Oof, is this us now?

by .

Yah babes, I’m feeling you. Firstly, I wish my husband bought me a Peloton because I am telling you right now, forced enclosure is not good for this washboard sixpack I’ve been cultivating in 2020. Secondly, watching the news well dry up is quite alarming. It’s the absolute fear that I might… you know, have to work to write my daily blogs?

Oof, I feel queezy.

Today, we’ve landed at the point where the best news stories are… ‘YOU’LL NEVER GUESS WHAT THESE FANS ON TWITTER FOUND MILDLY INTERESTING’… and you know what? I clicked. It was shite, but it warmed up the news-cold-turkey.

We’re so desperate for news that John Barnes opinion on how the Premier League should end is making headlines.

A topic that is interesting is players transfers. If the season isn’t closed out by June 30th, players will enter the last year of their deal, which could be a monstrous pain in the fucking backside. We could lose Auba for nothing next summer by accident and we’ll end up devaluing a whole bunch of players who ‘might’ have moved but could change their minds as the view of a Bosman transfer becomes a little more focused.

UEFA will have to shift the transfer window.

I’m also interested to see how training carries on. Is it business as usual next week like some of the papers are saying? Training isn’t exactly social distancing.

The good news for Arsenal and most of the Premier League clubs is we’re all landing a midseason preseason with our coaches. Injured players come back into the mixer, the club can do the conditioning that wasn’t there in the summer, and new ideas can be bedded into minds of players that may have been struggling.

I appreciate that advantage is for everyone, but it’s at least an advantage for those of you who think Arteta has good ideas.

The comeback I’m looking forward to the most is Kieran Tierney. He’s a chance creation machine and an absolute beast. Where do we end up playing Bukayo Saka? Is he a left-back? Or does he move further up the pitch? Whatever happens, the left side of Arsenal is wrapped up nicely for the next few years. Especially when you factor in Gabriel. Woah. I’m excited.

SEAN BLOODY DYCHE. Manager of the month? Outrageous.

There are some rumblings about Auba and Barca, not sure I’m buying into them, but while his contract is up in the air, you never damn well know.

Right, short post today, back in the morning.

I think that’s undoubted but a degree of that is how the panic that’s being induced is magnifying any consequences.

Whilst I think a “downturn” (I won’t use the R word) is already underway I do feel the Governments of the world actions will see economies bounce back quite quickly and robustly.

The 08 situation was a systemic problem in the global economy this is a black swan event. Once it’s out of the way we should see a far quicker recovery than what we saw in the early teens.

Have you not been reading what I’ve been saying?

I read something the other day where someone was comparing the public response in the US – basically it was talking about how the number of people who die in house fire’s every year was way higher than the current global death toll from corona but there’s a real lax attitude about testing smoke alarms or replacing the batteries in them.

It seems to be a classic case of “the unknown” has come to get us.

Global panic is now a disease.
It’s very catching.

Actually amazed India hasn’t been making headlines – huge population living in highly concentrated areas and lots of poverty.

Ripe for any disease.

All virus’s mutate over time – the natural (for some) response is “oh my god it’s mutated we’re all gonna die”

The problem comes when a virus jump across species – what’s happened here.

However a virus doesn’t want to kill you – it’s bad for it – if the host dies so do the virus’s living in that host. What virus’s usually do is mutate to be a mild illness so the host and virus can simultaneously co exist.

All viruses originally came from animals ie chicken pox ,small pox etc.

Marc “Something like which ref is currently the most fucking useless (OK it’s Mike Dean) and which ref has been the most fucking useless over the last 25 years.” Due to their hatred ( obsessiveness) of wenger ,many on here refused to recognise how the officials were biased against Arsenal for the previous 14 years or so. Now Wenger has gone , the decisions continue to go against us, but now more and more posters on le Grove are showing their despair as we are refused blatant penalties week after week and VAR is doing us no favours whatsoever. Seriously though – I try not to fall into the “Arsenal are picked on” but I see so many bad decisions it’s staggering.

What did it for me was when my Mum who’s not an Arsenal fan made a comment one day asking why the ref kept giving decisions to the other team and not Arsenal!

Say’s it all.

Marc
I see Boris has finally come around to closing your schools, one week after everyone else using the same data closed their schools. He’s the embodiment of catatonic slowness in governing, always behing the curve.

