Arsenal’s gamble

by .

A quick post today because I am writing this yesterday and I am tired from having to do back to back meetings for more than 13 minutes today.

Things that are interesting today.

Alexis Sanchez plods out of United to Inter Milan on a loan deal for the season, with no view to a permanent deal.

Makes you laugh. Money aside, he escaped one shit tip and landed in another… but in Manchester. The most important thing he did at United was start the movement for BIG twitter announcement videos. I often ask myself, if Sanchez didn’t do that, would Kos have done what he did for his new club? I am often very bored when I ponder this thought.

Eddie scored again… against Stoke, but he couldn’t prevent a loss. Still, three goals is quite the haul. This is HUGELY valuable for him. The lad needs 20 goals. That’ll set him on the path to being taken very seriously next summer. GOOD FOR YOU EDDIE, WE LOVE YOU.

We’re getting a SECOND transfer deadline day to look forward to. Spurs will be panicking Aurier, Vertonghen, Eriksen or Toby will leave. We’ll be cracking open the Pringles and Peroni PRAYING that Mustafi and Elneny fetch at least £30m. I won’t be happy if Nacho moves on, but god damn, if the old goat gets a 3 year deal, I’ll shed a little tear for myself, and maybe misery eat that Vienetta I have in the freezer. God bless you Nacho. I have a fun story to tell you if he goes because I’ve met him and I am not his best friend, but I’d say I’m his best passing acquaintance. That make sense?

Bolton FC. Going under. Sad face.

Jokes aside, it really is miserable that all those football fans don’t have a place to go to watch football. I don’t quite know how I’d deal with that sort of loss. It’d be a death that’d ruin the sport for you, forever. You can’t suddenly start supporting another team. You’d forever watch football as a passionless neutral. You’d have to start telling people at parties you mostly supported England.

… worse. You’d have to get a Harlequins season ticket and tell people how they have a really nice craft beer you can drink in the stands.

‘Billy, to be honest, I just think rugby fans are better natured’

You’d end up buying a gilet, then you’d start to see the practicalities of a coffee flask (because you can finally take one in the ground because you’d stop seeing it as a missile), then it’d all be over when you start packing sandwiches for the game.

My god. Football needs to start taking these abysmal owners more seriously.

Anyway…

I did a damn fine podcast. There’s some interesting gossip for you to digest about how Arsenal funded this summer… I put it in the middle so you’d listen intently to the content. I need you to like my work. My personality is so wrapped up in grown men giving me attention on the internet it’s embarrassing. I defo would have been a Babestation girl in another life.

N5, no offence to my wife, if I had a spare tkt for the NLD she would be a fair way down the list. She’s not bothered, she wants Arsenal to do well but that’s because she knows how it can affect my state of mind.

Funnily enough I just remembered the first game Arsenal played after we’d got together, December 1999. We took the lead with a Bergkamp goal and then lost 2-1 and I realised that I wasn’t feeling as bad as I would have expected, love eh!

You’re weirdly fixated with policing some folk on here I’m not policing you by all means be blissfully ignorant to you being a dick to someone I’m merely pointing out that you’re a hypocrite. Stick to football, a subject you rarely even bother with amongst your various arguments and snide remarks. Again are you serious. More often than not your comments are arguments and snide remarks towards Receding now that Bamford was chased off. You’re incredible. I don’t see any good to criticize or defend what Emery did for that Pool game. It is over. If Emery keeps Laca again on the bench until 80th minutes, then we’ll know more about what Emery is made of.

Up4G.

Hear hear! no Xhaka, that lumbering Ox will be targeted and turned inside out by the Spuds press. Agree with Chambers at CB and Luiz in midfield or even vice versa. Just no immovable Granit

Marko

Lopez said that he has four firm offers. He did not.
He only had two written offers from Napoli and Arsenal.
The rest is just fluff.

Just stop will ya. You’ll have a hard time convincing people that you knew more about what was going on with regards to Pepe and Lille this past summer and the offers made than the actual bloody president of the club. Unbelievable arrogance

Re Özil,

My sources inside the club tell me that he won’t be playing against Spurs.

Apparently the gang targeting him have let it be known that he’ll be offed if they feel that he hasn’t press effectively against the Totts and he’s not sure that he can keep them happy.

Marko Banford was chased off was he? Or was he a complete spastic towards Pedro and despite multiple warnings went beyond the line with regards to the author of the damn blog who then took action against him? A toss up I know. “My guess is that you give it the Billy big balls on an anonymous blog because you’re either tiny in real life, have a small penis or isn’t well liked in general” This is know in the trade as projecting. “but I take solace in the fact that the only people I don’t get along with on… Read more »

Yeah Klopp is top notch but he isn’t 5 times better than even Big Sam. Same goes for Pep. Wonder why Pep spends so much money than any other coach in living memory if he were that much better than the next rang of coaches.

