Is OGS having a more profound impact on the world than Jesus?

by & filed under News Review.

Oh my, I don’t quite know what to do with myself… Thomas, we were, you know, a thing…

What the bloody hell did you do to me last night? In front of the whole bloody world.

I am HUMILIATED.

Now the Emery Ultras are saying mean things like…

‘Thomas Tuchel has very mild levels of sauce, like, ‘Doritos’ levels of spice’

‘Emery’s Champions League loss was BETTER than Tuchel’s, fucktard’

‘You backed a manager with a weak hairline. That weak hairline is your opinion’

Upsetting words, I’m sure you’ll agree.

PSG really tanked. It’s going to be hard to explain that one away to the bosses in Paris. United didn’t field a good side, they played like shite, and they still managed to turnover an unbelievably expensive PSG side. No excuses. It was shite. Tuchel’s boys went out far too relaxed. No fire. No aggression. No respect for the CV of a man backed by Fergie, Phelan and the class of 92.

You’ve shown me up, Thomas. Sure, Pep the FRAUD exited in the round of 16 in his first season at City with a 6-6 draw, but you sir do not boast the serial sauce of the master! This is a blight. I don’t quite know how to reconcile this?

YES I DO

In reality, it’s fair to say Ole G channelled a big fat dollop of luck last night after his teams nothing burger performance managed to extract an away win in Paris. It was never a penalty, VAR was a total shambles, but that’s beside the point. United weren’t that good, but they won’t care as they sail on through to the next round of the Champions League. They shithoused Paris. If that were an Italian club we’d all be celebrating a masterful execution that ‘only the Italian’s know how to pull off.’

My main worry isn’t the broken rep of Thomas T, no, it’s what we do on Sunday and how last night impacts the race for #Top4 supremacy.

The real prize of the game is a few fold.

Firstly, United will have exerted a lot of energy chasing after PSG all night. It doesn’t matter how smart your High-Performance backroom team is, it’s going to be tough to recover to peak levels by Sunday.

Secondly, United must continue their little adventure in Europe. That’s two tough legs against a no doubt very good team.

All these little advantages could add up for Arsenal. I’d be very surprised if Rennes make us work hard tomorrow night. They have some good players, but we should dominate them. We should beat them early. We should be able to do it with a fairly second string-ish team. I’m hoping their extended time off (last played Feb 27th) works against them (just like it worked against BATE, lolololol). But we’ll see…

Thirdly, it means United HAVE to sign up Ole G. It makes sense, he’s brought back a bit of buzz to Salford, the fans love him, he conducts himself well in the media and he’s brought the old team back together AND Fergie has been working some magic from a mentorship perspective behind the scenes. It’s the perfect storm.

People keep saying it’ll come unpicked at some point, but I think that’s more hope than anything else. The man knows the club, lives its values and he has enough respect from the world of football to work with top players. I’d prefer him in the role than Poch or Jardim… but I wouldn’t jump to conclusions that this is a flash in the pan. There’s far more to setting up a club than simply having a good manager. OGS understood that well and all I can do is applaud the output.

Finally, United rode their luck SO hard last night. That’s going to come crashing down at some point. So fingers crossed Emery is the man to deal that blow to their season. Bit of a shit point, but fuck it, why not?

SO, all in all… it’s been another good week.

Arsenal have to work their way through Rennes tomorrow, avoiding injuries and tight hamstrings… then we’re betting it all on a Sunday afternoon massacre. We have to be careful of the counter-attack, we have to play aggressively and make their tired legs an advantage, and we have to work our way around the CORRUPT FERGIE MAFIA THAT HAS NO DOUBT BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE OFFICIALS.

Should be fun.

See you in the comments, I’m just going outside for a little walk… no… seriously, I’m ok. x

P.S. I looked up and saw Roma lost in the last 16. Face back down in the puddle.

    Don’t worry mate. It’s nit Tuchel’s fault.

