I am so BORED.

Yep, I’m one of those children this week. Someone tap me out of international week. What a waste of fucking time. The fact a team as ‘ok’ as England hadn’t lost a qualifier in 10 years until last week tells you what a total nonsense having an ‘everyone can compete’ qualifier is.

Anyway, AMN, fresh from bitching about playing in the wrong position / taking a red card to end the experiment… is talking about how bloody marv Freddie Ljungberg is as a coach.

“There’s quite a few things [I have learnt] really,”

“He knows me as a winger, so attacking-wise he’s helped my game a lot. Defensively, I go to someone else to help me because they’re two different styles that I have to play.

“Him personally, he’s pulled me to the side a lot and has shown me different techniques and ways of beating players, ways of crossing the ball and shooting. It’s helping me and I’m happy to have him around because he’s such a big figure in the team.”

If this is the first piece of evidence in the deep state conspiracy to overthrow Emery, the comments Raul made about Freddie are the makings of case, with David Ornstein’s puff piece on the man being the smoking gun.

You don’t need me to punch the numbers into your pocket calculator… I am not going to be vaccinated. Simple as that my friends. #FreddieIn

The pinch of ‘hmmm’ you have to take with these stories: Does Freddie look so damn good against Emery because he can do the basics really well… you know, like speak the language? Mad piece of intel is he’s learning Spanish so he can talk to the Emery. How mad is that?

It’s also not difficult to see who has more sauce unless you’re a weirdo on the sauce spectrum. He’s literally a legend in the eyes of those kids. They’ll have grown up on his partnership with Bergkamp, the flash of red hair, and all the trophies.

I remain sceptical, but it’s hard to when you keep hearing kid after kid going out of their way to talk about how incredible he is.

If I were Emery, I’d get on the double sessions of Rosetta Stone, because outsourcing communications is a sure-fire way to lose authority… I just pray he never loses that ‘good ebening’ opener.

In other news, can everyone jump online and celebrate this elite piece of journalism penned by the mighty Rob Smyth?

He works for a paper that truly believes Twitter is a barometer for what’s really going on in culture, if we create enough noise around this story, maybe The Guardian will rally around a ‘Save OGS’ agenda.

That’s something I could live with. #SaveOGSHeDeservesRespectAndLongDeal.

Right, that’s me done. See you in the comments. Listen to my podcast. Sound is a bit off for the first 9mins, but then it gets better because I fix the mic problem (turned it on).

LOVE YOU xxx

Saka said this week that He cannot understand Emery & he goes to Freddie for coaching . I have seen Freddie coaching him during breaks of play at The Emirates . Emery doesn’t seem to mind Freddie doing that, so fair play to Unai for that Arsene would never have allowed that

Mr Serge

Omg you two are tossers
Pedro Freddie is a good coach does this make him s good manager ?
Would we hire a non experienced manager like that ?

Emiratesstroller

Pedro Maitland-Niles is neither good enough playing for Arsenal as a wing back or winger. Let’s be clear he is not a starting X1 standard player for the club and as I expressed many times this season he became a liability when he played in right wing back position and left us totally exposed at back. Chambers is not a first choice fullback but at least he is more reliable as understudy to Bellerin when he is unfit to play. Furthermore Arsenal are not short of understudy wingers at the club in Martinelli, Saka and Nelson who are better footballers… Read more »

Bielsa has really disappointed me. Nketiah, when he arrived at Leeds, was scoring for fun. He deserves a start in the Championship but he has stuck by his striker Bamford (who has struggled to score) because he says he wants someone more experienced in the league. If so, why did Leeds fight off other clubs like Bristol City for Nketiah? I’m sure our club would have made it clear he was being sent on loan for first team league experience. If he is being used as a Cup player, he should be brought back and sent on to a club… Read more »

I would give AMN a run out as a DM in cup games to provide support to Torreira but I would make it clear to him that he needs to step up or be prepared to move elsewhere. Given his age, it’s probably too soon to drop him completely yet but given his time with the first team he really needs to make a position his own.

Mr Serge

Go to agree with you Emirates Amn is a squad player at best and as a HG player he has to stay but his is the least talented of the 6 kids
Saka,Nelson, martinelli, guendouzi, nketiah and Wilock the 5 at the club should all start before him

Leeds need to give Eddie a run of games for sure bumford is not in his class

Emiratesstroller

Leedsgunner

AMN is not good enough to play in any position on the field least of all as DM.

