Need… a fix… of transfer news

by .

Ok, so it’s been a little slower on the feeds today.

No new players.

I feel empty and sad.

Where are my new players?

There are a few tidbits buzzing around.

Matteo G is not on the PSG wanted list now, they apparently switched things up to Hector Bellerin. I read a journo say that actually, they aren’t interested in Hector, we’ve offered him to them. Cheeky.

Back to Matteo.

It’s starting to look a little worrying for the 21-year-old ball progressor. Does his reputation precede him? Possibly. Or the market is just slow. If Cassano and Balotelli could consistently find good clubs, I’m pretty sure we’ll find a home for a young French U21 with a lot of experience under his belt.

There was an amazing story doing the rounds that Unai Emery is in for Martinez if he doesn’t seal a deal with Arsenal. Imagine wanting to go back to a coach with about as much sauce as a pack of Ryvita?

Big Ken Friar is off the board and into the PRESIDENT FOR LIFE position. Good for him. Ken Friar has been an incredible servant for Arsenal and I love him even more for allegedly 1) Being one of the first to call time on Unai Emery 2) Being the guy that wanted more oversight for Don Raul.

He exits head held high. If he was part of the siren crew, we should all be very grateful for his service. He’s played a massive role in saving Arsenal.

It’ll be very interesting to see how Arsenal shape the boardroom in his absence. It’s clear that bringing in someone like Tim Lewis added some incisive legal expertise, as well as some fan love. I wonder if they’ll continue to add more people like that? Who is our tech guy? Who is our brand expert? Would we consider an explayer for a bit of prestige? Do they need an advertising guy that ‘gets’ the internet?

I do have to say, I’d love to see Ian Wright make an appearance. He’s the true embodiment of what it is to be an Arsenal statesman. He’s the perfect representative for a younger more modern boardroom. Wrighty is cross-generational in appeal. Like, who doesn’t love him? He speaks to the players, he speaks to the fans, he embodies the class of Arsenal, but with a contemporary twist. What’s not to like about the idea?

Some may question what expertise an explayer would offer, I’m not so sure that’s a problem at board level. I think putting explayers in charge of technical positions can sometimes be problematic. AC Milan have had all sorts of issues with Maldini. They had to sack Boban. I also think Juve might run into trouble with their strong clique of salaried players who pushed Pirlo into the management role very early. United’s class of 92 might not have board seats, but they’ve certainly influenced some bang-average decision making there.

… but at board level, you need to find balance. Industry expertise can be balanced by Arsenal expertise. In Wright, you have someone that understands the culture of the club, the fans, and the city, so I think it’d be great. I am biased though.

Not sure whether Josh wants to make moves like that, but it’s a nice thought.

To change the topic… Fans will be BACK in the stadium for Sheffield United on October 3. The club is balloting who can go. It’ll be super weird, no doubt, but fuck it, at least we’ll have some people in the ground. I’m no covid expert, but the protests around America didn’t result in massive spikes. If everyone wears a mask, hopefully, we can bring more fans back into the fold.

Cagigao has spoken about Arsenal and he said what we’re all feeling.

“The club has a very good head coach & are not far from building a winning team, a lot of good groundwork has been laid. Wherever the future takes me, I will never forget my time at the club & feel privileged to have played my part”

What a superstar.

Right, that’s all I have time for today. Let’s hope Arsenal speed up the news so I can get my FIX OF TRANSFER GOODNESS.

“ES I would be astonished if there was any clauses in Ozil’s contract that states he has to play or at least play a number of games.”

Of course there isn’t…pay him off, it’s a no win situation if he stays at the club and doesn’t play ….especially if we have a bad start to the season, which is a possibility as there is no guarantee that the quality of our football will improve against the lower sides unless we improve our creativity in the team.
The last thing Arteta would need is being questioned as to why Ozil is not in the side.
    Pay him off.

The first 2 games of the season could define our season , anything other than 6 points from Fulham and west ham could create a problem as we have Liverpool, City and United as the next 3 away games with Leicester and shef utd at home which could also prove to be difficult.

6 points is a must to provide the team with confidence going into a very difficult spell of games.
The league season could be over before the end of October if we are not careful and we will be left with a season of struggle, comparable to last season

Ian Wright would have to quit working as a pundit to be on the board. I can’t imagine a board member who’s so much in the public eye. I don’t think it’s the Kroenke style.

“Fiorentina are trying to push for a two-year loan deal with an obligation to buy, with an initial fee of £8 million being paid to Arsenal, with a future fee of around £20 million owed to the Gunner”

This is where silent Stan should cough up the owed £20m to our current kitty and then reclaim the owed £20m in 12 months time.

It’s 100% his club now after all.

  7. Champagne Charlie

    Luteo

That’s his hallmark, surprised you’ve not seen how he’s very Dariano-esque in that regard. Doesn’t agree on something and it’s full tilt passive aggression totally absent of any humour, then the cherry on top is the gaslighting that he in fact is dealing with a person with issues.

Quite something really, never seen someone go from melt to moral high ground in such quick succession. Must be the Debbie gene.

  8. andy1886

Niall Quinn is a smart guy, possibly too smart for the Kroenkes though.

I expect that Partey is a dead duck for financial reasons but we should be able to scrape up something for a half decent midfield addition.

