Time for a performance

by .

It is a HUGE game today. All the usual suspects won their games… bar City, they lost in an embarrassing 2-3 thriller away at Norwich.

What a result for Premier League new boys. They were well worth it as well. Very organised. They ran their guts out. They took their opps when they were presented to them and they carved out one really awesome counter-attacking goal.

I loved reading the post-match commentary from the fans. Raheem Sterling is now average. Pep has finally been found out. Manchester City are certainly losing the league to Liverpool.

You couldn’t make it up.

In a post fan tv world, the only place to exist on the radical edge of everything.

For me, what is clear is this… Arsenal are winning the bloody league. Yes, fellas, Unai is bringing it home.

First up, we have to destroy Watford by 11 goals to climb second (from 7th). Be realistic, probably 12 or 13 because the chances of us keeping a clean sheet are pretty slim.

We’re in a post-Lacazette world for the next month. There’s a lot of fans getting their panties in a twist over the lack of an Eddie in the squad. I think people need to remind them of the troubles the young forward was having when he was getting game time with us.

I assume the thinking from Emery will likely be to have Auba as the lead striker, and if he needs a rest, we’ll slip Pepe in there. He’s very comfortable through the middle and offers all the same attributes as Auba… bar the unreal finishing (in England at least).

Also worth remembering Lacazette is not good away from home. His record is very poor, I think Tammy Abrahams has more goals this season than Laca had in the entirety of last year. He’s also not hugely prolific. He scored a Premier League goal every 192 last season. I know he does a lot for the team, he landed 10 assists, which is impressive for a striker.

Anyway…

I think where we’re going to see the innovation is out wide. The manager has quite a few players to choose from. We have a lot explosive pace this year, and starting your career out wide is a lot less stressful than through the middle. I think Reiss has a huge chance to lay claim to a first team spot. I think Saka has always looked very promising when offered a chance to stretch his legs, he also looks very ready from a mentality perspective, no fear in his eyes. Then we have wildcards like Gabriel, who IS the new Anelka… and potentially ESR who has a lot of versatility.

In short, I think Eddie is going to learn more out on loan this season with Leeds, versus playing a bit part role when his confidence was looking pretty touch and go.

We know what we’re going to get tomorrow. Bullied.

Watford are playing under Quique again, he’ll bring a lot of energy, he’ll make them work like dogs and I’ve no doubt we’re going to be penned into tight areas all game long much in the same way we were against Burnley.

I’ll keep on saying it, but I truly hope Emery has learned his lesson with three holding midfielders. We’re not built for deep blocks and I don’t think players care for the pragmatism. We’ve been porous all season. We shipped lots of shots against Spurs and Liverpool. The same happened against fu*king Burnley of all clubs.

The manager needs to take advantage of the technical superiority we have over Watford, that’s not going to come from attack-minded players shutting up shop.

Let’s stretch them, let’s play the beautiful game, let’s bring some excitement to the pitch… we need a performance. Chelsea looks great yesterday, there’s no reason we can’t offer up the same type of decisive output.

Right, just a short one today. I’ll see you in the comments where I shall eviscerate your challenges with word bullets.

    The players are subpar
Can get results against the top sides but not the lower sides. Kind of humiliating when you actually analyse it Paulinho.

More shots conceded than any other team across Europe man

  2. Paulinho

The playing out stuff is bizarre though.

Although I’ve noticed Spurs doing against us and it being similarly laughable in terms of effectiveness.

    Why do it so slowly?

  3. TR7

    Marko

‘Yeah why was that? You think it was by design then. Xhaka you shy away from the ball and eh don’t dictate play’

Guen is an Emery player. Apparently Emery convinced Ceballos to join Arsenal. Xhaka is his favorite player. So tell me how can a manager who has three players who he rates/likes can’t get them to play the way he wants them to ? And if he can’t whose fault is this ? Heard a lot from Emery about playing with intensity, running and pressing except I don’t recall us playing that way in last 60 games barring a few exceptions here and there.

  4. Ishola70

Still an intrinsic problem with that midfield.

Still problems with other areas of the team as well.

A big wake up call to so many posters on here that were jumping the gun in their predictions for Arsenal this season.

You can’t be protagonists with slow, limited footballers in the middle of the pitch. Simple.

    Hahahaha
Er only one of them wasn’t brought in post wenger.

  6. Kamp

I hold my hands up as someone who criticised fans for calling for Emery’s head so early.

But I think th club ow need to thin about setting targets. If they are missed we need part ways. And they should be short term targets, so if it’s not working out that new man can have h January window.

We look nervous, confused, scared. 11 guys who have never met.

