Racism reared its ugly head again, this time at Spurs, Rudiger claimed he heard monkey chants heading in his direction. The problem was so bad, the Spurs stadium announcer had to ask that it stop.

Quite incredible that people feel emboldened enough to do such disgusting things in public. This sort of thing isn’t even just the fault of the people doing it, it’s the people that sit near the idiots and laugh it off. It’s everyone’s responsibility to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t go on in the stadium. We had a guy who sat near us that did gross things like that, he lost his ticket because Arsenal fans wouldn’t tolerate it.

Karma was a bitch, BORN WINNER Jose Mourinho recorded another loss against a top side as Spurs capitulated against a Chelsea side that have been all over the place of late. I love it. His nice-as-pecan-pie demeanour is usually linked to how well his side is playing… when shit hits the fan, the mask will slip and he’ll be bitching about the lack of investment and his hideous lot in life. He’s the ultimate victim.

On the Arsenal front, we’re being linked with Kevin Volland. I don’t feel sexy at the thought, but I can kind of see what the idea is there. He’s good at holding up the ball, he’s fast, and he brings people into the game. He’s not as good at finishing as Auba, but he has a lot more assists. He’s also more industrious and powerful than both our strikers, Bayer have usually had a hard pressing approach to the game, which is more in keeping with the sort of vision Arteta will have of the game. I think he’s a bit like a shorter Giroud, which again, doesn’t arouse me, but no one has been involved in more goals than him in 2019 (Germany)

We’re also being linked with Dries Mertens as he has a year left to go on his deal. A spectacular player who should have moved to a bigger club a few years ago. He’s 32 years old though, he’s playing in a slower league, my suspicions are this sort of linkage is just to bump him to the top of mind for clubs looking for a quick solution this summer. I’m not sure he’s the age demo we need, it’s not like we have much chance of top 4 this season, regardless of how close we are. Short-termism is pointless and that Swiss guy we had was a disaster.

Szoboszlai is the midfielder that has me waking up in a mess. The Hungarian would vote for Brexit, wear a Maga hat to the office, and probably be an HR issue if he worked in an advertising agency, but damn… what a player.

He’s big, powerful, can dribble, shoot from long range and he works at a club that has one of the most effective approaches to pressing in the world. He reminds me of a cross between Kai Havertz and Aaron Ramsey. Would be a dream type of player to slip into our midfield. Wouldn’t mind his partner, Haaland, playing upfront… but it looks like OGS is very close to him.

Arteta has been talking more with the club and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

“The direction’s going to be very clear & it’s not going to be negotiable. I will need the players to be on board with the right attitude, with the right passion & commitment. Step by step, we will be improving and reaching to find the right identity for us”

“We have to have passion, we have to be dominant, we have to be aggressive. We have to play in the opponent’s territory as much as we want. I want the ball, I want to attack them as much as possible, I want to prevent them from attacking as much as possible”

If you were a player, how could you not be excited about a manager that wanted to play football the right way?

Instead of rambling off on why I love the noises from Arteta, here is a solo podcast for your ears delight, enjoy, give me a 5* for Christmas.

Arteta definitely saying the right things and I hope he carries through.

    Auba
    Luiz
    Ozil
    Xhaka
    Pepe
    Lacazette
    Mustafi

Can all go and go ASAP. There’s money in there and wages free so let’s start the rebuild without any baggage left over from the Emery/Wenger fiasco.

As for Volland and Mertens? Blughh…27 and 32? Not exactly ones for the future but, and only a big butt…if we can snatch these two for a pittance and nothing silly on wages, it might be a solution for a season or two while the internal work gets underway and Arteta can bring through some of the youngsters.

Personally though, I’d like to see Mikel start off with some hot talent around the 20 year old mark. I don’t like the idea of older players coming here for a final pay day and doing FA for it.

We simply have to get the club clean again.

  2. Guns of Hackney

    Chrispy

Nah. Pepe was a YouTube highlight reel player and I think if we had done a proper job scouting him, we would have seen that.

He’s very ordinary on all levels. Painfully dumb in a footballing sense.

  3. Mr Serge

Guns we have to keep Pepe he is new to the league and has not been given the chance to settle he will come good

I would keep laca or auba not sell both either the rest can leave 12.01 jan 1st for me

    This is all very exciting

  4. Romford Pele

“Pepe was a YouTube highlight reel player and I think if we had done a proper job scouting him, we would have seen that.”

He’s not and if you had watched him at Lille you’d know this too

  5. Romford Pele

Hopefully Arteta is getting into these guys in training.

The only realistic deal I can see us doing is a replacement for Xhaka if he goes. Someone athletic please who can run box to box.

No to Kevin Volland. That’s another Lacazette. Not quick enough, poor goalscoring record and can’t create separation which is key in this league.

