Hudson Odoi… he’s the boy!

Oh and we sung…

5-1 against Montenegro. What a night. ENGLAND are gonna win the next World Cup, aren’t they?

… back to Arsenal news. Big Kike Marin has BACKED Le Grove and the stance on hiring in your mates to do a highly specialised job that could impact the club for years to come.

“With all due respect to them, but that Andoni Zubizarreta and Robert Fernandez are sounding for the yes I find disrespect. Raül Sanllehí should consider where he is and have someone who knows the Arsenal and the Premier. It’s The logical thing, I say.”

Amen, let’s not get in there and raid Barca for the people they didn’t want. We don’t need a Barca-light model at Arsenal, Wenger tried that and failed miserably. Let’s try a modern Arsenal and hire the best man or woman for the job… not the only person out of a job in Raul’s Rolodex.

Amy L has a great piece on integrating girls into the boys training sessions at Arsenal.

‘This initiative is based on the simple principle of putting young prospects in the best environment for them to flourish. Per Mertesacker, head of Arsenal’s academy, is keen to point out it is not a token gesture. He feels there are benefits in both directions. It is not just the girls who are being challenged. “It started off by thinking of our club and what we stand for,” he explains. “How can we integrate everyone a bit better? We love the variety and we love the different challenges that you sometimes face – that a girl can take you on and sometimes win a duel against you. All these things struck me. It is lovely to see this thriving environment.’

“I remember back in my days it was normal to play with girls in opposition teams. I got on with it and it helped me to understand from the very beginning how important it is to be first of all capable but also to be humble and respectful and disciplined. That’s what we are trying to achieve with these youngsters, to prepare them not only for a football career but also for reality. Women and men are both highly capable.

Sounds like a mighty fine idea to me. If it’s fair, why not? It raises the bar for everyone if the best talent is playing together, and it also ensures the girls land the same opportunities to receive great coaching as the boys.

This is WELBZ dropping some banter… little bit stale now mate, but look, you’ve had a rough time, so we’ll let it slide. Just don’t bring me the Fortnite dance tomorrow or we’ll have to have words.

There’s a delightful story doing the rounds that Liverpool are going to ditch Naby K for very little this summer. Sure, he’s been average, but he’s an explosive player. If we’re thinking about replacing Aaron and he’s around, I’d be all over that sort of a move. Surely a nonsense though? Just an agent trying to force the club to commit? Probably…

We’re tracking Charlton player, Joe Aribo, who plays in left midfield… Jenks is at it again, right?

I haven’t seen him play, but the last time I got excited about a lower league talent it was Bramall and that didn’t really work out, did it?

Right, that’s me done. I am so over you and your attitude. Let’s thrash it out in the comments once and for all.

Really concerned about our summer plans. Our organisation at the top is not order.
    ___________
This…. Yep… add me to that list.. My main concern is Ozil contract and inability to move him.. Will be either an excuse or a reality? Hard to tell without knowing what we can spend.. But whether we make CL and this inflated payroll situation will determine our summer. We need to get at least 4 impact starters. Imo. Maybe 5 if Ozil is moved on. I’m expecting Ozil to stay and another season of Pierre banter.

But with the messed up transition.. plans on what the Club is doing in that regards seem sketchy at best.

  2. Words on a Blog

    MidWest

Expect another season of Pierre banter, whether Özil stays or goes.

If he stays, we’ll get the stats that “prove” he’s our best player.

If he goes, and is replaced by Specialsauce Other, we’ll get narrative that “without Özil, the team lacks creativity. .Specialsauce Other doesn’t quite cut it for me. Here are the stats comparing him to Özil which show how much better Özil is……”

  3. Marc

Think it’s unlikely we’d move AMN on this summer – we’re already losing 2 “home grown” players. Even if it’s a swap we’re probably going to need to add home grown players,

  4. Pierre

Ozil should go if he is allowed to leave

The problem is , Emery has realised how important he is to the balance of the side and there is a good chance that he won’t want him to leave.

In a way it was understandable that Emery struggled with seeing the positives in Ozil’s game as it was all about run , run and run some more when Emery first arrived.
Thankfully and to his credit he realised the errors of his ways and now realises that possession, letting the ball do the work, intelligence and composure on the ball is of tantamount importance for a side to be successful.

in hindsight, the defeat away to Bate was the best thing that could have happened to Arsenal football club as we were on a road to nowhere after 7 defeats in 14 games.

Emery made the call to reinstate Ozil ( and Ramsey) to the team and the results and performances have improved dramatically so fair play to Emery for swallowing his pride.

