Mesut Ozil charm offensive

Arteta blazing over…

The Mikel Arteta fan club just keeps on growing, the latest fan to voice his bold opinions on the manager isssssssss… Mesut Ozil. The German, who metaphorically garroted Unai Emery with his IDGAF performances, had many nice things to say about his new boss.

“Fighting and having possession, being in control of the game, having the ball all the time.

“These are the things that he is working on with us and you can see it — everyone is smiling, laughing, enjoying their time — it has made us successful.

“It is basically getting us back to the old Arsenal virtues,”

“I think he is the right man at this club.”

“He can show us everything he has learnt in his long career. He knows exactly what we need.

“He knows what to say to us, how to give us a positive attitude and how to make us successful.

“I can see he is really hungry but at the same time he is also very down to earth.”

Some papers are saying this is a dig at Unai Emery, I didn’t really see it that way, more an honest reflection of what he’s enjoying with Arteta.

Some will guffaw at the temerity of these comments and I can definitely see why there would be outrage. Mesut mailed it in big-time under Unai, but ultimately, we’ve all had a job at TGI Fridays, being bossed around by some tosser that insists you’re an idiot because of your handling of the balloon animals, getting booed by some big shot from Grays because you sneezed on his steak. Fuck TGI Fridays and anyone that goes there for a birthday and pretends they don’t want the song.

‘You know why you’re here Darren, stand on the fucking chair, let me tie these balloons on your arms, and feign embarrassment as I sing a hateful song at you’

Anyway, point being… no one liked working for Emery. No one made it out the other side a better player. If those battered players have changed their attitude now, who cares, we are a fan base led by god, and god says he who casts the first stone usually gets a stadium ban. So don’t do that, but do forgive. Think of Mesut as a puppy that’s been left in a bin bag by the side of the river, Arteta has found him, the fans will give him 3 weeks to recover, if it doesn’t work out, dad will take him to the vet (Washington DC) and that’ll be that.

Arsenal are being linked to a whole host of players I’m pretty sure we’re not going to bring to the club.

We are short a center-back, John Stones has been linked on loan, but I can’t see it. I think he has an outrageous amount of talent that we could tap, but I’d be surprised to see Pep farm out players to Mikel so soon. I’d also be worried Stones would bring some of that horrible form over to us. Only thing working in our favour is that City might want to shop window him, and the player would die for some game time with the Euros coming this summer.

Bruno Guimaraes, one of 600 Bruno’s being linked to the Premier League, is also picking up a lot of Arsenal attention. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder is valued at £22m, he smells like an Edu sort of player (Drenched in Le Labo), and I’d basically be game for anyone that can run fast, tackle, and occasionally bite a rival.

Not quite sure about the video, doesn’t look very polished and lacks speed if these videos are anything to go by… 6 minutes of scouting though, so will happily be told otherwise.

… I do worry about the rumours, I’m not sure we’re rolling in cash, so any move would have to be funded by bringing more money forward from the summer, or maybe via a player sale (make it MUSTAFI PLEASE).

Short one today, pretty devastated that people said the new volume on the podcast was still too low. Back to sound engineering school for me.

RH “Kurzawa is a joke of a signing, ” Says the one who defended the signing of Suarez to the bitter end . Suarez was a joke of a signing because he played in a position that we were well stocked . Iwobi, Ransey , Ozil and Mhkitaryan were all better players than Suarez. Whether Kurosawa is of sufficient quality remains to be seen, but with Tierney struggling to get fit before mid/end of march and Kolasinac ,who is always liable to get injured , the signing of a left back makes sense as Saka is not and never will… Read more »

Marko,

Funny how Some people are turning against the people in charge of recruitment faster than you can say turncoat.

From hailing Raul as the second coming to slamming his reported targets.

“Gone from links to Szobozlai, Reinier and Upamecano to Kurzawa and Mertens. This club is playing checkers when it should be playing chess. Expect a link to Ross Barkley as well and possibly Trabelsi before the window closes”

Receding Hairline

Again its the short sighted nature of the transfer that rankles . Yea we need fullbacks why not go for younger and hungrier? Wasn’t that the promised template? Younger players who are looking to go next level? Kurzawa isn’t that and has never been a player that impressed me.

