Welcome Rúnar

by .

A very quick post from me today because I have just finished up a pitch and I have zero mental strength to give.

Arsenal signed Icelandic keeper, Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson from Dijon. He’s been given the number 13 which would indicate to me he’ll be the number two this season. I can’t say I’ve been thrilled by his numbers. I’m no expert, but conceding two a game with the second-lowest save percentage in the league doesn’t exactly reek of sauce… but, we’re living in a world where Mustafi was our most important defender this year. So we’ll see.

I’ve seen a few people saying that the keeping coach making these reccos is doing what Raul did with players. Big fat NO here. Our keeping coach is an actual expert. His rep is on the line with this signing, so you’d expect if he’s going big on this name, there’s something we don’t know about… or he just likes handsome blonde boys?

He’d better be good. No one likes to see their majestic ex save a penalty on his debut and keep a clean sheet. MISS YOU EMI.

Arsenal head to Leicester in our first cup game of the year. I’m surprised they kept the tournament going this season if I’m honest. Is the schedule not beastly enough? I have no idea how Mikel is going to treat it. Does he do a Jose and gun for it? Or does he treat it like Arsene would… give it to the kids to shine. I think we’d all love it if we went the junior route with a bit of experience. It’d be nice to see Balogun, even if he is going. Patino, Azeez, Saliba, Kido Taylor-Hart, Ozil… plenty of potential that could excite.

The main thing I’d like to come away with is a win, then ZERO injuries. It’d also be nice to see a performance after our clunky 90 against West Ham.

Dave Ornstein reaffirmed our intention to sign both Aouar and Partey. It feels a long way off right now, but these things can rapidly change as you know. He also confirmed what I’ve been telling you for a while, Reiss could be loaned (I was told sold).

A clunky old week. I am tired. Need to beer. See you tomorrow. xxx

I’m I the only one who has noticed that Willock usually completely ignores pepe? It’s not this game only the guy never passed to him,I saw him try a completely useless shot with his weak foot and Pepe was just free

  2. Bamford10

    Tom

“Rodgers making 11 changes definitely didn’t work out, shocking.”

It’s almost as if he is more focused on the PL and Europe.

  3. Pierre

    MD -gunner ….

“We should get paid to watch those clowns romping on the pitch. Madison will do us in even though as soon as he gets the ball several Arsenal players surround him.”

“Willock is useless missed opportunities several times to pass to Pepe. God knows we need help.”

“Well escaped barely, what happened to the first touch of Eddie when he received the ball from Hector?”

“Finally one less player to worry with Willock going off.”

“The only good thing from this game there is at least one B-Team that is worst then ours and we are still a shitty N-Team.”

“Well escaped barely, what happened to the first touch of Eddie when he received the ball from Hector”

Obviously someone who has something against our academy players.

  4. Leftside

    Daniel Altos

Yes, thats one of my problems with Willock. For someone who isn’t a goalscorer at this level by any stretch of the imagination he sure goes for goal a lot when safer bets are in a better position. Such a nothing player.

  5. Bamford10

    Charlie

“The notion Leicester have a better squad than us looking a little baseless as our second string beats theirs in 2nd gear.”

Their first XI is better than ours, and that’s the more important thing when it comes to the league. If you think you’re right and I’m wrong, though, Charlie, let’s put some money on the line. I have Venmo now, and I’d love to take some money from you.

  6. Emiratesstroller

Lessons to be learned from tonight’s game.

1.Ozil and Guendouzi have no future at Arsenal. The message is loud and clear.
2.Torreira and Sokratis are definitely leaving in this transfer window.
3.Saliba is not deemed ready to play in first team.
4.Arteta wanted to win the game as economically as possible, but without taking risk with certain strategic players eg Aubameyang, Lacazette, Xhaka and Tierney.

  7. Henry+Root

Nketiah.. Not good enough.. All he does is score goals and work hard

Tell me this is a joke. Hard t9 believe sometimes this is a pro- Arsenal blog it is so critical of the players

  8. Bamford10

    London

“Not watching the match but the consensus on nelson seems 50/50 on the blog.”

Nelson has pace but not that much quality and his final ball is shocking. I don’t see him becoming much, personally.

  9. Champagne charlie

No way, Banford has swooped in after a comfortable win against one of the sides he touts as better than us offering excuses for THEM and looking to negotiate a wager?

    Never saw that coming.

Give us the power rankings and some odds bookie bam bam.