Arsenal have on their books a number of promising young players coming through the system. Players like Willock, Nketiah, Saka, Nelson, Smith-Rowe
and Balogun.

One or two will make the grade and others will not. I am afraid AMN has had
his opportunity and failed. He falls into the same category as Iwobi and should
be offloaded.

Mr Serge

Emirates we can’t offload him he is one of our HG players we have to have 8 registered
Martinez
Chambers
Bellerin
Holding
AMN
Macey
ESR
Wilock
Are the 8

Again, I will go out on a limb and say that not only will United compete for top four this season, they will do so with Solskjaer at the wheel.

Yes, the whole world has written them off, and yes, the whole world has declared Solskjaer dead, but the whole world happens to be wrong on this point.

United were right to place faith in Solskjaer, and as long as they avoid serious injury issues in their starting XI going forward, they will compete for fourth by season end.

You heard it here first. 😉

Vegas gooner

I’d take Freddie over emery any day so long as he brings bould with him. We’re sorely lacking a defensive coach.

Luteo Guenreira

Shamford You are definitely on the sauce spectrum. Don’t worry, no one is going to take your credit if OGS pans out. You’re firmly the only one I’m aware of that is such a nuthugger for the United boss around here. Regardless, even if United do make top 4 this season it will likely be in spite of their manager, not because of him. Similar to Arsenal w/ Emery. With every top club aside from Liverpool shitting the bed so far, saying United will make top 4 isn’t nearly the risk you seem to think it is. It’s October. Pedro… Read more »

What amazes me is the number of people who suddenly are expert in Willock, Saka, Martinelli and AMN. If Freddie see something in AMN as a right winger, I would rather trust his judgement over keyboard warriors. Most have never seen AMN play right winger. AMN is a much better right winger most give him him credit for. He has pace, he can dribble and he can cross the ball and he has defensive awareness. He is 22 years old who has nearly never played in his favourite position at senior level. Yet despite being stuck at right back, he… Read more »

Vegas,

I am not sure that Freddie would need Steve Bould as a defensive coach.
Bould is a great individual player defender mentor, but all his youth team have been suspect at the back. On the other hand, Freddie’s team once he is able to instill his philosophy to his team they tend to be pretty solid defensively.
Last season, the U23 did not lose a league game for the last six months.

grooveydaddy

Saliba will count as home-grown, so he can take AMN’s spot if we wish to offload him.

Nelson

I also think that we should not rush to unload AMN. Unlike Xhaka, he is fast. With proper coaching, he can still improve.

Slade

Valentin says Emery is only puffing up his CV with the Europa and doesn’t care a bit about the league or what upper management expects of him….I believe Valentin because, well, he knows so much more than anyone else about the behind scenes of Arsenal and having earned his coaching badges is ready to take the helm of Arsenal with saucy Pedro in tow.

Atid

It’s a shame role don’t read the rules before making a statement. Mr Serge you do not have to have 8 home grown players. In fact you don’t have to have any. The rule is you can have 25 players over the age of 21 in your squad of which at least 8 must be homegrown. However, if a team wishes they can have a squad of just 17 non-homegrown players. At the moment Arsenal have just 6 homegrown players. Willock and Smith-Rowe are not yet old enough to be classed as homegrown. As for another comment about Saliba being… Read more »

Valentin AMN has been involved in the first team/squad over last three seasons and could have been selected to play wing in games during that period when we were short of players in that position. The reality is that there are better “prospects” at the club in that position. Also you should not forget that he played recently in RW position and his performance was average and he was subbed. My point is that when you introduce youngsters to first team squad they should be given a chance to prove themselves, but if they fail to perform to the required… Read more »

Northbanker

If Freddie needs a defensive coach then I would look to Martin Keown who had that one season in that role for us when we reached the Champions League Final in 2006 without conceding a goal along the way, inc beating Real Madrid away 1-0 along the way

Atif, “It’s a shame role don’t read the rules before making a statement.” Pot kettle…. In order to qualify as home grown a player has to be register for 3 years in an England club before the year of his 21st birthday. Despite sending him on loan Arsenal have registered Saliba in the premier League squad this season. So if they also register him for the next two seasons, when he will reach 21 years old he would have been registered 3 years in an England club. Hence automatically qualifying as a home grown player. So the idea that a… Read more »

