‘I want to $tay and fight for my place’

by .

A slow news day yesterday, so we’ll get through the blog nice and quick so you can go for that morning jog.

Chelsea looked fairly pony against a well-coached Brighton side. They came out 3-1 victors, but I don’t think they were worthy of the win. Frank’s side looked fairly lethargic, the football was slow, and his mega signing Kai Havertz looked, well, not £80m worth of talent. They’ll get better… but I’m happy to be a knee-jerk reactor right now. RUBBISH. Liverpool will make mincemeat of them if they play like that on Sunday.

Wolves dealt with Sheffield United inside two minutes. They’ve spent some money this window, so expect them to be a menace this season. It’ll be interesting to see if Chris Wilder can keep the magic going in season two. It’ll be even more interesting to see if Nuno can move Wolves closer to the top 4 he’s striving for.

On the transfer front, things seemed to nudge along a smidge.

The hottest rumour is that we’ll be signing the Icelandic keeper who played for Dijon last season and dropped the second-worst save record in the league. Inaki likes him and apparently coached him back in the day. Hopefully, there’s some data that backs the decision to go here, but look, I’ll take it over spending half the Martinez fee on Brentford’s keeper.

There’s been a lot of Torreira smoke. The fee ranges from about £21m to £24m. Some are calling it a 2 season loan. Others are saying cash upfront. Hopefully, if the deal is sealed, it’s enough for the financial powers that be to release the funds for Houssem Aouar. The Morrocan magician is in the squad for Lyon’s game against Montpellier, so at least he’s getting fit.

Matteo G has rejected a move to Villareal. I cannot understand why?

According to Nick Ames, Kolasinac has decided to stay and fight for his place. We’ve been here before. That means no one has been able to match his massive salary demands, so he’s going to see out the final year of his deal. A bit of a blow. He’s not up to it at Arsenal and it would have been nice to send him packing to Germany, but here we are. Don’t give average players massive deals is the learning.

West Ham, in a total mess, is offering Arsenal £5m for a year of Rob Holding. That does not seem like it’s about the happen if Arteta’s noises about the centre back are to be believed… but, we do have about 10 centre backs we could offer instead? Karen, let’s talk!

There really isn’t much else to talk about, so I’ll leave it there. See you tomorrow.

West Ham really are a shower of shit. Wouldn’t be unhappy to see them and miserable old git Moyes drop back to their true level back in the Championship. Hope we can help them on their way.

  2. Emiratesstroller

I have just posted on previous thread details about how Arsenal will need to be compliant with 25 registration rule particularly in view of Kolasinac statement.

    1. Arsenal have currently 32 first team players on the books so that on paper 7 cannot be registered.

    2. However 2 players Martinelli and Chambers are unlikely to be fit to play until January next year and do not need to be included. Down to 30.

    3. Sokratis and Torreira are leaving in this window. I am not including Martinez because he
will need to be replaced. Down to 28.

    4. Macey the third string goalkeeper is also expected to leave. He does not need to be replaced as we have perfectly adequate gks in U23 squad to fulfil that role.27

    5. Smith-Rowe who is currently in first team squad is also likely to go out on loan as he has
    not been allocated number.26

    6. So the current state of play is that we need only offload one more player. However, that is
probably not the case because there are still others in squad who are Home Grown and U21
who do not need to be registered.

    7. The hard facts are that the club’s need to offload players is because they are deadwood or
unwanted and the club because of the financial situation needs to reduce wage bill. My personal view is that the players who should still be offloaded are Mustafi, Kolasinac,
Guendouzi and Ozil. Realistically none of these players is wanted or needed.

  3. Habesha Gooner

Doesn’t this smell like contacts scouting? A player that wasn’t backed up by any data because Inaki recommended him?

Don’t get me wrong I like signing a backup keeper this cheap so we can go full throttle at midfield. But I just wanted to point out the agenda, You were saying some things about Cedric soares, Who is a backup, a free signing, an experienced premier league and Portugese international. Cedric was as sensible as this signing.

And Kolasinac still has two years left if I am not wrong. We will be stuck with him if we can’t move him on this summer. We should have Sold AMN to raise funds.

