The youth makes a statement

BACK TO THE FOOTBALL.

I watched Arsenal play on the plane yesterday as we beat the mighty Bayern Munich. I know it’s tough to read into these sorts of games, but a win is a win however you chop it up.

The players looked fit, the haircuts looked fresh and that away kit looks stunning.

I don’t want to pontificate on the details, but here are a few things I enjoyed.

Ozil looked like he wanted to play. No point in having a haircut that pretty if you’re stuck on the bench. He moved around the pitch really well and caused a nuisance.

Auba looks very fit and ready to go, I thought he had an interesting game drifting in and out of wide positions.

Joe Willock could be a surprise package this season. He’s an actual athlete and he looks like he has something about his game. He’s very composed and focused, hopefully something happens for him this year.

I was also very happy to see Eddie score. That kid is a poacher and I’d love him to land a little more game time this year.

I also really like the look of John-Jules. He’s compact, fast and making a difference when he shows up. He has teams like Juve and PSG chasing him, he either plays or we lose him. We are long overdue a Jack Wilshere like kid on the scene.

Also… how about Emery and those pearly whites?

Things look like they’re moving in the transfer market. Zaha has said he wants out at Palace, Tierney is moving forward, the club are nearly done on Saliba and Ceballos looks like he could be reality with Spurs dropping out. Throw in a ‘now’ centre back and we’re rolling.

I know the French papers are reporting a bid for Pepe, but be real, we don’t have £80m to spend, so any money flashing from our wallet is monopoly paper or it’s a ‘we tried’ bid.

Right, Fiorentina up on Saturday. I’ll be back with a more imposing blog tomorrow! In the meantime, know that The Arsenal Opinion is back on the regular starting soon… in the meantime, I did a little something with the team over at Mundial. It’s about the Arsenal vs United rivalry. You should put it on your playlist RIGHT NOW.

A centre back who goes into the team now was said to be a priority. Unless they see Chambers as that person someone might still come in.

I am not saying Arsenal will win anything or finish in the top 4 but if Big Sam Allardyce comes to the N5, Arsenal will only concede 25 goals in the league. Bet!

No, I don’t need a mental check up, I’m fine.

Looks like Tierney and Ceballos also getting done. What I am most eagerly for is Everton’s signing – Zaha may be good but Everton is in my view better in the longer term

Emiratesstroller

Saliba is I hope a decent “long term acquisition” if confirmed. However, it is not a solution for this season. Koscielny and Monreal are past their best and should not be playing at Arsenal. There are also concerns about both Mustafi and Kolasinac and both Bellerin and Holding are coming back from serious injuries. So the bottom line is that Arsenal have currently only one fit defender who is good enough to play in first team at start of season and that is Sokratis unless you include Chambers who has yet to prove himself at club. What concerns me is… Read more »

Chambers yesterday in an interview said he is looking to playing for us this season – so I don’t think he is going anywhere unless he is made a last minute makeshift for Zaha. Anyway I think he is better than Mustafi and will improve us

Goobergooner

Why don’t chambers or asano have pics on the arsenal app?

Dark Hei

“Anyway I think he is better than Mustafi and will improve us”

Maybe the solution is to play Ozil as a CB.

I can assure you that he won’t concede penalties nor get his ass sent off.

NW9 gooner

The two signings made by us till now means that we will have two players who will be worth 100 m in a few years if their hype is justified – good deals

Goobergooner

Hahahaha Ozil as CB.

I mean I know that is a joke but the thought of that is just horrendous

Carts

Fair to assume if we wanted Saliba this summer he’d have cost more?

