Terminate him.

by .

Wow, I am totally humbled today, like, every person that read yesterday’s post agreed? First time ever. Totally wild.

Just kidding, the best people on the internet agreed, the worst did not.

Let’s crack into today’s post (note, I drank some beer before penning this tragically bad word vom).

Arsenal, according to the press, are about to TERMINATE the contract of Mikhi. Sounds brutal, but apparently the deal is that we cut him loose and Roma will give him a contract that equals what he had before. Can you complain that we didn’t get a fee? Maybe. But this is the new world and I find it INCREDIBLE that any club in the world is willing to shell out £180k a week on a name that has done fuck all for 4 years, that is now 31. £10m a year for Mikhi? Madness.

That is the power of Raiola. If this were an Arsenal deal, I’d be FEWMING. I reckon their melt fans are saying, ‘well, a couple of bad deals from a super-agent probably means we’re due an exciting elite youngster.’

This might be the way many clubs operate this summer. I’m expecting that sort of deal for Mesut Ozil. It might be tougher with him because no club in world football will offer close to £350k a week for a player that doesn’t like away games, but the German MIGHT consider getting a termination if a club out there wants to offer him the security of a 3-year deal, even at a lower rate. Maybe Team Fortnite has a place for him?

I watched all 17 minutes of the Mikel Arteta prezzer before the Norwich game today. There wasn’t a lot to chew on.

  • Ozil and Matteo need to give a little more in training to be considered
  • Norwich will fight for their lives
  • Arteta really, really likes Soares and values his delivery in the final third of the pitch (POOR HECTOR (thought true))
  • He offered a broad statement of love for Saka and Balogan

The press is focusing on this section of chat.

“I’m expecting a player that is not playing to feel hurt and disappointed,”

“I believe he’s not very happy because he’s not playing, but as well he picked up an injury the other day and we have to wait and see how he evolves.”

“Everybody that I have in the squad, my job is to get the maximum out of them and to try and help them and support them. And if they are willing, everybody is welcome. I always hope that the players want to give their best.”

I’m not sure Mesut feels, but it’d be nice if the conversation pre-game wasn’t about his lack of interest in being a good professional, but here we are.

Back to real talk.

Am I about the get hyped on Cedric Soares because Mikel said I should BE EXCITED?

You’re damn right I am. Best right-back in the Kia portfolio. THE FUTURE.

St. Etienne publicly slew/slayed Arsenal for not letting Saliba play a cup final which would cost Arsenal a £2.5m loan fee.

Absolute double melts on toast. Clearly reeling because their cougar fiend of a Prez cancelled the football season for Euro brownie points. Get over it lads, it’s done, you looked covid in the eye and jumped the incoming two-footed challenge.

I don’t quite understand what sort of contract madness Huss Fahmy put in place here, but it sounds like a mental clause. Bit of a worry that we’re going to take a teenager out of a cup final; like, why wouldn’t the French club just waive the fee? He’s their best defender? Stupid.

Transfer talk?

Mikel had this to say on Matteo.

“When Arsenal picked him to come here its because they could obviously see the potential & the qualities Matteo has. When you are developing, the curve is not normally so much straightforward, you have to have some bumps & you have to adapt to it”

Yep, life is a rollercoaster, you just got to ride it. What I’m reading into this is the Frenchman is one of the few sexy assets we have to work with this summer. I suspect he’ll make a great makeweight with an elite club. Could he be the midfielder that allows Atleti to justify moving on Thomas Partey? Maybe. The rumours are still hot that the Ghanaian and Upemacano are our primary targets. I’d love it if that were true. Maybe Lacazette is the RPL for Werner?

Back to the game.

If we beat the carrot crunchers, we’ll leapfrog Sheff U, Burnley and Spurs into 7th. The hope – and it’s a wild one based on form – is that we’ll be within 6 points of Wolves and United going into the weekend. We’ll then have the chance to close the gap on Nuno if we beat his excellent side. It’s one game at a time, but two wins in the next two games at least puts us in the mixer.

I don’t hold out much hope, but I’ll always dream.

Short post today.

No chance we’ll buy Upa after signing Mari and extending Luiz, that would be mad even by our standards.

Good riddance to Mikhi, another awful piece of business. If Saka extends that’s good news though, it’ll be interesting if we are able to find out what his new terms are (hopefully a decent basic wage with a lot of incentives rather than idiotically offering a large basic wage with no clauses).