Pepe not passing to Auba in injury time tells me we’ve wasted 72m

  7. Champagne charlie

“Yeah, it is if you’re the dumbass that still too arrogant to admit Xhaka is shit (despite hilariously trying to distance yourself from him over the last couple of years).“

It’s black and white as you see it, I don’t and I couldn’t care less what you make of that.

Xhaka isn’t “shit” imo, he’s got his flaws and he’s got his strengths, which is what you can assess of near enough every player. I just don’t often partake in the exaggerated bullocks of making out someone is the sum of their inadequacies.

You blatantly do in an effort to score points, so you crack on with that. Only cunt on here waving his flaps when Ramsey signed for Juve as that was some sign from god or something. Soon zipped shut when he was a 400k crock like your fave whipping boy Ozil. Doesn’t go unnoticed before you start the usual mudslinging when challenged over something.

  8. Paulinho

“Can get results against the top sides but not the lower sides. Kind of humiliating when you actually analyse it Paulinho”

Seem to remember Klopp having a similar problem a couple of years ago, reaching a Euro final and struggling to beat lowly sides in the league. How do you analyse that?

  9. WengerEagle

    The kids are shite.

Have to hold my hands up on getting overexcited about Nelson’s Lyon match, he’s a timid little squad that always opts for a check-back to safety rather than driving towards goal.

As for Willock, well was spot on about him. Nothing player.

  10. Paulinho

Charlie – Yes, Xhaka is shit.

You can do you deflectionary ‘black and white’ routine all you like, but he is. Even the likes of Bob16 are saying it.

  11. S Asoa

Just kick Emery out tomorrow along with most of his sidekicks he brought along. Initially run the Club with Lundberg, Bould until a proper manager is located. Our team will be vastly improved. All the boys are not ” shit”. Just that Emery with his fixation ONLY TO PLAY FROM THE BACK , that Emery is an Arsehole

Arsenal have faced 96 shots this season, more than any other side in the PL, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 & the Bundesliga. Some effort that.

Again do people actually think this is by design? How come the players are continually getting a pass in favour of the manager? Today we had wank performances from the back 4 incredibly bad mistake from Luiz and mistakes from AMN. We had a totally non existent midfield despite having some midfielders who are supposed to be good in possession and we had players capable of attacking on the counter who didn’t counter. Explain to me how bad we were was it by design?

  13. Ishola70

The time for passengers in that Arsenal midfield is over.

The time for passengers in any other area of the team is over.

It’s over or it’s over for Unai Emery.

It’s like fucking night and day watching Arsenal in comparison to Man City and Liverpool in terms of off the ball input.

    Horrific.

“Pepe, Ceballos, Toreirra, Luiz, Sokratis, Guendouzi, Leno who are all players that we’ve brought in since Emery was appointed.”

    Pepe is finding his feet
Ceballos is on loan for a reason.
Toreirra hasn’t held down his position.
Luiz was and is error prone, no surprises their.
Sokratis should be a no nonsense hit the ball in row z merchant l..
    Guendouzi still a rookie.
    Leno is not world class

    Sunday September 15th 2019.

    Emery out!

It’s all very simple. My fence sitting has finally come to an end.

    Freddie to take the reins.

Sorry Pedro, just couldn’t help myself.

  16. Valentin

Last season Cech was blamed for continuing with that non-sense start from the back approach. Then we reverted to Wenger tactic of a long pass to the fullback or the midfield.

This season, Leno is reverting to the start from the back disastrous approach.
Surely he must realise that passing the ball to a teammates who has two opponents directly coming at him cutting passes is a recipe for disaster. He should be strong enough to decide that this is the wrong approach and go long.
So why is he so reluctant to just kick it long?
Is Emery conditioning his players to play his tactics and not adapt to what is going on the pitch? Or is he threatening to drop them if they don’t follow exactly his insttuctions?

  17. Rambo Ramsey

‘How is Emery to blame for two individual errors costing Arsenal the win.,’

Maybe because he’s setting up the team in a way that invites pressure and incites mistakes?

Like giving a loaded gun to a depressed person.

  18. Paulinho

“Simple question, do we look any better than we did under Wenger?”

Under Wenger in terms of being good to watch. Ramsey central, Welbeck when fit.

The final of the FA Cup in 2016 was a quality performance.

We were a joke mentally under Wenger at big grounds though. Old Trafford, Anfield, Stamford Bridge. Dreadful football with zero backbone.

Thought Willock and Nelson were powder puff. I’ve liked more of Martinelli in the short time I saw him, fearless attitude, no idea about ability.

Chambers getting no action is puzzling, we’re hardly bulletproof.

