Transfer round-up because why not?

by .

Well good morning to YOU.

We’re reaching peak shit-show in the media.

Agents are hawking their wares to the journos.

ITKs are hedging their bets.

Fans are lifting up all the rocks for clues.

Everyone is a little frustrated that there’s no clear direction as to where we’re heading this summer.

Clues you should care about.

Madrid don’t want to loan Dani out. They want to have a cheap summer and bring him and Odegaard back. Though apparently he still doesn’t feature in Zidane’s plans. The story is Arsenal tried to get a loan deal where we’d pay only 50% of his £60k a week salary. Worrying opening bid if you ask me. This is the danger of loaning young players, you make them good and important, the price goes up.

Torreira is being linked with a move to Italy, today, it’s Roma in a mooted swap deal for Diawara. I have no idea about the player from Roma, but the football scouts on Twitter seem to think he’s a bit of a nothing player, with the main advantage over Torreira being athletic suitability to the league. This clue matters because I think the club will do whatever they can to move him on this summer, he’ll be a swap.

Thomas Partey rumours are still hanging in the air, though it is now reported he wants £200k a week to join. I don’t blame him, he’s 27, a Champions League midfielder and he’d be moving to Arsenal who are coming out of a mess. That would mean we either pass on him or we move on a player with an equal salary.

Heeeeello Alex Lacazette. The Frenchman is a big name whatever you think of him and he can be relied on for goals. Napoli are holding fast on Milik and reports are that Juve might focus their attention on someone they can get for a better price and maybe even a swap deal. Lacazette earns about £180k a week, he’s a big earner, that might be the key to other big names. Swap deals mooted are Gonzalo Higuain, Douglas Costa, or Cristian Romero.

Cal Chambers is attracting interest from Scotty Parker’s newly-promoted Fulham. The player was relegated there in the past, but he knows the place and he’s well-liked there. Could be a good recuperation loan move, or a decent £12m deal for Arsenal in the climate. We need to move out centre-backs if we want to bring them in. He’s young, he was looking good before the break, but I think we can do better.

Final few…

Aouar for Matteo? Would be nice.

Joelson for a fringe player and a lot of cash? Hmmm? Maybe nice?

Gabriel to choose Napoli over THE MIGHTY GOONERS? No way. Don’t believe it. Finding this Napoli/Lille love-in interesting though.

Right, that’s me done, unleash speculation on my F5!

Swap deals are nearly all likely to be very poor deals and we should stay away from them unless it is for a player we really need. We’ve seen how disastrous it is already by getting Mikhi for Sanchez.

Far too many are being mooted with no benefit whatsoever. Diawara is a nothing player so what’s the point – so we have someone bigger than Torreira? Pointless.

We need to calmly sell these players for cash rather than offload them at any cost.

Chris

The Ronaldo in his PSV/Barcelona/early Inter days was the best striker I have ever seen, bar none. Absolutely electric. Pace, acceleration, flair, finishing all 20/20.

Romario was another whose finishing impressed upon me as a kid growing up, remember him being absolutely clinical a goal getter.

Luteo Guenreira

I don’t think it matters one bit whether it was a phone call or a living room visit, they could have been bathing together for all the difference it did.

Details might be what they are but the point still stands. M’bappe was never going to end up at Arsenal, and he’s another in a long list of the “almost” signed players that Wenger is proud to have spotted but never landed.

curse

Wenger to sign for farca and finally get that cl title! lol, 2020 with loads of petrol still in the tank.

Bojangles

Özil is going nowhere and he’s pissed at Arsenal not backing his comments over the Uighur Muslims in China and the manner in which the pay-cuts were handled.

Sid

Rivaldo is an exception, bebeto, Djalminia edmundo played in nothing leagues, Romario resembles willian more he does Kaka

Im telling you for free!

þorkell einarsson

I would rather move for Danilo Pereira than Partey, and Auba with Promens would
make a dangerous partnership.. also get Gabriel, he looks intelligent and athlectic

Habesha Gooner

Ozil is throwing a fit. May be he was right about those things but he is certainly not staying here to play football anymore. He is just in it for the money.

Radio Raheem

We’ll be watching Partey later but also look out for a player we were linked with last summer, Nkuku (Leipzig). He’s industrious and excellent with set pieces. We’ve should have got it done, he’s a polished version of Torreira.

China1

Ozil laying down a marker saying he will only leave when he wants and expects to see out his contract… wonderful

At least someone’s going to be happy!

Pierre

Let’s hope that that Ozil is being economical with the truth as it won’t look good on the club or the manager if a player or players have been omitted from the team for anything other than ” pure footballing reasons “.