One in the eye for the Hector haters if he does stay…

  9. Uwot?

What about “ bonnie” Prince Charlie.Hes free now.Always thought he had the fans pulse? Or we could go out on a limb with DT & Troopz🤪

  10. Vitima Kalua

Why has no one suggested giving Martin Keown a coaching role at Arsenal, after what he did with an average defense that took us to the champions league finals many seasons ago?
Is he past it? Or he’s controversial? Or anything?

  11. Paul Scott

Nice post Pedz but please don’t suggest mask wearing . It was downgraded to common cold on the NHS website months ago. Cheers.

  12. Champagne Charlie

David O’Leary surely a strong candidate, but Wrighty would be a nice touch too.

I like David Seaman a lot, and I think Alan Smith is a good profile and long term ambassador of the football club.

  13. Words on a Blog

Or if Stan and Josh want proper intelligent oversight in the new Arsenal board, they could always go for Bamford, Dariano and Receding.

  14. Uwot?

No champers. Have to disagree.Spunky seaman nice guy but thick as a plank & smudger smith is a flip flopper. Its bonnie Prince Charlie Nicholas or Nial Quinn ( experience with sunderland)Have never forgiven O’dreary after his antics at Leeds with us.Would consider Wright certainly.

  15. Pierre

Personally, I would prefer the ban on fans attending games to continue until after the away games v city, liverpool and United.

Our job will be a whole lot easier as it has been proved that since lockdown the refs decisions have become more evenly balanced instead of favouring the home side, consequently the away team’s results have improved since lockdown.

It is natural for the refs to be influenced by the fans , they are only human after all.

  16. Left testicle

Ian Wright doesn’t come across as the sharpest tool in the box. What qualifies him for such a role? What experience does he have? Reeks of clickbait on a slow news day.

  17. Freddie Ljungberg

Ceballos doing his medical today apparently.

Just one step away now from getting Xhaka out of the starting XI, come on Edu you can do it.

  18. James wood.

I know the exact man for the job.?
But he was one of the 55 they sacked.
Not a name any of you would recognise
but a really highly thought of guy within the club
at a high level for his post.
    Arsenals inner workings are crap.

“””Just one step away now from getting Xhaka out of the starting XI, come on Edu you can do it.””””

Just been appointed as the Swiss national captain.Congratualtions to Granit.
    A natural leader of men.

Hopefully, he will revert back to Arsenals official captain as well in due course.

    Pierre

The point I made earlier today about Ozil is that the player is clearly being advised by his agent who is coincidentally a high powered lawyer and we
    have reached an impasse.

Do we want to keep the player another 10 months? For that matter should we
include him in the first team squad?

Not playing Ozil as a member of the first team squad could be more problematic than some may assume particularly if the player is announcing
that he is “match fit”. He could argue that not playing him when match fit is
    a “restraint of trade”.

That is precisely why I would take him out of first team squad and force him to train and play with Reserves. That would make it crystal clear to player
that he is not going to play first team football this season and perhaps accelerate process of his departure.

Arsenal have been a soft touch for several seasons and it is high time that
we start toughening up and send a clear message to players, their agents
and other clubs that we are no longer going to roll over.

  21. Champagne Charlie

    Freddie
You’ll need to put in some prayer mat hours for that fantasy to come true.

If intelligence is a decisive factor for board members then that scraps numerous names mentioned. Wrighty? Give over lol

  22. Freddie Ljungberg

    CC

Hm, if we sign Partey, and play with a Cam where is Xhaka playing? Instead of Ceballos who was better than him in every aspect of play end of last season? Yeah, I don’t think a prayer mat will be necessary.

  23. CG

    fred

“”””CG Go fuck yourself troll. Boring cunt””

I rate Xhaka very highly.Incidentially as do all the managers who manage him.
including the Swiss National one who has just made him captain.

You clearly dont. But then again , you dont understand the dynamics of the game.
Its all about ,new players and transfer window histrionics with you.

Xhaka is staying – and he is the 1st name Arteta puts down on his team sheet.

You ll have to tell Arteta he is a c**t as well then.

  24. Freddie Ljungberg

    CG

So now when you’re not allowed to troll about Wenger anymore you switch to his darlings? How unexpected and fucking boring. Pierre is already filling that role.

  25. Leedsgunner

I bet Guendouzi thought that the other big clubs would be clamouring for him.

If the papers are to be believed… he has been offered to PSG, Barcelona and Juve with nobody biting.

Ohhh that’s gotta hurt the old ego for the young upstart.

Hmmm… maybe Matteo you’re not as good as you and Emery thought you were…

You threw away a potential great Arsenal career because you were too proud to say sorry. Hope it was worth burning all the bridges behind you…

  26. Batistuta

Maybe wasn’t the wisest thing totally shutting Guendozi out for that long. Surely has had an effect on anyone coming in for him

  27. Marko

Good shout on Alan Smith but Wrighty on the board in any boardroom? Can’t see it. I’ll be honest I don’t see it making a difference anyway honestly there’s important people at the club in important positions sure but it’s Edu and Arteta’s show now

  28. Champagne Charlie

    Freddie

It’s weird to me that you think every CM at the club has the same function or remit.

Arteta will be thankful to have midfield options for the first time at his disposal, but Partey will more than likely take the place of Ceballos with Aouar operating ahead in our “best” midfield trio.

This of course is heavily dependent on minimal acclimatisation to the league from both Partey and Aouar.

