ARTETA SECOND DEBUT CAN’T WAIT

by .

A very quick post from me this morning as I am heading in for my first game of the MIKEL ARTETA ERA GET IN CAN’T WAIT WOOO #1 FAN OVER HERE WITH THE A4 BANNER SAYING #ARTETAIN!

I have no idea what to expect. The manager is dealing with something of an injury crisis, we could be missing a lot of players today. Tierney, Kola and Sokratis are certainly out. There are also doubts over Gabriel, Holding, Ceballos and Hector… there also might be questions over whether Xhaka plays if his mind is on the Hertha Berlin move.

The players he did have ready trained on the pitch yesterday. I like that. For no reason. If Emery had done it I’d have lodged a complaint with the local council, Arteta does it, I find it the sort of elite thinking a progressive young coach should be showcasing.

Chelsea are in a bit of a mess at the moment. They followed up a super defeat of Spurs with a shocking show against lowly Southampton. Some of their fans are predictably on his back, but I think the bleating will be ignored, Chelsea are building up with kids and shit performances are part of the deal there.

Arteta spoke about getting his players to think quicker and work harder off the ball. We saw a taste of that against Bournemouth, today, I hope that continues. I’m looking to see good structure, I’m hoping that against a really good counter-attacking team, we can concentrate, and I’m hoping the players put it in until the very end. Wouldn’t it be great to see us pressing for a second game in a row? I’m living for it.

I think we’re up against it today, it’s going to be hard to extract anything from the game, but at the moment, I’m just looking for progress as we build to a brighter future. A win would be exciting though, can’t say it hasn’t passed my mind.

It’s absolutely freezing out, so if you’re going, wrap up warm and hope the football on show gives us an added boost of warmth.

Right, that’s me out, see you at the game. xx

Good morning.

N9

Europa League for 6th place

NJ Gunner

First team again. I could get used to this. 🙂

Rich

Potential excuses in for Arteta ✅

Which means additional praise for Arteta if he wins ✅

Which means you can praise Arteta if he loses or draws ✅

Get out early in case I run into Arteta, and I can give him a quick blowy ✅

Successful morning again from a brilliant writer, who manages to pass his opinions off as facts, even though he hasn’t got a clue ✅

NJ Gunner

I am beginning to suspect that we could get a big offer for Leno from Bayern or Juve. The questions would be whether we take the cash to pay for new defenders and a DM, and who would replace him if he left?

Receding Hairline

West Ham reappointing Moyes to save their premier league status should attract some sort of points deduction or outright banishment to league one.

Pierre

It’s got to the stage where I’d be happy just to see a few nice passing exchanges, link up play .

The football has been so dire this season that for the first time in years, my interest has diminished to the point of choosing a round of golf over watching the Arsenal.

Another couple of months of watching Arsenal under Emery and I would be offering to take the dog for a walk during the game….that’s how bad it was getting.

Spanishdave

We have to win today.
Our win % is 26 percent we are the 5 worse team in the Prem for wins this season!!
Until we win is going to be a struggle no matter what Arteta does as the mind set is poor amongst the players, some of them have given up .
An uphill struggle

Arsenal football club are 6 points away from the drop zone at the halfway point of the season. Its match day, a home game against a team who got whopped on their home patch by Southampton( who are two points behind us by the way) and we have fans who will be satisfied to see just a few nice passing exchanges and link up play. God give me strength Last nights training session though shows the man we have in charge is in the business of winning games, he doesn’t need all this desperate bar lowering and continuous reference to… Read more »

Would be nice just to take the lead, it’s not too much to ask is it?

Pedro ‘ it’s going to be hard to extract anything from the game, but at the moment, I’m just looking for progress as we build to a brighter future.’ Not sure why you’re downplaying our chances today. We’re at home and Chelsea fc isn’t the juggernaut it once was. We need a win – get one today and I will breathe a sigh of relief . Arteta can build from that. A draw would be acceptable although we’d still be too close to the danger zone. A loss would actually be extremely worrying. We’re in a very bad position. Arteta… Read more »

Unai

Receding, ever hear the phrase, expect the worst, hope for the best?

Nothing Arteta can do if Soc for example has a brain fart and has a wrestling mach with Abraham in our box.

It’s not bar lowering, just people being realistic and recognising we are a bit shit at the moment.

Pierre

Receding
Get a sense of humour, your endless spiel about winning games is predictable and boring .

Do you actually think that you and the other know nothing Marko, are the only one’s who want Arsenal to win.

Unai

Pierre, agreed, don’t think you will find many, if any, gooners who don’t want to win.

Strange argument to say that as some fans want to see performances improve they don’t care about results.

