BIG EUROPEAN GAME INCOMING

by .

Napoli fan after JENKO SCORES THE WINNER YEEAASSS!

Quick post today.

5 things I would like to see versus Napoli.

A fast start:

Napoli is a possession based team, they took a lot of the ball in the last game, but we mostly boxed them in. This rattled their squad and its confidence. Carlo acknowledged his team lacked sauce in the first leg, so I doubt we’ll see such a tepid performance from them tonight.

“Intelligence, I saw in both halves of the match. Heart is something we will put in tomorrow. We also need a significant dose of intensity.

“We must seize this opportunity, we need a positive mental attitude and, I repeat, a lot of heart. Napoli will put in a great display tomorrow – I believe we can do it.”

They couldn’t get their foot in the game because we disrupted their flow. We are not good enough to sit back as a team and let Napoli happen to us. We need to be offensive and play the protagonists today. That means hard pressing, that means mild violence, that means taking the initiative.

Patience:

This doesn’t run counter to the above, but towards the end of the home game, Napoli started getting in behind us with a little more ease. We cannot gift them counter-attacking opportunities, because this time, they will kill us.

Emery is on it… he gets it… because, you know, he’s paid to think about this sort of shit.

“We want to play thinking to win, thinking to score, thinking to push, thinking to stop them.

“Thinking also tactically to be together and thinking when we have the space to attack the space.

“They have a lot of players with a big quality to push against us and give us a lot of problems but we also have the players to fight against them with our quality.”

We need to be patient and smart about taking our chance, don’t offer up too much too early and sit on the backfoot. We need ONE goal and it’s likely done for them. Wait like a rattler… then strike without mercy.

Good Keeper:

Bernd Leno is without doubt, one of the best keepers in Europe at the moment. Switching up keepers in an important game isn’t always a smart idea, but Petr is a great man, he’s experienced and he’s been good to us this season. He needs to have a sharp game today, he has to play it safe on the ball and we have to pray 23 year-old-him shows up with the reflexes.

Ramsey/Ozil/Auba/Laca:

If those 4 have an immense game, then we come away with a win. Whatever the magic Lucozade sprinkling is to get those guys firing on all cylinders, let’s get a double dosage. I can’t deal with Spurs being within spitting distance of a Champions League final… unless we’re also going to be kings of a better kind of Europe. We need our best players to show up to the party. Ozil needs to be incisive and create chances for the front two, and Aaron Ramsey needs to show Italy what he’s all about with an absolutely BOSS performance.

Focus, focus, focus:

There can be no excuses this evening. Football is all about the big games. Napoli away in a quarter-final is a big game. There will be noise, there will be talent, there will be big players on show. The players need to absorb the magnitude of what is going on and bring their ‘I HAVE JUST DONE A DOUBLE DROP OF ADDERALL’ levels of focus to the occasion. Sokratis doesn’t need to land an early yellow card. Mustafi, honestly, you don’t need to drop that little shove after then 1st minute. Rambo, keep the fancy up the top end of the pitch. Auba, bury that first half chance.

Everyone needs to be at their best, we need to unleash the real Arsenal this evening, we need to have an epic night.

Let’s be havin’ ya! See you in the comments! x

Most wins in their first 50 games with Arsenal…

32 – Unai Emery
28 – George Allison
27 – George Graham
27 – Herbert Chapman
25 – Jack Crayston
24- Tom Whittaker
24 – George Swindin
23 – Arsène Wenger
23 – Don Howe

Paulinho How do you explain Klopp’s success at Liverpool then ? His team reached CL final last season and perhaps if Salah had not got injured would have won the thing. Pool are in the SF of the CL yet again. Even in the league, Pool has lost just ONE game so far and are poised to finish with 95 plus points. While I agree Klopp’s style is not a puritan style in the mold of say Wenger or Pep but he is tied to his style nonetheless. Also, do you really see Emery take us forward if his style… Read more »

Valentin, no. i think you got the 2005 final wrong. Like the Newcastle match. Our victory wasn’t by design. Firstly, I think we fielded an under strength team due to injury or suspensions (am not so sure on this) but we were absolutely battered. We had no plan at all.

There was another match against man Utd where we absolutely battered them, under Mourinho but I think it ended in a draw. Mourinho didn’t plan that too. We just overran them but were unlucky

Happy Easter Grovers 😎

“Like Pedro…….. make arsenal champions with a combination of ‘shrewd’ , cheap buys, more technical staff, project youth 2.0 and a new director of fruit juice.”

I wonder how much Ajex spent on transfer. Maybe the rise of Ajex has proved that Pedro’s vision can turn us into a team that can beat RM and Juv.

You’ve got absolute no idea how relevant this stat is, literally beyond words how lucky we are to have Emery,

I mean this must be a pointer he’s going to better the records of our most successful manager to date.

Charlie George

Nicely illustrated data.

Paulinho

TR7 – Klopp is a top manager more adaptable than Guardiola. They drop off more now than last season, and put the pressure on more selectively, whereas previously they would burn themselves out. Having VVD at the back allows them to sit deeper and soak up pressure more because he is so calm and good in the air. So even then, he needs to splash out mega bucks. I think Emery is by far the best guy to take us on during this period. Resourceful, adaptable, pragmatic, intense. Great appointment while we slowly try to find get back into europe… Read more »

Marko

I will say this it is refreshing to see Paulinho talk objectively about the manager and the club and not let the fact that they are letting go a favorite player of his influence his opinion. It’s a rare thing around here honestly

Charlie George

Does Victorious excellent data breakdown show that Emery did indeed inherit excellent foundations after all?

mysticleaves

TR7 – Klopp is a top manager more adaptable than Guardiola.

