King Raul takes the summer from a 3/10 to an 8/10

by .

Lie back, take out an extra light cigarette attached to one of those extender things, spark up, and ask yourself how good that ride was.

Newsnow, we’ve never gone harder and we’ve never both finished a window satisfied.

Arsenal, I was thinking about you the whole time.

Ok, I am DONE with the sexy talk.

Arsenal capped off a mental window with a mad trolley dash for David Luiz (hopefully) and Kieran Tierney.

Tierney gives us outrageous pace and delivery on the left. He can defend. He has played in an invincible side. He is the full package. Celtic fans are devastated because he matters and they know he’s worth more than we paid for him.

I loved this from the .com.

I was actually down the park with my friends training. They play with their local team so I was down watching them and I got a phone call that I needed to go. I got to the airport and the flight was delayed two-and-a-half hours, with another hour’s drive for a hotel and I probably got zero sleep, so I was back up at half five today.

David Luiz is a real fence sitter.

Is he better than what we have? Absolutely.

Does his ability to play out of the back change the dynamic of our play and reduce the onus on Xhaka? Absolutely.

Has he won trophies everywhere? Yes.

Can he score against us and torment us this season? No.

He’s an up and down player. He has errors in him. But he can do more of the things Emery needs of him than Mustafi.

He’s also a bit of a c*nt.

What I’m saying is this… don’t turn your nose up at someone that isn’t Mustafi. I’d hire you mum if the chance arose. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that one of these last-ditch ‘character’ signings from Chelsea (or anywhere) finally pays off at some point.

Remember, we just need to get through this season… next  year we can go big for someone younger and hopefully Saliba will come back into the fold.

There are also very strong rumours that Iwobi is going to exit the club to Everton for £40m.

Rave-wobi has many positive attributes, but at this level and at his age, you need to be contributing more than sometimes solid dribbling and moving the ball between the lines. He doesn’t give many assists, he doesn’t score many goals, and his ability to strike the ball cleanly seems to a disappeared. He’s just not good enough for where we need to be.

I know the African Grovers will be furious, but it’s true.

A solid pro, and he’ll leave our most expensive ever sale at £40m.

Unreal biz from Raul.

I’ll be back with another blog a little later when everything is fully confirmed.

… but overall, as Matt pointed out earlier, Raul has moved the club further in 2 weeks than Ivan G did in 10 years.

What a great summer. x

Welcome David Luiz

Marko

David Luiz made more through passes than any player in the premier league last season. I can see Pepe loving his balls…yeah you heard me

Left testicle

Tea bagging?

Upstate Gooner

I would say 7/10. It’d be higher if we got another solid CB (not too crazy about Luiz), and shipped Mustafi. But selling Iwobi for 35-40mil has certainly upped my mood today.

Left testicle

Or just a lick? 😉

Thomas

David Luiz banter signing.

fsaf

Congrats brothers. One of the best transfer windows in my time as an Arsenal fan. Job well done to all the people that took part in it. Your effort made us gooners happy!

Steveyg87

Arsenal homepage is down

Left testicle

There’s still time for Mustafi to be sold.

HighburyLegend

“don’t turn your nose up at someone that isn’t Mustafi.”

Lol so true. Well said.

Cesc Appeal

‘Raul has moved the club further in 2 weeks than Ivan G did in 10 years’

Very true.

… and Ozil.

Jamie

Can’t wait for Luiz to push Ozil off the ball when we’re setting up a free kick.

“I’ll hit this one, Mesut. Go play Fortnite or something.”

Marko

Can he score against us and torment us this season? No.

Well I mean technically

Raul has moved the club further in 2 weeks than Ivan G did in 10 years.

Ain’t that the truth

Marc

I fully expect to see Mustafi and Elneny go. Now if we could add Miki to that it’d be something else.

fsaf

I remember Luiz as a good looking lad. What happened?

Leftsidesanch

Ivan really was a useless suit. I can get used to windows like this!

Marc

“Raul has moved the club further in 2 weeks than Ivan G did in 10 years.”