    St. Mikel

“””We have to have passion, we have to be dominant, we have to be aggressive. We have to play in the opponent’s territory as much as we want. I want the ball, I want to attack them as much as possible, I want to prevent them from attacking as much as possible””””

    Jibberish Alert.
That what this is -unadulterated jibberish

Clearly he didn’t say this to the players before the Everton game.

(It was the worst game of soccer played in living memory- devoid of any of the above idealistic twaddle)

Where was the passion at Goodison or indeed the aggression.?

We heard enough of this sort of nonsense for the best part of 15 months since Wenger departed.

If Arteta is true to his words and is the manager we hope he is

Not one player will be wearing gloves against Bournemouth Boxing Day

    And
And Luiz will be out of the team

Other wise it’s just more BS…..more soundbites.

Action not more words are what’s required.

  7. Mr Serge

Guns would still like to see if our record signing will come good though
Yes to the Salzburg midfielder he looked awesome in the few games I have seen him play

  8. shaun

yep agree with the list also but add Kola and Soc to that list and leave Pepe out of it and not that impressed with the first two potential signings but prepared to believe there is some deep thought in why they are needed like the man said we need a massive culture change people underestimate the damage caused By wenger’s care free couldn’t give a fuck about the fans or this is the way the game should be played weather the player’s I have are capable or not attitude .There was over ten years of this shitty arrogance .Now as soon as an arsenal player spends a week at the club they are like yeah nice don’t even have to bust a gut just get paid , Even frigging Emery was like “there is not the same pressure at Arsenal” that shit needs to change immediately .Arteta can use a two by four , his fist don’t care but that is his biggest mission .If he has to recruit 11 new players then so be it

  9. Countryboy

    From the previous post

    Pedro

As you have said, this is a multi cultural platform. Your posts are read all over the world. Like Arsenal, Le grove is an English brand with a worldwide following.

But I feel affronted any time I see people throw out ethnic and national stereotypes when addressing contrary opinions. These things happen consistently and there are no warnings or repercussions for what is patently bad behavior.

CC consistently throws out email fraud abuse on RH when there is no proof that the latter is a fraudster. If RH can take it, I cant (Oh, I am Nigerian, btw). We can disagree all day but I don’t think it right to abuse someone that way. He didn’t choose to be born in Nigeria just as you had no choice being born in Britain. If you don’t fully grasp the enormity of what i am saying, get this:

Why is racism abhorrent? Because you make judgment about people not because of the humanity they share with you but on the basis of the color of their skin. A SITUATION THEY HAVE NO SAY OVER.

When a poster associates the bad state of the club to “third worlders”, without consequences, it sends out a message that some people can get away with certain things as long as they hold certain viewpoints.

RH may not consistently similar views to yours, and he may not even be insulted by such abuse, but remember that there are a lot of people who come here, not to post, but just to read. A LOT THESE PEOPLE ARE HONEST HARDWORKING NIGERIANS.

When you insult RH with national stereotypes because he disagrees with you, it means anytime I disagree with you, I am already an internet fraudster to you.

The irony of it all is that some of the views CC, Pierre and Un hold are shared by many people in the “third world” because Arsenal is their passion not religion or nationality.

The crazy thing is that there are many people here who are reverting what you guys call conservative ideologies because of the extremes of the woke generation. But when you see national/racial stereotyping being bandied about unhinged, you tend to understand why liberals tend to go overboard as supremacist views tend to be deep seated.

Pedro, I am not accusing you of supporting racist behavior, but there should repercussions for bad behavior like this irrespective of how aligned the Arsenal views of that person are to yours.

And for those who will accuse me of asking for “blog police” or bans for, I am sorry if you think that. All I am asking for is a blog where my race or nationality will not be used as a form of abuse.

  10. CG

    Serge

“”CG really ? The guy has been here 2 mins and you are already at it ffs”””

Serge – you are off course right
    Its very harsh of me.

But you have to remember in soccer management- you are at your strongest when you first arrive at a club.

Arteta sitting on a 3.5 year deal with the fans onside- basically can manage how he pleases.

    He is bomb proof.

He should be laying out the parameters immediately.

    Eg.
Locker room etiquette ( only him)
No glove wearing from the players
    No Luiz
    Etc.

  11. Leftsidesanch

Guns I agree with your list I’m getting mighty tired of those lot but I have full faith that Pepe will come good. Let’s give him time please.

  12. Left testicle

Szoboszlai is the midfielder that has me waking up in a mess. The Hungarian would vote for Brexit, wear a Maga hat to the office, and probably be an HR issue if he worked in an advertising agency, but damn… what a player.
    …..
    Eh?

  13. Mr Serge

CG I really think we need to unite as a fanbase whether it’s on a blog or at the ground and get behind him he will need 18months to sort out this mess
Hopefully the green shoots of recovery will start showing soon

  14. Wasi

CG whats the obsession with gloves man?
Sometimes you make some meaningful post and sometimes you just come as dumb.
What do gloves have to do with performance?