  20. Guns of SF

THis game hopefully will accelerate Holding and our fullbacks into the team.
SOkratis cost us the game. Luiz was being Luiz. SHit.

  21. Un na naai

    Paulinho 😂 😂
Klopp got champions league football in his first full season.
Only faltered when he inherited a mess in January 15

After that it was straight up the table into 4th with worse players than we had last season.
He took them4 places up the table in his first full season

Not sure if I’d mention klopp again

  22. Ishola70

It’s just as much a combination of Emery as well as the over-rating of the present squad and over-rating in this sense means all those predictions of running away with third place.

It’s still the old battle just for top four as has been the case for the last few several seasons.

How the fuck can you get a modern midfield with Granit Xhaka in there.

  23. TR7

Called out Nelson as a shit player very early and got some flak for it. Also got some shit for saying Pepe played like Gervinho MK II but again he continues to show a lack of composure. Calling out Emery was easy though, he was so obviously bang average.

Should we also blame this on the quality of our players? Emery is certainly not getting the best out of this team, that much is clear.

  25. Guns of Hackney

    Lolz

That guy has to be sacked right?

I mean, last season after City and Chelsea, Pierre and myself said he has to go because…and listed lots of reasons why.

After receiving a barrage of abuse that still continues 12 months later whenever one mentions emery’s ineptitude, here we are.

The man can’t run a football team. Period. Can’t pick a winner. Can’t pick a team to neutralise Watford.

He has to go. And now. Mans got no sauce.

  26. S Asoa

Emery from accounts is a Taskmaster. Given his bad English what he conveys is atrocious. Why can’t we see the fly on the tip of our nose ?

  27. G8

We have conceded too many goals from idiotic individual mistakes, that ultimately would be on the manager and his coaching!
We have the worst full backs in the history of the PL …. fact
with the jittery defence and weak midfield you got to ditch the playing from the back bollocks and find a different outlet..

selection and substitutions also have been abysmal ..
    Why taking off ceballos?
Willock and Nelson understandable subs but they were really out of their depth..Nelson in particular made us worse…
Really awful showing by arsenal against a very average team.
We don’t deserve even the point.

  28. Champagne charlie

Lol just knew it would still be the players fault again this season.

Come on, who is going to be first to say Watford have a better XI than us? Hit us with the Deja vu.

  29. Guns of SF

Xhaka needs out. Willock offered more movement. As did Nelson…
Nelson shot goes in, then we win…. oh well

Pepe needs to step it up – so far the hype is just that hype

He is being put on the right to cut in with his left and shoot. He had a lame shot and a lot of spinning around with nothing to offer.
At least Dani gives a shift on defense as well as some useless spinning too.

Torreira offers not a lot. He does take his one shot in the box per game it seems. Today it was a good shot… had some power.
He gets overrun too easily as well …

There has to be a way to break the press- our wing outlets were ok today… but there has to be other ways

  30. WengerEagle

    Paulinho

I know mate but two wrongs don’t make a right.

It’s pretty clear by now that Emery can’t take us to the next level so it’s just delaying the inevitable by persisting with him and shifting the blame onto the players.

Most of them are now players that have been brought in during his time there. And he hasn’t been able to get any more out of the previous group than old man Weng did.

  31. Paulinho

Don – That’s not your argument though is it? His achievements. You’re making a point about us beating top sides thus why aren’t we beating lower sides.

You brought it up, why was Klopp able to beat top sides and constantly draw at Anfield to lower league sides, in his first season? Even in his first season he beat Man City away from home, so according to your logic, they were good enough.

  32. Ishola70

Arsenal were 2-0 up in the first half and the commentator states during that half that Watford were over-running Arsenal in midfield.

Commentator also said there was hardly any closing down of players in comparison to other EPL matches this weekend.

    Put’s it all in perspective.

Not just not good enough. Far, far away from being good enough.

Receding Hairline obviously keeping a bit of distance before he no doubt comes in shortly bareback on a horse with the flag of Emery waving. Can almost smell the paella

  35. Guns of SF

Willock panicked in the box… cant blame the kid… probably never ever been in the position before… but if he shot and made it, he would be our Sunday Messi

  36. Samesong

Emery not getting anything out of Pepe because he is expected to run from our defence and score or assist. In wonder the guy performances are going down hill.

I didn’t see that explosive pace from Pepe today. Lack of support from midfield is a serious problem.

  37. Marko

So tell me how can a manager who has three players who he rates/likes can’t get them to play the way he wants them to ? And if he can’t whose fault is this ?

So you do think performances like today are by design and it’s on the manager. Are they playing the way he wants them to? I can’t imagine there’s a manager in world football who’s more than happy to set his team out to concede so many chances and who tells his team to have practically zero influence on the passing side of things.

