Spaniard lands, more to follow in ‘big week’

by .

Arsenal made their first starting 11 signing of the summer. Dani Cabellos has landed with us for a one-season loan stint. The Spanish technician doesn’t come with a right to buy, which is a shame, but be real people… we’d probably offer £52.50 a year over the next 40 years and try and sweeten it with a small goat with wheels for back legs.

Key message for me is that we finally did a deal.

Big Dave Ornstein reckons this is a going to be a significant week for the club, with Saliba also in the hopper.

There are rumours that Palace won’t budge for Zaha and Celtic are planning on holding onto Tierney because too much of the deal is tied to Champions League, something their people think might be out of our reach.

It’s a bit disappointing we’re doing so badly on the Tierney front, likely because they don’t want to feel like we marched them through the playground with no trousers on (the dream analogy) like Southampton did with VVD. Hopefully, there’s a fallback deal we can chase down.

Zaha seems different to me because he’s older and he needs to move now. Palace is technically in a position to play hardball (5 year deal), but at the same time, they desperately need to strengthen their backline, and as we’re seeing the world over… clubs don’t want to hold onto players that’ll shit-post at their club and sulk all season.

I don’t know Zaha, but he looks a big character, and the fact he’s their best player means they look to him for more than just football… when you sit in 12th place, only 10 points splits you from 16th. Any disruption can be critical to survival… and if they have to sell him when they’ve been relegated, they’ll not be getting £55m and Reiss Nelson.

Big clubs generally don’t fuck around with players that don’t want to be there, a unified culture is far too important.

Cesc, Nasri, Song, and RVP were all let go in the end because the cost of the keeping them wasn’t worth the aggro. PSG will bomb off Neymar. Ajax won’t keep any of their youth products against their will. Atleti said goodbye to AG.

In other news, one signing we can get behind is the MIGHTY Camden Hells being our beer partner moving forward. No more piss water people, proper beer, locally sourced and tasty. That’ll make being 1-0 down at halftime feel a smidgen better!

There are 17 days left before the transfer window shuts, and it’s hard to see how we’ll really have moved the squad forward. The biggest concern for me is that even if we bring in all the players this week, the talent won’t have had a full preseason with us, and if we have to pick players up from other countries, we need these folk to hit the ground running. Coming in from Spain or Scotland… well, let’s just say that’s a huge ask.

It’s also looking ever more likely that we’ll be rolling hard with all the players we want gone, unless there are some predators lurking in the shadows waiting with a seriously lowball bid to see how desperate we’ll be (please god say there are clubs waiting to pounce).

We’re already seeing that with Laurent K. He’s done his deal with the French clubs, regardless of what his agent says… the financials are clearly geared around a low fee.

If you think Mustafi and a few of the others aren’t thinking the same thing, you are NAIVE. Or less conspiratorial than I am. The last week could be very Harry Redknapp, because that’s the way to supposed contacts method of scouting works.

I did think it was amusing in the comments section the other day when people were arguing that contacts scouting is good because, you know, you have to make contact to buy. To those who think that way, let’s be real here, if this is what contacts scouting looks like, it’s pretty fucking dire. No system in the world should wait for agents to offer players. We should be proactive, we should attack our targets and we should have sufficient data knowledge that we’re doing it before other clubs (ala, Dortmund).

Let’s hope Edu nips that nonsense in the bud and guns for the smartest approach to finding new talent.

Finally, I wanted to write this because there’s just too much wokeness going on about Rapinoe and that Bellerin picture.

Facts of life, there are cunts on the internet. You can’t put a picture of a disabled kid on the internet without some lowlife making depraved comments. People are cunts, unfortunately, the internet grows them like mushrooms. We’re not changing that.

However, this Rapinoe furore is so beyond the pale and the ‘why’ around it is such nonsense.

She’s one of the best female footballers in the world. She said she’d do something epic. She delivered on it. She is supremely arrogant. That is her schtick.

‘Men don’t like her because they can’t fuck her and they are threatened’

Why do we have to lower the argument to this because it’s a woman?

Maybe Rapinoe is a fucking PR genius playing the game like an absolute pro? Can we not salute her game? Can we not give a woman credit for doing a damn fine job raising her profile?

