King Raul takes the summer from a 3/10 to an 8/10

by .

Lie back, take out an extra light cigarette attached to one of those extender things, spark up, and ask yourself how good that ride was.

Newsnow, we’ve never gone harder and we’ve never both finished a window satisfied.

Arsenal, I was thinking about you the whole time.

Ok, I am DONE with the sexy talk.

Arsenal capped off a mental window with a mad trolley dash for David Luiz (hopefully) and Kieran Tierney.

Tierney gives us outrageous pace and delivery on the left. He can defend. He has played in an invincible side. He is the full package. Celtic fans are devastated because he matters and they know he’s worth more than we paid for him.

I loved this from the .com.

I was actually down the park with my friends training. They play with their local team so I was down watching them and I got a phone call that I needed to go. I got to the airport and the flight was delayed two-and-a-half hours, with another hour’s drive for a hotel and I probably got zero sleep, so I was back up at half five today.

David Luiz is a real fence sitter.

Is he better than what we have? Absolutely.

Does his ability to play out of the back change the dynamic of our play and reduce the onus on Xhaka? Absolutely.

Has he won trophies everywhere? Yes.

Can he score against us and torment us this season? No.

He’s an up and down player. He has errors in him. But he can do more of the things Emery needs of him than Mustafi.

He’s also a bit of a c*nt.

What I’m saying is this… don’t turn your nose up at someone that isn’t Mustafi. I’d hire you mum if the chance arose. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that one of these last-ditch ‘character’ signings from Chelsea (or anywhere) finally pays off at some point.

Remember, we just need to get through this season… next  year we can go big for someone younger and hopefully Saliba will come back into the fold.

There are also very strong rumours that Iwobi is going to exit the club to Everton for £40m.

Rave-wobi has many positive attributes, but at this level and at his age, you need to be contributing more than sometimes solid dribbling and moving the ball between the lines. He doesn’t give many assists, he doesn’t score many goals, and his ability to strike the ball cleanly seems to a disappeared. He’s just not good enough for where we need to be.

I know the African Grovers will be furious, but it’s true.

A solid pro, and he’ll leave our most expensive ever sale at £40m.

Unreal biz from Raul.

I’ll be back with another blog a little later when everything is fully confirmed.

… but overall, as Matt pointed out earlier, Raul has moved the club further in 2 weeks than Ivan G did in 10 years.

What a great summer. x

Fellow Gooners, as a South African watching the TW anxiously, I can say confidently, that we have a much better balance of youth and talent, experience, as well as skillful and pacy players. Really excited to see what the boys can deliver on the pitch, especially in them big games, we should focus on dispatching United and Chelsea who continue to rebuilding….Spurs will test us for sure! Hats off to Raul, Edu, Vinai and co, splendid business compared to the shite we’ve experienced globally as Gooners over the last 12 years! Arsenal are primed to do great things this season,… Read more »

Just to put this to bed
Our net spend was £120m this summer. Yes we only used our budget to facilitate the transfers and pay smaller deposits but we’ve brought in £138m worth of talent in one window!!!

Talking about breaking those chains

HighburyLegend

I also hate Sunday BUT I loooooove the SUNDAES!! (sorry)

Guns of Hackney

Fsaf

I still think with the cash we could have perhaps secured him for the next season at least.

HL

Groan.

Un na naai

Tr7

Yes they have
Their midfield and fence were always very string though for me
It’s that lack of attacking options and variety which is their stumbling block. They need to get players in and around their front two who can not only enhance them but assume some goal scoring responsibilities.

Anyway. Fuck spurs. I think we actually look stronger than them squad wise now
We are on for third

Over to emery

Sid

Ozil and xhaka will be reborn, liverpool will get found out top 2 between man c and arsenal, you heard it here 1st. Starr this comment if in doubt

Un na naai

Only villa have a higher net spend than us this summer.

Graham62

What many don’t seem to get on here is that getting Wenger(and IG) out of the club was far more important than who we got in………..FAR MORE IMPORTANT! The changes in our approach to things are now becoming far more evident. The transparency that we craved is now there. Behind the scenes, there have been some monumental changes which has meant that we are now being seen as a progressive club rather than a stagnant “make do” entity. Emery was bought in because he was prepared to accept these changes and be a part of the “process”. Who cares if… Read more »

“Ozil and xhaka will be reborn”

@Sid, are you Pierre in disguise ??

fsaf

I think it’s a toss up between us and Spuds for the 3rd best squad atm.
Their team however is much more gelled than ours and that’s a big deal.