Ozil does make very good points that are difficult to argue against due to the way events have transpired regarding the clubs support for black lives matter and the sacking of 55 lower paid employees

Was Guendouzi one of the players who refused a pay cut?

Pierre

I don’t suppose the interview has done a lot for Ozil’s playing prospects next season, unless the manager backs down .and admits his treatment was harsh …highly unlikely.

Hoksilato

Ornstein still bitter he’s not getting inside info anymore…likes to stir up shit about the Club

https://www.goal.com/en/news/ill-decide-when-i-go-ozil-claims-he-wont-leave-arsenal/1lgxeu6ktm7co13rjf7g65ghot

Don’t you think there is a problem with a player saying he will give everything for the club, while taking 18 mil and knowing he might not kick a ball next season?

Hoksilato

Arseblog right on this:
A LOT to unpack from this, but the main thing that occurs to me is if you’re really, genuinely determined to work hard and get back into the team having been pretty much dumped, you don’t do an interview like this knowing the repercussions and how it will go down internally.

Emiratesstroller

Pierre

I suspect that we are stuck with Ozil for next 10 months and he will be on “gardening leave”.

We are in similar position that Real Madrid find themselves in with Bale.

Reading his statement it highlights the power that high paid footballers are in.
The player can sit on his hands if he does not want to leave or force himself out of a club when he does want to leave. The decision is entirely in hands of
player.

Pierre

Habesha
An hour and half ago you said maybe Ozil was right ( he was) , so it would probably be better to question the club’s stance.

Pedro

“Everyone is a little frustrated that there’s no clear direction as to where we’re heading this summer”

I think that can be said about many other Football clubs and businesses at present.

The thing is with Arsenal, this lack of transparency has become the norm ever since we moved to the Emirates.

Dream10

Excellent interview with Özil by David Ornstein.

Atalanta PSG was a terrific match. The one leg affairs might be a the forward you know
Unlikely to happen because of money and big clubs more likely to advance over two legs

Captain Tierney

Un Mbappe did fairly well yesterday with no technical midfield behind him. Also his dad wanted about a few million quids which was/is really pennies for us. But later Mbappe came out saying he rejected Arsenal move. Nobody knows the whole truth tbh but if it were due to the third party fees then probably has to be Arsene’s greatest mistake. We missed out on top talents due to this attitude of Le Prof but Mbappe will surely go down as the biggest ever. Even if his dad demanded 20mil it would have been a Real Bargain given just how… Read more »

With a wee bit of help from his advisors(agents).

This is why the game no longer has the appeal it once had.

Clubs now play second fiddle to players and their agents.

The words that hit me hardest in the Ozil interview were- ‘“In America, we saw George Floyd killed and the world spoke up to say Black Lives Matter, and that is correct. We are all equal and it’s a good thing that people fight against injustice. There are a lot of black players and fans of Arsenal and it’s fantastic the club is backing them. “But I wish people would have done the same for the Muslims because Arsenal have many Muslim players and fans as well, and it is important for the world to say that Muslim Lives Matter.”’… Read more »

I was talking about his stance on the pay cuts and on Uighur muslims. I didn’t say he was right in choosing to sit on his ass for money. I asked you about that. Way to dodge a question.

Hoksilato

Which big Club in the World has publicly taken a stance on the Uigur issue ??????
Genuine question

Pierre

Habesha
Same answer.

It’s the club you should question.

Will just add that he has only been ” sitting on his arse” for 6 weeks or so due to his refusal to accept a pay cut, a stance in which you agree with.

Tom

Which big Club in the World has publicly taken a stance on the Uigur issue ??????
Genuine question

———-
A better question might be which Muslim country has taken a stance on the Uighur issue while condemning China ?????

Pierre

No doubt , as the day progresses we will get the usual ” lazy c*nt” comments from fred, Marko and champagne Charlie, instead of giving Ozil’s comments the respect they deserve.

I think it should be noted that Ozil, to his credit, kept his thoughts to himself so as not to disrupt the season.

Captain Tierney

Okay so you only need to take a right stance on injustice if other people do it first.
Great

Terraloon

It’s interesting how some take comments one way and some the other. I actually thought he had some valid points. Like Bale he isn’t wanted but who in their right mind would just walk away from such a huge contract. A contract that Arsenal willingly agreed to. For me one of the most interesting points was about the pay cut. To date only one players name has been put out their and that increasingly points to a club source being the likely leak or shall I say premeditated leak. Arteta clearly has staked his fledgling reputation by intervening in the… Read more »

Double news:

The ’27 years old’ wants a £200,000 weekly pension.
I guess the zombie squad would say give him the money.

