EMERY BRUTALLY ENDS TWO PLAYERS

by & filed under News Review.

The concept of the modern marathon was inspired by a Greek football fan that legged it from the site of Marathon to Athens to deliver a scoreline, the distance was 25 or so miles. The message was about an important game in which a Greek football team defeated a Persian one (they had good football back then). The messenger died, so to commemorate this heroic football nut, they have marathons around the world.

The point of my story is this… if Emery doesn’t achieve anything in his Arsenal career, but manages to shift on Elneny and Mustafi, I’ll name a special day after him. I’ll petition the club to give him a stand. I’ll get on the blower to the Pope and ask how you go about Sainthoods.

This is what Saint Unai said of the pair yesterday.

“They are very big players but for one circumstance or another they are going to have fewer chances to show their capacity or to be happy with us and the minutes they play in matches,” Emery said. “But they know the situation and really I am wishing the best for them. I think now the best for them is to be protagonists in another team and to get another challenge for themselves.”

“Last year with Mustafi and Mo, when they didn’t play they weren’t happy and I spoke with them a lot of times last year and this pre-season,”

“I think it is positive for them to leave and sign for another team where they can be protagonists and be happy and continue their careers.”

I firm up when I read vicious quotes like that. When did Wenger EVER talk that aggressively about his babies? Never.

I am also warmed to hear that the players like to play. Those two are too young to ride out a fat contract. By sitting on deals, they take themselves out of the shop window, their games get rusty and clubs around Europe frame them as a pair of Winston Bogarde’s. If you’re young, you should want to play football, even if that’s at a cost of a few grand a week.

To ride out a deal takes a special sort of person. Someone with a character big enough not to be impacted by the humiliation of being benched.

Both players have value. Mustafi has a lot of good going in his game. He’s played all around the world. He’s made of strong stuff. He just needs a really good defensive coach to beast him into not being so dim. Elneny is just at the wrong level of club. He needs to go to Italy or a middling club in Spain.

Both need to move off that wage bill.

In loan news, it was great to see Eddddddiiiiiieeeeeeee score his second goal at Leeds. I really think he could be a blistering talent if he’s given the chance. I love that he’s at Leeds learning under Bielsa. He’s going to learn to be more decisive, he’ll build confidence from the goals, he’ll get tougher under the brutal conditions of the Championship. It should be a very good year for him.

Hector Bellerin went OFF on the mighty Ceballos.

“I think Dani’s one of the best players I’ve seen in my career. I’ve played with him since we were like 18 or 19 years old. We’ve played in the under-21s, we get on really well off the pitch”

“He’s up for it & he’s a player who will go through thick & thin to do the best for his team. He’s got a great heart & he plays for everyone around him. I think he’s a great addition”

LOVE TO READ IT.

David Ornstein continues to drop beads of gold onto the newsfeed. Again, clarifying the authoritarian regime that Arsene Wenger ran.

Power really is a corrupting force. When you’re succeeding, the last thing you should do is build a team of yes men around you. That’s what Wenger did, then when things started to fail, he had no answers. He wanted to wear every hat. You do wonder what he could have achieved if he’d ripped out his back team and installed up and coming coaches. What would our trophy cabinet have looked like if he’d had a more powerful CEO next to him that insisted on owning the infrastructure?

Wenger could still be a player if he’d allowed other people to develop his ideas… but he didn’t, and now he’s watering the flowers in a very green garden in North London.

“The meetings used to be just between Kroenke and Wenger”@bbcsport_david on how changes in personnel at the top have made #Arsenal ‘more proactive in the transfer market’.

Right, that’s me done. Listen to this podcast before the Liverpool game tomorrow.

If you read my first post today I said we played to “LOSE” and also as I have posted many times before our defence is a complete “REBUILD” job.

All the defenders, which we have recruited in past decade have a common denominator. They arrive at the club with defensive frailties and they are either too old to change or have played within a coaching system which has failed to eradicate the faults.

There is also an organisational and leadership problem when you watch the
team play. Maitland-Niles in particular has still not learned how to play and
position himself when required to defend in right wing back position and is
specifically targeted by most opposition teams.

I appreciate that Torreira did not have a good second half of season but he is by a country mile the best defensive/central midfield player we have got. Even
when he is beaten he has decent recovery and does not make the same silly mistakes that both Xhaka and Guendouzi are prone to do.

What Arsenal do need is a tall physically strong athletic midfielder to play alongside Torreira with players like Ceballos or Willock to focus on offensive
midfield play, but working also on their defensive game as well.

  2. Chika

We completely ceded the flanks to a team renowned to been very potent there but we should be excited because apparently “what did their fullbacks do with the possession”?

  3. PhD2020

If Raul, Vinay& Josh have any gumption, they should be lining up suitable replacements. Since we are apparently showing”AMBITION” in the transfer market, then in the same vein, we should be showing the equivalent ambition in the market for top class coaches..Starting with Allegri, more so, if we have designs to compete with the so-called elite.

We’ve been hearing that drum beat for the last decade and a half, so let’s put the pieces of the jigsaw in place, rather than giving one another a pat on the back for a decent transfer window(one by the way,off the back of a universal petition).