  5. Luteo Guenreira

Regardless of whether any of the bile spewed above me is true or not, if anyone offered any decent amount of change for Ozil he would be shown the door faster than Victorious’s mom after the last guy cums in a gangbang.

  6. Upstate Gooner

    Mid , Words

Let me ask you both this question: If you are Ozil, are you leaving? I thought so… he stays, whether you guys like it or not. And who can blame him, really?

  7. Pierre

    Luteo guenaria

So I post a comment praising the manager and one of our players and you think it’s “Bile”

Your comment of “faster than Victorious’s mom after the last guy cums in a gangbang.” shows your level (gutter) .

Each to their own I suppose.

  8. Luteo Guenreira

    Pierre

If you consider those backhanded compliments of Emery as praise, then colour my characterization of the Victorious family matriarch’s daily trysts as a compliment as well.

  9. salparadisenyc

    Agree,

Ozil isn’t going anywhere, barring a shocking offer from the elite w/ Rauls mate Zubi fresh from Marseille pulling a total madness in his first Arsenal window.

Mothers and LeGrove shouldn’t really mix mate.

  10. Luteo Guenreira

Fine. Not his mom. Him. He Victorious himself would get shown the door very quickly after the last guy finishes on him in a gangbang. Better?

  11. Pierre

Praise indeed, and richly deserved praise for getting our season back on track .

It could have been very easy for Emery to dig his heels in to prove a point but he didn’t so fair play to him , the team is back on track and that’s something that couldn’t be said a month or so ago after the Bate defeat .

I can see us having a very good end to the season ( with a few blips) with a top 4 finish and a possible European final .

  12. MidwestGun

Let me ask you both this question: If you are Ozil, are you leaving? I thought so… he stays, whether you guys like it or not. And who can blame him, really?
    ________
I can blame him.. hahaha Sure I can… How about sign a big contract and actually try and play up to it.. ? I Know novel idea right.. Anyhow as I said I don’t expect him to move.. But it’s one of the biggest dark clouds hanging over the summer Transfer window.. whether anyone likes that or not.

  14. Luteo Guenreira

How is Lavezzi 6th? Aaron will be joining that list in the summer.

Arsenal will need to find a replacement for Ramsey, who along with Leno have been the two best players of the second half in my opinion.

If Ramsey keeps this level and stays healthy he will do very well in Serie A. Best of luck to him. Last kit I bought was his 16, don’t want to think about what happened to that shirt.

  15. Upstate Gooner

“How about just play like the top 10 ten highest paid player in the world.”

It’s not a question of how much he gets paid vs how much he produces on the pitch. Ozil got a very lucrative contract by people who were making those types of decisions at the club, and they obviously thought at that point that it was deserved. That’s not what I’m trying to debate here though. All I’m saying is that you, me, anyone else really in his position would ride it out all the way to sunset. If I’m him, you’d have to drag my dead body out of Arsenal’s training ground. If I’m him, I’m collecting every single paycheck until the contract is up. There’s no way he’s getting that type of money anywhere else bar China, and I’d bet my lifesavings he won’t move there. So this whole “sell him”, “ship him”, “get rid of him” talk is pretty much useless. He ain’t going anywhere.

  16. Upstate Gooner

    Luteo
Ramsey is not going to be anywhere near that list. That 400k per week number that was reported by several media outlets was very deceiving. This was discussed here in detail. In reality, it’s somewhere near 220k, if I’m not mistaken. Not bad for Rambo but still not exactly Elite money.

  17. Pierre

    Lut guen
“Arsenal will need to find a replacement for Ramsey, who along with Leno have been the two best players of the second half in my opinion.”

It’s worth pointing out that in the 2nd half of our 45 games this season , Ramsey has only started 9 games out of 22/23 ..so he has started less than half ( closer to one third) of our games in the 2nd half of the season .

Could he be one of our 2 best players playing such limited amount of games …..debatable.

However , he has played very well in centre mid in the last couple of games so I would expect him to be a regular starter from now until the end of the season.

  18. Luteo Guenreira

    Upstate

You’re right, I was thinking of the erroneous amount that was first reported. He would have been in the top 5 with those figures, above his level. He should still be on that list somewhere around 20th-25th even with that lower salary though.

  19. Guns of SF

Yes Rambo basically doubled his wages. At this stage I think it was a no brainer for him. Better weather, food, etc etc etc

  20. Luteo Guenreira

    Pierre

I think no one else has stood out to even deserve a mention, so Ramsey gets the notice from me. Impact has little to with frequency sometimes.

