Sexy midfielder linked, but is he too sexy for our budget?

adidas-away.jpg

It’s that time of year when Arsenal launch a new kit and everyone has a massive fight about fashuuuuun and tradition.

I like the white kit with a hint of marbling. Adidas is doing a pretty decent job of making kits acceptable to the level where normal people can wear them, but they still feel like they’re cool for the youfffff. This third kit is based off the Marble Halls from Highbury. It’s a nice nod to the past and shows again that the people in charge their end actually have something invested in Arsenal.

I can’t be having the traditionalists whining about how the execution doesn’t meet exacting standards. ‘Iconic’ happens when you take chances. That bruised banana kit was one of the biggest chances in kit making history and now everyone loves it. A good kit supplier should respect the past, but also take chances on the future. I’m down with this attempt. I reckon it’ll sell very nicely.

I also love the video. A David Seaman nude? Why not… we’re only human. I cannot imagine how much fun it must have been to shoot work like this. If anyone knows the directors or advertising folk that work on that account, drop me a DM or e-mail me… I want to talk to you about this on a podcast.

In other news, the internet is ABLAZE with transfer rumours I actually LOVE.

Firstly, it seems like it is inevitable that Gabriel is going to join. There are about 15 publications I’ve never heard of all saying the same thing. The player would be mad to choose the Napoli project over the Arsenal one. This was interesting from the Lille CEO.

“I feel he’s among the top 5 dominant central defenders in Europe right now. His statistics, which aren’t well covered outside of France, shows that his percentage for winning duels is pretty unheard of in a league that’s extremely physical”

He’s exactly the type of player we should be looking at. Young, athletic, aggressive, technically sound, and Brazilian. Give me 11 of those.

In slightly sexier news, Matt Spiro, the French journo, reckons Arsenal have a bid on the table for Houssem Aouar.

WOW.

The 22-year-old midfielder is still a baby, but he has it all. He didn’t shame himself at all against Bayern in the Champions League and he was the midfielder all the City players were talking about after they exited. He would be an outrageous coup. The only reason I think there’s an outside chance we bring him to the club is 1) We have Matteo as a make-weight. 2) He might not want to go to Madrid or City as his first club out of Lyon. He’d get game time at Arsenal in a great City with a young manager that’d give him a bit of the Pep coaching experience.

It’s a huge longshot, but at least we’re sniffing around a player like that, versus some bum on the book of a super-agent we really have to try hard to pretend is right fit.

AWAY - LITTLE - WILLIAMSON - MAIER 2.jpg

Joelson has signed a new deal for Sporting Lisbon. Shocker, it was almost like the media was used to get a better deal? Glad that sort of carry-on will be less prevalent moving forward.

The fixtures are OUT.

Fixtures_1920x1080_3.jpg

Well, not the easiest way to open 10 games, but on the positive side of things, we get some of the big away games out the way early on. City, United and Liverpool dusted by October will be handy.

December is also a bit of a monster. It’ll be incredibly physical. All those teams will give us big games, so we’ll have to be in really good shape confidence-wise there. Spurs away after an international break really isn’t handy!

Still, if we’re on for winning the league, from April 10th onwards, we have a nice run of 8 games to close out the season. With this squad of players, it’s imperative we have a good open to the season. We need to be in spitting distance of the top 4 by December because the players need to feel like they’re in the mixer. From there, who knows what will happen.

I FEEL HOPEFUL. That is all a fan can ask for. Well, a fan could also beg for the return of Mo Elneny…? Wait, what?! The Egyptian string-puller is BACK at the club.

Right, see you in the comments x

  1. Uwot?

What? Mo the Egyptian back at the club? Wtf? Our players are like f*** no boomerangs to get rid ffs! As for Aouar it’s going to take at least £35/40 plus Gwen Dozy thrown in for them to consider & we’ll have to move pronto before the big boys start sniffing….

    “Freddie
Is Gabriel going to do the unveiling in his agent’s French mansion?
You don’t seem to be able to differentiate these from citing COVID as a reason while the player was in London a few miles from Arsenal facilities.”

I mean that is a clear possibility.

Doesn’t matter if he’s in London or not, they would have still had to opened up the Emirates with all the staff that would entail. Not a big deal minimizing risks. 14 new cases in the last week in 12 PL clubs btw.

