Mesut’s peaceful attacks push Emery into corner

by .

Mesut Ozil is back in the news again, drawing attention to himself in an unflattering light, but making the same statement again… he ain’t going nowhere.

He doubled down on his grim relationship with a dictator. He stated his love for Arsene. He reiterated that he’s training hard and wants to play.

So how did Unai respond? With a messaging approach as garbled as a hippy atop a London Underground train in Canning Town.

“But really the last two to three weeks he has improved with us in training,”

“I didn’t close to him the possibility to play. … My idea is to use all the players and he is one who can help us. He also has very big skills and quality we will need in the next matches.”

UNAI FFS MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

You either like him… or you hate him. This indecision on what you want from the player looks so bad. Worse than your assistant coach learning Spanish.

Leadership demands consistency.

Emery needs a PR strategist in his team. Every time Mesut talks to the press, he manages to persuade the people he’s the victim and he’s just out there trying to make a living at a club he loves.

It’s masterful… because Emery always caves. It’s clever, because the German’s army rises up and amplifies his victimhood.

I think we should offer a way back into the side for the German. We lack creativity, and as far as I can see, there’s been no benefit to his absence. We don’t create. We don’t defend well. We are one dimensional. The manager should find a way to extract some value from this mega deal he’s on. Worst case scenario… Mesut shames himself again. Best case, we unleash the front three with opportunities.

Short post today, can’t believe we’re a Monday game again.

See you in the comments. x

Pedro, honestly, I know you (and many others) don’t rate Emery, and you may well be right on that front (I still think he needs more time, but can totally see why people are struggling to back him based on this season so far). However, you try to look at every single thing he does in the most negative way possible. I personally absolutely rate the way Emery is dealing with Ozil. Wenger played him because of his name – he was shit for years (with the occasional good game thrown in), but it didn’t matter. Emery has dropped him… Read more »

“He doubled down on his grim relationship with a dictator.”

Ozil is a disgrace. Using every opportunity to slag Germany and simultaneously puff a brutal dictator. Westerners constantly abase themselves for the real and imagined crimes of their ancestors, but in Turkey it’s literally illegal to even acknowledge the Armenian genocide. Never mind what they do to the Kurds. Yet Ozil has the cheek to lambast the Germans, the country with the wokest government in Europe. Piss off.

Eduardo

“as far as I can see, there’s been no benefit to his absence”

The benefit to Ozil’s absence is that we would be even worse with him in the team.

Here we go, another Ozil debate. How is Emery caving here exactly? Has he ever said Ozil would never play? No. Did he say Ozil needed to train harder to earn his inclusion in the squad? Yes. Where the disconnect Pedro? It seems pretty straightforward. Emery acknowledged Ozil has been putting in the effort in the last two weeks or so, so if he still doesn’t play him going forward , then we can have the Emery is full of shit conversation, but until then ….. Keown had a few words to say about Ozil and what some of his… Read more »

I’m seriously beginning to hate Mesut Ozil! What a piece of horse manure. It’s never about how he has changed games. It’s never about how his goals win a game. It’s never about how he dominated in a big game. It’s always about him never showing up, being sick, manipulating the media, disappearing in big games!!! Damn Wenger pox on you for bringing this cancer to Arsenal football club! They pressured Emery into bringing him back to the fold and it started our degeneration into fifth place last season, along with untimely injuries. Ozil is a bloody cancer …. Get… Read more »

A googly eyed amphibious gamestation lover with a penchant for genocide might just pull Emery down. I kind of like that.

Arsenal are quite simply: unlovable. We’re renegade but not in a good way. Unique…like the first case of AIDS. Rich, but lacking imagination. Poor. A literal smorgasbord of bullplop.

We’re basically Paul Gascoigne as a football club.

Clown college.

GillespieRoadNoMore

I am amazed at how Ozil can still be paid given his apparent appaling attitude – if it is true that he recently bribed folk at Colney to say he was there when he wasn’t surely that alone is grounds for dismissal on the basis of effectively defrauding the club, receiving payment but not honouring his side of the bargain with his physical presence and application.

