The concept of the modern marathon was inspired by a Greek football fan that legged it from the site of Marathon to Athens to deliver a scoreline, the distance was 25 or so miles. The message was about an important game in which a Greek football team defeated a Persian one (they had good football back then). The messenger died, so to commemorate this heroic football nut, they have marathons around the world.

The point of my story is this… if Emery doesn’t achieve anything in his Arsenal career, but manages to shift on Elneny and Mustafi, I’ll name a special day after him. I’ll petition the club to give him a stand. I’ll get on the blower to the Pope and ask how you go about Sainthoods.

This is what Saint Unai said of the pair yesterday.

“They are very big players but for one circumstance or another they are going to have fewer chances to show their capacity or to be happy with us and the minutes they play in matches,” Emery said. “But they know the situation and really I am wishing the best for them. I think now the best for them is to be protagonists in another team and to get another challenge for themselves.”

“Last year with Mustafi and Mo, when they didn’t play they weren’t happy and I spoke with them a lot of times last year and this pre-season,”

“I think it is positive for them to leave and sign for another team where they can be protagonists and be happy and continue their careers.”

I firm up when I read vicious quotes like that. When did Wenger EVER talk that aggressively about his babies? Never.

I am also warmed to hear that the players like to play. Those two are too young to ride out a fat contract. By sitting on deals, they take themselves out of the shop window, their games get rusty and clubs around Europe frame them as a pair of Winston Bogarde’s. If you’re young, you should want to play football, even if that’s at a cost of a few grand a week.

To ride out a deal takes a special sort of person. Someone with a character big enough not to be impacted by the humiliation of being benched.

Both players have value. Mustafi has a lot of good going in his game. He’s played all around the world. He’s made of strong stuff. He just needs a really good defensive coach to beast him into not being so dim. Elneny is just at the wrong level of club. He needs to go to Italy or a middling club in Spain.

Both need to move off that wage bill.

In loan news, it was great to see Eddddddiiiiiieeeeeeee score his second goal at Leeds. I really think he could be a blistering talent if he’s given the chance. I love that he’s at Leeds learning under Bielsa. He’s going to learn to be more decisive, he’ll build confidence from the goals, he’ll get tougher under the brutal conditions of the Championship. It should be a very good year for him.

Hector Bellerin went OFF on the mighty Ceballos.

“I think Dani’s one of the best players I’ve seen in my career. I’ve played with him since we were like 18 or 19 years old. We’ve played in the under-21s, we get on really well off the pitch”

“He’s up for it & he’s a player who will go through thick & thin to do the best for his team. He’s got a great heart & he plays for everyone around him. I think he’s a great addition”

David Ornstein continues to drop beads of gold onto the newsfeed. Again, clarifying the authoritarian regime that Arsene Wenger ran.

Power really is a corrupting force. When you’re succeeding, the last thing you should do is build a team of yes men around you. That’s what Wenger did, then when things started to fail, he had no answers. He wanted to wear every hat. You do wonder what he could have achieved if he’d ripped out his back team and installed up and coming coaches. What would our trophy cabinet have looked like if he’d had a more powerful CEO next to him that insisted on owning the infrastructure?

Wenger could still be a player if he’d allowed other people to develop his ideas… but he didn’t, and now he’s watering the flowers in a very green garden in North London.

“The meetings used to be just between Kroenke and Wenger”@bbcsport_david on how changes in personnel at the top have made #Arsenal ‘more proactive in the transfer market’.

Right, that’s me done. Listen to this podcast before the Liverpool game tomorrow.

  1. DaleDaGooner

Emery keeps shitting the bed with his personnel selection in these type of games. Overthinks the selection.

  2. kamp

They seem like that have 3 or 4 more players than us. Emery has a good squad now, I think he needs to settle a formation and a style of play. Early days yet as he hasn’t got all his best players fit yet. ANM, Natcho are playing as we have no choice on those positions due to injury.