  10. Pierre

It has to be this from G

“Nketiah.. Not good enough.. All he does is score goals and work hard”

And then to cap it all, Cmansf comes out in agreement with
    “haha precisely..”

  11. Bamford10

    Leftside

OK, give me a moment to think about it. I have to decide if I want to make the wager now or on October 5th. If we end up making it now, we may have to add some proviso for the fact that the window is still open for another twelve days. Let me think about it a little.

Just to get the conversation started, though: how many points do you think Arsenal will finish above Leicester?

  12. London gunner

Pepe isn’t half the play sanchez was. Sanchez was a phenomenal player for us i think people forget that.

Pepe hasn’t done a fraction. Pepe hasn’t had a solid 45 minutes yet let alone 90 minutes. He has a few minutes of quality but he doesn’t have quality over multiple matches let alone multiple minutes

  13. Pierre

    Stroller
“Lessons to be learned from tonight’s game
.1.Ozil and Guendouzi have no future at Arsenal.”

    No….really …I would never have guessed ..

  14. Marc

“Lessons to be learned from tonight’s game.

1.Ozil and Guendouzi have no future at Arsenal. The message is loud and clear.”

Whilst that may be true when it comes to the playing side of the club unfortunately Ozil will still be drawing a salary for another 8 or so months. Crazy to have a player earning so much who looks like he won’t play so much as a minute for club this season.

  15. Emiratesstroller

    Pierre

The point is that the message is loud and clear to the players, their agents and every other club on the planet.

Ozil is probably not bothered so long as he gets his pay cheque and no doubt will sign a
lucrative contract in January with club in Turkey or USA.

Guendouzi on the other hand should be concerned for his future. No-one has been exactly
    jumping to recruit him.

  16. Champagne charlie

    Dissenter

You really need to refrain from being such a fanny. Daggers drawn for him? He thinks Leicester have a better squad than us and our squads just went head to head at their place and we waltzed to an easy win.

Fucking daggers? What a drama queen you are.

  17. Marc

“Guendouzi on the other hand should be concerned for his future. No-one has been exactly
    jumping to recruit him.2

You do have to wonder how much of a shock that’s been to Guendozi – if as has been reported he wants out to the point of putting in a transfer request you’d think his agent would have an offer to two in the pipeline.

  18. Red Army

    Banford

We made 7 changes. Almost like we’re concentrating on the league and Europe too.

We’re making top 4 this season as is. You can quote me on that.

Just under 2 weeks til the end of the window we’re 100% getting some additional quality in.

  19. Cmansf

    @Pierre

It has to be this from G“Nketiah.. Not good enough.. All he does is score goals and work hard”And then to cap it all, Cmansf comes out in agreement with

    “haha precisely..”

I believe the original comment by G was taking the piss out of other posters criticising Eddie. My post was in support of his humour.

If you go back a few posts more you’ll see me defend him tonight.

Don’t be so quick to draw pistols.

  20. Tom

    LG
Nobody forgets what Sanchez was like when he first started for us and no one is comparing Pepe to Sanchez either.
What I’m saying though is that Pepe needs to be on the ball more often because, if nothing else, he attracts double and triple teams a lot.
No doubt he hasn’t justified his price tag or even wages but people getting on his ass every time he loses possession isn’t gonna help.

  21. Marko

“Nketiah.. Not good enough.. All he does is score goals and work hard”

Surprisingly it went straight over Pierre’s head

  22. Red Army

Jamie come on now. A whole 4 games he’s back in and you know you want to admit Mo-radona is vastly improved from before!

  23. Tom

“We’re making top 4 this season as is. You can quote me on that.“

Red army sounds suspiciously with his predictions like Un used to.
    Probably a coincidence lol

  24. Leftside

Bam you didn’t state these stipulations when you offered the original wager so don’t worry about it.

I do wonder why you continually come here to bleet about how poor we are and every team has superior options. We’ve seen you banned for it time and time again, you refuse to learn the lesson.

  25. Marko

Thanks for the advice. I know what I am doing, though.

Of course you know what you’re doing you’re coming on straight after a game we won making bets on how teams will finish above us.

Like I’ve said before bam you are not an Arsenal fan. At all.

  26. Leftside

And what fan openly tries to bet against the team he claims to support?! I have a strong disdain for a lot of AFC “fans”.

I can’t even argue when other team fans call a large chunk of our fanbase cretins.