  4. Major_Jeneral

Good post Pedro. How do I reach you via email. I have some questions regarding podcast. Thank you.

Is the sporting gijon keeper the only keeper Arsenal is looking at. You mentioned Torino is in for Torreira in the podcast. I hope the cash is upfront so we have finance for our transfer plans.

  5. CG

This young handsome Icelandic goalkeeper Arsenal have signed, does have a touch of the Jordan Pickfords about him.

Lets hope ,he is not called upon too soon , and at least until he has climatised.

I am predicting an Arsenal title tilt this season by default ( potentally we could be the worst English Champions since Howards Wilkinson Leeds United – but we will take for now ) but I just have this constant nagging feeling, selling Martinez will be something all who sanctiomed it , will regret.

An injury to Leno at any time.- and all the great work Arteta has done and my 80-1 will be in tatters.

  6. Carts

    A few things:

    – Kola being on £100k+ p/w is predicated on that fact he was a free transfer signing. It reads a bit nuts just saying “his wages are massive”. Like in most cases, I think he’ll leave and we’ll simply subsidies a portion of his wages for a while.

    – Chelsea weren’t great. Don’t care enough for Havertz’s performance as I’m sure he’ll come good. RLC, though…he is fucking pony. He was so disappointing last night. He’s actually looking like a massively overrated player.

  7. Sid

Diet Pep vs Moyes his mentor who will triumph, one thing is for sure it will be a borefest and the will draw

    You heard it here 1st!

Lampard fielding a newly assembled team 1st game of season and beats Brighton 3-1,
what result did diet Pep get in a similar game?

Back ti you in the studio

  8. Jamie

    Sid,

Who would you have preferred we hired as manager instead of Arteta?

Seems like he hasn’t done enough to convince you we’re heading in the right direction..

  9. Rosapirescastle

It would be great if Westham would take Mustafi off our hand s he would be the finest for them.
I was surprised a palace or west ham were t in for pape Sokratis , he’s a Trojan horse mad for defensive work and be a great addition to any team like that for 2 years.
Him and Gary Cahill be decent pairing for palace or alongside obganna at ham. Ok not ball playing cbs but they certainty be throwing there body’s online in a relegation scrap.

Fuck it we could do with Kola off the weekly wage even if he’s wages were 1 quarter paid by us anything to lighten the load.
Guendouzi has it all to prove if he keeps turning down other teams will need to produce for us.
It’s a shame as scent playa but far above his station.
Maybe Monaco might come in for him if they don’t resign Bayoko

He is okay not exceptional, Viera is at his level and beats him for being a legend, hasenhuttl, bielsa better as a coaches,
but his fanboys push the narrative that he is the 2nd coming

  11. Marc

” Liverpool will make mincemeat of them if they play like that on Sunday.”

Liverpool weren’t great on Saturday and only won due to a dubious penalty, they seemed to have carried over a “casualness” in their defence from post lock down. When you consider that it was their defence that was seen as being the missing piece that they’d fixed which enabled them to go on and win the title it could make for a season that isn’t quite as clear cut as the media would have you believe.

  12. Guns of Brixton

Viera is at his level and beats him for being a legend, hasenhuttl, bielsa better as a coaches,
but his fanboys push the narrative that he is the 2nd comings

Fact you pulled in Vieria in there is telling.

Pushing the narrative based on clear observable evidence which we ‘ve seen since his started back in December. You have to be blind or very biased to say what his done hasn’t been positive and has taken us up a level

Its as if some of us are afraid to be be optimistic cos we ‘ve been burnt so much 😂

  13. Tom

‘Lampard fielding a newly assembled team 1st game of season and beats Brighton 3-1,
what result did diet Pep get in a similar game?’

Reverse the situation with Arteta spending 200m on new talent and getting a lucky win against Brighton,
and you would’ve been saying Arteta got outplayed by a lowly Brighton after spending a quarter of million.
    Lol

  14. Graham62

Reason #50/why Wenger won’t ever be coming back.

    Sid

Do you honestly think PV4 would have done a better job based on the circumstances?