Like you, you’re old and here daily. High frequency of days lived, high frequency of words posted around here. Yet still so ineffectual in ways that matter.

You must be one hell of a passive-aggressive flit in real life. Lol.

  21. MidwestGun

It’s not a question of how much he gets paid vs how much he produces on the pitch.
    _______
Actually this is exactly it because it impacts who we can sign… Whether he wants to go or not is immaterial… Clubs have ways of moving players to deny that is pretty naïve. Alexis Sachez won’t be at Man. U next season.. He is pretty high on list. Also… you are wrong not every professional althlete just rides out their contract … and collects money., The ones that care about winning don’t cripple their club.. Examples: Tom Brady .. MJ .. many others who didn’t take max money so their Clubs could win. I agree though Ozil most likely will. try and bleed it out.. Hope he likes playing with lesser quality players.

  22. Upstate Gooner

    Mid
You missed this part: “That’s not what I’m trying to debate here though.” Again, I’m not talking about whether his salary matches his contributions. I’m just saying that it will be hard, if not impossible to move him, is all. Love him or hate him, he’s staying.

  23. salparadisenyc

    Cesc Fabregas on Patrick Vieira:

“I saw him again recently when Monaco played Nice. It was funny we were in the dressing rooms & he turned to the Nice President & said: “This is the kid that forced me out of Arsenal.”

  24. Zimmie2652

Please, Juve and Italian media are trying to downplay their mistake of signing Ramsey to those astronomical wages. They don’t want to upset the dressing room imbalance that a player generally viewed as average/underperforming the majority of his career is raking in that sort of dough. In the land of conspiracy and skepticism here on Too Many ALE-Grove thought this would be known by now.

  25. Marko

Ozil is 100% off in the summer. No way we keep him he’s contributing next to nothing getting worse and no one wants him kept on. It might cost us money to bin him but needs must

  26. Dissenter

    Marko
It doesn’t work that way though.
It’s hard to force out a massively overpaid player who has little motivation to play.
I’m curious as to how United will force out Sanchez without paying off his contract.

  27. MidwestGun

I think Ozil will still be here as well.. but my original point will still be valid.. none of us will like it if it cripples us this summer and to Dreams original point .. I don’t know if in anyone in upper management knows what they want to do or how to do it. I mean best case scenario he starts tearing it up and playing like a world top 10 player.. but I would not bet even 10 bucks on that.

  28. Marko

As for the Ozil ain’t going to move stuff because he gets paid 300,000 a week and he’ll ride it out nonsense well he’s got sponsorship deals with Mercedes Benz, Beats and Adidas how long do you think they’ll still be associated with him if he’s not playing regularly or completely dropped? Adidas in particular because his contract is up with them in 2020 and if he’s not playing football that’s going to be a problem for them or anyone else he thinks might take him on

  29. Marko

Dissenter it’s short sighted to think that someone aged 30 on 350,000 a week with what 2 years left would risk not playing regular football for said two years just to pocket the wages. He stands to lose more money if he doesn’t play for the next two seasons. Not only in sponsorship but two years down the line when he’s looking for a new club no one serious is going to want to touch him

  30. Marko

I don’t know if in anyone in upper management knows what they want to do or how to do it

It’s a no win situation alright. I mean they were trying to force the issue all season long and yet you still remarkably had absolute dickheads complaining about the useless tadpole being dropped. Way I see it they hated the manager more than the player. I firmly believe that you’ll see him off though he’s still young enough that you can fool a team into taking him for a few years and he himself probably thinks that at 30 he’s still good enough to play regularly at a decent side

  31. Nelson

Some after thoughts from today’s game.:
    – The players seems to be more comfortable playing 3 CB’s with 2 wing backs.
    – Mavropanos has moved ahead of Mustafi and should be the first back up to CB’s.
    – Suarez can be backup to Iwobi or Mikki.
    – AMN is more effective as wing back than as midfielder.
    – Jenkinson can be an emergency wing back.
    – All other youngsters featuring today are not ready to play in the first team.
    – John-Jules caught my eye. I like his pressing and tackle. He can model his game a la Laca.

  32. Words on a Blog

Özil is still likely to be overpaid and over here next season. I can’t see another team taking on his wages; and I can’t see us subsidising his wages or paying him off to go.

He’s a luxury player, inconsistent in terms of determining the course of a game when things aren’t going well, but still nice to have if you can afford him for all the reasons that Pierre has rehearsed endlessly.