Yea very much more adaptable. No wonder he lost 5 or is it 6 consecutive cup finals both as favorites and underdogs.

I know who I would rather if money is not a problem for the managers

mysticleaves

“Does Victorious excellent data breakdown show that Emery did indeed inherit excellent foundations after all?”

No bro, it shows he inherited a team that finished 5th and 6th consecutively and managed to improve them both individually and mentally so much that he has a chance of finishing 3rd and wining EL

Marc

“Pierre is right in his assessment than strikers and CAM work harder than CM. They have more intense sprints per 90 minutes than defensive midfielders. CM tends to have more stamina.”

Oh dear. It’s a fucking good job no one told that to anyone managing Matt Le Tissier.

Marko

Does Victorious excellent data breakdown show that Emery did indeed inherit excellent foundations after all?

Nah. We finished 6th last season. Excellent foundation?

TR7

Paulinho

Fair enough. Honestly I try to assess Emery every week with a clean slate and without any bias but I just can’t help but be totally unconvinced by him mostly because everything looks so hotchpotch under him – style, formation and team selection. But he has done enough to get one more year. Let us see how it pans out.

Marc

“How do you explain Klopp’s success at Liverpool then ? ”

Google is clearly broken as I just Goggled what had Klopp won at Liverpool and it came up “fuck all”.

Paulinho

TR7 – You’ve took some criticism recently for your view on Emery but I’ve thought it was genuine opinion, rather than trolling – same with Dream10 – so I’ve no problem with you thinking he’s not the answer. I hope our transition play through midfield improves next season as it can be painful to watch sometimes, especially away.

TR7

Yeah,if from barely breaking in to top 4 to finishing a league season with 95 plus points and from not qualifying for CL to reaching final/semifinal of the competition tantamount to fuck all then he has achieved fuck all.

mysticleaves

Marc, lmao. Excellent retort

Marc

TR7

I don’t think the Scouser’s will accept a high points tally if they don’t win the league. The records will not record any other than who does win the league, if Liverpool go on and win the league then fine but there’s some sort of obsession on here with praising other teams for almost or nearly and slagging off Arsenal before the season is even finished.

What happens if City win the league and Barca or Ajax win the CL? Klopp said he’d need 4 years, well this is the 4th year. Emery was getting slated 3 months in.

Paulinho

“I know who I would rather if money is not a problem for the managers”

What a glowing endorsement of Guardiola’s coaching ability.

Been a while since Guardiola actually got to a final now.

mysticleaves

Need I remind you where how Klopp was doing before he spent massive money? How did you end up saying klopp was more adaptable? Cos of this season? Didn’t just sound right though

Marko

I would classify Klopp and Poch as successful for the job they’re doing but at some certain point you simply must have something to show for it. Spurs by all accounts making the Champions League semi final are having a good season but they might still end up with nothing and outside of the top 4. Klopp as good as Liverpool have this season could end up winning nothing but still have 90 odd points after spending 160 million last summer. It is right to point out as good as these guys are that they continue not to win trophies.… Read more »

mysticleaves

Barca are odds on to win the champions league and Man city are odds on to win the league so for all the praise klopp COULD still go trophyless and Guardiola end with 3 trophies.

Graham62

Ah yes it always comes back to “The Invincibles”.

Great times!

1876, what a year.

Emery didn’t “inherit excellent foundations”

He inherited a brand new 2018 house.

Shoddy workmanship, substandard materials and lacking in substance.

Emery is just trying to rebuild and is doing a pretty good job, all considering.

mysticleaves

Marko, couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s comical that people put Emery below Klopp and especially Poch

Marko

I don’t think the Scouser’s will accept a high points tally if they don’t win the league

They will they have no choice. This is as good as it gets for them. To be fair after last summers spend the expectation was at the very least challenge not necessarily expect them to win but I’d honestly expect the same from them again next season knowing the squad they have but they’ve gotta win something anything the next season or two otherwise you’ve wasted the great opportunity you had

TR7

Marc

Honestly, 98 out of 100 times, a 95 plus league tally wins you the league. Not sure anyone can blame Klopp if his team still misses out.

Valentin

So according to your statement Marko, Ramsey is more disciplined but run more. He also run more as a CM than a CAM. The problems is that the stats don’t support your argument. But nothing new there, when the facts don’t support your argument, the facts must be we wrong. Again using the same trick of twisting what has been said to make you look good. Pierre point was about the fact that Ramsey as CM run less than as a CAM. Personally I think that Ramsey would have been injured in either position, because it was a stretch movement,… Read more »

My son texted me after last nights victory and pointed out to me that he can’t remember the last time he had seen Arsenal look so “as one”.

That comes from someone who grew up during the Wenger heady days but had also witnessed so many disjointed performances over the past decade.

Well done Unai for giving my son some hope.

Paulinho

“Need I remind you where how Klopp was doing before he spent massive money?”

Winning titles at Dortmund?

Dream10

Thought we were okay yesterday. Quality strike by Lacazette which did the job. Koscielny and AMN good again. We did look stretched at times. Very happy that Napoli were below average for a large portion of the 180 minutes. If we play like this against Valencia, we’ll be knocked out.
