Toss-up NLD as usual

by .

Well good evening to you ALL.

Big news on the bond front. Stan has paid of Arsenal’s debt foooooooor… stability moving forwards. It doesn’t affect Mikel Arteta’s bleak summer ahead. I mean, really, did you think Stan was just going to drop a cool £100m on the squad to take advantage of the lowest market since the great depression of 1929? Absolutely not.

The AST have an excellent assessment here. My take is that Stan is now getting paid by the club and probably taking a lower interest rate over a longer period of time. Helpful that we don’t have to keep cash in the banks and great that our interest rates are much lower. Still doesn’t mean we’re balling out with the big names this summer.

The North London Derby is coming this week. I expect a proper Mourinho performance. Forget about the bleak football, lack of shots, and general misery around our rivals. He’s coming to party this weekend and the team had best be at their very best otherwise we’ll get beaten and the post-match story will be ‘never underestimate Jose.’

Arteta and Jose have had a similar season. Both picked up teams at low ebbs, both have had a mixed bag with results, injuries and luck. Our man acknowledged as much.

They have had some ups and downs but overall you can clearly see what he wants to bring to the club. He manages the energy, the momentum and establishes a really strong culture in every football club. As well, he makes sure that he wins and he’s won in every single club that he’s been at. Obviously the situation and the timing when he arrived is different than starting a new project right from the summer, but I’m sure he will be successful because he always finds the right way to do it. It will take him a bit of time but I’m sure he will do it.

Still, what can’t be denied is we’ve looked pretty decent and on the up… and they haven’t. We still haven’t had a great 90minutes start to finish. Is there a better time to demonstrate that we are capable? No. The moment is now, so let’s see what we have.

Mikel Arteta was goaded about 7 times into calling Jose a past-it-melt, but he held back, basically saying he’s a world-class manager. Smart move really.

I think a derby has a completely different context to what is happening with the current form and anything like that. I have huge respect for Jose, for what he’s trying to do there, and we know to go there and get a win we’re going to have to do everything really, really well. I’m expecting a really tough game.

I agree. Spurs could be at the bottom of the table and this would still be a tough game. They have a great squad of players and elite talent built to make your weekend miserable. Harry Kane, Son, and Bergwijn can all do damage. I’m quite pleased Alli and Celso are out.

So what can we expect? I think it’ll be a similar approach to the one we saw from Wolves. They’ll defend deep, expect a mistake, and try and kill us on the counter. They obviously have more quality, so we need to be careful. They won’t need many chances to kill us.

This will be another huge game for our midfield and wide players. We need to play smart and stick to the game plan. Hopefully, the team is a little more confident after the first half against Leicester and we take the game to them. It’s a big away game, if we win there, who knows what we might take to the Liverpool game.

Before I go, interesting that some outlets are saying Matteo wants to stay but not apologise, whilst Canal+ is running with the idea of letting Aouar go with an eye on our bad boy replacing him. Swap? I mean, it’d be rude not to have a chat.

Short post today, have a great evening, see you tomorrow! x

Huh, come on Pedro!!! really!

For the first time after couple of season i am optimistic about this one, regardless of what Jose can do we should be getting results in this game, because 1st Spurs aren’t in a good state of mind, 2nd we were loosing in the past to Mourinho teams because of tactical flexibility.
Now we have a young coach hungry to prove and I believe he will go to to toe with Mourinho Tactical Wise. COYG.

”having a better squad than last seasons Champions League finalists?” really Pedro

You are going to throw that in our face,
1. Score that penalty Aguero in a first leg and we would have not be talking about this now
2.Ajax Collapse.