Graham62

Ok, let’s play Ozil on Monday evening against Sheffield United. Why not? Let’s see if his actions match his words. If he says he’s ready, put him in.

Whatever sympathy he may have acquired in recent weeks ,will soon be lost when he starts showing those negative traits that we all know are engrained into his game.

So yes, let’s give our opponents even more of an incentive to go out and beat us. As if they needed it anyway.

This whole frigging saga is painfully draining.

Imagine how Emery feels.

Fucking boring

Love what Keown had to say about Ozil- the old school generation would not have tolerated him. Also am highly irriated with trying to understand UE.

Bring Ozil on a sub when we have won the game… give him 15 mins.

Marc

There are those of us who see a so called professional athlete who earns £18 million a year playing the victim as pathetic. It also demonstrates that it’s a major part of his psychology hence his complete lack of fight on the pitch.

Pedro – you’ve got to start being able to separate your dislike of Emery from other events. A couple of years ago you would have called Ozil out on this. Calling Ozil a light weight who seriously needs to fucking man up does not change what Emery is doing good or bad.

Marc

GillespieRoadNoMore

I’m pretty sure that the rumours about Ozil paying people to effectively clock him in and out are bullshit.

In any other job it would be grounds for instant dismissal and bearing in mind the club are looking to get rid of him it’d play right into their hands.

Guns of SF

Forget Ozil
its the issue with Xhaka that is more worrisome.
Ozil is gone and done…. he wont impact us this year.

Xhaka OTOH is who im most concerned about.

100% with you there. You know a player is useless when his owns fans grown when a ref pulls a yellow card not a red.

Emery does have a decision to make over the next few weeks. Our next 5 or 6 league fixtures are games we should be looking to take at least 11-13 points from. Some are very winnable. If we have ambitions of top 3 or 4 I think this is fair. It’s a really important period of games for him where any more bad results and performances are going to be met with increased scepticism. There’s a logic that Ozil could be of help with this but also one where he could hinder. Judging from Emery’s choices so far this season… Read more »

Totally agree on the Xhaka issue, barring that we hope it may in some way come to a head in the next few fixtures. Fully expect Emery to continue to aimlessly select his middle three based around the limitations of Xhaka! Raul and Emery have tried to play the PR game and have just been schooled by a master. By publicly arguing that Özil did not make the bench because he was not trying hard in training, they just created a problem for themselves. Anybody could see that the next question was always going to be “what happen if and when he trains well?”. And Özil via his interview was smart enough to lead reporters to ask it on his behalf. I’d far rather see Ozil in the match day squad than Xhaka. It’s a shame we spend most of the time discussing players we’re not keen on, rather than considering the fantastic young prospects we have, a potentially killer forward line etc.

Read great article on Athletic website on Freddie; his coaching style, players who played with him etc. He may need a little more time as a No 2 but if I were Edu and Sanhelli, I would be seriously considering him for when Emery is discarded.

Marc

Valentin

And what proof is there that Ozil is training well?

Marc

“I’m sure you would feel the need to reply if your bosses were accusing you of something that wasn’t true.

Good for him , I say….he has made Raul and Emery look like incompetent fools.”

Pierre – how has he made them look fools. If he was tearing it up every time he got a game he’d be making a statement, coming out and saying “Ozil train hard good good” makes him look like a retard or as if he’s playing the victim. Any impartial observer just sees a lazy uninterested player who’s wasting his talent.

Marc

I can’t wait for the next appearance Ozil gets when we see the same old Ozil drifting about not doing much of anything. Pierre will then find a way to blame the manager for a lack of effort.

Bamford10

Emery has Sanllehi, Edu, Kroenke and many if not most fans behind him on this matter.

Ozil has been a lifeless, weak, soft, ineffectual player for years now, and Emery and Sanllehi’s recent comments suggest that he has been dogging it in training.

Emery is handling the situation just fine. If Ozil wants to bring energy, enthusiasm, commitment and desire to training and matches, I’m sure Emery would love to bring him back into the mix in one way or another. Otherwise, I think the club is moving on.

The problem with our creativity lies with the poor selection of other players in midfield.