  27. Leftside

‘Like I’ve said before bam you are not an Arsenal fan. At all.‘

Not a chance in hell. I took him up on his stupid bet and he was ooming and aar-ing too.

  28. Henry+Root

OK, give me a moment to think about it. I have to decide if I want to make the wager now or on October 5th. If we end up making it now, we may have to add some proviso for the fact that the window is still open for another twelve days. Let me think about it a little.Just to get the conversation started, though: how many points do you think Arsenal will finish above Leicester?

This is a so- called Arsenal supporter writing about his side? Hard to credit . He triumphs in Arsenal failing and is disappointed when the team succeeds. It’s pathetic, sad and nauseating

  29. Bamford10

    Charlie

A squad is 22 players, not 11. You can argue that our second 11 just beat theirs, but you can’t argue that our “squad” just beat theirs.

Further, Rodgers went exclusively with second-XI players, at least until the 72nd minute. Arteta started Luiz, who is first XI, Saka, who is more or less first-XI, and Pepe who we spent 72m pounds on.

Finally, we didn’t “waltz” to anything.

But this is all beside the point, because what matters in the league is the quality of your first XI / first 14.

  30. Paulinho

Hopefully tonight serves as a reminder (for those fine with the idea) of the disaster that AMN would be as right back if Bellerin left. Never does anything going forward despite all the ‘more comfortable on the ball’ spiel.

  31. Marc

“Further, Rodgers went exclusively with second-XI players,”

Well that just show’s that Rogers is a twat – Leicester are a decent team but they are not making top 4. A EL place and maybe a decent cup run is their level. The Poooooooooooooooch had delusions of where the Spud’s were and never took the domestic cups seriously enough and when was the last time the Spud’s won something?

  32. Bamford10

    Marko

I couldn’t care less what you or any of these other super-fans think. Yes, I have a curious relationship with, and attitude towards, Arsenal Football Club — one that is very different from the conventional fan — but I am very much an Arsenal fan.

Who cares, though? What does it matter that my approach to things is different from yours? It doesn’t. We’re here to talk about Arsenal and about football. And no offense to some of the super-fans who can’t wrap their heads around my attitude towards the team or club, but I see this club and this team a lot more clearly than a lot of them do, and I have done so for some time.

    Cheers.

  33. Pierre

I will go against the grain here and say I was impressed with our performance tonight .
Leicester put out a decent side Gray , Maddison, Albrighton , Fuchs ,iheanacho, Morgan all started.

The young lads are maturing well and always seem to get a decent result for the club , whether its europa , fa cup or league cup .

Elneny and Luiz were excellent tonight

AMN was very poor on possession, his passing was woeful.
When he is too relaxed his game suffers.

Eddie is a goalscorer so will always score goals , to say he does nothing else in the game but work hard shows a lack of understanding of the game I’m afraid.

Pepe is playing without confidence and looks scared to take any risks with the ball
..he looks a shadow of the player he was when he first arrived playing away at liverpool…..we need the Pepe that caused Liverpool all sorts of problems that day..

4 wins on the bounce this season , winning is a nice habit.

  34. Marc

“AMN was very poor on possession, his passing was woeful.
When he is too relaxed his game suffers.”

Agree 100% but I think it’s his default position. We really should be looking to sell him.

  35. Graham62

    B10.

Can I have a wager when you’ll get binned again?

Then can I make another wager on who, amongst your many friends and colleagues, you’ll get to come on here and post a cringeworthy explanation/excuse, on your behalf, even though we all know it’s really you in disguise.

  36. Leftside

Being banned more than once over the last year for continually peddling the same story, the last time sinking to a new low of creating an alter ego called Dariano. Even if Dariano is real, he is also pathetic to come on here and relay your pathetic messages. Talking about wagers and then backing out.

Bamford you are deservedly the butt of every joke. Don’t go slandering Legrove when you get put on a timeout again.

  37. Dissenter

    CC
It just seems that many see Bamford as a piñata to be toyed with. He makes one comment and it’s like a beehive is stirred.
Maybe I should have written AK-47s out for him.
From one fanny to the fanny-in-chief.

  38. Luteo Guenreira

“Yes, I have a curious relationship with, and attitude towards, Arsenal Football Club”

How you feel about things certainly doesn’t matter in the grand scheme. But complaining about how people respond to you here when you already know this fact about your fandom, is like you being a gay dude at a straight club trying to talk to everyone about great balls are, and when someone tells you this is not the place, you try to get the bouncer to kick that guy out.