  15. Champagne charlie

“CC consistently throws out email fraud abuse on RH when there is no proof that the latter is a fraudster. If RH can take it, I cant (Oh, I am Nigerian, btw). We can disagree all day but I don’t think it right to abuse someone that way.“

That’s as abusive as calling me a tea bag merchant, what a pathetic claim and an even more embarrassing stance to take by becoming offended in place of another.

What’s your address? I’ll email you my apologies.

  16. InsideRight

Congratulations CG. I didn’t think your comments could get any more ridiculous, but you’ve managed to trump even yourself. Let’s write off Arteta because he didn’t turn the team around without any training sessions and it was a turgid performance after what would have been a least a few minutes of introduction and guidance. Fuck it, burn Arteta at the stake. If only everyone had your wisdom and deep insight. Fuck, burn all of us at the stake for not grasping your genius.

  17. Batistuta

    Freddie

From the last post, think it’s an age old lie that the Italian league is a “slow” league, that’s simply not even remotely true anymore.. The last two games between Lazio and Juve have been excellent proof to show otherwise, league is just as fast as just as competitive as any other especially last 2/3 seasons….I mean Pool have a game in hand and are still 10 points clear in December…. Watched palace v Brighton last Monday and it was a borefest of epic proportions….

  18. Darran Lancley

Excellent podcast- really enjoyed that. Arteta was my number 1 target given our circumstanceas. His obsession and energy, and desire to embed this high performing culture were traits I also did not see in other candidates.

  19. siddharth14

Racism is deeply ingrained in the cultures across the world. It is something which will always exist. No amount of fines, punishment, public shaming and education can completely eradicate it.

Ironically, the best way to address racism is to completely ignore it. I don’t want to open flood gates here but that is my opinion. The more coverage it gets, the more bigger it gets. We are living in an age when even negative publicity is adored by common people. If you want to address it, stop naming the culprits or the specific acts or the aggrieved one.

  20. Sid

Pepe will come good , fast, good shot, will be better than Sonaldo at spurs.
Kolasinovs is good attacking/strong so he’s not bad as a back up with a good midfield he would be great.

  21. Pierre

    CG
“Clearly he didn’t say this to the players before the Everton game.”

I think we can give Arteta a pass on the Everton game as I dont think that line up had anything to do with him.

Football wise, I also wouldn’t expect a massive difference for the Bournemouth game due to the short time he’s had with the players and he will be looking for a result more than a good performance.

The home games v chelsea and United I would imagine we will start to see his influence on the team and our playing style.

I’m sure Arteta is having many one to one chats with players about what he expects from them and if they dont meet his expectations then then he will bring in players who will give him what he wants.

  22. Freddie Ljungberg

    Bati

    It has already begun.

He’s a dunce for allowing the director of football and Technical director (aka his bosses) to walk into the dressing room with him when he’s been at the club for 1 day.

Apparently gloves are evil too, easy to say sitting in south africa where you don’t have to worry about freezing your ass off 6 months a year.

Oh and he can’t speak about anything more complicated than “go out and express yourselves” as a tactic, it confuses CGs feeble mind, no bueno evil lego man.

He did the exact same things with Emery in the same time frame but back then it was elite thinking apparently, let’s see how much leeway he gets from Pedro this time around, guessing and hoping it’s a lot less, he’s so stupid it actually blows my mind every time I make the mistake of reading any of his posts.

  23. Romford Pele

“Ironically, the best way to address racism is to completely ignore it.”

Because that’s been working for hundreds and thousands of years hasn’t it.

UK, like many countries, has racism issues. Just here the problems tend to be more structural and institutional. Racism is a societal issue. Until we get serious about wanting to address it in its various guises, we will not see any sort of change.

  24. CG

    Re Arteta

If Arteta plonks David Luiz in a back 4 for Arsenal against Bournemouth ( where he played in a Chelsea team that lost 4 nil there last season) and then plays him in the home games against Chelsea ( Abraham) or Man Utd ( Rashford)- I will be a 100% out Arteta

Its alright talking a good game- but you need understand the basics first.

If he priorities Luiz ( Edus’ man) over whats best for the team- I will want him out.
    End Off.

(If he ostracizes Luiz immediately – he will have my backing.)

Chelsea would not be playing like they did yesterday- if Luiz was wearing blue- so its not too difficult to understand the basics of the game

But lets wait and see- before we jump to them conclusions.

Less Twaddle talk- more Action please.

What a marker it would send- to back up his words -if Luiz was immediately sidelined.

  25. Freddie Ljungberg

    Bati

It maybe faster than it used to be but it doesn’t have the intensity and rough and tumble of the PL.

If Ramsey can’t stay fit there there’s is zero reason to believe he would have done it here, along with his terrible injury record for us over the years.

