Ultimate endgame: Stan sells. But how?

by .

Great to see Arsenal fans responding so well the letter yesterday.

Could lead to nothing, or it could be the first step on the path to real fan action. You know, like sending a severed horse head to Josh wrapped in an LA Rams shirt.

Too far?

Sad reality for us is that the exec leadership team only answer to one man, and if that man doesn’t want to make greatness happen, we’re fucked.

The only true way of making things hard for Stan K and his trustafarian man baby is to make a statement in the stadium.

Literally, don’t show up.

I think the empty stands worried the club and those sun-bleached red seats on TV never look good. The only way to make things really unappealing for Stan is to starve the club of fans in the ground. You have to hurt a money many where it actually stings… the wallet.

The way to real change is to convince Stan that selling the club is more financially viable than pumping a few million quid in here and there.

Ultimately, I don’t really understand the point of having a foreign club in the portfolio if you’re actively tanking it into the ground. We’re must be annoying, the cost of bringing us back to the top is getting higher and higher as each season passes, and to truly make it happen, there needs to be a concentrated effort.

I’m not sure Stan has the stomach for that.

Even if we move back to the top, does it really impact their LA life? Doubtful. Not sure people in their circles give a rats backside about how his English club is doing.

We know that £2b wasn’t enough for Stan. He’s already rejected a mega bid. But everyone has a price. There’s a threshold for every owner. A cost vs aggravation equation. One that looks to be getting the better of Roman Abramovich of late. The Russian has no love from the people, no love from the government, and things are so crazy, even he’s starting to look like a pauper.

… however, slate Roman all you like, he loved the football. Joy factored in his passion.

It doesn’t factor into Stan’s. Most billionaires would stop doing something when it became arduous or unsatisfying… or, you know, a bit embarrassing. The sticking point is that Arsenal was never a plaything for him, it was just an asset that made good returns (in a property sense). The only difference now is that the top four supremacy we once boasted has disappeared. How much more valuable can the club get without success?

I read an interesting quote about someone in politics.

‘If you have no values, how can you be judged?’

It’s similar in sport.

‘If you don’t care about winning, how can you ever feel the burn of failure?’

Back to the takeover… where does the money come from?

We’re a real jewel, a very attractive sleeping giant, instant credibility if we were purchased. But are the Arab countries getting a bit bored of throwing so much money at a problem that even PSG levels of investment can’t crack the big trophies?

Or does the fame, credibility and power our postcode offers investors still make us a prize worth chasing?

You still have to give reason for someone to sell.

Arsenal fans are a comfortable bunch. We’re mostly well off, we mostly don’t like conflict, and the idea of spending your Sunday protesting something that is ‘supposed’ to give you joy seems a little offensive to most.

You also don’t want to be told what to do by some loudmouth behind a keyboard or camera. You don’t want your fandom to be judged by whether you go or not. I’m not a season ticket holder at the minute, but when I was, I detested armchair folk telling me how to support.

‘Go fuck yourself’ I thought. I put my money down. I stand in the cold watching Theo Walcott fall on his arse all day. I’ll support how I want. It’s very, very hard to take a rationale view to football, especially if you’ve spent money on it.

… but perversely, if you see your season ticket as a long term investment, the way to get the most value from it is to miss 5 games in unison with 30,000 other fans when things inevitably go sour this season.

The property equivalent is a little bit like owning an old property in London they won’t let you build on because it’s listed. Do you sit on it, because there’s sentimentality and rules in place, or do you burn it down totally by accident?

There aren’t many that take the latter option, but those that take the former are richer than you.

Do you want to be football rich? Well, you know the answer (don’t go. Please don’t try and start a fire)

My campaign would be:

#DontSitOnItSellIt

Needs some work for sure.

Let me know what YOU think in the comments.

P.S. I was flying through the preseason game, but excellent to see Martinelli and Saka score! Well played to Olayinka as well. WINNING START. x

    Marc,

You do realise that Emery is just the head coach not the head of recruitment!
Recruitment is out of his remit.

  2. Marc

    Valentin

Do you know that Sven only agreed to join after Gazidis promised him Wenger would be gone soon?

Apparently Sven said he was a useless cunt and an embarrassment to Arsenal.

  3. Marko

At the beginning of last season, Emery have the same speech of giving youth a chance. In reality He did not.