Receding Hairline

Unai we aren’t any shittier than Southampton with all due respect. Go watch their second goal at the bridge, wonderful team goal with assured one touch passing. If a team so perilous close to the drop can produce that at Stamford bridge, with a clean sheet to booth, I see no reason why Arsenal football club who play with one of the costliest playmakers on the planet and two 50+ million strikers can’t. They is no need for expecting the worst. They really isn’t any need for all this negativity towards today’s game with respect to results. Chelsea have been… Read more »

Pierre you are a shameless. That’s really all I can say.

Dissenter

What injury crises is Pedro referring to?
Already lining up mitigating factors, eh?
I’m glad Arteta does not have this defeatist mindset.

Receding Hairline

Arteta: “The moment you jump into this football club, you feel the pressure attached to playing here. The demands is to win, win trophies, to win every three days, be better than your opponents. Those are the standards here, & it can’t be anything different”

I really like this dude. We have a winner on our hands not some snake oil salesman looking to sell a philosophy.

Arteta wants to win

Pierre

Unai
“Strange argument to say that as some fans want to see performances improve they don’t care about results.”

Receding and Marko are so transparent that I feel embarrassed for them.

If we win , it will be regarded by them as nothing special .

A lose or a draw and it will be , Southampton and Bournemouth beat Chelsea, why can’t we.

Plus they’ll say, Ancelotti has come in and won 2 games, surely Arteta should be doing the same ….

Unai

Receding,

“Chelsea have been whopped by far worse teams than us.”

I’m not saying they haven’t but by the same token, they have thrashed better teams than us.

The argument Southampton beat them so we should too is so simplistic.

I agree with Pedro, it could be a tough game today, doesnt mean I won’t be delighted if we get a result.

Mr Serge

RSPCA he may well do I can’t see him starting Nelson this match

I also think he will start Pepe today

Pierre

Receding
” . We have a winner on our hands not some snake oil salesman looking to sell a philosophy”

Like Emery, do you mean

The backpass

Lol, you would be forgiven to think we are playing against prime barca, with the way the bar is set regarding today’s game.

habesha gooner

We have to win. It’s not like we are away to the most inform team in the league. Pedro is just downplaying our chances so that if we lose he could say “we are in transition”. Chelsea have lost 5 out of 7. At minimum I expect a controlled performance.
If it was Emery I don’t think pedro would give him the same leeway he is giving arteta. I am all for giving arteta time but we need a win somehow.

Unai

Diss, we have Saka and AMN playing, neither are FBs.

Holding, Bel and Ceb are unlikely to be fit enough to play 90.

Whatever you think of Xhaka, he’s one of our best CMs and is unlikely to feature.

Potential for 4 or 5 positions to be occupied by a less than suitable options.

Crisis might be a bit strong but hardly ideal.

Cesc Appeal

‘The players he did have ready trained on the pitch yesterday. I like that. For no reason. If Emery had done it I’d have lodged a complaint with the local council, Arteta does it, I find it the sort of elite thinking a progressive young coach should be showcasing.’

At least you own it!

Nelson

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a photo of Pedro and Arteta hugging at the Emirates in tomorrow’s post

Cesc Appeal

Yeah not sure why our chances are being downplayed so much (I mean I know why for certain people) but Chelsea really are not all that…it’s a case of whether we play into their hands tactically really in terms of allowing them to sit and counter into open space.

China1

I guess Pepe will start yeah after talking his ability up to the press. It was a backhanded compliment tho as he clearly implied pepe isn’t training well so we’ll see As for if we can win today. This season it’s all just a coin toss because there are so many bad, average and Frankenstein teams. Only city Leicester and Liverpool have shown any serious consistency and even then Leicester could well be in for a decline soon and I have a feeling pep will not end this season well We should be aiming to win this game but also… Read more »

At this stage results are what we need for confidence. Our players are suffering because they are not winning football matches.

Get them winning matches for confidence first then performances will improve with the right coaching and tactics.

This idea performances have to improve first then results will follow is flawed.

Winning breeds confidence then with it the arrogance and belief to impose our game.

Unai that last part in your last post to me I hope you were joking, at no time did anyone say any Arsenal fan will not be delighted with a win.

Arteta: “There are some non-negotiables. The demands we put on the team, the commitment, the energy we put in, that dominance. We are the biggest football club in England, and we have to play a little bit with that arrogance, that belief. This stadium has to create fear. I used to hate coming here as an opponent. Opponent must be uncomfortable playing here. Its one of the most beautiful, exciting stadiums in the world. When the crowd gets going & feel them right behind the team, its an incredible place. Lol Pierre. It had already reached that stage for me and we don’t have a dog 😂

Receding Hairline

Pierre is desperate to bring the conversation round to Emery and how the past 18 months have been hell on earth for all Arsenal fans.