We do when it’s a man. Kap, McGregor, Ali, Ibra… the greatest, Floyd Mayweather. In fact, Floyd accused Connor of stealing a black man’s game by shit-talking so the haters would pay to see him lose.

That’s Rapinoe. Fair play to her. This isn’t to do with sex. Toxic masculinity. Some other woke trope.

This is to do with an arrogant sporting talent actually delivering. Can’t we just let a woman have that? Isn’t making her out to be a victim over a protagonist worse? I think so. She’s got game, she knows how to work a crowd and she’s raising the profile of the women’s game like no other. She’ll be rolling in cash this season. Women’s football will feel her halo effect. More clubs will get sponsors. More fans will go to see her. Everyone wins because @JoeMushroomPants wants to talk shit and keep the conversation going.

I applaud the player for having game. Great work.

Right, that’s me done. x

Yea clubs don’t sound out targets before June, we’ve heard your hot take on transfers. It’s just a bit dim is all.

Absolutely nothing stopping us having added 2 first team players to the here and now. Nothing. You can continue to draw up this scenario of savvy negotiating but it’s fruits are there for all to see, July 24th and sweating over a season long loan and 18 year old bought for next season.

Overhaul that is, turned right upside down.

  2. Champagne charlie

Reiss Nelson is giving me Jermaine Pennant vibes. All the talent but just seems like he’s going to faded away

“Anyone who believed any of that tripe needs serious help, the Kroenkes don’t give a toss about Arsenal hence why they keep hiring seemingly incompetent folks to run it”

Now i understand why you always scream your words are being twisted, its paranoia borne from the fact you twist the words of others. You should know all about dim, an arrogant stupid person is the worst kind of stupid

The main aim of pre-season friendlies is to get players back to fitness.

    Everything after that is secondary.

    I thought everybody knew that.

“Everton will hold talks over the signing of Wilfried Zaha this week, according to Sky sources.

However, a source close to the player has told Sky Sports News the Crystal Palace winger’s preference remains a move to Arsenal.”

Proper meltdown this would cause if it goes through, but it’s Sky sources so………

You’ve dismissed the possibility that we could’ve negotiated targets before May twice now. There’s no twisting necessary when you constantly barrel roll defensively by making inane remark after remark.

  8. Guns of Hackney

When Arsenal decided to roll again with the pitiful, Emery…we raised the white flag for the new season. What exactly did Emery do that Arsenal thought “this guy gets it”?

Was it the capitulation in the league or the capitulation in the Europa final that convinced the board?

Sign whoever you like but with koko the clown in charge, we aren’t producing CL football.

I bet we don’t even win the Emirates Cup.

  9. Receding Hairline

The only thing lacking in sense or meaning here is your demand things are done more efficiently now after spending years on here defending the old boss, your demand for tactics after defending 8-2 and 10-2 agg thrashings, all of a sudden your expectations of Arsenal is for us to be up there with the best in the world after spending years telling us why it is impossible and Wenger is the over-achieving.

Yes it’s possible clubs don’t know who and who they want to move on in May or who they may need to sell to balance the books, Madrid didn’t make Ozil available until late into the window, Arteta was not on the transfer list until we got embarrassed at Old Trafford and he forced his way out of Everton to join. That you want to paint a picture that all transfers are possible in May and doubling down on it isn’t surprising considering you are not very bright Charles

“your demand for tactics after defending 8-2 and 10-2 agg thrashings”

I seriously don’t remember CC defending those results….

“I seriously don’t remember CC defending those results….”

Do you remember him calling for the sacking of the coach back then??

Do you remember him calling for the sacking of the coach ever??

  12. Champagne charlie

“The only thing lacking in sense or meaning here is your demand things are done more efficiently now after spending years on here defending the old boss“

Yea nothing to do with the total overhaul of the club behind the scenes specifically to facilitate a modern approach to everything being discussed.

“all of a sudden your expectations of Arsenal is for us to be up there with the best in the world after spending years telling us why it is impossible and Wenger is the over-achieving.”

