Brain Trust begs Stan for money

by .

The summer is a time when internet heroes are made and destroyed.

‘IS HE LEGIT?”

‘NO WAY YOU SAID THIS IN 2019!’

‘GUY HAS AN AGENDA SMH’

Truth is, it’s incredibly hard to gain an accurate shake on transfer rumours because the stories are generated three ways.

Agents creating PR to make frantic scouts aware their players are available, or to instigate contract talks.

Clubs creating PR to shake up players and lower their price, to hawk interest in their own players, or deflect attention from what they are really doing with other deals.

TV, Press and Blog harvesting summer traffic. Le Grove numbers go through the roof in the summer, transfers are simply great fun… a mate of a mate… a rogue agent… a hopeful dream.

Then when transfers are real and actually happening, things can go south really quickly. So you might have had a nailed on story that falls apart and makes you look like a total wally.

It’s all a big mess, but the internet has made it more so because there wasn’t really that much of a market back in the day. Now you have millions of people partaking in the factory of information, so you have to tread very carefully to land the truth.

The Daily Mail is running with a story that the Arsenal Brain Trust is hassling Stan K for cash to push deals over the line this summer. This sort of information is golden, it’s elite dynamite that must have come from the very top… but it only gets 168 words?

Please… when I get good info, you get 2000 words here because if you’re doing PROPER journalism, the contact should give you the details that allow you to paint a vivid picture so it comes across as genuine in the media.

The guts of this story don’t add up to me. I think it’s pretty clear that the leadership of Ivan G lasted so long under Stan K because of one key attribute… he never, ever, went begging Stan for money. That must have been part of the deal, keep your mouth shut in the press, don’t harass on Whatsapp and don’t come crying for money every summer. Spend what you generate and not a penny more.

The idea that Raul and Vinnai are out there begging Stan for money is a touch absurd to me, especially so when the money they are asking for is to prop up a hugely inflated signing of a player that is 27 years old. We’re not out here trying to push Joao Felix over the line, we’re not begging for the chance to sign a player that could be worth £300m in 3 years time, we’re supposedly begging Stan to give us money to fund a player that’ll likely be worth far less in 3 years time than he is now. That is not good business when you are skint. Even Stan, with all his blindness to Arsenal, will understand the basic economics of this deal are risky and likely not worth it long term.

JUST AS A NOTE: I think Zaha would add a lot to our forward line. He’s a great player, powerful, skilful, a bit nasty… but be honest, who wouldn’t add more to our forward line than Iwobi? Zaha is a lazy next level for a club that talks about finding an edge with scouting, technology and youth.

Also, there is no way a club that’s been banging on about structure, the future and all these other bits could be in a situation a week out from preseason where they’re having to go back to their boss cap in hand. That would make them look highly incompetent, it’d make them look like they’ve not planned properly, it would damage their chances of progression long-term and the whole thing would have next to zero chances of success.

So in short, what I’m saying is this: Don’t believe everything you read.

The summer is playing out as we expected.

We are struggling to shift on our deadwood, in the main, because everyone knows we are desperate to move these players on. The prospective clubs buying are looking for a good deal and I’d imagine the players know that the lower the exit fee is, the higher their new salary will be.

We seem to be struggling to bring in players because we are fighting a chairman that has an inflated view of what Zaha is worth. He has to look strong in front of his fans after letting Wan-Bissaka go very early in his career, so he’ll make this like pulling teeth.

We’re also struggling because we don’t have a filled out structure at the club. Emery will be vying for power, choosing players is the ultimate control, we know he’s been scouting. Raul likes to get in the weeds with wheeler-dealer networks, so he’ll have ideas, despite not being a true footballing man. Edu will probably be CC’d into e-mails and have opinions. It’s a structural mess that probably has battling visions of what the future should look like.

Unai Emery is going to looking for players that can do the job now. The average age of his signings at Sevilla was a little over 27 years old, he targetted journeyman that the club could flip, what he’d get was hard work, grit and solid performances… that’s what he needs next season. He can’t fuck around with kids, he won’t care about bringing beauty to the field, he needs players that are going to drag the club to 4th.

Problem is, Raul and Stan K will know that this sort of approach to the game has a severe impact on what the football looks like. It stunts the growth of kids coming through the ranks. It carries high risk because older players make more money and then you can’t shift them if the idea fails.

We have just tried an expensive version of what Sevilla used to do very successfully and it failed. In fact, we are in season two of trying to buy our way to 4th.

I struggle to believe that Edu will be a technical director that wants to move in the Emery direction, but he’s not here, so we are where we are.

