Time for a performance

by .

It is a HUGE game today. All the usual suspects won their games… bar City, they lost in an embarrassing 2-3 thriller away at Norwich.

What a result for Premier League new boys. They were well worth it as well. Very organised. They ran their guts out. They took their opps when they were presented to them and they carved out one really awesome counter-attacking goal.

I loved reading the post-match commentary from the fans. Raheem Sterling is now average. Pep has finally been found out. Manchester City are certainly losing the league to Liverpool.

You couldn’t make it up.

In a post fan tv world, the only place to exist on the radical edge of everything.

For me, what is clear is this… Arsenal are winning the bloody league. Yes, fellas, Unai is bringing it home.

First up, we have to destroy Watford by 11 goals to climb second (from 7th). Be realistic, probably 12 or 13 because the chances of us keeping a clean sheet are pretty slim.

We’re in a post-Lacazette world for the next month. There’s a lot of fans getting their panties in a twist over the lack of an Eddie in the squad. I think people need to remind them of the troubles the young forward was having when he was getting game time with us.

I assume the thinking from Emery will likely be to have Auba as the lead striker, and if he needs a rest, we’ll slip Pepe in there. He’s very comfortable through the middle and offers all the same attributes as Auba… bar the unreal finishing (in England at least).

Also worth remembering Lacazette is not good away from home. His record is very poor, I think Tammy Abrahams has more goals this season than Laca had in the entirety of last year. He’s also not hugely prolific. He scored a Premier League goal every 192 last season. I know he does a lot for the team, he landed 10 assists, which is impressive for a striker.

Anyway…

I think where we’re going to see the innovation is out wide. The manager has quite a few players to choose from. We have a lot explosive pace this year, and starting your career out wide is a lot less stressful than through the middle. I think Reiss has a huge chance to lay claim to a first team spot. I think Saka has always looked very promising when offered a chance to stretch his legs, he also looks very ready from a mentality perspective, no fear in his eyes. Then we have wildcards like Gabriel, who IS the new Anelka… and potentially ESR who has a lot of versatility.

In short, I think Eddie is going to learn more out on loan this season with Leeds, versus playing a bit part role when his confidence was looking pretty touch and go.

We know what we’re going to get tomorrow. Bullied.

Watford are playing under Quique again, he’ll bring a lot of energy, he’ll make them work like dogs and I’ve no doubt we’re going to be penned into tight areas all game long much in the same way we were against Burnley.

I’ll keep on saying it, but I truly hope Emery has learned his lesson with three holding midfielders. We’re not built for deep blocks and I don’t think players care for the pragmatism. We’ve been porous all season. We shipped lots of shots against Spurs and Liverpool. The same happened against fu*king Burnley of all clubs.

The manager needs to take advantage of the technical superiority we have over Watford, that’s not going to come from attack-minded players shutting up shop.

Let’s stretch them, let’s play the beautiful game, let’s bring some excitement to the pitch… we need a performance. Chelsea looks great yesterday, there’s no reason we can’t offer up the same type of decisive output.

Right, just a short one today. I’ll see you in the comments where I shall eviscerate your challenges with word bullets.

Interesting that Le Grove and the Gooner forum ( slightly more reserved usually ) are singing with one voice. Emery out!
18 months of mangled communication which should now be much clearer . Poor substitutions , the worst captain since the last one. Now we are terrified of bottom feeders.
The dreadful end of campaign run appears to be continuining . Time for Freddy to show what he can do.

Valentin

Receding,

You behave exactly like I wrote.

Instead of accepting that Emery is out of his depth, you are just digging your heels and trying to justify your love of Emery and push the responsibilities of the fiasco to anybody but him.

But because you know that after such abject performance that won’t fly, you deflect by making your usual “what about that” snarky comment that is completely irrelevant to the original point made. Attacking people who disagree with you on their past comments, hoping that nobody would notice that Classic deflection tactic.

Mikki scores on his debut for roma. Emery is shit

Northbanker

I saw enough after Liverpool and stated then that the tactical naivety and poor decision making of Emery meant he needed ousting straight away before the season descended into farce.

Raul needs to act quickly on this – let’s not wait for the inevitable. Get rid of him today and appoint Freddie as caretaker.

Guns of Hackney

Agree with NB.

Give Freddy the season and get a new guy in ASAP.

Emery is done. These aren’t hard games at all and we should be winning them easily.

Sixth or seventh.

Arsenal aren’t paying extra to sack a coach mid-season, we’re too wet noodle for that.

That said, if we continue kicking the can when Allegri is literally chilling then we’re daft as it comes.

You are wasting your time arguing with emery’s fanboys. They can’t argue logically and they don’t read to learn. They will alter records just to prove their meaningless points. Emery is the clearest definition and face of cluelessness. I hated wenger and called for his head but at least we were still playing good football compared to what we have been playing under his eminence, emery.

vickingz

If anyone could remember what I said here during the transfer window when we were signing players, I said if only we could sign a new brain for emery. The guy is not cut out for arsenal. How can coaches with lesser quality materials be consistently schooling emery? Zhaka said they knew what was coming in the second half, they didn’t plan for it but they were scared, that’s all about Emery. How difficult was it to plan for something you knew was gonna happen? Watford could have flogged us yesterday, we hung on by the skin of our teeth.… Read more »

You know what scares me?