Gave debuts to ESR, Saka, Medley and Gilmour. Gave significant game time to 20 AMN, 22 year olds Iwobi Torreira and Holding, 23 year old Bellerin and 19 year old Guendouzi. With you it’s either a case of overestimating the quality of our youth or overlooking the truth. You have to try harder though the whole doesn’t do youth thing is old and false at this stage

  4. Marc

    Marko

I’d seriously like us to go back to what Wenger used to do in the League Cup and use youth for the majority of positions.

According to Valentin if we do this we’ll win it.

  5. Valentin

    Marc,

Clearly he got more than an input, he got the decision he wanted against the wishes of the guy in charge of recruitment. That’s overruling the head of department. How can you not see that this set a bad precedent.

You can bypass the head of a department and get what you want.
What is the point of modern structure if you do away with role and responsibilities for personal convenience?

Imagine in any corporate world hiring somebody against the advice of HR?

  6. S Asoa

    Quoting Mark
“ Do you know that Sven only agreed to join after Gazidis promised him Wenger would be gone soon?Apparently Sven said he was a useless cunt and an embarrassment to Arsenal.“

If that is so Sven had a good judgement of people , was blunt . Fuck the corporate niceties. Would also explain why he couldn’t be undermined in his profession by a Spanish Waiter who landed a job unbecoming his capabilities

  7. Marc

    Valentin

It wasn’t Sven’s job to interfere with the youth team. You really don’t seem to get it do you – My argument isn’t that Sven shouldn’t have gone against the signing of Suarez he was right to but what he should have done is put forward better options.

And no not the fucking kids.

  8. S Asoa

    By the way
Raul S peddles the stock of snake oil at AFC and reportedly has a good clientele of meek fans who like a good rub
    😂🙈

  9. Marko

I’d seriously like us to go back to what Wenger used to do in the League Cup and use youth for the majority of positions.

I mean we kinda did last season maybe not exclusively all youth but some were bled in. Picked a stronger team against Spurs but so did they.

Also worth noting that Arsene Wenger never won the league cup so maybe it’s not the best idea to use youth exclusively in the league cup. Also during that time he hardly brought through a raft of youngsters because of it.

  10. Valentin

    Marc,

Again the usual tripe of travesting my words.

I said that instead of using first team players in the early round of the Cups, we could have given minutes to youth team. That would have given them experience. Emery would also have been able to gauge them in a competitive environment.
That would also have the extra benefit of lessen the burden on the few fit senior players.
Same thing, when Arsenal is comfortably winning and there is 15 minutes left, making use of Saka, ESR, Nkethia or Willock would bring more long term benefit than playing Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ramsey or Elneny.

The EPL season are long me arduous, unless you are a club with two international for each positions, you always need at one point to rely on one or two younger players. Trying to make sure that they are ready to step in is good long term squad management.

  11. Marc

    From todays post on Arseblog:

“Highlighting a decision to incorporate Freddie within the first team set up ignores the fact that it was Ljungberg and Bould themselves who asked for the change to take place. Emery admitted as much the other day. ”

Oh dear Valentin that’s your season done.

  12. Receding Hairline

Valentin you have not answered my question, if the youth were good enough why recommend Carrasco and Perisic??

You are trying to project Sven as some defender of our youth policy and his going as proof Emery did not play youth and Freddie has been forced on him to ensure that, we have two 30 year old’s now in the squad thanks to Sven!!!

  13. Valentin

    Marc,

I stated that fact a month ago. Today’s because it is on Arseblog it is gospel.
Steve Bould had a fallout with Emery.
Freddie had been contacted for some opportunities as first team coach abroad, but Arsenal did not want to lose him.
Raul proposed the exchange who was more or less imposed upon on Emery.
The delay was due to Freddie wanting some assurance with regards to his role. Assurance that initially Emery was unwilling to give.

  14. Dissenter

    Valentin
Mislintat was just one the many people tasked with responsibilities related with recruitment. I think you’re getting fooled by the fine title of “director of recruitment”
The recruitment process is set up as a corroborative team approach. Mislintat’s job is to execute what the TEAM agrees to do. His job is not to dictate to others there. He has a say, same as he academy durector may have when it involves an academy player or the head coach if it involves the first team.
When you work in a team, you can’t have your way all the time, not even when you have a fine title of “director or recruitment”
Do you ever wonder why he had the fall-out at Dortmund?

Knowing what we know right now. I think Raul was right to deny Mislintat the role of technical director. He clearly doesn’t have the skill set to work in a team.
He can enjoy being the grand duke of scouting at Stuttgart.

  15. Valentin

    Receding,

Maybe because Perisic is better than Saka who is better than SuareZ.

Because you recommend a player, does not mean that you will always recommend him over any other.
    Not difficult to understand.