    RP

My realistic dream January window is Xhaka and Ozil out and Sangare and Szoboszlai in. Has been for a year.

Would probably break about even if you consider the savings in wages, especially if we can kick Mustafi out too.

  26. Romford Pele

Lol literally all the City players wear gloves. They’ve amassed 198 points over the course of two title-winning seasons. Behave yourself. That is the most pathetic excuse.

  27. Countryboy

“That’s as abusive as calling me a tea bag merchant, what a pathetic claim and an even more embarrassing stance to take by becoming offended in place of another.
What’s your address? I’ll email you my apologies.”

    Case in point.

When bad behavior is not punished, it is repeated.

    CC
    1. Tea bag merchant? I don’t know if you were called that. I can only comment on what I see. I don’t even know if thats an insult. That’s because I am seeing it for the first time.

    2. Abuse is not the issue though, is it. Its when it has ethnic/ national/racial undertones.

    3. About getting offended when another is insulted, you see that is what happens when you abuse someones ethnicity or nationality. Other people get offended because they see themselves in the abused person because of shared heritage or origin.

    4. That you double down on the email allusions says more about you than it does me.

    5. Like I said, humanity is universal. Sadly though, Stupidity is too

  28. Romford Pele

Freddie, yeah Xhaka is looking likely. So Sangare as a replacement is welcome. I just don’t see who’s taking Ozil on those wages. We are going to have to pay him to leave but i think that might be in the summer rather than next month.

Hopefully we can get guys like Mustafi and Elneny out asap though.

  29. Freddie Ljungberg

Chambers is suspended against Bournemouth so we’re down to Sok Luiz and Mustafi, we want to get rid of Mustafi and he wants to leave.

We have AMN and Saka as the only fullback alternatives for another month.

Bit early to judge Arteta on lineups he doesn’t have a choice in making.

But I forgot, we have a very good squad so go ahead and judge I guess, I’ll be holding mine until he has the proper tools at his disposal.

  30. siddharth14

    CG

You do have a novel way of putting across your point and you have been fairly spot on in your predictions. I do agree with that Arteta talk being a yellow indicator. Unless we start seeing any subtle changes in our soft touch approach, all this talk is just hogwash.

However, i would like to correct you on that part of hearing this nonsense for a good 15 months after Wenger departed. We have been actually hearing this toxic crap for a good old last 7 years at least!

    Cheers man …..

  31. Sid

Theres a reason ze mental fails them in europe, its also clear this season they lack ze mental strength, its a general rule

  32. Romford Pele

Chambers suspended? Fak. The only CB that has looked semi-competent. Sokratis, Luiz and Mustafi are horror shows. Is Holding still injured? And we’ve only got AMN and Saka at FBs? What about Bellerin? We need some players back asap. It’s weird because a month ago we literally had no injuries.

  33. Freddie Ljungberg

    RP

He has been heavily linked with Fenerbache so we’ll see. He only has 27m left on his contract and someone has to pay him a salary anyway so I don’t think it’s impossible that we can just release him on a free without having to pay anything.

Surely he’s not so useless that some club would mind spending what amounts to a 20m transfer fee on him? Well maybe not.

His stock is high in Turkey/ the muslim community though so maybe they see it as a commercial opportunity, we can only hope at this stage.

  34. CG

    Romford

“””Men wearing gloves is a problem. So I guess Henry, Vieira etc all lacked mental strenth right? Behave.””””

the point I made about glove wearing was in particular to the teenage and younger players.

I have no real problem – with the senior players wearing them.

I have a very serious problem when youngsters ‘trying to impress’ are wearing them in front of their new manager( who forewarned them – he would be studying them)

Last time -I looked we were mid table ( worst for 38 years)

Get the Gloves off – and lets get scrapping.

  35. Freddie Ljungberg

    RP

Think Bellerin and Holding are still being assessed, don’t know if they have picked up any more knocks though.

Chambers decided to take Christmas off with that yellow card in the 87 minute against Everton.

Hopefully Holding is back soon but he hasn’t looked good since coming back from injury either. Desperately need a top class CB in the summer latest to partner Saliba.

Upa, Saliba, Holding, Chambers and maybe Sok for experience and wrestling tips is what I would probably look for.

  36. Leftsidesanch

“I have a very serious problem when youngsters ‘trying to impress’ are wearing them in front of their new manage”

For the love of everything holy!

    What does this even mean?!?!?!!?!

I’m disappointed at myself for not doing my usual routine of skipping your drivel.

  37. Bamford10

“Racism reared its ugly head again”

Yes, it did, Pedro, and on Le Grove. This when Un Na described the AFTV crowd as “third worlders”. Whether this was racist, xenophobic, classist or all three of these, it was a clear attempt to demean people from a certain part of the world and/or of a certain skin color and culture. This should not be tolerated, in my opinion — here or anywhere else.