Let’s take it to another level:

    Expectations
    Actionable items:
    Deliverables on all fronts:

Once Emery’s contract is done at the end of the season,we should have a top class coach in place to seamlessly transition himself into the club. And take/elevate the club on the footballing side to the next level, that we have all been patiently waiting for -for nigh on a decade, given Ivan”The Terrible’s” piity patter.

And certainly not being entertained with Arsene’s version of -“The next level,is the next level,” nonsense.

  4. G8

If you’re playing counter attacking , you need to take your sparse chances as they come, we didn’t …
At the moment we are so inferior to the dippers in every single department..
    finishers, midfield, defence, coach,
Everyone banging about vvd, but Matip is also up there with the best.
The full backs as good as they come
Midfield full of energy and aggresion
Attackers who can finish and score out of nothing..
And above all that ,they now have all the confidence and belief in the world aka “mental strength “

  5. Ishola70

All that is happening here is that fans are playing the fall back line of if only.

If only this, if only that.

And there is still over-rating of the team in relation to the Liverpool’s and Man City’s of this world. But what do you expect. Fans still haven’t been completely weened off Wenger’s bullshit for so many years that Arsenal were contenders to win the title. Takes time to rid yourself of the self delusion generated by Wenger.

  6. Ishola70

    Don

Most of what you talk about on here is reminiscing stuff. Reminiscing about Wenger, reminiscing about ex Wenger players.

Are you going to get on the train to look to move forward or are you going to stay on the platform and keep daydreaming about your hero?

  7. Receding Hairline

Don insulting ishola with relation to intelligence has to be the funniest thing I have read on here. Lots of chest beating going on too,we are the Arsenal so we should not be set up to defend…lol

  8. Receding Hairline

Monreal has a two year contract offer with option for a third from Sociedad, he wants to leave but I think Emery wants him to see out his deal. Let’s see how that works out before September 1.

Compare his attitude and conduct with that of Koscielny though….

  9. Chris

I think Tim Stillman on Twitter summed it up well. In a nutshell, it may have been in hindsight a bad choice of tactics but Liverpool have so many ways to hurt you that it they are likely to win out no matter what you do, they evolve and adapt in game and it is something we should aspire to.

Let’s learn from it and move on, Spurs next, Who I think we have the measure of.

  10. Majesticgooner

The way I saw yesterday’s game was we should have started with Lacazette, end off, when Liverpool were in possession, all our midfielders had one player they were marking so you saw matip and van dyke carrying the ball and making that extra man in midfield, both Pepe and aubamayang were out on the wings trying to stop the full backs, if lacazette was on the pitch they would not have had that space . Whether emery likes it or not we are a better team when laca plays, the sooner he accepts that the better, the guy engages the centre backs, something that’s lacking in aubamayangs game.

  11. shaun

struggling a bit with Emery’s thinking on his line up , i thought he might have learned we are better playing our best players torriea and laca should have started yesterday but instead we get Xhaka who can’t run ,or tackle , or turn and who did not look match fit to me .if Laca had started it would of caused more problems for Vandyke who was already struggling with pepe , jsut think we would’ve scored in the first half and changed the game

  12. Ishola70

    Receding Hairline
“Don insulting ishola with relation to intelligence has to be the funniest thing I have read on here”

I misread one of the posts. Terrible ain’t it.

I read that Don is into Alan Watts. He will be delving into Wittgenstein’s Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus next no doubt. That’s when he is not daydreaming about Wenger.

  13. Drey

    Receding Hairline
Drey what exactly is Emery’s depth?? What is Arsenals at this point… Not the past or the invincibles, Arsenal of the past 5-10 years, what exactly is so special about us??

    Stop beating about the bush.
Liverpool are a better side than us.
Emery is yet to have a determined way of playing.
Playing conservatively with the hopes of not losing 5-1 is defeatist mentality.
Playing with your strongest XI with a proper game plan and still losing would have been a positive.
We are not Fulham FC trying not to conceede against a big team.

I was a Wenger out and still stand by it, so don’t even try to drag me to the Wenger-was-better bullshit

  14. Gentlebris

‘Drey what exactly is Emery’s depth?? What is Arsenals at this point… Not the past or the invincibles, Arsenal of the past 5-10 years, what exactly is so special about us??’

What’s special about us is we are trying to shake off the failures of the past, we have a management team who seems keen on that. And so this is no time to give a shit coach a standing ovation after demonstrating one of the worst tactics in football.

We were passive for many years under Wenger…..not again.

  15. UTarse

What a disappointment yesterday was, Emery did exactly what I had feared and for me this man is now on borrowed time. If I had one message that I could get through to him is keep it simple stupid, formation WRONG, Xhaka playing WRONG, tactics at fortress Anfield WRONG.

Hopefully Allegri is still on holiday by time we come knocking.

  16. Gentlebris

This will not be popular but I think we must go for Jose.

I have been following the man and he seems to be desperate to prove he can still do a job plus I noticed he has learnt some humility.

Jose is a competitor and a winner, and one thousand of Emery and OGS can’t swim in Jose’s oceans.

