YEEEEAAASSSSSSSSSS!

What an unbelievable night for Arsenal.

We went away to one of the most devastating attacking teams in world football and nullified them.

We made them look average.

Arsenal used their physical advantage and made a Carlo team look like a group of school kids.

Emery out thought one of the greatest managers to have graced the game.

Our players held their focus and kept a clean sheet over 180 minutes.

We landed our SECOND clean sheet away from home in a week.

We took on a high-pressure game and DID NOT bow.

The players everyone said were Wengerfied stuck a big middle finger up to world and showed the way forward.

Arsenal demonstrated that they can rise to the occasion. We showed that we want to be in the mixer come what May. We delivered a stunning result.

I don’t want to overegg this, but fuck it, I am going to. This is what we bought into. This is why we changed manager. This is what we wanted.

The most important part of this week for me is that it is clear we have a manager that doesn’t have an ego when it comes to his methods.

How many seasons have we watched the same mistakes made over and over again? About 10. I almost couldn’t fathom the notion of a manager that would pivot. Someone who’d assess what’s going wrong and make a better choice. Someone who’d suck up their pride for the greater good of the club.

Last night was all about Emery for me. That’s his imprint on the team. It was fucking majestic.

Now we have to go on and make it happen again in semifinals against Valencia. Our season can still go to shit. The players need to retain focus. Nothing is won in Aprill.

However… I will savour this moment. That was a big night in Europe and we shone by playing the game, not the team. A tactical masterclass. ARSENAL DOING A TACTICAL MASTERCLASS.

Wonderful.

See you in the comments.

Billion pound industry
And clubs are allowed to wear kits that clash….again…..

What do you reckon 7 nil and a season ending injury to Son?

Would make me very happy.

Tony

Pleasure Pierre

I know Palace will fight hard; I just think being at home and with the recent wins, we should dispatch Palace, but………………..

I have been known to be wrong before so will keep the humble pie recipe handy just in case.

If it was an away game, I would think differently.

Also relying on Emery to be consistent with a good team selection and tactics.

3:1 to us is my gut feeling.

Marc

Sensible comment.

Leftsidesanch

I’d love it Marc,

Son, I have to admit is very good, already causing this City backline problems.

Jamie

Laporte, what a block.

Marc

Jamie

Looked like it was going to be a goal – great defending.

Jamie

Marc –

Totally. Son is lethal. Laporte mistimes his challenge and that’s a goal.

don’t know about the UK, but here in Switzerland, plumbers earn around 4500-5000 francs a month. That’s not bad money if you ask me. some thing like 25-35 francs an hour.

gonsterous

Looking at the game, I can see why city are favourites to win the title. They don’t have to go above 2nd gear to score a goal. Liverpool on the other hand, have to work harder when they face the top teams.

Dream10

You can see why Guardiola’s struggle in the last stages of CL. One of the best teams talent wise and little control of the game.
Ferguson’s Utd teams had the same problem in the 90’s and the first half of the 2000’s.

Jamie

gonsterous –

I believe it. One of my sister’s was born in Geneva, and the labour market there is distinctly different to that of the UK’s. I’m not disparaging the profession, but the irony of Don belittling another poster here for ‘being a postman’ shouldn’t be lost on anyone.

City are all over Spurs. A 2nd goal would end it.

Words on a Blog

Just as someone’s ethnicity, colour, sexuality or religion is irrelevant to this blog, their job/profession, “cultural sophistication” (whatever that is), level of education and proficiency with languages is equally irrelevant.

No one goes on a football blog to interact with polylingual opera lovers and we shouldn’t care less whether a commenter is a plumber or a postman or a jet-setting corporate raider.

Everybody should cool it down.

HighburyLegend

And mostly, everybody should support City today.

Jamie

And mostly mostly, what kind of heathen isn’t moved by The Marriage of Figaro? Let’s get serious.

Nelson

Son could have scored two goals in the first half. MC is not sharp today. The Pools are probably lacking their lips.
Son and Moura are fast runners. They rely on supply from Eriksen. Just hope that Spuds loses Eriksen this Summer.

Marc

Out of todays match day squad the Spud’s have announced they will listen to offers for the following players: Rose, Alderweireld,Vertonghen, Llorente, Janssen, Wanyama and Eriksen. Also on the list are Trippier, Aurier, Lamela and Sissoko. Now however much you rate the players that’s a huge turnover of fist team players. They are playing the revamp the squad card but a major part of the problem is wages – players want more than the Spud’s pay a problem that is not going to get any easier with the stadium debt. They are going to have to be very good /… Read more »

Marc

I think both teams look a bit jaded today – not to be unexpected after midweek. It will be interesting to see how the second half unfolds. If City were to drop points they would effectively be going out of two competitions in a few days.