Going to quote me on that? Sounds a lot like you talking out your walnut because you’re aiming to score points. Last summer, and during the season, I stated multiple times I had zero concrete expectations in terms of where we ended up and it was all about the process and progress. Two for two in the lying stakes so far, can you make it a hat trick?

“That you want to paint a picture that all transfers are possible in May and doubling down on it isn’t surprising considering you are not very bright Charles”

YESSS, he’s done it, the man with the dodgy hair and a dream has scored the liars hat trick.

I never stated all transfers are possible before May, I said negotiations and targets are drawn up long before then. I also said I’ve no issue with some protracted transfers like Zaha, because it’s big money and delicate. Kieran Tierney however is amateurish, he’s a modest fee from a club open to selling. That should’ve been done a month ago.

Slow clap for you though Shrek, I applaud the effort. Back to your swamp you go.

“The main aim of pre-season friendlies is to get players back to fitness”

Of course it is but it’s difficult to fathom why any manager( or fan) would want a team that is playing full of confidence against Real Madrid , to then lose that confidence due to unnecessary personnel and tactical changes .

Imagine the difference in the changing room at half time compared to full time .

It would have been buzzing at half time .
Full time , one would imagine the players were despondent after being run ragged.

It goes back to Ozil’s ” you’re not a coach remark “…..how many of those experienced players were looking across at Emery at full time and thinking “why did you allow that to happen when we were in total control of the game”

  14. Champagne charlie

    Frank Mc

Weird that eh. But Receding says I did, so please do him a kindness and yield to his version of events. It’s what feeds his soul

entire starting elevens are changed at halftime in preseason

  16. Ishola70

    Pierre

Players are rotated in friendlies during the match precisely because of fitness matters. The eye is on getting the players right for the competitive fixtures ahead.

The eye is not on a desperation to beat Real Madrid in a friendly.

  17. Marc

Oh dear Pierre’s on the any stick to beat Emery path again. In a pre season match the positives of half time will still be kept, the negatives of the second half will remind players that they need to keep focused and apply themselves.

  18. Marc

That link makes you look like a 5 year old who’s just discovered his first swear word and keeps using it because he thinks it makes him look big and clever.

    Give it a rest.

  19. Chris

“their highest wage earner has made it impossible to negotiate all future contracts. Why accept £100,000-a-week when ‘8/10 against bottom six team at home, pulling out of games north of Watford and disappearing in all but one game that matters’ is currently worth £350,000 every single week courtesy of Mesut Ozil. No wonder they have no money.”

Eurosport nailed it there. I guess Pierre will be boycotting that channel from now on.

  20. Chris

Pierre is hyper critical of Emery yet never one word against Arsene.

It’s funny how people think their Emery obsessions might get under people’s skin. I don’t think many Arsenal fans would much care if Emery is sacked tomorrow.

  21. Pierre

    RH
“entire starting elevens are changed at halftime in preseason”

They are, but last night was a tactical and personnel change that went wrong , very similar to Emery’s game management v Rennes when Sokratis was sent off .

It does make one question Emery’s judgement I think it’s fair to say.

  22. Pierre

    Marc
“Oh dear Pierre’s on the any stick to beat Emery path again. In a pre season match the positives of half time will still be kept, the negatives of the second half will remind players that they need to keep focused and apply themselves.”

Obviously you have never played the game.

  23. Receding Hairline

“Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said his ‘first objective’ is to work with a back four next season, although he plans to keep the back three as an option.”

Disagree, we should never play a back three again, we don’t have the players for it (nor for a back four if i am being honest)

“He said: “We want to use two systems but our first objective is to play with a back four. We are continuing working on that and, above all, feel that we defensively get stronger with a back four with Sead, with Ainsley, with Jenkinson and with Hector when he comes back”

Two of those players are useless in a back four, one of them should not be playing for Arsenal, it’s talk like this that will cost you your job come season end. Sugar coating the reality

  24. Chris

    RH

If that is Emery’s ideal backline we are in trouble.

The club lacks a real ruthless streak to bomb out the deadwood.

  25. Pierre

    Marc
“negatives of the second half will remind players that they need to keep focused and apply themselves.”

Of course they will , they would have been sitting in the changing room after. the game saying to themselves ” I must remain focused and apply myself “.