Come on, be serious for once.

  15. Valentin

    Ustyno,

Despite my doubt about his character, I would still buy Aouar, because he is extremely talented. But I hope that Arteta had a strong call with him to make sure that he is aware of his non-negotiables. Make him realise that despite his talent he may need 6 months to fully acclimate to the EPL and that therefore he may spend some time on the bench.

As one of his objective is to be in the French squad for next summer Euro, it would be a shame if by January disappointed not to be an automatic starter and afraid for his place in the national team he started to act like a petulant kid.

I still think that he will test Arteta man management skill.

I just wonder where Arteta intend to play him. He started as 6~8, but he was so talented at dribbling and creating opening (Fekir was injured a lot Aouar break-out season so Lyon did not have anybody in the No10 role) that he was then moved to some left side No10.

For Arsenal he could play as a left sided attacker, but we are already well stocked in that department with Saka and Willian able to play there instead of Aubameyang.
He could play as a pure No10, but that would mean changing formation.
Or he could revert to a No6~8 and be an upgrade on Xhaka/Ceballos.

  16. Bamford10

    Shad

Good comment yesterday on Elneny and Xhaka. I agree with much of what you said there. Elneny is tidy and energetic and good in small spaces, but he cannot make the kind of 20-yard, 30-yard, 40-yard passes that change the point of attack or change a game, and he has no reliable shot or dead-ball delivery to speak of. Although Xhaka has his deficiencies, he can do the above, he has the above. For me, Xhaka’s lack of quickness and mobility keeps him from being a genuine top four quality player, but I see what you mean about why he is ultimately a level above a player like Elneny (even an improved, confident Elneny). Cheers.

  17. Jamie

    Fair enough, Sid.

Vieira is a legend, no doubt. Not sure he’s necessarily a better coach than Arteta at this point, but yeah, I love him too.

I really think Arteta has it though. Embrace the new era!

  18. Valentin

Grealish signing a new 5 years contract at Aston Villa should quell all the rumours of his departure for at least 1 day.

  19. Bamford10

I think it’s useful to see (in clear terms) what we might look like under various scenarios this season. Below, for example, are three iterations of what we might look like if we add Aouar (but not Partey) and remain in the 3-4-3.

    BASIC
    _____________Leno
    ____Holding__Gabriel__Tierney
    Bell_____Aouar_____Xhaka____AMN
    ___Willian_____Laca______Auba

    LUIZ RETURNS
    _____________Leno
    ____Holding___Luiz___Gabriel
    Bell_____Aouar_____Xhaka____Tierney
    ___Willian_____Laca______Auba

    SALIBA COMES ALONG
    _____________Leno
    _____Saliba___Luiz___Gabriel
    Bell_____Aouar_____Xhaka____Tierney
    ___Willian_____Laca______Auba

Whether we switch to 4-3-3 will depend on whether Arteta finds a CB pairing he is comfortable with, I think, and it isn’t clear which pairing that would be or whether that will actually occur. But if and when it does, it might allow us to look like any of the below:

    WITH AOUAR
    _____________Leno
    Bell______Luiz____Gabriel___Tierney
    ________Xhaka____Ceballos
    _____________Aouar
    Willian__________Laca________Auba

    WITH A PARTEY
    _____________Leno
    Bell______Luiz____Gabriel___Tierney
    ________Xhaka____Partey
    ____________Ceballos
    Willian__________Laca________Auba

WITH A PARTEY (& WILLIAN AS CAM)
    _____________Leno
    Bell______Luiz____Gabriel___Tierney
    ________Xhaka____Partey
    ____________Willian
    Pepe__________Laca________Auba

Which is best and why? Where will said team finish and why?

  20. Leftfootcurler

    Valentin

Yes. Aouar is not a creative player yet.
He is primarily a 6-8 hybrid.

He can be potentially great in the final third. He will have to learn under Arteta. He is definitely no holy grail to our creativity issues.

As of now, He can break midfield lines with his dribbling, which can create a sort of counter attacking situation which Auba and Willian can exploit.