And he’s only warming up.

Cesc Appeal

Luiz will also be a great locker room leader, a great player to have at half time in there when things aren’t exactly going right.

Gunnershabz

I still have a sneaky feeling we might sign Coutinho after we announce Iwobi to Everton

Wishful thinking

New handle for our African gooners:

TearsForIwobi

—————————————-
CheersForPepe makes them happy no??

Or are you talking about some specific African gooners?

rollen

Fuck that was good. Looking forward to football starting soon.
How useless and wasteful were Ivan and Wenger?

Benjamin

If we take 35 mil we got for Iwobi into account, how much have we actually spent?

Dissenter

Pierre
‘Despite Dissenter dissenting about the sale of Iwobi , the signing of Pepe for 72 million and getting 40 odd million in return for Iwobi ,making an outlay of 32 million is a superb piece of business and will improve the team immeasurably.”

Iwobi leaving is good for Iwobi
Iwobi leaving is good for Arsenal. We have his replacements already.
Iwobi leaving is great for the Arsenal academy which finally came of age.
I wish we received offers for the great Mesut Ozil like we did for Iwobi.
Stop making stuff up.

Marko

It’s not going to happen but I would consider Luiz as caption such is the character and such is the lack thereof at Arsenal

Freddie Ljungberg

Another thing the Luiz signing enables is if we don’t want to shell out the bigly cash for someone like Upamecano (we still have CM and CAM to upgrade next summer, probably a backup RB and maybe another winger depending on how our youngsters are coming along) it gives us time to find the next Saliba, this time hopefully without a loan.

Hitman

Flogging Iwobi for £35m – stroke of genius.
Still time to sell /loan Mustafi, Eleny, Miki abroad. And save a packet on wages.

Would keep Ozil – mojo maybe back. Better players to play with. He will make a contribution this year.
Xhaxi and Kola – needed as squaddies like it or not. But they wont be hear next summer.

Dissenter

We have leaders in the team now.
Shame that we can’t make the Cheslea cnut captain

Cesc Appeal

Rollen

The last 6 or 7 years with them was a total waste of time when you look at this. Needless. To think people defended it as if they were in the trenches.

Forwards now.

bob

yes a world cup winner and a champions league winner in arsenals defence now.

Jamie

Shows how absolutely clueless Wenger and Ivan were in recent years. Chasing Chamakh for 2 windows like we were signing the Moroccan Ronaldo. Thank fuck that carry-on is in the past.

Dissenter

We replaced Koschielny with Luiz.
Who would have imagined that.
Luiz took up Koschielny’s wages and cost us about 2 million when you apply Bordeaux’s transfer fee to it.

Great business there. I like to think we weakened Chelsea with this move.

Jamie

Dissenter –

Or net zero when you factor in Jenko’s fee, and cash positive when you factor in Jenko’s saved wages. Great business.

Dissenter

When Josh Kroenke stated that Arsenal fans were going to be excited…is this what he meant?

Elmo

“Raul has moved the club further in 2 weeks than Ivan G did in 10 years.”

Looking at the squad now, especially with Saliba due to arrive next summer and Ozil / Mkhi just having a year left at that point, we’re back to being an attractive proposition for an ambitious manager.

I thought it was going to take a lot longer to turn the corner.

Hitman

AFC behaving like a normal club in the transfer again.

AFC now behaving like big boys. I can hear the fear across Premier League.
We’ve won some games already before stepping on to the pitch. About time. This is why we moved to the Emirates.

Dissenter

How do we get rid of Mykhi?
Ozil…I kind of get because we at least have history with the guy but Mykhi!@#$%^&*(

fsaf

Elmo: I thought it was going to take a lot longer to turn the corner.

Same. I thought the success of this club depends on how soon we move Ozil on and we won’t achieve jack shiet until we do so cause of his insane salary. God bless I they blew me away!

GS88

Yes the excitement is back. That’s why I started supporting this club in the first place, what some 30 plus years ago.

Still a bit to go but that good vibe is returning to the club again.