I think torriera is due a run, he should be ahead of Xhaka.
Laca should be on the field he is the most composed striker we have.

Willock continues to impress. Plenty of positives but also, quite a bit of work to do

  3. raptora

Raheem: “Didn’t expect to win this just wanted us to look half descent”

We did. First half was positive. On another day Pepe or Laca take their chances. Pool had worse chances than us in the first half.

  4. Guns of Hackney

The decision to not buy another defender will cost us badly. Luiz is not and never was any good. He’s a saucy lad but not a footballer.

    Our midfield is so weak.

  5. DaleDaGooner

AMN needs to be put away from January. He’s not goin to make it if the technical team knows anything. We need a proper Right Back! Better than Bellerin cause even he is shit too.

  6. DUIFG

Torreira must start. Warrior spirit, neat and tidy. I’d rather die a hundred times with torr rather than granit

  7. Just Another Customer

Xhaka is used to spam long balls to the pacy forwards upfront but with other defenders and midfielders covering him he’s quite okay for now although a bit shaky at the start

  8. Tony

    Some knee jerk reactions here.

Most had us down for a loss including me: just hope we could do better.

Just learn from this and move on.

    Season is still young

  9. Dissenter

AMN is another one that will be sold off like Iwobi
He’s not good enough for the midfield and is not a good full back.
Hope we get a proper RB to challenge Bellerin next summer. .. and sell AMN.

  10. PieAFC

I’m so pissed off at this result. Just when you thought the season and big game was going to be a little different.

    Even bigger game next week.

  11. Guns of Hackney

Heroin consumption in Liverpool will go up tonight massively. Scousers will be celebrating long into the night.

  12. Just Another Customer

easy they already followed the gameplan had both Auba and Pepe took their chances the match would’ve been different

also if not for those to gaff from Luiz it would have been 1-1 right now I know this is not an excuse as the hypothetical dynamics and scenario would have been different

  13. Gazzap

The diamond with split strikers on the wings was an atrocious decision by emery and cost us this game. As soon as we go 3 up front with 3 ball winning midfielders we’ve looked like a proper threat. Emery takes this one 100%

  14. Alexanderhenry

I’m sure Emery, Raul and the other powers that be at arsenal tried to get rid of Xhaka mhiki and ozil this summer.

The problem is that they are all on huge wages.
I’d offer them for nothing. Who cares about the loss, just get rid.

  15. Samesong

I don’t think we should be downhearted about this game. There’s plenty of teams that will get a drubbing at anfield

  16. Dissenter

” We are in a dog fight for 4th”

It won’t be a dog fight if we win the games that we have to win.
United under OGS or Lampard’s Chelsea aren’t as good as us.

  17. MGooner

When you think that Wenger kept us in the top 4 with a negarive net spend so many years…

This team looks like half a team on personel

and on playing style, it looks clueless.

  18. DigitalBob

PieAFC – yep next week we need to be better. We are better at home so I don’t think we’ll lose but much better performances are needed from both the players and coach!

  19. Marko

I do actually agree with what seems to be a minority consensus in that Emery should be sacked. In fact I think anyone who goes to Liverpool and loses by two or more goals should sack their manager

  20. PieAFC

We’re always trying something different though.

We don’t have any idea what formation from one game to the next.

  21. Pierre

On the plus side , pepe will bring a lot of enjoyment to the Arsenal fans ..

Not all games will be as difficult as this .

  22. Guns of Hackney

    Wenger for the comeback.

I’d love that. Just for the season then Arteta.

    Wenger wouldn’t have lost today.

  23. Guns of Brixton

Expected to lose , were some flashes and moments that were good.

If Luiz wasn’t so brain dead at times maybe the score line wouldn’t be so bad

Do feel there is only so far Emery can take us.

  24. Dream10

Not watching the sky commentary, but that smug bastard Gary Neville mocking us again. Fucking can’t stand him.

