Arsenal’s gamble

by .

A quick post today because I am writing this yesterday and I am tired from having to do back to back meetings for more than 13 minutes today.

Things that are interesting today.

Alexis Sanchez plods out of United to Inter Milan on a loan deal for the season, with no view to a permanent deal.

Makes you laugh. Money aside, he escaped one shit tip and landed in another… but in Manchester. The most important thing he did at United was start the movement for BIG twitter announcement videos. I often ask myself, if Sanchez didn’t do that, would Kos have done what he did for his new club? I am often very bored when I ponder this thought.

Eddie scored again… against Stoke, but he couldn’t prevent a loss. Still, three goals is quite the haul. This is HUGELY valuable for him. The lad needs 20 goals. That’ll set him on the path to being taken very seriously next summer. GOOD FOR YOU EDDIE, WE LOVE YOU.

We’re getting a SECOND transfer deadline day to look forward to. Spurs will be panicking Aurier, Vertonghen, Eriksen or Toby will leave. We’ll be cracking open the Pringles and Peroni PRAYING that Mustafi and Elneny fetch at least £30m. I won’t be happy if Nacho moves on, but god damn, if the old goat gets a 3 year deal, I’ll shed a little tear for myself, and maybe misery eat that Vienetta I have in the freezer. God bless you Nacho. I have a fun story to tell you if he goes because I’ve met him and I am not his best friend, but I’d say I’m his best passing acquaintance. That make sense?

Bolton FC. Going under. Sad face.

Jokes aside, it really is miserable that all those football fans don’t have a place to go to watch football. I don’t quite know how I’d deal with that sort of loss. It’d be a death that’d ruin the sport for you, forever. You can’t suddenly start supporting another team. You’d forever watch football as a passionless neutral. You’d have to start telling people at parties you mostly supported England.

… worse. You’d have to get a Harlequins season ticket and tell people how they have a really nice craft beer you can drink in the stands.

‘Billy, to be honest, I just think rugby fans are better natured’

You’d end up buying a gilet, then you’d start to see the practicalities of a coffee flask (because you can finally take one in the ground because you’d stop seeing it as a missile), then it’d all be over when you start packing sandwiches for the game.

My god. Football needs to start taking these abysmal owners more seriously.

Anyway…

I did a damn fine podcast. There’s some interesting gossip for you to digest about how Arsenal funded this summer… I put it in the middle so you’d listen intently to the content. I need you to like my work. My personality is so wrapped up in grown men giving me attention on the internet it’s embarrassing. I defo would have been a Babestation girl in another life.

A third season in that Thursday piss pot cup competition. All we had to do was beat Brighton at home and it would’ve been Spurs in it instead of us.
Dark days indeed.

Marko

United with a paper thin squad having to travel to Serbia and Kazakhstan. You hate to see it. Big lolz to the Scottish clubs finishing bottom in their groups

Valentin

Monreal to leave us after the NLD.
There are mentions of a low fee paid in instalments but no indication of how much.

Marko

AZ Alkmaar are from Holland.

Marko

Ceballos with a Spain call up

China1

Lol I know betis aren’t a big club but paying pennies in installments is a bit embarrassing lol surely they can manage a couple of mil?

Supposedly it’s less than 1 mil!!!

raptora

Ceballos will be a star if he stays with us. Mark my words.

Marko

Neven Subotic raises doubts over under-fire PSG fitness coach Rainer Schrey: “He forced a hellish session upon Emre Mor which including crawling on all fours around the pitch for a long period of time, which was shocking.”

Best stir clear if Tuchel so

Marko

Bojangles

Real Sociedad will ‘pay 250,000 euros in instalments, a figure that is also subject to results.’

‘And they have not even included any preferential option for Real players, something that was once placed on the table.’

Jamie

Shame we’re losing Nacho. Solid professional.

Marko

Arsenal more inclined to allow Nacho to leave for feck all because he was a professional and a constant performer who acted respectfully until the end. Koscielny obviously was none of those things

Dream10

Marko

That’s revisionist history Koscielny played at a higher level than Nacho. And I’m a big fan of Nacho. I’m not happy that the club is sanctioning the move. Means that with Kolasinac playing at least one a week for a next few months, Emery will go for a back three more often than not thru choice. Here’s hoping that Tierney hits the ground running and stays as healthy as possible.