So there lies the challenge… a lack of vision, a lack of good people in the right jobs, clogged arteries in and out, and the slow cold of winter of reality settling in… we are a tier two club with tier 3 ideas of how to fix things.

What a miserable bastard I am… truly, I am so sorry you have to read this every day. x

P.S. Love Monreal, but the fact we’re giving him an extension tells you the trouble we’re in.

I keep having this feeling that zaha is gonna be a flop at arsenal. Honestly, he doesn’t appear to be clinical even in his so called “strengths”. He obviously thinks he’s some player whose play his teammates should rise up to

Man. People really don’t react well to someone drinking whisky and smoking cigars.

What you reckon? Are we going to sign 3-4 players more? Do you think we will close on tierney and zaha and Saliba? Do you think it’s worth signing Saliba now only to loan him back?

Ishola70

Son is two footed.

That is why he looks cuter than Zaha in and around the penalty area and has his head up more.

Sterling isn’t two footed but seems to have better confidence with his dribbling than Zaha. Again more aware with head up.

Zaha is good though first phase. Beating a player when he first receives the ball.

Are you wanting to paint Zaha as a worldie CC?

Receding Hairline

Ishola is just giving his take on a player re Zaha

Although calling someone a Xhaka lover and intending it as an insult is silly sorry to say

Xhaka isn’t a poor footballer by any stretch, just has weaknesses like 90% of other pro footballers

Ishola70

I can’t understand folks though who still defend Xhaka.

I don’t care if he can be better in Serie A.

We have him now at Arsenal and Arsenal have been suspect defensively for so long and Xhaka is one defensively suspect player.

Arsenal need Xhaka like a hole in the head.

3 seasons and counting is it even debatable what kind of a footballer Xhaka is? If not poor then at best average for us. Poor signing for us

Gentlebris

‘Xhaka isn’t a poor footballer by any stretch, just has weaknesses like 90% of other pro footballers’ Xhaka is a poor footballer….. very. He loses concentration often and has no particular skill sets. Xhaka boom? Well 90% of those would fly to the stand. He passes sideways and hardly would attempt to do one that finds a player running behind. He loses the ball in sensitive positions to gift opponents goals. And he’s just added a new one, tracking a player and waiting for the glorious moment to trip them inside the area. Xhaka is dross. We can’t even shift… Read more »

Gentlebris when it comes to consistent performers Xhaka is one of our better ones. He is easily our fifth best player behind the two strikers, Leno and whoever else you fancy. Whenever we have played without him we have not played better

Ishola70

Mytsic

Zaha uses his right foot many times when on the left when running with the ball. He feels more comfortable that way.

If you think Zaha shuffles the ball between right and left when dribbling frequently than you are hallucinating.

Go and verify it with Samesong who is a Zaha fan btw.

Cesc Appeal

Xhaka has positives without a doubt but I think a reason he seems so central to us is he is the only person competent in possession (unless pressured).

Our CBs aren’t good ball players, we have no wingers who can carry a ball and our CAM is a total pussy.

Xhaka is basically our most important possession player because he’s the only decent one.

This is what I’m saying about how many issues we have with this squad, poor defence, no width, no possession ability etc.

Ishola70

And I would add Zaha doesn’t look a natural when dribbling at players on the left because of this. It looks forced his dribbling on the left because of the right foot propensity.

This is only in regards to his wing play.

He can offer a lot playing across the line and not being rstricted to a wing.

People trying to explain why Zaha is not ‘that good’ are like folks stuffing burns into their face while claiming steak ain’t that great.

DOES ZAHA IMPROVE US?
Yes, and that’s the first thing you consider when signing a player. Finances, if not outrageous, are secondary.
I see us doing Zaha at a reasonable price. £55m top.
And that’s reasonable for a player who improves a top team in the Prem.

Marko

I don’t really care too much these days about people talking about the things Xhaka does good I’ve got Xhaka fatigue at this stage. All I do know is that since he’s come to the club we haven’t improved one jot as a team and in central midfield zero improvement. In fact we’ve gotten worse defensively which I think isn’t a coincidence at all. Individually he has cost us in many games that can’t be debated and just overall he’s not been a good signing. When you think about how we could have gotten Kante instead it’s really enough to… Read more »

Zaha unquestionably improves us

Come on. Iwobi, Mkhitaryan and ozil??
The question is wether he is value for money or not for a club who really needs resale value over the next 3 years

So by asking how you arrive at your ideas of “naturally two footed” wingers I’m some how ‘painting Zaha as a worldie’?