  29. bacaryisgod

It sounds simple in a way. Ozil is on 350k a week. Not sure why we can’t pay him 250k a week to leave and he can sign a nice new spanking contract with some other team for say 150k a week He picks up a cool 2.5m extra but the downside is that he might have to actually play. We say 100k a week in salary which we all know is needed.

Have a nasty feeling things aren’t that simple. Maybe there’s a loyalty clause so he gets a nice fat bonus at the end of the contract. Who knows?

Either way I agree that we just have to find a way for him to leave the club.

  30. Freddie Ljungberg

    CC

Who thinks that? Name one thing Xhaka does better than Ceballos that makes him so important? He’s not better defensively, nor offensively, he’s much less mobile, can’t handle pressure and doesn’t progress play as well.

But sure, play him for some weird reason. Guess it’s because he’s been at the club for 4 years and you feel some weird loyalty to him even though he’s been largely awful.

  31. bacaryisgod

As for a board member, I think the logical choice would be Bergkamp. Henry would obviously be an option but he’s got punditry commitments. Another option would be Sol Campbell, a little prickly perhaps but clearly like Bergkamp and Henry he’s a smart man.

  32. Marko

Partey will more than likely take the place of Ceballos with Aouar operating ahead in our “best” midfield trio.

I predict that Ceballos assuming that he maintains some of the good form he’s shown since the restart will replace Xhaka by and large. It makes sense to me he can easily replace what Granit offers to the team and Partey will almost certainly start every game if he’s signed

  33. Marko

Again not to start another Xhaka debate (God knows they’re always fun) but if we bring in two midfielders who are better than him and bring back Ceballos who has out performed him then it’s logical to think that his game time and place in the starting 11 is under threat

  34. Marc

    Freddie

I wouldn’t worry about Xhaka – once we have better options and fans are back in the ground even if Arteta won’t drop him the fans will do the job.

  35. Champagne Charlie

    Freddie

Look, this ridiculous leaning you’re doing on stats from the tail end of last season is dull af. I keep hearing about how Arteta changed things to nullify Xhaka when the reality is that he shoehorned an attacking midfielder into a deeper position for the first time in his career because he never had midfield options he wanted.

That’s not making allowances for Xhaka, that’s making them for Ceballos so we get a functioning midfield dynamic. You’d see that if it wasn’t such a bore-fest of an agenda against Xhaka.

Ceballos isn’t a better passer, he’s certainly not better defensively, he’s not nearly better tactically, and he’s far more likely to lose possession – so he’s not the superior player at all from deep. He’s a different type of player entirely, and thankfully brings characteristics to the table that are lacking from Xhaka. But talk of him being better in every department is top tier ignorant, he’s not a replacement.

  36. Marc

    Left

I don’t know what Henry’s up to at the moment but all of the others are involved in a more direct / hands on role at clubs at the moment. Going onto the Board might not appeal to them.

  37. Freddie Ljungberg

    CC

Oh, it’s an agenda against Xhaka, give me a fucking break.

We’ll see when the season starts but I’m pretty sure that if we sign Partey, Xhaka will be on the bench slicing oranges, aka his best position.
Think we’ve taken this as far as we can, no need going over the same ground again.

  38. bacaryisgod

Freddie-why waste so much energy on Xhaka. From what I could tell, he formed a decent partnership with Ceballos. If Ceballos returns and we can sign a better midfielder that Xhaka then I’ll be the first one recommending he goes to the bench.

I don’t think you’ll find too many people preferring a Xhaka-Ceballos partnership over a Partey-Ceballos partnership (even though most people are just trusting Partey is a quality player without having seen him much)

Either way, Xhaka is a decent option for us to have and he’s been generally playing well under Arteta.

  39. Marko

Look, this ridiculous leaning you’re doing on stats from the tail end of last season is dull af.

It’s dull as fuck to reference stats and facts that had Ceballos outforming Xhaka across every important metric? That’s weird. Also Ceballos isn’t an attacking midfielder he’s also been a CM or a number 8.

But talk of him being better in every department is top tier ignorant

Just simply disregarding all the statistics that said otherwise. Look at this point we’re better off just moving on from any sort of Granit Xhaka discussions because you are simply incapable of having an unbiased view or opinion on the subject. We’ll have to see it play out on the field but again assuming that we get in all our targets and Ceballos maintains his wonderful form and also has to be said that Mikel doesn’t have any bias towards Xhaka well then he will be less of a fixture in the starting 11 going forward. Which would be us improving our midfield

  40. Champagne Charlie

    Freddie

You’re awfully confident after two years of being dead wrong. When the inevitable happens do avoid the appeal to whatever excuses you dream up and finally acknowledge reality.

  41. Champagne Charlie

    Marko

Yes marko, I’m biased on the subject…… Deary me what a comment from you. I’ve been crystal clear on matters regarding Xhaka, and have been vindicated numerous times over.

Want to talk bias then strike up a convo about AMN with someone and let it flow you fucking melon.

  42. Champagne Charlie

“Also Ceballos isn’t an attacking midfielder he’s also been a CM or a number 8.“

Well Marko, Dani Ceballos happens to disagree with you so who shall we fucking listen to on the matter? You? Or the man himself?