The funny thing is this is somewhat all too familiar with Arsenal poor defensively and non existent midfield performances for years. I personally have my doubt that Marcelino who’s available could improve those things with certain individuals in there but I’d be willing to take that chance

  38. Paulinho

WE – A new manager will just be wasted with the amount of shite we have.

By the time we get the squad we need all the sauce will be rinsed out of him.

Still think Emery is the perfect man take us through this dead period.

  39. Valentin

Ceballos is already throwing his toys out of the pram for getting substituted. The honey moon with Emery did not last very long.
Would he make the same complimentary after the game? Hopefully Emery will not get the hump like he did last season with Lacazette under the same circumstances.

  40. TR7

If Klopp can make a 33 year old Milner run and chase the ball like a raving dog why can’t Emery get players aged below 25 years press hard ? Top managers know how to get performances from their players.

  41. Rambo Ramsey

“Arsenal have faced 96 shots this season, more than any other side in the PL, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 & the Bundesliga. Some effort that.”

Probably a quarter or more of those are a direct result of failing to pass out from the back properly.

Ofcourse thick cvnts like Marko will need a while to process who is responsible for this.

  42. Un na naai

    Paulinho

You’re confirming my point. He’s able to strategise well with the players he has against the better sides but not the shit one

So what does this point out? That the players are not the problem if they are being utilised to beat the superior sides we face.

You’re referencing klopp’s first half season when he inherited a side that was tenth and took them to fourth in his first full season and 4 places up the table

Emery is a million miles from emulating klopp in any way.

  43. Paulinho

Milner has always been a soldier. He does what he does what he’s done his whole career.

Character, not age, is the important thing.

  44. Chika

You could actually imagine 3 or 4 years from now Emery becoming the latest one-season-and-out revolving door manager at Watford.

  46. WengerEagle

‘Are they playing the way he wants them to? I can’t imagine there’s a manager in world football who’s more than happy to set his team out to concede so many chances and who tells his team to have practically zero influence on the passing side of things.’

    Oh Marko.

The goal that turned the game was prime Emeryball, when have you ever seen us playing out like that even in the AW days?

We invited pressure and were more than happy to camp out in front of our box and defend [well attempt to] our fragile lead, which to start with was a smash and grab double effort from Auba.

We looked clueless in how to manage the game and Emery looked clueless on the touchline himself once the game turned.

  47. Champagne charlie

    Weagle

That extension didn’t register with me at all, I’ve not seen anything that tickles the pickle about him. Just a better squad player than Elneny is what I take from the current situation.

Thing that irks me is what me and you chinwagged over in the summer, CM. We saw last season we struggled to get a foothold in games because Torreira was playing wank, Guendouzi was getting the run around, Xhaka was getting run around, Elneny was watching. We’ve needed substance in there for some time.

Personally would’ve binned Torreira after one season, made the profit and ran. He’s short, not quick, and that’s a big uphill battle right from the off no matter the attitude. If we had binned him to Milan and went Doucoure we’d look so much different imo.

  48. S Asoa

Watching the last 15 minutes Watford should have beaten us comprehensive if not for Leno.
Remember , the bottom team without their ace striker.
Good ebening… meaning Good morning, says it all.
Confused, complicated and persistent Arsehole Emery.

  49. PieAFC

He won’t drop anybody for Thursday against Frankfurt.

Same style, endless mistakes. Continuously playing the same way not adapting.

    He’s too stubborn.

We can’t close a game down to save our lives. Haven’t done for over a decade.

This performance feels like a loss.

  50. G8

To have decent full backs would definitely help the defence, midfield, and attack..the opposite also true..ask Pep Guadirola..

  51. Marko

If Klopp can make a 33 year old Milner run and chase the ball like a raving dog why can’t Emery get players aged below 25 years press hard ? Top managers know how to get performances from their players.

Not just that but why can’t they do what it is that they’re supposed to be good at. How come Xhaka for example doesn’t do what it is he’s good at which is passing and keeping possession. Is he shying away from responsibility and influence on the team by design?

  52. TheLegendaryDB10

    Pedro

Can’t wait for your cracking post. Roast UE.

That is all he deserves. Never was a fan of UE. Hoped he had some brains to learn and adapt. Instead he digs his heals in and insists in playing his way when this is clearly not working.

A sign of a good manager is when he is able to adapt his strategy to the team he is coaching.

Klopp did exactly that. Started with his heavy metal pressing in his first season and realised that his team were no longer able to through exhaustion die to the heavy schedule. Klopp adapted his system to have his players press when needed and to hold off when not necessary.