That only has the potential to be a problem in terms of the club’s financial ability to bring the right quality new players in if we’re out of the Champions League.

If we’re in the CL, we can afford him. And anyway, as Pierre will tell you, ever since Emery changed his mind about him in recent games, he’s (sorry) like a new signing…….

  33. salpardisenyc

    100% out… ok Marko.

At the moment Ozil is playing regular football, featured in our last 8, which we’ve won 6, drawn w/ Spurs and the loss to Rennes away.

Interesting to see what happens with him this summer, if in fact Emery wants to cut shot.

No easy task for new man in.

  34. Pierre

    Nelson
“– Suarez can be backup to Iwobi or Mikki.”

Suarez is a better footballer than iwobi , I would keep Saurez and sell iwobi .

  35. Marko

And anyway, as Pierre will tell you, ever since Emery changed his mind about him in recent games, he’s (sorry) like a new signing…….

Since he’s come back into the team since his self imposed exile he’s contributed one more goal to his season’s tally (he’s up to 5 now for the season) and one more assist (for a whopping 3 whole assists all season) so this idea of him turning up in recent games is genuine horseshit.

  36. Batistuta

Some crazy games in Euro qualifications tonight…. Switzerland bottling it after they take Xhaka off and an absolutely mental game between Norway and Sweden…..Have to say, I’ve quite enjoyed the international games during the break

  37. Pierre

    Marko
“Ozil is 100% off in the summer. No way we keep him he’s contributing next to nothing getting worse and no one wants him kept on. It might cost us money to bin him but needs must”

    2 more years of Ozil.

2 more years of whinging from Marko ,dissenter Mid West and the rest 😂

  38. Words on a Blog

    MidWest,

I like Özil, frustrating as hell, but able to turn any game if he’s in the mood.

I don’t hate Özil, and I’m happy to defend pretty much any current Arsenal player from all the haters out there….EXCEPT FOR MUSTAFI WHO HAS TO GO

  39. Marko

No easy task for new man in.

For a replacement? Ah you can replace him easily enough. Or do you mean the new technical director? Should be easy enough. You tell him under no uncertain terms that we don’t want him and that if he decides to stay that he won’t be picked. You tell him that he will not be registered for any squad lists and see what he does. You tell anyone thinking about signing him that in this current market they can have him for next to nothing which should cover some of the potential wages. That should be enough

  40. Batistuta

Bosnia and Switzerland are fucking pricks by the way, should have cashed out though but still utter useless teams that lot….I mean how do you bottle a 3-0 lead Switzerland HOW

  41. Words on a Blog

MidWest, I predict that you’re condemned to debating the merits and demerits of Özil with Pierre and others for the next two years!

  42. Guns of SF

Emery is trying to give him some game time ( Ozil) for potential summer suitors.
He wants his ass out of the club- dont be fooled by his quotes in the media.

Ozil is taking the salary of 3 really good players… which is what we need.
Unless he takes a 250K pay cut…. sell his arse

  43. NW 9 gooner

Marco- you are being juvenile in your hatred for Ozil . You point to his goals and assists numbers ( which are by the way better than Keita’s and Meyer) and don’t acknowledge the fact that the team has been on a run since his reintegration. You seriously think that the club will do what you are spouting.

  44. Marko

2 more years of whinging from Marko ,dissenter Mid West and the rest

Pierre I wish I knew you for real not only would I slap you upside the head on a regular basis for being such a dickhead but I’d love to make some sort of a real wager with you that he’ll be gone in the summer. I’m so fucking confident of it. He’s been that bad and literally no one at the club wants him kept on

  45. Pierre

I would of thought all you supposed Arsenal supporters would be happy that since Ozil has returned to the team our results are

    3-0
    2-0
    5-1
    2-0
    3-0
    1-1

With one bad result away to Rennes where the manager cocked it up tactically after the red card …up until that point the game was a stroll .

But no , all we get is whinging because they are being made to look like mugs and are continuing to look like mugs because they can’t bring themselves to admit that we are a better football team with Mesut Ozil in the side.

  46. salpardisenyc

    Guns

Emery is trying to bag the coveted top four, Arsenal’s birthright.
He’s playing his strongest starting XI, that includes Ozil at the moment.

  47. salpardisenyc

“I’ve been whining for more then 2 years,, sheesh… I’m not an amateur Grover..”

    Another birthright.