    Dani Ceballos:

“He is using me in a position which is unusual for me, as a pivot in front of the defence next to Granit (Xhaka)“

“We have also spoken a lot and worked a lot on the defensive aspects of my role, my positioning on the pitch when it’s time to defend. I would like to play a bit further forward, of course, but I feel comfortable in this position because I like to touch the ball as much as possible.“

  43. Bill

To he h9nest CC, I guess that a Ceballis / Partey combo will replace Xhaka and that Aouar will be part of a mobile midfield triumvirate.

I suspect Xhaka will be played against stronger teams where we are under more pressure.

Of course, that all depends on whether we get both Partey and Aouar – that’s a big if. In any event, I dont understand the obsession with starting line-ups. Whomever starts depends on the tactics employed and this will be based on the respective strength of the opposition along with injury problems. Its a squad game.as someone said, Arteta will be relieved to have options. It certainly doesn’t mean there is a binary bifurcation of players being brilliant or shit.

  44. Tom

“Have a nasty feeling things aren’t that simple. Maybe there’s a loyalty clause so he gets a nice fat bonus at the end of the contract. Who knows?“

    Bacaryisgod

There probably is( a fat bonus) judging by the way his agent was able to bend Arsenal over on that one. Along with a lifetime supply of the latest mobile devices and game consoles, so Ozil can express his Arsenal love to millions of his followers while practicing his sublime passing and touch playing fortnight instead of actual football.

Other perks include: topples models massaging his sore lower back, and Arsenal paid trolls masquerading as real supporters praising his value to the club on various blogs and messaging boards.

  45. Useroz

I posted earlier this week that quotes from Ozil’s agent give me the impression he’s definitely a bad dude as far as Ozils contract situation is concerned.

If the UAE thing is credible and Ozil continues to play hardball, loan him to a Championship team, or Celtic, to help toughen him up. Good for his future.

There’s always funds if Edu and Arteta look hard enough. We have a fantastic collection of contemporary grown men ready for pastures new. If they couldn’t get £100m or equivalent (eg swaps, instalments) out of it, someone ain’t doing the job.

According to media, Partey and Auoar would cost under £100m, and Edouard would set us back £25 – 30m. With Vinai’ talent (or sauce), these stretched targets aren’t unrealistic.

Players come and go, like it or not. Bellerin may or may not improve but if his sale helps address critical area of concern, why not? Surely will cost us more without a decent MF than less a top RB. And Bellerin isn’t a top RB.

Similarly for Laca. May be just his dip in form , may be more, but swapping him for a MF talent or just Edouard, a up n coming striker, definitely makes sense at this stage.

Guendouzi not having real suitors is a worry but also a wake up call for the dude. So he knows he’s nobody in the talent market and his agent would have told him about the non offers. Not even from his home market. May be , just may be a turning point he badly needed.

Must sell Torreira. Unlike Guendouzi, he’s good reputation and markets Just need to secure a better offer than a loan+ buy , unless works out to be over £30m.

Pure loans are bs. When did it work for us last? The fact that Elneny still RTB is testament. What if loanees got injured? Our collection isn’t exactly robust tbh.

  46. Champagne Charlie

    Bill

Last season we had two central players we leaned on heavy (Xhaka and late season Ceballos), I’m just glad we’ll have a midfield group that can genuinely offer quality and diversity to the manager.

Fully expect multiple iterations, but I think our most consistent and solid offering will be Xhaka and Partey at a base, with Aouar ahead. I also see Ceballos operating ahead more as Aouar acclimates to the league.

I’d be more confident of Partey adapting quicker given he’s more established and mature in his game. Aouar is still a talent let’s not forget, it’s asking a lot for him to be a bonafide 10 with us from day one.

  47. Valentin

    Pedro,

What does your source says about Pepe? Today, I have heard the same rumor that we are offering Pepe to any interested parties for about £40 millions.
It does kind of make sense, but I can see two issues with it. Firstly Kroenke are unlikely to sanction an immediate depreciation of £30 millions on an asset. Secondly, I can see Willian, Saka and Nelson rotating on the wing, but even with Aouar we are still short in the CAM and Wingers department even if AMN and Tierney could do a job on the wing-back role.

  48. SpanishDave

Lee Dixon is a good rounded person who loves the club.
He was a steady player throughout his career with us.
It would be good to reduce the age of the board.

  49. Marko

I’ve been crystal clear on matters regarding Xhaka, and have been vindicated numerous times over.

    ???

Want to talk bias then strike up a convo about AMN with someone and let it flow you fucking melon.

If you’re going to bring up AMN every time you can’t make a decent argument for Granit I can only tell you to get better at debating.

I dunno what is so hard to understand it’s pretty basic stuff we’re talking about here. If we sign up two players who are better than him and see someone in Ceballos continue to outperform him then logically speaking it will affect his game time and starting position. It’s that simple and I don’t know why you feel the need to argue against it. But look quickly remind us of how he’s survived under what is 4 different Arsenal managers now and we’ll just forget how two of them were sacked one wasn’t offered the job and how the current manager is looking at bringing in significant changes and quality to the midfield coincidentally I’m sure.

Also those Dani Ceballos quotes don’t really mention him as a AM he’s more inferring box to box (an 8?) as opposed to the deep playmaker/holding midfielder role he plays I think anyway.

  50. Champagne Charlie

    Val

What sense would there be in selling Pepe in this market? Especially with a litany of players ahead of him in the order of merit.

Also, Aouar, Willian, Ceballos, and ESR can all operate as the link or 10.

