Arsenal’s gamble

by .

A quick post today because I am writing this yesterday and I am tired from having to do back to back meetings for more than 13 minutes today.

Things that are interesting today.

Alexis Sanchez plods out of United to Inter Milan on a loan deal for the season, with no view to a permanent deal.

Makes you laugh. Money aside, he escaped one shit tip and landed in another… but in Manchester. The most important thing he did at United was start the movement for BIG twitter announcement videos. I often ask myself, if Sanchez didn’t do that, would Kos have done what he did for his new club? I am often very bored when I ponder this thought.

Eddie scored again… against Stoke, but he couldn’t prevent a loss. Still, three goals is quite the haul. This is HUGELY valuable for him. The lad needs 20 goals. That’ll set him on the path to being taken very seriously next summer. GOOD FOR YOU EDDIE, WE LOVE YOU.

We’re getting a SECOND transfer deadline day to look forward to. Spurs will be panicking Aurier, Vertonghen, Eriksen or Toby will leave. We’ll be cracking open the Pringles and Peroni PRAYING that Mustafi and Elneny fetch at least £30m. I won’t be happy if Nacho moves on, but god damn, if the old goat gets a 3 year deal, I’ll shed a little tear for myself, and maybe misery eat that Vienetta I have in the freezer. God bless you Nacho. I have a fun story to tell you if he goes because I’ve met him and I am not his best friend, but I’d say I’m his best passing acquaintance. That make sense?

Bolton FC. Going under. Sad face.

Jokes aside, it really is miserable that all those football fans don’t have a place to go to watch football. I don’t quite know how I’d deal with that sort of loss. It’d be a death that’d ruin the sport for you, forever. You can’t suddenly start supporting another team. You’d forever watch football as a passionless neutral. You’d have to start telling people at parties you mostly supported England.

… worse. You’d have to get a Harlequins season ticket and tell people how they have a really nice craft beer you can drink in the stands.

‘Billy, to be honest, I just think rugby fans are better natured’

You’d end up buying a gilet, then you’d start to see the practicalities of a coffee flask (because you can finally take one in the ground because you’d stop seeing it as a missile), then it’d all be over when you start packing sandwiches for the game.

My god. Football needs to start taking these abysmal owners more seriously.

Anyway…

I did a damn fine podcast. There’s some interesting gossip for you to digest about how Arsenal funded this summer… I put it in the middle so you’d listen intently to the content. I need you to like my work. My personality is so wrapped up in grown men giving me attention on the internet it’s embarrassing. I defo would have been a Babestation girl in another life.

I’ll be at NLD, unfortunately as it’s my wedding anniversary, beers after the game limited! Can’t wait!

N5

The NLD is in the bag, 3 points tucked away and preparing for Watford which, for me, will be a tougher game than Sunday.

N5

Bob N16 are you treating your wife to a seat? 😀 congratulations mate.

Un na naai

Well Mark with a C has a season ticket in case anyone hadn’t heard so he will be there

I hope you’re right Bojangles. It’s always unpredictable though. Even when the Spuds were shit they still pulled a good 90 minutes out against us. I love beating those shitbags though, so please don’t let us down Emery.

Words on a Blog

If we step aside for a moment from the long-rumbling debate about Emery’s tactics against Liverpool and ask the more important question: what will it take to be able to successfully challenge Man City and Liverpool in the next two seasons or so? The two teams are both way ahead of the rest of the pack. Despite very different styles, the two teams have one key thing in common: a highly effective and organised press which forces/harasses teams into giving the gall away in dangerous areas. This they can maintain throughout the season given the depth of their squads. When… Read more »

“25 shots is awful! Does anyone know how many shots we had?“

We had 9 mate.

Though I pointed out after the game that Southampton and Norwich managed 12 and 14, conceding 15 shots to Liverpool a piece. We let 10 more shots on goal than them which is a major concern.

There’s no inferiority complex this weekend, we should have a positive performance and it will be disappointing if we don’t take all 3 points imo.