  26. China1

So the top 3 players the fans want gone are ozil mustafi and xhaka and 2 are vying for captain

    THERE IS NO GOD

“If that is Emery’s ideal backline we are in trouble.”

really ?….did you just have a eureka moment.

Next you will be saying that we Will be in trouble if we play xhaka,Ozil and Mhkitaryan in front to protect them.

  28. Receding Hairline

“If that is Emery’s ideal backline we are in trouble. The club lacks a real ruthless streak to bomb out the deadwood.”

He knows they aren’t good enough, he is going along with it because the pay is good and like he said there is “no pressure” at Arsenal.

Which gets me worried because in as much as i am willing to afford him another season i fear the lack of ruthlessness might see him extended if we fail to qualify for the UCL again or play like relegation candidates away from home again

  29. Chris

    Pierre

Not really, just adding to the Emery bashing.

The very suggestion of those 3 in midfield will actually give me nightmares now, thanks for that.

  30. Graham62

Quite rightly, Koscielny has been told he will have nothing to do with AFC this season.

Well done Unai. All those players who’ve been coasting for years at the club, under the impression they are heroes and legends and deserve special loyalty bonuses, are suddenly getting a reality check.

Sorry Kos, welcome to the real world.

  31. Marc

    Pierre

When I suggested just after Christmas that we should give Torreira a week off in the sunshine to rest and recuperate you off about my lack of tactical knowledge etc etc.

How did Torreira’s season go in the end?

You are the last person to lecture others on football knowledge – a guy who’s still quoting Ozil’s stats from 3 years ago as to why he should start.

  32. Marc

    Graham

It’s good to see some balls being shown by the club. It started with the withdrawal of Ramsey’s contract and it’s being carried through.

  33. HighburyLegend

“The king of liars and twisting himself into knots calling someone else a liar……end of the world stuff.”

Not “end of the world stuff”, just some survivors from the AKB breed.

  34. Nelson

Juv is playing Rabiot, Matuidi and Pjanic as midfield 3 vs Int. Looks like Ramsey is not ready to play yet.

  35. Receding Hairline

“Well done Unai. All those players who’ve been coasting for years at the club, under the impression they are heroes and legends and deserve special loyalty bonuses, are suddenly getting a reality check.”

Well Charles thinks we should tear up his contract and let him go because he “labored for 9 years” playing for us and is now 33 ( a retirement age for footballers). Of course the same poster wanted 33 year old Valencia signed to provide cover for Bellerin…of course he denies he never said that same way he denies ever recommending Benitez as the man to take us forward

  36. Freddie Ljungberg

Pierre out in full force bashing “he who is not my daddy Wenger” over a meaningless preseason game meant to build up fitness? Yep, checks out, carry on.

  37. Freddie Ljungberg

They claim Ceballos has tweeted some controversial stuff in the past, with some of these since deleted, including mocking legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas for the size of his manhood, whilst stating he’d like to ‘f**k’ his wife Sara Carbonero.

“The youngster has also launched attacks on advocates for Catalan independence and hinting at a support for far-right authoritarian leader Francisco Franco, according to the Sun, once tweeting: “Get out of the country, Catalans! With Franco this never would have happened.

He is also claimed to have tweeted: “They should drop a bomb on the stadium and kill all those Catalan and Basque dogs” in response to Catalan and Basque fans booing the Spanish national anthem ahead of a game between Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao in 2015.”

    At least Ceballos seems nice…

  38. Nelson

Of the two Milan teams, Inter looks much better organized. They may not have enough to compete against Juv.

Ronardo just scored a free kick to level the match at 1 – 1.

  39. Freddie Ljungberg

On the pitch sure, not convinced being a dickhead on twitter is something we desperately need though. Hopefully he keeps his political views to himself nowadays, this was back in 2015.

LOL..heard he talked a lot of nonsense about Zizou when he left so no surprise Zizou wants him out now, i hope he calls Ozil a lesbian after one of his useless performances ….we need some nastiness. Maybe the fact he is just here on loan will make him nastier …

I remember my son telling me years back that Kos was not a born leader and the only reason he was playing for Arsenal was because he was French.

    So so true.

There were far better options out there but because he was revered so much by Monsi