  51. SpanishDave

With all the talk of strengthening the mid, how do Willock and ESR figure?
We assume they will not step up and only be subs.
    Probably right.

  52. Marc

” I’ve been crystal clear on matters regarding Xhaka, and have been vindicated numerous times over.2

Well let’s get one crystal clear fact out there about Xhaka. 20 odd years making CL football we sign Xhaka and we haven’t been in it since.

Anyone who thinks who can make top 4 without a competent midfield needs to up their medication.

  53. Marc

How much do we have outstanding on the Pepe deal? Pretty sure it’d be more than the £40 million Valentin suggested we’ve offered him to clubs for.

  54. Champagne Charlie

    Marko

Save it, it’s been “pretty basic stuff” for a while yet you manage to get lots wrong when it comes to certain players only to then claim bias on behalf of others.

It’s incredibly dull. My “bias” for Xhaka has seen my view of him vindicated, your bias of AMN has seen you look an ever bigger mug on the subject. Work out for yourself how the two aren’t remotely similar.

  55. Bill

I agree about all our new players needing an adaptation period.

I’m intrigued with how Arteta sets out to play with the new players. I’m not convinced at all he will retain those players he used out of necessity last season – but that does NOT mean he thinks they are shit.

I’m praying we get Aouar and Partey as that gives us a lot more options and a lot more quality. I’m not as confident that we will get both and, if we do, I think we will need to sell Lacazette snd probably, Bellerin. That leaves other problems to solve in the next,,,

I certainly can’t envisage the club getting both midfield targets and a new, young striker Edouard.

I’m certainly not convinced about Eddie N and I also fail to be convinced by Willick, but accept they are both young.

The great thing is that I’m now looking forward to the new season and looking forward to discussions by fans rather than my blood pressure increasingly rising and my depression becoming deeper about Arsenal.

I definitely agree that we have all been scarred by the last decade of transfer incompetence that has forged a fragility in confidence about securing our new targets, but at least THERE IS HOPE!

  56. Marko

Juventus have completed the signing of Andrea Brighenti from Serie B side Monza.

But the 32-year-old striker isn’t going to team up with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo in Andrea Pirlo’s first-team, instead Brighenti will join the club’s U23 team.

Veteran Brighenti will fill one of the quota places for over-age players and will be at least nine years older than the majority of his team-mates.

    Very weird

  57. Useroz

I don’t suppose ours is a proper board. We don’t even have a CEO. Typically the CEO is the conduit to, and sits on, the board. Is Vinai attending by invitation? Just a ridiculous situation.

Ex players should become a BoD just because they have passion, articulate, and look smart. What’s the individual bringing to the table? He’s part of the team (BoDs) giving direction to and setting goals for the CEO. You don’t see our lovely Adams sitting there so you?

I think Arsenal (ie Stan) would put another professional in there.

  58. Marko

Save it, it’s been “pretty basic stuff” for a while yet you manage to get lots wrong when it comes to certain players only to then claim bias on behalf of others.

Again if this is how you argue points and opinions then let’s just leave it.

It’s incredibly dull. My “bias” for Xhaka has seen my view of him vindicated

How have you been vindicated again?

Also again have no idea why you keep mentioning AMN when people are discussing Xhaka. If this is your counter point to the whole Ceballos outforming him statistically since the restart it’s really weak.

But I’m very interested in hearing about how you’ve been vindicated about Xhaka. I only hope that it’s something more than him maintaining a starting spot in one of our worst midfield groups in one of our worst periods as a football club. I’d be embarrassed if it was that talking point

It turns out being vindicated on a player now means that player just being a little less shit than before.

That or player being an important first team player as club deteriorates and declined.

It’s a very strange argument people are having honestly I don’t see how anyone can argue that if we bring in 3 players who are better and perform better than someone then that someone is going to see less game time than previous. Maybe I should have worded it that way instead of mentioning Xhaka by name. Oh fuck I just did it

  60. Useroz

If we buy proper midfielders in this TW the most popular Xhara issue would sort itself out.

Once the new (hopefully two) midfielders settle in and perform more or less to expectation ,the pecking order would become clear depending who else’s around eg Guendouzi, Elneny, Torreira, Willock, ESR, Ceballos. I suspect Xhara still has a role then, until we need more funds!

  61. Champagne Charlie

“Again if this is how you argue points and opinions then let’s just leave it.“

I’ve argued Xhaka numerous times, my tone with you comes at the juvenile mention of bias and stating I’ve no ability to debate about him. Just do fuck off with that embarrassing ignorance, your failures to follow aren’t mine.

“Also again have no idea why you keep mentioning AMN when people are discussing Xhaka“

You’d have an idea if you read the last two posts I’ve written to you on the subject – there’s that ignorance shining through again. It’s nothing to do with Xhaka and everything to do with your claims of “bias”.

There’s nothing biased about my views of Xhaka, meanwhile you’re still arguing reality and claiming AMN dogshit. THAT is bias hard at work. Saying Xhaka is plenty capable of being a good performer for Arsenal, and him doing just that, isn’t.

  62. Marc

    Useroz

Under that scenario Xhaka is going to be back up and on the bench a lot of the time (and boo’d every time he’s subbed on) will he accept a role that see’s him not being first choice?

  63. Guns of Hackney

Ironically, 15,000 at an Arsenal game post Covid19 is probably about where the attendance will be for us in the Championship…and against Sheffield United. Probably in the championship.