Emery left such a shit side at PSG for Tuchel, how could you possibly blame him? Yes I know he’s the current manager but you’re only as good as the team you inherit and currently England’s 4th best side is better than the side emery left behind.

  2. gambon

I think all too often people create a narrative after the event in a football match that is just completely wrong.

PSG didnt bottle it. They were fucked over in injury time by a dreadful decision.

UTD had 27% of the ball, and scored 3 times from 5 shots.

One opponent that no team can beat is incredible luck, and UTD have been unbelievably lucky since OGS took over.

They have scored 10 more goals than their xG, they have conceded 10 goals less than their xGA. They have had 7 penalties in 7 games.

Its not dissimilar to our run of 11 wins in a row, where we were performing pretty poorly.

  3. Un Battle Angel

Further evidence that a young, fresh ideas driven coach is the “special sauce” we need. Not an old dried up Spanish moyes.

  4. Un Battle Angel

If united do us at the weekend we are europa bound again
The chavs appear to be getting their act together south of the river

Jesus H Pedro. Do you have no national pride? You are English aren’t you? Give Man U some credit for actually turning round a 2-0. Hope they go on to win the event (although most unlikely TBH).

  6. JDavey

Any talk of PSG bottling it and united pulling off a masterclass is bollocks. United never created a thing, they were given two gifts and a penalty that should never have been.

However, it could work out to be good for us in the race for top four. My only concern is that spurs are still in it and some teams that are normally the elite in this competition are going out, Madrid and PSG are out, and imo Bayern probably will go out too.

  7. Masterstroke

Why are you talking about fatigue? The players on the pitch yesterday have been on the bench all season.

The big players who are injured will walk back in to that utd team all fresh after a couple of weeks out injured. Martial, matic, herrera, lingard, pogba etc.

Add to that a rejuvenated lukaku,in form rashford and kids with confidence sky high it is a worry.

This for me is a lot more about referee’s decisions when presented with a second opportunity to make an informed decision that has a potentially huge impact.

And I am a lot less inclined towards VAR now.

Horrendous decisions will still be made and it’s easier to excuse a human error than a mistake made after being presented with a second chance to make a correct decision.

  11. Pierre

The question is, will Emery set the team up to play pragmatic or expansive football in the next couple of games .

The Mourinho style of football worked well at the weekend, it helped getting the early goal as it gave us something to hold on to .

Sitting deep and relying on counter attack v Rennes tonight is a possibility , the only problem with that is we will be surrendering possession which will put our defence under pressure for long periods of the game.
Playing with 2 very disciplined full backs for the first time this season v Tottenham, proved that our defenders can defend well, if used tactically correctly, but will Emery decide this is the best way forward to get results, especially away from home.

It appears to me that Arsenal are different to the other top 6 sides . They all seem to have a pattern of play that they adhere to week after week , home and away. One knows how these teams will set up , the formation and the tactics and usually the personnel.

With Arsenal and Emery no one really has a clue how we will set up and sometimes one wonders if our manager has a clue what his best team and best formation is.
We have no discernable pattern of play , we have probably only 2/3 players in the squad that ( when fit ) one could say are regular starters and our formation changes from early season 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 or wing backs mid season and back to 4-2-3-1 the last 3/4 games.

Let’s see how we set up tonight …I am hoping for a 4-2-3-1 with creativity in the side with a solid defensive back 4 but to be honest , i along with anyone else would not have a clue what his formation , tactics or personnel will be….

It’s difficult to determine the nationalities of most of the commenters (Gambon could be a clue though), so I can only assume that most of you are distance fan boys who waggon jumped during the Wenger glory years and would obviously hate all things British.

Not really a concern for me, i think Spurs will more likely panic against an English team than a continental team

  14. Guns of Hackney

Well I consider myself English, not British.

But I’m not a fan of supporting other clubs. Ever.

  15. Ishola70

Wouldn’t beat yourself up too much over Tuchel.

The defeat was down to individual player mistakes.

The German kid Kehrer set the tone for the night with that awful giveaway to Lukaku inside a couple of minutes.