It’s weird how spending a few mill on CB in and around Saliba’s age doesn’t seem to bode well (Pleguezelo, Bielik, Holding, Mavropanos) but we drop £35m+ on a french kid and it believed our prayers have been answered …

Football is a weird fucking game

As usual, Receding hairline talking to much sense about Mislintat. From that imtervjew, one can deduce that he took the wrong career move by coming to Arsenal. He’s an egocentric fella who wants near total control It was creepy hearing him say that Zorc just rubber-stamped his recommendations. He also seemed to be bemoaning not being on the touch line, away from the spotlight. The truth is that most of his signings and recommendations were were contact based and just a remix of his old time hits. He missed affordable young players because he insisted on oldies. Saliba is a massive risk, let’s just hope it turns out well. He better be the love child of Maldini to fulfil the massive expectations on his shoulders.

Carts has a point.
Is he really better than Holding who we picked up for £2 mil and a bag of chips. Saliba will still have the same growing pains like any other young defender.
We need to scout the lower leagues and try to find another player like Holding.

Cesc Appeal

The thing is with Saliba if we’d had more money we likely would have got it done faster and for cheaper because our original offer would have had far more cash up front along with the loan which likely would have sealed it at the original £15-20 Million sort of price. Our problem is the issue of negotiating minimal fees up front and staggered payment along with add ons which draws things out and allowed City to look at him and then Spurs to try for him. I really think he looks a top prospect though. I think we will… Read more »

Saliba may well turn out to be a good signing. I certainly hope so.

But it does not address the two fundamental and immediate weaknesses at the heart of our defensive frailties – poor quality players like Mustafi and an amazing lack of basic coaching.

Clear out the dross and bring in bright young prospects. But also tackle the lack of basic definsive coaching which has been missing since George Graham.

“Recruiting influence” to sign Auba?

What in the world is that?
Never mind that we paid a club record fee and had to sell several players to fund the transfer.

So he wanted to be made technical director because he signed 29 year old Aubameyang for a club record fee. He wanted to be allowed to shape the future of Arsenal football club based on that.

The only other club who felt they wanted to be shaped in his image turned out to be Stuttgart , after all the talks of Bayern Munich and AC Milan that’s quite an anti climax. Yet we have certain fans who can’t let him go.

Impossible to say. We would need to know precisely what his contract says or whether he has a written promise (a letter or e-mail perhaps?).

I am not going to speculate. But the most interesting point is Kos’s certainty in taking the action. He must have something to back up his claim – or he would be extremely foolish to pursue a costly case.

Fleetwood, Westwood and Rose all up there in the golf.

England ladies in the semi’s of the Netball World Championships.

Jolly good show.

Ozil playing well.?
Is that for a Move.?
Bad eggs should be discarded
they stink the place out and everyone
suffers.
You can bet he will revert once the season starts
and opposition players start getting on his case.
Friendlies mean very little.
Come on China he’s even got the Honda haircut colour.?

Kos is a prime example of what can go wrong if you are made to think your a really special individual.

Thanks Arsene.

Graham, yep. Zzzzz.

I’m sure posters like Marko, RH, CA etc were singing Sven’s praises before he was pushed out the door …..what a strange lot they really are that they can do a complete u turn on something or someone to suit their agenda.

Bored of Sven talk…

Everton Soares. I like what I saw of him in the copa America. Buy a little afraid he may be the partying type. You know these South Americans and their gay lifestyle.
Hope Edu guides him the pinnacle of his time with us in the league.
I hope we don’t become a selling club when our signing reach their potentials.

Marko

I was admittedly not happy when he left but at the same time I’m not about to reimagine the job he done while he was at Arsenal just because I either have a problem with the Spaniards currently at the club or because we haven’t made enough signings so far this summer. He did not do a great job while at Arsenal. To think otherwise is wrong

‘Impossible to say. We would need to know precisely what his contract says or whether he has a written promise (a letter or e-mail perhaps?).’

Don’t know what he was promised and don’t care. He didn’t get on the plane to go do the job he was contracted to do for which he earns top bread. Bread sliced in half. That’s fair as I see, should be fair in the court.

Chatting absolute prejudice shite. He’s married and has a young baby.