    Life imitates art.

  64. Guns of Hackney

Why can’t we find a buyer for our shit forward, Lacazette?

Where’s the sales to raise the cash to rebuild?

We have easily £100m sitting around stealing a living. Let’s get them gone.

  65. Marko

my tone with you comes at the juvenile mention of bias and stating I’ve no ability to debate about him

First off it’s complete bias when you disregard stats that show Ceballos outforming Xhaka and say he’s not a better passer he’s not a better tackler etc etc and also completely biased when the argument being made is better players coming in will see his game time and starting position under threat and you’re basically waving it away and talking something about being vindicated. And the inability to debate stuff is pretty straightforward considering you keep bringing up my opinions on AMN like it has anything to do with discussing Xhaka.

meanwhile you’re still arguing reality and claiming AMN dogshit. THAT is bias hard at work

I would say average more than dogshit. But yeah fuck me for not being impressed with the 3 or 4 good games he’s had the last 3 seasons. Let’s just forget all the poor ones right.

Saying Xhaka is plenty capable of being a good performer for Arsenal, and him doing just that, isn’t.

I love how you signed off though pretending like you’ve been very reasonable all this time when it comes to Xhaka. Like you haven’t been militant at all when it comes to him. But again the whole thing was about him seeing less game time if we brought in better midfielders than him and that was it.

  66. azed

The first thing the club should do is take the no 10 from Ozil and give to Willams.

He should also not be registered for the league or Europa.

Knowing the lazy c**t he will probably be very happy not to be registered.

  67. China1

You can clearly identify CGs hierarchy of support

He’s trolling on xhaka tho because if he rated him even half as much as he’d have you think he’d be saying ‘our xhaka’!

  68. Marko

I wonder where it ends though for Charlie like what’s the limit. Like someone like myself sees us signing up the likes of Partey, Aouar and Ceballos and thinks yeah his game time and starting position is going to be affected by their arrivals while charlie still sees him as instrumental. I wonder if it’s going to take something like Pogba, Casemiro and Thiago before he worries? Who knows doesn’t really matter.

  69. Marc

    azed

I think we’re approaching the problem from the wrong angle. We need to bring Ozil in from the cold – we should arrange a team building exercise where Ozil and Xhaka are dropped deep into Siberia for 7 days, just a pity we forget where we dropped them when it’s time to pick them up again.

  70. Champagne Charlie

“First off it’s complete bias when you disregard stats that show Ceballos outforming Xhaka and say he’s not a better passer“

Sounds incredibly reductive and opportunistic. So Ceballos passes more and tackles more at the tail end of last season and that makes him superior in all facets? Works out lovely doesn’t it? Nvm the context of our midfield dynamic and the tasks before them individually.

Mustafi has raw numbers that eclipse VVD, is he a better defender than him too by that metric? Lucky us.

I keep hearing about this “better player” stuff but again that’s nothing more than a broadstroke remark to conflate matters. Aouar is a better player than Xhaka, let’s see him in front of the defence doing that role better than the Swiss. You see that’s the level of the debate whenever he’s concerned.

  71. Marc

    Marko

Providing we get one other CM along the lines of Partey Xhaka’s time is already up at the club. He’ll get some game time early in the season but once the new arrival is settled he’ll slowly be dropped.

My guess is he won’t like not playing or the jeers when his name is read out when he does start or when he’s subbed on.

  72. China1

    Marc that wouldn’t work

Xhaka would put ozil on his back and carry him 6000 miles home, then fine himself and ozil 7 months salary for being 7 months late for training

Thus cementing xhaka’s place as permanent captain and first name on the team sheet for life

    You’re not winning at this

  73. Marc

    CC

Do you accept that we could improve on Xhaka in midfield?

If yes do you think we should try to improve on Xhaka in midfield?

If yes to that what priority to you make improving midfield?

  74. Marko

So Ceballos passes more and tackles more at the tail end of last season and that makes him superior in all facets?

Again don’t get what is so hard for you to understand. When the topic being put forward is if we bring in Partey and Aouar and if Ceballos maintains his form since lock down that Xhaka game time and starting position is under threat. I don’t know why you are struggling with it so much.

Nvm the context of our midfield dynamic and the tasks before them individually.

    Yeah sure…

Mustafi has raw numbers that eclipse VVD, is he a better defender than him too by that metric? Lucky us.

Are you sure that you’re not biased in any way? Because it seems like you’re again trying to disregard stats that had Ceballos outperforming Xhaka since the restart.

Aouar is a better player than Xhaka, let’s see him in front of the defence doing that role better than the Swiss.

Again this is where being disingenuous comes into play. Cherry picking Aouar when it’s likely Partey (who is superior in every way) and Ceballos (who has shown that he can outperform Xhaka) who will replace Granit in front of the defence.

Also worth noting that not once have you given an example of being vindicated about Xhaka despite several mentions of being vindicated.

  75. Marko

Providing we get one other CM along the lines of Partey Xhaka’s time is already up at the club.

Ceballos returning was key for me. Had it just been Partey he would have survived but Ceballos back on loan and one assumes back performing for Mikel the way Mikel wants should see old Granit being less and less of an important figure in the side. He’ll still get plenty of game time though but I expect him to be eased out of the starting 11 eventually. Could see Partey and Ceballos working very well together honestly

  76. Champagne Charlie

    Marko

I’ve already stated more than once I’m glad Arteta will have numerous midfield options at his disposal finally, and expect to see various iterations thanks to it. Pretty self-evident that includes Xhaka being alternated.