Then Arsene Wenger has reportedly just rejected Barcelona. And to think it has been said here he couldn’t get a job at Aberdeen.

Two piece of news I expect leader Peh Dro Jong Ho must do service to in his next ‘promote Arteta/ bash Emery’ editorial.

Captain Tierney

‘Nobody wants politics barging into football.’

Thats what. Either you dont take a stance on anything or you take a stance on everything.

Hoksilato

Captain T
Nobody is saying that it is great that AFC did not get involved… but i think that the fact pretty much nobody did in football (one reason:commercial potential first)- City, PSG, Barca, Real,….makes it really harsh to slam the club continuously for it. Why the agenda with Arsenal ?
Yes we are not much more virtuous than others

Trask

Bet that waster never plays a game for Arsenal again

Tom

Why is Ozil holding Arsenal to a higher standard on protecting Muslim lives than the Muslim-majority countries who, not only stayed silent on the Uighur issue but actively helped China keep it out of worlds view by blocking the UN motion for independent observers?
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia,Egypt, Algeria, UAE and many others.
Why isn’t Ozil putting pressure on these countries or Turkey for that matter , I think we all know the answer.

Ozil clearly doesn’t have issues with Arteta but the management of the club, at this stage its a mutual feeling I think and they’ll want him gone ASAP but he also realizes the only he way he can hit them hard is sitting his ass down and fleecing every penny of that fat wage from the club till the last day of his contract

Really a messy situation all around, far worst than Bale’s at Madrid

He’s not going anywhere and its only likely to get worse.

Hok I understand the the reason (💸) clubs dont take a stance on China or many other atrocities happening around the world but Arsenal were forced into the issue and completely dissociated from it. Clubs around world football were forced into acting against or support the BLM movement due to the massive attention it got and many active players taking a strong stance on it. It started small and then all the leagues were supporting the cause which was beautiful to see. The Uighur issue was similar to the BLM , but only for Arsenal as they were the club… Read more »

Ozil has always held all the cards, assuming he doesn’t mind sitting out the remainder of his contract ,which is clear as day that he doesn’t.
What PR strategy could the club pursue and be successful at against a player who doesn’t mind not playing the game he professes to love while well in his prime years?

Gentlebris

‘2. Strip him of his squad number and demote him to the under23s where he must not miss a single game or training otherwise get fined repeatedly and for any other offence’

From where I sit here, the club has just the one option which is pay him off pending on if he’ll agree to that

There is so much legal implication in that second option that I’m not sure the club will go that road not to mention the potential of turning the season to shit for us

He’s got all the cards here, sorry

Emiratesstroller

Ozil’s football career at top level is now over with absolutely no prospect of any
major club employing him and paying the level of wages that he is currently earning.

Ozil will either land up playing for a mickey mouse team most probably in Turkey or USA.

Otherwise he will just become a Beckham style personality earning shed loads
of money from making personal appearances or turning out on tv.

Sitting down his ass and making him do something with any club like what Utd made Sanchez did with Inter amicably would have been more reasonable for all parties

Raul would have completely lose the little credit he has left by the time this is over

China1

Ozil cares about standing up for what’s right about Muslims but not for the behavior of his best buddy Erdogan

People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. If he wasn’t mates with a dictator he might actually have a point but oh well

Trask

Yea would choose to pay him off as well

Less clumsy

Would be criminal to let it remain as is though. Even if it would not be that much of a distraction, it still doesnt pay to have Arteta deflect unending questions about the situation

Tom

The Uighur issue is not like the BLM issue.
The league decided to support the BLM movement because it offends no one but a few white guys , but speaks out against no country, a specific government ,or organization. In short, it won’t hurt anyone’s bottom line.
Taking a stance on Uighur’s atrocities makes you a target of the Chinese government and will definitely hurt you financially.
That’s why all the Muslim countries stayed silent on the issue.

China1

The idea that ozil is governed by some kind of moral compass is hilarious

A guy who is literally best mates with a dictator and who will quite gladly take 18m from the club he ‘loves’ for gardening leave.

Maybe he should spend his time talking to his best mate and encouraging him to take more Muslim refugees instead.

Victorious

He’s seen as a bad apple here and should be nowhere near the squad next season, if it drags on it could potentially dent the new campaign before it begun

They’ve got to resolve it one way or the other

Gentlebris

Ozil exited the national team only after it was clear to him that he had been technically expelled from the team, then he talked lots of shit to the media against the German setup, pulling all sorts of racial sentiments against Germany. He’s attempting same with Arsenal and it would be a shame if the guys in charge don’t make him pay.