  53. Valentin

    Marko,

Where you not the one accusing me of not knowing him when I was advising that Pepe was great under very specific situation but that his overall play was not very good.
I just don’t think that he can come good under Emery because the way he setup his team is exactly the opposite of what Galthier used to do at Lille. Arsenal are slow in transition. Slow build-up, no diagonal interchanging runs to confuse the opposition and no passing of the ball into space rather than into feet.

  54. Pierre

We should refrain from criticising the players at this present time until we have a manager who knows how to set up a team properly.

Then and only then will we know which players are good enough or not .

  55. WengerEagle

    Paulinho

Does it not trouble you though that we have spent a decent chunk of change on players since Emery was brought in and it’s lads from the AW regime that are still bailing us out time and time again?

Auba and Laca dragged us themselves to that EL Final and prevented us from finishing outside the top 6. This season Auba’s goals have already won us two matches and got us 2 more points with today and Spurs.

  56. PieAFC

I’ve never seen a manager so nervous on the touch line.

How can you make changes to adapt to a game, not knowing who to bring on or what system to play.

Players look so confused. Cannot keep repeating that.

  57. Wasi

Dont know how long I can Emery the benefit of the doubt. If we dont have an identity, a gameplay after getting Rob, Bellerin and Tierney back then I dont think Emery should be even allowed to complete this season. Yesterday Norwich with 8 of their important players out won against Man city and with the players we have we should have easily won Today’s game. Why the diamond. We arent playing Liverpool.
Leno could/should have stopped the first goal but he did enough to make up for it.
Xhaka supposedly offers control and good passing. Didnt see any of that today. Then Emery chooses to sub out Ceballos who was our second best player today and wasnt even looking tired at all. What i did see is Xhaka’s slow legs missing a golden chance at the end and then watching the ball as it crawls out of play.Xhaka is the one who is going to get Emery the sack.
We cant play out from the back, We cant Press.
Honestly. Watford’s 1st game under their new Manager and their pressing was better than ours. Shambles. Shambles. Shambles. Theres no way Emery can start the same defensive pairing next week right. And no Xhaka please. Give Torreira a run in the DM position.

  58. TR7

    Marko

Yes, soak in the pressure and score on the counter – that is Emery football in a nut shell. Tiring for fans and players alike. Guen, Xhaka and Luiz looked like they were sleep walking today. No desire to win the ball or track back or run forward with the ball.

Paulinho, it is not just Milner though. Everyone toils hard in that Liverpool team.

  59. Paulinho

Don – He squeaked into the champions league in his second season with a non-remarkable points total, and yet still had the problem of dropping points against shit teams. Same the season after. Stalling points wise.

He inherited Alexander Arnold, Firmino, Henderson, Milner, Coutinho.

With the money from the Coutinho sale (120 million) he managed to snag VVD and Allison for huge money. Only then, with those two signings after three years, did they push on again.

Klopp is better than Emery by the way, no doubt, but only with time and money did they progress from inconsistent pretenders to genuine title challengers.

  60. Chika

    CC

“Receding Hairline obviously keeping a bit of distance before he no doubt comes in shortly bareback on a horse with the flag of Emery waving. Can almost smell the paella.”

Receding Brainline is one of Emery’s 50 captains so we should expect nothing else. 😂😂

  61. Marko

Oh Marko. The goal that turned the game was prime Emeryball, when have you ever seen us playing out like that even in the AW days?

Absolutely nothing wrong with us playing out from the back it’s as common as fuck these days everyone is doing it the problem is the individual and errors. Otamendi and Stones made similar errors against Norwich and do you think Pep is thinking of changing anything? Do you think he’ll change it in the next game? My guess is that he’s probably thinking of the ball playing CB he’s going to sign up in January and not hoofing it long.

  62. Ishola70

People can go on all day about a goal changing a match but even at 2-0 up Arsenal’s display was not nowhere near good enough.

Being outplayed in midfield by the worst team in the EPL FFS.

We all know that if Arsenal had hung on for the win today there would be posters telling us that it is only the result that matters.

Sorry that is wrong when the worst team in the EPL is outplaying you in the middle of the park.

A win today would have only papered over the huge cracks in the team just like so many other past victories where fans kid themselves that Arsenal are actually near to being a top team.

  63. Paulinho

WE – That’s what they are there for. Average overall but they score.

I would still prefer to walk into that Chelsea job than have lopsided strength up front and garbage in the rest of the squad.

Actual talented youngsters, and players like Kante.

Same with Klopp. He inherited athletes in midfield and mobile players that could run all day. He’s actually bought more of the same.