Soares? Guess we will see. Would be nice if people just kept an open mind rather than pre-judge based on various agendas about the coach and executive team.

    Statement from Arsenal…

“Throughout our discussions with St Etienne, our aim has been to protect the welfare of William Saliba as well as the interests of Arsenal Football Club, while honouring the terms of the loan.

“Despite the loan ending on June 30, we were willing to find a way for William to play in the [French] cup final on July 24, despite having no contractual obligation to do so.

“As William is returning from injury, we asked that St Etienne follow a clear training plan with William in close collaboration with us, to ensure he is fully fit for the start of next season.

“To our surprise we were unable to reach agreement to this plan which was proposed by our medical experts, and we are simply not prepared to risk the welfare of an Arsenal player.

“While it was not our primary concern, and ultimately not relevant as our training plan was not accepted, we also expected not to be financially disadvantaged by extending the loan. This was also not acceptable to St Etienne.

“We know this is a disappointment for William but he understands we are working to protect his long-term interests and those of Arsenal.”

  3. andy1886

Feels a bit like lighting a fuse but here goes…

Pierre, now that it seems that MA isn’t in the Mesut fan club after all what is the solution? You would think that a player at the back end of his career would want to play so it’s obviously no good for any of the parties involved, how does everyone move on from this?

  4. PieAFC

Hahaha. Got my bearings mixed up yesterday, days all over the place.

Covid eh. All day, was talking the Leicester game with mates. Skipping the previous two with Norwich and Wolves.

We’ve got to win convincingly against Norwich today, they are awful away from home. Offer nothing up front with Puuki. Showing his true career form. Always been a bit part player, looked so lethargic and off the pace against United.

    Anyway. The right game.

  5. Mr Serge

I agree with Andy we have too many cb unless we are selling a couple we need to overhaul our cm anyway partey and the salburg kid would be amazing

  6. Wasi

Pedro going from Soares a waste of 5 mil and 4 yeard. Fraud Raul. Leech Kia.

Finally realising Arteta signed Soares and going all nuts and sharing YT clips. The irony and agenda at display here is astonishing.

Anyways Soares looks a much better RB than Bellerin .( At least from the YT clips which I ofc checked after that Arteta prezzer)

  7. Emiratesstroller

My reaction to Mhitaryan departure as I posted on previous thread is more or less the same as yours.

We are writing off his wage bill and that is a good thing. If we had not got in a
mess over Sanchez and Ozil we would never have recruited this player, paid him an inflated wage or signed the ridiculous contract with Ozil.

As I posted a clear message has been sent to Ozil that he will no longer play
for Arsenal. He is for all intents and purposes more or less on gardening leave.

Most clubs will not touch Ozil with a barge pole, but my guess is that a message has gone out to the Turkish President and Fernebarce that if they
want the player and are willing to pay the bulk if not all his wages then Arsenal
will offer them the same deal.

Offloading £27-28 Million from our wage bill will free up funds and more importantly allow Arteta to recruit younger and hungrier players.

I have always maintained that Arsenal’s priority this summer is to offload much of the dross and unrealistic wages.

I do think that Arsenal will bring in two or perhaps three new first X1 players
in this window once the season is over. Despite all the negatives I think that
the club does have money to spend.

All the messages pleading poverty were spun last season and yet we concluded transfers totalling almost £150 million albeit in many cases on instalment plans.

I expect a similar programme this summer.

  8. Receding Hairline

Well at least we have cleared up that one, Mari and Soares weren’t Kiaed on Arteta, he wanted them and is excited to work with them. Lets hope they both stay fit and offer up more consistency in performances than the guys they met here.

Nacho Monreal wasn’t a world beater but you know what you get from him 9 times out of 10.

As for the Saliba thing, Saint Etienne are just greedy punks.

Norwich are the type of opponents that let you play so we should hope to see a performance as well as a result this evening

  9. CG

    “”””Fair enough, fuck St Etienne.”””””

If our man Wenger was still at the club, we would not have had this St. Etienne stand off, and the tawdry scenes now being played out.

A deal would have been reached for Saliba to play in the French cup final for his boyhood team.

Its a shame for St. Etienne but more importunity a shame for Saliba too.

I am guessing he might not be appearing in another cup final for a while- so this one would have been a brilliant experience for him.

But That’s Raul Arsenal for you.

  10. lari03

    Good morning!

I think now that Saka’s due to renew his contract, we can focus on getting a deal for Aubameyang, but we must sell Lacazette this summer. I like Alex Lacazette but it really should be time up for him and Guendouzi.