You can call it cheap Wheeling dealing but having a backup who will possibly earn more than the first choice… You seem to think outlay is only measured in transfer fees.

Thorough

Is it possible Kuzarwa plays in or has history of playing other positions aside left back?

Dissenter

It seems the club is seeking an experienced replacement for Kola before selling him. This is every bit the simple type of
I wont be surprised to know that a deal for Kola is already done.
The same people slating Kurzawa will be quick to admire him from afar when Conte gets his hands on him.

Receding Hairline

Valentin can we have your two cents on Kurzawa?

Pierre if Kurzawa is returning to PSG at the end of the season you won’t hear a peep from me so comparing him to Suarez is a bit dense

Dissenter

Receding
“earn more than the first choice”
You have to look at the financial commitment as a package though- transfer fees have to be factored in. You just can’t view the wages in vacuum.
Then the question of first choice vs back-up. If Tierney couldn’t displace Kola, what makes you think he will push Kurzawa to the bench?

Receding Hairline

Dissenter I am not the one who has labelled him back up to justify his signing. Take that one up with Charles

Dissenter

There was an air of indifference here when Spurs signed Lucas Moura from PSG two years ago. I’m sure that has since changed.
Because PSG doesn’t want to renew Kurzawa’s contract or the player doesn’t want to extend doesn’t mean a damn thing.

Receding Hairline

A quick look on Twitter shows quite a few don’t think he is a great signing. Bunch of hysterical sorority girls

Dissenter

RH
I got that one wrong.

Receding Hairline

Dissenter you are missing the point entirely, we are a defensively suspect team that signed a defensively suspect full back and now looking to replace him with a player whose advertised weakness is “weak in tackles”.

All his strengths are offensive but he masquerades as a defender… That should ring several bells

Tee

Instead of saying kurzawa is a joke of a signing why not come out with maybe stats to buttress this stupid assertion because from the clip I watched of him, he is capable though his fitness status I can say I don’t know.

Also rich, coming from those who supported the suarez deal.

If you are going to set aside the fact
that the money is not there to be spent, to drive your pov then you are beyond redeemable.

Tee

Twitter reactions are nothing to judge a player.

Reactions on Twitter is nothing different from what you have here n le-grove.

It’s like citing the reaction of Le grovers on another blog as an evidence that a particular player is not good

Champagne Charlie

“Again its the short sighted nature of the transfer that rankles . Yea we need fullbacks why not go for younger and hungrier? Wasn’t that the promised template?” Not every transfer can be a promising talent, we already spent considerably on the same position for a 22 year old called Tierney. Do you want us to seek out a 19 year old somewhere? Kurzawa is 27, and will replace 26 year old Kolasinac who is a dead rubber to get sold this summer. We’re literally swapping out a squad player for someone with a slightly different profile. Is Kolasinac suddenly… Read more »

RH young and better is good, that’s why we signed Tierney. we can’t have 25 mil backup fullbacks. The only way I see kurzawa as a bad signing is if he is paid more than a 100k a week. A guy who has been a starter for a few years and a backup to bernat(who is elite by the way) at money bags PSG is definitely good enough to be at least a backup for us. Even better we will get a fee for Kolasinac which we can use to improve our options at RB. Nobody knows how he is… Read more »

Marko

Again if Emery was manager and we signed Kurzawa there’d be absolute Kanipshins on here about it. But because it’s a popular manager you got people falling over backwards to justify it. I’ve not got a problem with bringing in a fullback we need multiple ones imo but fact is that in Kurzawa we’d be adding in another player with a questionable attitude and questionable ability. We’ll be looking at loaning him out inside a season until we let him go on an eventual free. It’s just a lazy sloppy signing. But mikel’s okay with it so swallow it you… Read more »

All these “we should be looking at prospective kids with potentials” mantra should stop.

