Everyone is talking about it…

Spurs fans…

Arsenal fans…

Kim Jong Un on his sweet train…

Yep, if Arsenal beat Bournemouth and Spurs… and Spurs lose to Chelsea tomorrow… the gap between Arsenal and Spurs will close to 1 point.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I know it hasn’t happened, but the madness that only a few weeks ago we were all looking at Spurs as some sort of rampant elite entity, now we’re wondering if Emery’s team of plodders might actually steal 3rd place from them.

It probably won’t happen, but right now, just knowing Spurs fans aren’t sleeping easy is enough for me.

‘Mate, you cannot laugh at Spurs when they are above us’

The above comment is exactly what is wrong with some elements of the global fanbase.

You can ALWAYS laugh at Spurs. Don’t ever forget that.

I simply adore the press and their childish freak outs every time Poch messes with the ‘RAMPANT SPURS’ narrative.

The shrieks of disdain when the wheels come of his season are so predictable. He’s been there since 2014, presided over some incredible players, and he’s still not won a trophy or sustained a title challenge.

‘HE DOESN’T EVEN NEED A TROPHY YOU FU*KING TWITTER PEASANTS’ saved, to every elite journo’s drafts.

I empathise with the unhealthy obsession, he’s a great coach, but there does come a point, when a man who is 47 in week ‘perhaps’ has to go out there and prove his mettle with a trophy. Even a little shit one.

As Monchi said, you can’t rock a ‘I HAVE BEEN FISCALLY PRUDENT AND THE YOUNG LADS WERE LOVEABLE’ as your career byline.

Or maybe you can?

Firstly we need to beat Bournemouth at home. They’ve lost 3 of their last 6, taking a 3-0 spanking from Liverpool the other week. They don’t travel well. They’re Wayne Rooney mooching around the Basilica because the wife wants a bit of culture. All he wants is a deck chair, a box of 20 Marlboro Reds, and a can of warm Carling. Yep, they’ve lost 6 in 6 on their away travels, conceding 18 in the process, chalking up just one goal. This ‘should’ be a walk in the park.

I ‘like’ using this style to denote tip-toe caution with my words.

Again, this match is going to be a lesson in rotation. I’d imagine Emery will rest Sokratis as he’s fresh off an injury, I’m not sure what he’ll do with Rambo and Ozil, but Ramsey is always a sure bet for Spurs, so maybe Ozil will start. Rave-wobi is nursing a bit of an injury, and I suspect he’ll feature at the weekend as well.

The most important thing is fresh legs for Spurs. They are either going to have a walk in the park against Kepa’s Chelsea, or they’re going butt up against a team determined not to let the season go to shit. Worth remembering, the tactics for City were spot on, if they had a striker for the Carling Cup, they’d have taken down City. A little more pragmatism against Spurs could go a very long way, especially after they shit the bed against BURNLEY LOL BOTTLE JOBS PAMPERED BRATS HATE THE NORTH WEAK MINDS.

Abou Diaby officially retired from football at the age of 32 years old. What a name. What an enigma. He put his ankle on the line for the cause and destroyed his career in the process. Still, he made a fucking fortune, set up a foundation, and led a good life. He’s also not dying. Retiring from football healthy, with the rest of your life in front of you is not a cause for sadness.

I remember sitting next to him back in the day. Such pleasant chap. Told me his favoured position was as a #10. He really was a silky player on his day. What could have been…

Right, that’s me done, see you in the comments! x

People are rewriting history on Diaby as they tend to do with our perma-crocks.

Very good player on his day but nowhere near elite level and a bit of an insult to say that he would have went on to have become a club legend injuries-aside imo too those that are legit club legends.

Wish him well nonetheless on his cushy retirement considering we funded it.

Guns of sf

Diaby could have been something
Had all the qualities
Our new paddy never worked out

Credit to him for trying

Danny

Imagine if Diaby and Eduardo didn’t get injured, wow what a difference that would’ve made.
Oh well fuck it.

qna

Wonder what the most consecutive games in a row that Diaby managed over his career?

The guy had all the tools.

WengerEagle

Marko if you’re out there, meant to ask you do you like Joelinton the Hoffenheim CF? Only 22 but to me he looks the full package, perfect height and frame for a striker at a sturdy 6 foot 1 with pace , plays well with his back to goal, good dribbler and can create chances for himself, decent aerially, good passer and creator for others. 6 goals and 5 assists aren’t earth shattering numbers but his all-round game is really impressive and given his age, he’ll likely rack those numbers up. Could be a good long-term CF solution as Auba… Read more »

Wenger did have his fair share of ‘bad luck injuries’.

And Diaby was potentially world class. One of the most talented players to never reach his full potential. Imo…

Freddie Ljungberg

WE

Just read that he has agreed to join Newcastle for 51m. Fuck knows where they got that kind of money from but that’s what the article said.

We continue to be linked with Marcus Thuram though who could be a good shout for wide forward/CF. Good height, dribbling, 1 year left of his contract in the summer.