We really need reinforcements in the midfield area ahead of next season. Partey, Szobsolai or a decent midfielder in place of Guendouzi.

Upamecano is not so important if we cannot improve our midfield options.

  11. China1

Wasi I wouldn’t read too much into YouTube clips

I’m fairly sure if you search for any of ozil, mustafi, xhaka, even Igor stepanovs you’ll be met with a torrent of ‘best bits’ videos that make them all look like the next coming of pele

Chamakh was the only player I ever saw who even looked bad in his YT best bits before we signed him LOL

Half the clips were him narrowly missing from 8 yards, hitting the post etc. next level best bits haha!

  12. China1

If saliba is back now can he be fit to play this season?

Maybe wishful thinking and I dunno the league timeline but if he can be 100% fit I’d give him minutes

  13. CG

“”””I have always maintained that Arsenal’s priority this summer is to offload much of the dross and unrealistic wages.””””””

    Thats all well and good.

But at the same time – we have offered a 4 year deal to a 29 year old – yet to play an Arsenal game- but already deemed by our young manager as the best full back we have at the club

And extended Luiz ‘s contract despite having 9 (NINE) other center backs on the payroll.

And offered Mari- another 4 years. Despite him coming up lame in his first difficult fixture at Manchester City,

(that left foot did look splendid against Portmouth though,)

    Looks to me ES.

Dross going OUT equates to more Dross coming IN!

The way our Dopes are handing out these contracts- you doubt if they have even heard of Covid-19

  14. Gonsterous

Wishful thinking Pedro, I’m still predicting we will finish 9th this season. A blessing in disguise if you ask me.

Sort out the midfield in the summer/Autumn.

  15. Guns of Brixton

Pretty sure the Turkish giants would be more than happy to take in Ozil albeit on a far smaller wage package.

I don’t doubt for a second there is interest in him. Shame here is that he will join the long list of quality players (or quality on paper at least) that ll leave us for a bloody pittance of a transfer fee.

We need to sell these damn assets at more better prices than we ve done in the past

  16. Graham62

    From previous blog.

Your take on having a British ethos at the club is so true.

Ever since we lost our BRITISHNESS, we’ve lost our way.

Campbell, Cole, Parlour, Adams, Keown, Seaman etc were key to our clubs success.

Tierney has the same qualities. Tenacity, hunger, passion, commitment (providing he stays injury free).

It’s something engrained into the British culture and is desperately needed at all levels of the clubs infrastructure.

German/Spanish/French/Italian/Dutch/Portuguese/Russian teams have it. We don’t.

Arsenal is a British club but has become a foreign institution.

Oops! Am I allowed to say this?

  17. Matt

Daily mail reporting we are interested in Thiago Silva and drawing the link as to one of the reasons why we signed Luiz extension…

  18. andy1886

Jamie, I wasn’t familiar with St Germain (ignorant of me I know) but if I’m honest the Wiki description stating ‘combination of House and Nu Jazz music’ isn’t really selling it to me…..

  19. CG

“”””Arsenal is a British club but has become a foreign institution.”””””

Arsenal is a British club with continental spivs, yankee cowboys and south american chancers ripping and gnawing at its carcass.

They will all get their comeuppance in the court of Arsenal public opinion.

  20. Guns of Brixton

Im all in for Memphis Depay to be honest.

Twitter claiming Arteta wants him if we lose Auba or Laca.

Depay and Pepe on each flank does sound tantalising on paper at least

  21. Leedsgunner

The fact that we couldn’t manage even a £5m fee for Mkhitaryan tells you Raul is nowhere near as good as he was hailed to be when he arrived.

The super agents are the ones with real power… and if the Mari and Soares deals demonstrate they are making a mint out of us for not doing very much.

  22. Wasi

Yeah right. Judging a defender fron YT clips is crazy. The thing is Hector is a pretty average defender and pretty poor on the ball. What YT clips show is that Soares is good (better) on the ball than Bellerin and also has a good cross in him.
And I’m pretty sure he can defend as good as Bellerin at least given his experience.
    Hence that statement.

Still waiting to know who was the last Brit to win PL.
Also you seem pretty adamant that we wasted money on Soares and now you want us to give a favor to St. Etienne and pay for it too. Mind Boggling.

  23. azed

I’m not sure we can afford anything more than a pack of Tesco chips right now.