Marko

Have to say , Emery’s touchline antics are slightly embarrassing..all that arm waving and pointing to where he wants the ball played to is pointless really , it’s just for show. I must say I loved this one from Pierre earlier. He’s embarrassed by Emery directed his players from the touchline but was absolutely infatuated by a man who wringed his hands and struggled with his zipper on the bench. Every. Single. Game. The fucker just sat there doing nothing until the 67th minute. Absolutely pathetic really. You’re just not used to a manager who actually does his job and… Read more »

Looking at the highlights, spuds played well. created chances, so let’s hope city puts a few more past them in the second half.

Jaime

yah, nah, no worries. The Labour market in Switzerland is very well payed. Though it leads to a lot of students not going on to university and everyone just heading to professional schools. Which has its perks, but they then you don’t see many Swiss doctors, most of them are from the neighbouring countries because there is so much gap in the market for those higher educated positions.

I have been telling you for a while njo tan Sounds are going to spend massively this summer from the proceeds of players sales.
They have so many high value players on then transfer block and could easily make £150 million from selling Toby Alderweireld, Eriksen and Wanyama.

Just three players can fund their summer business … it doesn’t involve the stadium in any way.

Dissenter

Marc
*I have been telling you for a while that Spuds are going to spend massively this summer from the proceeds of players sales

Marc

We don’t yet know how much money the Poch will be given from the proceeds from player sales. If it’s 100% plus some money then they are in a better situation than I believe. If they £200 million to spend £100 million it’s a different story. You also need to factor in selling those 3 players well 2 of them are going to need to be replaced by good players.

Jamie

Replacing Alderweireld and Eriksen with PL-proven talent isn’t going to be cheap.

Marko

Just three players can fund their summer business … it doesn’t involve the stadium in any way. This is not remotely true. I realize the times have slightly changed but you must remember us selling our best players and not all those proceeds went back into the playing side. Well that was when we moved stadium and we weren’t 600 million over budget and estimate. If you don’t think that will have a knock on effect then I honestly can’t help you. It’s was already having an effect they just went through two transfer windows without buying anyone. Now? They’re… Read more »

Where’s Eriksen off to?

Spurs is his level, as good as he is he’s not at the likes of KDB’s table.

WengerEagle

Nervy for Citeh when there is still only a goal in it.

Would be scenes if their quadruple fizzled out into the shittiest ‘double’ known to man at the hands of the Spuds in the space of a few days.

Marko

He has a year left on his contract as well. Any notion of him going for a 100 million is a pipe dream. Be lucky to get 50-60 million for him. And that’s being generous. United might pay it for him Barca won’t and I assume Madrid have bigger targets in mind this summer

Marc

Sterling’s got to bury that.

gonsterous

what a miss from sterling. Normally he’s so clinical.

WengerEagle

Come on Citeh, put this to bed ffs.

Bin Di[[ers winning the PL would be a horror show.

Marc

Marko

If they got £100 million for Alderwiereld and Eriksen they’ve still got to replace one of their most creative players.

Marc

City need to get their shit together or the Spud’s are going to sneak an equaliser.

Good point Jamie -Which makes giving Ramsey away for nothing a damning indictment of Emerys and Rauls

Rest assured Levy – ain’t giving their star players away for nothing.
He will demand Top Dollar!

WengerEagle

Marc

I can see Utd pulling off a draw, have a horrible feeling that Pool’s name is on the trophy.

Bamford10

Reports are that Bayern and Madrid are interested in Eriksen. No idea how much is in this or what they would be willing to spend on him.

Samesong

Gons

Stones ball playing centre back, has his moments but generally a steady defender.

WengerEagle

Eriksen’s not a big enough star for RM, also not an elite baller albeit is very good.

Marc

WE

God knows with ManU. Strange thing for ManU though is that they’d probably prefer City to win the league over the scouse vermin.

Marko

Don’t know what Pep is doing on the sideline there. Doesn’t he know the key to success is to sit down and to start fidgeting with his coat. He’s doing it all wrong

Jamie

CG –

Ramsey didn’t extend his contract with us because we wouldn’t meet his wage demands.

Paying him £400k a week is the kind of short-term thinking Arsenal can’t afford due to years of financial mismanagement.

Marko

I don’t see Madrid going for Erikson. They’re probably going to go hard for Hazard and Mbappe this summer. Maybe Pogba.

Dissenter

Bin dippers everywhere are anxiously waiting for that goal to drop

Dream10

Wenger Eagle

Eriksen lacks the flair of a top player, but he is quality. Two footed, great final ball, one of the top ball strikers and has a diesel engine. City,PSG would be great for him.
David Silva is past his best, De Bruyne is broken. Ndombele, Verrati, Eriksen would make a trio at CM.

WengerEagle

Yeah Marko, Hazard looks practically a done deal.

ZZ was quoted as saying he’d take Hazard to RM with his eyes closed when he was at Lille. Fair to say that he’s gotten just a little bit better since then.