There are two ways at looking at Ozil’s most recent announcement. You can either take it on face value in which case it is utter nonsense for Emery not to include Ozil in team selections. The idea that the player will be cold shouldered and more or less redundant at a cost of £350K pw for the duration of his current contract is lunacy. of his contract is lunacy. The fact that Freddie has so much input in the development of the young players is both great and worrisome. Great because his U21 teams have been great to watch and knew how to win both with beautiful football but also by grinding results. Worrisome because it looks like Emery can’t communicate properly with the younger players. Bamford,

In the game against Standard Liege in the Europa League, we did not play in 4-2-3-1, we played a strange tactic which meant that in attack we were playing in a 4-1-3-2 with two strikers: Martinelli and AMN. In defensive mode we then played in Christmas tree formation in a 4-3-2-1. With Nelson and AMN the two.
So very difficult to judge him as a right winger when he did not play a right winger for most of the game.

No such stat exists. The “total distance covered” stat tells one nothing about how quickly a player ran, how good he was in his pressing or defending, how helpful he was, how smart or sharp or aggressive his play was. It tells one only what distance a player covered, not HOW said player covered that distance. He might have covered that distance in smart, sharp, quick, aggressive terms; he might have covered that distance in a lax, sot, weak, passive, largely useless and unproductive manner. The latter is Ozil, 90% of the time.

Bojangles, Stats such as Distances run, number of defensive sprints, number of interceptions, number of aerial challenges made, % of duel won, number of shot blocked, number of tackles, % of successful tackles, number of fouls conceded, number of cards received, number of penalty conceded gives a pretty accurate description of what a player does on the defensive side of a game. When your CAM has better number in nearly every one of those stats than your designated CM, you either have a magnificent CAM or an static, non-tackling of a CM. There are numerous sites with those stats per… Read more »

Danialtos yesterday
” The Brits the same people who went around the world terrorising people, raping women, butchering and outright stealing in the name of building empires?…Even more ironical is that they now cry about people coming into their beloved country and doing just half of the evils they committed against the world.”

Then posted this today
“You should hold your horses.I never said I ‘despise and hate’ what the British are..am half English myself and I have lived in England for a while”

Another one twisting themselves in knots.

A certain scepticism is due when young players fawn over a coach. It’s like when kids rave about their favourite teachers. Sometimes the strictest and least popular teachers are the best ones, and the ones who the kids come to realize, in later years, were the ones they needed most. I’m not saying Emery is the latter kind. But just because kids rave about a teacher or coach, doesn’t mean they’re necessarily teaching them the kinds of skills that will really help them grow and serve them well in the long-term. Sometimes you need a disagreeable bastard to instill some… Read more »

Freddie can do no worse than Emery.
He has more feeling for the club and as a player he rarely played badly for us.
He and Edu were in the Invincibles and know how to counter attack at speed.
We are slow in our play now .

Özil has given an exclusive interview to David Ornstein via The Athletic… definitely worth a read… he gives a good account of himself!

Ozil : “I have a contract until the summer of 2021 and I will stay until then”

Pierre just cum all over the place.

The attempts to make the English/British nation seem worse than all others are utterly asinine. Every nation in history has taken the opportunity to expand its territories when it has had the opportunity. Slavery was a fact of life in almost every human civilization up to the modern era, including within most parts of the non-Western world. Anyone who is sincerely interested in tracing the development of modern liberal rights can’t help but see that they have a close relationship with the traditions of the Western world, including, most obviously, with Britain. An empirical question: how many modern functioning democracies… Read more »

I’m fully aware of the sites that show stats.

I believe Özil covered more distance than Leno but my belief ends there I’m afraid, along with the bs you gave to show where you got your stats from.

Valentin

Bojangles, “my belief ends there I’m afraid” Another one, whose belief is more important than fact. Xhaka has been exposed as the field player who has conceded the most penalties since 2016 for the entire EPL not just Arsenal. He is also the outfield player who has made the most mistakes that directly lead to goals conceded, again for the entire EPL not just Arsenal. His rate of yellow card is ridiculous. For example this season he is already under threat of being suspended (4 cards) despite having been involved in only 7 games. Basically 1 card every other game.… Read more »

“ Ozil vows to honour contract at Arsenal.Music to my ears ….let the battle begin.”

You don’t say Pierre 🙂

Shouldn’t there be a different word than “honour” to describe this situation though?
If someone just landed from Mars they might’ve thought Ozil was on 100k per week and decided to stay even though Barca just offered him five times that.

What he probably should’ve said was” I’m going to continue bending Arsenal over and sticking it balls deep while they bitch and moan until the last day of my deal.
Hahahahaha!”