  64. Valentin

Unless there is a massive improvement in the next few games, I can’t see Emery getting his extension. Lose or draw in some more abject performance and he won’t last the full season.

If we are lucky, Freddie may be able to steady the ship. I don’t want us to turn to Mourinho out of desperation when half the season is gone with a six month contract.

  65. Guns of Hackney

    Wenger wouldn’t have lost that.

Emery is like Wenger gone mad…he’s just not a good manager.

Arsenal was too bigger job for him. Pepe is going down the Gervinho road. Mark my words. He can’t pick a defender that defends. Xhaka? Captain! No. No no no no no.

He’s got to go. Give FL the rest of the season and then go for at least 10 managers that are/could be better than The Emster.

  66. Marko

Yes, soak in the pressure and score on the counter – that is Emery football in a nut shell. Tiring for fans and players alike. Guen, Xhaka and Luiz looked like they were sleep walking today. No desire to win the ball or track back or run forward with the ball.

So it was by design. It’s weird how we’d concede so many chances and have such little influence in possession on purpose against the bottom side in the league. It’s not a game plan I would have gone with. Certainly sackable

  67. Samesong

Arsenal was too bigger job for him. Pepe is going down the Gervinho road. Mark my words. He can’t pick a defender that defends. Xhaka? Captain! No. No no no no no.

    Can’t disagree with this.

  68. WengerEagle

    Marko

Lol, yeah it’s common as fuck for Man City with their 250m backline and Barcelona with world class ball playing defenders.

We have Sokratis, AMN, Kola back there ffs, little different no?

  69. S Asoa

    Valentin
Forget about not getting an extension. With the type of stale porridge football on display, can’t have Emery here for next game
Whatever his failings, at least Wenger’s football was good to look at. And am an original Wenger Out person !

  70. Wasi

Liverpool are a different breed. The first criteria Klopp probably looks at when scouting some1 is his work rate. His midfield has 0 creativity but more than makes up for it with off the ball work. That allows their front 3 to work their magic.

    On another note.
Bukayo Saka and Martinelli should get chances now . Against Frankfurt Martinelli needs to start. Saka has to have 30 mins at least.
And if I see a narrow diamond. Then im done with this manager.Rather give a chance to Freddie for 1-2 months

  71. Valentin

Teams can play from the back if they have players who can handle that style. Even ManCity has discovered that without Aymeric Laporte that style of play leads to errors and goals conceded.
We have Luiz a ball player and Sokratis a wrestler, yet the player who restart the play is Sokratis. It is not hindsight when the errors are predicted. Clearly Watford anticipated a mistake and Arsenal dully obliged.

  72. TR7

My top choice to replace Emery is Naggelsman. But so average is Emery that I am okay with any new manager taking over. We dont dominate even the most ordinary teams, it’s scary.

  73. Paulinho

I hope Emery does get the sack.

We’re fucked anyway, at least if some enrique suave smooth talker comes with a philosophy it will be a good laugh watching us still struggling to put a decent spell of possession together.

  74. Wasi

We were rubbish today but calling out Pepe already is too harsh. He is no Gervinho. He is the league’s next Hazard. Mark my words.

  75. Ishola70

Nothing of true note is going to happen at this club when it makes decisions like making a player such as Xhaka captain.

    And that’s on Emery.

And that is not to say that Xhaka is the only problem but rather it’s just a huge example that Arsenal are nowhere near the top.

  76. Un na naai

Pep is thinking of changing anything? Do you think he’ll change it in the next game? My guess is that he’s probably thinking of the ball playing CB he’s going to sign up in January and not hoofing it long.

    Marko you plum
Pep is winning titles. I wouldn’t go comparing emery to him. Not now, not ever
    It won’t stand up

  77. Pierre

Why mess around with Freddie L as boss , get a manager in who knows how to build a team from nothing , who knows how to get the best out of young players , who tells his team to play with no fear and will have the team playing the Arsenal way ….#DF

  78. Marko

Paulinho I too am very okay with him getting the sack so that certain individuals around here can get that cold realisation that they do so deserve. Whether it’s Freddie struggling for 6-8 months or Marcelino I’d be okay with that.

  79. Guns of SF

Martinelli- got to put the kid in some games. His pace and directness would have helped some….
IF Pepe goes out with injury I can see him gaining minutes.

Also, this loss was directly related to Sokratis and Guen with his back turned.
What kind of shit was that? Was this even practiced at all?

Xhaka must sit out…. today he was placed into dangerous situations again as we lost the ball up high… the counters just are a nightmare with XHaka running back to defend.

If we persist with 4231 then we need to figure out a proper playmaker. is it Ozil or Dani?????

  80. PieAFC

    I mean come on.