Yesterday, you [and Up4grabs] were justifying the decision to keep schools open as necessary because NHS personnel need child care. There goes that flimsy reason now.

Barney75

Very rarely comment, but I do think some perspective on Covid-19 is required, particularly in response to comparisons made by some politicians and in the press with the pain endured through WWII. If anyone has time to spare over the next few weeks, go and read James Holland’s Normandy ’44. 6000 to 7000 Allied soldiers lost on some days, a higher rate than at the Somme, men in the prime of life. Similar numbers on the German side, only they’d conscripted boys as young as 15 to fight a futile last stand insisted upon by Hitler. Men and boys burnt… Read more »

Except they’re keeping schools open for kids whose parents are “key” workers ie NHS staff etc.

The officials ruin the game for me. It’s never a level playing field
All one asks for is an unbiased ref , I’m not asking that Arsenal get any favouritism.

Marc

Un

Which would have made no difference to the outbreak what so ever. Who the fuck was letting kids near their grandparents 2 weeks ago?

At the end of this we’ll see a break down of countries – number of infections – deaths etc. There will be some regional variations but at that point the Governments of the world will be judged compared to others.

We won’t be top but we won’t be any where near the bottom in comparison to our European neighbours.

Marc

Pierre

I don’t know why the PL doesn’t look to attract ref’s from around the world – pay them a shit load of cash and we’ll get some talent in.

Marc

Un

But many of the deaths from the Tsunami were preventable – if they’d have been better tracking and warning many killed would’ve had hour’s to get to higher ground.

Anyone can pull something to pieces if they want.

104 UK deaths – terrible and sad but just compare that to death rates from other disease and conditions every year.

Dissenter

Marc Actually I read it before I posted. There was a way to close schools and provide for child care for essential workers so why wasn’t that done in a timely manner. That was the point of my comment about your silly justification of the non closure of schools. . People can’t pay their bills?… that’s why they have an organized society with a government in charge. Most western governments are doing some type of stimulus to help out workers. The projections for the ‘pandemic’ are dire, so dire that even die hard anti-science people here are coming to terms… Read more »

Oh dear – so it’s dangerous for kids to mix because they might catch it and spread it to family members who will all be fine and who are avoiding the Grandparents but it’s OK for kids who’s Mum’s a nurse and looking after some old girl who’s in hospital because she broke her leg? Or are you going to isolate all NHS and care workers from their families for the next 6 months?

Dissenter

The Tsunami was over from start to finish in a a matter of hours from the epicenter of the Indian ocean earthquake to the waves reaching land masses.
It was largely unpreventable, even with early warning a quake of that magnitude would have devastated the adjoining land areas.
Even the Japanese with al the sensors and early warning systems still lost 15,00 to a lesser Tsunami in 2011.

Marc
That was not an apt example, can’t compare it to a viral pandemic.

Marc

Un

The US established it’s first warning centre in 1947.

Truth is it wasn’t in place for many of those who died because no one was interested in paying for it.

You’re really struggling today!

Marc Any thinking adult will tell you that we risk harming more from from our interventions to limit the Viral pandemic than the virus could possible do. It’s an apt example because shit happens no matter what – there will always be something bad about to happen and there will always be ways of preventing or reducing the impact of something.

If the global economy had invested 20% of global GDP in Tsunami warning equipment in Pacific for the last 70 years many lives would have been saved – every one would also be saying we spent fucking how much.

You’re talking about objectivity?
You’re the one that brought up a catastrophic event that evolves in minutes to hours to justify your viewpoint about a pandemic that evolves in weeks to months.

You realize that the Tsunami hit the Aceh province of Sumatra within 20 minutes after the initial earthquake a in remote part of the Indian ocean. It hit parts of Thailand within 35 minutes. A Tsunami wave travels about 500 miles/hour.

See how objective you are, quibbling over minutes-hours when you were juxtaposing it against a pandemic that’s evolving over weeks to months.

I brought up the Tsunami after another poster talked about the number of deaths on D Day – shit happens is my point, people die often in tragic circumstances. Of course some where hit by the Boxing Day Tsunami quickly some were hit hours later – it took the US service 50 minutes to advise of a Tsunami warning after the quake hit.

There’s a decent chance the next “big” natural disaster will be the Yellow Stone volcano. That’ll make the Boxing Day Tsunami look like a sponge bath.