I mean yeah pretty much. It was a favourite pastime of yours to go after him and everything he said and now you’ve moved on to others (fair play). I have beenbreading comments here as an Arsenal fan for close to 5 years. I am passionate about the club and you can imagine how I’ve suffered humiliation from opposing fans for nearly decade now for our slow and painful progression into mid able club. However, I am excited at how the last TW panned out. Everyday, I’d check with a sinking heart of if we were making any headway but alas none until the final weeks that got us all exhilarated. I’d have hoped that that will bring a lot of positivity to virtually all of us Gooners, but… Read more »

Living firmly in that ‘logic and reality’ you claim obviously. Banford isn’t here because of his attitude towards Pedro, but of course you’d sooner chalk it up to something else as a smear tactic. I’ve banned him, some logic that.

Weird that I get on with numerous posters on here and there are but a small handful that get anything but my full respect.

I don’t treat everyone the same, I treat people in kind. So next time you want to parade your GCSE in psychology, consider the influence of others on my response to them. Start with yourself.

Marko

I’ve banned him, some logic that.

I didn’t say you banned him I said you chased him off. Lad hasn’t come back has he.

So next time you want to parade your GCSE in psychology, consider the influence of others on my response to them.

Cool. So no problem with how you interact with others it’s always them and you respond in kind. Got it

Marko

Funny how we were hearing about how good a preseason Ozil had and about how maybe we might see a different Ozil this season. Three games in zero appearences and already out with “illness”. Different

Champagne charlie

“I didn’t say you banned him I said you chased him off. Lad hasn’t come back has he”

Because he’s banned, what part of that escapes you? He’s not sin binned, he’s banned.

He didn’t chuck it in one day because he got pasted by me, he got his marching orders after completely disrespecting Pedro and the platform he provides.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed how Arsenal‘s setup “surprised” Liverpool, but noted how half-time words from Jurgen Klopp helped Liverpool to a 3-1 win. The manager spoke in the buildup to the game of the benefits of a full week of training, allowing the Reds to spend three days at Melwood working on tactics. Liverpool took the fight to Arsenal from the first whistle on Saturday evening, but it took time for them to break down a very deep, rigid defensive line. Their opener came from a set-piece as Joel Matip headed in Alexander-Arnold’s corner, with that delivery one of 24… Read more »

You’re omniscient, it’s quite something.

Strangely enough… I think whether we play Xhaka or not might be dependent on whether we sell Monreal or not. If Monreal leaves as expected then I think we might see back 3.. Auba,Laca, Pep Kola,Torr,Ceballos,Amn Luiz,Papa,Chambers. Not crazy about changing formations again….ANd I hate 3 at the back in general just don’t like the structure and its inherent weaknesses but really don’t trust Kola to defend well. I think we shouldn’t be so reactive. Spurs are not that great really and we’re at home. Receding/China1
If we are to play Kolasinac, then it’s has to be three at the back with two wing backs.
That’s the ONLY formation that suits Kola.

N5

“Get it together N5, Poch is top 3 manager in the world.. that’s what you meant”

Correct. He did great at Southampton and found his level with Spurs. He’s still not won anything and likely won’t, but other than that, he’s really really really really really really really good!

“Pedro has a strict pro Poch appreciation policy these days.”

Thanks for the heads up Words, I’ll sort it out.

I’m going a bit overboard with it, because he has turned Tottenham into quite a different machine! I just don’t believe he will win anything with Tottenham. If he was trusted to manage a better team he very well may win something I just don’t think he’s likely to do that in the UK.

However, I love him loads Pedro…….please don’t bin me!

Yep pretty much agree.. so if you look at it.. with Kola in back 4

Auba, Laca, Pepe
Willock, Torr, Ceballos
Kola, Luiz, Papa, AMN

Think he should still drop Xhaka so you have Willock helping Kola defend his flank but.. Emery does love him some Xhaka. Still not sure we will see the 3 everyone wants to see up top together either. But like I said it will be interesting.

That’s the thing hopefully with Bellerin and Tierney soon to be fit Emery can actually select the team he wants. Last season he had no full backs or wingers, this season he’s had no full backs from the off but by the end of September whilst we can still have a quality discussion about certain players the players available for selection mean all options are on the table. XI for Sunday

Leno
AMN Sokratis Luiz Monreal
Torreira Xhaka(C)
Pépé Özil Aubameyang
Lacazette

If Lacazette still has a sore ankle, then Mkhitaryan on the left and Aubameyang at #9. Give Ceballos the day off. Nelson and Willock can be impact subs. I woul start Guendouzi instead of Torreira, but I feel Emery will opt for little Lucas.

Ah back from work now I can relax. Poch has barely done much more than what Harry did for them. Except fluke a route to the champions league final and get a lucky runners up.
Six years and not even a league cup to show for it.

Emery’s preferred formation is 4-2-3-1 when attacking and 4-4-2 when defending.