  48. NW 9 gooner

I love Ozil but agree that without him in the club and if we get two good first team players we will be better off . With Suarez likely to take Ramsey’s place two good wide players will be very welcome

  49. Marko

don’t acknowledge the fact that the team has been on a run since his reintegration

I would argue players getting fit and certain players like Koscielny getting into some sort of form have contributed more to the recent run. Ozil has contributed one goal and assist and some other questionable performances. Ramsey and Mhiki have been far more influential

  50. Pierre

we were a better side with Ozil in the team during our unbeaten run ..

7 defeats in 14 games and Ozil didn’t start one of those games …

Since he came back the team start performing.

  51. NW 9 gooner

Marco “no one in the club wants to keep him”?
You are trolling now or you have a direct line to the CEO

  52. Marko

Ozil was not really an influence in this recent return to form. It was more the manager that you love to criticize

  53. Leedsgunner

Unless the club is willing to lose literally a mountain range of cash, we are not going to move Özil elsewhere.

The best way forward is to bring out the best out of Özil and resolve never ever to offer such monstrous deals on such a no strings attached basis.

It would be inconsistent in the extreme if we say on one hand we want to stop losing key players like Ramsey on free transfers than we proceed to push one of our key players like Özil for next to nothing.

Yes, it is maddening that Özil is so inconsistent but based on his current wage and age we will not realistically move him.

  54. Marko

The best way forward is to bring out the best out of Özil

What does that even mean anymore? Why do people keep saying it it’s been over two seasons of declining performances and statistics and you make it sound like it’s the club’s fault and that it’s our fault for not getting the best out of him. It’s frankly shameful cause the degradation of the player is totally and utterly down to the player himself

  55. Pierre

    Marko
Emery is using Ozil the correct way and I applaud him for it .

He now plays him when he should be played , he substitutes him when he should be substituted and he leaves him on the bench when he should be on the bench.

I would imagine he will start most games ( if fit) , maybe the Burnley away game is one to leave him out and possibly one other away game but I would imagine he will play in the Europa games so the manager may rotate.

So yes , our manager is getting it right at the moment regarding Ozil whereas wenger often played Ozil or kept him on the pitch to the detriment of the team.

  56. NW 9 gooner

AMN is more than an adequate WB/RFB , his speed of recovery is amazing actually. I am sure that the links with Crystal Palace’ s full back is just click baits. We have more needs elsewhere considering our limited funds.

  57. Marko

Emery is using Ozil the correct way and I applaud him for it .

And yet he still continues to decline. There is no right way or wrong way to play him anymore cause the result is the same the performances are still inconsistent and average

  58. salpardisenyc

“It was more the manager that you love to criticize”
    Marko

I’ve no agenda, when Emery was lining up without Ozil or Ramsay for that stretch we looked poor. Results suffered, his tactic for discipline or whatever the ban was backfired with team not able to step into fold and cover.

Many called him on it, along with me. You took / always take offense to any Emery criticism which I found hilarious after our similar views on Wenger.

The term Emery Ultra was born with you, and clearly still holds as its become you’re agenda.

  59. Marko

We have more needs elsewhere considering our limited funds

Our current RB options are Bellerin, Lichtsteiner, AMN and Mustafi at a stretch. When everyone is fit there’s an argument for still needing a better RB. We absolutely need one with Bellerin out for the foreseeable future and with Lichtsteiner being so shit and leaving and then with Mustafi hopefully leaving we absolutely need a RB.

  60. Marko

Many called him on it, along with me. You took / always take offense to any Emery criticism which I found hilarious after our similar views on Wenger.

First off absolutely have an agenda even someone with basic comprehension can see that you have. Secondly I don’t take offense to Emery criticism I don’t even take offense to bullshit or outright lies more irked by them. You see when you say something like Ozil was banned from the team by the manager it has total disregard to reality and common sense and it doesn’t take into account the amount of game time missed by the player making himself unavailable. You instead say that the player was banned. I’m not sure that you’ve ever acknowledged that he’s missed games due to “illness” or “back ache” cause it doesn’t fit in with a certain narrative that you and others have got going on. I personally don’t care for the manager I’m a firm believer in common sense and fairness though

  61. NW 9 gooner

Salp agreed. We were so bland without Ozil and Ramsey. And results also were poor. Ozil goes or stays, at the moment we should just concentrate on getting into top four and if we win EC nothing like it. More than 20 years since we won in Europe. If Ozil helps is in this mission then he is worth his salary

  62. MidwestGun

Ozil was always a better option then Iwobi, Miki or AMN or whomever we tried to use as #10 type.. so yeah the team is better with him…not saying much but if we want to actually compete for a PL title and be competitive in the CL he would have to play up to his pay wages.. and that is the issue. and that it hinders us in signing what we need unless we go bargain hunting. If that’s whining then Im a whiner.. cuz Im not satisfoed with his productivity when we could find the same for much less.. and again he is getting paid as the10 th best player in the world..he isn’t even the best player on our own team.

