Welcome Edu (please hurry)

by .

Oh man… I’m err… gonna do this.

Mustafi changed his Instagram bio and REMOVED the links to Arsenal.

Could it mean something?

Who knows. I really, really, really hope so.

Edu. The mightiest of Brazilians just oversaw a win in the Copa America. One more week and he lands back in the land of London Colney. That’s great news. We’re hiring in someone who can build a winning machine. Hooooray!

Sevilla is rumoured to be interested in Mikhi. That’s lovely, but I would imagine his salary would land them about 17 players, so not sure this one has much juice to it.

Kurzawa of PSG. Yes, that left back who always looks REAL cool in the stands, has apparently been told he can leave. Big fan of Emeryball? No doubt. Get on that overlap you absolute beauty.

Ok… I’m going to do it again… Kieran Tierney’s pals reckon the left back is going to stay at Celtic for another season. FFS… we couldn’t push it over the line. Still not quite sure about the sleuthing here. What sort of weirdo is keeping tabs on Tierney’s mates? Why is there ALWAYS a weirdo keeping tabs on football players bios? Why am I writing about it?

Anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised if we pulled the plug on the left back, because that’s old Arsenal, quibbling over £3m to make a useless point then wrapping a comfort blanket excuse around it like, ‘that’s Arsenal class.’ Fuck efficiency. Art of the Deal all the way.

Arsenal, who have managed to move on ONE player all summer, will want to punch themselves in the face when they read this:

🚨Bournemouth have sold Tyrone Mings for £26.5m! A player that has made about 17 appearances in 4 seasons!🚨

What the fuck is going on in Raul’s office? Bournemouth can sell an absolute nobody for £26.5m, and we can’t shift Calum Chambers, Fulham’s player of the season, for a single bloody sausage?

Sometimes I wonder if Raul just needs someone cranking those phones. I’ve worked in recruitment before. Just work out your script and start crushing digits.

‘Good afternoon, my name is Peter Wood, I’m representing the Yellow Sticker department at Arsenal football club, may I speak to your chief buyer?’

‘Well howdy doody, I have many fine products that are hot out the oven, with many genuine buyers interested. To name but a few: A World Cup Champion who is good with concentration, a young player with sturdy legs, a mercurial Germanturkishman with very fine taste in autocrats, a Swiss who always took charge of the spare key, and a Bosnian that will run and run and sometimes act if you ask him nicely. What takes your fancy?’

Easy.

Give me a commission. Say, 5% of every deal, reckon I’d be able to shift them in a week. How hard can it be?

Other things we could do:

  • Offer to buy out their contracts
  • Tell them not to bother coming to training at all, totally shut them out
  • Sell them at literally nothing. Zero transfer fee, just to get them off the books. Because honestly, what is the fucking point in keeping these absolute wasters in the squad for another season? If we don’t take the hit on the books now, we’ll take it in the dressing room and on the pitch all season.

Ok, some of those ideas are a touch extreme. But sheesh, there is NO other club in the world that makes it easier to be an absolute bum than Arsenal.

There’s even a club photo of Ozil, Kola and Mustafi just hanging out.

I am TRIGGERED. How dare they just, you know, walk about together.

I heard through the grapevine that Emery split the kids and the first team from eating meals together at the training ground. No idea why he’d do something like that, maybe he’s trying to create some ambition in the youth ranks, John-Jules out there dreaming of eating a sandwich next to Nacho Monreal is probably how he ended up on the plane to America… regardless, are the players we want eating meals with everyone else? Are we testing their resolve on any level whatsoever?

‘No Ozil, eat your profiteroles roll on that dirty beanbag in the corner, you lazy boy’

Real Madrid seem to be shipping their dross out with absolute ease. What is our problem?

Tyrone Mings for £26.5m! HOW?!

Maybe none of this matters. Raul was just keeping the preseason warm for Edu? Hopefully he has some really fucking great ideas about who he wants to bring with him.