Strikes me as odd, very ‘agree with me or you’re full of shit’ type rhetoric. Zaha is regarded as arguably the best dribbler in the league statistically, but according to your account of him he only excels at bursting past people with speed and strength.

Linked with Kanemann again for 12m, could be the way we have to go at CB if we splash the cash on Saliba, 28 so not terribly old but never played in Europe before.

I think what Ishola has said about Zaha is 100% there is no agenda, no hating. Yes he has been one of the highest dribblers but he definitely isn’t a natural. If you watch Zaha he does a million stopovers so he draws the player to him draws the foul.

I don’t see him doing as much dribbling at Arsenal until he is comfortable with the set up. So he may play it safe to start off with.

Son is a naturally two-footed dribbler CC. Zaha is not best in class dribbling down the left or coming in from the left. The best dribblers coming in from the left are Son and Sterling. What is a “naturally two footed dribbler”, it’s a term I’m seeing for the first time today as you weirdly unpack Zaha from the ‘dribbling from the left’ space.

I THINK the best dribblers coming in from the left are Son and Sterling. Fixed it for you.

Both Auba and Laca spoke a few words in the press.

Laca:

“A club like Arsenal has to be playing in the Champions League every season.

“We will start to think about winning the biggest titles in a few seasons, but first we need to make sure we are in the Champions League consistently again.”

Auba:

”There was the FA Cup a couple of years ago, but now we have to aspire to more. We have a strong mentality to always move forward after any setback.”

These beautiful boys are going nowhere!

Zaha Auba Laca….. the front three!

Ishola70

Son is a naturally two footed dribbler.

Do you not see how he beats players in tight situations by the oppositions byline area into the penalty area by shuffling the ball very quickly between both feet on the left side?

That’s a two-footed dribbler.

Zaha is not on this level in beating players in that manner by and large.

Cesc Appeal

That still means a winger who isn’t a winger.

If Bellerin is out until October/comes back and takes an age to recover form (if he ever does) that means one side of our team will be bereft of any kind of width or pace.

If you’re not playing two up front it doesn’t work and two up front doesn’t really work for us either.

We’re just trying to get our best names on the field which is a real Wenger disease.

“Lol comparing some outliers a bit there aren’t you?…..fucking Messi? Really?”

Was actually embarrassed for him

21 year old Spaniard hiding out in Croatia who looks like he will be at risk at the first gust of wind compared to Messi and Santi, was compared to Modric just earlier

I rate a player so he must be good and i am a great scout. How many Zagreb games have you watched Marko??

I mean Receding seems to be dismissing Olmo on the basis of physical build so why not use the most extreme example of underestimating someone based on their size. Imo we’d be very fortunate to sign Dani Olmo considering that he’s apparently interesting quite a few far superior teams

Never understood the qualifying criteria of clubs needing to be in for talent, from a simplistic view obviously it’s easy to get. But really? That’s a reliable metric?

How many volleyed the door down for Salah? KDB? Mane? VVD?

Think it’s a lazy one tbh. Ziyech is classy, Zaha is a baller, couldn’t care less who wants them as they’d both improve us and that’s surely the only salient point.

I’m not disagreeing with your premise, but Receding is registering a fair critique there.

On the balance of things how many talents in the premier league (important context) overcompensate their lack of physicality for technical superiority? vs the guys that don’t cut the mustard because of inferior physicality despite obvious technical mastery?

I’d say it’s far more likely to see a ‘baller’ fail in the premier because he’s powder puff, than be good enough to thrive with the body of a schoolboy.

To me the girl playing the new sensation is being a bit gamesmanship going on…

I’m not disagreeing with your premise, but Receding is registering a fair critique there. I’m not sure it is though it seems to be quite a narrow view and not the first time he’s shown such when discussing a player. Made all the more funny is the comments about talksport and the like cause I’m pretty sure he’s barely seen the player if at all. But he’s lightweight but there must be a reason why quite a few big clubs are looking at him. Anyway probably just as well. I still think we’ve a very queer fanbase all the same… Read more »

Liverpool have held talks for Nicolas Pepe, I hope he turns out like Keita for them.

I’d say it’s far more likely to see a ‘baller’ fail in the premier because he’s powder puff, than be good enough to thrive with the body of a schoolboy. Not sure the physicality of the premier league is as important as it once was if I’m honest. Far less bruising no nonsense dirty teams knocking about these days. I think the physical aspect is more to do with the intensity and number of games rather than whether or not a player can stand up to whatever. In that sense does Dani Olmo have the fitness or the mentality to… Read more »