  39. Tom

“I’m I the only one who has noticed that Willock usually completely ignores pepe? It’s not this game only the guy never passed to him,I saw him try a completely useless shot with his weak foot and Pepe was just free”

    DA
I think there’s something going on behind the scene with Pepe and the rest of the squad.
Just look at Eddie’s reaction when the ball ends up in the Leicester net after Pepe’s cross and the subsequent rebound. Eddie actually remonstrated as if dissatisfied with Pepe’s effort while the fucking ball was in the net.

  40. Moe

No way Leicester, United and Wolves all finish above Arsenal, that’s wishful thinking and not rooted in reality. Infact, I fancy Arsenal finishing above all those 3 teams if Partey is bought. United are poor, their play at the end of last season was a penalty-filled fluke

  41. Pedro

Bamford on here defending Rodgers after Arteta changes 7 of his ‘poverty’ squad and comfortbaly beats him.

GunnerDNA complaining about the football despite our 7th domestic cup victory in a row.

Too many are in love with their first view. Embarrassing to read.

  42. GunnerDNA

Bamford you’re the goat, you surely know how to get this place rocking. If you get ban they will talk about you like you’re still here, that shows your opinions matter. It’s hilarious seeing them going at you because of difference in opinions. As the game finished dude was taking shots at you to get a reaction, that can’t be healthy 🤦🏽‍♂️😀

  43. GunnerDNA

    Pedro,

“GunnerDNA complaining about the football despite our 7th domestic cup victory in a row”

You was the same fan who was having a mental breakdown down when Emery went on a 22 games unbeaten run with the same type of football we’re witnessing now. I noticed you suddenly don’t know how to blog about numbers anymore because it doesn’t fit your agenda. It’s ok not to be right but it takes a real one to keep it 💯, something that you’re unable to do. We in two different lanes bro! I’m talking about what I’m witnessing on the field, no other crush on this side.

  44. Champagne charlie

    Dissenter

If you have strong views that leave Arsenal wavering in favour of others then you’re inviting backlash from actual Arsenal fans. Kind of the most basic of norms in football fan culture.

Banford pokes his neck out on behalf of seemingly everyone except Arsenal FC, so when an example disproving his recently published list of power rankings surfaces you’ll find many ready to drop a cursory grin.

Sorry if that offends your delicate self.

  45. Pedro

    GunnerDNA,

2 trophies. 7 cup wins on the bounce. Better defending. Better attacking. 6 points from 6 in the league. Improved culture. Fans loving the new regime.

Not sure which numbers you’re missing?

My observations on Emery were seen through with vicious accuracy.

  46. Champagne charlie

Pete, you see the clip that aired on BeiN where it’s alleged we’re close to a deal for Aouar in the next 48hrs on a 5-year deal?

It’s the biggest reach yet so naturally I’m all in and I’m going to use it as gospel.

  47. salparadisenyc

    Pepe ineffective again.

Ability clearly there whether he can tap it at Arsenal is another question. Seems to be all about confidence for him, reminds me of Anelka in that respect.

For me what makes him good the crafty technique, he can’t bottle. It’s an inconsistent mixture most of the time, add in he’s so very dependant on left foot to take on any shot in the box or ball movement when pressure mounts makes him quite easy to mark out. Floats around holding up play when we’re screaming to go at pace, doesn’t seem at all connected to game as its happening. Which may relate to the potential for players not wanting to engage with him as others have illustrated.

Have to fear for his Arsenal days if Arteta has his way, as of now he’s a £72m transfer in thats a 2nd choice winger struggling in the opening rounds of league cup on his second season. Hard to find confidence in that with additional burden of price tag.

  48. Champagne charlie

    Sal

Yea, wasn’t his best, and you wonder with every game like that what the future holds for him. Imagine Arteta will be hanging out his car window deadline day looking for a deal round London. If it’s good enough for ‘Arry

  49. China1

I will take that win all day, but Pedro it’s true that when we were winning game after game ugly under emery it was all about the poor xG

Under arteta you’ve barely mentioned it

For the record I couldn’t give a toss about xg and find winning ugly a satisfying alternative to what we saw so many times in the past – failing beautifully

  50. Champagne charlie

    Sal

Same, saw a guy claim we’re close to deals for Partey and Aouar, and that we’re also bringing in Zaha and Edouard before the window shuts.