Chelsea in a grim spot if they fail to secure CL.

There’s a big market for Eriksen , that’s why he will go for at least 100 million, even though he has one year left on his contract.

PSG, United, Bayern, Real and Barca said to be interested.

Spurs with their stadium debt and Chelsea with their transfer ban (and losing Hazard) missing out on the CL next season would make for a tremendous summer.

HighburyLegend

Lol the spuds.
No Son, no party.

WengerEagle

Dream

KDB looked fairly unbroken during the week though you have to say, was a pretty spectacular assist for Aguero’s goal.

I agree on Eriksen’s skill-set, guy’s a very good all-rounder on the ball and does everything well besides being wasteful in front of goal, his set-pieces have deteriorated too which can happen as we’ve seen with the likes of Ronaldo and Calhanoglu.

Lacks that extra spring in his step that separates the elite though, he struggles to go past a player.

HighburyLegend

Transfermrkt.com lists Ericksen’s transfer value with one year left on his contract as about £80 million.

Marc

I actually think the Spud’s might get £70 million ish for Eriksen. It’s not about is he good enough for Madrid etc it’s about the fact he’s one of the Spud’s best players who will have to be replaced.

WengerEagle

Agree Bamford.

Fact that he only has a year makes it all the more certain he won’t fetch a high price, I don’t think he goes for more than 50-60m even contracted up.

Jamie

CG – “With the greatest respect- utter tosh. He was not asking for that type of salary You know it. I know it.” I look at facts rather than supposition, and this is what I know. Ramsey was asking for the figure he received which, if the BBC is to be believed, is £400k a week. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47203118 We can’t afford to pay that kind of money to any of our players after Ozil was handed the most ridiculous contract in our history. “No other clubs give their star players away FOR NOTHING to better clubs. If they have . no idea how much ramsey was demanding but we were led to believe the deal was on the table but ramsey did not want to sign it. It got improved but gazidas left and it was removed from the table. That’s all we know.

So don’t see how emery gets the blame for that. He has some say on the first team but not Wenger like powers.

We need to win tomorrow, also if utd and chelsea get results, spuds could drop to 5th.

HighburyLegend

“Don’t fuck it up tomorrow Emery FFS”
Danny, you are well aware that it’s the players who play on the pitch, not Emery, right ??

Marc

The Spud’s have badly fucked up by announcing they are in effect having a fire sale of players. A chunk of those players are down to a year left so teams will just play hard ball.

Marko

PSG, United, Bayern, Real and Barca said to be interested.

Nah I’m not so sure about the 100 million or frankly that all those clubs are interested in him. PSG more likely to be interested in Ndombele for example Bayern more likely to be interested in Brandt or Havertz or Pepe for example. 100 million when better can be gotten for less. That ain’t Erikson

WengerEagle

Barca are hardly interested in Eriksen, they already have Coutinho who’s a better and more mobile player.

gonsterous

lol, penalty claim for tots, lol, Harry Kane said some thing along the lines of “it evens itself out during the course of a season ” when he got a penalty against us. Now they have got one against them and karma is just so sweet.

Leverkusen have plenty of assets, just like Eintract Frankfurt.

Havertz, Brandt, Bailey, Volland will all fetch a decent chunk of change, Bailey especially could be had for a bargain now compared to last year as he’s had a pretty poor season end product wise. Happens to young players, I’ve still seen enough that I really like him.

Kostic looks a really good player for Eintract besides the obvious ones in Jovic, Haller and Rebic.

That’s what Gazidas promised us – remember

Get in DB10, he used to excite me, or zidane.

Marc

Eh I don’t see it, he’s only 26 still with huge upside.

Malcom and Dembele have had similar struggles adapting, Barcelona are a different beast to any other team in Europe when it comes to bedding in. Prime Suarez is a freak, and even he didn’t explode until his 2nd season there. Same goes for Neymar.

Also the fact that they’ll at least want to break even and they overpaid for him because they were desperate post-Neymar.

Marko

Julian Brandt is 22 this season he’s been more deployed as a attacking CM and he’s flourished in the role. Apparently he’s available for about 25 million this summer. There’s no way Bayern for example would spend 100 million on Erikson when he’s available for that.

bennydevito

Yep Ramsey wanted more than Ozil. Never worth it and he tried holding us to ransom.

Good riddance to injured rubbish.

Bamford10

Yeah, I think they are overestimating his value there. WE is correct: he’s good, but he lacks the change of pace and athleticism of the best of the best. I don’t see anyone spending more than £55m on him. We will see, I guess.

Different player, but recall that some saw Dele Alli as a £90m player a year ago or two years ago. Do people see him as that today? No. £40-45m, tops.

Good players, not Hazard level.

Dream10

Bailey having a below average second year. Seems too much of a straight line runner with not enough finesse. The type of player Arsenal incorrectly will consider as a winger signing. Wonder if he can become a budget Vardy?