  16. Marc

    Dissenter

Have you ever worked in a role where a member of the team constant gets involved or tries to get involved in everything but their own job?

I have it’s a major pain in the arse!

  17. Receding Hairline

“Steve Bould had a fallout with Emery.”

    Nature of this fallout??

“The delay was due to Freddie wanting some assurance with regards to his role.”

I would expect the responsibilities of an assistant coach is pretty clear, although you are now telling us he is there to ensure youths get to play, and if Emery does not pick them what next?? Did he get assurances he gets to pick the team??

  18. Dissenter

So what if Steve Bould had a fallout with Emery
I wish Bould had the boldness [pun intended] to challenge Wenger all the time he sat on the dugout like a freaking zombie.

Assuming they had a fall-out…so bloody what?
Stevie Bould can transfer his genius to the U-23 team or seek a head coach role someplace so we can see him do it better.
Confrontation is not such a bad thing.

  19. S Asoa

By the way Grand Duke Sven M is doing much better getting good players at reasonable prices than the tripping over going on now at AFC under the deemed better people

  20. Receding Hairline

“Maybe because Perisic is better than Saka who is better than SuareZ.”

Saka will do very well to have half the career Suarez has had. Very well indeed. Barcelona did not decide to buy Suarez because they liked the sound of his name.

  21. Valentin

    Marc,

Part of the assurance that Freddie was looking for was the influence he would have on the team.
No point in getting the title of first team coach if your suggestion that a youth team player is ready are systematically ignored.

Part of the issue that Raul had encountered toward the end of the season is the fact that a lot of the better academy prospects were not willing to sign their first contract or an extension with Arsenal. Most did not see a path toward first team. Putting Freddie there is also a message to the academy players and their agents that somebody on the coaching staff will fight their corner.

I think that you will want to revisit that statement in 5 years time.

Suarez career is going nowhere fast. His time at Barcelona is likely to be the peak of his career. He has just been transferred to Celta Vigo for €13 millions.

“Bould had a good record as youth coach.”

..but not a day’s experience as head coach

I’m just addressing this constant talk of him disagreeing with the manager to cars Emery in a bad light.
When I manage teams at work. I create an environment where healthy intense dissent is welcome. Emery has publicly talked about instigating dissent to build character.
I just think the whole thing is overblown.
We are where we are right now because we were the club that always played nice and avoided confrontations…until now

Remember how Gallas was quietly moved out when he registered his protest [about our mental capitulation] in a rather comical fashion. Wenger should have just let let the lads fight it out that day in the dressing room, not moved out the leader who wanted to bollocks them.

” comfortably winning ” …….doesn’t really happen under Emery in the league does it…maybe a couple of times_last season at best, normally we were either desperately hanging on to a lead or frantically ( without success) trying to retrieve a losing situation.

  26. Receding Hairline

    Emery is still in charge.

If Emery refuse to play youth team players and request another player, I suspect that Raul will request Freddie’s opinion.

Also integrating the youth team players will be part of his targets. So if he gets Champion’s league he may get more leeway on that. However if he again to fail to so and does not integrate players, then that will count against him when deciding to extend.

I don’t see a Champions League in our immediate to long term future no

  39. Receding Hairline

“Unlikely if he stay at Arsenal under Emery!”

Bit of a silly statement ..Saka’s career has nothing to do with Emery, If he is good enough he will get a big money move t a club capable of winning the champions league. We are discussing Saka not Emery, Your eagerness to talk down on Emery at every turn always looks personal.

In fact none of these Academy superstars have to make it at Arsenal Valentin, they can go on to have successful careers elsewhere. This play the youth, play the youth clamor is borne out of desperation.

Apparently an offer for a loan for Malcom is on the table. Barcelona want 60 million for him presumably to help with signing Neymar (they won’t get that and they know it) and his agents are meeting with the club in order to thrash out a deal because he wants playing time.

Don’t want to get ahead of myself but the idea of a Malcom, Auba and Everton front 3 could be the thing of nightmares for defences in England. Great counter attacking potential

Wenger never used to talk about transfers in that manner
He would bemoan about not being able to find players better than we currently have or yap about internal solutions.

Who do you think would Sell the club better? Emery and Raul? Or Wenger? The arsenal legend
The man who created Henry, vieira, Anelka, cesc and rvp? Or emery?

The man has the sort of gravitas emery and Raul could only dream of.

