Brain Trust begs Stan for money

by .

courtesy @allthatchas

The summer is a time when internet heroes are made and destroyed.

‘IS HE LEGIT?”

‘NO WAY YOU SAID THIS IN 2019!’

‘GUY HAS AN AGENDA SMH’

Truth is, it’s incredibly hard to gain an accurate shake on transfer rumours because the stories are generated three ways.

Agents creating PR to make frantic scouts aware their players are available, or to instigate contract talks.

Clubs creating PR to shake up players and lower their price, to hawk interest in their own players, or deflect attention from what they are really doing with other deals.

TV, Press and Blog harvesting summer traffic. Le Grove numbers go through the roof in the summer, transfers are simply great fun… a mate of a mate… a rogue agent… a hopeful dream.

Then when transfers are real and actually happening, things can go south really quickly. So you might have had a nailed on story that falls apart and makes you look like a total wally.

It’s all a big mess, but the internet has made it more so because there wasn’t really that much of a market back in the day. Now you have millions of people partaking in the factory of information, so you have to tread very carefully to land the truth.

The Daily Mail is running with a story that the Arsenal Brain Trust is hassling Stan K for cash to push deals over the line this summer. This sort of information is golden, it’s elite dynamite that must have come from the very top… but it only gets 168 words?

Please… when I get good info, you get 2000 words here because if you’re doing PROPER journalism, the contact should give you the details that allow you to paint a vivid picture so it comes across as genuine in the media.

The guts of this story don’t add up to me. I think it’s pretty clear that the leadership of Ivan G lasted so long under Stan K because of one key attribute… he never, ever, went begging Stan for money. That must have been part of the deal, keep your mouth shut in the press, don’t harass on Whatsapp and don’t come crying for money every summer. Spend what you generate and not a penny more.

The idea that Raul and Vinnai are out there begging Stan for money is a touch absurd to me, especially so when the money they are asking for is to prop up a hugely inflated signing of a player that is 27 years old. We’re not out here trying to push Joao Felix over the line, we’re not begging for the chance to sign a player that could be worth £300m in 3 years time, we’re supposedly begging Stan to give us money to fund a player that’ll likely be worth far less in 3 years time than he is now. That is not good business when you are skint. Even Stan, with all his blindness to Arsenal, will understand the basic economics of this deal are risky and likely not worth it long term.

JUST AS A NOTE: I think Zaha would add a lot to our forward line. He’s a great player, powerful, skilful, a bit nasty… but be honest, who wouldn’t add more to our forward line than Iwobi? Zaha is a lazy next level for a club that talks about finding an edge with scouting, technology and youth.

Also, there is no way a club that’s been banging on about structure, the future and all these other bits could be in a situation a week out from preseason where they’re having to go back to their boss cap in hand. That would make them look highly incompetent, it’d make them look like they’ve not planned properly, it would damage their chances of progression long-term and the whole thing would have next to zero chances of success.

So in short, what I’m saying is this: Don’t believe everything you read.

The summer is playing out as we expected.

We are struggling to shift on our deadwood, in the main, because everyone knows we are desperate to move these players on. The prospective clubs buying are looking for a good deal and I’d imagine the players know that the lower the exit fee is, the higher their new salary will be.

We seem to be struggling to bring in players because we are fighting a chairman that has an inflated view of what Zaha is worth. He has to look strong in front of his fans after letting Wan-Bissaka go very early in his career, so he’ll make this like pulling teeth.

We’re also struggling because we don’t have a filled out structure at the club. Emery will be vying for power, choosing players is the ultimate control, we know he’s been scouting. Raul likes to get in the weeds with wheeler-dealer networks, so he’ll have ideas, despite not being a true footballing man. Edu will probably be CC’d into e-mails and have opinions. It’s a structural mess that probably has battling visions of what the future should look like.

Unai Emery is going to looking for players that can do the job now. The average age of his signings at Sevilla was a little over 27 years old, he targetted journeyman that the club could flip, what he’d get was hard work, grit and solid performances… that’s what he needs next season. He can’t fuck around with kids, he won’t care about bringing beauty to the field, he needs players that are going to drag the club to 4th.