Moe

A mf of Guen, Xhaka and Ceballos will be the last straw for me with Emery. I really dont think he will be that stupid.

Bob N16

Marko, Koscielny’s departure was awful but to right off his nine year career because of the way he left us is ridiculous.

He made some infamous errors but otherwise he was our best CB for the time he was with us and I never saw him give anything but 100% effort.

I wonder exactly what was promised to him for his reaction to be so outrageous.

Receding Hairline

“That’s revisionist history Koscielny played at a higher level than Nacho”

They both played for Arsenal during the same time period, what higher level?

Receding Hairline

Nacho Monreal was also one of our most consistent performers, Mr Reliable as it were, i don’t believe Koscielny performed at a higher level. Both did the best they could for us with their abilities.

Marko was simply alluding to the manner of their departure, one conducted himself better than the other

Jamie

Nacho is a more well-rounded player than Kos because he can play at FB and CB.

Dream10

Nacho is more versatile than Koscielny.
One of the reasons why even though he is about a year and half past his best, we should not be letting him go. Covers LCB, LB and LWB. Club is relying on Bellerin, Holding and Tierney to be 100% fit from October to May. Dangerous game, particularly with our injury history. Lots of pressure on the defensive options

Cesc Appeal

All the best to Monreal.

Decent player for us and unlike another shithouse we had just kept his head down and acted like a professional.

Ishola70

One of Wenger’s better signings Monreal.

Consistent for most of his Arsenal career and dependable in relation to other Arsenal players.

There were signs that he was slowing down last season but he started pretty well this season but that is only a couple of matches and whether he could have gone a whole season without showing weakness again at some points relating to slowing down of pace that is another matter. Overall though a player you would have prefered to keep in the squad this season going by his first few matches this season.

Marko

Marko, Koscielny’s departure was awful but to right off his nine year career because of the way he left us is ridiculous.

Who’s writing off his 9 years. I’m saying since Monreal got up to speed with the league he was by far our most consistent performer in defence up until last season where his age caught up with him. Couple that with his professionalism and respect for the club and it’s understandable why we’re letting him go for pittance. He’ll be missed

Bob N16

Receding, Messi plays with Busquets, although they both play for Barcelona Messi is ‘at a higher level’, in other words his individual ‘playing’ level – it is not referring to the level of the league that they are playing in.

Marko

Nacho is a more well-rounded player than Kos because he can play at FB and CB.

Shit that’s true. But AMN is even more rounded as a player though

Rambo Ramsey

Haha, Bob having to spell it out.

Receding, are you sure its just your hair and not your braincells that are receding?

Bob N16

Marko, you said that Koscielny ‘was none of these things’ inferring that he was unprofessional. His departure was unprofessional, the rest of his time he was an excellent professional.

Agree totally with your praise of Monreal, he’ll be remembered respectfully which Koscielny now won’t be because of his ‘strike’.

azed

Koscielny playing at a higher level than Monreal is trash….. With Koz, you were guaranteed at least an error per game. While Monreal was solid throughout his time her.

Rambo Ramsey

We’re scrapping barrels for quality in defense and we sell Mr. Dependable?

Shambles

Receding Hairline

Bob if the original poster meant his performances were at a higher level i disagree too…someone here once said Kos was always overrated among Arsenal fans and i agree with that.

Rambo get something else to occupy your time, you lash out at posters fr posting too much yet your only input is when you drop by to mock. Don’t talk about brain cells, you don’t know what they are

Batistuta

Again, unless Tierney is going to hit the ground running once he gets back to full fitness in September or October, don’t trust Kolasinac to do a job for us at LB and neither does Emery as it seems we always play 3 at the back of it’s Kolasinac and that’s just a recipe for disaster. I’d have kept Monreal for a further year

Batistuta

Rambo

Not entirely shambles but we don’t know what Tierney is going to be like and Kolasinac in a back 4 is just asking for trouble, he’s the one I’d have sold before letting Monreal go

Marko

Marko, you said that Koscielny ‘was none of these things’ inferring that he was unprofessional. His departure was unprofessional, the rest of his time he was an excellent professional.

His departure was unprofessional ergo he was unprofessional.

Rambo Ramsey

“Not entirely shambles”

Well its Unai Wengery managing, so shambles are a defacto.