‘I sometimes wonder with that sort of thinking why a person would continue to support Arsenal. You don’t think much of the club’

I don’t think much of the way the club is being run.
That would probably apply to many fans of many different clubs.

WengerEagle

I’m going to be fair to Diaby actually, he had a few stand-out moments in an Arsenal shirt where he displayed real top drawer potential, was far too fleeting to sniff at world class but here they are from memory: – Goal vs Aston Villa, ran half the pitch before exchanging a great 1-2 with Eboue IIRC. – 5-2 away win back when Fenerbahce were still half decent where he was the star man and looked imperious. – Performance[s] at Anfield vs Liverpool at the start of the season, could be wrong but think that he gave two MOTM performances… Read more »

FL Everything about that story reeks of bollocks, it says that they’ll pay 50 plus million for him even if they are relegated. This is Mike Ashley that we’re talking about, he only just forked out their club record 20 million fee for Almiron in January, no chance that they go and treble that in the summer for while an excellent prospect, a guy that will hardly guarantee you goals next season as he’ll still not close to the finished product in front of goal. Calling BS on the price as well. Firmino was far more established than Joelinton and… Read more »

Don’t think we can afford to sell Auba this summer. We already need one more double digit goal scorer. Selling him would mean we need to sign two players who score 30 PL goals. Difficult.

Saw you mention Joelinton above What do you think of Nicolas Pépé’s teammate, Rafael Leão? He’s only 19. But, he’s suppose to be a big talent. He’s tall and has pace. He can out get games out wide for a couple of years while Auba and Laca play thru the middle.

Freddie Ljungberg

WE

Yeah, didn’t exactly sound like something Ashley would do. They’re not spending that kind of money in a window, even less on 1 relatively unknown player.

Dream10

Reports that Monchi has accepted the job and his first targets are Pepe and Thuram. That’s probably bullshit but that’s a scenario where I could see us selling Auba.

Both are young, fast, good dribblers that can play out wide or central, and they both have a physical presence, hell Thuram is 1.92m.

WengerEagle

Dream It’s weird, Auba’s a world class goalscorer. That is a fact that nobody would deny. Can’t help but feel that he hurts the collective though with his limitations, similar to Sanchez beforehand. Dortmund have thrived in attack since he’s left whereas beforehand they were very much Aubameyang-centric in their attacking game. Reus is putting up his best season in a long time and Sancho has exploded with the fluidity of their offensive options and they are scoring more goals and winning more games as a result. I’m not Laca’s biggest fan either but it’s pretty obvious to me that… Read more »

Thomas

@WengerEagle

Same phenomenon with Rosicky, Ramsey, Eduardo and Wilshere. Long term injured players are hyped up to world class status all the sudden.

Marko

Ideally a draw would be the result. We can’t hope for a Chelsea result considering they’re right behind us in the race for 4th and considering we’re away to Spurs on Saturday. Chelsea and United dropping points tomorrow night coupled with an Arsenal win would make a potential defeat to Spurs on Saturday not that bad in the fight for 4th

WengerEagle

Goalscorers are a must though, absolutely with you on that.

The reality is that we currently only have two players even capable of putting up double figures in the PL a season, and they both play in the same position. You need a minimum of three players to crack ten and one to crack 20 to even have a leg to stand on when competing.

Pepe could be an inspired choice if he can replicate even close to the numbers he is putting up over in France in the PL.

Versus

I remember sitting next to him back in the day. Such pleasant chap. Told me his favoured position was as a #10

Just like every wenger player. They were all bloody NO.10s. Funny how these modern day players who claim to be NO.10s don’t score often, don’t assist often, don’t carry the ball, dribble or beat a man 1 on 1.. but hey, they were all number 10s

Dream10

Rosicky is the only one that I felt had merit to it as he was a Bundesliga winner and was a top player for Dortmund and at NT level. He looked great for us too and was playing his best stuff at the start of 2008 just before he suffered that tendon injury that basically KO’d his career at that level.

Mumbere Osbert

I think beating Bournemouth and Tottenham Hotspur would turn the top four race in our favour ahead of the home game vs Manchester United.

Marko

Looks decent WE but like you said he just getting started really. I certainly wouldn’t think of replacing Aubameyang with him in the summer if I’m being honest. I think Lacazette is the one most likely to go though. As for potential replacements ideally someone like Jovic would be perfect but he’s likely to cost a pretty penny and already has big suitors. Dream Do you agree with the consensus that the defence must be an absolute priority this summer? I think I’m in the minority in that I still see CM as our biggest soft spot, we’re still crying out for a proper quality prowler in front of the back 4 that is good on both sides of the ball and fairly athletic as well as somebody that can break from the middle into the box and makes those late runs to take advantage of dropping second balls/link with the strikers. Dream10 You have to consider the budget and circumstances they worked with, no one is claiming Monchi is a magician, but if he can organize the club and get talent in we just have to hope he can adapt that to a bigger club. I’m not Laca’s biggest fan either but it’s pretty obvious to me that we seem to play better with him up front than we do with Auba

I mean you can make that argument now but imagine Auba with natural wingers either side of him. That already great goalscoring record would be better.