A prospect is nothing but a prospect. Always looking for the next gem has its own risks and nothing, when it comes to transfer, is a given.

I will wait till the summer to attack Raul and Edu because that’s the time to question the readiness bit for now, it’s a matter of trying to plug some gaps to save what’s left of the season.

Receding Hairline

Habesha why are we desperate to be rid of Kolasinac? Because he isn’t very good defensively.

Therein lies the problem. This dude too isn’t very good defensively.

Sighting the Suarez deal is stupid Tee, a six month loan deal with no obligation to buy. I mean if you start comparing both it simply means you also have doubts on this one. Difference is this guy will be signing on a three and half year deal at best

Champagne Charlie

“Again if Emery was manager and we signed Kurzawa there’d be absolute Kanipshins on here about it. But because it’s a popular manager you got people falling over backwards to justify it“

Daily dose of bollocks from Marko.

Tee

“Again if Emery was manager and we signed Kurzawa there’d be absolute Kanipshins on here about”

That’s the angle.

It’s all about Emery for them.

If kurzawa totally fails like your suarez then run it off Arteta’s face but for now that it’s not be confirmed on the arsenal website, let’s hear words.

Champagne Charlie

“Habesha why are we desperate to be rid of Kolasinac? Because he isn’t very good defensively. Therein lies the problem. This dude too isn’t very good defensively.“ Let’s make it real simple and go on the premise Kolasinac and Kurzawa are exactly the same, wages and all. So we lose nothing in terms of our LB position and whatever funds we raise from Kolasinac’s sale (say 15mil?) goes towards another position in the side of more importance…like that Bruno fella in CM. Is it really that bitter a pill to take a push on a transfer so you can boost… Read more »

RH I think he is better than Kolasinac defensively though. And he definitely is better at attacking than kola. We can’t fund a move for a backup full back. We already know kola is not working out for us. I think Kurzawa could definitely provide us with an attacking edge. If we were signing him for a major fee I would have concerns because he is one of those players which people see as a failed potential. but on a small fee he is a gamble worth taking in my eyes. The last two left backs that have been discarded… Read more »

From hailing Raul as the second coming to slamming his reported targets.

It’s pretty simple I want him to make more signings like Saliba, Pepe and Martinelli and less Luiz and Kurzawa signings. You know good ones instead of bad ones

Receding Hairline

Yea a deal where we are signing a 27 year old left back on a permanent is getting attention. This on a blog where a six months loan deal for Suarez is still mentioned.

You never cease to amaze.

You are not even making points on the qualities of the player both defensively and attitude wise for a team desperate to improve on both fronts. Just telling us to all look the other way or hail it.

Habesha Gooner

https://www.whoscored.com/Players/92795/Show/Layvin-Kurzawa

https://www.whoscored.com/Players/110260/Show/Sead-Kolasinac

this is comparison between kola and kurzawa. I believe in watching players play rather than stats and my eyes tell me he is better than kola. I think we are getting a slight upgrade while we get 10-15 mil for our back up fullback.

Marko

Is Kolasinac suddenly mustard in the eyes of some on here? Could’ve sworn he was routinely offered up as dogshit dross whenever it suited.

Exactly we’re replacing a Kolasinac with another Kolasinac.

Tee

“Exactly we’re replacing a Kolasinac with another Kolasinac”

Instead of this, it will be wise if you can show how kurzawa is another kola. That will at least clear the air instead of this blanket statement.

Or you can come up with list of realistic lb we should have targeted instead of kurzawa bearing in mind our financial status.

Marko

Napoli face competition from Arsenal for left-back Konstantinos Tsimikas

Far more upside to this lad 23 has been playing consistently well apparently for a while now with potential to grow.

Tee

If buying kurzawa (who some see as another kola), at kola’s wage, will mean we get some cash for kola to strengthen other postions, then so be it.

For you to say he is playing consistently well means you actually know the guy and not just based on what you have read.

let’s wait and see who we sign then.