Freddie Ljungberg

N5 Sure, we still have largely the same defensive issues as last season. Still no fullbacks, but at least that will change soon, and we had to settle for a stop gap CB instead of a long term one we wanted. This will be addressed next season with Saliba and maybe one more coming in. Holding is back after the international break. Didn’t help that Torreira was not match fit either, Xhaka is just too slow for a game like that. If we’d have gone there and got hammered with 6 goals the same posters now screaming for expansive football… Read more »

Tony That sounds like a bit of a game for your builders there Tony, playing chicken with the weather. Here’s hoping they get it right and you’re all sorted on schedule. That entertainment suite you’re putting together sounds like something else, must feel like you’re right next to the pornstars… On the NLD: I’ll be bitterly disappointed if we see anything except an imposing performance frankly, we have the players to roast them and at home there’s no excuse to focus heavily on what they’re all about. Xhaka was not necessarily match fit either. That is my singular annoyance with the game, the moment Klopp said he expects Xhaka should stay should have been the moment Xhaka sat out the game

Receding Hairline

And seriously where is Ozil?

He looked lively in pre season, shouldn’t we check on Sunday if he could do a job?

We did not sit back at home against anyone last season….no one at all.

So i don’t get this fear we are going to sit back at Home to Spurs because we tried to implement a game plan away to Liverpool. Even against Liverpool last season at the Emirates we did not sit back.

“If we step aside for a moment from the long-rumbling debate about Emery’s tactics against Liverpool and ask the more important question: what will it take to be able to successfully challenge Man City and Liverpool in the next two seasons or so?“ You can’t step aside and ask that for me because they’re interlinked. lol Freddie, spot on.

Pierre

The thing is , they had 25 shots on goal and according to RH, fred, Marko etc , they took their foot of the gas for the last half hour , so I’d hate to think how many attempts they would have had for the final third of the game if they were trying.

The game plan for last Saturday couldn’t have been that bad, even Koop admits he was baffled …that was the plan, I have to imagine.
As many people have already said, Klopp did a number on ceballos. It just shows all managers seek to negate the strength of the opposition.

Anyways, onwards to Sunday’s NLD
The referee will be crucial because those diving cnuts are desperate at the moment. I can’t think of a club that has Olympic style divers in every position.

“So you think we have a comparable squad to Liverpool and it’s just the managers that make up the difference? Holy shit, smh.“

No I think Klopp is about 5x better than Emery so he’d get us playing like animals whilst Emery would have Liverpool playing nowhere near the level they do right now.

Really quite simple given the subject, and example, was based on managers.

Receding,

At least you are now acknowledging that Arsenal played a diamond formation and that Ceballos was supposed to be stop Fabinho.

You said that you watched the game twice, yet you were the only one arguing that Arsenal played against Liverpool with two lines of 4 in a flat 4-4-2. Maybe a third viewing to see what the rest of the world immediately spotted on first viewing.

Jamie

Un –

No funny business, just play our strongest [available] starting 11. That has to include Auba, Laca, and Pepe as our front 3.

I hope we go with a 4-3-3 and attack relentlessly.

—————–Leno
AMN — Luiz —-Papa—–Kola

Not much height in that lineup, so it’s all about the press, quick transitions, and our strikers taking their chances.

So you’re massively overestimating the impact of a manager then, no surprise there. If Klopp was as magical as you think why did he have to buy so many players and spend 150m or so on a goalkeeper and CB when he could have just got Mustafi and Cech for 30m and sprinkled some sauce on them?

Same applies to Pep, why not just coach the players they have if that’s all that matters?

Unsurprisingly it’s the same people who are having trouble letting go of the Liverpool. They’ve got an incredible home record they’re European champions and they’ve scored 250 goals the last two seasons while we’re still a work in progress poor defensively with two possibly three of our best back 4 missing but sure let’s focus on the 25 attempts at goal 5 on target by all means. Afternoon Grovers,

I know this has been done to death already but fir me we should have played a 451 with Auba and Pepe forcing their full backs back with Monreal and AMN mopping up any threats out wide. I would have had Torreira sitting back as a sweeper in front of the back 4 with Willock and Celballos as a cam with Laca up top. I would have used more long balls up the wing and attacked on the counter. I think giving Liverpool the space we did was a mistake. Just my take on it.