  25. Dissenter

Monreal was ball watching for that third goal too.
He had to know that David Luiz couldn’t take one for the team because he was on yellow card already. He should have been ready to drag down Salah.
We need to get better with rotational fouling.

  26. Leedsgunner

I’m sorry but I’m going to say the scoreline really flattered Liverpool. Ok the Salah goal was good but otherwise we conceded two soft goals.

  27. Gentlebris

    Absolutely shit coach.

Even Chelsea with a ban was not this dominated in the super.

Spuds went to City and played a game of football.

A shit coach who can’t get a game out of his team.

He doesn’t even know his first eleven. Shit coach. Continues to play from the back when it’s obviously not working as if that’s the only way to play football.

This one can’t tie Wenger’s bootlaces even a 2019 Wenger that can’t find a job.

If this guy is here next season, then Raul, Vinai and Edu are a waste of time.

5-1, then this. I’m gonna puke.

  28. raptora

Agreed. We saw that they have spotted the weak footballers as Elneny, Mustafi, Ospina, Jenkinson, Asano, Welbeck. I trust they have their eyes on Ozil and Mikki for next summer. Not entirely sure if Xhaka is on that list yet. I hope he is.

  29. TR7

Expected a defeat against Pool but Emery gets his tactics wrong yet again. I called Torrera and Laca to be brought on as soon as 2nd half started but Emery too slow in responding to danger posed by Pool.

  30. Guernsey gun

Thanks for that and to all those cunts with their Dani Ceballos wank socks…..I have some bad news, he’s Fran Merida mark deux Zidane does not let winners go, game 3 And yea we are as Shiraz we we’re er were.

  31. Cesc Appeal

Great effort from the players, you can’t fault that…I mean aside from Luiz’s stupid shirt pull and getting turned far too easily.

As Neville said, just an enormous gulf in class present there, too fast, too strong for us.

Better teams than us will lose there.

That said, plenty of positives to take away from that as well.

As Neville said the 4-3-3 system at the end looked much better than the 4-1-2-1-2, some of that is down to Liverpool substitutes and them dropping off as well, but still.

Pepe looked good. What a fucking game to get your first start. But looked good. Van Dijk did not like playing against him, neither did Robertson and he certainly brings a fear factor with his feet.

Torreira looked fit, sharp and hungry when he came on. Start for him against Spurs.

Guendouzi again had a good display and I didn’t think Xhaka was that bad either.

I cannot, cannot, cannot wait until we get full backs playing though.

    Absolutely must beat Spurs now.

  32. Moe

Having watched both halves I must agree that Emery over tinkered. Just play your best team and believe in your players. That’s not what I saw in the first half. The first half set up is disappointing to say the least

  33. Dissenter

“Laca is central to our attack, nothing I’ve seen says otherwise. Guy loves a scrap”

Is there a way we can get him to play the central role Firminho plays for ‘pool?

  34. Valentin

Emery’s tactic cost us the game. You can’t concede the midfield to Liverpool and expect to get away with it. Leaving our fullbacks exposed by their attackers and their overlapping fullback is just asking to be beaten.
    The personnel was wrong.
Xhaka stay on the pitch for 90 minutes. Outside of blackmail on Emery I can’t fathom why.
Aubameyang did his usual disappearing act against top 6 opposition.
Mhkitaryan was given a few minutes to do what exactly.

  35. Redtruth

Learn the basics, like pass a ball.
A strong midfield wins that game.
Need to jettison the usual suspects and replace with quality.
    We need two Pepe’s upfront.

  36. peanuts&monkeys

someone brutally (or however) end Emery out of Arsenal. This is an unnecessary pain we are going through. This Arsenal team does not play for Emery. Its not making sense. Let him go. Get a young German manager from BL.

  37. Denisk Birdkampf

Absolutely putrid football from us, no urgency, too many touches, pointlessly playing out from the back everytime soooo slooooowly, just doesn’t work with these players and certainly not against pool, just vile stuff to watch.

