Hudson Odoi… he’s the boy!

Oh and we sung…

5-1 against Montenegro. What a night. ENGLAND are gonna win the next World Cup, aren’t they?

… back to Arsenal news. Big Kike Marin has BACKED Le Grove and the stance on hiring in your mates to do a highly specialised job that could impact the club for years to come.

“With all due respect to them, but that Andoni Zubizarreta and Robert Fernandez are sounding for the yes I find disrespect. Raül Sanllehí should consider where he is and have someone who knows the Arsenal and the Premier. It’s The logical thing, I say.”

Amen, let’s not get in there and raid Barca for the people they didn’t want. We don’t need a Barca-light model at Arsenal, Wenger tried that and failed miserably. Let’s try a modern Arsenal and hire the best man or woman for the job… not the only person out of a job in Raul’s Rolodex.

Amy L has a great piece on integrating girls into the boys training sessions at Arsenal.

‘This initiative is based on the simple principle of putting young prospects in the best environment for them to flourish. Per Mertesacker, head of Arsenal’s academy, is keen to point out it is not a token gesture. He feels there are benefits in both directions. It is not just the girls who are being challenged. “It started off by thinking of our club and what we stand for,” he explains. “How can we integrate everyone a bit better? We love the variety and we love the different challenges that you sometimes face – that a girl can take you on and sometimes win a duel against you. All these things struck me. It is lovely to see this thriving environment.’

“I remember back in my days it was normal to play with girls in opposition teams. I got on with it and it helped me to understand from the very beginning how important it is to be first of all capable but also to be humble and respectful and disciplined. That’s what we are trying to achieve with these youngsters, to prepare them not only for a football career but also for reality. Women and men are both highly capable.

Sounds like a mighty fine idea to me. If it’s fair, why not? It raises the bar for everyone if the best talent is playing together, and it also ensures the girls land the same opportunities to receive great coaching as the boys.

This is WELBZ dropping some banter… little bit stale now mate, but look, you’ve had a rough time, so we’ll let it slide. Just don’t bring me the Fortnite dance tomorrow or we’ll have to have words.

There’s a delightful story doing the rounds that Liverpool are going to ditch Naby K for very little this summer. Sure, he’s been average, but he’s an explosive player. If we’re thinking about replacing Aaron and he’s around, I’d be all over that sort of a move. Surely a nonsense though? Just an agent trying to force the club to commit? Probably…

We’re tracking Charlton player, Joe Aribo, who plays in left midfield… Jenks is at it again, right?

I haven’t seen him play, but the last time I got excited about a lower league talent it was Bramall and that didn’t really work out, did it?

Right, that’s me done. I am so over you and your attitude. Let’s thrash it out in the comments once and for all.

I am all for buying bargains from lower leagues or from other parts of the world if there is a clear strategy and it does not impact on our transfer budget and wage bill. You need to speculate to accumulate.

Kola Toure cost us a “bowl of rice” and was a great buy. I think also Holding was
also good value and will hopefully make the grade.

On the other hand Jenkinson and Bramall are both not up to the plate and should have been offloaded a long time ago.

The real concern is that the club is not producing enough home grown talent
within our Academy in recent years. That needs to be redressed and quickly.
I would expect at least one “quality” player to come through the system at least
every couple of years. What was shocking is that Gnabry who now plays for
both Bayern and Germany was let go for peanuts.

  2. Nelson

Hudson Odoi is going to be a star. He has good speed. When he plays as a left winger, he has an accurate shot. Chelsea has those old wingers,Willian and Pedro. Hazard wants to leave. They would not let Hudson leave.
I also like Rice. I want him to replace Xhaka.

  3. gambon

Putting girls in with the boys is all very noble for the Social Justice weirdos,

But clearly a bad idea for the boys teams.

If putting girls in with better players improves them, then the reciprocal must be true, the boys playing against inferior opponents will hurt their development.

Dreadful idea. We’re not here to change the world.

  4. Jamie

Girls playing youth footie with boys is nothing new, and certainly not ground-breaking. There were girls in my youth league in the 1980s, and them being included didn’t restrict the progression of any boys.