Marko

Tee I’d rather not spend time with justifying this type of signing cause we’ve been here before justifying the likes of Kolasinac, Santos, Lichtsteiner, Debuchy etc etc we’re desperate we’ve got no money they’re not that bad. Don’t you get tired of the club bringing in such obvious stop gap and pitiful solutions to such glaring problems? Anyway Tierney is or will be first choice so we’ll need a back up LB but we should be able to find someone more suitable than Kurzawa with his suspect defending and questionable attitude given that we have enough of them already at… Read more »

If Kurzawa is good in the air , that is a massive bonus . If his final ball is good( the hardest ball to play) then that is a bonus. If he is a good passer of the ball and doesn’t waste possession, that’s a bonus . Someone highlighted his one weakness, tackling .. Personally I believe that to be a good defender , tackling is way down the list . Positioning, reading the game , staying on your feet can get you a long way. Rio Ferdinand was a defender who never needed to tackle due to his excellent… Read more »

He’s the starter and has completed 90 mins in all their champions league games this season compared to Kurzawa’s bit part role and 9 starts this season. And let’s be honest here there’s far more upside to a 23 year old than a 27 year old

Receding, My view on Kurzawa is that he is a decent attacking left back, but he can be suspect defensively. He would not be a worst choice than Kolasinac, so it makes financial sense to get him on a free and sell Kolasinac to raise funds. But from a purely football reasons he is not a massive upgrade on Kolasinac as he lacks his forceful, powerful runs. Maybe Arteta has seen something in him than most previous PSG managers failed to see. He used to be a very immature and arrogant idiot, but lately he has shown less stupid arrogance… Read more »

I hope that we are still in the market for a defensive midfielder because if Torreira suffers any serious injuries our season is as good as over. Seeing all the good options in that position being snapped right now, I fear that the decision to wait until the summer may ultimately cost us more. The winter transfer window is supposed to be only for minor adjustments, but we failed to strategically recruit during last summer for that key position. Next summer we may find out that the top 3 defensive midfielders in the French, Spanish, German, Dutch and Italian leagues… Read more »

That’s it in a nutshell, we’re swapping out a backup LB so we can use the money from Kolasinac’s eventual sale on the important aspects of the squad.

Nothing signing that boils down to Kolasinac vs Kurzawa. Neither elite.

Chris

The biggest strength to Kolasinac’s game is his ability to drive forward powerfully and quickly with the ball with interplay into the opponents box, before his final ball usually lets him down. It’s a shame his end product isn’t the best otherwise he would be worthy of what Arteta is trying to do with the team. He has been playing well the last few games.

I actually quite like the guy, would be sad to see him go. I like to think Arteta could help him improve in terms of his decision making and end product.

azed

Do we have space for a non home grown player?

The rumor says we want to pay 6M to bring him now and if we don’t have space for a non home grown, that means either Lacazette or Kolasinac is off.

If it’s Kolasinac, then I’ll question the logic of bringing in Kurzawa this January knowing that Tierney is out for a while.

Champagne Charlie

“If it’s Kolasinac, then I’ll question the logic of bringing in Kurzawa this January knowing that Tierney is out for a while.“

You’d question the logic of bringing in a LB after selling a LB?

That applies to all foreign players though, including the le-grove flavor of the month- Upemecano.
It also applies to players returning back from injury like Tierney who does not even start training till March.

If you sell Lacazette now and bring in another striker, you can bed in the new striker slowly because you have Aubameyang.
If you sell Kolasinac and bring Kurzawa, you have to keep playing him on till Tierney comes back.

Its amazing how often the know nothings get it wrong.

Its normally the same posters time after time who defend the indefensible and question what appears to be perfectly reasonable decisions.

“It’s interesting that Arsenal believes a player that couldn’t win the starting left-back position over Maxwell, Berchiche, and Bernat could do a job for them on a consistent basis but that’s where we are right now.”

Apparently he’s on 115,000 euros a week too. Basically he’ll be another player who we’ll struggle to get rid of because of huge wages and likely poor performances inside a year or two.