  76. Receding Hairline

“Who do you think would Sell the club better? Emery and Raul? Or Wenger? The arsenal legend”

    He was sacked

Left to him he will still be Arsenal manager, the Wenger out banners will still be out and he will still be pocketing millions

Why should attracting talent be left to a man who did everything in his power not to buy them when he was in charge??

  77. Chris

Wenger back at the club…..oh my days!

Don’t get me wrong, best manager we ever had etc but his time is done, for numerous reasons that have been discussed to death.

It’s a romantic but nonsensical notion.

  78. Dissenter

These Arsene-knows-best blokes just won’t let go.

They remind me soldiers of the imperial Japanese army that kept fighting for decades after the surrender of the emperor.

  79. Marko

Useless cunt who was awful at signing players for Arsenal should be in charge of signing players for Arsenal? Good one

My whole view Point all along

Kanu brought two Nigerian kids to Arsenal; Chukwueze and Nwakali

Guess which one Wenger gave the contract to?

The one last seen playing for Porto B. He isn’t even on the tour is he?

  83. Chris

I don’t even think Wenger would want to come back in that capacity. He seems to have moved on, contrast how he looks now to 18 months ago. He looks happy, healthy and at ease.

  84. Un na naai

    Marko

    Useless??
Have you been watching this summer? How about January?

Nobody (And I mean nobody) in the premier league is as useless as these Cunt in getting deals done.

And nobody is talking wenger to select players. Just to sell the club to them.
When do you think is the next time we get near a olayer of the quality of Alexis Sanchez?? I can’t see it. Not with these mugs. All we’ve had out these fools is Suarez and Martinelli. It’s laughable

  85. Ishola70

    loool bless him Arsene.

You have to go back five years for his last really good signing for the club and that was hardly spotting a player with Alexis Sanchez.

Last players he brought that were noteworthy were Cazorla and Monreal a whole seven years ago. Seven years !

    lol @ Arsene.

  86. CG

The Greatest Irony in all of this

The incompetence and inadequacies of Emery and Raul are making Wengers Legacy even greater.

Had the club appointed a respected proven coach- he would hardly ever even been mentioned.

    They Didn’t.

We got a Spiv and his Clown instead.

  87. Marc

Wenger a manager who’s best days were over a decade ago, who’s market valuations of players was also a decade out of sink for years leading us to miss out on countless players until he gave the green light to the signings of Mustafi and Xhaka for a combined £70 odd million.

Definitely the man we want guiding the club into the future.

  88. Un na naai

Man stranger things has gone downhill. What a let down
It’s almost slapstick. They should have kept the tone from the first season.

  89. Ishola70

Alexis Sanchez would not have even looked at Arsenal if they were not in the Champions League.

And who was at the helm when Arsenal slipped out of Champions League?

    Yeah dear old Arsene. Bless.

  90. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Has welbeck signed anywhere yet..

So hoping we get Saliba , n Everton.

Not to bothered bout tiernay .

  91. Dream10

With Xhaka being mentioned as a possible captain, it means he’ll be a nailed on member of the first XI. Means that there is the possibility that Torreira will not be a fixture in the starting lineup

  92. Un na naai

    Chris

    Me neither
Not to work under another manager
It would be like our wife kicking you out for another bloke but asking you to come back and do some DIY.

  93. Marko

Nobody (And I mean nobody) in the premier league is as useless as these Cunt in getting deals done.

Said useless cunt went years not addressing the goalkeeping issue, the DM issue, the lack of wingers issue and frankly properly addressing the lack of pace at striker position. He also lied about the severity of player’s injuries so as not to bring in possible replacements and went a whole summer not buying a single outfield player. He’s basically wank at signings

  94. Marc

I didn’t realise the hold up on the Tierney deal was the player being uncertain about joining us.

I mean every top player still wants to play for Wenger I mean the list is endless – RVP, Cesc, Nasri, Sanchez, Gnabry the list goes on and on.

  95. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Cg

    Calm down…

    You getting stressed, ain’t good..

I agree bout Raul , but willing to give dick this season with you.

  96. Valentin

    Dissenter,

The deal with Chukwueze collapsed because they wanted a % in case of resale and Gazidis refused to sign on that.
There was also the minor issue that as a minor from a different continent, Arsenal was at risk of falling foul of FIFA regulation. Barcelona had just been banned from transfer for that exact reason.

  97. Marc

    Chris

CG thinks the club should have the following structure.

    CEO – Wenger
    DOF – Wenger
    Manager – Wenger
    Head of Recruitment – Wenger
    Head of Fitness – Wenger
    Tea Lady – Wenger