However their quest for another good performance in the UCL compared to our duty in Europa League where we can rest our main players, would give us a bit of edge imo.

“Incomings: £138m (Martinelli, Saliba, Pepe, Tierney, Luiz)

Outgoings: £54.5m (Ospina, Bielik, Asano, Koscielny, Iwobi)

Net spend: £118.5m”

Think their calculator is broken, they also forgot a couple of outgoings like Aemachi and Thompson, and the fee for Bennacer.

Net is more like 80m, with hopefully more sales on the way.

Still, an excellent Window and so refreshing to see as an Arsenal fan.

Pierre

splitting hairs now fred….Net spend is closer to 120 million than 80 million .

Just accept it and we can all move on .

HighburyLegend

@Pierre : Ozil is finished, just accept it and we can all move on.

fsaf I am not suggesting that Ozil will become the new messiah. His recent form over last two years has been abject and I am well aware that he is not mentally that strong. However… Ozil is an exceptional footballer when he played well. He won several times the player of the year award in Germany when their National Team was probably the best and despite the politics at Real Madrid he was highly rated by his Galatico Peers including Ronaldo whilst at that club. He is a 30 year old midfielder who is not prone to injuries [apart from… Read more »

2-2 score prediction Sunday

Valentin

Looks like some of the newspapers (maybe deliberately) confuse net spend and total spend.

Total spend is £138 millions.
Net spend should be about £80 millions.

However those reporting it as high as £118 millions may include agents fees and add-ons. For example Pepe transfer is often quoted as €80 millions without the €10 millions add-ons and the alledged €12 millions agent fee that Arsenal agreed to pay.

HighburyLegend

@UTarse : 2-4.

Valentin

I am not sure whether Steve Bruce has ever been able to shut down Arsenal. So he may decide that attack is the best form of defense.
Arsenal victory 3-2.

Guns of Hackney

Newcastle 8 Arsenal 2

Freddie Ljungberg

Pierre

Even in your addled mind 138 minus 60 isn’t 120 surely?

Valentin

That article clearly states that it’s including add ons. Agent fees are never included so why should they be now and they don’t mention it at all.

35 million for Iwobi works for me. Like some others have said, with proper coaching and used the right way, Iwobi could be a very good player. He could actually kick on a level at Everton. As long as he doesn’t come back to bite us I wish him well. In Luiz we have a player who knows the league, has been there and done it, has more technical ability than what we have and will turn in more reliable performances than Mustafi. With Sokratis, Luiz, Holding and Chambers we might just have enough to get by this season, with… Read more »

Folk actually believe Arsenal can finish In the top 4 with this: Clown in charge This ageing, slow creaky and indisciplined defence And a team consisting of ONLY 2 orthodox centre forwards ( One of them already injured- Laca) By the way -Are they in playing every game? The team is slow and lethargic-barring the front 3. How bloody slow is our midfield? Xhaka,Ozil,Tor,Cebollas, Genduzi,Mikki ( no athleticism whatsoever except Willock) The back end results from last season were horrific- three goal hammerings were common place. And all we have added is Louise…. Sok is now older Mustafis confidence more… Read more »

Guns, is that with 5 for Andy Carroll, 4 of them from corners?

Guns of Hackney

Insideright

All Carroll. 2 x perfect hat tricks and 2 overhead kicks direct from corners each 35 yards out. Our two, own goals.

fsaf

Carroll is weeks away from being fit to play btw. Just saying lol.

InsideRight

It’s about time he won a golden boot.

HighburyLegend

@GoH : it’s Newcastle, not Manure.

Guns of Hackney

Carroll doesn’t need fitness. He’s Andy fucking Carroll!

He made ponytails cool again.

TitsMcGee

Very good window all things considered. I’d daresay that it’s the “smartest” window we’ve had in decades(I’d say ever but I am not that old).

Luiz is up and down but he’s experienced and better than Mustafi. Pepe was an excellent signing and Tierney has potential.

This added to Lacazette and Auba and I think we should be exciting to watch at the least 😉

Guns of Hackney

Cheryl Cole might get a goal.

TitsMcGee

Oh and we got ~35 million for Alex freaking Iwobi. We are winners after this TW(for a change).

Emiratesstroller

GOH

Carroll will not be playing against us if you listened to his post transfer interview.
He has been only doing sofar running in training and does not expect to be match fit for a few weeks.