  38. CG

    Sidharth

“””””I do agree with that Arteta talk being a yellow indicator. Unless we start seeing any subtle changes in our soft touch approach, all this talk is just hogwash.”””””

You have it explained it better than me .
    Exactly.

  39. shaun

yeah agreed holding has not looked good since he came back but in fairness he had a serious injury but personally I have never thought him mobile enough anyway .Upa, Saliba yep would be good to see but for Bournemouth god knows as luis ,soc and mustaffi are all useless and we should really try an avoid Soc playing in that game as that has penalty written all over it

  40. Guns of Hackney

Look, Pepe is 24. There’s no more excuses at that age.

    He can’t head
    Doesn’t track or defend
    Can’t pass for shit
    One footed beyond belief
    No football brain

I can’t see any coach making all or most of this better, not at 24.

Personally, if someone fancies him for £50m, we need to breath deep and take it. Zero point going deeper into a lucrative contract to find out we have another Walcott on our hands (but without the goals).

  41. Nelson

I like players who have a heart to fight and who work hard. For example, I prefer Bernardo Silva than Pepe. They are both skillful. But one has a much high work rate than the other.

  42. Romford Pele

“Upa, Saliba, Holding, Chambers and maybe Sok for experience and wrestling tips is what I would probably look for.”

Good list but i’d lump Sokratis in with the others. He’s braindead too. Not overly keen on Holding but him and Chambers need to be kept for the HG quota. Plus they’re not the worst as squad players.

RE Ozil, yes his stock is high in Turkey due to his heritage and Muslim roots. And he’s said he’d like to move there before but nobody there has the money to pay him what he earns so unless he takes a pay cut i don’t see it. Turkish media always link him there but they’re well known for being unreliable.

  43. Freddie Ljungberg

Pepe has started 11 games for us, is still adapting to the league. It doesn’t matter how old he is, most players coming to the PL takes time to settle.

Despite that he has scored 4 goals and has 5 assists, and been Man of the match 4 times, useless alright.

It’s possible he doesn’t work out for us but writing him off now is just stupid, par for the course with GoH though.

Some of our fans are just brain dead beyond belief.

  44. Gentlebris

‘Pedro I read your response to Dissenter and was very impressed,no name calling,no abuse just stating fact.’

This dude actually expected Pedro to be name calling on his own fucking blog, and actually praised him that he did not!

These sorts are always very dangerous neighbours……the kind that gives you kudos for not setting fire to your own latest BMW…..the other things they are actually capable of would make you sell your house and run for your life.

  45. CG

    Well said G of H

There is nothing you can do with him.
If he was a racehorse- you would shoot it……and get the insurance money

    The Clown didnt fancy him
    Fred didnt fancy him
Both sided with the 18 year Saka

Arteta will want us to be a compact team- so he cant have Pepe continually loosing the ball- ala Sanchez……

    Get the Shotgun out.
    Been Duped there.

  46. Freddie Ljungberg

    RP

I’m not a big fan of Sok either but out of the 3 experienced CBs he’s probably the lesser evil.

Mustafi has to go, that’s not even debatable at this point and I don’t think Luiz is going to accept taking a backseat role to a couple of teenagers without being toxic. It is what it is.

    Re Ozil.

He only has 18 months left and no one is ever going to pay him that much again, maybe a quarter if he’s lucky. If he gets a 3 year contract at say 100k a week and a lump sum of 10-15 mil and gets his move I think he’ll jump on it. Many clubs can afford that, question is if they want to.

  47. Guns of Hackney

    4 goals = £18m per goal.
    5 assists = £14.4m per assist.

Or a total of 9 contributions for £8m each.

I’m going to say that this would be considered utter bollocks if it were another club or business outlay for return.

I doubt he’s selling many shirts either.

  48. Freddie Ljungberg

    GoH

Yeah, I forgot we paid 72m for him to only play for 4 months, he will never score or assist for us again. You’re beyond stupid.

  49. Gentlebris

‘Despite that he has scored 4 goals and has 5 assists, and been Man of the match 4 times, useless alright.’

Impressive figures I must say, and we all know he’s still tanking. Should rock it high when he begins to really ball.

Dude has had these kinds of vegetable moments in the past, he always spun it around.

We will get value for our £72m.

  50. InsideRight

If a player is following instructions, performing well and working hard, it makes absolutely no difference whether or not they are wearing gloves.

As for Arteta’s talk, he is setting out his vision as every manager/head coach would. There is only a problem when a year in the same language is being used and there has been no evidence of progression and players are not making that vision a reality. All this yellow indicator rubbish is just that, rubbish. Save the criticism for when it is deserved, not when the lad has been in post less than 24 hours. It’s not his fault other managers have said similar and not delivered.

  51. Vladdy P

Racism against white people is the most prevalent, and actively encouraged by our mass media. Not pleasant what’s happening these days, but you kept pushing the ‘fuckwhypeepo’ narrative, forcing them to identify as a homogenous group. Pushback was inevitable sooner or later. Sad state of affairs, really.