  17. Marko

Top 4 is the goal and it’s still achievable despite the usual types freaking out over a defeat at Liverpool. Just to ease some of you into it so you don’t lose your shit but other grounds we are likely to lose at this season City (definitely) Spurs and United (Possibly). Might be one or two more but those specifically are generally speaking tough/gimmes in relation to us

  18. vickingz

Emery is honestly not trying and I keep wondering what he did all through the week planning for that mess last night. Having a game plan is one thing, having the resources to execute it is another and if these 2 don’t dovetail nicely, then it’s an accident waiting to happen scenario. Every baiscs he’s ignoring has been dissected here over and over again. If you are going to play zhaka solely because of his long passes which could serve as an advantage, then set up your team to his strength. There’s no player without his strengths and weaknesses. Imagine playing zhaka in a formation that confines us and choke us up even without opponents charging at us for every ball and you expect zhaka to have the TIME AND SPACE for long passes? Most of the game got played in our half and only luiz sent out a long pass or so, why use zhaka? He didn’t perform too badly but he offered nothing and this same goes for ceba, willock, these guys were wrongly used by emery.

And this is becoming emery’s philosophy to me. Seems whatever he had with laca hasn’t been settled and laca has been professional so far.

  19. Guns of Hackney

Has emery still got a job?

    If so, why?

That was terrible. Test failed. Badly.

This is his team now. No better than under Wenger and as I said yesterday, Wenger wouldn’t have lost yesterday.

Emery out. This team IS better than this.

  20. Gentlebris

‘Top 4 is the goal and it’s still achievable despite the usual types freaking out over a defeat at Liverpool. Just to ease some of you into it so you don’t lose your shit but other grounds we are likely to lose at this season City (definitely) Spurs and United (Possibly). Might be one or two more but those specifically are generally speaking tough/gimmes in relation to us’

Marko, this is not about losing. This is about playing like a group of chicken scared shitless. Emery forced a great team to play like a scared league one side.

  21. vickingz

What a disappointment yesterday was, Emery did exactly what I had feared and for me this man is now on borrowed time. If I had one message that I could get through to him is keep it simple stupid, formation WRONG, Xhaka playing WRONG, tactics at fortress Anfield WRONG.

@ UTarse, it’s all reasonable people have been saying about emery “KISS KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID” But he’s just trying to overdo what’s not necessary. Get the basics perfectly embedded in your game plan and formation, shikena.

  22. vickingz

@ gentlebris, I’d rather go for allegri, jose can’t instill discipline in players, he’s really not that good in man management and he doesn’t have a thick skin.

  23. Marko

I’m not so sure about that Guns Wengers last two games at Liverpool ended up losing 4-0 and 3-1. Haven’t won at Liverpool since 2012 lost the next season 5-1. Different kettle of fish these days

  24. Gentlebris

‘And this is becoming emery’s philosophy to me. Seems whatever he had with laca hasn’t been settled and laca has been professional so far.’

Well Laca will still be here next season, Emery most definitely not.

Someone raised a valid point here and it made me think: how could you win the EL three times in a row when winning the EL qualified you for CL?
Simple: no ability to stay in the CL!

Now our ambition is making CL and staying there, so what the freaking fuck are we doing with Emery anyway?

  25. UTarse

Vikingz, I have IMO given emery a decent shot at proving he can be our future after inheriting a cluster fuck as Arsenal was post wenger.

Frankly at best he’s at C+ and for me we are worthy of so much more. His tinkering is almost obsessional as he ends up outwitting himself even !

Someone on here said he would manage Barca or Real one day, that would be hilarious, he just doesn’t have elite manager arrogance for me and without that, you can’t manage elite clubs..

  26. Rhys Jaggar

Suggest all the Einsteins on here go read the following:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016–17_Liverpool_F.C._season

Klopp’s second season. Scraped 4th in the EPL by 1 pt. Reached EFL cup semi final (lost to Southampton). Lost in FA Cup 4th round at home to Wolves. No European distractions. They were too useless the previous season…..

    Here are some highlights:
    Burnley 2 Liverpool 0; Bournemouth 4 Liverpool 3; Sunderland 2 Liverpool 2; Liverpool 2 West Ham 2; Leicester 3 Liverpool 1; Liverpool 2 Swansea 3; Liverpool 2 Bournemouth 2; Liverpool 1 Crystal Palace 2.

Frothing Grovers exploding from that lot, eh?

    Now look at the squad:

    GK: Karius, Mignolet. Comments?

Defenders: Clyne, Lovren, Milner, Gomez, Klavan, Moreno, Matip, TAA, Randall – a bit short, eh?

Midfield: Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Henderson, Lallana, Lucas, Can, Stewart plus 4 U21s. Not too scary, eh?

Strikers: Firmino, Mane, Sturridge, Origi, Ings, Woodburn. Good but not the best in Europe.

So the first basic lesson of football is that a manager who won the German double, another league title and reached a UCL final is only as good as the squad he can work with.

Oh and the second lesson is that if you buy him Mo Salah, VVD, Allison, Keita, AOC, Shaqiri, Fabinho and take a punt on Andy Robertson, he may do a little better. Even after selling Coutinho to Barcelona.

So before you all say Emery is shit, why not say Klopp was shit three years ago and a proper manager should have been brought in to replace him?

So buy Emery a world class keeper, Central Defender, three midfielders before saying he should be a title challenger.

It is what Klopp needed after all.

And everyone here says what a superior manager he is…..now.

Were you saying that when he shipped four at Bournemouth? Losing at home to Palace and Swansea? Conceding two at home to both West Ham and Bournemouth?