  21. CG

    Sidney

“””but his fanboys push the narrative that he is the 2nd coming”””””

    Fanboys or not.

For a Spaniard, Arteta , is remarkably clever,

He has quickly devised a ‘low risk- high reward’ strategy.
Arsenal have beaten Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Wolves in recent times. And done it without taking hardly any risks whatsover.

By all my algorithms , we are on for hitting 77+ points. They have to be in serious contention for the top prize.

  22. Tom

    Sid
    Arsenal vs Brighton stats:
    Possession – 59% to 41%
    Shots – 13 to 9
    Passes – 475 to 321

    Chelsea vs Brighton
    Possession- 47% to 53%
    Shots – 10 to 13
    Passes – 465 to 507

As for the “newly assembled Chelsea “part, Lampard fielded two new players , so hardly a reshuffle.
I don’t remember you saying anything about Arteta beating Fulham with a newly assembled Arsenal squad.when he used two new players.

In short , you’re full of shit, and I’m telling you this for free.

Chelsea have a lot of good players, obviously, but last night indicated to me that it is going to take some time for Frank to figure out what his best XI is and to get then playing at their optimum. They’re going to be a lot to deal with when they get to that point, but I don’t know how long that is going to take, and given Liverpool, City and United already know how they want to look and play, I think those three have an advantage over Chelsea. I see those four finishing top four (in some order) but I can see Chelsea finishing 4th simply because they’ll spend some portion of the season figuring things out. We will see.

  25. Marc

There is one thing to consider with Kolas and his “I want to stay and fight for my place” declaration. There were plenty of rumours about his wife wanting to go back to Germany and apparently there was interest from a couple of clubs in Germany. We all know Kolas isn’t going to match his current wage but he might be playing a game with Arsenal, if we’re asking for a fee it will reduce his potential earnings so he threatens to stay to get us to reduce our asking fee which is then fed into his salary.

It could be a similar thing to Kos last summer throwing his toys out the pram because he wanted a free transfer.

  27. Bamford10

Thanks. Left. And I like your XI, but I’m not sure we’re going to sign both a Partey and an Aouar before October 5th. I hope we do, though. That would be really exciting.

  28. Marko

I dunno if it’s that Marc it’s more likely that any team can’t afford his wages and he’s not interested in taking a lower wage so now he wants to stay and fight for his place on the bench. It’s a pretty standard response from a poor player who’s more interested in money than playing football and we’ve seen plenty of them these past few years. Don’t you know Mesut is also staying and “fighting for his place” too. Probably something about love and Arsenal thrown in there.

  29. Marc

    Leftside

That’s a nice lineup although I can’t see us getting both Partey and Aouar without selling / part exchanging Laca. That wouldn’t be the end of the world though – we’d still have Pepe and Saka who can cover the wide areas.

  30. Marc

    Marko

If we’re asking for a fee of £3 million (for example) that’s equivalent to £20k per week over a 3 year contract. If a club is willing to pay him £50k a week that could become £70k.

Kolas is not going to get anywhere the squad this season unless we get 3 or 4 really bad injuries.

  31. Marko

Kolas is not going to get anywhere the squad this season unless we get 3 or 4 really bad injuries.

He was on the bench the first game but it’s more about the fact that it’s yet another player on a lot of money not contributing and unwilling to leave. We’re being hamstrung by these useless fucking cunts from the Wenger era. Zero pride in their work they’re only interested in one thing

  32. Marc

    Marko

If I was Kolas I would look to get the maximum I could from a new deal – at LB or LWB our options are (in no order) Tierney, AMN, Saka and Soares before we need to turn to Kolas.

I reckon this is just brinkmanship.

  33. GunnerDNA

Fans keep on saying they want x and y players to leave but the manager keeps changing his mind. If a player knows he won’t be registered or not in the managers plan he will ask his agent to sort a move for him. But if they’re are allowed to carry on as normal and think that they have a chance to play they will stick around because they know they’re all overpaid. According to MIkel it’s a new season and every player in the squad is starting on the smae level which I think isn’t the right approach. We knew 4 yrs ago that some of these players are deadwood, so why are they been given mixed messages.