Jamie

“But AMN is even more rounded as a player though”

Chambers too. Super round. And Welbeck. Dude could score 4 goals a season from anywhere across the front line. We’ll miss his versatility.

jwl

The suits must be confident that Tierney will be ready soon or else we wouldn’t let Montreal go for nominal fee.

Bob N16

There were long periods where Koscielny was playing at a very high standard, high enough to play 50 times for France. Sure he made mistakes, Monreal who was extremely reliable did too, but to suggest Koscielny was anything but a very good footballer is revisionist nonsense, clouded by his unsatisfactory departure.

Once he got to around 30, his speed was tailing off but he would arguably(it might not say much) still have played a lot this season. Some people love to bring up the Birmingham fuck up with Szczesny, but he had many, many games where he played really well.

Bob N16

Jamie, ‘4 goals a season from anywhere…on his body’

Ishola70

People always take it with players like Monreal and Koscielny that it is about whether we keep them and the thought of they themselves wanting to leave never crosses their mind.

Monreal I read on here can get a three year deal somewhere else. Now over one season we all know Arsenal will pay better but over three seasons which Monreal knows he will not be able to give at the real highest level then it is financially more prudent for him to leave Arsenal at this point.

Bob N16

Marko, so you are righting off his previous 9 years professionalism because of the way he left, harsh!

Leftsidesanch

Tierney is probably closer than many think otherwise, in any event it wouldn’t have have harmed to keep Monreal as cover this year. The player probably also pushed for a move amicably.

Dream10

Real shame we’re not in the CL man.
Just needed one more win.

Europa League draw is decent. Frankfurt with no Jovic and Haller. Arsenal, Wolves and Porto should do well.

Marko

I’m not sure I agree with the trepidation regards to Tierney especially the worry about his durability. Lad just turned 22 has 170+ appearences already for Celtic and he even had 40 games and 3400 mins last season.

Marko

Also I think in this case irregardless of our needs we’re taking into account the wishes of Monreal and giving him his desired move. Again another difference between him and Koscielny we’re more inclined to do this for him because he’s acted professionally and respectfully since he’s been there

Vintage Gun

I agree regarding Tierney. You cant play 170 matches at 21 if your injury prone.
More likely Celtic OVER played him.

His game time management will be handled better here.

Vintage Gun

As for the Europa draw i think its a good one, Frankfurt, Standard anf Vitoria G means no long haul flights and good opposition for younger players.

raptora

Not sure when but couple of years ago I read about a several of the players in our team, being a group, lead by Koscielny. I can’t remember what happened but it feels like Wenger had managed to unwillingly “form” a group of players that were acting all tough and mighty, but at the same time they were okay with Arsenal not fighting for anything aka had losers mentality. Kos, Giroud, Coquelin not sure who else. We’re talking about Kos here, he who said he felt disgusted that his National Team won the World Cup cause was injured and didn’t… Read more »

Koscielny played under cortisone injections many times in his last seasons with us, that’s how dedicated he was.
Sent us to the CL with decisive goals twice if I’m not mistaken including one at Newcastle.
Was considered best CB in the league by Rio Ferdinand also.

Didn’t like the way it ended obviously but still have loads of respect for his overall contribution.
A few red cards and penalties/howlers will not change that.

Ishola70

Marko “Also I think in this case irregardless of our needs we’re taking into account the wishes of Monreal and giving him his desired move. Again another difference between him and Koscielny we’re more inclined to do this for him because he’s acted professionally and respectfully since he’s been there” We don’t know the individual cases of each player. Arsenal were linked with Tierney throughout the summer for a long time. It may have been the case that Monreal was always promised a move away this season. The David Luiz transfer was in comparison out of the blue and looked… Read more »

Nacho was like Sagna in terms of professionalism and being 7/10 minimum every weekend. Proper dependable and honest play.

He leaves with my full best wishes

Also fantastic to read that Ndombele is injured for this weekend. I was worried about him powering through our midfield. Son and Kane are the remaining head aches for us.

karim

Rap

Won’t change your opinion but at least he said he regretted his tirade about the French winning the WC.
As for us, he said his 9 years here show his respect for the club and fans.
Not far from agreeing.

He did disrespect the club twice, by refusing to go on the US tour and with that infamous video but what if the club disrespected him in the first place by breaking a promise ?

Just a possibility as my sources are not as reliable as Jamie’s

Normski

Karim

‘Didn’t like the way it ended obviously but still have loads of respect for his overall contribution.
A few red cards and penalties/howlers will not change that.’