To get someone like Depay, we might have to sell a few players and some kidneys.

  24. azed

There’s no way we were going to get any money for Mkhitaryan or Ozil.
Getting Mkhitaryan off the wage bill is a huge win for us and I’m so glad we didn’t even have to pay Roma to do it.

  25. Ishola70

He’s a hero whoever thought adding Mhiki to a team that already included Ozil was a good idea.

    Outright hero.

lol I remember the angle that was given when Mhiki joined. It was that Mourinho was a nasty man expecting some work rate off him and that he was now leaving and joining Arsenal who would welcome him with open arms and show the world that United were ant-football while Arsenal were the opposite.

    Turned it well didn’t it.

Hey Mhiki you’ve been so shit, you’ve been so shit, you’ve blown my mind. Hey Mhiki! Hey Mhiki!

He put in one really worthwhile all round performance both on and off the ball against Spurs at Wembley.

    Bye Mhiki.

  26. Nelson

I have read reports on Soares from some Southampton fans. He is supposed to be good going forward and weak defensively. Arteta must have evaluated this player before signing him. He may be good as a wing back.Hope to see him play today.

  27. Dissenter

I remember when it suited the certain posters here to poopoo reports that Mykhi’s wages are in the 180-200k weekly range.
We traded 5 more months of Alexis 130k weekly wages for 4 years of Mykhi’s 180k wages.
In fairness to Wenger, he wasn’t part of that swap deal, his role in the mess was sabotaging the sale of Alexis to city in the previous summer.

  28. Nelson

Mhiki played quite well for the Roma team. He played the ACM position. He is also the captain of the national team. He is not a bad player. It just didn’t work out for him in UK.

  29. Trap

    Just in

Mino raiola pays arsenal penalty fee for termination of mhkitaryan contract doing the rounds on the net and Italian media outlets.

Some of y’all speak to quick ……

  30. Leftfootcurler

I am glad and very surprised tbh that we could terminate mkhi in this market.

I don’t want arsenal to sign upamecano. He is very good on the ball but cannot defend.

It would be a disaster. But I really doubt whether there is any truth to this rumour.

Why extend Mari and Luiz’s stay here, then?

  31. CG

“”””Also you seem pretty adamant that we wasted money on Soares and now you want us to give a favor to St. Etienne and pay for it too. Mind Boggling.””””

Well anyone with a footballing brain knows Cedric is a poor acquisition.
Liverpool would have bought him if he could play. They buy all of Saints best players.

Giving him a 4 yearer when we are still in the middle of Corona is lunacy.
And MA is complicit in it.

As for Saliba. He might never get an opportunity to play in another Cup final again.

So I am coming from his viewpoint not St Ettiene’s.

  32. Uwot?

If & its a very wishful thinking IF we come away this window with Partey, upamencano & szosablai in the bag I might cream my pants.Add dumping a few bits of the deadwood & id say we’re moving nicely in the right direction.Remember Rome wasn’t built on a day……

  33. Guns of Brixton

“To get someone like Depay, we might have to sell a few players and some kidneys”

    Success demands great sacrifice 👀

And you can live fine with only one 😀

  34. Ishola70

That Mhiki has some talent makes it worse that he was an overall a failure of a signing.

Truth be told he is another flower player and it was a very bad idea to bring him in when we already had a player like Ozil who is a similar flower player.

  35. Ishola70

The alarm bells should have started ringing as soon as Mhiki started whinging at Man Utd. But no not heeded.

Yet another player “suited” to the european football rather than EPL.

  36. Pierre

Roma want Mhkitaryan because he is a very good player if used correctly.

I’m afraid that Emery arriving put paid to Mhkitaryan’s career at Arsenal.

  37. Freddie Ljungberg

    Oh shut up Pierre.

Mikhi has been a failure his whole PL career, at Man U, under Wenger and under Emery.
The less intense nature of Serie A seems to suit him so good riddance, another terrible transfer from Monsieur Ditherer.

  38. Pierre

The fact is that Emery only ever played Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ozil and Mhkitaryan together once in his time at Arsenal.

At home to liverpool it was, who were flying at the time , it was a 1-1 draw and was considered as one of out better performances during that season.

  39. Pierre

“Mikhi has been a failure his whole PL career, at Man U, under Wenger and under Emery.”

Mhkitaryan 2017/18, the season he joined Arsenal.

    Played 26
    Scored 3
    Assists 9

That’s a goal or assists nearly every other game.
Compare that to what we have now and I doubt if the whole of our midfield have 12 goals and assists between them.