If you want to believe it was all a “power move” from Kia that’s up to you of course.

  3. Rich

Are we better off writing off the domestic cups?

Or going for them, as most clubs won’t be very interested, and it’s a good opportunity to grab some more silverware?

Personally, I’d rather a domestic cup double, over CL qualification.

Winning and competing in cup finals, is much more exciting than finishing top 4

“Shocker, it was almost like the media was used to get a better deal? Glad that sort of carry-on will be less prevalent moving forward.”

Hasn’t this always been a thing, and why would it stop now? Agents/clubs have been using our name to drum up interest or to get a new contract since time immemorial. Is it just going to end now because big bad Raul isn’t there anymore? Sure…

  5. Up 4 grabs now

Evening,There’s talk that arteta has talked AMN into staying.
If that’s the case does anyone think it’s because he might have been promised a shot at a midfield position? As much as xhaka has had a few above average good games, he isn’t the player we need, arteta might be able to improve him, but he can’t make him faster and if he hasn’t learnt not to give away the ball so much in three years he isn’t going to learn now.
Midfield is still a mess, and needs major surgery to make it even vaguely passable.

  6. Champagne Charlie

“It’s a huge longshot, but at least we’re sniffing around a player like that, versus some bum on the book of a super-agent we really have to try hard to pretend is right fit.“

A super agent landed us Pepe, and rid us of Iwobi.

Seems you’ve taken over from Wenger in wanting nothing to do with them, which is kind of odd as we lamented that fact for how many years?

Let’s hope Aouar or Gabriel don’t get their photos done at an agents house..

  7. Up 4 grabs now

My concern about the fixtures are we usually have our season slump in November.
Starting a month later does it mean we struggle December time with six games in 23 days!

No winter break either and the euros in June!

  8. salparadisenyc

Sorry but £30m for Alcantara is a steal, may not be as clear as some stated his move to Liverpool.

    Cockteasers these journos.

I wanna back Radio Raheem’s early Sevilla prediction to take the win but have to think Inter are going to be too much for them, having killer form at the moment.

In the grand finale its a 50-50, surely for Le Groves sake Neymer the man who never shows up for the big occasion walks with the trophy and a MOTM performance. What you think Damiano?

  10. MidwestGun

My friend Damiano tells me Bayern 3-2, Inter 2-1. Inter is on a defensive run.. and won’t give up many goals.

Make these bets or be banished from Le Grove.

  11. Ernest Reed

Not sure on the Away kit, Pedro. Leaves a lot to the imagination – perhaps as a third kit, but not as an away kit. Looks like a slasher film gone wild.

  12. MidwestGun

Also, I like the Marble Halls kit… The hotties above look very attractive in them. And I’m not talking about Side Show Bob and his two Striker cohorts.

  13. Luteo Guenreira

I don’t mind those white kits at all. I’d never buy one or wear one but I don’t think they look bad.

It seems too good to be true that Arsenal would be able to pull off several of these kinds of moves in one summer. The doubt in my heart is still too great but how exciting if true. Would you rather 2 years of Thiago or 5 years of Aouar? I gotta say, any person whose name is 80% vowels is immediately impressive to me.

  14. Jamie

“My friend Damiano tells me Bayern 3-2, Inter 2-1. Inter is on a defensive run.. and won’t give up many goals.”

Is your friend Damiano even a student of the game? Otherwise sorry guy, but no.

  15. WengerEagle

    Sal

Haha I’m rooting for Inter have to say, like me some Conte and I’m a fan of big Rom and Martinez as a pairing. Lukaku is such an underrated hitman to be honest, touch of Bill Cosby about him sure but man knows where the back of the net is and he’s as powerful a CF as you’ll find, decent dribbler too.

I’m backing my mans Neymar to get it done in the Final with the help of M’Bappe, Boateng will be having ‘Nam-esque flashbacks to Messi turning him into a Subway Sandwich with the prospect of Neymar and M’Bappe running at him head on.

  16. Double

Aouar price has apparently gone up 18m after completing 65% of his 32 passes and making 0 tackles in his last game, I hate to think how much it could’ve went up if he actually had a good game against Bayern.

  17. salparadisenyc

    Eagle

I was having a really hard time pin pointing what it was about Lukaku thanks for clearing that up… total Cosby. I’ll go no further with that.

Away kits are fantastic what you guys smoking.