  63. NW 9 gooner

Guys assume we get top four. With Cl money, 70 mil available (same as last year) and sell of players 40mil whoever they may be which players you want

  64. Marko

Midwest you’re not a whiner if you point out how poor Ozil is. It just means that you have no problem with acknowledging facts and reality. The vast majority of Arsenal fans are exactly like you. There’s nothing wrong in wanting better for the club

  65. salpardisenyc

    Mid

Ozil frustrates no doubt, if club can maneuver him out and upgrade i’m all for it.
Realistically don’t see it this summer.

My view similar to Leeds, get most out him whilst he here.

Currently i’m not going to throw stones at side that finally turned United at home on their form.

  66. MidwestGun

I don’t know who I want.. don’t really keep up on availability of players and scouting stuff. but I know positions where we need better starters. LB, CB, CM, Winger. and RB we need at least a temp… solution depending on Bellerin. So 4 or 5 players, imo.

  67. MidwestGun

So upgrades on Monreal, Mustafi, Ramsey/Ozil? replacement, and better winger type then Iwobi or Miki.. then I would be happy .. but most likely I would still whine about something.. that’s what we do here.

  68. MidwestGun

I would say Monreal is ok for cover at LB and CB.. but he doesn’t have the pace to track back anymore, imo and we would be susceptible to pacey wingers down his side. Sarr amongst others have taken him apart recently.

    I repeat again
no one is paying Ramsey 400k a week. this is all English media report which was rubbished by all Italian media after hearing juve themselves. but no arsenal fans will believe English media over Italian ones because it is their golden boy they are talking about. well Ramsey is going to earn 160k after tax at juve. period. believe what you want it doesnt the facts.

I am 100% sure that Arsenal would like to offload Ozil in the summer transfer window, but the reality is that it will take two to tango.

Ozil has two years unexpired on his contract at the end of this season. So the cost of his wages is £36,400,000 based on his present salary. Can anyone see Ozil or more importantly his agent foregoing that deal? Frankly that is highly unlikely.

We know already that no club in Germany would be likely to recruit him following the baggage pre World Cup. Somehow I doubt that there is any club
in England more particularly in London who would want him factoring in his age , performance and wage bill.

So the only possible options might be Italy and Turkey. However, I doubt that
there is a single club in both those countries able to pay that sort of financial
package let alone a transfer fee.

The only way that I could see Ozil moving is if Arsenal are offering a sweetener i.e. compensating the player a significant part of his contracted wage bill. Realistically that could be a “write off” of at least £20 million.

Would Arsenal be prepared to do this on top of allowing Ramsey to leave at
end of this season on a Bosman?

Everybody knows that Arsenal’s management [Gazidis and Wenger] have made a pigs ear of transfers and contracts before their departure, but it would
take a very brave management team to write off £100 million loss on these two
    players.

Somehow I don’t see Ozil leaving this summer. If it happens I think that it is
more likely to happen in 2020 when the write off will impact less on the balance sheet.

The link above is a very reliable source.

It shows Ozil earns 300,000 ( not 350,000) ……still way too high.
    Mhkitaryan earns 120,000( not 180,000)

Their contracts run to 2021 so we are 12 million better off already.

As for losing 100 million through Ramsey and Ozil leaving on a Bosman, it’s swings and roundabouts really , let’s say for arguments sake we bring in Rabiot and Ander Herrera on a free then it evens itself out more of less.

    So what?

This is an Arsenal blog, or had you forgotten?

I’m also English, so if I want to highlight the recent positives on England, I’ll do it.

As for my Wenger narrative, most of my posts are in response to others on here who highlight things that warrant a reaction so suck it up.

I’m not on here to make people “happy” although I do find it beneficial to break away from the norm on occasions to talk about other things.

If we all agreed on things or sang from the same hymn sheet, it would be bloody boring on here.

    Wouldn’t you agree?

  77. Xavier

Am I hearing here that Liverpool are willing [or planning] to offload Naby Keita at a throw away price? Naby K is a massive massive player. It is mystery why he has seemed average at Liverpool.

  78. Emiratesstroller

    Pierre

You are making an assumption that Arsenal are interested in both Herrera and Rabiot.