Tierney coming into the side and losing all his defensive prowess.

This is arsenal. A club where defenders come to and get worse.

The only defender that got better in recent history is Koscielny. And that’s saying a lot.

HillWood

The second half looked like a bunch of random punters in a pub decided to wander down the road to the park and have a bit of a kick about. Then a couple of local kid wandered past and were invited to join in
I honestly cannot remember a more shambolic or unprofessional display from the club

Tony

Up next Eintracht away.

A side better than Watford ………………..

Guns of Hackney

Also, I said it yesterday and so did a few others but Pepe needs to smarten up quick time. He is well on his way to being Gervinho mkII. The poor decision making. The zero end product. The head down and run disease. It’s all there. I don’t think Emery can change it so we need a new man to bring out the best of Pepe. People were sold on his Ligue form…BS. Laca looked like one of the best in the world in France. Not exactly the case here. Emery will never enhance a player but he definitely can… Read more »

This wasn’t a smash and grab and yes a two goal lead is a tricky one but let’s not kid ourself Watford were better not just deserving of the point they bossed the game and it was Arsenal that were very very lucky to ge5 anything out of the game. The defensive unit is quite simply not a unit it’s a bunch of individuals who clearly have been told what to do and are unable to adapt as situations arise. Luiz hadn’t given a penalty away in the PL since 2011 then he ships up at Arsenal and bang two… Read more »

Too hot… for a fucking SPANIARD

just lol

I don’t have too many concerns about Pepe because he’s extremely talented. Gervinho was not even a little bit in comparison But Pepe is playing poorly and looks low on confidence. He’s very quiet on the pitch and doesn’t communicate with his team mates. Language surely plays a part but doesn’t Auba speak French? He needs to communicate with auba more and use French for now if necessary. It’s better than silence But the manager needs to put his arm around him and help him adapt because he obviously hasn’t hit the ground running. He looks like the new kid… Read more »

Guns laca isn’t a world class goal scorer but he’s a quality player and one of the two reasons we didn’t come mid table last season.

Without his work rate, pressing, winning the ball back upfield, assists, goals and ability to work things out in dead end situations, we’d not have even qualified for the Europa league last season.

China1

Just think how dumb that too hot comment is. That’s unreal ridiculousness

That would be like David Beckham is in Madrid and it’s unusually mild. 10 degrees with drizzle and the English manager takes him off saying ‘it’s a bit miserable for him today’

Whaaaaaaaaat

Valentin

China1,

I don’t think that Pepe problems have anything to do with him being low in confidence and lack of communication with his teammates. In my opinion Emery setup just does not suit him. He is very good in quick transitions, but Arsenal does not do quick counter-attacks. The slow ponderous build from the back approach that Emery is focusing on is just the antithesis of the football that Lille used to play.

Tony

Pepe looks lost and uncomfortable as well as not being up to PL speed to add to China’s observations.

Didn’t Henry go around 9 games before bagging his first?

Guns of Hackney

Pepe is not an Henry situation.

Pepe strikes me as a fragile kind of guy. If he doesn’t produce anything fast, he’ll crack.

Tony

You’re right GOH Henry played left wing and Pepe is on the right wing.

Not similar at all.

Gentlebris

It was a hot day yesterday but since Watford players had ice under their skin the hot day only affected Emery’s Arsenal.

Auba, Laca and Pépé will win us some. So generally you can’t expect any calamity just first class mediocrity. And if Raul and Edu would ride with mediocrity and wait for calamity before they fire this Spanish plumber, then not much has changed at Arsenal.

Gentlebris

Pépé is a fine player but I think he’s getting scared. Players like that live off numbers. You will see the Pépé we bought after grabbing a brace somewhere.
No problem at all, me guy will come good.

Spanishdave

Looking at our back fourits a wonder we even manage a point.
We must have the weakest defence in the league, it’s only Auba scoring that helps us out.
Bellerin is not great and it shows you how desperate we are looking forward to him returning.
Emery is out of his depth and cannot cope with the expectations of being an Arsenal manager.
He a mid table manager where a good cup run is the only goal.
He’s had 60 games and the season is starting how it finished in the last one.
We are becoming a laughing stock again.

Tony

New post

Emiratesstroller

Anyone playing in front of Maitland-Niles is going to struggle in the current team. That applies sadly to our right centre backs as well. It is no accident that both Mustafi and Sokratis have struggled. Neither is a great CB, but playing alongside AMN means that you are having to do the job of two defenders on the right side of our defence. Emery has failed to appreciate that problem since Bellerin got injured. Pepe has not played particularly well since he joined us, but I would not give up on him as quickly as some do. What we are… Read more »

Let me say first up, I don’t give a shit if Emery goes tomorrow or the end of season. Have to say that otherwise the small group of posters here who may provide the answer to the missing link if they subjected themselves to scientific testing will brand me an Emery apologist or some other unimaginative phrase with cunt tacked on the end. But this is not a post about the coach. In all my years of watching Arsenal in particular and football in general in 4 continents I have never seen a more insipid, unergetic or unprofessional display as… Read more »