  18. Champagne Charlie

Thought Sevilla were more impressive in the semis, Inter have the players but their tempo and approach was dire.

PSG/Bayern could be fantastic, don’t rate either defence but Bayern have more quality in midfield which could be the telling bit. PSG front 3 is superior, but a lot hinges on Verratti being fit imo, industrious without him. He adds real class.

  19. MidwestGun

Is your friend Damiano even a student of the game?
    _________
My friend watches more football then anyone , so yes, and Gambon said he is World class. So don’t be a dipshit. Make the bet. Cheers!

  20. salparadisenyc

    Double

I though Aouar had a very solid games against Bayern with his side outmatched in nearly every position. Was definitely having the better of Thiago into the second half if Lyon had a finisher on instead of Enkampe we could be having a very different conversation today.

  21. Jamie

“My friend watches more football then anyone , so yes, and Gambon said he is World class. So don’t be a dipshit. Make the bet. Cheers!”

Look dipshit, if you’re a real man, you’ll make the bet with yourself and honour it. Several other posters agree with me. Don’t make me ask Pedro to ban you (irony!!).

Be careful dude, you are straying into “Raulista” territory.

  23. Guns of SF

Im pulling for PSG as well. Underdogs and not won a CL before…
Bayern are heavy favorites so screw that

Gnabry and Lewandowski, keep them marked tight at all times.
Lyon let Gnabry have acres of space to work… no one even tried fouling him to stop him… pathetic

Anyhow, I liked Aouar in the game… with his limited touches he did seem to try and spark things from deep…. did some nice crosses.

Coutinho likely will stay at BM, so I say we should pull hard for Aouar.

  24. MidwestGun

Haha damn it once you go full Bamford.. you can’t stop.. aaargh.. Anyhow, bringing back Elneny into the fold is kind of giving me a sick feeling in my stomach. .. Signing Aouar and another would make me forget about it.

  25. Luteo Guenreira

Bayern for all their domestic dominance and CL history have bottled many big occasions in Europe, think it happens here and I expect them not to show up to their full potential. I think some M’bappe magic makes it happen. 3-2 PSG.

  26. Champagne Charlie

    Azed

Raul was always a cockwomble, just not a fan of the super-agent agenda thing. Arsenal want to be one of the big boys again and we should have no hesitation using these types in football.

They’re tools, but not in the sense being suggested, they’re literal tools. We should be using them, not being worried that they’re using us. Requires good leadership but we can’t swear off dark alleyways in football, we’d have little left.

  27. WengerEagle

    Charlie

Lopetegui has done a superb job with Sevilla. CL spot finish in La Liga with 70 points and a possible EL trophy to boot, all without having a proper goalscorer in the side.

Funny how good and respected managers become meme machines when they fail hard at an elite tier club [not saying we’re elite but we’re certainly a huge club in terms of fanbase and commercial pull]. Look at Lopetegui, Emery, Moyes at Man United, Valverde at Barcelona, Kovac at Bayern, Rodgers at Liverpool, list goes on.

Some don’t recover, Moyes never has.

  28. Jamie

    lol Middy!

I’d still go hard for Coutinho. He played some lovely stuff when he came on last night. Watched the game with a Scouse mate who said he’d have him back at Liverpool in an instant. He remembers how many games Coutinho won for them (his words).

my thoughts are Arsenal should just cut to the chase and headhunt Lille’s chief scout, and save themselves £100 000 000 instead.

talking of PSG- I note they don’t want this Gabriel and they need a center half to replace their captain.

having said that he does look like a modern day center back- despite we are more than well stocked there.

  30. WengerEagle

Very interested to see what happens with Barcelona this summer.

No chance of Messi leaving but do think that a couple of Suarez, Pique, Alba, Busquets will likely be off.

Where Suarez ends up will be interesting. He’s spent physically, past his best and is not at that elite level anymore that has you starting for one of the very elite sides in Europe but he’s still easily a top 10-15 CF and would still walk into most top sides. Ajax are being mentioned as a possible destination but still feel that he has 2 more seasons in a top 5 Euro league before making that kind of move.

  31. DigitalBob

Weagle – Suarez and Busquets have both more or less said they are going nowhere, so it will be interesting to see how Barca reduce the wage bill. I agree Suarez still has more in the tank and surrounded by a bit of pace he could still score at a decent rate across all the top leagues in Europe.