    Well, were you?

    Course you weren’t.

You were saying what a pile of Looserpool bindipping shit he was…..

  27. Guns of Hackney

I know Wenger lost it and lost it badly but he could galvanise a side to pull off the spectacular sometimes. I also think that he wouldn’t have shit his pants like Emery did.

Emery is just so boring. So so boring.

He is very out of his depth and we have to move forward on the appointment or the talent we do have, will up and leave.

  28. Gentlebris

‘@ gentlebris, I’d rather go for allegri, jose can’t instill discipline in players, he’s really not that good in man management and he doesn’t have a thick skin.’

Allegri over Jose every day of the week but doubt if he would be keen to come. He just left Juve, guys like that are likely to be dreaming of Real, Bayern, Barca.
Jose on the other hand has lost some ground and would be more than happy to take a job at Arsenal.
And I know he’s desperate to prove he’s still a top man and some of his arrogance looks shaken off.

  29. Marko

Someone raised a valid point here and it made me think: how could you win the EL three times in a row when winning the EL qualified you for CL?
Simple: no ability to stay in the CL!

That only came into effect in the 14/15 season and by that time he’d already won two Europa League’s on the spin. For the third one Sevilla finished third in their group behind City and Juve.

  30. bob

it’s still very early in the season, arsenal should sack Emery now and use the international break to find a good replacement manager.

  31. Jamie

Wenger 2 wins in 25 games against the top 4.

Article from his last season in charge:

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/03/31/two-wins-25-full-horror-arsene-wengers-record-against-main-premier/

Wenger was toilet when it mattered. Let’s not pretend losing to the European champions in their house is anything new under Emery.

We’ve been flat-track bullies for 10 years and counting. Things don’t seem to be improving markedly under Emery, but they aren’t any worse. At least now, replacing the head coach is academic if/when his KPIs aren’t met.

We’ll lose 10 games this season. 1 down, 9 to go.

  32. Marko

I know Wenger lost it and lost it badly but he could galvanise a side to pull off the spectacular sometimes. I also think that he wouldn’t have shit his pants like Emery did.

Guns kindly fuck off will you you’re talking shite as per

  33. Gentlebris

”So before you all say Emery is shit, why not say Klopp was shit three years ago and a proper manager should have been brought in to replace him?’

Klopp never went anywhere with his head buried in the sand, and Emery had all the materials at PSG and what did he do with them?

  34. Marko

Gentle there’s this thing called Google…use it once in a while. Even Wikipedia give that a try see what comes up

  35. Nelson

Someone should tell Emery straight in the face: Xhaka is prone to ball watching when defending. As a defensive midfielder, he should never let Fermino unchallenged in front of the box and then passed the ball to Salah for the 2nd goal. Torr would have done a much better job.

  36. Wenker-wanger

I’d take emery on his worst day than any post 2009 Wenger. Liverpool are EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS….in the prime of their current form. A fabulous team of great players. Arsenal and Emery,?….difficult to criticise although working against the press by playing out from the back every time became easy meat for Liverpool.long balls out would have been a better option.
Sure we lost but aside from Manchester city, would any team had come close?
Before throwing toys out of the pram with the absurd emery out moan, let’s see how this season pans out…..if we fail to improve our points tally from last season by at least 8:points, then yes he will be negatively judged as he has better players .
A word on Pepe….. I think he has great skill at speed and looks to be very dangerous ….however I’m looking at a predominately one footed player and in front of goal with the ball on his right side I see missed chances.
But hey he is great to watch..

  37. Gentlebris

‘That only came into effect in the 14/15 season and by that time he’d already won two Europa League’s on the spin. For the third one Sevilla finished third in their group behind City and Juve.’

And I take it that Emery wasn’t handed the right to qualify for the CL through his domestic league before 2014/15 as well?

  38. Guns of Hackney

    Chill out, Marko.

Emery is garbage and Wikipedia can’t save him. Sure he’s won trophies…great. But his football is sleep inducing. His tactics are as bad as Wenger’s ever were. He can’t handle big players. I still don’t know what the hell his pitch was to secure the Arsenal job?

No sauce. No pizazz. His football is the manifestation of dull.

I’m not the only one who thinks that Emery is not big enough for this job.

  39. Ishola70

    Nelson

“As a defensive midfielder, he should never let Fermino unchallenged in front of the box and then passed the ball to Salah for the 2nd goal. Torr would have done a much better job.”

Well he’s not a DM is he that’s the thing. He’s a DLP so these sort of things are going to happen.

Arsenal have decided for the last four years to have a DLP at the base of the midfield.

Jorginho was suspect off the ball yet again away to Norwich yesterday for Chelsea. Losing out in challenges, slow off the ball. Another DLP.

  40. vickingz

@ rhys jaggar, you think people are just suddenly slating emery? You know why Liverpool fans still supported klopp despite his “shortcomings”? Because it was obvious what klopp was turning Liverpool into, every fan saw it, club’s hierarchy saw it. Lemme ask you, what’s emery turning us into? What’s so obvious about emery’s ball? Klopp never shy away from his gengepress, he worked around it but emery’a forever changing, so amoebaic. That’s why we are where are with emery. Play a pattern today, another pattern next week, another formation upper week

  41. Gentlebris

‘Gentle there’s this thing called Google…use it once in a while. Even Wikipedia give that a try see what comes up’

Yeah Marko I use Google too you know just not about digging into Europa league/Emery’s history.
I always have other pressing things on my table demanding some help from Google.
But you of course hide under the table at the post office and Google your way to glory.