LAMPARD. Gone Chelsea and already they loook like the team and the players know how they wish to play, they lack defensively of course. But with time.

How can emery not bring that to Arsenal yet!

  81. Ishola70

    Wasi
“He is the league’s next Hazard. Mark my words.”

lol just by numbers put up or how they actually play?

We still hope that Pepe turns out a good signing but stating Hazard seems a little off the radar.

  82. azed

Emery would get the praise/blame for every result this season.
Oh and Emery should stop playing players based on reputation.

As of today, Chambers should be the starting Center back. Luiz has conceded two penalties and should be on the bench until further notice.

  83. WengerEagle

    Paulinho

He has spent money though and we still look hopeless in CM and clueless at the back though. I know Tierney is still to play but nobody else we’ve signed has looked a proper player.

Only so long that you can lament what he inherited before you acknowledge that he’s not improving the side imo. We’re over a year and 3 transfer windows in now [Toreirra, Leno, Sokratis, Guendouzi, Pepe, Luiz, Ceballos, Tierney, Martinelli] and we’re getting pummeled at bottom of the table and pointless Watford for 90 mins.

  84. Champagne charlie

I’d be shocked if we sacked Emery, we’ll simply not extend and pretend all is good and the process is progressing.

If we sack him we’d have to fork out money.

I’d certainly be all for that if we’re fucking nowhere come November/December. Bring a new guy in, give him 6 months to bed in and learn who he wants out, arm him in the summer and away we go.

    Allegri where you at fam?

  85. WengerEagle

How many more players will we have to sign before it becomes evident then?

How many more windows and players in before you stop falling back on the ‘inherited this shite’ bollocks?

Fergie had John O’Shea, Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley all literally wanking all over our world class Cescball CM and they were literal mid-lower table players.

  86. Champagne charlie

Weagle kick your pal Marko, the cunt is stuck blaming players and acting like a manager has no influence. Broken record over there

  87. Marko

Allegri. I would actually be very up for Allegri. Sack Emery tomorrow bring in Allegri and see if he improves certain areas as is and if he plays a style of football people can get behind. It’s only fair

  88. James wood

And people where saying Emery’s communication was good.?
As Pedro said he couldn’t order a bacon sandwich.?

New manager and someone who speaks the Queens English at
    the very least.
How the fuck the players understand him is beyond me.

  89. azed

“I’d certainly be all for that if we’re fucking nowhere come November/December. Bring a new guy in, give him 6 months to bed in and learn who he wants out, arm him in the summer and away we go.”

    CC

I said it last year, Emery is not getting the sack unless something catastrophic happens like us been 15th.

Emery would get his two years and the extension would be determined by what he achieves this year.

Anyone shouting Emery Out right now is wasting their time and strength.

  90. TR7

    Marko

‘So it was by design. It’s weird how we’d concede so many chances and have such little influence in possession on purpose against the bottom side in the league. It’s not a game plan I would have gone with. Certainly sackable’

Safe to assume you are being your usual sarcastic self, prey tell is there anything that the manager can be blamed for ? I mean in football, it is always going to be 11 players playing who execute tactics set by the manager. The way you pin everything on to the players you almost make it sound like the manager is just a walking mannequin with no input or influence on how the game is being played out on the pitch. Let us get our dream first 11 then and then sign a manager may be or rather just do away with the manager post all together and focus on signing 11 new players ?

  91. Kamp

    ……………Auba Pepe
    …………….Ceballos
    Kola. Guen Torr. ANM
    ………..sok. Luiz. Mus
    ………………..Leno

If we cannot muster a midfield that can control the game we must play more at the back. Stop shipping goals like the East India Company and then let Auba win us some games.

Holding, Bellerin, tierney, laca all to come back into the first team.

  92. Marko

Oh Charles you speaking. Genuine question you know how you always vaguely talk about those things Xhaka does well any chance of saying what exactly those things are for future reference please. No big deal

  93. Leftsidesanch

I’ve said this a few times now. Take Sok and Luiz out of this team. Put in Chambers and Holding in as our cb pairing.

Nelson should be on bench and Martinelli should come on.

Xhaka needs to be away from this side and replaced and Tierney and Bellerin can’t come into this side quick enough.

  94. Paulinho

WE – So have United, and they’ve bought average so I still don’t expect anything different from them.

It’s about who we have actually bought. Torreira is the only one that could’ve potentially moved the needle in midfield, and he just seems to full of wind or something. Runs around like he’s got pleural effusion and can’t breath.

Cebellos, still too early to tell.

Throw in rotten apples still here like Xhaka and I’m still not expecting much.