  52. Champagne charlie

    Countryboy

For someone that frequents a blog about an English football club you’re completely out of touch with elements of British culture/nature of communication and interaction.

You’re claiming racism, stereotyping, stupidity etc. But painfully unaware that you can be a cunt, or a cunt and it mean a pal or a prick. Intention is the one and only factor of consideration when judging what’s claimed to be any of the above you suggest.

On Receding: he’s a Nigerian that works in IT. If ripping him about email scams is offensive to you that is your issue and not mine. I don’t need ‘proof’ of him being an email fraudster to make stereotypical remarks as a pisstake, it’s not a genuine accusation.

“That you double down on the email allusions says more about you than it does me”

Yes, says I make light of pedantic and frankly ignorant chat about accusations of racism. I do so because I’m more than secure in the know you my own views/intentions on the particular subject….however “stupid” I’m claimed by some whalloper around the globe who’s never had a meaningful conversation with me let alone met me.

Can only assume you’ve not walked the shores of England, can I give you advice if/when you do so in future? Don’t condemn everyone as racist or immoral or dark because they choose to cover all manner of subjects in humour. It’s what we do.

When I’m on a plane with my family, or close friends, and there’s a fella with a turban do you think I’m going to joke amongst my lot about a bomber? Yes, yes I am. Do I equate all turban wearers to terrorists? No, a few aren’t. You get the jist.

Partey has a release clause of £42 Million apparently?

If so that is the player Arsenal should go all out to get. Drop him into our midfield and instantly create balance and allow other players to focus more on different aspects of midfield play instead of shitting the bed every time the opposition break and playing with that neuroses hanging over them.

It’s just an opinion based on years of watching players from various sports etc. Sometimes one just pegs the bad ones, just like some can pick the superstars.

I want him to do well…a fast, tricky goal scoring winger is something we’ve missed since Pires or Freddy but Pepe just doesn’t seem right.

It’s the brainlessness that bothers me the most. The speedy run and head down antics are too reminiscent of a certain Theo who failed to deliver on his enormous talent.

Hopefully Mikel might slow him down a bit and get him to use his eyes.

    But I think he’s a dud.

You were warned about CG though. He’s here to monologue and he s worth a read that leads to belly aching laughter 1% of the time.
He did get Emery right from the outset so that’s that.

  56. Cesc Appeal

Szobolasai is a very talented player, would like us to sign him provided the fee was ridiculous.

But he isn’t going to be an instant fix to our issues and reading up on him from Salzburg fans they do say he can struggle sometimes when the game is intense and when he’s pressed.

That would obviously develop with time in the EPL and coaching but people cannot be thinking we’d buy him, drop him in the midfield and then think job done.

  57. Cesc Appeal

    *wasn’t ridiculous.

We’re not United over here ‘fine we will sign him but only if we pay £20 Million over the odds’.

  59. Useroz

What’s in the 2019 clip of Szoboszlai would suggest EPL pricing is going to be high. It’d be just hot air with no ‘fee’ mentioned in the media. Cheap if under 40m.

The dumpster list should be for winter clearance except Laca and Pepe. I’d add Elneny, Mikhi and some.

No loan bs … let’s do clean breaks.

But if Laca / Pepe isn’t coming around by end of season join the list for the summer

My priority to clear over time:

    Elneny, Mikhi
    Ozil
Luiz. (unless MA makes him def mid)
    Mustafi
    Auba
    Marvo
    Xhara
Ceballos. (return – slow; a bit weak)
    ———-
    Chambers. (too slow)
    Sok
Nelson. (negative play; unless MA can fix
    Laca
    Pepe
Torreira (tiny; want out of UK)

Last time we were linked with Szoboszla the fee mentioned was in the 20-25 region, don’t know how much that has changed now though.

He’s still 19 and plays in Austria so they can’t demand something crazy for him.

It’s not like Haaland where he just smashes in goals every week and he’s on the wish list of every major club.

Good thing most football stadiums have high def security cameras that cover every area allowed by law. The new spurs stadium’s camera will easily ferret out the idiots.
It’s amazing how decent people are just a horrible referee’s call away from hurling vile abuse in a crowd. The ref in the spuds game has not improved at all, always been nag….and still bad.

  68. Graham62

I know it’s Christmas and all that but it still astounds me that there are some so called fans amongst us who take joy in criticising someone who has only been at the club just 48 hrs.

What is it with you lot?

This club/ team has gone through so much turmoil in recent years and yet some staggeringly delusional folk on here seem to forget why we find ourselves in this mess and who are truly to blame.

Of course, I’m not going to bore you with a repeat of the reasons why we are where we are and the true culprits in all of this but what I will say is that Emery was given a modicum of leeway in the first six months of his reign, should we therefore not afford Arteta the same space?