Problem is, Raul and Stan K will know that this sort of approach to the game has a severe impact on what the football looks like. It stunts the growth of kids coming through the ranks. It carries high risk because older players make more money and then you can’t shift them if the idea fails.

We have just tried an expensive version of what Sevilla used to do very successfully and it failed. In fact, we are in season two of trying to buy our way to 4th.

I struggle to believe that Edu will be a technical director that wants to move in the Emery direction, but he’s not here, so we are where we are.

So there lies the challenge… a lack of vision, a lack of good people in the right jobs, clogged arteries in and out, and the slow cold of winter of reality settling in… we are a tier two club with tier 3 ideas of how to fix things.

What a miserable bastard I am… truly, I am so sorry you have to read this every day. x

P.S. Love Monreal, but the fact we’re giving him an extension tells you the trouble we’re in.

Malcolm is still very young Ishola. Salah was a similarly irritating player at that age with a poor end product. If we are really serious about poaching someone from Spain it should be him. Not a him or Zaha scenario for me, we can do with both. Too much pressure will be placed on some younger shoulders if we don’t bring in first team ready wingers. I like Saka but a loan will be more beneficial for him if we can bring someone in. This idea we need to start playing 17-19 year olds in the first team or risk… Read more »

I see Edu formally resuming for day-to-day duty in August. Surely he needs a break after the hectic Copa America.
Hopefully working with the Brazilian set-up from close-quarters would have given him some good contacts with South American players.

The problem is we really have to start giving our youth a chance, nit just engage In tokenism.
If we are going to spend that much on Zaha then the likes of Nelson and Saka have to be his understudies, not just on paper.
We risk creating a disconnect between our main squad and the academy.

Mysticleaves

“Malcolm is still very young Ishola. Salah was a similarly irritating player at that age with a poor end product.”

Well, am not sure Salah has ever had poor end product. Except for the period at Chelsea where he didn’t play much

Cesc Appeal

If we could work out some sort of loan with an obligation to buy if Malcom makes a certain amount of appearances I would be for that. They need to shift him for funds but also because of squad issues I think and UEFA rules?

Zaha should be the top target for a winger.

If we could land both, even if Malcom took a chunk out of next year’s budget when payment became due I’d be all for that.

Zaha, Aubameyang, Malcom has the potential to be really good…also ZAM.

Just give us some f*****g money, Kroenke.

Ramos is unique because despite his penchant for acquiring cards, he’s a fantastic all-round footballer, great leader on the field and a world class defender. It’s like Messi, being one of the GOAT players but heading the ball is not his forte.

There’s no way one player wins 2 European championships, one World Cup. League titles and CL titles AS STARTER. ..and not be considered world class.

I know receding begs to disagree. I think his legs have been gone for the past two seasons now which is why he’s been trying to move to China.

I think you’re spot on. We spoke to Zaha last season if you believe some close to Arsenal, so it’s not outlandish to suggest this is a tactic discussed with Zaha for this summer now the chips have fallen as they have (no CL).

Zaha would be an idiot to cause a fuss with no concrete suitor. I’m inclined to believe Arsenal and Zaha are very much playing a game here.

Elneny is one of the shittiest players on our squad, yet Mystic likes him a lot.
Why?

Nelson

Emery’s priority is to save his job. He wants established players such as Zaha and Vazquez. But he should learn from last year’s mistake. The starting 11 should not play in the cup games until maybe semi final. Our players were physically and mentally tired at the end of last season.

Receding Hairline

“Elneny is one of the shittiest players on our squad, yet Mystic likes him a lot.”

Not really

To be honest i was surprised Emery did not give him more chances, i expected him to blossom under him. Elneny has a lot of good attributes and is pretty reliable even for his country Egypt. He does not hide and always makes himself available for passes. If he is serious about seeking more playing time he would not be short of suitors.

Just hasn’t worked out for him here.