Absolutely. Was a great servant and gave 100% for the shirt every time he was on the pitch.

Shame certain people have such short memories and just come across as ungrateful arseholes.

Jamie

Mon ami Karim gets it.

karim

Adam Ounas and Kasper Dolberg to Nice. Claude-Maurice too.
Vieira will be happy now.

More than Neymar who looks set to stay in France even though Barcelona was looking like they were about to get him back just a few days ago.
Reason being Dembele refuses to be loaned there

Paris then asked for € 215 m cash but Barça don’t have that sort of money.

Please stop with the inside information. Marko won’t believe you unless Neymar told you himself and you had a selfie to prove it…even then he’d think you photoshopped it and say you were lying!

Biggles

I’ll be sad to see Nacho go. He’s been super dependable for a few years. I would have much rather see Kola go, but let’s face it, nobody is coming in for him at the wages he’s on with the performances he gave us. And Monreal leaving probably covers the wages of Tierney. And the thing is, whilst Nacho has started the season well, he finished last season pretty poorly and looked utterly shot. I don’t think he’d have kept up the current level. I’m all for keeping the costs down whilst we’re in full-on rebuild mode. This summer was… Read more »

Bob N16

Good points Biggles, time was catching up with Monreal. He started the season well after a healthy pre season but not sure how long he’s going to stay 100%. It’s expecting a lot of Tiernay to get fit asap and stay fit but feel Monreal deserves respect.

Is he playing Sunday, if so he’ll get a well deserved send off?

Pierre

Marko “I’m not sure I agree with the trepidation regards to Tierney especially the worry about his durability. Lad just turned 22 has 170+ appearences already for Celtic and he even had 40 games and 3400 mins last season.” I agree , Tierney in the last 4 seasons has made a total of 180 appearances..definitely shows his durability without a doubt . Anyone who can manage that number of games has proven his worth . I think it’s worth mentioning that as you are so impressed with Tierney’s durability then you must be just as impressed with Mesut Ozil’s durability… Read more »

Luteo Guenreira

Pierre throwing this idol under the bus to prove a point. Impressive.

He’s got a point though. Ozil is a walking sick note so by comparison Pierre is right to be concerned about Tierney’s fitness moving forward.

Luteo Guenreira

OH NO did I misunderstand you, I thought you had a relevant point to the discussion when you disagreed with Marko about Tierney’s potential fitness, instead you were just shoehorning Ozil unnecessarily into the discussion as fucking usual. Carry on.

Eduardo

180 games in 4 years… Starting at the age of 17. In the Scottish League against the likes of Rangers.

Four years ago Ozil was what 27?

Nice try Pierre.

Pierre

So what is Tierney..

A liability for only playing 180 games in 4 years or durable .

I think it’s worth mentioning that Tierney plays in the dreadfully weak Scottish league where Celtic have strolled to the title every year compared to Ozil who plays in the toughest league in the world .

Jamie

Everyone talking about Nacho and Tierney, Pierre shows up eulogising his boyfriend’s fitness record. Notice how the conversation has moved on from Ozil’s assists to the number of his appearances?

[preemptive “Something something Wenger got the best out of Ozil something something.”]

Pierre

The question is , does one think that 180 games for a team who have walked to the title every year is more impressive than 180 games for a team that plays in in the premier league.

Luteo Guenreira

He’s a 22 yr old with a decent playing history that is recovering from an injury and probably is too soon to tell whether he should be labeled as durable or not just yet.

As opposed to the walking sick note who had nothing to do with the discussion but you brought up anyway.

Receding Hairline

If Ozil goes up and down the flanks the way Tierney used to for Celtic he would probably be retired now

A 22 year old who plays a high energy game is being compared to a 30 year old who has played at his own pace to the point of almost everyone complaining on his lack of work ethic

Pierre give it a rest, the discussion had nothing to do with Ozil

Luteo Guenreira

The question is , does one think that 180 games for a team who have walked to the title every year is more impressive than 180 games for a team that plays in in the premier league.

No. But not sure that has to do with anything. Thanks for sharing that you notice there are nuances to playing in different leagues. Here I thought things were the same everywhere for everybody.

Bob N16

Incorrigible Pierre, how you attempt to generate praise for Ozil, in whichever form that may take, is pitiful. I’m strangely almost impressed by your desperate attempts though.