  5. Vintage Gun

I don’t mind cheap lower league prospects coming into the club even though i’m aware enough to understand that the vast majority wont make it with us.
Where we need to improve in this area is to extract better fees for the ones that fall just short of making our 1st team squad.

Take Liverpool for example, signied Solanke for pennies, realised he lacks 1st team quality for them, sold him on a year later for £20m. Whereas with us it seems as if our kids that fall just short we just practically give them away for nothing.

Hopefully Recent signings like Guendouzi can buck our trend and we can start receiving good value on the outgoing transfers of our fringe/squad players as it all adds up come May

  6. Zimmie2652

Now for the hard hitting question… You think Mustafi would lay out a lady after she embarrassed him for the 32nd time in training?

  7. Vintage Gun

Watched the England last night and have to say was pleasantly surprised. Good squad Southgate’s brewing there it seems. Although, i still think GK, CB, CM are lacking when Tourmement time comes around. but the fact that they’re watchable (Outside of tournaments)is a clear improvement in itself.

  8. KAY Boss

Naby Keita will come good for Lipool.
Not all players are able to adjust to systems easily. It took Nasri 3yrs to be what he was. Others can also start well and end badly like Michu and Benteke.
Hope our fire isn’t quenched for the top 4 battle.

  9. gonsterous

    gambon

I agree, boys and girls playing together is okay at school or the local sports club but not at the level arsenal are playing or even the championship level.

  10. gambon

“There were girls in my youth league in the 1980s, and them being included didn’t restrict the progression of any boys.”

What team do you play for Jamie?

    Arsenal? UTD?

    No….

  11. Jamie

    gambon –

Not sure what your point is, because I didn’t claim to be a professional footballer who trained with girls when I was a kid.

How many 12 year olds playing for Arsenal will end up Premier League players? The one kid who makes it won’t have been affected by playing with girls before he reached puberty.

    Cheers

  12. Marko

Raül Sanllehí should consider where he is and have someone who knows the Arsenal and the Premier

Actually some of the very best candidates for the job neither have a connection with the premier league or are not remotely connected to Arsenal except maybe Paul Mitchell who’s worked at Southampton. Edu and Overmars have got a connection but I don’t think they’re on the same level as a Monchi, Berta, Campos, Henrique or Marrotta. I also am not keen on Zubizurretta but clearly not in the same way as the author of this blog. Not sure if it’s simply because he doesn’t like the manager doesn’t like Raul or has something against the Spanish.

  13. Bamford10

Uefa has just opened an investigation into the alleged racist chanting at the England v. Montenegro qualifier.

  14. Marko

I’m sure the girls boys training sessions in particular to the senior team is a once in a while thing and not the least bit regular as it sounds so it shouldn’t be a problem. We’re 4th ffs it clearly isn’t an issue. And if you’re someone who has a problem with this that is on you. Once in a while they’d also ask a youthful prospect who isn’t the least bit ready to join in and it doesn’t seem to diminish the overall level of the squad. Sometimes even an ex player/retired player would join in and again no real effect. That happens significantly less these days now that Uncle Arsene is gone and we act like a proper club

  15. Words on a Blog

Marko – re the author of this blog’s reasons.

It’s pretty clear that it’s nit that he has anything against the Spanish, nor indeed any other nationality.

It’s because he doesn’t want a situation where, on the football management and technical side, The Barcelona Elite go to Man City and the Barcelona Rejects and Secind Stringers come to Arsenal

  16. Guns of Hackney

    1. Game fucking over! When a piece of shit cunt footballer starts doing these stupid internet fucking things, it makes my blood curdle. I don’t care that he’s having fun, he looks like a chump.

    2. Hiring mates. Shit idea. ALL THE TIME.

    3. Does anyone except gas fitters, painter and decorators, plumbers and the jobless care about Enggurland? God.

    Fucking Welbeck.

  17. Bamford10

As for the best girls in the youth set-up training with the boys, we’re talking about 10 and 11 year olds, not older youth players. And the male youth coaches interviewed in the piece seem to think it’s working quite well. I think I’ll trust their judgment over those who tend to denigrate any and all women’s sports.