  42. G8

Changing the coach now would be stupid, there is s lot of work going on behind the scene, Emery won’t last if he fails to achieve his target which is CL football.
    We are in transition..
It’s going to be ups and downs this season
We will know if we are on track or not comes Xmas.
Winning games is the most important thing now, philosophy or style is secondary!

  43. Guns of Hackney

    433

That’s the formation. Stick to it. We have £190m of forwards and we should use them. Bring back Ozil. He’s a twat but a talented twat. Give the front three the bullets and we will score goals.

Bring in Chambers for Monreal until Tierney is fit. Holding back soon, as will Bellerin. I would even think about playing Luiz as the libero.

    So maybe a 1333.

Yes. This will work. I’ve seen it in the tea leaves.

  44. Marko

And I take it that Emery wasn’t handed the right to qualify for the CL through his domestic league before 2014/15 as well?

Oh no he was but I was specifically pointing out that you were wrong when you were talking about him getting into the Champions League through winning the Europa League 3 times. I dunno if you knew you were wrong or not or were purposefully misleading but I thought I’d correct you.

Do you need me to tell you what Emery did at PSG or can you find out that for yourself?

  45. Receding Hairline

Gentle says we should go for Jose, he has been following him and thinks he has learnt some humility. I shudder to think what the posts will look like if we lost to a team we should be beating.

Emery made a great team play like a league 1 team?? Another priceless one. Arsenal haven’t won away to a top six side since 2015, greatness personified

  46. Marko

But you of course hide under the table at the post office and Google your way to glory.

Brilliant. I love it when you idiots get caught out in a spot of bullshit and resort to stuff about a post office. It’s a good way to win an argument.

Still don’t work in a post office though

  47. Gentlebris

Spuds next at home, hope the fucker comes down from his ‘ tactical’ high horse and play a regular and decent game of football.

  48. Un na naai

    Marko

Valiantly attempting to defend emery’s latest humiliation.

    Chelsea 4-1
    Liverpool 5-1
Liverpool 3-1 ( should have been more)
    Rennes 3-1
    Wolves 3-0
    Leicester 3-0
    Palace 3-2
    Southampton 3-2
    United 3-1
    West Ham 1-0
    Bate Borisov 1-0
    Everton 1-0
    Brighton 1-1 TWICE

some record that in little over a year in charge and £200m spent on a team that finished 2 points from the champions league finalists and 3rd in prem

  49. Bob N16

433 sure Guns but Chambers instead of Monreal is a bizarre selection choice. Chambers didn’t excel at RB a couple of seasons ago, add to that you’re asking him to play on the left.

  50. Words on a Blog

Yesterday against Liverpool, Emery had a game-plan.

Narrow, crowd the midfield, deny space to the front 3, absorb pressure and let Trent AA and Andy Robertson and cross if they want to. Use Auba and Pepe down the channels to counterattack.

The game plan and personnel specifically took into account Liverpool’s dominance at home and the way Firmino/Mane/Salah destroyed us last season. It didn’t work.

Next week at home against Spurs there will be another game plan, and it will look very different.

Emery’s “philosophy”? Reactive tactical flexibility: focus on the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent, and select your personnel and formation accordingly.

Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Get used to it. With the squad now at his disposal, not to mention Man U and Chelsea’s weaknesses this season, he’s very likely to get Top 4.

  51. Chika

Beyond the recent result or whatever, there’s ample evidence that reinforces the fact that Emery is timid, bland and uninspiring and that’s exactly the crux of the matter.

  52. Wenker-wanger

Where’s your fcking hero Wenger managing now?
If that useless egotistical chug was so good, wouldn’t he have been snapped up?
The question lies in the situation reality. He isn’t wanted by any club that has some pedigree…
People that believe in Wenger believe in holy water from the tap!

Win or lose, I want we play like a top 6 team today. We should continue to develop the team chemistry and the team identity. We should not go into panic mode even if we lose. We have to prepare the team to win next week’s game.
    ———————————————————————————–

That’s what I wrote before the game. We have wasted the opportunity to improve the team. What did the players learn from last game? Playing from the back and fast countering don’t belong in any playbook.

  54. vickingz

Chambers for monreal ain’t ever gonna work, chamber’s fragile confidence would be torn to pieces should that happen

  55. Words on a Blog

    Gentlebris,

    Sorry, no to Mourinho.

He has less humility than Donald Trump or Kim Jung Un, and is more toxic than the pair of them.

  56. Wenker-wanger

The game v spurs will give a more accurate depiction of where we are at. I see spurs as about the same as us in terms of quality. So if we get outplayed and lose by 2…then ok emery needs to be scrutinized.
What if we beat them 4-2 as last season?..does emery get any praise?
Let’s see..and let’s all be back on here to face our own critics….after all many of us have strong opinions on emery.

  57. Receding Hairline

Regular and decent game of football…lol

Football is a tactical game and no one embodies that more than Jose Mourinho. If you think Jose will attack Liverpool at Anfield then you have been living under a rock.