  34. Dissenter

We need a sporting director that’s brutal to get these players off the books.
Not that I blame Edu, he was dealt a bad hand by the pretenders who preceded. Wenger-Gazidis did a number on this club, really terrible job.

    We are better.

ps. Our Wenger was always a 72- 78 plus points a season man

I actually find your rather pathetic description of Arteta as Diet Pep offensive. Arteta wasn’t a playing legend like PV4 but he is a much more accomplished coach from what we have seen so far .
I think your flip, throwaway remarks which you imagine are amusing and clever are anything but.
We are hugely lucky to have Arteta as a coach, he may turn out to be one of the best coaches in Europe. PV4 isn’t on that level much as I admire him

  37. Champagne charlie

3-4-3 will be the primary system early/mid-season imo, with 4-3-3 being the eventual point we’ll hope to reach with a similar level of diligence and fluency.

That’ll depend a lot on the remaining moves in the transfer window, but even with no more moves I see the addition of mobile CB’s in Gabriel and Saliba as leaving the door ajar for a step towards that 4-3-3 as they adapt.

Most likely now when all fit:

    _________________Leno
    _______Mustafi____Luiz___Gabriel
    Bellerin___Ceballos_____Xhaka___Tierney
    ______Willian_____Laca______Auba

Most likely with Partey/Aouar added plus a natural evolution in formation toward latter part of the season:

    _______________Leno
    Bellerin___Mustafi___Gabriel____ Tierney
    _________Partey_____Xhaka____
    ______________Aouar
    ____Willian_____Laca______Auba.

    Possible next season:

    ______________Leno
    AMN_____Saliba___Gabriel____ Tierney
    ________Partey_____Xhaka____
    ______________Aouar
    ____Willian___Edouard_____Auba

    CC,
You seem to have included Xhaka in all three line-ups even with us having Ceballos, Aouar and Partey in the ranks.

  40. Marko

No real reason to start doing this starting 11 or that starting 11 until we know how the squad is finalized for the season. Also have to factor in injuries but one thing’s for certain if we get in our midfield targets then for sure we’ll be seeing a back 4 and some variation of 3 in the middle whether it’s two holding and a CAM or two 8’s and a 6. No way we’d have Partey, Aouar, Ceballos and Xhaka and still start with 2.

  41. Champagne charlie

    Marc
I think it’s very possible that he does, a first XI is difficult because it’s dependent on the opposition and game plan etc but I think more often than not the above will be seen now and later in the season. I see AMN eventually groomed to take over, with many a conversation about who is the better option throughout. Fact is I see AMN as RB next season because I think Bellerin will be sold then if he isn’t this time around.

    Left
Yea, if Partey signs he’s a better option for me at a midfield base than Ceballos, who I don’t see being nearly as effective deep in a 4-3-3. Aouar is a much more talented player than Ceballos and all things being equal he’ll play ahead of him in advanced areas when given the opportunity too. So Ceballos becomes the spare man in the 4 and it’ll chop and change depending the usual variables of a match. But I see the 3 names as the most consistent lineup centrally of those players.

  42. englandsbest

Re Ozil, Gendozy, Kolasinac, etc: Mikel should say, if you stay, you won’t play, keep you here all day, then send you away.

If he applies the ‘Sent to Coventry’, treatment immediately, all three will be gone come end of month.

Cruel? Not a bit. Three guys who should know when they are not wanted.

I never rated any of them. Ozil was an Wenger ego-trip, Kolasinac a clogger, Gendodozy a spoilt kid.
    Good riddance.

  43. Marc

    eb

Yeah and you’ve just landed us with a joint legal claim that we’d lose resulting in having to pay up the remainder of their contracts as they all leave on a free.

  44. Bojangles

    More fake news (for some)

“Arsenal have rejected Sheffield United’s £3 million bid for Folarin Balogun and are holding out for a structured deal worth in the region of £15 million, according to the Daily Mail.”