  18. Guns of Hackney

The problem I have with the Spanish is thus:

They still think that the torture of an animal for ‘fun’ is cool. That makes them utterly indefensible.

No one likes terracotta tiles everywhere! There are other tiles, guys. Use them.

  19. Uwot?

Yeah if it’s true that the mickey mousers might offload “ nobby keita “- might be worth a punt.but unlikely to say the least….

  20. Guns of Hackney

No one leaves a better club to go to a worse one unless their knees sounds like a cement mixer and want a pay off or…significantly more cash and they have no shame.

  21. Marko

You’re probably talking about something that happens a handful of times in a season it’s really not a big deal.

  22. Graham62

    Sanctions are totally useless.

Ban any team from future competitions until they get their house in order.

This is a mindset and attitude that is common across Europe. Financial penalties are useless. Ban the “country.”

    End of.

  23. Nelson

    Interesting setup for today

Arsenal: Leno, Jenkinson, Mustafi, Mavropanos, Medley, Gilmour, Sheaf, Amaechi, Ozil, Suarez, Lacazette.

Subs: Cech, Koscielny, Maitland-Niles, Pleguezuelo, Osei-Tutu, Thompson, Olayinka, John-Jules.

We got to see Mavro, Medley, Suarez and Amaechi. I hope that they could help us in the run in for Top 4.

  24. Marko

Ban any team from future competitions until they get their house in order.

Zero tolerance. Does that only include racism? I’m just wondering because if there’s a zero tolerance policy for the actions of fans for any kind of disturbance I think England would have been kicked out of every single tournament they’ve been in the last 15 years.

  25. Eduardo

Girls and boys playing sports together before puberty hits makes some sense. Once their bodies start changing, less so.

  26. Guns of Hackney

    incel. Lolz.

Whenever the word ‘subculture’ is mentioned to describe a thing…you got trouble.

Women’s sport, I find, is 8/10 times more exciting than male sport. One could say the women have bigger bollocks to put themselves on the line more readily and take chances.

  27. Micheal

“Are they running a football club or a hippy social experiment?”

Ladies and gentleman, welcome to the 19th century.

  28. Danny S

i’m hoping when they talk about the girls training with the boys that they mean up until the U12 sort of age, where there is very little difference in their physical abilities.
Anything above that would hamper the boys development imo.

  29. Guns of Brixton

“Putting girls in with the boys is all very noble for the Social Justice weirdos, But clearly a bad idea for the boys teams. If putting girls in with better players improves them, then the reciprocal must be true, the boys playing against inferior opponents will hurt their development.Dreadful idea. We’re not here to change the world.”

    Exactly.

Lets not bog ourselves down in tokenism for goodness sake.

Their is a clear biological physiological difference between boys and girls here.

We doing no favours to either gender here.

  30. Nelson

    We are playing 4 2 3 1 formation.
Back four: Jenkinson, Mustafi, Mavropanos, Medley,
    Midfield: Gilmour, Sheaf
    RW: Amaechi
    LW: Suarez
    AM: Ozil
    ST: Lacazette.

  31. Pedro

Gun, no one is saying there’s no difference… read the article.

When the kids are young, they play together so they get the best training.

It even says the two best girls are outperforming the boys physically.

If they can compete, why shouldn’t they?

  32. Arse&Nose©

I’ve played mixed football and I can tell you 100% that the intensity naturally drops from the most competitive male players. Sometimes it actually helped the game as there was less kick and rush and more skill involved, it also took out most of the bitchy comments and whinging we got in mens only games. I’d say it’s fine to mix it for kids, when you get to the top level we know that the competitive edge makes all the difference.

  33. Victorious

Naby Keita will not be leaving Liverpool. He wouldn’t be joining Arsenal anyway”

Surely if he were to join, he’d be our best midfielder since Cesc?

  34. Guns of Brixton

Replicate how it will be for them in the pro world.

Getting the boys to face the girls on the pitch sounds like their trying to replicate a Saturday morning TV show vibe of “boys vs girls”.

    Its not rational.

  35. Jim Lahey

“Surely if he were to join, he’d be our best midfielder since Cesc?”

    Ever heard of Santi Cazorla?