United sat and just waited for PSG to beat themselves really.

No surprise that Porto knocked out Roma. The winger for them Corona shows some good quality and laid their second goal on a plate for Marega.

All very nice and very british supporting English clubs in Europe, but let’s be honest football is a tribal game and we hate our rivals and don’t want them to succeed apart from exceptions like Masterstroke and our very own David Seaman, personally I do not want any of our clubs winning it but will take anyone over the flids. Thanks for that Dave

Christ. Ex players for England will always talk up supporting other English clubs in Europe etc. It’s been the same since I can remember. Nothing to see here.

I want the White Walkers to win.

  28. bennydevito

Good post Pedro, top lols too.

I’m English, 42 and have supported Arsenal since 85 and I never support other English clubs in Europe, fuck that, especially Man Utd, Liverpool or Tottenham, no fucking chance.

If I had to choose one I could just about stomach City winning it but it would gaul me because they would have essentially bought it like they have all their success, just like Chelsea.

  29. bennydevito

Everybody calm down about Ole G, he’s just the mouthpiece, it’s essentially Phelan and Fergie doing the work and that comes from my Manc mate.

  30. englandsbest

Pedro, does this mean you will be singing along with Emery? I guess not.

For me the PSG/Man U game re-emphasised the critical importance of man-management: the Man U players love Ole, the PSG-ers don’t care much for Tuchel. After Jose, no doubt anybody with a smile on his face would have won the hearts of Pogba and Co – and Ole never stops smiling.

After the excitement of CL, the Europa seems decidedly dull. A tiny sigh of relief if we win or draw at Rennes, nothing more. The big question is: can Unai do to Ole what no other manager has done: expose the utter simplicity of his style of play by using a little subtlety.

My belief is that he will.

Does that mean Arsenal will win the game?

Not necessarily, and for one utterly simple reason: they have far better players.

  31. Pierre

Would you say that bringing Saurez into the squad in January helped to re address the imbalance in the squad .

according to your expert opinion , Saurez was brought in to be a winger who could help out defensively.

I said at the time , the loan signing of Saurez could be on par with Kim kallstrom in the cock up department..

  32. bennydevito

Man Utd’s odds have dropped from 28 to 1 to 10 to 1 to win the CL. My mate stuck £20 on, that’ll be £560 plus his £20 back.

  38. gambon

I really want to see our team tonight picked based on the UTD game.

UTD just played a tough away game, despite the fact they have won 300 games in a row, they arent playing well, and luck has to run out sometime.

Emery needs to be smart, and not run our players into the ground.

Ozil & Suarez wont start against UTD, so play them. Torreira cant play against UTD. Give old men Koscielny and Monreal a rest, bring them back for UTD.

  39. FRANCIS

I don’t think Man. Utd did much running yesterday. The PSG players were, as you rightly said, disrespectful. Don’t know how the support was from the home team but against a weekend side, there is really no excuse. They were too dramatic with the tactics, forcing passes, playing to the gallery. They are telling the world they are no European elite. Shameful, another team might have been grateful in their stead.

  40. Nelson

Looking at the travelling squad, Emery is going to play his strongest team. There is no Jenkinson, Lichtsteiner, Elneny, Willock. I think Emery is treating this game like another EPL game with the standard rotation; Torr for Guen, Ozil for Ramsey, Kola for Monreal. Maybe AMN for Mustafi. Suarez will sub in for Mkhit or Iwobi, Ramsey for Ozil. Guen for Xhaka. You can already see how Emery is going to use his manpower. Hope we can get an early lead and just go through the motion to rest up.

Has the Saurez signing helped to ‘re address , what you called , the imbalance in the squad.

Not taking Elneny was a silly decision.

Would have been a perfect opportunity to rest both our CMs that are playing on Sunday.

  53. Leedsgunner

Why the OGS love on an Arsenal blog? If you love Arsenal why would you want Tottenham and Man United to win anything? Really?