DUIFG

Don’t get me wrong i can see ozils flaws but our football has been atrocious without him. Pitiful to watch, if he’s the only guy who can get us to play let’s work around his shit mentality.

Also he has All the leverage. We gave him 350k, not the other way around. He is our problem, may as well get some value otherwise its 2 yrs of this shit

The contract fuck up is history, as you say we’re stuck with it but you don’t pick an 11 by selecting the highest paid players. You pick the players who give you the best possible team for the opposition you’re facing / allowing for the resting of players on occasions etc.

Marc, “And what proof is there that Ozil is training well?” Özil just have a lengthy interview where he stated that he trained well and due to the extra demand he even does extra fitness session with a personal instructor. Once that information coming directly from Özil is in the public place, of course the media will assume that he is training well. I am not looking at the fact as stated by either party. Completely agree problems start with the base of midfield, get that right and I’m good mugging ozil off.

Danny S

The problem with our creativity is firstly our defence is weak, so the players can’t play with full freedom. Secondly, our midfield often hinges on Xhaka who slows the game right down. Thirdly it’s a system that relies on fullbacks to create and we have shit fullbacks, not counting those who are injured. And last of all, there is no real plan or first team in mind. Ozil, will solve none of that. Defensively he will be another player the opposition don’t have to worry about and going forward they know they can easily bully him out the game. Our… Read more »

Pedro has a massive raging boner about emery and ozil situation when really therw is nothing to report.. laughable attempt by emery to attack the manager when there are more valid criticisms.

Marc

DUIFG

I think a midfield with Torreira and then two of Willock, Guendozi and Ceballos would give us both better protection and more free following football.

If I’m the opposition manager and I see Ozil on the team sheet I just tell a player to give him a “let him know you’re there” tackle and Ozil will fade out of the match almost completely. We’re then playing with 10 men and Xhaka at the moment.

DUIFG

Marc, agree on that mid.

Ye ozil is probably the most frustrating player to wear the shirt. My view is given current played personnel he improves our team.

The mid of guen and xacka is brutal. It’s never worked.

Danny S

I can’t see what emery can do with Ozil other than what he’s doing.

He sees Ozil train, he must see that he isn’t right in the head or making the right effort so he doesn’t play him.

It’s not something emery is doing for the public or for PR. He is simply telling a player, ‘if you don’t train like everyone else and take it seriously, you don’t get games’. Simple really.

Marc

Valentin

So there’s no proof that Ozil is actually doing anything in training at all. If sections of the media and certain fans who need strong medication want to accept this as “fact” then that’s their problem. Everyone else knows the truth – in fact if this helps Ozil get a move in Jan I don’t care what anyone else thinks and I welcome the bullshit. Ozil will be long forgotten by everyone bar Pierre in the not too distant future.

DUIFG

Anybody definitively know where Romford is at? I believe I’ve found him but want confirmation. This place became poorer the day he left

Marc

London

The problem with Pedro is when Emery does go – my current guess is next summer – he’s going to go all Arteta again. So we’re then going to have all this again on a different manager.

Graham62

Playing Ozil would be the eqivalent of going swimming off Amity Island just after Chief Brody and Matt Hooper have paddled back to shore, clinging to the remaining barrels, after killing the shark.

You know the shark is dead but there’s always that possibility that another one might by lurking.

That’s right, it’s a bit risky to go back in the water.

The problem is not Ozil its the coach. Its just like the coach is waiting for a mistake to happen and then decide not to play him(ozil) but Xhaka has made countless mistakes but must play when he is fit. Who is decieving who? Unai does not like ozil thats the simple truth. Yes we all know that what Arsenal lacks in defence is covered in attack and the key element to our attack is the creativity. Looking forward to this morning’s England game. But to come up with a score prediction is going to be impossible. For me it will litterally be down to how disciplined we are. We avoid committing mistakes and Farrell makes sure he doesn’t miss his kicks and we should be OK. We don’t, and I am afraid the Aussies have the upper hand. Unless the Aussies decide to make more mistakes than us of course.

As you probably know, at this stage of the tournament, in-game discipline is paramount if you want to win the game.