  36. Marko

Surely if he were to join, he’d be our best midfielder since Cesc?

Yep. Far better option in CM than Ainsley Maitland Niles who might I add is nothing like Ndombele.

  37. Mr. J

First 15-20min the defenders were all over the shop.

We could have been 2-0 down in under 10mins.

Mustafi is supposed to be leading that defence… well he certainly wasn’t then

  38. Marko

Naby Keita hasn’t even been that bad this season it’s just for the fee came expectations straight away. There’s still every expectation that he’ll be one of the best midfielders in Europe

  39. HighburyLegend

They are in vacations, it’s only a training match to them…
And to be honest, they may be right.

All hurricanes and Cyclones in the northern hemisphere should be named after Mustafi
Just call them Mustafi 1…2 etc. The chap is a natural disaster

“I didn’t realize the internet existed in the 19th century.”

    No we just used pigeons.
If boys training with girls is the trans-formative idea that Mertasacker is bringing to the table then he needs to be released immediately.

Like people have said here, there’s nothing new or revealing about it. I played hockey, football and basket ball with girls all the time in elementary and secondary school P.E classes all the time, which worked fine.
It has to be different for an academy vested to produce talent that will rival the best in world football.
I do apologize if my plain talk offends your sense of sensitive side.

  43. Pedro

Dissenter, no one is offended, you just sound like a very insecure person.

‘I just talk real’… such bravado.

  44. Victorious

    Shifting the goal post much,eh..

i mean nobody has made mention of AMN but here you’re lumping him in and desperately clutching the straws with after your infamous ‘Keita would come in and be our best midfielder since cesc’ patter

It continues to sound more ridiculous as time passes by considering since that time we’ve had The little magician and Torreira who are both more superior midfield players

At least be man/woman enough to admit your guff everytime you make them

  45. salparadisenyc

Something tells me Mertesacker has a better handle on the benefits of integrating women into training w/ the young prospects than the keyboard warriors in this space.

I say let the girls play, could create a better work ethic for all involved.

  46. Receding Hairline

Marko if i were in your shoes i will refrain from making comments on Keita. You spent the summer bigging him up like he is the future of midfield play and will dominate the league once he arrives….i remember the phrase you kept using “he is that good”

  47. Marc

Don’t see the point in arguing about the youngsters training together. Personally it sounds like a bit of PR to me but if it is serious and has real benefits you’ll soon all know. Every other club will start doing it as well, unless of course they are all running a PR stunt as well!

  48. useroz

Too much tippy tappy from our kids.

Where’s the hunger to showcase in such rare occasion? AMN shows rhe most.

Only Ozil in the box and AMN threw his hands up!!

Our kids don’t seem to be keen/able to make space to shoot. No appetite??

    Most won’t make it ,sadly.

  49. Victorious

After all it’s the blog of love.

Telling you integrated training is a meaningless experiment that’s neither novel nor transformative doesn’t make one insecure.

AMN has improved heaps in the last month or so. Mostly his show of attitude and passion that found wanting in the past.

    1 — 3

  52. Victorious

Up to now, I like what I see from AMN. He has that sudden burst of speed.

You obviously have a good eye for the game,AMN is quite clearly a talent, it’s just a matter of whether it’s got the right attitude to push him over the line and make him a reasonably first team player

I’m not surprised Emery is a big fan

  53. Marko

i mean nobody has made mention of AMN but here you’re lumping him in and desperately clutching the straws with after your infamous ‘Keita would come in and be our best midfielder since cesc’ patter

You were bringing up something i said last summer it’s only fair then for me to bring up something even stupider you said like how AMN was as good as Ndombele. Speaking of stupid things there was that time Vic that you wanted Huddersfield to score and beat us earlier in the season.

Naby Keita is a top quality midfielder a lackluster first few months at title challenging Liverpool doesn’t change the fact. When he leaves it’ll be for one of the best clubs in Europe no doubt

  54. Receding Hairline

“When he leaves it’ll be for one of the best clubs in Europe no doubt”

    Disagree

If he made his “big move” to Liverpool and couldn’t deliver why will he undoubtedly move to a bigger club when he leaves? What do you have to back up this claim besides your infatuation with him?