  40. CG

“””Roma want Mhkitaryan because he is a very good player if used correctly.”””

    Agreement Pierre.

The Armenian can play- thats why Champion league regulars Roma
    want him.

    His CV.

    Dortmund/Man Utd/Roma/Arsenal

    Arsenal 39 games 8 goals
    Roma 15 games 6 goals

the game is all about management.
and getting the best out of your players at your disposal.

  41. Receding Hairline

Used correctly is Pierre’s code for allowing forward players have zero defensive contributions in games. Just stay up there and wait for the grafters to get you the ball.

  42. azed

    Dropped Ozil &#10004
Played three at the back &#10004
    Lacazette not a starter &#10004
Initiates attack from the wings &#10004

Looks like Arteta is doing some of the things Emery did. We can therefore assume he would not have played Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ozil and Mkhitaryan together.

  43. China1

It’s a shame for saliba about the loan but if it benefits arsenal in our time of desperation then sell my soul and call me Christie

    IDAF lol

  44. Dissenter

It makes sense that Mykhi will have to give up something to terminate his contract one year early.
A contract is binding to both parties, maybe we just don’t know the full details.

  45. azed

    Dropped Ozil ✔

Looks like Arteta is doing some of the things Emery did. We can therefore assume he would not have played Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ozil and Mkhitaryan together.

  46. Pierre

Emery , in his wisdom, binned Mhkitaryan, Ramsey and Ozil , as well as Wilshere and Cazorla.

Will add that Emery preceded to play Torreira in every midfield position other than the one he thrives at.

And people wonder why it went wrong.

  47. Freddie Ljungberg

Pepe has 5 goals 6 assists in 26 games in his first season in the PL, 7 of them was as a sub btw.

That’s under 3 different managers while adapting to a new country and league.

Compare that to Mikhis only decent season if you want but he’s 31 and that’s the best he has done so far and it’s unlikely to get better from there. I’m sure he’ll do fine in Serie A but keep him away from Arsenal.

  48. Pierre

“the game is all about management.
and getting the best out of your players at your disposal.”

  49. Freddie Ljungberg

Mhkitaryan, Ramsey and Ozil , as well as Wilshere and Cazorla.

5 players in 2 positions, 3 of them crocks, the other 2 useless. Earning a combined salary of 850k ish a week. Yeah, totally the wrong thing to do. I’m sure we would have been able to move forward with those cement boots around our feet.

  50. Receding Hairline

Mhki made 38 appearances in all competition under Emery scoring six goals.

He didn’t fancy the tracking back and was more interested in making a political statement in the final of a competition we needed to win badly.

One of my favorite players back in his Dortmund days but not suited to the English game. Like Ishola said shouldn’t have been brought here when we were already battling with Ozil

  51. Dissenter

Pierre is one of the posters that demonstrated an irrational hatred for Emery from the very first day. 7 months after his exit, he’s still showing that delusional hatred.
He missed the targets narrowly in his first season and lost control in the second season. He absolutely deserved his sack.
Ozil is doing to Arteta exactly what he did to Emery. He started strong then gets dropped from the team.

  52. Pierre

    Receding Hairline
“Used correctly is Pierre’s code for allowing forward players have zero defensive contributions in games. Just stay up there and wait for the grafters to get you the ball.”

It’s always wise for the quality players to reserve their energy for when they most need it ….when they are in possession of the football.

    I don’t remember seeing Henry, Messi , Ronaldo .

I note that Aubameyang’s goals have dried up , his worst ever goalless run.

It could be due to the fact that he is expending too much energy doing the things that he is not very good at .

  53. Dissenter

Wasn’t Mykhi the one who couldn’t be even bothered to show up in Baku? He chose to grandstand for the Armenian domestic audience over showing up for the job that pays him 180k weekly.
Any manager or sporting director would have moved him on after that.

  54. Sid

Soares is more crap th Bellerin, the fact that diet Pep thinks he is better is alarming

    Im telling you for free!

  55. Freddie Ljungberg

    Great news about Saka.

Going to be interesting to hear what his wages are, I’d be shocked if it’s over 80k a week. Probably a bit lower.

  56. andy1886

Pierre, no point in focusing on Mikhi, a player that isn’t even at the club anymore.

How about my earlier question, what’s the answer to the Ozil conundrum? MA clearly isn’t keen to play him just as latter day AW and UE were not. What do we do?