I guess all this nonsense stems from a delusion we have a front three in Lacazette, Pepe and Aubameyang to match Liverpools front three….silly. Liverpools front three are in their third season playing together, infact they are so strong as a team they signed no one.

  58. Marko

What certain people need to realize is that if Emery is going it won’t be until the end of the season. Not after every defeat and certainly not after a defeat at Anfield. So the kicking up the skirts screaming to the heavens routine is utterly pointless. He’s not going to be sacked.

  59. HighburyLegend

Don’t get me wrong, if Emery fail this season, I really hope he will be sacked next summer…

But what I find a bit annoying is the fact that many fans don’t realise that we lost at Anfield, against the next PL champions – or at least they will finish 2nd.

You guys really needs to wake the fuck up….

  60. Gentlebris

‘Emery made a great team play like a league 1 team?? Another priceless one. Arsenal haven’t won away to a top six side since 2015, greatness personified’

Well maybe you have not noticed, but Girould no longer top strikes for us, we have brought in two strikers who were top top elite in their former stations. In addition we have brought in a very good goalie, a pair of good young guys in the middle and we have spent some money on the defence. And there is a certain well demanded Pépé, we got that one too.
So Sir we can put in a claim that we now have a great team and we should be blowing teams away these days, not playing like scared little rabbits.
Shit….it wasn’t even a decent match yesterday, nothing to suggest two top six teams were playing. Did you see Spuds at City?

  61. Guns of Hackney

    Bob

We have to try something different. Monreal is 34 and on the way out. Chambers isn’t great but he could excel…we have to try something. Our defence is so poor. AMN is crap. Bring in Kolo FFS. He’s a unit and loves mixing it with knife wielding kids on scooters.

Emery is proving to be a post decline Wenger. Unmovable in his belief that he is right. He’s wrong.

Pepe looked good albeit a bit spooked. Auba is fine against the fodder and Laca is a trier. They should score a few though.

  62. Chika

    Vickingz

    Apparently.

There are certain types who are willing to take bullets for Emery, he’s infallible in their eyes. I Can’t wait for him to fuck off, tired of watching him under utilize our squad.

  63. vickingz

But what I find a bit annoying is the fact that many fans don’t realise that we lost at Anfield, against the next PL champions – or at least they will finish 2nd.You guys really needs to wake the fuck up….

What does this even mean? If this is the mentality, it’s safe to say we should be happy we lost to the next PL champions. Yeah, we are happy

  64. Guns of Hackney

Did cabellos even play yesterday? Honest question as I was in and out on the game.

If he did…wow! He didn’t exactly light it up.

  65. Guns of Hackney

To be honest, I was happy we only lost 10-2 to Bayern. It could have been 23-2 if Bayern has carried on trying.

    Happy to lose. Jesus!!!

  66. HighburyLegend

@Vikingzofgamesofthrones : sorry, didn’t know that we were supposed to win the PL this season. Jokehead….

  67. Ishola70

    Gentle

” Did you see Spuds at City?”

Yes they got over-run at City. Most undersrving draw ever witnessed.

    Next.

  68. HighburyLegend

And at 0-3 we continued to play and fight, which is also a good sign of progress, whether you like it or not.

  69. Gentlebris

‘Football is a tactical game and no one embodies that more than Jose Mourinho. If you think Jose will attack Liverpool at Anfield then you have been living under a rock.’

At least Jose would know what he does. He has been doing whatever he does winning titles and CLs with it.

This shit of a coach went against Chelsea in EL final pressing high leaving his back exposed, he got beat 4-1.
Yesterday he wouldn’t step a foot out, he got beat 3-1.

Can’t you see Emery is a pretender trying tactics he knows nothing about?

  70. Un na naai

I’m not sure yesterday was a humiliation.

    Marko
Reeeeeeeaaally!? Well maybe you need a little longer to ponder.

  71. Marko

Liverpool have scored 250 goals the last two seasons without losing a home game. So perspective is needed.

FYI City slightly less formidable at home the last two seasons with defeats at home to United and Palace. But they have had consecutive record setting points totals and scored 312 goals so there’s that. Basically don’t be shocked if we lose at City this season as well.

  72. vickingz

AMN has consistently been making same mistakes week in week out, year in year out, can’t just make a simple “control and pass”, once he’s faced with an opponent, just know that we are in trouble. A coach sees this week in week out, yet take no time out with this kid to thrash out this aspect of his game, Auba can’t pass too, his control is secondary school player-like, can’t dribble, can’t run diagonally and fire shots. What then do they do at their training ground? If our coaches are seeing aspects of individual’s game that need to be upped and they ain’t fixing it, I don’t want this kinda coach here. Arteta & Freddie L please

  73. Ishola70

AMN was back to being a twat again yesterday.

This after his play at Newcastle to set up the winning goal.

Misplacing simple run of the mill passes.

  74. Gentlebris

‘Yes they got over-run at City. Most undersrving draw ever witnessed.’

You didn’t see the game then.

They fought for possession every minute of the game, trying to impose themselves on City.
It wasn’t easy but they attempted it boldly and left there with an equal share.

  75. TT

Lot of anger on here to day. I know we lost yesterday but I for one take a lot of positives from the game. This is a team that has had very little time to meld together unlike Liverpool which showed yesterday. Especially in the more crisp passing and attacking.