  55. Marko

I’m not surprised Emery is a big fan

I wouldn’t go that far. Bar one or two games maybe earlier in the season in the Carling Cup has he played in midfield for us under Emery? Maybe. And if it wasn’t for Bellerin’s injury and Lichtsteiner being so bad he probably wouldn’t be getting a run in the team right now. Then you also have to factor in the rumors of using him to get Wan Bissaka. Basically as much as some might get carried away with the lad there’s every opportunity that he isn’t here long term

  56. gonsterous

none of the youngsters impressed me tonight. I can see why Mavro has been left out of the squad. kid is not match fit at all.

  57. Marko

If he made his “big move” to Liverpool and couldn’t deliver why will he undoubtedly move to a bigger club when he leaves? What do you have to back up this claim besides your infatuation with him?

Hardly infatuation more admire his undoubted quality. You see I seen him play longer than a few months at Liverpool and he’s considered one of the brightest midfielders in Europe. You’re like one of those fans who now question the talent of Pogba for example because he hasn’t been tearing up trees at United completely disregarding the form he showed at Juve. Which is silly. He’s another one that when he moves on from United he’ll end up at one of the top 5 clubs in Europe.

  58. Victorious

When he leaves it’ll be for one of the best clubs in Europe no doubt”

Oh, there you again with these absolutist nonsense, really not sure y you do it to yourself

Correct me if I’m wrong but Didn’t you say something similar to this about Meyer? Yea He’s at European heavy weight Crystal palace now.

Keita hasn’t done anything enough to secure him another big move.. In fact I predict a step lower for him unless he improves drastically in the next season

  59. Receding Hairline

“and he’s considered one of the brightest midfielders in Europe. You’re like one of those fans who now question the talent of Pogba for example because he hasn’t been tearing up trees at United completely disregarding the form he showed at Juve. ”

Considered by who? Are u saying the fact he didn’t live up to expectation at Liverpool counts for very little?

I have no issues with Pogba, yes he can be a bit overrated and flashy, but the expectations on him was as a result of the ridiculous transfer fee, nothing Pogba does on a football field is worth 89m pounds

  60. Victorious

Injuries has hampered AMN a lot this season and started against UTD at home recently in our 2:0 victory and this after another lengthy lay off..important to note he was on the reckoning of many who watched that match as MOTM

He wasn’t getting ahead of Lict not because of a question on his ability but injuries, you could see our improvement from a mile having been brought back into the team

He’s absolutely a must keep for the squad

Wouldn’t pay much attention to the player plus swap rumour for Bisaka. Clearly click baits

  61. Dream10

Keita linked with Dortmund. They could use him as they’re a bit flat in central midfield. They’ll have funds to invest from the sales of Pulisic and possibly Sancho.

Really concerned about our summer plans. Our organisation at the top is not order.

  62. Marko

Considered by who? Are u saying the fact he didn’t live up to expectation at Liverpool counts for very little?

Wouldn’t be the first player to take a while to get used to a new league and a new team. Take Xhaka for example who’s been average to awful for two whole seasons before any signs of improvement. But seriously you’d be a fool to discount Keita after a few months at Liverpool a fool.

  63. Receding Hairline

“Really concerned about our summer plans.”

A bit too early for that don’t you think?? Newspaper links are mostly 80% made up rubbish and shouldn’t be considered a clubs summer plans.

I am 90% certain Keita isn’t living Liverpool anyway, you don’t wait for a full season to get a player only to let go after a year.

  64. Marko

Wan Bissaka would be a great signing. He’s fast he’s strong he’s an actual RB. Statistically speaking he has made the most tackles in the premier league this season. If there’s an opportunity to nab him we should take it

  65. Receding Hairline

“But seriously you’d be a fool to discount Keita after a few months at Liverpool a fool.”

Easy there tiger, no one is discounting anyone, simply pointing out your over the top praise for him before he arrived, i remember asking you what happens if he doesn’t hit the ground running and you replying that it was impossible because “he is that good”

Fuck Cardiff…. I had respect for them not anymore.

And who now, pays the family for the death? No one? Perhaps Sala had life insurance- we can assume but you never know.