Critical comments are all well and good but where were you all when things started to go pear shape in the 2008-09 season? Don’t you remember? Losing at home to Hull, Villa. Being embarrassed at Fulham, Stoke and Sunderland and our now infamous four in a row 0-0 draws. What about our classic 4-4 against Spuds not forgetting our keystone cops 4-4 performance at Anfield?

Wenger was given a decade to dig us a massive hole and the experts amongst us allowed him this freedom because of (1) his past successes and (2)because it was good to watch 😂😂. I remember going to many games in that season and I can assure you it wasn’t frigging good to watch. It was a fudging embarrassment.

Arteta deserves time and space to work on his plan and doesn’t need these so called “wonder fans” promoting scorn at such an early stage in the proceedings.

No wonder we find ourselves in such a predicament.

Time for Raul to lean on his contacts to make the clearance happen in January and earn his fat wages.

A half dozen sales on the list would quite realistically generate 100m+ that must of course go to player purchases.

Arteta must be form in what he needs and fans would back you.

  71. Romford Pele

Bernd Leno on Arteta: “[Before] Everton he didn’t speak too much about quality or tactics, he just saidhe wants to see players who run, support their teammates, defend the goal and play as a team.”

  72. Gentlebris

Arsene always thought one or two players were what we needed, never more.

He believed the strength here would cover the lack of it there, and for a whole summer he signed only a goalie when we badly needed tough defenders and a good scorer of the goals.

He technically passed on Suarez just because he believed we could do without him as we had great guys in the middle who could put in some goals.

By the time he realized that was no formula for the EPL, the fans were already stuck on his back and he had begun to panic, therefore he went into the windows and made panic buys.

For Arteta to succeed, he has to realize he can’t allow a weak spot in his team. And since our team is littered with invalids, he must insist on heavily using the next two transfer windows. Anything but that, this team will continue to struggle, perhaps more decently.

  73. Marko

Napoli and Roma want to sign Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac. Napoli want to sign the Bosnian international next month. [@SkySportsNews]

Arteta acknowledging the importance of athleticism in the PL: “For City, or any top side, it’s obviously great to have players who’ll bring you control of the ball, control of matches. But in the Premier League, it’s vital to have guys who’ll offer massive amounts of intensity and athletic aggression in key one-v-one moments. If you don’t have that, then, for however much you construct intricate interior play, the big beasts of the Premier League will eventually press you and rob the ball from you.”

    4 goals = £18m per goal.
5 assists = £14.4m per assist.Or a total of 9 contributions for £8m each.I’m going to say that this would be considered utter bollocks if it were another club or business outlay for return.I doubt he’s selling many shirts either.

Arteta said in his press conference that the club are dealing with the lawyers and clubs of said coaches. Expects a resolution this week. We know Steve Round is one of his assistants as is the Brentford GK coach.

  81. CG

    (Thanks GB)

I am a fan of Arteta but he needs to hit the ground running.
But I am afraid he is already showing early warning signs of weakness and inexperience

If Arsene Wenger appointed Steve Round as his no.2 -PedRo in a particular would be all over it.

Its nonsensical. Round was not working with him at Man City. Round was out of work. Is it the Old Pals Act?

He has a litany of failures on his CV.

Should we not demanding the best coaches to coach our players?

Name one instance where Round has ever been a success?
    Just the one will do

Arteta doesn’t have a top team to be honest.
He should have spent the last 18 months trying to art that out but I guess the people he likes are locked into contracts as well.
Looks like he won’t be that effective till the summer.

  83. Marko

Inaki Cana is supposed to be good so that’s good. Look this is the first time Arteta is putting together a team so it’s probably not going to be perfect it might change over the course of his time here. I did like those pictures from training it looked like he got stuck in. High energy is something this club needs big time. For me though the proof will be in the it’s and out’s in January.

  84. Vladdy P

Arteta was always a smart player and I can’t imagine he got dumber working with pep. Think it says a lot that he went from a coach to an assistant manager in such a short space of time.

  85. Marko

If Arsene Wenger appointed Steve Round as his no.2 -PedRo in a particular would be all over it.

I mean big Weng had some shockingly bad assistants/coaching staff over the years. He just hired his mates who said nice things about him and kept their mouths shut.

Hard for Arteta to get the right people straight away which is understandable it’s his first job and that unknown factor is probably more pertinent to an assistant coach already in a job. Why risk it. Torrent wants to be a head coach and Borrell figured if I’m going to be an assistant it might as well be for Pep instead of Mikel.

Anyway far far too much importance is given to assistants these days. Fergie had some shit assistants over the years and he was successful. Klopp lost his long term highly rated assistant there a couple years ago and he went on to win the Champions League.

  86. Marko

“I think this is the way he needs to push us. We understood the message. We didn’t let [Everton] have any transitions and the distances [between our defenders and their attackers] were much closer”

    Leno on Mikel.