Reaching a final was great, but luck also played a big part in it and their achievement was against all odds which means they pulled above their weight. Other than that no souce, in that team may be I would take Kane Ndombele and Toby all the rest are just average.

bacaryisgod

Quick thoughts on Ozil. He’s clearly just pissing all over the club at this point. I’m glad that Arteta has drawn a line in the sand. Just let him rot until he leaves next year on a free. We can always restructure deals with players like Auba to stagger their wages after Ozil leaves (eg. instead of 250k per week for 3 years, it can be 150k, 250k, 350k). It won’t change a thing for Auba but will give us flexibility. Just think how nice it will be to have that money after Ozil slinks off. Such a shame because… Read more »

Someone in lily white will dive, and they will get a very soft penalty which Kane will convert, as usual against us, possibly with another Arsenal red card, so to get a result, such events will have to be factored in , as I am sure Arteta is aware, whatever he says in public

RockyRoe

Pretty certain kane will score AGAIN, just like vardy, these 2 always have our number.

Also pedro, the whole deflated market bit isin’t seem to be happening if the few deals that have happened around the world are any indication. Early days to confirm either ways though.

They’ll probably use Lucas Moura’s speed against Xhaka. Looking for Xhaka to fault him multiple times.

I’m a glass half full kind of guy but Mourinho has got our number. 2-1 Spurs and I’ll be happy with anything other than a loss.

Leftfootcurler

I expect us to smash Spurs in the first half and then tire out in the 2nd half. We are not fit enough, athleticism in the squad is not good enough to play the football Arteta wants us to play. If we don’t take our chances in the first half,Spurs has a good chance to win against a tired team. And,Spurs clearly has a much better squad than arsenal. I think Arsenal’s squad is the 7th best in the league.Spurs is 4th best. Jose can defend deep all he wants but his low block has been shit at Spurs. Arsenal… Read more »

Somewhere on Arsenal twitter, I read that when Tierny first showed up last summer, he trained as he played, full throttle, but other players were used to more lax training regime of Wenger and Emery and so Tierney was asked to not train so hard.

Apparently Arteta likes how Tierney trains and has allowed to him train at full speed again. We need more players like the Scot.

Mustafi new deal totally deserved. If he keeps on playing like he had under Artets then he will be a starter for years to come.
Just hope the deal doesn’t come with a pay rise as he is already on near about 100k a week which is more than fair for him

China1

I think it’s a big mistake to offer mustafi a new deal You don’t go from being somewhere between average and awful to a quality player in a few months. He still has a calamitous error in him and he’s been lucky recently that they’ve not been punished is all. I think Arteta has the wenger style dreamy idea of coaching average players into a title winning team which is imo really naive. New contracts for everyone as long as you have a good attitude. It’s all far too easy imo If we want to be a club competing for… Read more »

I think people forget that mustafi was always a very professional player with a great attitude and a very hardy battler kind of playing style He also always played well for 85 minutes in most matches. That’s not new to arteta’s reign But none of that means anything if he makes one or two really dumb mistakes a game which he’s made plenty under Arteta. The only difference is he’s been very lucky that mistakes he’s made in recent months didn’t usually lead to a goal because of factors entirely outside of his own making I remember when Arteta first… Read more »

Also mustafi’s credit is based on what? A handful of quite solid performances? 3+ years of not good enough can be erased in a handful of decent games? Not for me Any player can have a good run of form, just like any player can have a bad run of form. Play well for 18 months and you can be taken seriously as a quality looking player. A couple of good games here or there means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. If we think back to our title winning teams, we didn’t have any players like him… Read more »

Being totally honest , Mustafi has always been a very good defender. The question under Wenger then Emery always was can he iron out his mistakes.
And he has to a great extent done exactly that under Arteta. The mistakes are few and far between. The last game he wasn’t playing well Arteta subbed him off at half time.
Lets not forget Mustafi has always been a starter for us since joining bar a spell under Emery.

To get a grip on Stan’s motives you have to separate the self-made multibillionaire money-maker from the sports enterprises ego-tripper.

Stan the money-maker would not have bought AFC, kept Usmanov at arms length, refused his offer to invest, pumped up the value of Arsenal shares prior to an Usmanov buy-out, kept Wenger on as manager, ignored the Arsenal fans…well, everyt stupid thing that he’s done. The unfortunate reality China is this trying to make good on dodgy players tell us that Arsenal are still only gunning for 4th place at best atm or best case scenario 3rd place if others fail badly and enough of them.