Yea, sadly I’m not as unilateral when it comes to football as some appear to be. You say Ceballos “outperformed” Xhaka and instead I saw a good partnership dovetailing to deliver us success with admirable performances in all quarters. Differs to the bogus notion that Ceballos was a one-man midfield and Xhaka was a non-entity.

Kind of speaks to the notion that the roles of both players were different and not comparable.

“Also worth noting that not once have you given an example of being vindicated about Xhaka despite several mentions of being vindicated.“

The last year serves as example. You were utterly humbled (who am I kidding) by the uncoachables actually getting the full treatment and delivering.

  77. azed

Also can we drop the Xhaka argument?

Dude is a starter and he’s almost indestructible. No matter the number of midfielders we sign, Xhaka will start because one of the other midfielders will be injured, sick, suspended, late, rude, break the non negotiables ……………….

  78. CG

    China

“”””You can clearly identify CGs hierarchy of support He’s trolling on xhaka tho because if he rated him even half as much as he’d have you think he’d be saying ‘our xhaka’!””””””

I only give the prefix ‘our’ to Arsenal men who have served the club for over 20 years.

eg. O leary, Adams, Friar, Wenger.

As for our Wenger- I have come to an agreement with PedRo- I wont mention him again ( until the book launch at least.)

ps. no surprise the club are on the lookout for buyers for Pepe. And no surprise Xhaka is being offered a new contract.

As predicted, an appalling ill thought out signing.
If they don’t sell Pepe this summer- CG predicts they really will be taking a financial hit on him next.

  79. BacaryisGod

I would be very curious to see Pedro our out a supporters poll asking which player they dislike the most on our current squad. The choices should be:

    a) Ozil
    b) Mustafi
    c),Guendouzi
    d) Xhaka
    e) Other

  80. Gonsterous

    Guns of HackneySeptember 3, 2020 13:11:30
Why can’t we find a buyer for our shit forward, Lacazette?

Wow, wonder what you think about nketiah and willock.
Arsenal fans with their mild amnesia. It’s all about who performs well in the last 5 games at the end of the season, isn’t it?

  81. Leftfootcurler

Arsenal not being linked to any creative players is worrying.

Aouar is a CM. He is not a creator. He is similar to modric/iniesta.
He is a better version of Ceballos, who is not creative.
    Partey is a CM too.

Get someone like Brandt/Buendia to play at LW/false 9. These should be cheap enough.

This is a more important signing than Partey,Aouar

Arsenal should try to simply buy players this season. The players’ value will never be lower.
Selling our players can happen next season,as football recovers economically.
Players’ value will increase next season. Sell at that time to balance the books.

We can also buy and sell.
Say,get Ryan Fraser and loan him.
Sell him for 25-30 mil next season.

Get Ibrahim Sangare for 10 mil and loan him.
Sell him in 2 seasons when his value rises to 40-50 mil.

In this way,we can raise some cash.

In our squad the most disposable and sellable assets are:

    Leno,Guendouzi,Torreira,Laca,Bellerin

In this Covid market, they may not go for much money.
But surely next season they will.

Guendouzi needs to play regularly though. Needs to go on a loan.

Most importantly, without creativity forget top 4.

  82. China1

Actually That’s a good point Pedro you should utilize some polls or something. Make it a bit interactive sometimes

    Some ones you could do:

    Top 3 performers last season
Who we most want the club to sign
    Who we most want sold

    Etc etc

  83. TR7

Fiorentina & Arsenal have a ‘total agreement’ for the transfer of midfielder Lucas Torreira. Arsenal will receive €8m for the initial loan deal, with a further €16m in the obligation to buy clause. [Labaro Viola exclusive]

  84. Champagne Charlie

“Arsenal managed just 3 wins in the 17 Premier League matches Lucas Torreira started last season compared to 11 wins from the 21 matches he did not

🇺🇾 The Uruguayan started the first 6 league matches of Arteta’s reign but just 2 of the last 14

    👋 He’s heading to Fiorentina“

Just stick him in front of the defence they said.

  85. Emiratesstroller

So Arsenal may have reached agreement with Fiorentina to loan Torreira this season with obligation to buy him next season. The overall fee is of course well
below what we paid for him originally.

Arsenal’s current resources in midfield are woefully thin and even if Ceballos
is signed he will be unavailable for 14 days quarantine. So he is likely to miss
    early season games.

One assumes that Arsenal will need to commit to buying Partey sooner rather
than later and somehow find the finances to pay for the deal. I cannot believe
that Elneny is the replacement for Torreira.

  86. Marko

We paid 25 million pounds for Torreira so we’ll be making a loss on him. Again our only significant outgoings seem to be likely Lacazette, Bellerin and AMN soooo it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to afford the likes of Partey and Aouar

  87. TR7

‘“Arsenal managed just 3 wins in the 17 Premier League matches Lucas Torreira started last season compared to 11 wins from the 21 matches he did not’

When people argue Arsenal have never made it to the CL since Xhaka joined us you laugh off the correlation but here you seem to attribute poor results in what was a tumultuous season overall for Arsenal to Torrera. I still feel Torr was mishandled in a way. A good player nevertheless.

