Throw in Elneny for free.

MidwestGun

Both Gray and Maddison shoot like they are trying to hit it into the Mezzanine level. Lucky for us I guess.

Luteo Guenreira

Pepe has a tendency to kill a lot of attacks in the final third.

Jamie

Pepe just isn’t cutting it at the moment. Damn shame. Not sure if it’s a confidence issue, or just not an elite talent like I had hoped.

MidwestGun

Think I short changed Nelson … a bit.. he has been pretty good other then one bad shot. But he is making things happen at least.

Useroz

Poor Pepe. Stuck with his left peg and wasted a great cut back or crossing opportunity

salparadisenyc

Luteo,

Incredibly one footed, if he can’t get it on the left foot it curtains.

Vickingz

Pepe isn’t just our player, we can’t play with him. None of our players can pick him out when he makes runs, they are better playing safe by passing to the back than passing forward

Useroz

Eddie shot first time. Opportunity doesn’t wait.

MidwestGun

High pressure almost paid off.

Buzzy

Great job Pepe!

Nelson

Eddie took too long to shoot!!!

Vickingz

Pepe oo

Useroz

1 up. Lucky.

salparadisenyc

Love Le Grove… Pepe nearly scores with his right foot. loool.

Champagne charlie

I’d like to see Nelson get a valuable loan which will give him a good 20 starts in the prem, there’s a player in there. Only 20 still

azed

Goal!!

Nelson

At least Pepe gets the ball in.

Jamie

Lovely! Ugly loveliness.

Quick revision of the power rankings please.

MidwestGun

Nice… OG!!. Leicester are Fuched so to speak.

Vickingz

Useless nelson, super useless

Luteo Guenreira

I’ll fucking take it! Hold on to the lead and two more bets come through. Other games already hit.

Useroz

Pepe has one positive. Attracts 2 or 3 defenders and make them deliver an OG!!

MD-Gunner

Forgot we have a secret weapon our best player “Owngoal”

Nelson

Again help by the post!!!

Jamie

Vickingz, how long you been a Leicester supporter? This must hurt.

TheLegendaryDB10

Nice pressure from Pepe… he could have passed it but I will gladly take that OG.

Habesha Gooner

I don’t want us to give up on Nelson. You can see there is a player in there.

Useroz

Can’t Pepe and Saka swap to mix it up??

Buzzy

Eleneny may never set the world alight but he always does a decent enough job to keep things steady

Marc

Pepe scares opposition players – in the game away at the Scousers last season VVD really didn’t look comfortable against him.

Arteta has to find a way to use this to our advantage.

Useroz

Pepe can dance and all but needs an outcome or else slows our attack a lot.

salparadisenyc

Was that a Fuchs OG or Pepe’s?