Guns of Hackney

ES

As I said, he’s Andy fucking Carroll.

Scores from the bench, treatment table or space. It doesn’t matter.

Bob N16

Carroll and match fit in the same sentence…?

CG

As for the Iwobi transaction. What was the point of sanctioning it seconds before the window shut- so not having time to get a replacement. By all means – sell him the day before- so you could get an upgrade in. We have basically sabotaged ourselves – With a loss of a player. And What is The Clowns Loosers Cup strategy.? Is he playing PEA/Laca and Pepe in the away games? If he doesn’t- who is playing up front? Why the hell did he let little Eddie go? He scored in his last Arsenal league match. There is no longer a requirement for him to run around the pitch like a donkey, which he is not suited to doing.” Couldn’t have put it better myself unsurprisingly.. However , I can’t see that happening under the present manager unless he has a change in his philosophy. Ozil isn’t blameless for creating so little of course but there has been a fundamental change in how he is used under Emery compared to his time at Real Madrid and under Wenger. Previously… Read more »

“If he doesn’t impress the manager”

Yes but he will continue to impress you, and that’s all that really matters.

Guns of Hackney

I don’t see an issue this year with Ozil. With the three up front and Cabellos, Ozil might find himself back amongst the supply.

Not my favourite by a long way but our best assister by miles.

If emery is brave and plays three up front, we should score lots.

Dissenter

Emirates ‘That should leave Ozil to do what he does best and that is “create” and “assist”. There is no longer a requirement for him to run around the pitch like a donkey, which he is not suited to doing’ That’s not part of modern football. All the creators at City and Liverpool drop down to defend and put in tackles Emery is not going to treat Ozil any differently, you ought to know that by now. If Ozil does not shape up, he can enjoy the rest of his wages on the bench. No one is going to be… Read more »

The whole culture of the club is being overrun and at some point there must be a tipping point when those feckless bottom feeders and generally trash players will be severely outnumbered by the motivated achievers and at that point they’ll either need to adapt to survive or their bs will be even more on display and under the spotlight before they get binned off too.Good fucking riddance to the wenger era. His replacements are already in the club and benefitted from a good preseason.

Dissenter

The movement to treat Ozil differently has started again. Ozil was surrounded by two top strikers last season and did fcuk not. This season, he has a decent central midfielder behind him and three top attacking players around him yet he still has to be treated like a “special player” Guess what, he’s not the only special player in the club. Everyone else have to defend…and so does he. Can’t wait for him to finish this ridiculous contract and fcuk off. Arsenal received better offers for Iwobi that Ozil. Not to say Iwobi is the better player but just shows… Read more »

With Lacazette maybe still injured or not risked, I wonder if we are going to see a front four of Aubameyang, Özil, Nelson and Mhikitarian. I would rather take Özil behind Aubameyang with Nelson and Martinelli on the wings.
Pepe having just one week of training with the team, I expect him to start on the bench and be involved later on.

InsideRight

Great to hear Holding is back in full training. He was showing so much promise and really growing into the role when he got injured. We are going to need him sooner rather than later with Sokratis liable to pick up 25 yellow cards in the first two weeks….

Crimson

CG has a bleeding contaminous vagina.

Eduardo

With no CL to distract us I think we should beat Spurs to third this season. If we are lucky with injuries, we may even have the legs to push Liverpool for second, although that remains unlikely.

Also think we will win a trophy this season, most likely the Europa League.

It’s almost certain that we will be back in the CL next season.

Eduardo

We got double what Iwobi was worth – great business. Selling him also means that Nelson and Martinelli will get more game time as back-ups on the left wing. Both have a higher ceiling than Iwobi, and after a season of being integrated in the squad we should see the value of both players rising to £20-30 million plus. It is amazing we have been able to do such good business while still having £30 million + per year tied up in wages for the useless Ozil, Mkhi and Mustafi. It feels great to see the club being run properly… Read more »

Karim makes a good point. In teams you get tipping points and it looks like it’s now in favour of the new boys and perhaps those who through injury or previous team cohesion have been blocked. Really down to Unai now because he had to grab that opportunity during the small window when it’s at its greatest. If we start reading about dissent in the squad around Xmas I’d say he’s doomed. If he gets the first team pumping then it’s no place for old men ( Luiz exception ) and the old Wenger Boys will be consigned to history… Read more »