Seeing the new Arsenal Adidas tops all over London being worn with pride one more.

Can’t wait for Sunday now.

KAY Boss

Iwobi if the deal goes through, is solid business. Some of you value our players like chips. I’m happy he’s gone. Average to good was his performance and not good enough for the club. Iwobi is worth every penny paid. Even Joelinton went for £40m. Iwobi is young, on minimal wages and also an international. He sensed it and made the right decision. Luiz is as better as we deserve.
Raul’s done a great job. Cheerio!

Marko

AFC behaving like a normal club in the transfer again. I mean that’s it. In all honesty the way Arsenal under Wenger approached transfer windows and the market was abnormal it was a complete joke honestly he was so tight fisted and frightened. Now we’re having 5/6 player windows we’re having highly regarded young prospects targeted we have marquee signings like proper marquee signings now. Pepe make no mistake about it he had at least 3-5 clubs vying for his signature and we were able to greese the agents and convince the player to join our project and that’s massive… Read more »

I hope this doesn’t come back to bite me in the arse. But big fkin lol to Manure.

Outs – Romelu Lukaku, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Antonio Valencia

Ins – Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James

Are they going class 92 style?

Anyhow, they gonna start the season with a total of 1 CF in Rashford who didn’t even play CF for them until several months ago. Pure banter.

Marc

You missed out OGS on the outs.

Hang on sorry that won’t be until Christmas

A very undistinguished and frankly immature post from a footballing perspective at least by PedRo But , netherless ,I thank him for it. When that 4th Goal hit our net in Baku 3 months ago- the Incompetent Clowns that we currently have In charge would presumably have had a DEBRIEF on the season just finished The 51 Goals conceded would surely have been analysed – just like The Baku Bashing would have been analysed… The outcome of that Debrief : David Luiz. Yes. David Luiz will sort out our Defence and we will sign him on Deadline Day That’s their… Read more »

Clearly, some of those in the comment section have extraordinarily high expectations and find it difficult to get their heads out of their arses. The business in this window has been absolutely fantastic… Good Old Arsenal!!

Marko

He’s turned on Pedro. Immature…do me a favor with the way you act around here.

Jamie

Oh no! CG is turning on Pedro! Has he even seen Pedro’s calves though? I’ve heard they’re exceptional.

I bet you £1000 we finish better than 10th. You game??

cmon…take the bet!

Receding Hairline

If the club disgusts him do something else that makes you happy

Thomas

Diego Godin would look shit in an Arsenal defence. Imagine David Luiz lol.

alexanderhenry

Pedro

Agreed overall and I’m pleasantly surprised- make that very- with this window.

I’m on board with the David Luiz signing. We’ve invested in the not too distant future with Saliba and we need an experienced stop gap. Why not Luiz?

He played well last season and yes, his speciality is bringing the ball out of defence with pace and intent.
He’s also a bit of a nutter but I think we kind of need a bit of that right now. The team was too ‘nice guy’ passive last season.

HighburyLegend

“I remember Luiz as a good looking lad. What happened ?”
He has been Guendouzirized.

IWOBI is sold for 28m and not 40m according liverpool echo

Jamie

kristoman –

The chat on BBC is £28m initial fee rising to £34m with add-ons. Great money for a player unlikely to make the grade at the top level.

Graham62

CG No disrespect intended but you know this goes far deeper than David Luiz. What would have been your “DEBRIEF” after MU hit the back of our net for the 8th time back on August 28th, 2011? You know, based on the “incompetent clowns” in charge back then. I reckon it went along the lines of- Let’s ignore our frailties and maintain the status quo. What do you think? Don’t forget CG there’s still a fair amount of shite left by your master and his sidekick, that still has to be shovelled out of the club before things start to… Read more »

A NEW BEGINNING. Finally getting the stench of Wenger and Ivan out the door.
Ownership and management have stepped up to the plate, Fair play to them.
WE GOT OUR ARSENAL BACK.