  57. DigitalBob

Best news since we’ve been back is Saka signing a new deal. I don’t care how much he’s on just pleased its a long term deal!

  58. Freddie Ljungberg

“For starters, I just want to say I have to mention Unai Emery because of the amount he believed in me, the opportunities he gave me, I’ll forever be grateful for them,” Saka told Arsenal Digital.”

Too bad he hated the kids though…

“One player in particular I have to say is David Luiz. He’s a man with a big heart and he just has so much experience in the game as well.

“He goes out of his way all the time to advise and help all the young players. I’m sure if you asked them as well, they’d tell you how much he’s there to support us. He’s a very important member of our squad.”

A little something for CG and his pals.

Worth keeping around for 0 transfer fee and 80k ish a week ( if that huge reduction is true) just for the experience and mentoring.

  59. Danny S

I’m a bit surprised at arsenal re: Saliba.

The 2.5m shouldn’t have been an issue as we would have paid it ages ago were it not for the corona.

  60. Freddie Ljungberg

Maybe so but their season is over, if they wanted us to extend the loan so he could play in their cup final too they shouldn’t expect us to pay that much for it. We don’t have an obligation to extend the loan so the least they can do if they want him to stay is waiving that fee. No way we should pay that to help them win one last game when we don’t have to.

  61. Pierre

“Pierre is one of the posters that demonstrated an irrational hatred for Emery from the very first day”

Sadly I was right , though it wasn’t irrational , very rational in fact.

I looked at his first few games and it was obvious that he didn’t have clue how to set up a team defensively , and I knew it was doomed to fail.

Arteta is trying to clear up the mess that Emery left but at least he is going about it the right way , in that he is trying to make us more disciplined and harder to beat.

There was a little blip after the lockdown, maybe he tried to change too much and was over thinking things .

A win tonight will make it 3 on the bounce but some tougher games to come.

  62. GunnerDNA

“The 2.5m shouldn’t have been an issue as we would have paid it ages ago were it not for the corona”

Its an issue! He played 16 games and the final would be 17 that would require AFC to pay the 2.5 m. AFC asked them to waive it and they declined, so the extension didn’t happen. They wanted everything on their terms. The loan deal already expired, so AFC is not obligated to their demands. 2.5 m is a lot of money in this current climate, they already had a good deal when the player was loaned back to them. AFC is right in this one. fcuk SE!

  63. Jamie

Arteta is clearing up Wenger’s mess by ostracising Ozil and releasing Mkhi on a free.

Smart enough to recognise an absolute waster when he sees one and push him out of the squad.

  64. Pierre

“How about my earlier question, what’s the answer to the Ozil conundrum? MA clearly isn’t keen to play him just as latter day AW and UE were not. What do we do?”

The conundrum is Saka. , as I pointed out many times in the past month.

Arteta wants to find a position in the team for Saka ( and rightly so) , so he has been moved more central and Ozil has been the loser.
If we play better football and win more football matches without Ozil then that’ll do for me .

The conundrum was always Saka as Tierney is fit and Aubameyang plays on the left .

We will see with Ozil , I’m reluctant to say he has played his last game for Arsenal.

After knockdown Arteta did say he had a bad few weeks (whatever that meant) and now he is supposedly injured..

We have smith rowe and Saka who are ready to hit the ground running next season so there is good competition for that role.

  65. The Legend That Is Dennis Bergkamp

Wasn’t Arsenal one of the first teams to field an all foreign side ? Yes we need some British grit but they come with a VIP price tag…

  66. azed

Saka’s interview shows that Unai is not as clueless as some make it sound.

Also puts paid to the lie that he didn’t like youth or technical players.

  67. Left testicle

I wouldn’t be surprised if Arteta throws Ozil in tonight
    …at home
    …versus Norwich
    …with good weather.

I hope he doesn’t as I don’t want that waste of space anywhere near the team.

  68. Terraloon

At long last the new contract for Saka it seems a4 year deal( is that length of contract the new norm)

  69. andy1886

Pierre, I think a lot of us would agree that playing Auba centrally thus leaving space for both Tierney and Saka on the left makes a lot of sense. If of course Auba leaves in the summer then there isn’t even that issue.

More than that I think that the question is how we set up. Do we use what was the modern #10 but is now falling out of favour or do we play two genuine strikers? For all the talk of AM’s, DM’s, #10’s and so on this club won the majority of it’s major honours with two strikers and two athletic, powerful and (relatively) quick central midfielders who worked together as a pair flanked by two wide players/wingers all on the bedrock of a solid back four.