Paulinho

“The players he did have ready trained on the pitch yesterday. I like that. For no reason. If Emery had done”

Emery did do that early on last season.

Cesc Appeal

“We need players back from injuries, first of all, to be more solid, more compact. Then we might need to do one or two things if the right players become available. At the moment I’m more concerned with getting the maximum out of the players available to us”

A bit Wengerish but at least slightly more pointed toward getting transfers done.

Not quite the Emery levels of openness people enjoyed when it came to transfers and either wanting to get it done or being frank about not being able to (financially etc).

Cesc Appeal

On that note I imagine some on here will be happy with the rumour that Arsenal are interested in Guimaraes.

Can’t say I know anything about him other than seeing his name on here from some.

Auba on Arteta: “He’s only been in charge for a few days but we’ve seen a big difference already. We needed someone who would come in and shake the whole squad up. Someone with new ideas and someone who would take us in a new direction. Mikel has brought all of that.” ‘We needed a fresh start & something different & we can feel it already. It’s certain that Chaka will depart in January, hopefully we get a good fee as close to the 2016 transfer.
Then we need to use that money to buy 1-2 midfielders who aren’t on anyone’s radar. I don’t want big name signings at Arsenal, just young talent with athleticism and a desire to learn.

The choice was either walk the dog or kick the dog in frustration whenever we conceded.

Kicking the dog didn’t go down too well with the mrs though.

Receding Hairline

Robert Moreno getting the Monaco job sure was a surprise.

Nice of him to go out on his own after Spanish job debacle and the drama with Enrique. But the Monaco job isn’t easy with the owner always looking to reappoint Jardim lol

Paulinho

Yep, in shocker of all shockers, turns out having Bernardo Silva, Mbappe, Fabinho, Lemar, Mendy, and co was the main reason Monaco were so good, not the magical sauce of Jardim himself.

Receding Hairline

Dissenter TR7 is a funny fellow. Guess he expected Aubameyang to reply “I agree with my brother, we needed an experienced coach and I for one am out of here”

No one cares about what this players have to say about the coach, they should start mending their relationship with the fans with good committed performances.

TR7

Dissenter

Auba making positive comments on Arteta is slightly different from normal platitudes we get to hear from players about their manager in the sense that there were rumors going around he wasn’t happy with Arteta’s appointment and with these quotes he basically put paid to all such rumors. Besides what he is talking about is more specific than a clichéd praise.

Receding Hairline

Lol @ Paulinho

Everyone knows a coach is only as good as his players hence why the best coaches pick jobs that enable them get the best players.

R.S.P.C.Arsenal

Mr serge think your right bout Pepe.

Just got a gut feeling he may well jazz it up a bit today.

This game could make or break new yer cellies …

Paulinho

This comment by Mark Noble aged well:

Noble rounded off by insisting that as a result of his personality and preferred playing style, he expects Pellegrini to have a long future at the club.

“I think he’s going to be here for many years, I really do. I think his personality and the way the fans have taken to him and the way we play football – I really do think he’ll be here for years.”

Receding Hairline

Everything is slightly different and more genuine right now isn’t it TR7?

Pierre

Receding
“No one cares about what this players have to say about the coach, ”

I think it is a positive when the experienced and youth players praise Arteta’s work after being at the club for such a short period of time

I would imagine that it is a relief to have a coach that they can relate to , who obviously puts a lot of substance on team spirit , something which we have been sadly lacking over the past year or so.

China1

I heard denis Suarez is available and fit for a loan

Too soon? Sorry guys don’t hit me

Champagne charlie

“You want us to dredge up all the positive things the players said about Emery when he first came on board?“

Clear signifier that there’s a sect of Emery scorned fanboys. Obvious to all at this point.

Love how Arteta is wedded to making a connection again with the fans and developing a level of arrogance within the players talking about “biggest club in England” and the like.

We’ve been timid and reactive far, far too long. Hope to see us show some personality and desire to dictate the game today.

Pierre

Noble has always been a little thick , whereas Aubameyang has intelligence as well as ability

Receding Hairline

The only positive is when performances improve and we start picking up points.

Pedro wrote just before this season started how the spirits were high in training and everyone was excited. We all know how that ended

Words from footballers mean fuck all

Receding Hairline

This same players were also all very excited to see legend Freddie in charge just a few weeks ago.

That went well didn’t it

Valentin

TR7,

Only genius or idiot never changed opinion. Aubameyang may have just realised after a few training sessions that his fear about Arteta was unjustified. Arteta may be an inexperienced manager, but by all accounts he is a great coach. Those sessions may have been enough to convince Aubameyang that he is the right man.