  45. the man from hampstead

emirates stroller – you misunderstand the 25 man squad rule; a club can have a maximum of 17 non home grown players aged over 21; and 8 home grown players over 21; you can have an unlimited number of under 21 players in addition to the 25 over 21. Guendouzi, Nketiah, Willock, Nelson, Martinelli, Saka, Smith-Rowe are ALL classified as under 21 so do NOT count in the 25. Bellerin, Chambers, Holding, Macey and AMN count as home grown, as did Martinez. Tierney is an overseas player, so we currently have 18 over 21 overseas players, which will be 19 if the Icelandic keeper arrives (assuming he is over 21). So 2 overseas players have to go anyway. and for any additional overseas signing another has to go. Chambers and Mustafi are most unlikely to be sold as they are injured … it’s a mess …

  46. Marko

I would be very tempted by that 5 million loan fee for Holding. Let’s be honest here injuries and a back 3 is the reason he’s still here. Saliba hits the ground running in the next few weeks or months and he’s back to the under 23’s

  47. Marc

    eb

Because you can’t treat a small group of employees in a manor that is deemed as trying to make them leave. Asking players to train separately or dropping them etc is OK but forcing a group to train longer or acting in a way that appears to be victimisation would cause no end of problems.

  48. Marko

Chambers and Mustafi are most unlikely to be sold as they are injured

Chambers is back doing ball work ready to go back to training normally any day now and Mustafi is expected back training normally by Oct no date but it’s expected early Oct. Only Martinelli and Mari are long term

  50. Emiratesstroller

    the man from Hampstead

I have not misunderstood the rules. I showed the mechanics of a “maximum” size registered
    squad of 25 players.

The point I have made is that there are currently 32 designated players in squad and I showed how it can be reduced to 25 assuming that we dispose of Sokratis and Torreira.

Arsenal have currently got 9 Home Grown Players in squad assuming Martinez leaves.

Sokratis and Torreira will leave this summer. I am pretty sure that the club will also offload
at least one more [Mustafi, Kolasinac or Guendouzi].

Chambers and Martinelli don’t need to be included in the registration until the New Year,
because they have long term injuries. Mustafi can easily be sold or loaned, because he is
expected to be fit in 3rd week of October.

  51. Ricky

Edu and Arteta needs to move Kolisinac, Socrates, Torreira, Guendouzi and Martinez on as quickly as possible. In January, move Mustafi and Chambers on – after they return to fitness. That’s 75m. Buy Partey and try to lure Alcantara. If not Alcantara, try to get Osdonne Edouard from Celtic. There are lots of other fine buys out there like Jonathan Tah from Leverkusen. Leave Aouar until the fee can be afforded.

Not picking a player is a matter of judgement, not a sign of victimisation.

I have little doubt that the trio know they won’t play for the first team. I imagine Mikel has made that clear. So they have the option of going or staying and maybe playing a game or two for the reserves.

For sure, Gendozy won’t stay, he’s a near international for his country. Kolasinac was a free, so to let him go on a free is not a problem. He may not get paid as much elsewhere, but at least he will play. With Ozil, some club will take him provided Arsenal pay a part of his last year’s salary.

A week in Coventry will give all three a nudge.

Stroller your comprehension skills need work.

    Latest update on Calum:
    • Running outside with team-mates and taking part in ball work.
    • Continues to work hard on strengthening programme with our rehab and medical teams.
    • Aiming to be back in full training in October.

Okay then,I was beginning to wonder if you were against him been signed

I do think he would be used in the middle if and when purchase,as at the moment our attack is mostly via the wings and I’m thinking Arteta will want another outlet through the middle and will very likely used him as 10,can’t really see him in that 6 or 8 role

I don’t know but he looks lightweight in my eyes and we do need some kind of bully in the middle of the pack and that’s why Partey is also mentioned, that’s just my understanding

I’m not saying we should keep them my point is you can’t treat one set of players different to others if it’s clear you’re trying to drive them out. Giving most of the players an afternoon off but making 3 do extra training without good reason for example.

It doesn’t depend all on the selling club but the buying club and the player himself.

  63. Useroz

“The Coventry treatment” is exactly what we must do to Ozil and the like. sooner than later. Suggested the same couple of months back. 100% sure there will be takers if we offer them for free. Championship and League 1 teams will go into game frenzy.