As for Arsenal, Emery needs to ship out that disastrous footballer known as S. Mustafi this summer. Along with Granit Xhaka those two clowns have caused our team to throw away a ridiculous amount of points. If we are going to be as restricted in transfer funds as it is being touted we need to try to cover £80m from their sales and buy younger smarter and hungrier.

  54. Leedsgunner

“In fact we couldve realistically rested Laca, Iwobi, Mykhitaryan, Ramsey, Guendouzi, Xhaka, Monreal, Koscielny, Leno – 9 of our 11 starters on sunday.”

    Yep.

This would have been the sensible brave decision but it’s clear Emery is placing all his eggs in the Europa League basket and hoping to win it. Bearing in mind we lost to a very rusty BATE Borisov I’m not holding my breath.

We’re in the same predicament as we were under Wenger, our squad is nowhere good enough in quality and depth to do decently in more than one competition.

  55. Champagne charlie

    Leeds

How many points have they cost us? Because it’s not much of an argument if you can’t quantify it and are relying purely on emotion.

    Would be terrible.

  60. Leedsgunner

    Champagne

That’s a fair enough point but I don’t have time just now to compile such a depressing list.

An experienced defender should know better than to make a stupid tackle when his team is up and the game is closing down. Mustafi is far too prone the rash tackle when things are on tenderhooks… that’s my point.

In the same way, a WC striker should be composed enough to put away the gift of a last minute penalty. That’s a mental fault as much as a footballing one.

On both ends of the pitch out team is still prone to mental lapses.

Pogba didn’t play yesterday but he expended as much energy rejoicing.

  62. Danny

I reckon Emery is much more interested in tonights match than the Man U one. I mean mathematically of course we can at the moment get top 4 but with our defence away from home against the likes of Everton, Leicester, Watford etc then our best shot for him is the Thursday night cup.

Instead of agreeing to the loan signing of Denis Saurez, wouldn’t it have been more beneficial to use Saka from the bench the way Saurez is being used.It would have given Saka invaluable playing time.

the imbalance of the squad that has been referred to by Receding Hairline and the managers failure to address the problem is a concern for some.
let’s hope the manager ( if he is still at the club) is astute enough to realise that bringing in a loan signing who is of no use to the team and is stopping the progress of our young talent coming through, was a mistake that must not be repeated

  68. Leedsgunner

Remember when Robert Di Matteo lead Chelsea to their UCL triumph? The OGS run has the same feel about it imo.

Guns is a dire comic (sorry “Bro” – I’m typing like I have sauce like you and Pedro whatever that is). He’s not being serious. Why would anyone as a Gooner want Spurs to win the CL and if anyone didn’t like AFC this much why would they come on an Arsenal themed blog daily.

    Steve/Thomas does that…

  75. Davey

By the way, Spurs.com is amazing! Ha ha Guns of Hackney you are getting very boring, do all us Arsenal fans a favour and fucking stay there!

  76. Leftsidesanch

Ben Arfa never hurt us when he was at Newcastle. He won’t hurt us tonight.
People need to stop pretending like he’s Messi.

Say it again for the people at the back!

  77. Pedro

Dissenter, have you ever watched Rennes?

If emery thinks this is a banana skin, he’s even worse than I thought.

  78. JDavey

Take a score draw tonight if we do it whilst resting a few for Sunday, will have enough to do the business in the second leg no problem.

    Pierre
    Stop moaning you grump
Your master left Arsenal with a disjointed squad and now you want to put it on the new manger. You can’t fix lack of balance without money, can you.
We were going around cap-in-hand, knocking oj every door to pull something out of a leaking paper bad, problem is we only had enough for an appetizer. We even tried to get Almiron with a ridiculous offer, that’s how much we tried.
We tried more in January than Wenger did for the last four transfer windows he was in charge of.
Suarez not playing. isn’t a big deal, that’s why the club insisted on a loan.