It’s a simple formula that ideally we would have stuck with rather than dilly dallying over Barca-lite and technical midgets in midfield.

Anyway that’s my take on it, that it’s not so much Ozil that is redundant but the position that he plays in.

  70. Left testicle

Four year deals are the way to go. Get two good seasons out of a player and then review with two years remaining – keep or get rid for a decent price.

  71. Valentin

Young player who played 18 months of 1st team professional football says that the manager under whom he played 14 months is the one with the biggest influence.
    Colour me surprised!

Again coach and manager are two separate roles. Some people are great coaches but mediocre managers, and vice versa poor coaches but great manager. Marcelo Bielsa is one of the best coach, but he is a mediocre manager.

Bryan Kidd, Steve McClaren are recognised coaches, but unfortunately for their various clubs clueless as manager.

  72. Dissenter

‘Thankfully Dissenter isn’t on the negotiations team.”

Actually, I never put up a number that was acceptable or disagreeable. I left all that to you.
I said I would do everything to keep him.. and more. [to emphasize the priority of keeping him]

  73. Dissenter

Watch as Pierre and all the anti-Emery extremists take out hate on Saka.
Gawd he actually said something positive about the former manager

  74. azed

“Young player who played 18 months of 1st team professional football says that the manager under whom he played 14 months is the one with the biggest influence.
    Colour me surprised!”

Actually Valentin, Saka was asked about Arteta and had no need to talk about Emery.

  75. Valentin

The more I read about Mhkitaryan rescinding his contract with Arsenal, the more I pity the guy. He is getting shafted by his agent in way that should be illegal.

Mhkitaryan has still one year on his £180kpw contract with Arsenal. Arsenal does not want him, Rome can’t afford that salary nor the £10 million fee requested by Arsenal.
So in order to get his wage off the books Arsenal are willing to grant him a free release. Mhkitaryan will then sign a 1 year deal on lesser wage (rumoured to be £5 millions less) while his agent will pocket £5 millions as a signing on fee from Roma.
So his agent asked him to take a pay cut so he can pocket the difference. 🤔🤯😵🙊🙈🙉
As the deal is alleged to be a 1 year deal, he does not even have the security of a long term deal.

Can somebody explain how a player could accept that. The agent is supposed to work for him. If Mino Raiola was a financial advisor, he would lose his license for that kind of advice.

  76. Dissenter

Saka just showed up Pedro’s ridiculously biased narrative that Emery was “stain” on our history. It’s like the guy did nothing right and everything that went wrong was on him.

  77. Dissenter

His agent has been great for him, don’t presume you care more about Mkhitaryan than Mkhitaryan.
His agent got his wages bumped up by about 50k weekly when he moved from United to Arsenal. His agent used the leverage of being the fulcrum of 3 deals to get a substantial pay rise for his client.
He’s still better off signing a long term deal at say 5 million yearly at Roma for 3-4 seasons at the age of 31 years that wait out his 10 million yearly Arsenal deal and be a free agent at 32 years.
Many players have financial advisers separate from their agent- they too can do the arithmetic

  78. Valentin

According to reports, he is signing a 1 year deal with Roma…
    How is that financially better?

  79. Pierre

Saka’s actually words were “The amount he believed in me and the opportunity he gave me.”

In all honesty, it wasn’t difficult to see the potential of Saka was it , but it was nice of him to give him a mention.

Strangely enough, those who are getting excited about Saka mentioning Emery , failed to add that Saka said Arteta is amazing and is an amazing coach and the future looks bright under Arteta.

  80. Pierre

2 up front I am not against at all .

The wing back system allows this option, with the wing backs giving the width, 3 in central mid and 3 centre backs.

It’s quite a flexible system as one of the strikers can drop in the hole or out wide if need be

  81. salparadisenyc

Emery gave Saka his chance in 1st team, very classy of the player to tip his cap to his former manager in the presser. Not sure why anything else needs to be read into that or debated.

  82. Dissenter

Tell that to Pedro the next time he makes such outlandish comments like “Emery is a stain on our history”.

  83. andy1886

Pierre, I agree it is a flexible option. I would maintain however that the thing we have missed more than anything over the last decade is power and pace in the middle of the park. We’ve had a soft centre for far, far too long.