Apart from couple of mistakes in defense we did not defend badly and with a bit of luck could have been 2 nil up.

  76. Guns of Hackney

“What then do they do at their training ground?”

    Take selfies
    Bum each other
    Practice celebration routines
    Walk around looking at smartphones
    Playing PS2
    Stretching

It definitely is t practicing football.

  77. vickingz

@ Gentlebris, please don’t kill me with laughter, I nearly got rolling on the floor with your comment.

  78. Un na naai

Marko and receding still moving those goal posts and making out its the result that people are upset with. They know full well yesterday was a shit show with a brand new team and a dull, clueless, mid table level coach.

    1) it was very fortunate that we didnt concede more than 5
    2) the performance and game plan were the significant negatives. Not the result. The result would be bearable had we taken the game to them. Had we showed some signs of anything other than attack vs defence and hoping a long punt to Pepe might yield something.

At least the crazy gang had personality.

  79. Marko

Yeah again I ask where that overconfidence in AMN comes from because he’s honestly rubbish. You would think continually fucking up would bring a guy down but it’s like water off a ducks back to him and on to the next cock up. He’s another Justin Hoyte he’ll spend another year or two here and then drift off to obscurity

  80. Ishola70

    Gentlebris

    Spot on, @TT.

  82. vickingz

@ marko, honestly I don’t know what’s wrong with Amn, there’s an age you get to and you honestly don’t need people tell you what to do, whether or not you are good or babysit you and spoonfeed you. Amn isn’t just trying at all, his make up isn’t of a player who’s gonna make it. He’s too casual, too meh, he’s someone with no ambition whatsoever. I’m just weak

  83. Receding Hairline

I posted a neutral journalist take on the spurs game at City, he called it a pasting. But yea gentle said they fought like warriors because he is upset his team lost as Anfield and his friends will laugh at him. Poor thing. That bit about Emery not knowing tactics is also silly by the way.

  84. vickingz

This is a team that has had very little time to meld together unlike Liverpool which showed yesterday. Especially in the more crisp passing and attacking.

@TT, tell this to lampard’s Chelsea who went toe to toe with this Liverpool side. It’s not about the time joor

  85. Gentlebris

‘Sorry, no to Mourinho. He has less humility than Donald Trump or Kim Jung Un, and is more toxic than the pair of them.’

    WOB,

    I understand.

But for twenty two years we had the most well behaved coach in the game but never won the CL.

Jose can be a first class cunt, but he’s a winner.
Then my point is Jose has lost some of the starch. I would give him a deal for two years and see what happens.

Believe me I have been following him, he’s desperate and a bit more humble.

  88. HighburyLegend

  89. Ishola70

I noticed when The Ox came on AMN was all friendly with him on the pitch giving him a little tap. Nobody else did.

I understand a lot of these players are pals off the pitch but they should keep it competitive and rival like on the pitch.

Then he had that situation at Leicester when he was over polite to Maddison when he got him sent off.

He lacks fire, he lacks intensity does AMN and this is reflected in his sloppy play.

  90. Guns of Hackney

    HL

Just because others will get smashed, doesn’t mean we have to or be okay about it.

Defeat is fine if you give your all and do your best. If that was our best…then it’s sixth or worse this season. We were weak.

Spurs will beat us easily if we play like that.

  91. Un na naai

Ah it’s Amn’s fault again. Got it. Nothing to do with cutting it across our own box instead of the oppositions

Nothing to do with sitting in our own half for 90

Nothing to do with the ponderous diamond

Nothing to do with David Luiz giving away two goals

Nothing to do with leaving lacazette on the bench and rendering Aubameyang useless

It’s Ainsley. Once he’s gone we can beat Liverpool

  92. vickingz

Liverpool playing at home in Anfield and them playing on a neutral ground in Turkey is a different matter.

With Chelsea’s obvious defensive frailties atm they were likely to be well beaten by Liverpool if playing at Anfield.

Still doesn’t seem to have registered with some that Liverpool in their own backyard at Anfield are excellent.

  95. Champagne charlie

“I haven’t forgotten that you were underplaying Liverpool at the start of last season as well before they went on and put on that big points haul in the league and it looks like you are yet again underplaying them.”

I didn’t underrate Liverpool, I said Klopp needs to deliver a title after the expense or its a failure of a season.

I also said Jordan Henderson is a water carrier after you were praising him to high heaven. I then held my hands up and said despite what I think is true about his ability, his mentality and leadership is first class.

    Back on topic….

I’ve said Liverpool are class, learn to read.

What I’ve also said is worse teams will go to Anfield and look better than we did. That’s an indictment on our poor planning. Southampton and Norwich gave better games than we did of their 3 opening games this season.

    Says it all.

Obviously what’s good enough in your book is playing like scared squirrels against Liverpool and leaving there with nothing…..no point and no pride.

    Great you RH.

  98. vickingz

Still doesn’t seem to have registered with some that Liverpool in their own backyard at Anfield are excellent.

And what’s emery marko? A master tactician? Man manager of the century?
He’s the Guendouzi of management. What does he do? What is his style? How does he play the game?