I still think that If Real Madrid were to make him an offer Aubameyang will still jump ship at the first time of asking.

TR7

Receding, still salty from Emery’s sacking ? You repeatedly say you fully back Arteta but any positive comment on him riles you up.

Bob N16

RSPCA, not positive about today particularly. Positive about the medium term future though. Chelsea’s form is inconsistent so I suppose a score draw is most likely. Hope Pepe gets to play from the start with a Martinelli cameo to finish!

Starting line up will be interesting. If no Xhaka, midfield hard to predict.

Receding Hairline

Emery scorned fanboys…. Way to lower the conversation big guy.

Here to divide the sects then rule one are you, just a regular day on le grove for Charles.

Bob N16

Pierre, it’s got to be a relief for to have a coach who is clear about what he wants from his team and can fluently express it!

Receding Hairline

Yes TR7, it riles me up so much I posted a positive comment from him on here just minutes ago.

The penny will drop for you someday my issue is with some characters who put on the Arsenal jersey and nothing to do with Arteta. Meanwhile keep talking about Emery and who loves him or not. A very irrelevant subject if ever they was one.

I guess until pochettino gets a job you have to keep busy somehow

Bob N16

Receding, Freddie was not Emery, that was the initial excitement not that it was Freddie a n particular.

Receding Hairline

Bob I have no idea what that means.

This guys had third best home record in the league under emery and got to a European cup final, the idea they were abused and need therapy is absurd. If truly their only issue was hatred for emery we will be at least six points better off already since his sacking.

Frankly all this emery talk bores me. That quote from Aubameyang will mean fuck all if we don’t start picking up wins and soon.

Receding Hairline

Boring fellow with nothing to offer …..go take a seat dude.

Not today with you. You are boring and frankly dishonest. A team hypocrite

Guns of Brixton

Surely its Willian we have to stop isn’t?

Not the only guy, but he defo tops the list of guys who ‘ll cause us the most pain if we don’t stop him.

Seems to be in fine form and spirits these days.

Cesc Appeal

Looking forward to seeing what Arteta does with the team today.

Particularly the midfield.

The players can talk about the positives Arteta has brought, but they have to play for their manager now.

Receding Hairline

Spot on Cesc

Less talk more action. Let’s see them do it on the pitch. Let’s seem shed the horrible attitude.

Unai

“Why don’t you just let the Arsenal fans have their bit today, nobody cares about your negative, catty bollocks aimed at anyone excited by Arteta. Bin yourself.”

🤣🤣🤣

Cesc Appeal

RH

Exactly.

Arsenal players are the kings of social media and talk.

Now we need to see them running that bit faster, pressing that much more, going for longer, being that much more direct etc.

If you like Arteta and you think he’s done a good job, play for him.

Receding Hairline

Amen Cesc

Anyone putting stock in what those jokers say hasn’t been paying attention.

No Xhaka, Guen and Torr in midfield. Chambers starting ahead of Sokratis

Receding Hairline

Xhaka not involved

Guendouzi starts with Torriera

Chambers returns

John Jules makes the bench

Nelson

Arsenal XI confirmed: Leno; Maitland-Niles, Chambers, Luiz, Saka; Torreira, Guendouzi; Nelson, Ozil, Aubameyang; Lacazette

Nelson

Substitutes: Martinez, Mustafi, Mavropanos, Willock, Smith Rowe, Pepe, John-Jules

Pierre

Oh for the days when the team more or less picked itself.

It’s like a lottery nowadays.

Nelson

I wonder whether Pepe is not ready for Arsenal or Arsenal not ready for Pepe????

Guns of Brixton

I swear when I see Luiz my heart goes into freefall.

Anxiety replays all his greatest hits 😂

Samesong

Nelson starting again

DM

I really don’t get Nelson over Pepe

TR7

Really surprised to see Nelson get two starts in a row. Our bench looks poor.

Nelson

All the 50/50 players, Bellerin, Holding, Ceballos and Martinelli are not even on the Sub bench!

Unai

Another squad of necessity rather than choice.

Hope Nelson n Saka have been working on crossing!

Strange to say, it’s good to see Chambers back.

gonnerram

Think we will struggle with this team. Weak link is Guendo, he slows down the attacks (which can be OK) but takes far too many touches which invites pressure and also closes down the passing lanes. This key aspect invites the whole team to go backwards and then there is no other way other than hoofing the ball up….

Zfree

Reiss look knackered and has no final product, but is getting game after game (now only a few days apart) ahead of our record signing. What in the world

Nelson

“Hope Nelson n Saka have been working on crossing!”

It can’t get any worse than last game.

Unai

This is Arsenal, Nelson, ofcourse it can get worse….
