Arsenal sell youth prospect

by .

Hey, did you hear? Roy Keane has had a thought.

‘When I was watching it I thought they were 10 points clear in the league the way they were celebrating. ‘No, forget Arsenal. Way over the top celebration for beating Newcastle 4-0. Ridiculous.’

Well I’ll be damned, if there’s ever a person in the world of sport ready with a hot take about joy, it’s gotta be the Irishman. That this sort of commentary still interests people is staggering. It’s so boring.

For me, the best part about the celebration was seeing the players happy again. Lacazette is obviously very highly thought after by the players and it was great to see them all launch at him after 7900 minutes without a goal. Good for them, enjoy life, fuck Roy.

In ‘two drunk uncles fighting’ news, Unai Emery and Arsene Wenger are at it in the press. It’s like two reimagination titans duking it out to see who can fool those lying eyes harder.

This was Emery: “Arsenal was a club on a downward slope for two years before I arrived.

This was Arsene: “In 2017 we made 75 points and won the FA Cup so you cannot say that [Arsenal were in decline] and the year before [2016] we finished second in the league,”

“2018 was my last year but it is very difficult to come out on that.

“Arsenal is a club that is in a very strong position financially. It has good players, after that when you are a manager you have to stand up for what you do and your result and not look around you.

Oof… Arsene, just stop.

I liked that Arteta just pretended he’d not read Emery’s comments. Classy.

Pablo Mari played his first 45 in an Arsenal shirt for the U23 team, dropping a very solid performance according to the nerds that watch those games. It’ll be interesting to see whether he actually starts on Thursday, quite the risk this early, even if it is light opposition.

Robbie Burton, hot prospect from last season, has been shipped off to Dinamo. I cant see what the fee is, but one would assume he must have been told he was surplus to requirements to move to a fairly obscure league. Good luck to him, I love to see British kids moving abroad to land the game time they need in their formative years. Interesting to see that Marcus Mcguane was being touted with a move back to Forest after failing to break into the Barca B team on a consistent basis.

Manchester United kept the race for top four nice and alive, OGS putting Frank Lampard’s team to the sword 2-0 in a VAR controversy fest for the ages. I think the win was ideal for us, the pack is now very tight, just 7 points separate 10th and 4th. I still think it’s a huge ask for Arsenal, but it’s not beyond the pale to suggest a team that dropped a 22 game unbeaten run 18 months ago could do the same again… still feels unlikely though, but we’ll see.

I also think glorious failure of both clubs works for us. United won’t fire OGS if he finishes a close 5th, Chelsea won’t fire Frank if he’s there or thereabouts. Last thing we need is Poch at either of our rivals.

The game on Sunday will be a major test, the ‘SHOULD HAVE BEEN CARLO’ fanboys will be waiting with bated breath to see if he can turn us over. It’ll be a tough home game, no doubt, but it’s one we simply have to win if we want to stand a chance in the league this season.

Right, short post today, I’m off to Virginia… my first time.  Make sure you listen to the podcast though, the sound is so spot on it brought a tear to my eye.

I’m pretty sure it was haaland’s choice to go to dortmund
I remember hearing Manure were ready to splash £80M+ on him, then he goes to Dortmund for £15M.

It’s a shame Atletico are a pale shadow of their former selves otherwise they would of thumped Liverpool…

Liverpool didn’t look like they would score if they played another three hours. No shot on target. Athletico didn’t need a goalie. But the early goal really screwed Liverpool

Liverpool will destroy AM at Anfield. There’s no way they survive an all out blitz for 90 mins.
They have made that place a fortress for European nights.

Seeing Sancho and Haaland (who are both 19) play for Dortmund is interesting. Why not Saka, Martinelli, Pepe (if we’re unable to tie Auba & he leaves)? Saka and Martinelli are 18 but if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
Both, in their breakout season, have contributed close to 25 goals. It’s risky, but it can be exciting.

Arsene Wenger wants to see a change in the offside law in time for this summer’s European Championships. His proposals would mean a player will be deemed onside if any part of their body is level or behind the last defender. Wenger, FIFA’s head of global development, said: “You will not be offside if any part of the body that can score a goal is in line with the last defender, even if other parts of the attacker’s body are in front. “That will sort it out and you will no longer have decisions about millimetres and a fraction of… Read more »

Haaland ……………….is destined for the Premier League one day. Unlikely to be us but you never know!

This is the problem of English clubs’ scouting. They can hardly ever scout and land a player like that on their own. Now, Spanish giants and English clubs will buy these players well past their prime.

I’ve long thought that offside favours defensive set ups which is counterintuitive for the beautiful game. A number of years ago FIFA brought in guidance which stated to referees that where there was any doubt then the benefit of the doubt should rest wit the offensive team. It was a breath of fresh air but was then at some point and without fanfare withdrawn. That is what we need to bring back and Wenger’s greatest contribution in that role would be to re-establish that and if we have to persevere with VAR make it a lot less intrusive. We need view on offside is exactly how it should be treated. VAR should be there to establish daylight between defender and attacker, thus giving the attacker the advantage and having the game be more entertaining.

It wouldn’t change the fabric of the game at all, it would simply abolish the marginal nonsense that doesn’t represent an advantage in the first place.

Chris

Not only is Haaland exceptional in his abilities but he also has an exemplary attitude and knows how to maximise his potential. He takes care of himself off the pitch, he biohacks, you won’t see him anywhere near a night club, and he has his father to keep his feet on the ground if needed. It’s like they are making out his whole career right now. Dortmund was a very, very smart move for him right now.

Haaland and Mbappe may be the next two world superstars following Messi and Ronaldo.

Bob N16

Agree with that CC, keep it simple, same for both sides – clear.

Should also be shown in grounds as part of the frustration is a lack of transparency while a decision is being rewatched at home or in the studio. If fans could see the process and recognise that the correct decision had been made, VAR would be much more acceptable.

Bob N16

CG, his price tag is ‘paltry’ as Dortmund have accepted that after 18 months he’ll be on his way for a fixed fee (£50m). His agent has played a blinder as at that price, shitloads will go to player and agent.

I don’t understand why people are getting upset about VAR and offside. If we want to see more goals or give an advantage to the attacker then Wenger’s idea is a good one. We would however still see the same fine margins just the other way round. Suggesting daylight between the players is a stupid idea that will just make it even harder to call a decision quickly. The worst part of offside through VAR is that it slows down the game. My suggestion would be to improve the technology to detect the offside similar to the goal line technology. It should inform the lineman who can then decide whether the player participates in the play or not. Then, offside will not be detected through VAR.

If Auba hasn’t signed then selling him will be a necessity and if there is an auction for him then we’d be mad to do otherwise. On topic of VAR , I would say that it should be out of the referees’ hands. Both teams should get two reviews per game , just like in cricket. Whenever a teams feel a bad call is given they can opt for it and if proved right their review remains. If ref is proven right then you lose one review , simple. The data will also then point out refs who consistently give out bad decisions.

CG, You cant be offside if you have possession of the ball in the oppositions half. I am not sure that would improve the quality of football.