Small team manager somehow given a run at big clubs. Thank Christ his contract is up in May

  107. Gonsterous

Disappointed with the result, but I didn’t see the game. It’s easy to slag off emery but there are some things he couldn’t do. Like drop Auba for Laca when the former has scored in the opening two games. Deny Ceballos a start after his show last weekend.
Only problem I have is, why has he stopped being proactive ? He needed to bring on laca Much earlier and we do have a very lousy bench with the likes of mhiki rotting there.
Should have played with the preferred 433 instead of the 2 upfront. It would have stretched pool more.

  108. Un na naai

Read again, I was talking about them giving Liverpool a better game than we have of the three league games played.

Liverpool had 15 shots against both of those and 25 against us. I think Norwich had 12 shots themselves and Southampton 14. We had 9.

So we’ve offered comparable levels of performance to newly promoted Norwich and Southampton, awesome.

It’s easy to blame emery when we offeredless than the 3 teams Liverpool have played before us yes. We are meant to be one of the best teams in the country yet sat in our own half for 90 mins and let Liverpool play with a makeshift and weak defence

You don’t want to be inviting that pressure on an ancient lb, accident prone centre half and a midfield rookie filling at right back. Not when most of them are suited to going forward.

Not against one of the best attacking teams in the world

  112. Marko

Brilliant. Actually his contract is up the following summer we just have the option of canceling it this summer without a payoff. Hope that helps Don. So far it’s AMN has outperformed him and he’s the Guendouzi of managers. You’re having a Sunday that’s for sure

  113. TR7

All the reservations I had regarding Emery stand even now. His lack of a clear playing style and constant fiddling with tactics and formations means most of our players either do not seem to be sure of their roles or how to execute the manager’s plan. Emery has this bad habit of over thinking tactics, formations and team selection and in the process misses out on doing simple obvious things. We may get slightly better than last season due to new players but it is obvious and more so than ever Emery is not the guy to take us forward.

  114. Gentlebris

‘What then do they do at their training ground? If our coaches are seeing aspects of individual’s game that need to be upped and they ain’t fixing it,’

He just goes there to test his Spanish English.
He doesn’t even know his first team.

    Clueless as fuck.

  115. Marko

Charlie I’m just going to take a swing and a miss here but it sounds to me like a mixture of Liverpool gradually getting better as the season goes along and upping their performance for the first big game of the season to me. By all means scrutinize the fuck out of yesterday’s game as much as you want but it was Liverpool away and we’ve got Spurs next

  116. Valentin

Some people have attached their colour so firmly to Emery’s mast that no matter how poor the tactic, the personnel selection and performance were there would always be mitigating circumstances and somebody else to use as scapegoat.

Last year, he did not have the players. Yesterday it was that he has had enough time with the team.

Today it is AMN’s fault. It does not matter that he had a decent game, the official scapegoat has been found.

Soon it will be Pepe. And the excuse will be I have always thought that he was rubbish anyway. Just a speed merchant.

  117. Champagne charlie

    Marko

Yea that must be it mate, do you bend over that often in your personal life too?

So when the next middling side goes to Anfield and puts in a better show, what’s the excuse? Liverpool dipped in form? Took their foot off the gas?

Arsenal have the players to go to any ground and compete over 90 mins, period. Losing isn’t relevant in these games, it’s approach and performance. Both were flat as a pancake.

  118. Chris

I can understand that some are disappointed with the way the team was set up yesterday, personally I think it was a clear plan but ultimately poorly executed/overwhelmed by Liverpool, and should have been altered as the game progressed.

Nonetheless I think it’s also important not to lose sight of where we are right now. Somebody made a suitable comparison earlier, we are in Liverpool’s position circa 2016/17. They had a goal to achieve CL football. They did it barely, on the final day of that season. Since then they have come on leaps and bounds as they have added to the team with big and smart purchases.

I won’t be judging Emery and the team harshly on losing at Anfield, or Etihad, we need to be getting the results against the rest, and winning at places like Molineux and Goodison (places we slipped up last season) to ensure we get top four. From there hopefully we can emulate the team we played yesterday. I do hope that doesn’t sound too defeatist or in awe, but just pragmatic about where we are.

If we are still stumbling against Palace et al, and miss out on top four, I am sure the change will be made where it needs to be.

  119. Gentlebris

‘He gets it wrong more than he gets it right. Only the quality of the players salvaged anything from last season.’

Doubt if he ever gets it right, anybody could take Auba And Laca to games and still win some.

He had his chance to prove he’s somebody when we had those eight games left last season….but what did he do? He threw CL away at the hands of Palace, Everton, Leicester, Wolves, Brighton.
    What a top top coach.

  120. Marko

  122. Ishola70

    Valentin

Nobody is saying the defeat was AMN’s fault.

All that was said was that AMN misplaced a few too many simple passes in the match and that isn’t good enough.

Never understood why players don’t get called out for an error just because the error doesn’t led to a goal direct from it. Arsenal nearly conceded from an AMN misplaced pass in the match from one of his several misplaced passes.

As for fans nailing their colours to Emery’s mast that is just nonsense talk.

I haven’t seen one fan on here looking like they would cry if Emery is replaced after his current contract runs out. Not one.

  123. Receding Hairline

Silly post Valentin and that’s saying something seeing as 89% of your posts are mostly hot air

There is no Emery mast, never has been never will be. Anyone that thinks Liverpool will approach a game with Norwich with the same attitude as a game with Arsenal hasn’t been watching football for long