    Pedro
Saw them play twice this season on BEIN sports.
They are like Newcastle-lite. They may give us problems with their physicality, that’s about it.
I would play Iwobi and Mykhi in the first half and bring on Ozil to play with his toys when the game his won already.
I agree with gambon that Elneny should b playing but Torriera has to get his minutes.

  81. Leftsidesanch

Listening to Emery in the press conference on Ben Arfa makes one realise what total crap he talks .

What did you want him to say? All managers are courteous of the opposition before they play in a press conference. They usually when asked, pay compliment to the opposition’s danger man as well.

    Why is this a thing?

Guns of Hackney is one of the five captains of good banter here.

He is just winding you up.
    Calm down, will ya

  83. Chitom

Pretty lengthy post Pedro considering it must’ve taken you good part of the night peeling the tape holding Tuchel poster off your bedroom wall while sobbing uncontrollably.
Terrible result for all true Arsenal fans though.
Tuchel will be out at the season’s end and PSG will surely come in and steal Arteta right from under our noses to take them to the CL glory.
City’s phone is probably ringing off the hook as we speak.

    “A disjointed squad”

So does the signing of Saurez make it even a fraction less of a ” disjointed squad”.

It has taken Emery 8 months to realise that it you play a flat back 4 with the full backs not so advanced , as against Tottenham , the defence shows an immediate improvement .

This is how he should have set the team up from day one instead of having both full backs bombing forward at every opportunity leaving our defence exposed and open down the channels.

  85. Guns of Hackney

Rennes is like Arsenal playing the tiny tots under 4’s. Should be an easy win.

Meltdown city if Rennes beat us.

  86. Leftsidesanch

This is Arsenal, we lost to BATE away who didn’t play a game in two months. We lost to Ostersunds (the team reads like when my little one is bashing away at my iphone) at home last year for crying out louder.

Nothing is ever a sure thing with this side – we should be able to negotiate Renne’s over two ties but I’m not lambasting Emery for bringing a strong squad.

  87. Dissenter

Anyone who knows Harlem Ben Arfa’s history at Newcastle understand why a manager like Emery would freeze him out.
He’s known for a lack of discipline and hated training. Newcastle had to realize him from his contract.
Emery could have just said he’s a first class cu*t. Maybe that would have satisfied Pierre.

  88. Pedro

Chitom, Tuchel is an excellent manager and I stand by my man.

A lot of people using him to deflect away from Emery. An unusual amount of insecurity from the Emery Ultras.

Right now, a number of them laying the groundwork for a poor result tonight against a team we should beat easily.

  89. Pierre

    Leftsidesanch
“What did you want him to say? All managers are courteous of the opposition before they play in a press conference. They usually when asked, pay compliment to the opposition’s danger man as well. Why is this a thing?”

How about tell the truth , that would be a start otherwise he makes himself look incompetent .

It must be embarrassing for Emery to have to sit in front of the media and pay compliments about a player who he basically put on the scrap heap and refused to play less than 12 months ago.

  90. Dissenter

    Pedro
I’m not worried. I’m the one dispelling the Ben Arfa nonsense.
Emery is because he saw the reaction to the loss to Bate. He must know that there’s righteous outrage every time we lose to lower opposition.
He wants to build a momentum leading up to Sunday.

  91. Chitom

Rennes should be a walk in the park even for Arsenal reserves ( apparently), said those who believed Madrid / Ajax tie was done and dusted after first leg.

  92. Guns of Hackney

    “Emery ultras”

Yep. As I mentioned previously, can we not just get a manager that doesn’t have a fucking cult?

OGS is schooling Emery big time.

  93. Dissenter

‘A lot of people using him to deflect away from Emery. An unusual amount of insecurity from the Emery Ultras’

That ultra smear works out both ways.
You’ve been carrying the flag for the Emery-out ultras. You’ve been hurling smoke bombs everywhere since the autumn.

Emery’s PSG lost a similar game with very dubious officiating. That referee was actually formally censured by UEFA for the mistakes he made in the Barca-PSG game.
It’s one thing to lose to Messi, Suarez, Rakitic etc and another to lose to a half-team that United played.