  88. azed

“Just stick him in front of the defence they said.”

At least he who shall not be named for obvious reasons got something right even though if he was criticised for it.

  89. Champagne Charlie

    TR7

I’m pasting a tweet, feel free to laugh it off and claim the player misused and the like. Must’ve been misused by both Emery and Arteta en route to being sold though so sounds a stretch.

That, or he was never what was billed and simply didn’t cut it in England. It’s not that deep, but alas, thankfully it’s been recognised and we’ll be in a position to recruit much better.

  90. Marko

Torreira is still a good player he just didn’t work out he joined Arsenal at the wrong time if we’re honest with ourselves too much upheaval. But Xhaka on the hand joined us at the perfect time. Declining club on its way to being a Europa League constant under 3 managers who didn’t know what to do and he became a mainstay. Perfect. Not just him though it’s how a few others have made it this long with Arsenal

  91. Words on a Blog

    Marko,

If the deal is what is being reported €8m loan fee plus €16m obligation to buy, we won’t be making a loss on Torreira.

If I recall correctly we bought him for £25m on a five year deal. After two years with us, and two years amortisation, this year he is worth £15m on our books, and next year he’ll be worth £10m.

So we would be making a profit on the deal.

  92. TheBayingMob

“Hmmm… maybe Matteo you’re not as good as you and Emery thought you were…”

I never got the hype with Matteo; always seemed a headless chicken with no grace and a lot of attitude

  93. Leedsgunner

Lille open to selling Bakary Soumare to us… if we pay £43m…

As I’ve said before I rather have him over Partey. Younger and virtually for the same price.

With Pepe and Gabriel M in the team he should fit in nicely and quickly…

    Let’s get it done Arsenal!

  94. Valentin

    CC,

It would make sense to sell Pepe even at a loss if Arteta did not rate Pepe. Even if he rated him he may thought that he would be worth sacrificing in order to get Aouar and Partey.
Right now Willian and Saka look the better wingers or at least the most adapted to the league. That could also be the confidence shot that Reiss Nelson need to kickstart his career. Arteta seems to really like him.

Personally I don’t think the Kroenke would ever sanction it as it would be mean swallowing a £40 millions depreciation on a player. That amortisation loss would then severely impact our FFP. What would be the point of qualifying for Europe to be banned from it because of the FFP.

  95. Emiratesstroller

Both Torreira and Guendouzi are not well suited to play in EPL particularly as
a collective. Frankly the departure of both is not a major loss.

However, there must now be serious concern that we are going to start next season light on midfield numbers. Ceballos will not be available for at least
two games even if he signs today. He will be in 14 days quarantine.

  96. HighburyLegend

@Leeds : of course, after what happened with Pepe – plus Gabriel lately – they know we are the right pigeons for them. lol

  97. Words on a Blog

Not sure if I understand the quarantine requirements for playing coming back from overseas.

If a player comes from an affected country overseas and has a test which shows that he’s negative for Covid-19, what is the point of the additional 2 week quarantine?

  98. SpanishDave

FFP is dead after Man City fiasco.
It’s now loans, refered payments, and low valuations.
Our overpaid dross is holding as back as predicted .

  99. Champagne Charlie

    Val

Right, but in a cash-strapped Europe where fees like that are only for a few teams who is breaking the door down to get Pepe for those numbers?

  100. TR7

Torrera was player of the month twice in a row. I don’t quite agree he is unsuitable to the league. We did not figure out his right position. Besides under Emery we were so unsettled as a team, must have made things even more difficult for him. Injuries did not help his cause either.

  101. bacaryisgod

Torreira for 24m is fine by me even if it’s stretched out until next summer.

Does anyone know if the Pepe deal structure with Lille was for the benefit of Lille’s tax obligations as much as it was for us.

With a lot of teams anticipating heavy losses this year, it might be harder to create those types of deals. Last year, Lille probably welcomed the opportunity to spread that income over a multi-year period but this year there’s nothing to write-off against.

  102. Valentin

    WOAB,

That was exactly my point, but I have been told by two separate sources that we did offer Pepe to other clubs. None of them were interested.

My sources didn’t know the context of the offer.

Was it made outside of any negotiation and Arteta just want to get rid of him so he can buy his own players?

Was it made during negotiation about another player? For example did we offer him to Athletico in exchange for Partey or to Lyon for Aouar? Or did we even initiated the talk about Pepe? Napoli may have said, how much for Pepe and we said £60 millions and then they move away. In that later situation, then technically we did try to sell him for £60 millions, but not really.

    Hence my question to Pedro.

  103. Freddie Ljungberg

    Val

So the player you hate more than anything, who you couldn’t stop badmouthing at every opportunity during the last year despite having a more than acceptable first season t the club is now leaving and you have the only sources? Interesting……..

Not the first time you’ve mentioned this either if I recall correctly, said a couple of weeks ago to, trying to wish it into reality much?

  104. Sid

If and when Arsenal manage to sell Xhakalson, i will pluck pubic hair one at a time in celebration

    Im telling you for free!

  105. Marc

And Valentin gets pissed off when people call him out for lying!

Highly likely that we still owe more than £40 million on Pepe anyway so we’d have a debt to service without the asset.

The problem with Guendozi is the ridiculous price that got attached to him. Doesn’t help our cause that we’re a team with a really poor midfield and his behaviour is so bad he can’t get near it.