  84. Dissenter

I’m not the one operating on the notion that footballers are morons being duped by their agents.
Like I said, many players have financial advisers separate from their agent- they too can do the arithmetic. Stop pretending like you know more about the player’s contract than he himself.

  85. Leedsgunner

Saka signing is a good news story… goodness knows we’re long overdue one.

I hope we bring in Thomas Partey before long!

  86. Emiratesstroller

At last some light at the end of dark tunnel with Saka signing a new contract.

We are beginning to see the younger players in the first team squad signing
long term contracts and the club paying them realistic wages commensurate
    with their performance.

The two youngsters who are not on 5 year contracts are Nkietah and Guendouzi. I suspect that Arteta and the Management will now work on securing a long term contract for Nkietah.

I am not sure that Guendouzi has a future at Arsenal and it may suit the club
to offload him if they can generate a decent transfer fee and be able to recruit
    a better quality midfield player.

I think that despite all the negativity about Raul and Edu there is a game plan
at the club. They have inherited a lot of problems, which are difficult to disentangle.

It remains to be seen whether the club will be able to retain Aubameyang. He
is the one experienced player apart from Leno that I would prefer to keep.

As I posted the other day I believe that Arsenal will have a transfer budget this
summer despite CV and its consequences. I am sure that we will be recruiting
at least 2-3 new players once the Summer Transfer Window opens.

  87. Dissenter

Emery deserve his sack. The wheels came off the bus early in his second season.
There was little to love about him tbh, I’m just too happy to correct the record for posterity sake.

  88. Champagne Charlie

You claimed Saka the best academy product ever and now you think because he was handed games by Emery it absolves the former manager of all the criticism thatve gone.

Put your red nose back on.

  89. Valentin

    Get off your high horse.
Where did I say that every footballer is a moron duped by his agent?

I said that from the outside, that specific deal does not make financial sense for that specific player. It does look like the only one who get ahead is Mino Raiola.

He may have other justified reasons to be so desperate to leave Arsenal and join Roma, but clearly they are not financials.

It is a well known fact that Mini Raiola is a Pitbull during negotiation, but sometimes he cares more about his own part. That is exactly why some clubs are refusing to deal with him.

Also official complaints show that nearly every footballer is Being duped by at least one agent during his career. So being duped by an agent does not make them moron, just footballer and not agent.
Not every agents honestly represent their client beat interest. That’s why you have some players suing their former agents.

  90. salparadisenyc

TBF not sure Dissenter’s ever heard the greatness of Onyeabor, he should. WE all should bathe in it.

  91. Dissenter

“You claimed Saka the best academy product ever and now you think because he was handed games by Emery it absolves the former manager of all the criticism thatve gone.”

Yes, I said he’s the best academy product we’ve ever had.
The rest of your post is tripe, made up rubbish.
I’m correcting the historical misrepresentation that Pedro and the likes of you are perpetuating here that Emery didn’t do anything right – ‘stain on our history”. You present him as being same massive failure when all he was and will be ever be is just another manager who got fired for not meeting his targets.

  92. Aussie Gooner

    Another old timer incoming!
“Arsenal have recruited David Luiz to convince his Brazilian team-mate Thiago Silva to join the Gunners from Paris Saint-Germain this summer”

Well he fits the demographic – 35 years old, well past his best, high wages. Give him a 4 year contract!

  93. Dissenter

Very well, Mykhi’s agent is pulling the wool over his eyes and you see right through it.

  94. Champagne Charlie

You like to accuse others of talking nonsense yet your basis for the claims you make are hard to come by altogether. It’s as if you’re making things up as you go along.

Still haven’t managed to locate the quotes from Arteta about Guendouzi that Pep would never have said.

  95. Gonsterous

Jesus, news that arteta wants silva at CB. Somebody needs to tell the boss that a 35y old is not going to cut it in the PL.

Saka signing is Great news, any one know how much he’s on now?

  96. Freddie Ljungberg

Yeah I read the article, still no clue who he is. Thought maybe I missed something or that he’s known for something other than being a lawyer.

Oh well, at least he’s not 85 like the outgoing bunch.

  97. salparadisenyc

If this was a Tarantino film, Samual L Jackson would now say to Dissenter:

NOBODY grew up listening to Onyeabor, not even Onyeabor.

  98. Wasi

Even tho Emery left in the way he did. , it was a class little act to mention him as well as Freddie when asked about how much Arteta has helped him.
Shows humility and gratefulness. Lad is going to the TOPPE