    Pedro
Show some contrition. You went too far with the PSG attack on Emery.

  94. Leftsidesanch

Your asking a football manager to always tell the truth? Do you read what you type Pierre?

Football managers engage in distortion all the time. Your usual defences of Mesut are quite hilarious and consistent and I’d prefer them over this. You at least raise a good point that nobody has been able to rebut so far but your reaching with this one.

Our former manager as an example regularly was sitting in the dugout, rocking in his caterpillar coat and didn’t see questionable decisions that went in our favour for years. Was you chastising him for not telling the truth?

Managers will lie in pressers most weeks. There’s nothing new to see here.

  95. Receding Hairline

“Right now, a number of them laying the groundwork for a poor result tonight against a team we should beat easily.”

I don’t think anyone has done that.

Our last away Europa league game ended BATE 1- Arsenal 0, some are just pointing out we should take the game more seriously, no football match is a gimme.

I expect a comfortable game for us tonight, they will huff and puff seeing as the game is a big deal for them but we should have enough to beat them

  96. Pedro

Looking forward to seeing how much sauce Sarr has this evening.

Shop window awaits for a lot of them tonight.

  97. Nelson

I really think Emery has a better chance winning a home and home series than a single away game. Our home form can beat any of the team left in the EUROPE Cup competition.

  98. Receding Hairline

And i don’t see why you are flustered Pedro, you ran a continuous campaign against Emery using PSG as a reference point. You pointed out how they have been liberated by a better manager only for them to crash out against a very average United side last night.

Expecting us all to pretend that did not happen and instead discuss Guendouzi’s hair is funny.

  99. Leftsidesanch

And the dishonesty from the usual suspects is hilarious. If Emery doesn’t perform for us, show him the door but all posters have been asking for is to be realistic, objective and to give him time.

There’s no Emery ultra, there’s just a group of people who want to see Arsenal do well and understand that the manager inherited a team/club that needed a lot of work.

    Pierre
Do you think Wenger should have told the world that Fabregas wasted a good pizza on SAF’s face
The same time when 5 kids from God knows where are going to bed without their dinners?

Do you even reflect on all these silly Emery attacks you start?
    Tell the truth?
You realize that Ben Arfa actually has civil litigation against PSG?
That’s the level of cuntiness that this player is resorting to.

  101. Dissenter

The French press considers the PSG exit ‘unforgiveable’’
Pedro has already chucked it off but the Emery one is forever etched in memory.

  102. Chitom

“Emery has now realised losing to shit teams causes outrage?“

Only in the land of “holly sh.it , set yout hair on fire we just lost the away leg of a two legged tie on a potato field of a pitch” , it does.

Normal fan base ( Bayern 1:3 in 2013 ) take these in stride if it meant little in the overall picture.

  103. Chitom

“Yep. As I mentioned previously, can we not just get a manager that doesn’t have a fucking cult?”

    Arteta is out then.

  104. Dissenter

I’ve never seen a civil litigation started because a manager froze a player out…all, the while that player was still being played his exorbitant salary.
Never seen it, never heard it …. until Ben Arfa used PSG.

That just shows that the manager was right about him.
Managers don’t like peripheral players that stir up the dressing room witj salacious talk. That’s why Klopp got rid off Mamadou Sakho because he was it’s like guns of Hackney in the dressing room.

Wenger too froze out players he didn’t like. Who can forget Park Chu-young?
We stole him from a medical at Lille which probably made it harder to sign Eden Hazard.
Pierre wasn’t complaining when Wenger only played the Korean for SEVEN league minutes. Work out the wage-per minute of league games played.

  105. Words on a Blog

Tuchel is a good manager – not (yet) elite given his record.

He was undone by the smug sense of self-entitlement of the “elite” PSG players.

The same arrogant sense of self-entitlement that undid Emery.

No doubt we’ll soon be hearing anonymous stories about what a poor man-manager he is.

And when he goes the PSG players will go public.

    Way of the world.