  38. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

Drop xhara play torr we will be ok..

    Weren’t disgraced .

Put up a show. Let’s hope tomorrow s results go our way

  39. Dissenter

If you’re expecting Liverpool to beat us then what’s the fuss.
They would have beaten us because they did somethings better that us
They didn’t buy new players in the summer while we had to rebuild. You of all people [i.e. a good poster] ought to know it takes time to out the pieces together.

Careful not to over-react. The diamond [which I detested too] worked until Matip got to a dead ball first..then it. became the David Luiz show.

  40. TT

With a bit of luck it could have been better. The team never leyed down and have up . I fire one will take a lot of positives from this game.

  41. Danny M.O

This team will look really different with a 433 and the right personnel

    bel sok luiz tier
    amn torreira willock
    pep laca auba.

amn and willock have the pace to cover the fullbacks.

same formation minus willock if we want to kill a team

    bel sok luiz tier
    amn torreira
    pepe laca auba

People need to realise how good amn is. As a midfielder he can cover a full back position. is any of our midfielders defensively capable to do that? xhaka hell no, torreira doesnt have the legs or stam, cabellos doesnt have the engine etc etc. The lad is good however he needs to be used in the midfield. He can be the anchor that covers tierney or bell when they bomb forward. He can also dribble and beat a man which is more than what xhaka or guendouzi can ever do.

  42. Champagne charlie

That’s how he plays already if you ask me, he’s not the threat in behind he’s the link man with the cuteness about him.

Pepe instead of Iwobi will make this more apparent this season I reckon.

95% of the time our best forward line is Laca central with Pepe and Auba wide of him imo. No reason that can’t be as potent as Liverpool’s attack at full tilt.

  43. peanuts&monkeys

This Auba and Pepe were playing with half their cylinders today. There wasn’t any urgency visible in them. The forward line was not playing to win. I will blame all that on current manager. Let him go.

  44. Edu me a favour

Why will spurs be ‘laughing ‘ exactly? We beat them at home last season no ? With a worse starting 11 … they are not in the same league as pool so let’s get a little perspective here , don’t let their draw with city fool you – that was daylight robbery. We will be well up for the NLD ….

  45. vickingz

Expected a defeat against Pool but Emery gets his tactics wrong yet again. I called Torrera and Laca to be brought on as soon as 2nd half started but Emery too slow in responding to danger posed by Pool.

@TR7 I was so surprised he didn’t make half time double sub, more like he sold this game. What was he waiting for to make the subs? Not only did he get the tactics wrong, he got everything wrong. He’s not the coach to take us to the promise land I reiterate

  46. Cesc Appeal

How we set up that midfield is going to be interesting going forward. Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pepe has to be attempted up front but what happens behind them?

Liverpool essentially have two sets of 5 in their team. Alexander Arnold, Robertson, Mane, Firmino, Salah who are mainly attacking threats and then Van Djik, Matip and the midfield 3 as a more solid high tempo defensive set up that keeps the ball moving.

We need to attempt the same, Bellerin, Tierney, Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pepe at least on paper looks like it could be a good attacking threat. It’s our other 5 that is the issue, who are they and can they do the job?

  47. Dissenter

Then we need better quality midfielders to make that Laca in the middle plan work.
Ceballos will get another acid test [😊😊😊] next week in the NLD.

  48. Gentlebris

‘Despite the loss we gave a good account of ourselves until the 60h minute. We can build on this.’

    Build on what exactly?

Being outrageously pinned back when we try to play from the back?
Having no flow in the midfield?
Or not knowing our first eleven?
Binning our best front guy on a day like this?

We can’t build on anything Emery, he’s a waste of time.

Give him his money and tell him to fuck off. Give Arteta the gig and let’s see where we stand going forward.

  49. raptora

We could think about outplaying Pool next season at the earliest. We are far behind, not entirely just on personnel, but in the phase of our project. Needs time. Last year was a waste. This year the team really is new. With Tierney and Bellerin back we’ll be much better.