That’s my kind of ITK, I’ll take him over Fab Rom.

  51. Marko

Yes, I have a curious relationship with, and attitude towards, Arsenal Football Club — one that is very different from the conventional fan

You think you’re so special bamford.

But anyway on to more important things Pedro stop with this two trophies nonsense the charity shield isn’t a trophy at all. It wasn’t for Wenger it’s not for Mikel.

  52. China1

Wolves are not finishing above us this season

We had an absolutely shocking season went through various managers and still ended up only 3 points behind them. They only got 59 points which is not a good tally, we just were so bad that it was more than us.

Even with no additional signings we could have a solid chance of high 60s to low 70s. Assuming we make one or two good signings you can probably had a handful more.

Wolves are not doing that, they just benefited from us having a trash season

  53. Leedsgunner

    Bamford,

As for your favourite football team we all know it’s Bamford AFC all the way… 😉😉😉

By the way the “A” stands for Association and not American…

  54. Tee

“I hope Suarez bites Ramos’s ear off.
    I hate the fool”

The days of Dracula are far behind.

Besides, Ramos is not the type that can be messed around with, else he will knock off Dracula’s front teeth

  55. SP

Pepe is simply not worth 72m. Better sell him back to France for 30-40m. It will help in generating funds for Partey and Aourar.

  56. Guns of SF

Pepe is on borrowed time. Ive been cautiously optimistic but it seems with our new mids, he will find it really hard to get time. I do not like his game personally. He forces the one on ones and most times loses the ball. I do think he does better in a free role to roam midfield. Him hugging the sideline is too hard for him, and the lack of the right foot does not help.

    A 30M player if that.

He really needs to show Arteta something to warrant any time

  57. Bojangles

“Arsenal stand a stronger chance of landing Thomas Partey than Houssem Aouar, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.”

  58. Receding Hairline

Good win but calling it a comfortable win is stretching it. We have lost the xG battle last two games, it used to be a big deal here back in the days but times have changed.

Marko Arteta himself talks about the trophies he has won with this players, its actually funny because the shield has never been a trophy but again times have changed.

  59. Receding Hairline

Arsenal fans need to get over Ozil, the club has made a decision and rather than sending out cryptic tweets Ozil should be negotiating on a deal that sees him move to play. This sitting on your ass drawing a wage without playing thing really exposes his lazy character.

  60. Receding Hairline

Pepe won’t make it as a winger in the PL. Lacks the composure and too one footed.

He will however make a very good CF. Down the middle. He has the pace and defenders hate playing against him. He is not a midget either. Back in Wenger’s day he would be playing CF, that’s if he was ever purchased for such a ridiculous sum which is highly unlikely.

  61. Pierre

    RH
“Good win but calling it a comfortable win is stretching it. We have lost the xG battle last two games,”

It was comfortable, and would have been even more comfortable if the ref had given us a certain penalty in the first half.

They hit the post and missed a header, other than that …nothing
    .
We scored 2 , were denied a penalty, had a header off the line and Nelson had a couple of chances first half.

Maybe this XG thing includes shots from 25 yards that go into row z.

  62. Pierre

Pepe was given little credit on here for the first goal.

He showed good strength and pace to beat the 2 defenders in front of him to get his shot away.

Maybe he should drop his shoulder to go to the right more.

As I said last night, we need the Pepe who looked lightning fast and skilful in his first game for us away att liverpool.
He has totally lost his confidence and is afraid to take risks with the ball..

  63. Pierre

    SP
“Pepe is simply not worth 72m. Better sell him back to France for 30-40m. It will help in generating funds for Partey and Aourar.”

If we sell him for 30m we would have to give the money to his former club plus the other 20 odd million we still owe them .

There would be no.money to generate funds.

  64. Steveyg87

Pepe, for such a talented player. needs to trust his skills more. He literally is the full package, speed, excellent dribbler, great shot on him. He just needs to be a bit more aggressive and he could reach Robben heights

  65. TT

Reading through some of the comments here it sounds that we not only lost last night but got humiliated on top of it.

And Pepe is not a bad footballer. He was just over priced and not what we need. Not his fault.

  66. Receding Hairline

Pierre you are preaching to the choir, I don’t care about xG, it’s not a stat I place any stock in,I bring it up to take the piss.