Herrera will be 30 next season and somehow I don’t think that Arsenal should be taking on yet another Man Utd cast off.

Rabiot is a different matter. There is not a lot of evidence that Arsenal are interested in this player and more importantly that he wants to come to us.
In any event he will not come cheap and I think that the real problem will be
his wage demands. Arsenal seem to be lowering the wage threshold to below
    £200K pw.

  79. Nelson

I am sure that Ozil generates much more sale than any other Arsenal players. Whenever Arsenal plays in Asia and in the States, you can hear the local fans adoring Ozil’s presence.
Our club is now in the most critical phase to fight for next year’s participation of the CL. With the super heavy schedule ahead, we need every available body to help the team to achieve this goal.

  80. Bamford10

    Pierre

Losing out on the £60-80m we could have gotten for Ramsey and Ozil is not “swings and roundabouts”. It was a massive financial / business mistake. This is why the club has publicly stated that players will be required to sign new contracts two years out going forward.

  81. siddharth14

It’s going to be really difficult getting rid of Mesut in the summer. My biggest fear is the impact on squad morale if the club went with a tough approach on Ozil. Now, i know that many here will disagree but Emery’s treatment of Ozil had a considerable impact on the players. This, i feel was evident in our bad patch commencing since our loss to Southampton. I refuse to believe that our performances were down due to ozil missing from the team. The players sort of had mini revolt towards Emery and almost had him in a corner.

During the world cup, there was this talk of Germany having 2 camps within the squad and that one was lead by our very own,’Mesut’ and called ‘The Bling Bling Group’. I very well remember reading about this and Pedro also mentioned about this in one of his posts. It could be that Mesut has a similar sort of thing at Arsenal where most of the senior players are in his favor.

However, i do feel that since the club itself has given Ozil that monster contract it would be incredibly selfish and unfair to aggressively target him out. They have to do it amicably and if Ozil refuses then just get on with it.

Charles Watts (of Football.london) thinks Denis Suarez showed a bit of promise and class against Al Nasr yesterday. “Denis Suarez … finally showed fans a glimpse of the talent that earned him a move back to Barcelona from Villarreal in 2016,” he writes.

“Classy Denis Suarez gives Arsenal fans a tantalising first glimpse of what could be to come”
    https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/latest-arsenal-news-denis-suarez-16033366

  85. Pierre

    Bamford
“Losing out on the £60-80m we could have gotten for Ramsey and Ozil is not “swings and roundabouts”. It was a massive financial / business mistake. ”

Firstly we haven’t lost out on Ozil because he is still at the club and is a very influential member of the team …one only has to look at the results with Ozil not in the team to determine that.( 7 defeats in 14 games without Ozil starting) .

One could say it is a financial mistake for the club to offer him 300,000 a week, especially as ,according to Marko , there were no other clubs in for him, which makes the offer even more ludicrous.

As for Ramsey , we should have sold him in the summer but whoever was in charge of transfers cocked it up.

If you remember Bamford, I took an enormous amount of criticism from the know nothings on here when I insisted that Ramsey would be shown the door , that was back in june.

  86. jwl

Bamford10 – we have to see how Denis Suarez does in premier league over next couple of months before deciding if he’s a player we want to keep. A friendly against team from Dubai does not tell us if Suarez has abilities and stamina to play English football.

Herrera is a player that we should be looking as he is available on a free.
He has many years premiership experience , has good ability and great attitude.
He he is very vocal on the pitch and a good organiser and is a team player so we shouldn’t dismiss him .

“Charles Watts (of Football.london) thinks Denis Suarez showed a bit of promise and class against Al Nasr yesterday.”

The key word(s) there is “Al Nasr”. That’s a team from Dubai that our U-18’s should be sweeping aside with their eyes closed. Yesterday was a friendly game. Obviously, nobody wants to get injured in those so there were no flying tackles, etc… I watched most of it, and Suarez did okay. Set up Jenks nicely for the first goal, but also conceded a needless penalty at the end of the game. I hope to see more of him in the upcoming games so I can form a better opinion of him as a player but I have a feeling he won’t last passed May at Arsenal.

  91. Words on a Blog

    Pierre/Stroller,

Herrera is a lot more than a United castoff.
Sure he’s 30, but with plenty of guile, nite and experience.

He’s also on a free. Pierre is right.

If his salary demands are not too unreasonable, why not consider him for a 2-year contract?

  92. Pierre

    RH
As you know ,I was making a comparison with Herrera whom stroller said is a United cast off .