People see what Ozil can get away and copycat. We’d see more Kolacs if Afc doesn’t stop the rot right there.

“I actually find your rather pathetic description of Arteta as Diet Pep offensive.”

I fail to see how this could EVER be considered offensive, Henry? Its called humour and you ought to give it a try, whenever you decide to get over yourself.

Any of you guys having trouble with the site ?
Very, very slow to post something or refresh…

Yea HL I’m having issues with the site also. Slow as fuck. Even Xhaka is quick compared to it…

  66. Marc

    eb

    I know that.

” keep you here all day, then send you away.” is the point I was arguing against. If everyone else finishes training at 2pm you can’t keep 3 players for no other reason than trying to drive them out of the club.

  67. Dissenter

It makes sense for Grealish to stay at Villa because the owners of the club aren’t shy of opening their wallets to improve that squad.
There’s tabloid talk they are about to sign Bertrand Traoré from Lyon. He knos English football well enough and will improve them a lot offensively. They do need to work on that leaky defence.

I have not misread reports about Chambers. According to Arsenal website his projected
return to match fitness along with Martinelli is the END of year.

Just because he resumes full training does not mean that he is match fit.The player has been
    out injured since November 2019!

I recall announcements with Bellerin last year when it was announced that he was returning to full training and it took a further 3 months before was included in match games.

  69. Dissenter

Is it true that we asked for 15 million for an academy player that hardly trains with the senior squad? When is the last time Folarin Balogun played a competitive game for Arsenal?
He has only one year left on his contact but I understand he can’t leave on a free transfer based on the academy status – we will still get something from arbitration.
3 million is good money for a player who’s not wanted. Take it and move on.

  70. Steveyg87

Fabrizio has confirmed that Auba has signed da ting and he rejected 2 transfer offers as well.

    F**king A.

Now we need to flog off Torriera, kola, and 2 CB’s and find a CM that drops Elneny to the bench. A LOT that still needs to happen in this window. Reading through the comments last night I was pleased to see that we are all on the same page regarding Elneny, he is not the answer to our midfield woes, if we can see it, lets hope Arteta does too

  71. Emiratesstroller

Arsenal will manage I am sure departures from the club before the transfer window closes
even if it means loans or freebies.

Mustafi and Sokratis will I am sure leave by transfer deadline, because their contracts end on 30th June 2021. Arsenal can easily force out most other unwanted players such as Kolasinac by making it crystal clear to them that they will not be playing for club this season. Apart from Ozil I suspect that most players on our books want to play football!!

That does not mean that we will get a transfer fee, but it will get the players off the payroll.

  72. Words on a Blog

“El Neny is not the answer”
“Xhaka is slower than a snail and prone to defensive blunders”
“Sell AMN – he’s got no fixed position in the team”
“Sell Laca, he doesn’t score enough goals.”

All the LG statements above are true enough, but they’re clearly not the whole story as far as Arteta is concerned.

Under Arteta, players are given a structure which mitigates their weaknesses and accentuates their strengths. But they are only deemed “good enough” and selected to play in the next match if they work hard and intelligently and fulfil their allotted tactical and positional role in a given match.

That’s primarily why hardworking headless chickens like Guendouzi and lazy (and increasingly unadventurous) players like Ozil aren’t selected to play, whilst Xhaka and (going forward) El Neny can be expected to feature regularly.

  73. shaun

“Mustafi and Sokratis will I am sure leave by transfer deadline, because their contracts end on 30th June 2021” please let this happen then only have xhaka to move on …would be a dream get Partey and move on xhaka and mustafi ………………..well I won’t believe it until i see it but getting shot of mustafi is quite dreamy also

As wonderful news as it will be if they announce his new contract that’s entirely expected. I’ll be happier if it’s a new signing!

  76. Marc

Good news and bad news everyone, we have had a player sign an extension but it appears there’s been a mix up in the contracts department and Mustafi’s just signed a new 3 year contract on £250k per week and we’ve sold Auba for £1 million.