Also Emery doesn’t play with a traditional 10, he prefers two 8’s and a 6.

People forget that the way we beat Chelsea at home last season and drew with Liverpool was staying compact in the centre while conceding the flanks knowing that we would deal with everything that comes into the box.

Emery’s biggest failure against Liverpool was not reacting when we were two goals downs.

Dream10

N5

Just rotation. Willock was thrown in the deep end against Liverpool playing a taxing role on the side of the diamond. Expecting Nelson to be left out on Sunday. Hope they don’t have to make an impact and can come with 20 minutes left and we’re up 3-0.

Agreed.

I think he needs to get in the game early and get at Rose and Sanchez in the same way he did against Robertson and Van Dijk who are vastly better players.

Dream10

Aurier unlikely to be in squad for Spurs as they are open to selling him. So it’s Moussa Sissoko or Eric Dier at RB. Hope Emery goes for it. Ndombele out as well. They have injuries and transfers hovering over them. One journalist who spoke to a Poch assistant said that they can’t wait for September 2nd and the window shuts. Think we can do it and get three points.

MidwestGun

I hope Monreal stays one last match and goes out in a blaze of glory. Would be a good ending to a mostly very good Arsenal career. Also would put my mind at ease somewhat. Then we have 2 week international break to get players fit. win/win,

Pierre

It’s such a simple line up to pick v Tottenham..all he has to do is match their 4-2-3-1 system. Don’t try and be clever , play lacazette up top, pepe and Aubamayang out wide and ceballos / ozil behind . Have 2 holding / disciplined midfielders and a flat back 4. His big decision is who to play the in the midfield 2 , it wouldn’t surprise me if he opted for xhaka and torreira though that wouldn’t be my personal choice. After two years of Emery, we would have a better squad, lower wage bill and part of our summer money would not be used to pay off the manager and his crew.

Up 4 grabs now

Cesc,

I think we have to just go for it, their there for the taking.
We’re at home, emery gets a lot of people off his back if he wins it, and if it’s a big score that buys him a lot of credit with fans.

With Tierney bellerin and holding looking close his options are expanding all the time.

N5

Grabs that’s how I see it with Poch although the football is more attractive!!

N5

So is Vertonghen definitely not being selected against us then?

Sorry I keep bringing it up but I’m not sure what’s happening there really and all media outlets have a different version of events.

MidwestGun

I pretty much expect Vertonghen to start against us.. would be surprised if he didn’t despite all the media stuff.

Cesc Appeal

Up 4

We have to start fast as we did last year, if we can get an early goal and really go at them with the pressing then I think it’s ours.

I’m more confident about this fixture than I was last year. Their buys have been interesting, reinforcing an area I already felt they were pretty strong in..

I would actually think there are Spurs fans not looking forward to the idea of players like Aubameyang, Lacazette, Dani Ceballos, Pepe etc going at them.

Going into the international break with a great result would be a massive positive.

Freddie Ljungberg

Emery on ALP today:

on playing Pepe, Auba and Laca together…

“Yes, but be calm. My decision in each moment is thinking about how we are. For example with Lacazette he had a problem with his ankle This week is the best week of the last three weeks. He’s getting better and feeling better with his ankle, it’s very positive. With Pepe, he came here later than the others but he is getting and feeling better in each match. ”

But yeah, he should have started Lacazette against Liverpool even though he wasn’t match fit, scaredy cat.

N5

That’s my thoughts too mid, if poch drops him out and they get stuffed he’ll be served up on Monday!!

Freddie Ljungberg

CA

Think a lot depends on if Torreira is ready to start, he was immense against them last season and we really need him in these high intensity games. Xhaka on the bench looking after everyones house keys please.

Up 4 grabs now

N5,
I don’t even think their football is that great.
Yes slightly better than ours. But he’s been there six years and there no closer to a trophy the football isn’t that great. They are where we were around 2007-08 but inferior football.

Cesc Appeal

If Lacazette starts he has to deliver, even if its not in goals, just all round play and energy. He has Dani Ceballos behind him and great options either side to play off in Aubameyang and Pepe.

I feel sometimes he has a habit of looking great off the bench but fading into obscurity on the pitch if he starts. He has to be our Firmino essentially and get that forward line ticking. He’s got it in him.

MidwestGun

N5-
Same reason I think Eriksen will start as well.. could be wrong of course but think they will try to play their best players despite all the stuff about transfers and whatever internal stuff they got going on.

Cesc Appeal

FL

He looked primed when he came on against Liverpool, though obviously they had steppe doff the gas.

The start is so important, we cannot let them feel as if they could ever get a foothold in the game. Let them know from the off we don’t just want to win, we want to embarrass them and we’re going to fight them for every ball every second of the game.

Up 4 grabs now

Different game from last week we’re at home. It’s a NLD, expect to see expansive football a lot of possession. probably the most confident about a win against that mob in years.