  50. Guns of Hackney

We won’t be able to play Barnsley and Newcastle every week.

I’d say that there are at least 8 teams that can beat us fairly easily.

Fourth will be almost impossible unless something changes.

  51. Nelson

If Emery didn’t see that defensively Xhaka is a ball watcher, then God helps us. Watched the penalty. Xhaka was standing next to Firmino. When Arnold passed the ball, Xhaka didn’t do shit. Firmino tipped the ball to Salah, causing the penalty. Torr should play that DM position.

  52. TR7

I am not overreacting. My only criticism is Emery could have changed his tactics when it was clear to everyone diamond formation was like playing in to the hands of Pool. Milner, Henderson.and Wijnaldum are not world class midfielders. If Emery let our midfielders to play slightly up and press them, at least we would have put a better performance.

  53. Dissenter

On the balance, David Luiz will bring more benefits to the team.
Even when you account for his stand-up comic errors [which were well known], he is the best stop-gap CB we could have signed.

  54. Marko

CA can’t disagree with any of that. The usual types are somewhat moving the goalposts which isn’t a surprise. We weren’t expected to win pretty much all won’t win there this season. The best we could have hoped for was an improvement in performance and not get embarrassed and outside of the first 10-15 mins of each half we did that. Still a work in progress. Top 4 is still on

  55. Samesong

People slating Pepe today didn’t see how hard it worked today. Yes he missed some chances but he will get better.

  56. Cesc Appeal

‘People slating Pepe today didn’t see how hard it worked today’

People slating Pepe didn’t watch the game…simple as.

  57. Un na naai

    Here we go

    All the tacticians. Zzzzzzzz
    Emery is dog shit
    Luiz is wank
Ceballos could not lace Santi’s boots

    All proved today
    Marko is a toss pot

    You getting this marko?
    You’re a toss pot!!
    You’re predictions are laughable
Your knowledge of football is atrocious

Listen to wenger eagle. Learn a thing or two mongo

  58. DigitalBob

Dissenter – no, not at all. He will cost us more than any free kick he scores or long pass he makes. He’s a liability.

  59. Dissenter

    Unai na
The fans have found their voice.
Kroenke’s heir has talked about pro activism.
If Emery doesn’t get to the CL, he’s off…his contract won’t be renewed.
Enjoy the season without all the Emery nonsense.

  60. Cesc Appeal

    I agree.

I was a bit frustrated that Emery took so long to change things because the way that game was going we could have got another and the nerves in that ground really would have started to show.

Bellerin and Tierney can’t get fit soon enough for me.

I don’t know what the midfield will be for Spurs, possibly Torreira, Xhaka, Dani Ceballos? Or Torreria, Guendouzi, Dani Ceballos?

  61. Ishola70

As comfortable a 3-1 win for Liverpool as you’ll see.

They stopped playing after they scored their third goal.

David Luiz was shite and was responsible for two goals.

Sokratis was disaapointing for the first Liverpool goal. Matip was his man and he was nearest to him and Matip raped him on the corner ball to score.

As we all most probably knew before the match big chasm between the teams and not much worth talking about regarding the game as a whole as Liverpool were clearly superior team. Arsenal limited to a few counter chances.

  62. raptora

Not with what you’ve said. More than half of the posts were shitposts against Emery, Pepe, Auba…. I’m not happy with the result or with what we’ve showed. But I liked some things. It’s not doom and gloom. It’s our 3rd game. Away to the UCL holders. With a new team. With a bit of luck we could have scored first and do better.

  63. peanuts&monkeys

This whole thing of playing from the back will never work unless we traon this backline some more on the ball skills. While AMN, Papa and Torreira can improve, XHAKA and Guendouzzi can NEVER.

  64. Gentlebris

Klopp must be laughing now wondering why Emery is so so shit.
From now till Emery is sacked, it’s Emery out for me.