roaaary

Underwhelmed by the luiz signing. Seems we rushed it at the end and ran out of options.
Still better to have him than mustafi. And I’d rather an 8mill gamble on prem experience than chucking 40mill at rugani who frankly looks awkward and terrified (think senderos)
Window was a relative success but outside of pepe I’m not sure we have added immense quality.
Tierney is injured a lot. Ceballos is only interim. Saliba is next year. Martinelli is too raw for this season

Goonah

Really pleased with that window and I reckon there will be a couple more outs this month. The real bonus is that the residual dross left now know that we are no longer a piss about set up where 5/10 performances are fine. They know they have a short time to shape up (some can’t) or else Raul and edu will be saying fuck you very much, there’s the door. Love that.

Freddie Ljungberg

Roaary

Spurs doesn’t have a squad full of overpaid, underperforming players, and they haven’t neglected the transfer market for the last decade.

1 more window like this for us and we are in the position of being able to add 1-3 top quality players in one window instead of having to buy and sell like madmen.

Still, Lo Celso is on loan and Sessegnon is less proven than Tierney so not that impressed with their business, we had a better window if we’re thinking long term.

DaleDaGooner

Glad Iwobi left the abuse he gets here

GS88

Under Wenger we were lied to and taken advantage of for 12 years. Now with this new and dynamic set up at the club, we have that feel for the club again. Its been 15 years since I’ve felt this optimistic about Arsenal going forward. A club of our size shouldn’t have been the laughing stock we became under the previous regime. As some have said recently, could you imagine how things would go if and when we get CL football again — and the calibre of players we would be able to sign. We signed Pepe, David Luiz and… Read more »

BacaryisGod

Good summary, Pedro. I’m torn over Iwobi but with finite resources and great young talent coming through then it’s understandable. Most important as you wrote in your headline is that we turned a depressing summer start into an exciting one. I love the fact that we know where everyone stands heading into the first week of the season. No more watching players like Nasri sneak off after the season has started. The final thing that I had forgotten about is that none of our star players are unsettled. You’ve got Eriksen at Spurs and Pogba at Man U both itching… Read more »

He deserved that abuse. Terrible player.

Mustafi, Elneny and Mhyki simply have to go.

Make no mistake!

“Only worry is if Andy Carroll is on the bench for Newcastle on Monday ”

That won’t be an issue, especially as we’re playing on Sunday.

Goonah

He can’t do anything monday?? timemachine? can he rewrite history in his old days?

Carts

Everton spent 100m

Wolves also spared out. Did the Kessie transfer go through?

Anyhow, 28m for Iwobi is still good business. Maybe we can address an area or two in January ; or keep the powder fully dry till next summer. We get CL football and we’ll have 100m to spend

Marc

Pedro

That could change – will change over the next few weeks.

kristoman

NOBODY I MEAN NOBODY IN WORLD FOOTBALL WILL BYE IWOBI FOR 40M so stop increasing the actual fee. Iwobi fee is 28m + add ons

Marko

Left that video was class. The way Edu and Raul were there to greet him. You can see already how hands on and personal Edu is going to be. Guarantee you that he’ll be at pretty much every home game this season

BacaryisGod

So I think the final business will be Mustafi on loan (no way will someone pay a fee and his salary) and Elneny for a few million.

Can’t see us being able to offload Mikhi.

Let’s not forget that Willock might be a potential breakthrough candidate. He’s looked like he belongs since his Europa final cameo.

R.S.P.C.Arsenal

Marc

That was exactly my thought when I heard he had gone back there.

Cunt always haunts us.

Graham62

13 years of regression and frigging predictable failings and rhetoric and yet, after one year of drastic change and trying to steady the ship, there are still those amongst us who still don’t get it.

I give this TW an 8/10. Based on the fact that a 10/10 would have been based on all the deadwood being shipped out, I’m quite upbeat about it all.

This was not a ” one step at a time scenario”. Far from it.

This was definitely 2 or 3 steps forward.

Graham62

Iwobi, with add ons, £35m.

Marc

RSPC

That wasn’t my comment I was quoting it – more to make the point that we play on Sunday not Monday.