For the finals, I predict an Inter win if its within the 90 minutes, 2-1, if it goes to extra time and beyond, Sevilla will have more in the tank.

I can’t see anything more than a Bayern win by two clear goals, it will take Mbappe and or Neymar(he’s been misfiring quite a bit) to not only be in perfect attacking form but also track back for PSG to get anything out of this game.

  32. Pedro

Azed, I have absolutely no idea about the inner workings of the Nicolas Pepe deal.

What is clear is it seems it’s in every parties interest to move on from the Raul thing and the story they want everyone to believe is that it was a covid restructuring thing.

The only thing I care about is he’s out and based on all the things I know, that is best move we could have made this summer.

Let’s see what Edu and Mikel have lined up!

  33. Champagne Charlie

    Weagle

Yea some managers just ain’t it for the top shelf, they standout a level below. No shame there, but it does make for some meme-worthy stuff along the way.

Barca are a hot mess, Koeman isn’t doing anything but kicking the can imo. Nearly impossible gig to begin with which is why Xavi swerved it. Think they need an Arteta-type culture challenge which is a madness given where they were in recent times.

    Top to bottom overhaul required.

  34. Buzzy

No way we’re getting Auoar…Willian has been signed for a creative attacking midfielder role..We’re going to get Partey though! I have no doubt about that!

  35. Graham62

If Bayern turn up, PSG will be comprehensively beaten.

If Bayern are not on it, PSG will cause them massive problems.

As I said last night, Bayern to win by at least two clear goals.

  37. Batistuta

Inter to win the Europa for me, would cap a good season for them and Lukaku and Martinez with Brozovic behind and Godin Marshalling the defence would be just about enough against a Sevilla who beyond Ocampos and El Nesyr won’t be enough.

Would love PSG to win against Bayern and for Mbappe to complete football before even turning 22

  38. Batistuta

Have to say though, the noise about the club regarding our summer business is quite encouraging and one to get excited about. Just need to make sure we sort that midfield one way or the other

Yeah stickler’s will say he has never won the Euros which he might well next summer but he’ll have virtually won everything for club and country with a CL win.

It’s different now though, getting top 4 and CL will be seen as a stepping stone now and not the end goal. The money we make won’t be spent on Mustafis or Xhakas or fattening up the contract of average players. It will be used to actually strengthen the team.

We have plenty of FA cups, if we want to get back to the top we need to be in the CL again.

Just wouldn’t have been my choice frankly, though he’s as good as anyone with the current disarray at the place. Really hard job on his hands imo.

    Barca have massive issues:

    – academy is drier than a nun
    – board makes our look best in class
    – the Barcelona way is a bit muddy in 2020
    – first team all qualify for bus passes
    – Messi is menopausal
    – they’re selling La Grande Issue to make some coin
    – the expectations are still stratospheric

“There was a time I thought CC was Keyser, no offense intended CC.”

I’m too young to get this reference, but it hurts right here *taps chest* all the same.

“If we get Aouar, we should just call him the vowel man
How do you pronounce that name”

    I think its pronounced How-wah.

You are nothing like Keyser, He legit told me I knew nothing and i should return to typing from my mum’s basement. Like WTF, I had to leave Legrove for a while.

Apparently Gabriel is in London, and there’s pics of Bellerin smoking on holiday with his parents getting flak.

Big W on the Gabriel front, and although I disagree with smoking as a professional athlete…..always find sneaky pics like that pretty grim. Lad was in a restaurant with his mum and dad ffs let him live.

“Only OGs remember QoS.Most spectacular story implosion in Arsenal community history”

Queen of Sarabia, I thought that dude was a lady, spectacular fail all round.

I think most fans would be shocked if they got to really know what goes on in the lives of these footballers.

I think I missed a handful of golden posters, unfortunately the only OG I had the pleasure of was Banford who acted as a founding father to the blog and spoke as if he represented the place.

Early days I kind of fell for that, but when he’d get banned and slander Pedro to journos on Twitter I somehow managed to put two and two together and decipher he probably wasn’t quite how he billed himself.

What happened to the original Gambon?

You know the one named after an animal and an iconic British car brand?

Do you remember that guy “Holmes” trolling the Untold site with a list of his favourite Arsenal legend players that ended up spelling out #PedroKnowsBest