Ishola70

The most impressive thing about Zaha is his intitial pace and strength when first receiving the ball and the ability to beat the opposing player when he first gets the ball which can open up the opposition straight away. On his actual wing play it can become quite predictable when he plays on the left as he does quite frequently with Palace because he always shifts onto his right and his crossing of the ball when on the left is nothing noteworthy. Dissenter,

I made obly two posts about virgins but they seem to make a lasting impression on your mind. But obviously you don’t have an unhealthy obsession on me. Even when I don’t post, you just have to keep mentioning me.
There is nothing wrong in finding me irresistible, but sorry, but I don’t swing that way.

Mysticleaves

Dissenter, again I don’t ‘like’ el neny. As receding has already pointed out, he has attributes that can benefit a coach. And Frankly, whenever he came on last season I thought he did well. It’s actually quite the opposite, you hate him so much, think he’s the most useless pointless player ever, why?

Dissenter

‘I made only two posts about virgins’
Who was doing the counting?
It was a lot more than two and everyone of them was as cringe-worthy as observing a grotesquely sick paraphiliac in action.

You own your record, same as everyone else.
I wasn’t lamenting when Mystic called me out just now.

Valentin

Ramos may be a leader on and off the pitch, but he has also hugely benefited from who he played for. Most of his shocking defending (I should say assault) would have resulted in instant dismissal if he were to play for lesser team.
There is also the fact that RM/Spain tend to dominate team and therefore do less defending. Yet despite that fact, his high number of red cards and suspension tend to indicate that the few time he has to defend he commits a disproportionate number of fouls.

Mysticleaves

“On his actual wing play it can become quite predictable when he plays on the left as he does quite frequently with Palace because he always shifts onto his right….”

Not remotely true. He goes wide to his left as much as he comes inside to his right

Valentin

Dissenter,

How do you know it was more than two? Have you counted them? Can you count more than two?
Do you read my posts about virgins at night thinking about my posts. Maybe that would explain why you think that there is more than two.

Mystic is here for arguments.

The poster who rates Xhaka.

Zaha frequently shifts onto his right when running down the left flank.

What he does try to do with his left foot is put in crosses from the left that aren’t that impressive.

All you need to do is watch Zaha run down the left flank taking players on to know this is not a player that is naturally two footed. He is frequently showing on his right foot.

China1

Is Zaha in and laca out really progress? Zaha would probably cost more than we’d make from laca and will probably get a fewer goals+assists total I don’t mind us selling laca but it should be because we’re upgrading. I’m not convinced Zaha is as good as people on here would make out, even if he is a good player He’s not world class, so should we really be throwing this much money and losing a very useful player in laca to accommodate him? Leedsgunner

Marcelo is suspect defensively but is excellent in attack… quite similar to Kolasinac. Plus he’s 31.

We need to lower the age of our squad anyways.

Save the money and buy someone at least 7 years or more younger. Tierney is a good player with a decent ceiling. Don’t get distracted and get the deal done.

Ishola70

Son is a cuter player overall than Zaha.

Sterling is a cuter player than Zaha.

This doesn’t mean that Zaha lacks subtlety because he does show this at times but he isn’t as clever as though two.

Where he is better than Son is when he first receives the ball and his initial pace and strength. This is the most impressive aspect of his offensive play.

I’m not so sure Zaha will get as many free kicks or penalties for Arsenal as he does for Palace.
I suspect that a lot of his drawn fouls may be reversed on VAR because let’s face it, he does dive a lot. Some are obvious dives with no contact.

That said, if the deal comes to fruition, then we need to invest in some very good headers of the ball because we will get a lot more free kick opportunities. I’m still unconvinced that they will be as many as Palace gets from Zaha.

All I have said is that he is not naturally two footed and it shows in his wing play.

Frequently shows on his right when playing on the left and as Samesong points out with his head down many times.

Players that are naturally two footed will lift their heads up more because they are more confident in their dribbling with both feet.

Anyhow to use Zaha and restrict him to a wing is wasting him. He can be effective and dangerous across the whole offensive line drifting.

So Bielik is already dross after having hundreds of first team opportunities at Arsenal and flopping I suppose?

And a Maitland Niles that has always been played out of position is also dross, same goes for Iwobi the only player we have who has combined ability to attempt a decent final ball and also take on a man.