  65. kamp

    Thoughts on Ceballos.
Looked slow to me today. We won’t play a team as good as Liverpool all season, but nevertheless in the EPL I think every midfielder needs to be an athlete.

He will be great in games where we dominate position but when we need to fight to touch it….I’m not yet convinced. I think Willock is a better player.

  66. DUIFG

As CA says there were some positives today.

I’ve ribbed guen but today he was good.

Pepe looks class, imagine him up against not duk and Robertson, scenes.

My worry is Torreira is always in my preferred xi- apart from everything else he is nasty and a winner, arsenal need that as our mentality is weak.

Other concerns is that we have a manager with a decent of players, but can he get more than the sum of the parts? I don’t know

Additionally need to get real, our cb paring is at best a b-

  67. Dissenter

I agree that Pepe looked good. Emery was right to play him the entire game.’
That said, you have hope he gets that awkward deflected goal pretty soon because you know the narrative of pressure about big name signings.
I think he just needs that one goal. He’s a gem.

  68. peanuts&monkeys

“If Emery doesn’t get to the CL, he’s off…his contract won’t be renewed.”

Waiting for Emery to scrape through and give us Top-4 will be a horrendous mistake. He has to be sent off now.

  69. DUIFG

Kamp, I know it’s post game but get real. Ceballos played for Madrid and dominated u 21 euros.

You try playing your first start at anfield and try get up to pace.

  70. Champagne charlie

“The usual types are somewhat moving the goalposts which isn’t a surprise.”

Nonsense, the result today was academic compared to our performance.

Teams will go to Anfield and perform better than we did, to a more articulate game plan. That’s my issue with today.

We were decent first half, no gripes except the manner we conceded from a corner. But we were in the game. It’s just not on to be so out for the game inside 15 mins of the restart.

  71. S Asoa

Ceballos needs too many touches. At level of City, Liverpool, probably Spores things go too fast for his liberties. But he should be good at other games.

  72. Ishola70

    Ceballos was a hindrance today.

But in saying that when a team is so clearly second best in the match and home team are on top so much it’s difficult for individuals to shine in such circumstances.

Ceballos was not good today. Not good at all.

Hard to see what his role was today other than get behind the ball and defend for the whole match as the other midfielders done.

  73. UK bubbler

I real positive is that liverpool away is a good game to get out the way early.

I think we have some good players, but not feeling Emery anymore. Surely he must have a formation we will stick with? Is he the Spanish ranieri

  74. Dissenter

“Sokratis was disaapointing for the first Liverpool goal. Matip was his man and he was nearest to him and Matip raped him on the corner ball to score.”

I think you need to watch it again.
Guen struggled to match VVD and wad all over him like a sumo wrestler. It was that calamitous match up that made it impossible for Sok to reach Matip in time- Guen and VVD were in the way.
VVD would have gotten penalty had Matip not scored. He held his jersey so much VAR wouldn’t have missed it.

  75. TR7

Again I will caution people from going over the top in Pepe praise. People were going gaga over Ceballos too after his performance against Burnley. Pepe looked dangerous but it remains to be seen whether he has composure too.

  76. Champagne charlie

I’d be hesitant to play Ceballos against Spurs, sooner Laca play and bring Torreira into midfield for Guen or Willock, maybe Xhaka and have Guen deepest.

  77. Pierre

“I hope Pepe doesn’t become predictable in the way he runs and takes his shot. Early days still but I hope he has more tricks in his locker.”

He will be fine , he has enough tricks in his locker to create problems ,though he favours his left .
His quick feet to beat the defender to put him through on goal today was sublime skill though the finish was a little bit iwobiish.

Looks like he can go both ways with ease, or the nutmeg .

Defenders will try and show him onto his right foot but to me he looks like a player who knows how to catch a defender off balance.

  78. Cesc Appeal

I have no worries about Pepe getting a goal. We were playing against the best defence in the EPL today and he looked good, clearly scared them.