As for Diaby come on one of the obvious highlights has to be that time he nearly kicked Terry’s head clean off his shoulders

Micheal

There is no doubt that Diaby was very unlucky with injures. But I was never sold on him too much as a player. I mean him noi disrepsect, but I think he was over-rated.

He certainly had all the power and technical skills. But sent too much time running into cul-de-sacs, losing the ball and wasting the final ball. And, how many goals did he score ?

I wish him well in his retirement. But he was not a top class player in my opinion.

Micheal

*spent

Freddie Ljungberg

Let’s not rewrite history just because Diaby has retired. He had maybe 1 great game in 10 that he managed to play for us. The rest of the time he was just a taller Wilshere, getting caught lingering on the ball, running into trouble losing the ball, etc. He was also injured all the time even before he came to Arsenal so it wasn’t just the leg break that ruined his career although it sure as hell didn’t help, but he was just made of glass. It happens, I’m sure he’s crying himself to sleep on his big pile of… Read more »

Marko Jovic is big time already, he’s the one who won’t move for less than 60 odd million because they won’t be short of suitors. Top scorer in the Bundesliga [15] and 2nd in the Europa League [6] at age 21. Owned by Benfica remarkably although Eintract were savvy enough to ensure a permanent option in the loan deal so they’ll likely pull a Real Madrid/Morata move and sell him for a much higher fee. Wenger Eagle We definitely need at least one CB that has stature, pace and defend on an island. Koscielny used to be able to defend in acres of space, but he’s finished. Worrying that we still rely on him. Same with Monreal. In fact, if Emery continues, it’s important our back four be able cope with 1v1s, 2v2 situations because he has a high risk style. Marko Dortmund’s wide players have looked much better without Auba. Tbf he didn’t get to play with Sancho but I find it hard to believe that Jadon would have thrived as much as he had with Auba clogging the centre of the penalty area up and the space to run at defenders in the middle. He’s not fluid enough nor has the skillset to interchange with the wide men to disorientate defenders and makes it pretty easy to mark him out of the game hence he generally is anonymous unless he scores. Totally disagree about Dolberg. Lad looked an outstanding prospect at 18 scored 23 in 47 prior to the problems last season and he’s got 10 in 17 league games this. And he only turned 21 in October. Still a good prospect. Besides we’re talking about a back up here you know

Marko

Lacazette may not be as deadly in front of goal but he gets us playing better.

And I’m saying that us having two proper widemen would have us playing better… and have Auba scoring more.

WengerEagle

He’s limited Marko and he’s no longer a prolific goalscorer, players rarely get better after a bad injury.

Eredivisie is absolutely shocking as well, when was the last time any player of note was exported from that league?

WengerEagle

Lacazette is more unselfish than Aubameyang and links better with his team-mates, I’d rather Pepe and co playing with Lacazette.

WengerEagle

Luuk De Jong who was hopeless at Newcastle is the Eredivisie top scorer and PSV’s go to man up front. Tadic no disrespect while a very decent player is now daddy-dicking that league and he was just average in the PL. Also over 30. Interesting as well that after their most positive transfer window since 2014, Barcelona are still surviving at the top via the Messi show on a weekly basis. Single-handedly won them that match at Sevilla at the weekend. Vidal has been shite and looks finished as a top midfielder, Lenglet has looked just ok, Arthur has been decent without being spectacular and poor old Malcom has barely been given a sniff by Valverde who seems to resent him mere presence at the club, more than gives off the impression that it wasn’t his signing. WE Kasper Dolberg is 21 and you’re making it sound like he’s finished. Come on man that’s ridiculous. Jovic is fairly comparable to Dolberg. He’s 21 too he done basically nothing of note at Benfica and only scored 8 goals last season and he’s only really taken off this season. I like his two teammates, Upamecano and Mukiele. Both are tall, fast and look like they can read the game. Diallo of Dortmund having a good season. Mukiele can play RCB/RB and Diallo can play LCB/LB. De Vrij a good reader of the game. A better version of Mertesacker.

Who are your favourites??

Marko

WE we’re talking about a backup too by the way. As in decent enough worth around 20 million with enough potential to push for a starting spot over the next couple seasons. Kind of limited in what you can get there

You’re combining two seasons of Dohlberg when Jovic has only one season to use before this one as he was in Benfica B’s as a teen. The Bundesliga while weaker than before is not even remotely comparable in quality to Eredivisie. At Dortmund Auba was taking 3.6 shots per game, since he joined Arsenal it’s about 2.2 per game. I could definitely see us selling one in the summer if we can find the right way of replacing them. I’d take him in a heartbeat but it’s worth noting that what it’d likely cost to get him would probably get us a couple of other players really.