My MAJOR hope is that he doesn’t ship in 15 of his mates. I hope he’s a true pro. He needs a new chief scout, I hope he finds the smartest person doing the most mental things with data you could imagine, unearthing gems in untapped markets, perhaps helping small clubs bat well above their average.

My point is that I hope we’re hiring in a professional. Someone that knows the market. Someone that interviews for the job, you know, best candidate wins like the old days. Hopefully, he has an idea in his head about where the next frontier in football is located. Has a contacts books that can help him. Leans into that contacts book and seeks advice from good people.

We’ll see, but whatever happens, we need something to ignite our dismal post-season. To start training with literally one Brazilian that wasn’t even playing at the highest level is a touch miserable, especially considering how quickly we attacked our business in Sven Mislintat’s first summer.

Right, that’s me done. See you tomorrow. I’m back on the 9am run people.

xx

Only Marko thinks a player will gladly leave for lesser wages without some sort of pay-off to compensate him.
Are you that simple minded Marko?

MidwestGun

Gabriel in… 7.64 mill…. Ospina out … 3.99 mill.
plus 4.5mill approx. for Bennacer clause… = 850k positive.. or essentially we have done nothing to this point with regards to even trying to increase the budget through player sales.. and that’s what is more depressing then anything.

All this talk about going to Kroenke for money is great.. and If I was the owner I would give to the cause but Kroenke’s first question will be.. have you reduced the wage bill any and what have you done to increase the transfer funds with player sales? End of discussion.

Guns of SF

Question,

Does anyone think that we are just waiting for Edu to show before the real bizness gets started?

Micheal

“Does anyone think that we are just waiting for Edu to show before the real bizness gets started?”

No.

Kay

Sky reporting Saliba now.

Is it done? Can we move on to other transfers please.

MidwestGun

Guns –
Not really no.. I think Martinelli was an Edu suggestion.. we could be waiting to pull the trigger on a few buys… only because once the trigger is pulled we don’t have any more shots. But I don’t think they have been waiting on Edu to start negotiating or selling anyone we just haven’t succeeded on anything it seems.

Cesc Appeal

‘have you reduced the wage bill any and what have you done to increase the transfer funds with player sales? End of discussion.’ The answer to which would be the former problem makes the latter difficult. Maybe if you were actually paying attention to things over the last 6 years we wouldn’t be in this mess. Reality has to bite at some point and if Sanllehi shows Kroenke the offers on the table, the lack of bites from anywhere Kroenke can’t just keep saying well sell people and get the wage bill down. Hilariously the answer is well apparently not… Read more »

Marko

The only way a player with a lengthy contract moves to another club for lower wages is if we pay the balance of his wages That’s not remotely true. Only way? Only Marko thinks a player will gladly leave for lesser wages without some sort of pay-off to compensate him. Or he’s leaving because he wants more game time. I know it counters your earlier point about him sitting on his arse and getting paid but some footballers are actually interested in playing football and some players have been known to take a wage cut to join q team. I think that is a great signing (if it’s actually done now). A small payment this summer and £25 Million in total for a player who looks really exciting.

MidwestGun

Lol Cesc – believe me I would love to sit in on a meeting with Kroneke.. and let him have a piece of my mind.. I would get sacked though.. assuming I could even get hired in the first place.

Anyhow.. I’m not sure I believe the rumors of a secret meeting.. seems to me like Raul would be in contact with Josh or Stan more or less weekly or more. For me, we might as well get the #Kroneke Out movement fired up .. because I just can’t see any extra funds coming this window.

Cesc Appeal

MidWest

If Sanllehi has got this Saliba done the way the media are reporting that is a great signing.

I’m just holding out that they are all going to be in the US. If they have a meeting, which I imagine regardless of what is said there will be, if there is a discussion on transfers it’s more powerful face to face with your evidence laid out and nowhere for Kroenke to run to.

Bob N16

Agreed Cesc, as long as little money up front I’m ok with Saliba for next year ( not that I’ve ever seen him play). Without CL we have to be creative.