  87. Cesc Appeal

Arteta is certainly saying all the right things.

Let’s hope the club doesn’t make him stick with total wasters like Ozil.

It’s one thing for Arteta to acknowledge your need pace power, running, intensity etc but if he’s lumped with players like Ozil all that will ever be is a comment and not a reality.

I don’t want to hear any clean slate bullshit or any ‘Arteta can unlock’ him bullshit. He’s had his chances, his attitude is appalling, his work rate nonexistent.

  88. Ishola70

Racism in grounds need to be kicked out.

The media circus that follows on from it all though.

The Chelsea keeper has a bottle that was thrown at him in the same match. Barely mentioned in comparison to the idiot who made the monkey noise.

The idiot who made the monkey noise became headline news. It was the first item on the same evening’s BBC News.

Pundits one after the other wanting to look more enraged than the previous and encouraging actions like walking off the pitch and abandoning matches.

Told by a pundit that Rudiger would be sitting crying in the dressing room with head in hands after the match. How about he may have been the complete opposite and he had already got that moron out of his head who racially abused and instead was celebrating in the dressing room with his team mates.

Whatever happened to the notion of when you emphasise so much the actions of a moron you actually give him some kind of importance in his own mind that he doesn’t deserve.

The reactions we see are suggesting that racism is endemic and hugely widespread in English society today. It is not. What we are rightly seeing is the last standing small minority who still feel it is ok to give out casual racist remarks or shouts being cleaned up.

Needs to be dealt with but can do without the media circus following it.

It’s not about generic banter. I never said you shouldn’t call him a cunt or whatever. He probably is, especially the way he is opinionated about virtually everything.

You know what I meant. And I do not wish to repeat it.

RH may see it as bantz (I doubt this because his reaction is usually in the negative), but because your black best friend knows you are not racist when you use the n-word (like in a song), shouldn’t embolden you to use the word in front of other black people who aren’t your friends

  90. Romford Pele

“Arteta is certainly saying all the right things.”

CA, i’m certainly hoping he’s allowed a say on transfers. As someone who played in the PL for over a decade, he knows of the requirements needed and probably has a handle on certain personnel. Club has to back him.

  91. Ishola70

A couple in West Sussex were murdered, killed yesterday.

    Killed. Dead. Murdered.

It was shown as an afterthought news item right near the end by the BBC on their evening news programme.

And as said the idiot involved with Rudiger became the headline news first item.

  92. Wasi

What my realistic dream January window would look like
    Players sold
    Xhaka-30m
    Elneny-12
    Mkhi-15
    total-57 mil

    Players bought
Partey-45m (release clause around that mark reportedly)
Demiral(If Possible)-30m (Starting to get games at Juve now which could change Juve’s stance)
One Loan – best option depending on the market- 2.5m
    total-77.5 m

Net- 20.5m (Hardly imposed for a club our size)

If Auba doesn’t buy in Arteta’s vision. Then sell for 65 mil and replace with Werner or someone of that ilk( young and high ceiling) or 30m + Jovic .
Maybe even get Mertens as a stop gap.

  93. Marko

CA I think with whats gone on they’ll be more inclined to make it easier for the manager at Arsenal. I honestly think these past few months have been real eye openers on certain players and instead of trying to force a manager to make it work they’ll back the manager instead. Which is smart because otherwise we’ll be looking for a new manager inside 12-18 months. Surround him with better and we’ll improve. No surprise then that we’re hearing of potential moves for Xhaka et all. Kolasinac, Ozil, Mustafi and one of the strikers could be enough for a rebuild in January. Then next summer the same with Sokratis and Luiz. Those players alone replaced and the football IQ of the team goes up exponentially.

  94. Marko

Wanna sort out racism in football? Bring in lengthy bans for players and points deductions for teams. Name and shame individuals caught doing it. Yesterday for example had their been a rule in place that a club gets a one or two points deduction for any racist incident proven I guarantee you that fans around the cunt in no uncertain terms would have shut that fucker up. In saying all that you introduce it and most Italian clubs will be running a negative points total on the season. Not Juve though they’re generally seen as a modern example in Italy I believe

  97. Pedro

CA, they’ll let him do what he needs to do, but I think Arteta will give the senior players a chance… he can’t just burn the place down in the first week, it’ll make his job hard if he loses 7 senior trouble makers in one go.

  98. Ishola70

Willian righly seen as man of the match yesterday. Was excellent.

Mount also full of energy and threat.

What was missed by many though was that Marcos Alonso was reverted back to a wingback where he is such a threat himself. One of the best most effective wingbacks in the EPL.

Will be interesting to see if Lampard continues with three at the back and wingbacks now. Could easily go on a good run with that formation.

Mourinho showed his negative side again. Two DMs selected in a home match and an AM isolated ahead of them.

Chelsea took the iniative in the game from the first whistle.