The goals will come. I’m very excited by him, he dribbled passed Van Dijk today as well which is something very few attackers do. Every time he got the ball the Liverpool defence backed off and didn’t want to commit.

My worry with Pepe when we bought him was how he would react to the fast, physical, energy sapping EPL games and he stood up massively today.

Our attacking 3 will only get better when Bellerin and Tierney are fit, take Alexander Arnold and Robertson out of Liverpool and see what they look like. I’m not saying our 2 are as good as their 2 but you get the point.

  79. PhD2020

A bit surprised Emery did not line up with Pepe, Auba &Laca in his starting eleven.

Seemed to go into the game with a damage limitation exercise mindset built-in.
We were sloppy, no sense of urgency and gave spaces to Salah to run into -especially in the second half.

This playing out from the back,is non-sensical.There is a time and place for it.
AMN needs to be rid of..

Whilst I’m mindful of calling for Emery’s head-I don’t get his set up.And why bring on Laca in the 80th min, when we are 3-0 down?

    I don’t get it.Nor,do I want to.

    I actually expected a 4-0/4-1/5-1 Liverpool win..Wasn’t far off..

Not totally emanoured with this Emery guy.I suspect,he is staking all his chips again this season on the Europa Cup and with blind faith on a top four finish in the EPL.

Not impressed, especially with a better squad this season.
    One point would have sufficed.

The guy seems a bit bamboozled with his own tactics, not really convinced so far.
But will hold the fort, before calling for his head via the guillotine.

    Where the heck is Allegri?

People complaining about Emery tinkering do need to realize that he has to start rotating players.
Willocks for once needs a break. He should be rested for the NLD.
I would play Ozil at home on Sunday ahead of Ceballos.

  81. Cesc Appeal

Sanchez in that Spurs defence is ripe for dribbling against as well, very physical but not exactly technically proficient defender. If Vertonghen is playing he loves a clog against an opponent as well.

If Pepe approaches that game with the attitude he showed today he should get his rewards.

Spurs looked very vulnerable from crossed against City, again…so fucking frustrating we don’t have full backs.

“I’d be hesitant to play Ceballos against Spurs”

Should only use him in home games or games where we have high possession.

Oh , I forgot we already have one of those.

On the plus side, the debate whether Ceballos was the second coming of Fabregas or Cazorla has been settled. In view of his performance Real Madrid are unlikely to price us out.

The debate whether Emery is a master tactician or an over-thinker should definitely be in the box resolved: over-thinker.

the game confirmed that Xhaka exerts a mind control over Arsenal coaches to play him, because his performance never warrant him to be in the starting team, never mind captaining the side.

  84. Cesc Appeal

I agree that Willock needs a break.

Very raw and looked tired today, started to get really sloppy.

Essentially he will get 2 weekends of rest with he international break…sigh.

I was aware that Van Dijk was interfering with Guendouzi but as we know Guendouzi is shit in the air anyway.

The point you are missing yet again is that Matip was Sokratis’ man. Not Guendouzi’s.

And Mastip raped Sokratis on the header.

I suggest you watch the replay again not once but thrice so it registers with you.

“Spurs looked very vulnerable from crossed against City, again…so fucking frustrating we don’t have full backs.”

Would have made little or no difference today with the way the manager set up our midfield .

Very strange tactics to allow their 2 full backs have the freedom of the pitch .

Trying to defend Liverpool’s crosses from the feet of their front 3 within the penalty box was BOUND to concede a penalty. and, that’s exactly what happenned. Even a duffer like me could make that out by the 40th minute, how could the brains at the Arsenal dugout not?????

  88. Receding Hairline

Pepe was very good today…could have finished the second chance in the first half better but boy did he skin Robertson with a good bit of skill

Outside of that there was nothing encouraging about this performance, many teams will lose at Anfield but they will play better. Nor do I like judging the performance of subs in a game the opposition were already 3-0 up.