Agree Kay, move on to the next one….Tierney?

MidwestGun

I also like Saliba for the future. Like I said I see a hard reset more likely in a year.. would be nice to have him for when we can get rid of some of the defenders we have now.

salpardisenyc

Saliba good business if those are the terms, now lets get cracking on a CB to replace Mustafi that walks into starting XI.

I don’t disagree with needing investment .. but it’s Stan we are talking about not Abramovich. he is going to want to know if Raul and Co have done everything they can..that’s the bottom line. Because the news broke, Ornstein opened his mouth and suddenly every jock with an opinion piped up saying if Wan Bissaka went for £50 Million then Celtic should ask for way more.

Celtic are basically trying to milk this ridiculous transfer market. But the thing is he comes from the SPL and also there are slight concerns about his fitness especially in the EPL.

If Tierney wants the move and Napoli are the only other team then Sanllehi can take his time. If Spurs suddenly showed interest etc likely things would change.

You’re also a very strange arsenal fan. Very argumentative (coming from me I know) plus you have this weird problem with people sometimes being positive or getting ahead of themselves. It’s odd. Fans are usually happy with imminent signings

Receding Hairline

“Sven M has shifted out 11 players and brought in 4 already. Seems like he was a more important piece of the puzzle than we initially thought.”

At Stuttgart???

If yes, then it’s pretty easy to shift players at a club that has just gone down a division, they actually scramble to leave themselves

Marko

Would that be powerful evidence to ask for more money?

Hate to correct you Pedro but in Stan’s case it’d be some money not more money it’d be some money. Since owning us he hasn’t put anything forward and in the past that’s been okay cause we haven’t necessarily needed him to but this summer it’s pretty obvious that he could help.

Dissenter

Nah mate, I wouldn’t want to take that crown off your head.

Yesterday the argument was Pedro and I pitched against Marko, Marc, Cesc and several others.
Cesc Appeal has moved on, why are you still stuck there Marko?
It’s not your blog so I’m going to keep posting.

Bob N16

Marko, pay cuts may happen but when an agent has negotiated a juicy salary for his client to then take a pay cut is less likely an option. When the buying club can negotiate a smaller transfer fee then the agent and his player can take that chunk of cash as a signing on fee. AFC want these players off their books, they’re being paid high wages……the transfer fee we can get is therefore reduced. The player and agent maintain their wages.

salpardisenyc

Cesc

Why bash Mislintat for taking that gig?

Taking title of Sporting Director has more control with a club looking for full rebuild with decent budget, and i’d imagine the paycheck is solid.

vickingz

Have we signed anyone yet? Shifted anyone?? Ain’t a good time for arsenal fans

Marko

he is going to want to know if Raul and Co have done everything they can

Is he now? This is a guy whose approach to ownership was letting Ivan and Arsene do what they like without ever intervening or getting involved. And now in our time of need he’d look for assurances? It’d be a bit rich coming from him wouldn’t it be

Useless zaha in this match so far, can’t even go past a player

MidwestGun

Marko-
Think it’s fair to say.. Stan was the biggest AKB ever and trusted Arsene. The new administration really hasn’t earned that stripe yet I’m guessing. You keep saying time of need. I’m not sure Stan would agree with you either in that regard. I’m not a billionaire sports owner so can’t really see his perspective but I’m guessing all fans think every season is a time of need. Anyhow.. I would love for him to do something just not very optimistic about it.

Marko

Imagine the clog up is more related to Celtic and Palace playing hardball versus a desperate need for a £3m Stan IOU.

Maybe. Could you imagine though if it’s August 9th and all we’ve brought in is Tierney and Zaha. I wonder if we’re still talking about not needing to go to Stan to do something anything to help us out with our current financial constraints. I wonder if we’ll be happy with the summer if the argument will be we did all that we could do.

Receding Hairline

How many of our “dead wood” did Sven manage to shift in his time here??