The quality of football though concerns me, not so much yesterday as that was the whatever cup and effectively a B side, but in the long run when we do move to become a more expansive team

  67. Valentin

    RH,

Everybody assumed that because Arteta was Pep’s assistant, he would want to play the same brand of football. Maybe Arteta style of football is more conservative than anticipated.

I have no doubt that he want to be more expensive than we currently are, because right now we are winning ugly but also with difficulty. However I am not sure that we will ever see the wengaball or Pep majestic tiki-taka under Arteta. He seems to a too pragmatic for that.

  68. Jamie

    Red –

“Jamie come on now. A whole 4 games he’s back in and you know you want to admit Mo-radona is vastly improved from before!”

Mo-radona, I like it. Not trying to be argumentative, but I really don’t see it. I think I’ve been fairly consistent in my view of how Elneny plays. Wish I could find a comment I dropped about him not long after we signed him, but one from August 2019 is the best I could do:

“I was a fan of early Elneny too. He always seemed to make himself available for a pass and tended to recycle the ball quickly.”

Said the same shit about him this season too. And I genuinely can’t see what else he’s added to his game. He’s a useful squad player, but I really think we can do better in midfield than Elneny.

If I’m wrong and he’s a mainstay in the starting 11 mid-season, come back and give it to me with both barrels. Fair is fair.

In the end, I just want Arsenal to win football matches regardless of who’s in the matchday squad.

In other news, Bamford is back making wagers. Unreal.

  69. Captain Tierney

‘They hit the post and missed a header, other than that …nothing
    .’

Two 1v1s saved by Leno in the first 5 minutes.
But ofc its Leno so we shouldn’t even count them as chances as otherwise we’d have to appreciate Leno which is just wrong.
    Am I right?

  70. James wood.

Perhaps Pedro should have in his rule book for posters
made it clear that trying to make bets with other posters
breached the rules and was a red card.
Bamford 10 Has consistently disrupted the forum for as long
    as he has posted.
    Pedro has banned him.
Pedro has seemed fit to bring him back
    WHY? I ask myself.
He is a complete Anti Arsenal poster and that in my
and by the looks of it a lots of other posters should be
another three strikes and out ban???????

  71. Pierre

    CT
“Two 1v1s saved by Leno in the first 5 minutes.
But ofc its Leno so we shouldn’t even count them as chances as otherwise we’d have to appreciate Leno which is just wrong.
    Am I right?”

Why are you getting your knickers in a twist over nothing .

I missed the first 10 minutes and just watched it back, and yes there was one save( the other was offside ) ..

So ok , if it makes you feel better Leicester had one shot on goal that Leno saved….a very easy and quiet night for Leno .

We wont mention his little mistakes last night, will we.

  72. Captain Tierney

‘So ok , if it makes you feel better Leicester had one shot on goal that Leno saved….a very easy and quiet night for Leno .’

    LOL.
Leicester had 15 shots to our 11. And I cant find shots on goal stats but pretty sure it was more than 3.

Peeps here get horny when Emi catches a ball.

And turn their blind eyes when Leno makes a game looks easy. But when Emi does that he is heralded as a warhero.

I’m not against Emi never was, just pointing out the hypocrisy here.

Jamie not bothered about giving you both barrels but just the acceptance that Mo-radona is a viable SQUAD option now that he’s vastly improved and his confidence is sky high (in my eyes).

Do I want him as first XI? No.
Do I want Auoar and/or Partey? Fuck yes.
Would I trust Mo to do a job if our first choice CMs are injured/suspended for a game or two? I do this season.

    According to bbc

    Leicester had 15 shots ( 10 into row z)
    2 ( TWO) on target
    1 corner
    49% possession

    Arsenal
    10 shots
4 on target ( one headed off the line)
    7 corners
    51 % possession
    And a penalty denied .

And Receding seems to think we had a lower XG than Leicester…

I’m not sure how he worked that one out

Then apart from the ‘vastly improved’ part, we’re in agreement. He’s essentially still a squad player in both our eyes, can do a job when called upon, but we’d benefit from a ‘better’ midfielder.

For me, he’s doing (by and large) what he’s always done – pass and move, pass and move. I just feel (and have always felt) that his passing isn’t nearly as progressive as we need it to be if we’re to be a CL club competing at the highest level.

Still, if Arteta can make him a better player, I’m all for it. Just don’t think it happened in the year he was coached by Abdullah Avcı then Sergen Yalçın in Turkey.

Thanks for the advice. I know what I am doing, though.