Points wise, Emery has improved us, and Emery has always been an attacking coach, so I don’t know why people keep going about defence, especially with so many goals being individual errors by proven thick footballers.

  95. Redtruth

Guardiola spent a ginormous amount of money on a team who not long ago were Premier league Champions.
How much more does Emery need to spend on atezm who have been on the slide for over 10 years…

  96. Leftsidesanch

Emery is incapable of learning from his mistakes, and the side have poor game management. There were warning signs before Watford’s first goal and even at 2-2 they were still playing out from the back.

They should ignore that tactic, it doesn’t work and invites pressure. Our CBs aren’t composed in pressure as it is, and neither is Xhaka who is supposed to be shielding them.

  97. Un na naai

    Rt

Hahah. So what are you saying here? That he’s no better than emery because he’s not won the champions league with city?

Emery has never even reached a CL semi

  98. PieAFC

    Bellerin and Tierney?

Is emery going to get time until these guys come back.

I will guarantee the same problems with be there!

  99. Paulinho

Attacking coach doesn’t neccessarily mean dominating possession.

Emery is very aggressive off the ball and in terms of positioning, so we have players high up the pitch in advanced areas, which can come at a cost of fluency of transition in deeper areas, andtoo much ceding of possession for the purist. But his teams are usually dogged and are prepared for that, so they look to win it back and go again.

  100. Ishola70

    Redtruth
“The ball to Xhaka which he failed to control in the opposing penalty area sums up what a cunt he is.”

    Horrific captain.

And horrofic said in a New York accent just for that extra affect.

    Horrific.

  101. Chika

“Klopp is better than Emery by the way, no doubt, but only with time and money did they progress from inconsistent pretenders to genuine title challengers.”

How much did Emery progress with the millions at PSG? It’s pointless spending shitload with an incompetent coach at the helm.

  102. Ishola70

    Xhaka out. Emery out.

Kola out. Sok Papa out. Ozil out. AMN out.

Luiz out probably by the seasons end.

    And stop over-rating these youngsters.

  103. Champagne charlie

    Marko

I’m not going down a rabbit hole with you about Xhaka, be like talking about the wallpaper whilst yer Dads pissing all over the floor.

Worry about Emery before you pick your fave millionaire footballer to hate.

  104. Marko

Safe to assume you are being your usual sarcastic self, prey tell is there anything that the manager can be blamed for ?

Honestly wasn’t. Plenty of blame for the manager. Failure to stick with a set side always picking certain error prone useless individuals though he has an excuse somewhat given injuries to Bellerin, Holding and Tierney and the other options in midfield. He gets blame for not insisting on certain players being sold and replaced but again he has an excuse in that area cause he’s not responsible for the signings or whether or not someone actually wants to sign up Xhaka. His biggest failure seems to be that the players aren’t buying what he’s selling and that’s why I’m okay with him going in the summer and okay with him not being the long term guy. I’m counting down the days till Nagelsmann or Vieira.

The way you pin everything on to the players you almost make it sound like the manager is just a walking mannequin with no input or influence

I’m so glad you said this. My point that I’m trying to make after today and much like the Everton game is that irrespective of the manager or even if there’s a manager there or not the performances of the players picked have to be better and that’s it. I look at that team today and particularly the midfield and the players who were picked and I cannot understand how they conceded so much possession and had such little influence against such a poor team. You want to blame the manager and that’s okay I just can’t believe that such a performance is acceptable by such players irrespective of the manager or the tactics or instructions involved

  105. WengerEagle

    Paulinho

United aren’t being used as the yardstick though because everybody acknowledges that they’ve gone from bad to worse and are a joke club under Woodward’s influence.

Liverpool were the more apt and comparable one, yes they struggled initially but they’ve made clear linear progress since Klopp was brought in and have been nearly perfect with the players that they’ve brought in.

Even before Allison was brought in they reached the CL Final and were playing some really good stuff in the PL even if they were still inconsistent. It didn’t shock people including myself who picked them last August to win the PL [97 points, fair to say they played at a PL winning level] that they were going onto seriously bigger and better.

I heard you say before that a GK is the least influential player on the pitch and it’s true to some extent especially if you are a top side, as you’re generally the proactive force and on the front foot. Wasn’t as if Allison magically lifted them to the title push, cheapens Klopp’s effect that.

Look at the level that he has unfancied players before like Wijnaldum, Henderson, Milner, Origi, Matip playing at.

  106. Ishola70

    Leftsidesnatch

“and neither is Xhaka who is supposed to be shielding them.”

    Who told you that?

    He’s a DLP. DLP’s shield shit all.

Watford had the whole of Hertfordshire to run into in central midfield.