I see no difference in either case , nobody knows the true reasons why they will leave their club, it’s all supposition.

  93. Receding Hairline

who exactly is Herrera coming in to replace?? Please don’t say Ramsey

I don’t think signing Herrera is in any way a progressive move for us. This was supposed to be a new era of bargain buys like Guendouzi with a high ceiling not unremarkable workaholics like Herrera

  94. Receding Hairline

Pierre Herrera is not being offered a new deal at United because they probably believe they can upgrade on him , Ramsey on the other hand had his new deal withdrawn because we could not afford him and felt we might get better value elsewhere.

Yes i can see why you think both situations are similar, i can also see why one would call Herrera a cast off.

Calling Ramsey a cast off though is a bit far fetched. He simply isn’t.

  95. Marko

Pierre will be inconsolable this summer if Mhiki and Özil leave the club. My god it’d be fantastic to see. Watch him pivot and latch onto another player like he never liked Özil in the first place

  96. ddkingz

I for one don’t want mustafi out…. the guy just gives me something to think/laugh about arsenal my beloved team…. but also, mustafi is just around 25-26yrs old, with a little patience and faith in him, he might improve before or around 30 yes of age…

and also, I hope we realise he is a world cup winner and a member of the ozil cult group… and also how much it would cost for arsenal to get a quality cb in this current transfer window

  97. azed

I supported the signing of Suarez on loan and I will become an Arteta disciple if he’s signed permanently. We already have a “lets manage him” player in Iwobi and any new purchases have to be a serious upgrade.

To those who want Hererra, WTF are you guys smoking?

  98. Receding Hairline

ddkingz i sincerely hope that post was tongue in cheek

Everything you wrote there is wrong and thinking like that is one of the reasons we are were we are

You want a defender kept on because he makes you laugh and might improve before he turns 30, add the part about being a world cup winner and Ozil’s friend and we are not a football club serious about anything

it won’t be surprising to find you are one of those who believe that all we need is a manager with special sauce as we have a fantastic squad already

  106. useroz

Suarez did ok yesterday. Still looked ‘weak’ during the game and went down when the challenges weren’t that tough. Also, didn’t take shots at all when able to do so. This isn’t a Suarez only problem though. The stats on shots taken gone way down this year. No shots no goals.

Mama and AMN aside, the kids wouldn’t be close to the first team squad really. John (scored the 3rd goal) looked ok but it’s only one friendly

Most of our kids looked too relaxed and without much of fight, intensity, expression…would have thought they’d cherish such opportunity and try to make a statement?.

I don’t want Herrera because he’s injury prone nearly 30 and a cunt. I’d take Hector Herrera before Ander. Besides all that he’s clearly using the speculation to get another deal. Iwobi is an under rated player on le grove.
I like him, he has his flaws but he isn’t as bad as he’s being made out to be by some in here. Most of our goals have come down the left, where Iwobi and Kola play.
I don’t mind getting an update but the amount of abuse he gets is definitely not warranted.

  112. Words on a Blog

Gomsterous, agreed, the level of Iwobi criticism here is off the scale.
He’s been accused of being a headless chicken, indecisive, no final ball, over-elaborate, etc. Etc. The only valid criticism as far as I’m concerned is with respect to his lack of finishing in front of goal.

Someone on here was even outraged that he had a “ridiculous haircut”!!

I mean, what can I say, what do you expect, the guy is a footballer. Having a “ridiculous haircut” is practically part of the job description…..

  113. Marko

The 29-year-old currently earns around £130,000-a-week and Metro.co.uk can reveal United have offered him a new deal that, with bonuses included, could take his weekly wage to around £170,000

That’s Herrera. So that’s a huge no. I honestly doubt there’s actual interest from us anyway

  120. NW 9 gooner

Ornstein has spoken- we are looking at give 5 players- two full backs, central defender and midfielder and a wide forward. I think the level of players we get depends on getting into CL and sale of players.

  121. Marko

Isn’t it funny how Pierre has switched from posting Ozil’s assist stats to results with him in the team / not in the team.

I remember one night him and ES were giving him credit for some nice touches and a flick as they put it. He also got huge credit for helping us control a game there recently and I kid you not we had something like 50-55% possession. Some control that. But that’s what happens when you have someone who was never really known for his goals but for his assists and then all of a sudden his assists dry up. Gone from 8 to 9 assists the previous two seasons and now has 3 he might end up with 5 for the whole season if he’s lucky either way you look at it it’s a huge drop off in numbers
