A very quick post from me today because I have just finished up a pitch and I have zero mental strength to give.
Arsenal signed Icelandic keeper, Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson from Dijon. He’s been given the number 13 which would indicate to me he’ll be the number two this season. I can’t say I’ve been thrilled by his numbers. I’m no expert, but conceding two a game with the second-lowest save percentage in the league doesn’t exactly reek of sauce… but, we’re living in a world where Mustafi was our most important defender this year. So we’ll see.
I’ve seen a few people saying that the keeping coach making these reccos is doing what Raul did with players. Big fat NO here. Our keeping coach is an actual expert. His rep is on the line with this signing, so you’d expect if he’s going big on this name, there’s something we don’t know about… or he just likes handsome blonde boys?
He’d better be good. No one likes to see their majestic ex save a penalty on his debut and keep a clean sheet. MISS YOU EMI.
Arsenal head to Leicester in our first cup game of the year. I’m surprised they kept the tournament going this season if I’m honest. Is the schedule not beastly enough? I have no idea how Mikel is going to treat it. Does he do a Jose and gun for it? Or does he treat it like Arsene would… give it to the kids to shine. I think we’d all love it if we went the junior route with a bit of experience. It’d be nice to see Balogun, even if he is going. Patino, Azeez, Saliba, Kido Taylor-Hart, Ozil… plenty of potential that could excite.
The main thing I’d like to come away with is a win, then ZERO injuries. It’d also be nice to see a performance after our clunky 90 against West Ham.
Dave Ornstein reaffirmed our intention to sign both Aouar and Partey. It feels a long way off right now, but these things can rapidly change as you know. He also confirmed what I’ve been telling you for a while, Reiss could be loaned (I was told sold).

Average across the board. Look useless down the right hand side, the left has been where all dangerous actions have come. Centrally is industry > quality. Most issues we’ve faced have been our own sloppiness.
Saka and Nelson combining a couple of times and look the more penetrating. No on the Pepe masterclass, that ones still brewing.
Saka stands out, Pepe devoid of any confidence not helped by players around failing to make the right pass when he’s open.
Too Bad Martinelli.. is injured. This game is screaming out for a direct player with a eye for goal.. That’s why Saka has been good. Martinelli in combo would have been really good.
Elneny has done what the position he’s playing demands. He has looked assured.
Low bar but this is the best I’ve seen Nelson play for the senior side.

Of our front three, Reiss had 3 shots on goal, two on target. Both Pepe and Eddie have zero shot on goal.
Leno can trademark his punches. Punching his own defenders that is. Same thing in the West Ham game. Shocking.
How could people not bringing up the EMI. It’d become an enigma. Too bad.
Leno continues to struggle catching high balls. Great save with his legs early on but the ball he dropped while steamrolling Luiz was never really in his gloves.
Pepe should have taken Willock’s reverse pass on his right first time. Best moment of the first half.
Don’t care much for the competition but it tells us what kind of squad we have and it is definitely shitty and pitiful with the exception of Saka. Have to close my eyes every time Kola or Holding get the ball. AMN is perfect in giving the ball away. Average first half. That first 29 mins were dreadful but got back in the game.
After that it was meh.
Midfield issues the same. But but when you got a back passing/ sideways passing machine in Elneny and a very average player in Willock, we are not going to go very far.
I totally agree that best players so far are Saka and Luiz. (And the goal post. :D)

Arsenal played well,just lacked passing quality and composure.
Willock is a weird player. He is a CM who doesn’t like the ball. Should offer himself as a passing option to his team mates rather than going on runs.
Saka, Nketiah and Pepe are there to make runs.

He doesn’t play because his off the ball movement and positioning is like that of an 18 year old.
But he has shown small improvements in this game.

That’s part of the problem. Pepe plays right wing but can’t shoot with his right foot.
The best thing I can say about Willock is he is extremely fortunate that Arteta seems to find him useful.

Just a reminder that AMN is better on the left than the right. With Cedric a crock (and not that great from what we’ve seen) perhaps the sell Bellerin mob might realise that we’d just have to buy a replacement anyway.

I like Tierney but our issue with him has been injuries to other CB’s and Gabriel / Saliba not being ready to start meaning Kolas is picked. Having Tierney and Saka as options for LB or LWB is good enough for us right now. It’s other positions I’m worried about.

Agree, I think our first XI quality is issue enough, when you look at the class below it’s all competence and industry versus any standout quality.
Good ground zero to start from in that sense, but we’re crying out for some panache moving forward. Individual quality is thin on the ground, makes Pepe’s lack of consistency and invention all the more prevalent given how much we sunk into him to provide just that.
This is what I mean Pepe open on the edge of the box doesn’t get the ball, instead his teammate takes a speculative shot into crowd on his weaker foot.

Pepe isn’t just our player, we can’t play with him. None of our players can pick him out when he makes runs, they are better playing safe by passing to the back than passing forward

Pepe scares opposition players – in the game away at the Scousers last season VVD really didn’t look comfortable against him.
Arteta has to find a way to use this to our advantage.