Comparing shifting players on Stuttgart wages to the mess we find ourselves in is not a fair comparison. Many clubs will indeed want to sign our players but not on their current wages.

Cesc Appeal has moved on, why are you still stuck there Marko?

We’re talking about players never taking a pay cut to join q club for more first team football. Just forget it. From now on I’ll over look your opinions masquerading as facts and anything you say on Leicester

Marko

Marko, pay cuts may happen but when an agent has negotiated a juicy salary for his client to then take a pay cut is less likely an option.

That’s not remotely true especially considering the age of the player and the desire to play football. You think Elneny is interested in pissing away his career for about 50,000 a week? Come on man he’s 26.

Marko

When the buying club can negotiate a smaller transfer fee then the agent and his player can take that chunk of cash as a signing on fee I don’t think that’s how it works Bob honestly. The lesser transfer fee that they would be saving would go towards the buying club saving money on the transfer fee to pay for his wages but it wouldn’t mean that we would be giving it to the player or anything. Look I know more than anyone about how poor some of our players are and how tough it is to get rid of… Read more »

Receding Hairline

“‘how did he do in Crystal palace’…”

A very valid question.

Mysticleaves

Also players take pay cut all the time. Arsenal don’t even look in a hurry to offload elneny. they also just promoted Willock. He will just smell the cookie and go to wherever. We won’t need to pay him off. There are also numerous examples of players that have taken pay cuts to join other clubs. It’s not a must the selling club will compensate

Marko

You keep saying time of need. I’m not sure Stan would agree with you either in that regard Declining club with deteriorating finances is in serious need of champions league money and the only way that they can get in is to keep up with the spending of some (not all) of their rivals and apparently we’re talking about a budget of 45 million. salpardisenyc

Cesc,

For me taking the Stuttgart job, a club in for rebuilt doesn’t bode poorly on Sven’s quality. Not like its a nothing club lacking history, won the Bundesliga in 07. Sure Hitzlsperger whom played for that side played large part in getting him in.

Challenging project with elevated title, working together people he’s a history with. I do that frequently… but the title stays the same.

James.wood

Zaha 1-0

Freddie Ljungberg

“Emery loved Mustafi”

Common man, ffs. As soon as Sokratis settled down Holding got injured and it was Mustafi or a broken down, back from injury Kos, or a legless Monreal or a rookie in Mavro. Not many great options in there.

Marko

Emery loved Mustafi and played him all season, the club gave Elneney a new deal last March, and Jenkinson is not going to move to anyone… but he’s hardly the most pressing deadweight going.

That’s convenient when discussing the job Sven done but then you can hardly criticize the people still at the club for struggling to get rid of the same players. Anyway Sven couldn’t have done more last season to sell players? Really? I’m not so sure

Never liked Giroud but he’s not Mustafi levels of useless.

Don’t think we’re trying to shift Kola or Xhaka:(

Mustafi, Ozil, Mikhi is a hard sell though.

Mysticleaves

Giroud wanted to leave, made it public. McGuane wanted to leave, made it public. Sanchez wanted to leave, made it public. Coq and Walcott, agreed but Gazidis was behind those, not Sven, who was chief scout. Deal with it Pedro

Marko

I find it very weird that Sven Mislintat is still on this pedestal for some Arsenal fans. I mean he was responsible for the signings of Lichtsteiner, Sokratis and Mhikitaryan. He’s only really had two successful signings and he spent around 150 million. It’s odd I think held in such high regard but was overlooked by so many clubs. There’s a bit of a theme there

terraloon

The downside of ending a players contract by mutual consent ( code for his contract has either been paid up in full or the two parties have agreed a settlement) is that often these type of players still have an amortised value. Put another way if you have paid £25 million for a player on a 5 year deal and after 4 years he has his contract cancelled then you have to take a £5 million hit in the accounts. Daft as it may seem sometimes you have no choice but to let the player see out their contract or… Read more »
